2023.06.06 04:25 Well_jenellee Gparents don’t want to do anything when we they come to town
I love my parents but my husband & I never know what to do with them when they come to town to visit. They’re older with some mobility and health issues. I try to not Jam Pack the day and plan easy activities for them that are still fun and engaging for my energetic 20 month old. Apparently I always plan wrong though and they’re often passive aggressive about it. I’ll ask, what do you want to do? “We’re down with anything.” I plan something. “Yeah that sounds good.” We get closer to doing the thing. “I’m sure we’ll think of something to do tomorrow.” Time for activity comes. “It’s too hot, too much walking, too far, sounds boring…”
Then I’m here trying to scramble to find something else to do last minute. We’re in Chicagoland so it’s not easy to zip around to locations. You HAVE TO plan ahead. Then there is tension between my husband & I and then parents want to leave because “we just wanted to spend time with toddler but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen” and then I’m here doing damage control being told essentially this is all my fault for not mind reading when all they had to do is TELL ME WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE.
So then we just end up spending way too much time in the car or on the couch with a half hour in the park (which we do daily anyway) while they barely interact with our daughter because they’re not fit enough to play in the park with her.
I’m so tired of the passive aggression and me getting the blame and planning out stuff for us to enjoy just so it gets poopooed on. And then my kid struggles to sleep because she’s under stimulated.
Like, if you would have just told me from the get go you just want to sit in the shade and not do anything, I’d have taken you to a gorgeous park with baby swans by the restaurant I know you like or set up a tent with popsicles and cornhole in the backyard. But instead we got chaos.
My original plan was to stop at a small nature center (mostly indoors) with ample seating. They have live and taxidermied animals plus a play area for toddlers where they could sit with her to read books, do a puzzle, and play with some toys. I thought that was a good grandparent pick? I’ve been before and I always see grandparents with littles there.
They were pretty annoyed this time. I kind of fear they won’t bother coming down again :/

2023.06.06 04:24 manfredsleftnut My first day visiting Bend
First time in Oregon on a road trip and driving in from Portland, Bend has been wild 🤣.
Seeing Drake park and the rivers/bodies of water for the first time was surreal, never would’ve imagined a place where I’d be drawn to sitting in a boat out on a body of water so quickly!
For lunch I stopped at Cheba Hut, got the Kali Mist & damn!! It’s gonna be hard to not have Cheba Hut back at home :(
To top it off, I was overhearing what sounded like a pretty off the rails breakup at a bridge today :’(( dunno if anyone else here knows what I’m talking about but it was a bit hysterical..
All in all what a town!! Also I like the roundabouts

2023.06.06 04:24 Hydrahelix New quirk after getting hybrid battery replaced.
So, after getting the hybrid battery replaced my 08 Prius has learned a new trick. Now when I park and go to turn off the car with the power button the power cuts completely for a moment then it turns back on in the mode it usually goes into when you push the power button without holding the break. I'm order to get it to turn off I have to push the button a second time.
Is this just my life now? Did they mess up something with the wiring when replacing the hybrid battery? Or is this just something new and unrelated that I get to spend more money on? Anyone else have their Prius learn this new trick?

2023.06.06 04:23 bwc101 Navigating air travel
New to the area, and it seems like one of the perks of the LV area is the multiple options for air travel. With close proximity to two major international airports (maybe three depending if one wants to count JFK), it's nice to have options when I need to fly.
ABE is limited in flight destinations, but I'm aware booking from ABE on United or American could give you an itinerary where you take a bus to connect in EWR or PHL, respectively. Advantage of that is if you misconnect, United or American is responsible for reaccommodating you. Not sure if it's just my sample size, but are itineraries out of ABE usually significantly more expensive than those out of EWR or PHL? I also prefer not to fly Allegiant (or other no frills airlines), I much prefer the legacy carriers when possible.
Curious what you prefer when you need to fly? If you prefer to book from EWR or PHL and get to these airports on your own, how do you get there (e.g. drive, UbeLyft, some sort of public transport)? If you drive to these airports, any hacks for parking without breaking the bank?

2023.06.06 04:23 Remcee0403 [Crowdsourcing] Looking for cheap parking spaces in BGC for motorcycle
Hi good day fellow redditors!
I'm about to become a corporate slave of a company located in BGC, Grand Hyatt.
To lessen the burden and stress of the daily commute, I'm considering to use my motorcycle as the means of my transpo.
It would mean a lot to me if there are people here who are familiar with the area and could recommend cheap(?) parking spaces around the area.
Dayshift naman so no issues when it comes to overnight parking fees and I don't mind a little walking routine to the office. All I'm seeing online are hourly rates and medyo hindi practical kung parking+gas+maintenance fees would tower over the daily commute costs kaya nagbabakasakali ako na baka may makakapag bulong ng magandang parking option.
Thanks!

2023.06.06 04:20 Outside_Award_6402 Itinerary opinions
I would love your help with figuring out my itinerary! It is me (46), my husband (46), son (18), and daughter (15), all in decent shape although my daughter is not very active but she loves nature and animals. We’re going July 8-15. Right now the tentative plan is this:
July 8 - land in Kalispell at 1pm, get rental, stock up at grocery store in Columbia Falls, explore Apgar Village and visitors center, stay at Lake McDonald Lodge.
July 9 - out the door by 6am, drive to Logan Pass, hike the Highline (haven’t decided if we’ll do it all the way to the loop or not), GTTSR stops & Lake McDonald later in the day. Stay at Lake McDonald Lodge.
July 10 - Trail of the Cedars/Avalanche Lake Trail, GTTSR. Stay at Rising Sun.
July 11 - Out by 6am to Logan Pass, Hidden Lake trail. Any GTTSR stops we missed. St Mary Visitors Center. Many Glacier boat tour at 3pm. Stay at Many Glacier.
July 12 - Out by 5:30am, walk to Grinnell Glacier trail (we couldn’t get boat reservation). Fishercap Lake that evening. Stay at Many Glacier.
July 13 - another hike near Many Glacier - possibly Iceberg Lake or Cracker Lake? Or we might just sleep in and drive to Waterton when we wake up, drive Red Rock Canyon, stay at Prince of Wales hotel. Might try staying up late to see Milky Way somewhere.
July 14 - Bears Hump trail or boat tour. Drive to Two Medicine. Boat tour and Twin Falls Hike at 3pm. Stay at Mountain Pine Motel.
July 15 - Try to see sunrise at Two Medicine Lake. Drive to airport.
Questions:
-Is Waterton worth it or should we try to stay at Many Glacier one more night?
-Does this seem doable for healthy but slightly lazy teenage girl? The waking up wouldn’t be a problem, but the hiking concerns me a little. She’s done lots of hikes in the past but no 10 milers.
-I would like to see the Milky Way one night and get sunrise and sunset pictures - not sure where to fit those in.
Any changes/suggestions would be very much appreciated! We’ve been to many national parks but I’m finding Glacier to be a challenging one to plan. Thank you!!

2023.06.06 04:20 LiquidBodyWaste I witnessed a squirrel go full retard in the Giant parking lot
I was hanging in the designated parking spot waiting for the delivery of a curbside pickup to my car’s trunk. While scrolling Twitter #askkennedy, I heard an unsettling thud and looked out my window.
It took a few seconds to register what my eyes were seeing, but once I realized what was happening I am beyond horrified.
This fucking squirrel fell out of a tree and smacked his head so hard on the asphalt that he was convulsing. He eventually got on all four legs and ran around in circles while tripping and falling down. He did make his way to some bushes and won’t be run over, but he and I will never be the same again.

2023.06.06 04:19 yumengzh Dog without owner roaming around Grimston park
| Earlier at 6:40PM, saw a big white dog roaming around Grimston park, at the intersection of 7th & 19th. I could not get too close, because I was walking my own dog. I waited a while and no owners showed up. The dog wandered into the neighborhood area. This reminded that a few days ago, also at Grimston park, a woman was urgently looking for her lost pet, she said it’s a big white dog, and could potentially be aggressive towards other dogs. I tried calling spca new west, but they are closed due to business hour. I’m not rlly sure where to report the dog to. So putting the message out on here, in hope that the owner finds her dog. Please also be careful walking around that area. submitted by yumengzh to NewWest [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 04:18 PresentationNo3069 How soon is too soon to go solo?
I worked my way up in family law from file clerk to paralegal and did that for several years before deciding to go back for undergrad + law school. While finishing my undergrad, I volunteered with a local family law association and had a great network already established when I started law school. My first summer I had lots of options, and went with the best mentor with the best reputation, who was a solo looking to expand, and I have been with them three years now (carrying cases and billables through school). Because of my prior paralegal experience, I was an immediately useful as a law clerk, able to provide substantial trial support and run some of my own cases as a certified law student before graduation. I was handling trials solo as soon as I was sworn in (last October). Both the firm I worked at as a paralegal and my current firm handle high-asset and complex cases, so I’ve had a ton of experience and exposure to build my foundation.
My initial plan was to stay at this firm forever and take over when the principal retires. If I can help them expand between now and then, even better; my end-game is to be top level of a few partners at a 5-8 atty firm (something like 2-3 partners with 3-5 associates, and maybe growing from there). But, the principals’s retirement is an incredibly moving target (sometimes 2 years, sometimes 10) and we occasionally have differences of opinion that make me want to just run my own thing (for example, I’d like us to offer mediation services, but this is a big shift that I don’t see anytime soon). I’m growing impatient, and 2-4 years to partnership is feeling incredibly long.
I’ve helped grow the firm I’m at, bringing other associates, law clerks, and the phone rings for me personally more than none. I track my billables, am very cognizant of collections and maintaining positive trust balances. My clients love me and I’m racking up good wins. I also network my little booty off and spend a lot of time promoting this firm and asking for referrals.
From a math perspective, I can earn more than I’m making right now on my own, and all of this work and energy can promote myself, instead of this principal. But they’ve overall been a good mentor and my number of complaints about my current environment is fairly low (I sometimes beef with our office manager, but that is going well enough right now; I need a raise, but I’m waiting until October to push).
I also owned and ran a construction company before law school as well (during my undergrad years). This would not be my first business.
So, even though I am non traditional, and I have all of this other experience going for me, I am trying to tell myself it’s stupid to even consider going solo (or starting with another equal partner) until I’ve been out of law school for at least a few years. People will see my 2022 bar number and snicker? But I keep finding my eyes sliding to the classifieds for empty office spaces… I’ve had a spreadsheet for startup costs parked for several months.
Talk me out of it.

2023.06.06 04:16 MaesterInTraining 40/F/USA, Disney adult, hoarder of inks and fountain pens. Loves LOTR/SW/GOT. Wants to love hiking
Your gender? Don’t care! Age? Roughly same as mine (I’m 40) Location? Anywhere!
About me: I’m a cat mom. Lover of all things Disney, especially the parks. Finding a pen pal that also loves Disney would be fantastic.
I love inks and fountain pens. Books. Taylor Swift. Live music. Cruises.
I have lots of fun inks and I’d love to have someone to write letters with and use the inks. Bills are boring. Real mail is so much fun.
Also love movies (studied film for awhile). Fave is Everything Everywhere All At Once and 2005’s Pride and Prejudice.
I lived in England for awhile so it would be fun to have a pal there, or at least in that area. I speak very little French and Spanish (read even less) but would love to change that!

2023.06.06 04:16 throwawaytest2000 Apartment Recommendations around the North Loop area - looking for advice from residents!
Hi - I’m looking to move into a place in November in a 1 bedroom apartment around the North Loop area. I’ve looked through some of the previous posts here on apartment recommendations, and I’m hoping to get another opinion on the specific places I’m researching now!
My budget is $1600, but I’d prefer to stay lower if possible!
Right now, I’m monitoring The Copham, Dock Street Flats, 240 Park Avenue, The Palmer, The Archive, and The Nic on Fifth. It seems like the pricing on 1beds fluctuates like crazy, so sometimes I find units on their website within my budget, and sometimes not.
For some of my main priorities:
- Important for me to be close to central Minneapolis. Skyway access is a huge plus but not completely necessary, as I will be walking quite a bit throughout the year (including winter).
- I enjoy trying many different cool/nice restaurants rather than bars/clubs.
- Highly value safety. I’m hoping for an area with low crime and a safe feeling.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated - thank you to anyone who helps out!!
