- Material Girls (2006)

Little-known fact: Joe Viterelli appears in 4 of these movies.
I don't expect anyone else to be into this idea but I do think it would be good. Only four of these are regular period adaptations and the latter two chronologically have a fun element that sets them apart. I think this would be a lot less "samey" than people would expect.

Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-30/when-do-student-loan-payments-resume-borrowers-dread-restart-later-this-year?srnd=premium Paywall Bypass: https://archive.is/PnJyB Gen-Z Graduates Stare Down Their First Student Loan Payments
- Three years after the pandemic-era freeze was introduced, millions of recent graduates have yet to see a student loan bill.
Millions of students graduated during the pandemic with student debt. They have yet to make a single payment.
The moratorium on federal student loan payments, which began three years ago this month, has given recent graduates the financial freedom to pay down debt, boost their credit scores and simply cover everyday expenses at a time of high inflation and economic uncertainty. All that is set to change soon, with payments scheduled to resume later this year.
The restart is likely to be a jolt for nearly everyone with federal student loans (private loans weren’t part of the pause), but perhaps no cohort will feel it quite like Generation Freeze, which has never had to budget for it. That’s likely to slow consumer spending and
hurt the economy, according to a recent report from financial services firm Jefferies.“
The loans being paused was great because I paid the minimum for my private loans and that was it,” said Alix Chronister, a 24-year-old in Kansas City, Missouri. “If I had had to pay on my federal loans, my financial situation would have been a lot more stressful.”
End of an Era
The first 60-day repayment pause was issued by President Donald Trump on March 20, 2020, when the onset of the pandemic sent the economy into a tailspin. Three years, multiple extensions and one presidential administration later, the freeze is still in place and about 11 million people have since completed undergraduate degrees. Of those,
an estimated 70% leave college with student debt.
But the freeze era is drawing to a close. President Joe Biden
said in late November that payments will resume 60 days after the Supreme Court rules on his one-time
forgiveness program or June 30, whichever comes first. That puts the restart date at no later than Aug. 29, and the first monthly installment would be due by the end of September.
For Chronister, that means a big financial adjustment is coming. She graduated in 2021 with $38,000 in private and federal loans and currently works as a chemist in a research facility. She has prioritized paying off the private loans, which make up $8,000 of her total balance.
The freeze was particularly useful because she was making $15 an hour at her first post-collegiate job, amounting to about $30,000 a year.
She’s eligible for $20,000 in forgiveness if the Supreme Court rules in favor of Biden’s plan — but she’s not holding her breath.“I think I’m really lucky to have had the pause, and it definitely benefited me and people who graduated around the same time,” she said. “We’ve had a chance to get our careers situated before worrying about paying.”
The average
monthly payment before the pandemic pause was $393, according to the Federal Reserve. About 20 million
borrowers were actively paying down their debt, while others were in default or had their payments deferred due to hardship or forbearance.
Depending on a borrower’s personal financial situation, the return of student loan bills won’t be like flicking an immediate “on” switch. Travis Hornsby, founder of financial service website Student Loan Planner, can see a case where some borrowers might not be expected to pay for another year or two based on their income. New rules for
income-driven repayment plans would also widen the net for those who may qualify for a $0 monthly bill, and cap payments at no more than 5% of discretionary income for others.“
Compared to what payments used to be, a lot of people are going to be very much eased into repayment,” said Hornsby. That would help not only fresh college grads, but single parents and others who were previously at risk of default. “The freeze is sort of being thawed.”
Looming Bills
The freeze means many recent graduates have never had to factor federal student loan repayments into their monthly budgets, a helpful absence as prices rise for everything from eggs to rent. In a
recent survey by personal-finance company Credit Karma , 26% of borrowers said they hadn’t saved any money during the freeze because they were prioritizing everyday expenses. Almost 70% said their financial situation was stagnant or declined in 2022.
For Madison Sasser in Tampa, Florida, the freeze gave her time to figure out her career trajectory without having to worry about an additional monthly bill. The 24-year-old graduated from the University of South Florida in December 2020 with $15,000 in student debt.
She initially wanted to go to law school but decided it was too expensive. Now, she’s working on building a career as a writer while waiting tables at a restaurant during the day, and makes about $38,000 a year.
The return of monthly payments is going to significantly strain her budget, she said, especially due to the high rents in Tampa.
The average starting salary for a member of the class of 2021 is $55,911, according to
a July 2022 analysis by the National Association of Colleges and Employers. For young people who live in big cities and lack the financial and career flexibility to move to places with lower costs of living, those early salaries
may not stretch very far.
Matthew Sánchez, a 23-year-old compliance officer who lives in Long Island, New York, says having to repay his loans will be stressful.
“For me personally, I can probably make do and adjust,” he said, though he expects he’ll have to delay a move to Maryland, which he’s trying to plan because it’s more affordable.
He’s bracing for a monthly payment of $300 on $27,000 in federal loans. He knows he’s on the luckier side: “I’m always thinking about how this affects my demographic, broadly speaking. I can see the frustration people have.”

2023.03.30 19:07 sci_and_eng Finite automata for Complex Event Detection
I'm trying to understand how to solve the problem of pattern matching in a stream of objects that represent events. Each object has keys and values. For example {name: "John Doe", "location": "latt: 40, long: 50", ...}. The pattern I want to match is for example an object with name="John Doe" followed within 5 seconds by an object with name="Jane Doe".
This can be solved using finite automata. There needs to be a transition to the reset state, and a transition to matching Joe Done, and a transition to match also Jane Doe.
When programming this in Java, one approach is to use int state, then add some if/else conditions to change the state depending on whether the input event has the expected name, and so on.
I don't want to use a 3rd party software which compiles some made up language into automata. I want to design and implement automata myself to have a full control over what it is doing, and to make it easier to debug and test.
- Is there any particular tool which I can use to design finite automata efficiently and to generate a java code?
- Can you advise on a method to specify requirements, design, construct, and test an automata-based application for pattern matching in a stream of objects?
- Is there any background theory which you would recommend that is specific for coding custom pattern matching apps using automata in Java without using frameworks?

2023.03.30 19:04 fan_of_hakiksexydays Proposal: Allow more different comments and more users more time to vote and reply to a post before locking in the sort by best. Right now it's too short, and we keep ending up with the same moonfarmers who didn't read the post, getting at the top of best before it's locked.
Keep in mind, if you like the sort by best, you'll still be able to manually switch it at any time, during that period it's sorted by new.
The problem:
Right now the window is very short, and it only gives you around 15-20 minutes I think.
That's why you keep seeing people rush in to comment, usually without even reading anything in the post, or in the link. They want to be at the top before "best" is locked as the default.
So we always end up with the "best" locking up the same handful of moonfarmers saying some vote-bait generic comment like "just DCA" "nice try IRS", etc... Or just a joke, or something only related to the title but not the post.
And if the top comments we see are the ones from people who don't read, then it's no wonder we get a reputation of "always do the opposite of what the sub tells you".
It can take a little while before we get a good comment actually answering the post.
Higher risk of manipulation:
Because the window is short, the comments are already locked to best before the post has enough time to be visible long enough at the top of the hot section, and starts to pop up on people's feed. So by the time average Joe sees it, it's already too late for them to pull out a good comment, and any new comment is already getting buried.
I know when I see something pop up on my feed, it's usually more than 30 minutes old already.
And because the general users haven't gotten a chance to sort out what's good in the new comments, it's easier to manipulate this with a little bit of collusion. The strict window means manipulation doesn't get enough of a chance to get outweighed by popular voting.
So you essentially have a chance to collude on what gets bumped up, while most people aren't looking yet.
The solution:
If you give a post more time to be sorted by new, then everyone who views the comments, isn't gonna just see the same handful of fast fingers moonfarmers getting all the visibility. They'll have more time to pick a good comment, and there's also more chance for someone who took the time to actually read the post and actually answer OP's question, or find a counter argument.
Additionally, I believe it could be a rough time, so people won't know exactly when the switch is made.
My concern isn't even just with Moonfarmers exploiting a weakness in the system, it's more our sub turning into an idiocracy, and the visibility going to people who never bother to read, or bots posting generic comments in any new post.

(Didnt send this message while you were asleep because I don't wanna do or send any stuff when you're asleep and not in control as it can trigger you )
It's so very important to not lose a sense of who you are. Please do things that make you happy. I know you love buying stones, hell yeah buy them to your heart's content. I know you love thrifting. Please do things that make you happy. You love kuwtk and joe yanks, thats good. It's a great distraction. It gives you moments of relief and thats very important. You love starbucks, veggie burger, fry sauce, playing with your nephews, listening to joji, billy joel, thrifting and buying cute clothes, astrology and moon stuff and witchcraft?, looking at houses on Architectural digest, these are the little things in life that give you joy and it is so important to enjoy them.
It might seem like everyone's life is moving forward while you're still stuck. That's okay. There is no rulebook to life. Take things at your own pace. Take things slowly. Prioritize your comfort and mental wellness. Being in pain makes you so vulnerable to developing unhealthy coping mechanisms like alcohol or drugs. But i know you are one strong person. You quit nicotine ( one of the most difficult things in the world to quit). I couldn't have done it, but you did it. That just shows how strong you are and i am so so so proud of you. Crying, expressing your emotions, being depressed, feeling hurt, they're not signs of weakness. People who hurt you are the weak ones. You endured the hurt and are still so kind to everyone in your life. You are one tough cookie.
Its okay to be angry. Your anger is very valid after what you've been through. You always blamed yourself hitting your ex. It wasnt abuse, it was defense. It was your way of taking back control and it was 100% justified. People hurting you is not your fault. It is their fault, they are pieces of shit (including me). You called me your chosen family and that's the most beautiful thing to say to any person. It just shows that your kindness has always been there. You are so considerate that you even apologized for that silly joke about adhd "at least i can watch a full movie". I honestly thought that was funny and my kind of humor . You pointed it out when i jokingly said the 'r' word and said that it wasn't appropriate. That moment showed how considerate and sweet you are. You care about people's feelings, you care about how you make them feel, you are a gem of a person. And no one can take that away from you. No one can take sylvie away from you. You are precious.
When i called you yesterday and you were crying that's the most amount of pain i have seen any person in. It was so heartbreaking to see you like that and that i was the one who pushed you to such a breakdown. It's important to focus on the positive people in your life - your mom who is the sweetest and loveliest (amazing piano player too), your dad who is so caring and understanding and empathetic, and your sister Mary who is your best friend. (she deserves an entire page of apology from me on how i talked to her). Storm loves you, They love you and they have your back no matter what. Dont hesitate to hug them anytime you wake up in the middle of the night during a nightmare. Your home is your safe space. You are safe in it. Your family is your safe space. 2023.03.30 18:29 wittybittykitty Charleston wholesale florist for non-florist?
Hi! I’m thinking of doing some of my wedding florals myself (SP24 wedding), and have heard Costco and Trader Joe’s will typically let you order flowers in bulk (but may not get to choose colors in advance), does anyone know of any wholesale florists in the Charleston SC area who allow non-florists to place orders? Feel free to PM me if posting businesses isn’t allowed! Ty!

https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/march-28-2023 Today, House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) sent a letter to President Joe Biden accusing him of being “missing in action” on efforts to address the approaching debt ceiling crisis. McCarthy accused Biden of “putting an already fragile economy in jeopardy” and tried to portray himself as the reasonable party, trying to negotiate “what is best for the American people.”
It was a simply astonishing document, brazen in its suggestion that it is Biden who is taking an “extreme position” on the debt ceiling when in fact it is the Republicans who are threatening to destroy the world’s economy to get their way. They are insisting they will hold the debt ceiling hostage to force a wide range of spending cuts, and also to push policies like easier access to drilling permits.
Once again, the debt ceiling is not about future spending. It’s about meeting the obligations past Congresses have incurred. And a great deal of that debt was incurred during the Trump administration, in large part from the 2017 tax cuts that the Congressional Budget Office estimated would cost almost $2 trillion over 11 years.
Congress voted to increase the debt ceiling three times during the Trump administration. Biden had been clear that he expects it to do so again; he will not negotiate over paying the nation’s bills.
But, as part of the normal budget process, he has also been clear that he is more than happy—eager, even—to debate budget proposals with the Republicans. Biden produced a budget on March 9 and has said that he will enter into negotiations just as soon as the Republicans produce a budget proposal of their own.
But this they cannot do. McCarthy has promised dramatic cuts to the budget that he cannot deliver without cutting Social Security and Medicare, which the Republicans have agreed not to cut. At the same time, House Republicans have vowed to get rid of the provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act that fund the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), invest in addressing climate change, establish a minimum tax on the wealthy, and give the government the power to negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies, provisions that the Committee for a Responsible Budget projects will save the government almost $2 trillion over 2 decades.
And so, McCarthy published a letter trying to blame Biden for the mess the House speaker is in.
Biden responded immediately to McCarthy’s extraordinary public letter with one of his own, thanking the speaker for his communication and reiterating that Congress has always increased the debt ceiling without conditions and should “act quickly to do so now.”
“We can agree,” he wrote, “that an unprecedented default would inflict needless economic pain on hard-working Americans and that the American people have no interest in brinksmanship. That is why House Democrats joined with House Republicans and voted to avoid default throughout the Trump Administration—without conditions, despite disagreements about budget priorities. That same standard should apply today.”
Biden noted that he had already provided the American people with his own detailed budget, one that would reduce the deficit by nearly $3 trillion over ten years by increasing taxes on the wealthy and on corporations, cutting subsidies for the oil and gas industries, and expanding the list of drugs over which Medicare can negotiate with pharmaceutical companies. “My proposals enable us to lower costs for families and invest in our economic growth, all while reducing the deficit,” Biden wrote.
“Unfortunately,” he continued, the Republicans' proposals would “exacerbate the debt problem I inherited by adding over $3 trillion” with more tax cuts “skewed to the same constituencies who should be paying more, like multinational corporations and the richest taxpayers.” He urged McCarthy, once again, to produce a detailed budget plan rather than vague calls for savings, “so we can understand the full, combined impact on the deficit, the economy, and American families.”
Biden asked McCarthy to produce a Republican budget plan before Congress’s Easter recess “so that we can have an in-depth conversation when you return. As I have repeatedly said, that conversation must be separate from prompt action on the Congress’ basic obligation to pay the Nation’s bills and avoid economic catastrophe.”
Republicans are using similar brinksmanship with regard to the military to push their extremist agenda.
Back in July, just after the Supreme Court overturned the 1973
Roe v. Wade decision, Pentagon officials warned the House Armed Services Committee that the abortion restrictions promptly imposed by Republican-dominated legislatures were adding to the military’s recruiting crisis by creating new family planning problems for military families. More than 100 military installations with about 240,000 service members are located in states that have total abortion bans, and Gil Cisneros, the Pentagon’s chief of personnel and readiness, warned that the new laws would hurt recruiting and that service members would leave the military rather than continue to live in those states.
In February, the military launched a policy permitting military personnel up to three weeks’ leave and reimbursement for travel expenses to go to a state that permits abortion care and fertility treatments. Those rules went into effect this month.
Now, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is refusing to permit senior military promotions—at this point 160 of them—in protest of the military’s rules covering reproductive health care. “You all have the American taxpayer on the hook to pay for travel and time off for elective abortions,” Tuberville said to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin today as he spoke before the Senate Armed Services Committee. “And you did not make this [policy] with anybody in this room or Congress taking a vote.”
Austin responded that women make up almost 20% of the military and about 80,000 are stationed in states that don’t have access to abortion (and men want to plan their families as well). Tuberville’s hold on promotions means that senior officials cannot rotate into new positions, leaving the military without leaders in places like the Navy’s 5th Fleet, which oversees military operations in the Middle East and which is due for a new leader within the next few months. Those holes will become worse over the next several months as key military leaders are set to retire or rotate out of their posts.
Austin warned that Tuberville’s stance affects military readiness, and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that Tuberville’s brinksmanship with the military risks “permanently politicizing the confirmation of military personnel…. If every single one of us objected to the promotion of military personnel whenever we feel passionately or strongly about an issue, our military would simply grind to a halt,” Schumer pointed out.
Tuberville says he will not stop his objections until the abortion policy is ended.

2023.03.30 18:22 St_Frantic What's your opinion on Mario's drums on The Link?
I know some people love it, some people like myself can appreciate it, but feel like it's the least good amongst all the records. I problem with it is it either sounds completely fake, like program drums, or just extremely triggered. It feels like it has no dynamics to it, like every single hit no matter how fast, is the same loud thud. If you play faster naturally you have to hit softer, so the hit should be quieter. Which leads me to wonder, why Mario chose to sound? If it is program drums, which we both all know he is completely capable of playing all this, it could have been a money issue or time issue or both, but then again I could see Mario doing all of those drum tracks and one or two days.
Even on the first record, I hear a little triggering going on in the bass drums, but other than that the rest of it sounds pretty raw and gritty. The later records all sound pretty natural, especially Fortitude which is some of the best mixing I've ever heard on drums. Like you can actually point out the ghost notes Mario does if you pay really close attention.
I know Joe said in an interview back during the magma era, that there is something particular on each record that they would like to go back and change, and I can't help but feel the drums would be one thing on the The Link. It's the only record that has a completely triggered sound on the drums. If you were to put that with Joe's modern vocals, and replace the drums with a more natural sound, it would be a perfect record. It's still not bad, but as a drummer of 20 plus years, it's hard to ignore. The album does have some of my favorite tracks, Remembrance and Wisdom Comes.
