Welcome to the subreddit dedicated to the artist Burial. Releasing records under the pseudonym "Burial," William Bevan comes from South London in England, and is one of dubstep's most enigmatic artists. With home made chopped up beats, swooshing synths, and haunting modified vocals lifted from an eclectic range of pop songs, he brings his listeners back to a time when hardcore, d'n'b, 2step, and house music dominated the London underground club/rave scene.

2023.03.29 18:04 NecessaryNo6845 online shopping mall services

Online shopping malls have become increasingly popular in recent years as consumers have embraced the convenience of shopping from the comfort of their own homes. These shopping malls are essentially virtual marketplaces where multiple retailers can sell their products to consumers through a single platform. This model offers several advantages for both retailers and consumers.
One of the primary advantages of online shopping malls is the convenience they offer. Consumers no longer have to physically travel to multiple stores to find the products they want. They can simply log onto the online shopping mall's website and browse through a wide variety of products from different retailers. This saves consumers time and money, as they don't have to spend money on gas, parking, or other expenses associated with traveling to physical stores.
https://www.market2home.online/blog/your-one-stop-solution-for-all-your-delivery-needs-in-the-uae
Online shopping malls also offer consumers a greater selection of products. Since multiple retailers can sell their products through the same platform, consumers have access to a wider variety of goods than they would in a physical store. This is especially true for consumers who live in rural areas or small towns, where the selection of products may be limited.
For retailers, online shopping malls offer several advantages as well. First and foremost, they provide retailers with access to a larger customer base. By selling their products through an online shopping mall, retailers can reach customers from all over the world, rather than just those who live in their local area. This can help retailers increase sales and grow their business.
Online shopping malls also offer retailers a cost-effective way to sell their products. Setting up and maintaining a physical store can be expensive, with costs like rent, utilities, and staffing. By selling their products through an online shopping mall, retailers can avoid many of these costs and pass the savings on to customers in the form of lower prices.
However, there are also some potential drawbacks to online shopping malls. One of the biggest concerns for consumers is the security of their personal and financial information. Online shopping malls must take steps to protect their customers' data from hackers and other cyber threats. This includes using secure payment processing systems and encryption technologies to protect sensitive information like credit card numbers.
Another potential issue with online shopping malls is the risk of counterfeit or fake products. Since multiple retailers can sell their products through the same platform, it can be difficult for consumers to determine the authenticity of the products they are purchasing. To address this issue, online shopping malls must have policies in place to ensure that the products being sold are genuine and of high quality.
https://www.market2home.online/
Overall, online shopping malls offer many advantages for both consumers and retailers. They provide consumers with a convenient way to shop for a wide variety of products, while also giving retailers access to a larger customer base and a cost-effective way to sell their products. However, it is important for online shopping malls to address concerns around security and product authenticity in order to maintain consumer trust and confidence.

2023.03.29 18:00 Mefx97 How do I transition from Auto finance/sales into a Saas Career?

My background was a typical salesperson for 4 years at a car dealership. After some experience I finally broke into a hybrid role in which everything is over the phone and I close deals for vehicles.
This current role I do is sourcing, doing objection calls and logic closing for clients which I do good. Very difference since I do the finance and lease contracts over the phone/email. Compared to in-person like a dealership.
At the end of the day I’m just tired of doing vehicles and want a career that allows me to work from home eventually. My sales experience is pretty good considering I’m 25 and have cleared over 100k each year. I just know for a fact I can have better potential branching out.

You’ve stumbled across this page for a reason.
It’s not because you’ve heard of this crazy new business model called ‘SMMA’ and it’s not because you’re struggling to sign your first client.
It’s because you’re exasperated. You’re frustrated. And you know you can do better. You’re stuck in a pair of “golden handcuffs”: running a mildly-successful agency but beholden to your clients, your staff, and your phone.
You’ve broken the one inviolable rule of running an agency and not kept a full pipeline.
You know that you can reach the upper echelon of agency owners making six-and-seven figures, whilst working less than six-and-seven hours a week. You just don’t know how… My name’s Iman Gadzhi and since 2017, I’ve run IAG Media. In this time, I’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, enjoyed six-figure months and made my clients millions.
I’ve also lost multiple clients in a row, been over-worked and chained to the agency that I started to give me freedom.
All the while, I’ve refined, tweaked and optimized my agency whilst also creating GrowYourAgency.com – the world’s largest education company for agency owners.
But in early 2020, I realised there was a problem. For every beginner agency owner desperate to sign their first client, there were three experienced agency owners desperate for guidance, systems and processes, and a solution to their broken agency model.
It’s why I created Copy Paste Agency…
…not so I can show you how to sign a client or perform basic outreach.
So you could take, copy and paste the exact methods I use in my own agency into your agency. Copy Paste Agency students learn:
How I continue to run a multiple-six-figure agency from home with a skeleton staff and minimal expenses.
How to command higher retainers… and retain those clients for longer.
How to automate, delegate, and optimize every area of your agency from lead generation and sales to service delivery and client communication.
Plus get access to the latest tools and software used by my own agency, IAG Media such as reporting templates.

2023.03.29 17:57 NeedAnewPHOTOpc Where are the consumer HDDS?

I am building a new photo editing rig. NO gaming or video processing. As a recent retiree and photo enthusiast (early adopter of digital imaging) I have terabytes of old digital files I want to store on my new rig. Here is my new set up:
Drive A) 1 TB Kingston KC3000 for OS and programs Drive B) 2TB N850X 2 TB for current projects I am working on Drive C) 250GB Samsung 2.5" SATA for Lightroom catalogue and Windows scratch file Drive D: An as yet unpurchased HDD
After about 2-3 months I will transfer photo files off of Drive B for long term storage on to Drive D, a large terabyte HHD that I plan to purchase. (I will also have external backup). It's been 11 years since I've purchased a HDD and the landscape seems to have changed. I'd like something between 16-20 TBs. There seem to be a dearth of consumer HDDs nowadays. I see sales on NAS drives and Enterprise drives. It seems like they can be used on a home PC. Some people discourage them because they seem to be always on, are noisier and consume more power. Others suggest they are better quality than the consumer HDDs. I will be only writing to them maybe once a month...though I may access them to work on a photo I'd taken previously. This probably might happen ten times a month when people purchase prints from me. I'm wondering if the slower 5400 rpm drives are better for my usage - they are quieter I assume and hopefully cheaper. And if I rarely access the info on them I doubt if I care if the disks take a few seconds longer the 20 times a month I'll access them. Conversely I wonder if the NAS/Enterprise drives will be a waste of energy consumption if they never idle down - do they never idle down? What are your thoughts?

2023.03.29 17:51 stickonorionid JNMom and Sister Won’t Be Supportive since WE are too poor

Quick context: I (25F) moved away from my family home in TX several years ago. My mother (54) and sister (14) still live in TX. I now live near my father (54) and stepmother (65) who are great, but my mother is pretty venomous towards them.
My fiancé and I got engaged last December right before Christmas and knew we wanted to jump immediately into planning—we’ve been together for three years, so we’re ready to go for it. Our wedding is mid-August this year, so coming up pretty fast. I reached out to my mom to ask her what she would want to be a part of in the planning process. She nebulously replied “whatever you’ll help me to be a part of. I want to help with all of it.”
So I think really hard about what would matter the most to me to have her at, and I decided I would like to have her come to my wedding dress fitting. This is the ONLY THING outside the rehearsal/ceremony I asked her to be here for. And because I know money is tight for them, I literally offered to buy a plane ticket and get a hotel room for her so that she could come.
Now here’s where things start to go downhill. She says “well we would be driving.” Wait, WE? Yes, she decided that my sister just IS coming, despite the fact that I didn’t even want to invite my sister along and hadn’t planned for the cost. But if this would enable my mom to come, I would be willing to cover it this time. So I start to make plans for the two of them to come.
I schedule a dress fitting for the end of April so that we have time to make travel arrangements. If they’re driving then I can put some of what would cover flights into hotel rooms, so they’ll stay nicely accommodated. I’m getting excited, inviting my bridesmaids and future MIL to come, I’m planning what to do to make that weekend feel valuable and important to my mom.
Then, three days ago, the text I received VERBATIM from my little sister:
“hey [OP], I’m really sorry this is the first thing you’re seeing this morning. I really hope this doesn’t hurt your feelings or anything, I’m just being real and fully genuine right now. I don’t really feel like it makes much sense for me and mom to come up for the dress fitting. I know you’re offering to pay for so much of it, but still, it’s money, time, and we still do have obligations here down in Texas. It’s also spring time, and even if we leave the yard alone for a week it’ll go crazy. you will have so many other people to help you and support you, and I promise I’m not trying to hurt you or anything. I feel like it would just be too stressful for us to be there, for both you, and for us. We will be there for the wedding, though, no question about it. and I just genuinely feel like it would be better for us to only come for the wedding, less stressful. Mom didn’t tell me to say any of this, I just felt like it would be better said sooner than later. I love you so much [OP] and I hope you’re having a lovely morning. <3”
Immediately I am heartbroken. This is the first time my sister has ever hurt me, but it really feels like she tried to make it count. This ensues a long text argument where I recognize I said some extreme things, but I don’t regret showing her how badly she cut me. I thought she may have been talking for Mom, but she claims they really are her own thoughts and that “it’s not just Mom who would be coming.” I didn’t hesitate to tell her that it was MOM I invited and not her. She said “I’m fourteen I’m not going to stay alone in Texas,” and she said there was nobody she could stay with where she could “fulfill all her obligations.” Well tough sis, it will only feel bitter if you come—so I told her not to. She tells me that I’m TOO UPSET and “need to calm down fr” and “try to think rationally about it.”
At this point, I pull in Mom. I send her a screenshot of the initial text and tell her to call me. She’s got her calm “you’re the problem” kind of voice going on, telling me my sister is stressed about finding somewhere to stay, etc. I told her I don’t care. My mom says that “she’s just a kid,” sure she is but if she’s going to talk to me like an adult she better be ready to have me talk like an adult back. Mom told me to “tap into my empathetic background” to stop being so mad and I told her, no, I don’t need to do that because I always have to be the bigger person with them, the one who gets over things when they hurt me, and I think my sister should know she can’t say things like that.
“Well, I don’t want to censor anyone’s speech” was my mom’s immediate reply.
I eventually get to the meat of the matter and ask if she really agrees with what my sister said. Basically she said they had been talk about it and they both feel like it’s too expensive and that we should put the money towards our honeymoon because I “don’t work a lot” and “her man works at Walgreens.” Wow Mom, thanks so much for calling us poor! Especially when YOU ALWAYS COMPLAIN ABOUT MONEY. And when Mom was about to launch into why she agrees with what my sister said, I just noped tf out and handed the phone to my fiancé.
I just don’t know what to do at this point. I am DEFINITELY not helping them come to the dress fitting at this point, they burned that bridge. And they historically always burn bridges in situations where EVERYTHING IS OFFERED TO THEM. They literally would not have paid ANYTHING to come up here if they had agreed to fly (Mom declined because of her “tinnitus and hyperacusis”), they could have had a faster turnaround, I would have literally been their chauffer for however long they were here… but it’s “too much everything” to take a free vacation and be here for a once-in-a-lifetime event, you first child’s wedding dress try on’s.
I have ALWAYS felt my emotions very deeply, so I feel really stunned that my sister didn’t take five minute to either think about how I would feel or at least route it through Mom. I would have rather known her concerns through her PARENT instead of her talking to me like her own little adult then being shocked that I respond unfavorably.
TL;DR: my mom and sister turned down an expenses-paid vacation to help me with my wedding, my teenage sister was the one to let me know, and my mom defended her and my sister’s thought process rather than care about my feelings.

2023.03.29 17:42 just4747 [US-CT] [H] La Pavoni Europiccola Pre-Millennium (1996/97) Renewed, US Voltage/Plug Converted, Many Accessories [W] PayPal

Please read everything!!

PHOTOS: https://imgur.com/a/aJwgCsT

Regrettably, I am selling my beloved renewed and upgraded 1996/1997 Pre-Millennium La Pavoni Europiccola & all accessories. All refurbishing/renewing and upgrades done by @max.macchina.a.leva (on Instagram) from Munich, Germany - a well known and really great refurbishereseller of Italian lever machines. Machine was purchased by myself from him. The machine is an all original single-switch 1996 Europiccola (electronics/internals/boiler) but has a 1997 (original) black sparkly base due to the original being rusted I believe (it says "Genn. 1997" sticker inside the base in the photos, aka January of 1997.). Max stated that this 1996 machine is a better quality year for the Europiccola, with all brass parts, and it has the smaller 49mm grouphead.

The machine is fully working and working well. I haven't had any issues or problems in my time using it. Nothing is broken/worn or needing replacement as most parts have been renewed or replaced. No leaks and no sight glass cracks. I was able to make good espresso pretty easily after a small learning curve on it. It is renewed with new gaskets and new bolts/screws (including lever bolt kit). Heating element has been fully converted to a US-compatible 110/120 volt one and it has a grounded US plug wired in, so it will work immediately with any normal American home outlet. No modifications needed. I tried to get plenty of photos of it in different lighting to show the condition from all angles. Other than the chrome boiler not being completely polished up and scratch-free (which is doable, just not something I am capable of), the machine is in very good physical condition all around.

Everything you need to use the machine (and then some) included - more below. I purchased the machine from Max back in July of 2021 and I have literally only used it approximately 20-30 times total (unfortunately). I need to sell due to lack of time for using it and I could also use the funds.
I descaled the machine a little while after I first got it using the recommended Urnex Liquid Dezcal Descaler. It has barely been used since that time so I would still consider it descaled.

Everything included can be seen in the photos.
Sale includes ALL of the below:

Shipping: Machine is already packed up (extremely well) and ready to ship. Can provide potential buyers a UPS quote pretty much right away. Will check against FedEx as well but UPS Ground w/ insurance is likely the best price right now.
Machine ships from where I live in CT. I will ship everything, insurance & with tracking to any of the US-48 states.

Price: I am looking to get $850 $830 plus TBD shipping cost (will depend on buyer location once I know). U.S. buyers and PayPal only please. Goods & Services payment only (I would be willing to split the final PayPal G&S fee with the buyer).
Price is based on what I originally paid for the machine and its renewal/upgrades, accessories, etc (and reduced for the conversion rate changes and the overseas shipping/insurance/payment fees that I originally paid, etc...)

References/Feedback: For references/history, I have sold items in a few espresso/coffee Facebook groups (La Pavoni Lever Machine Owners, Home Espresso Aficionados, and Used Coffee Equipment USA), on reddit in the coffeeswap subreddit, on eBay under the ID guts311 (I have 495 all positive feedback reviews), and also on Etsy under the Store name JTSellsCrafts.

Please message me for any questions or if you are interested in purchasing. Thanks for looking!

2023.03.29 17:34 Johnny_Boy398 Lore speculation on why/how Germany took over the Portuguese colonies in Africa.

Lore speculation on why/how Germany took over the Portuguese colonies in Africa.
(This is part of my ongoing series where I flesh out/rework current Africa lore, though it mostly functions as a standalone. I will provide a link to the prior posts in the comment section if anyone is interested.)
Why did the Germans take over Portuguese Angola and Mozambique? They had no historical claims on the territory, no ideological imperative to include Africans and Portuguese in their empire, neither Hitler nor anyone else in nazi circles ever expressed interest in taking over these colonies. So why did they do it, other than to greatly simplify African borders and the gameplay of the south African war? My best attempt to force a reason comes down to a combination of ideological “moral outrage”, the discovery of oil in Angola, and German business interests being violated by Salazar after the 50’s crash. These combined with an increasingly irritable and erratic Hitler to create an armed expedition to “temporarily” occupy the Portuguese colonies, and their defacto annexation into the Reichskommissariats.
Lets go into a bit more detail, in order to justify these factors. During otl WW2 Salazar and Portugal remained officially neutral, never declaring war on anyone. However, they did ultimately bend the knee to allied pressure: leasing the Azores islands in 1943 and embargoing tungsten exports to Germany in 1944. In the aftermath of the war Salazar would play ball with the new American led order, being a founding member of NATO, cooperating with European economic integration and being included in the marshal plan. The strategy seems to have been to maintain Portugal's political sovereignty at all costs, including by giving economic/strategic concessions to the larger and victorious powers when needed. In TNO this strategy would have continued, but to the benefit of the victorious Germans. While Portugal would never have joined the war outright, I have no doubt that as the balance swung in Germany’s favor Portugal would have done their best to get in Hitler’s good graces without giving up anything Salazar considered vital. This is relevant to Africa when considering likely post-war economic projects taken on by the axis.
The Estado Novo regime considered the European colonies to be integral parts of “Europe” itself, and of course for its own colonies to be integral parts of Portugal. As such they spent a great deal of effort in modernizing, developing and integrating their African holdings. This was done through the cultural suppression of native groups, Portuguese immigration and police oppression, but also through the education of African natives, strongly investing in the African provinces and intermarriage between Whites and Blacks. This last bit would have been the first strike against Portugal in the eyes of Hitler: Salazar’s refusal to adopt a blood and soil mythology as a pillar of his regime. For all its racist paternalism and abuse the Portuguese concept of the European mission in Africa was that of the white man's burden: to elevate the natives into Portuguese civilization in order to form a greater Portugal. As such employing, educating and most importantly to the Nazi’s breeding with black Africans was (to an extent) accepted. For Hitler, who believed that racial purity and hierarchy was the key to… everything this open contradiction within his New Order would have been almost intolerable. No doubt revulsion at Portuguese liberality and “blood defilement” in Africa would have also been common in the Nazi administration in Africa. None of this is reason enough to invade Portuguese Africa on its own. Hitler and virtually every other important decision maker in the Nazi state was far more concerned with goings on in Europe or the other great powers: no one had time for tiny Portugal. But this does explain the mindset of those within Africa itself: the Portuguese were irresponsibly defying the New Order and undermining the European order in Africa by empowering the natives and diluting European blood, and ought to be stopped somehow.

Another aspect of Portuguese rule which would unsettle their Nazi neighbors is their willingness to arm and train black Africans as part of the Portuguese army. Though the policy was sometimes circumvented the Reich Colonial Office had a general ban on the use of native solders, relegating them to minor logistical work or police duty. Portugals comparative liberality seemed a threat to the all-white order Germany was attempting to build.
This same project of integration and development by Portugal is also an opportunity for Germany however, specifically in how Germany could come to economically profit from or even dominate the project. In the aftermath of victory Germany would be engorged on the spoils of war, and have effective control over most of Europe and Africa. In such a scenario Portugal could do little but cooperate with the new hegemon, and despite Salazar wishing to keep the project of national development strictly under his control I believe he would ultimately bow to pressure by Germany and Italy to permit their economic investment into Portugal and their rapidly growing colonies. Though Salazar would do what he could to mitigate the political or military pressure this put on Portugal, a slew of partially or fully German owned properties would have cropped up in Angola and Mozambique. Coffee and bean plantations, tungsten and iron mines, and even consumer industries in those cities with a large European population are entirely possible. Salazar was always willing to give economic concessions in order to avoid making political or social concessions, and the same applies here.
However the good times do not last: the German economy crashes, debts go unpaid, and suddenly German owned industry in Portuguese Africa became stagnant or even abandoned. The obvious thing to do is to buy the property off the Germans and distribute it to Portuguese hands, but Portugal itself would have been harmed by this economic downturn. As such Salazar chose to do what it had done to the British in the past: he nationalized foreign owned industry and brought it under state control. In truth Salazar would have been itching to do this for a while, wishing to ensure Portuguese sovereignty via economic self sufficiency and domestic ownership. The gamble is that Germany, like Britain before it, would seek to come to some kind of agreement with Portugal rather than risk being cut out of the Portuguese economy entirely. The standard denunciations of the “theft of German property” and “betrayal of treaty obligations” were issued, but Salazar stood firm, willing to take this gamble. All the more because the Italians, Spanish and Turks were all fleeing from Germany as well: surely the Reich had larger problems? When the West Russian War broke out it appears that the gamble had paid off, as a now weakened Germany was in no position to meaningfully oppose the seizure of property.
And perhaps that would have been true, had it not been for the third aspect: the discovery of oil. The German east was in flames, the Italian controlled middle eastern oil was being withheld, and the war machine suddenly needed fuel. Though it wasn’t strongly developed yet, the recently discovered oil fields in Portuguese Angola were ripe with potential, and if seized would not have the same security issues as the caucuses or Iran. In the heightened fear of the early WRW, the sting of the Portuguese “betrayal”, and Hitlers own advancing age and ill temper, plans were drawn up to seize the oil and the formerly owned property by force. The operation itself was expected to be militarily cheap: Angola and Mozambique were lightly garrisoned, while the German navy had full command over the shoreline. All that was needed was a spark, something to justify the land grab in the eyes of the public. The SS made rushed plans to stage a false flag attack of some kind, but in the end there was no need: the social tensions within Portuguese Africa would do the job for them.

First successful oil drill in Angola by a joint German-Portuguese venture. Though the oil fields were not yet fully mapped or exploited, Germany believed this was more due to Portuguese obstructionism than technical difficulties. Portugal for its part recognized the value that this new discovery could bring, and the risk of that value. They had no intention of letting it slip into German hands.
At this worst possible moment, a native strike flared up in Lourenço Marques, a city in Mozambique. Having been badly treated even during the economic growth, African laborers were then pressed by the economic downturn. Factory managers would fire workers or cut pay in order to make ends meet, and under the influence of a minor new socialist group the workers went on strike. However, when the management brought in strikebreakers the workers rioted and occupied their factory, including taking several Europeans hostage in order to ensure the police would not simply crush them. One of these hostages was a German tourist, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The crisis probably could have been dealt with peacefully, but Germany had larger designs. The German media jumped on the story, and the foreign office made unreasonable demands that the issue be solved immediately. Soon Germany, with the go ahead of Hitler, proclaimed that Portugal had lost control of its African colonies and that their irresponsible rule was a danger to Germans and all Europeans in Africa. Salazar was shocked: such grandiose statements were not uncommon from Germania, but had never been directed at Portugal. He quickly moved to make diplomatic contact, but it was too late: Hitler was determined to go ahead with the land grab, and ordered the operation to commence.
Hastily mobilized units from Sudwestafrika and Ostafrika cooperated with the remaining German garrisons to occupy Angola and Mozambique, initially running into minimal resistance. Most locals did not even realize that there was a crises as the incident had been heavily censored to avoid a potential spread of strikes. As such the roads and parts of the countryside were occupied by simply walking in and claiming it so. Salazar was now terrified that the Germans would expand their invasion to Portugal itself if given a reason, and ordered that regular troops not use lethal force to repel the invasion. This meant in practice that the regular Portuguese forces withdrew to ports, police stations or bases, where they holed up rather than face the invaders directly. Within a week a German troop presence was in place across all the major cities and oil fields, with the colonial office scrambling to organize a temporary martial law. The next few months were tense, with isolated Portuguese troops refusing to surrender but also being unable to take the offensive, and the German navy blockading the coast. The Portuguese mainland announced a partial mobilization and for once had no issue finding young recruits for the army. Eventually, through the efforts of diplomats and officers on the ground who had no wish to start a war, evacuations of Portuguese troops were negotiated as German military superiority in Africa could not be denied. The Germans had successfully snatched up all of central Africa, and the oil fields could be put to use fueling the Wehrmacht's operations in Russia and Cameroon, all with minimal casualties. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the German tourist made it out just fine: she had been released by strikers before the invasion even started.
The diplomatic consequences however were terrible. South Africa under the National Party had previously been on the verge of aligning with Germany, but in the aftermath of this attack the neutralist faction was greatly empowered, which wished to bring in some American influence in order to balance Germany and avoid submitting to anyone’s hegemony. Portuguese ties were of course totally broken and Spain, which had been trying to retain good relations with both Germany and Italy after the economic crash, now decided that Germany and specifically Hitler was unreliable and increasingly irrational. As such Franco decided to buff up his northern border defense and align more closely with Italy. This would be the first step in the formation of Iberia. All of this could have been made up for in part by their new land: Angola and Mozambique were some of the fastest growing economies in Africa, and there was a brief hope that this would aid the ailing German African economy. But it was not to be: the Portuguese and Asians who had the technical know-how in those economies almost universally elected to flee the nazi conquest, either to South Africa or more often back to Portugal itself. While doing so they took with them everything of value they could, both to ensure their livelihoods in Portugal and to spite the Hun. Franco and Salazar both aided this by providing transport for those wishing to flee and able to provide Portuguese citizenship. As such the local economies of the conquered territory were suddenly devastated by the near total flight of local talent and management.

Perhaps ironically, the element which would most fiercely resist the German invasion was the armed Africans. Knowing that they had nowhere else to run to and that the Germans would provide neither employment nor mercy, black Portuguese soldiers became the first meaningful resistance to Germany in Angola and Mozambique.
The responses to this by the German RKs were different. In Sudwestafrika Kommissar Bernhard Ruberg saw this as a good thing and made no effort to stop the exodus. He did not consider the Portuguese to be racially Aryan and likely to cause trouble in any case. As such their voluntary removal from his new territory was something to be encouraged, as Sudwestafrika was intended to be a settlor colony dominated by a new Aryan Nazi elite. This had the desired effect of nearly totally draining Angola of Portuguese people and many educated Africans, at the cost of the Angolan economy becoming utterly derelict. Ostafrika Kommissar Theodor Eicke saw things differently. Though he agreed that the racial quality of these people were dubious, he also wished to take full advantage of the economic potential of Mozambique. More importantly, the flight of aggrieved former residents just across the border to South Africa represented a security risk, as they may organize resistance groups in the comparative safety of South Africa. When SA refused his request that they close the border and repatriate those who had fled, Eicke took matters into his own hands and declared that he would not permit anyone to leave until the state of emergency was lifted. This had the desired effect of initially retaining the economic functionality of Mozambique, but this came at the cost of the populations ire against him and giving both white and black Mozambique a common enemy, for perhaps the first time in their history. The only territory to be smoothly integrated into its new status was Cabinda, which was handed to Zentralafrika under Carl Krogmann. Being the most liberal of the Kommissars and concerned primarily with economic extraction, the new port and oil field was swiftly taken under new management with little change to the working laws.
In 1962 the status of these territories has not changed much. Germany has not officially annexed either one, instead placing them under indefinite RK “trusteeship”. Portugal, or now Iberia, retains their claim to the territory and routinely demands its return. The RKs meanwhile treat them as piggy banks for their own projects. In Sudwestafrika Ruberg maintains a policy of “southern favoritism”, prioritizing the development and colonization of the original German colony above all else. As such, though he retains tight control over the Angolan provinces, they are purely a means to extract wealth for himself and to finance/supply the ongoing colonization effort to the south. The economy of this area remains destitute as all productivity is redirected away from the area. The area is restive, but as of yet organized resistance remains weak and divided. The same can not be said of Mozambique. Here the economy has also suffered, but only because of the increasingly strict security measures taken by Huttig and the African SS. Though he has managed to keep a lid on unrest and rebellion, the province remains a hotbed for clandestine radical groups and petty warlordism. This is unacceptable, and for his first task as head of security in Ostafrika Huttig shall seek to pacify Mozambique for good in 1962. Little Cabinda meanwhile has almost forgotten its former Portuguese status, having been integrated fully into the byzantine structure of Zentralafrika.
The final piece of this puzzle to consider is the role of the African exile. Many educated Africans took the opportunity to flee the nazi and returned to Portugal or were in Portugal at the time, including men like Joaquim Chissano, Eduardo Mondlane and Agostinho Neto. These exiled intellectuals were unable to find a place in Iberian society: opposed to colonialism and typically Marxist in inclination, most would have ended up exiled or arrested. However when there is no longer any Angola or Mozambique for the Portuguese to lose, suddenly these radicals become far less of an issue. Salazar would never go so far as to support their ambitions, but so long as their liberation committees remain strictly focused on their home nations he is willing to tolerate them. As such the intellectual growth of pan Africanism and African socialism has been able to ferment in Portugal and to a lesser extent America, where they have a sympathetic audience and tolerant authorities. Such student-led groups have only weak ties to the homeland, but nonetheless are a circle of committed and familiar revolutionaries who will jump at the opportunity to undermine the Germans should the opportunity arrive. Once the Russian exiles were a dead end and irrelevant group. Now the names of Lenin, Bukharin and Trotsky are celebrated by socialists across the world. Who is to say the “Lisbon colony” will not achieve something similar?

Eduardo Mondlane pictured with his American wife (right). The issue of becoming \"westernized\" is one of the many fissures which threaten to split the exile pan-Africanists: how can an African man say he is fighting western imperialism while he marries their women, wears their suits and participates in their capitalist economy? Of course, the response is that such complaints are unrealistic, or immature, or even racist. When the exiles return after the fall of German Africa, who knows what the people they both claim to represent will say?

2023.03.29 17:29 Clean-Economics-8900 Three hands: greed loses value

Here are three recent hands from wild 1-3 home game with frequent straddles to 10+. They all have in common that I feel like I lost value from being too greedy (to various degrees). Would appreciate your input on my thought process and my analysis.

1:

Straddle on to 12 (from early position, not very relevant), two limps to tilted whale in CO who makes it 50, H on BTN w/ KK rause to 150, folds back to V in CO who calls (400 behind, H covers). Pot 320 or so.
Flop: J63r
V checks, H shoves ~400 eff, V folds.
What an absolute spazz by me. On this driest of all flops, what do I expect to get value from? AJ and QQ exactly? Should have cbet small instead, like 75 or so. I have no problem getting it in with three streets of tiny bets.

2:

Same tilted whale straddles to 15 from middle position. H next to act raise Kd8d to 35 (maybe a bit small). Two callers (tight-passive old fart on BTN and straddler whale to my right, H in the middle). Pot ~100.
Flop: Jx2x3d.
Checks around.
Turn: 7d.
X to H, H 50, BTN calls (~330 behind), whale folds. Pot ~200.
River: 6d
H shoves (330 eff), BTN folds.
Again a spazz. What am I trying to get called by? A worse flush? Random two pair? BTN likely has a weak J or worse here. I should target that by betting 100 or even 75. If V has a flush, he might even value own himself.

3:

V straddle to 13 in middle position, two limps to H in BB (1500eff, V covers) raise AhKh to 50, 3 callers. Pot 200.
Should have raised bigger here, like 80 at least.
Flop: 2d4h6h
Check to H, H 75, only V in MP calls. Pot 350
I don't like my cbet here. First it's too small, second I don't mind checking it through and third I'd love to check-raise here with tons of equity and a clear overpair advantage.
Turn: 7h
H bet 150, V call. Pot 650
I don't like my sizing here. I'm plenty deep with V and really need to push the gas to get money in. If V has an overpair, he'll call 250 just the same, even more so if he has some random straight.
River: Tx
H tanks shoves 1200. V folds.
I tanked partially for Hollywood, partially to think about sizing. In the moment I got weirdly paranoid about betting around 400 and getting shoved on by a straight flush (complete nonsense, I know). I ultimately decide to shove for $1200, seeing how that is the line I should likely take with a naked Ah (whether I would have the guts to do that, I don't know). In retrospect I should have targeted TT/JJ/QQ with a size around 400-500 I guess. V claimed "you would be dead if the board paired" so, he claims to have had a set? I don't believe that at all... Maybe 77?
Anyway, this is how I spazzed away about $1k in likely value from getting too greedy with huge made hands. All input is welcome, looking forward to your opinions!

We also regret to inform you that some misinformation may have been mixed in regarding the explosions and flashes at the site of the Five-Point Citadel, the launching of non-shipborne aircraft and tactical ship movements, which may have been caused by the misleading 'assault' title given to the ship by the CEO. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our customer centre.
It is our mission at Blitz Industry to respond to the voices of our customers. We look forward to your continued guidance and encouragement in the future.

2023.03.29 17:27 mendesjuniorm [News] Brazilian supreme court upholds decision to oblige Apple to provide a charger in the box of iPhones sold nationally.

The Federal Court determined that Apple should continue to sell any iPhone model with the battery charger in Brazil. The decision, issued by Judge Daniele Maranhão, of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region, was a request from the Attorney General of the Union (AGU).
The Federal Court has ruled that Apple should continue to sell the iPhone with battery charger in Brazil;
The Ministry of Justice had suspended the sale of the iPhone without the charger, claiming that the practice could contain several irregularities against the consumer;
The Attorney General of the Union made a request to the Federal Court for Apple to be obliged to sell the iPhone with a charger;
Apple claimed that it stopped selling the charger to reduce carbon emissions.
If the company fails to comply with the determination and sells the device without the cable, the sale of the cell phones will remain suspended in the country, according to the determination of the Ministry of Justice.
In September 2022, the Ministry of Justice had stopped the sale of the iPhone without the charger, claiming that the practice could contain several irregularities against the consumer, such as the sale of incomplete product, transfer of responsibility to third parties and married sale. The federal agency made the request against an appeal from Apple, which was trying to suspend the decision.
The AGU pointed out that the company continued to sell the device without the cable, even after receiving fines from the Procons of São Paulo, Fortaleza, Santa Catarina and Caldas Novas (GO), in addition to some contrary decisions in court. In early March, the Procon of Minas Gerais fined Apple R$ 12 million for the same reason.
Apple said, at the time of the suspension, that it stopped the sale of the charger to reduce carbon emissions. In response to the Digital Look, Apple said it had already appealed the decision.
The decision of the Federal Court prevents the company from following the practice of not including the charger in the iPhone case. In October 2020, Apple had announced that it would no longer include the charger with mobile phones, claiming that the decision was part of its environmental goals.
Samsung also adopted the practice in January 2021, but later included the charger in the box of its devices. In October 2021, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security notified companies for not following the guidelines to justify the lack of chargers on their cell phones.
In May 2022, Senacon advised Procon units to initiate administrative proceedings against Apple and Samsung for the sale of mobile phones without chargers.

2023.03.29 17:26 ElBeh Confused about seller fees [NYC]

Hi all, I'm getting ready to buy an apartment and have a spreadsheet I put together to help me model pricing.
One thing I'm confused about is seller fees. Is the seller on the hook for the entirety of the broker + tax + bank fees? Or does the bank handling your mortgage handle part of that?
In other words, let's say I buy an apartment for $1 million and put $300,000 down. So I have 30% "equity" in the home and the bank "owns" 70%.
If I sell it in 5 years, let's say I pay $100,000 in broker + tax + bank fees.
Does the bank pay 70% of the broker fee, because they "own" 70% of the apartment? Or am I on the hook for the entire $100,000?
To put it another way — do I need the price of the apartment to appreciate by $100,000 to break even? Or by more like $300,000, because the bank is still getting 70% of the sale price?
(I know these percentages aren't totally realistic, your type of mortgage is a factor, and "owning" isn't the technically correct terminology here — just trying to put together an example with easily digestible numbers.)

You just don’t know how…
My name’s Iman Gadzhi and since 2017, I’ve run IAG Media.

2023.03.29 17:08 StepwiseUndrape574 Surge In Carjackings Has A Chicago Politician Calling For A Grand Theft Auto Game Ban

Violence is on the rise in Chicago, and lawmakers are looking for ways to drive those numbers back down. One stat that has drawn attention in recent weeks is the city's number of carjackings. According to Chicago police, carjacking surged by 134 percent for 2020, bringing the total to 1,415. Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. (D), whose district covers Chicago's South Side, wants a sales ban to minors on violent video games like Grand Theft Auto. Evans is proposing an amendment to an existing 2012 law that prevents the sale of violent video games to minors. Illinois House Bill 3531 (HB3531) has been updated to add the following language:
Modifies the definition of "violent video game" to mean a video game that allows a user or player to control a character within the video game that is encouraged to perpetuate human-on-human violence in which the player kills or otherwise causes serious physical or psychological harm to another human or an animal...
Modifies the definition of "serious physical harm" to include psychological harm and child abuse, sexual abuse, animal abuse, domestic violence, violence against women, or motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present inside the vehicle when the theft begins.
The above-bolded text is pertinent to Grand Theft Auto, a widely popular game franchise that allows you to perform carjackings (among other violent and heinous acts). However, what's interesting is that games like Grand Theft Auto and its ilk have been around for decades; this is nothing new. A game like Grand Theft Auto alone couldn't possibly be responsible for the rise in the city's carjackings. Still, lawmakers and city officials are seemingly trying to tie the young ages of some of the carjacking suspects with the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic means that many children are at home, spending more time playing video games.
grand theft auto carjacking The youngest [recent] carjacking suspect was just 12 years old, and a 14-year-old was arrested in January for "taking part in multiple carjackings," according to Fox News.
"I feel like this game has become a huge issue in this spectrum," said Walker in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. "When you compare the two, you see harsh similarities as it relates to these carjackings."
As a counterpoint to the rumblings in Chicago, a decade-long study concluded that this is no credible link between kids playing violent video games and, in-turn exhibiting violent behavior.

2023.03.29 17:05 anarul294 How To Find The Best Cash House Buyers in Your Area

Are you looking to sell your house quickly? Do you need cash now and don't want to wait for a traditional home sale process? If so, then cash house buyers may be the best option for you! Cash house buying companies are becoming increasingly popular, as they allow homeowners to quickly and efficiently convert their homes into money. But with so many different cash house buyers out there, it can be difficult to know who to trust. In this blog post, we will break down the process of finding the best possible cash house buyer in your area. We'll discuss how to research their reputation and past transactions, compare price offers from multiple bidders, and ultimately pick the best offer for your needs. Read on to learn more about what goes into making this important decision.

Research local cash house buyers in your area using online reviews and real estate websites

If you're looking to quickly sell a house, researching local cash buyers in your area is an important first step. There are plenty of resources available to help you in this process, from the trustworthy reviews available on different websites to real estate sites that can provide valuable information about local businesses that offer cash-for-house services. Exploring these possibilities can give you a better understanding of which companies offer the best deals and allow you to make a more informed decision about who to work with for your house sale. Taking the time to research potential buyers carefully is sure to pay off if it means getting the most out of your sale.

Ask friends, family members, or colleagues for referrals to reliable cash house buyers

If you're looking to sell your home quickly and still receive a fair cash offer, it's important to find a reliable, trustworthy buyer. One great way of doing so is to ask friends, family members, or colleagues who have sold recently if they can provide any referrals. Since most satisfied clients will be happy to pass on their experiences and share the details of their transaction with others, you may be able to find someone with whom you can confidently enter into an agreement without taking too much risk. Many real estate professionals also keep records of reputable buyers and are more than willing to discuss potential referrals with their customers. Taking advice from those in the know is one of the best ways to secure a fast sale for your home without feeling like you've been taken advantage of.

Contact cash house buyers and ask questions about their services and fees

If you're looking to sell your house fast and hassle-free without the tiresome process of finding a real estate broker, reaching out to cash house buyers could be a great option. Contacting these companies can help you learn more about the services they provide. Ask questions like how long it takes them to close the sale, what kind of fees they take, and how their rates compare with traditional real estate transactions. Additionally, don't be afraid to ask for references from past customers so you can get an idea of how reliable the cash house buyers are. A few simple questions can create peace of mind so you know that you're making an informed decision about selling your property.

Check for proper licensing and insurance to ensure that you're dealing with a reputable buyer

No matter what you're selling, it's always best to be sure that the buyer you're dealing with is reputable and trustworthy. That's why it's important to check if they are properly licensed and insured before making any transactions. It may take a bit of extra time, but it certainly beats the alternative of dealing with someone unscrupulous who could potentially end up not paying or worse yet, attempt to scam you in some way. Doing your due diligence ahead of time by checking for proper licensing and insurance will ensure that your dealings go as smoothly as possible and that you get the payment you are expecting in a timely manner.

Compare offers from multiple cash house buyers before making a decision

When it comes to selling a home quickly, cash house buyers can be an excellent option. However, it's important to remember that not all cash house buyers offer the same services - and it’s equally important to compare offers from multiple sources before making a decision. Doing so helps ensure that sellers receive top dollar for their homes and also get exactly what they are looking for in terms of flexibility and timing. Taking some extra time to compare offers can potentially save sellers thousands of dollars and make an otherwise stressful situation into an easier process overall.

Negotiate the best price possible and review all paperwork carefully before signing any contracts

While seeking services, it is important to pay attention to the details. Taking the time to negotiate any costs can be beneficial in the long run. Make sure you ask as many questions as needed, obtaining a clear understanding of what is included and not included in the contract. Don't forget to read all paperwork thoroughly and carefully so you know exactly what you are agreeing to. It's always a sound decision to double check for any discrepancies that could come up in the future or any matters that need further negotiations. Taking charge of these details will ensure your satisfaction when making the most cost-effective investment.
Selling your house to a cash house buyer can seem like a daunting process, but by doing your research and taking the necessary steps you can find a reputable buyer who will offer you the best price. Take the time to review local cash buyers' ratings and reviews as well as any referrals you may have received from friends, family members, or colleagues. When reaching out to buyers, ask about their services and fees, make sure they’re properly licensed and insured, compare offers from multiple buyers, and negotiate for the best price possible. And lastly, check over all documents carefully before signing off on any contracts. By following these suggestions you will be in the best position to make an informed decision that's in line with your needs and expectations.

2023.03.29 17:03 wandering_hedgehog A message to those in the PhD battle

Not sure if vent is the right flair, but I’m not viva-ed yet so post-PhD isn’t quite right…anyway here we go:
At the end of last year I was trying to finish my thesis and was so stressed out. I ended up writing most of my thesis in about 2 months leading up to my (then) deadline. Stressed out doesn’t even cover it - I wasn’t sleeping or eating. Unsurprisingly I lost way too much weight, my hair started falling out, and I was having true panic attacks (like the kind where I genuinely felt like I was dying and were terrifying agony) daily. I was running on coffee for on and diazepam for off.
Even posted about my panic and reading that post back now, I realise I was a rambling, manic mess. My entire world had shrunk to the size of a latex project.
Ended up having a total mental breakdown, getting an extension, and actually taking a break. I hadn’t even planned the break, I just couldn’t even face opening my laptop. I would start feeling sick and get this wave of terror whenever I even just thought about it.
When I got back to it, I really tried to limit myself. No working after 6pm. Made plans with friends. I reminded myself that it will be finished when it’s finished.
I acknowledge my privilege that I was able to sustain myself without my stipend for a few months due to an inheritance. Which also brings me to my next point:
Life (and death) goes on during the PhD. I deeply regret that I put my PhD above everything, even going to visit my family who live in different countries. Two of my grandparents passed during my PhD. My grandad had been unwell for a long time and his passing was sad, but I had had a long time to prepare. But my grandma, whom I was very close to, passed extremely unexpectedly at the end of last year, and I hadn’t seen her for 3 years. We talked on the phone a lot, but it had been my choice to not go back home to see her because I was “too busy”.
Life carrying on throughout the PhD has been a general theme tbh - I had to have multiple surgeries*, had several bouts of severe depression, a relationship breakdown (understatement of the decade - it was a fucking nuclear bomb in my life), and ofc like many, covid and brexit. And at one point my external hard drive crashed and I lost all my images and associated data (no they weren’t backed up bc i’m dumb and also I didn’t have any space on any server - a large number of huge image files).
*re: surgeries: injury I’ve had since a child reared it’s head causing mobility issues… and I was not given any adjustments to help me navigate the building or labs with a walking stick which was just super. Not super relevant just still bitter about it.
And today I submitted.
It feels bittersweet.
I feel anxious that I missed something and scared that it’s not good enough. But I am physically and mentally done. I keep reminding myself that “finished is better than perfect”.
If you are in the trenches - I promise there is an end. It doesn’t feel like there ever will be, but one day you will realise that the battle is over and there is nothing left to do.
