A sub for appreciating the color of nature, and all things that share it. Pretty much everything is welcome, except for hate towards green things. Green eggs and ham would be welcome here.

I got this egg the other day and it doesn’t look anything like the eggs I’d been getting. It’s like a grayish green and the bottom discolored portion is rough to the touch. All the other eggs I’ve gotten have been more speckled and smooth.

2023.06.06 02:55 Formal_Pea9167 I Belatedly Watch Paige's Paris Vlog For You
Let's jet set off to Paris, mes petits choux! Fortunately for Paige but unfortunately for all of you, my healthcare coverage is really doing the most, by which I mean doing the least, and a lot of my snarky energy after work had to go into fighting with them to cover the same prescriptions they've been covering for the past over a decade, hooray for America. And then Paige topped this off by really putting out a half-assed turd sandwich of a vlog where 80% of it is her laying foundation on top of bronzer on top of foundation on top of bronzer. But for you, my little cabbages, I will do my best to recap any relevant points.
As always, here's the
vlog Bingo card for playing along at home. I add stuff to it every week as new trends emerge, your prize for winning is... something I haven't figured out yet. By doing everyone's birth charts I learned there's a ton of Virgo energy in this subreddit, though, so astrologically speaking you should all be satisfied with a virtual shoulder pat and being told you did a good job and you're the smartest person I've ever met.
- We open on Paige "typewriting" on screen that she went to Paris for 48 hours to see her boyfriend play tennis and here's how it went, which I don't think she intended to but inadvertently gives off the sense that we're about to enter into footage of a hostage negotiation? It's almost like if you don't consume art and instead magpie various aesthetic details and cobble them together, you ignorantly imply a lot of things you don't mean to imply, but what do I know!
- The first four minutes of this vlog are unspeakably boring. I can try to make them interesting for you, but what's the point? Paige opens up a brand new notebook and writes PARIS in it with a Sharpie. It's intially unclear why she does this, but then it becomes abundantly clear as this goes on that it's because Paige thought she'd be there way longer and didn't bother getting much or really any footage of anything, and now is desperately trying to pad this sucker out so she can get a midroll ad. It's a bunch of out of focus nonsense. Here's the only things that happen that are of any note:
- One of her giant checked suitcases when she packs is just labelled "work". I'm now entertaining wild speculations about what could take up an entire checked bag that she just had to bring to Paris under the assumption that she'd be there longer than 48 hours. My personal bet is that it's half denim samples, half reams of paper that she had Amanda print out with random graphs or pictures of generic clothing pieces and the text under it just reads "BUSINESS BUSINESS BUSINESS"
- When she gets to Paris Tommy comes downstairs wearing a green t-shirt. Later we see Paige wearing the same shirt but she dresses it up with a black bow in her hair. It looks dumb.
- Paige says hi to us from the bathroom mirror wearing a face mask after moisturizing her whole body because the airplane left her soooo dry. This is only notable because she claims she's going to rest for a bit by "reading some of her book" (we get it, Paige, you read my recaps, but I still don't believe you read anything besides that) before she unpacks, and also because she can't actually get the sentence out so it cuts every two words, and because it's handheld footage it's not steady, which means you kind of get this weird, jostly experience watching her try to form a sentence.
- Paige and Tommy go to the great shopping mecca that is Paris and appear to go to Kith and Sephora
- The food they eat does actually look pretty good
- The time breakdown of this is two minutes on the plane, two minutes in Paris, and then we get into the bulk of the video
- Getting ready time! Okay here's where it gets mildly more interesting, and by interesting I mean there's more to discuss besides half-assed B-roll. Before we start I should make clear, we're about to embark on a getting ready that is 15 minutes of a 20 minute video, and in this time the end result will be Paige looking almost identical to how she looks at the start of it. This detail stuck in my brain because I put this on for a first watch-through this morning while I was getting ready for work and putting on my own makeup. At first I was convinced she had done her makeup beforehand and was just mimicking putting it on because she was too vain to be seen without makeup, but re-watching it now that I'm home I don't think that's the case. I think she's had a lot of work done to make it look like she's always wearing makeup (semi-permanent makeup procedures, eyelash extensions, etc) and then genuinely spends a long time caking layers upon layers upon layers to look exactly the same. Which honestly makes me kind of sad. But I suppose Paige is contractually obliged to have at least one unwitting self-own she stumbles into every vlog where the curtain is pulled back and we gaze upon the vast chasm of insecurity inside her that comes from her being just aware enough to know that she knows nothing about what she's talking about at any given time and if she stopped being pretty to look at more people might point that out.
- Paige is really tan, you guys, and she feels like makeup doesn't work as well on her skin when she is. This is probably because not once in this entire routine does she PUT ON SUNSCREEN (even though she says prepping your skin before sitting in the sun all day is super important), like not even a BB cream with sunscreen in it. I have no hope of reaching Paige but girlypops! Wear! Your! Sunscreen! Get a spray tan if you want later, but skin cancer is real and not fun and even if you avoid skin cancer, being out in the sun like that makes you look like a leather raisin by middle age. Like she's sitting on a clay court? What are we doing here.
- If you were wondering if this is in fact a very long undisclosed ad roll, sure is
- Ah, one of the serums is so good, she actually got it while on a skiing trip. you know, because she's a skier.
- The reason Paige didn't come to Tommy's first match is because she had "a lot going on at home". Really essential stuff like paying other people to install a pre-built shed for her, buying a second horse, eating unwashed vegetables - important stuff.
- Oh my apologies she had a denim sample to approve. Not just any denim sample, a WHOLE denim sample, and that is what was in her "work" suitcase. Because idk international mail doesn't work? I mean I sound like I'm advocating she follow Tommy around and I actually think it's better that she doesn't, but also I'd rather she said "I missed Tommy's first match because it was really important to me to spend time seeing friends and family and recharging and resting" instead of pretending she was soooo busy being a Serious Business Girl. Like just be honest that following a man around isn't exhausting and boring and I wouldn't care.
- I will give it to Paige, she does admit her contour routine with like a dozen products is over the top, and if she left it at that it'd just be that she enjoys the ritual of that and it's fine, but she's like "I swear guys it's so good it makes such a difference" and that is where I draw the line. Contouring is the greatest scam the Kardashians have ever pulled and I do not trust anyone who says otherwise. Like we all did that exercise in middle school art class where we had to shade in shapes different ways, and it didn't ever change the shape, it just made it look like the light was coming from different directions. Paige says this is because contour "adds light and dimension and makes your skin look more healthy" but you know what else does that? Hydrating, wearing sunscreen, and NOT PUTTING ON FIFTEEN DIFFERENT TYPES OF FOUNDATION AND BRONZER. The same concept of "you can change where the light hits but not how the shape looks" that applies to drawing an egg applies to makeup - contouring does absolutely nothing unless you're a drag queen and also you're Trixie Mattel (hallowed be her name AND her commitment to producing really quality orange blushes. If you have warm-toned skin at all, use bronze, peach, and orange blushes this summer and thank me later).
- Also Paige clearly has not been paying attention because contouring looks and this cakey, Meredith Duxbury, early aughts Beauty YouTuber look is very much not the vibe? The hot thing right now is really natural, light, dewy stuff a la Rare Beauty or Glossier, and it's heavily inspired by K-Beauty and C-Beauty looks. Even I know this and my makeup looks better on me than Paige's does and it's not even my job to wear makeup or know about this stuff! No one's paying me to do this! Maybe they should be, I guess! (It shouldn't be, I'm very good at doing my face and my face only.)
- Honestly it looks a lot of the time here like Paige is putting mud on her face, and everything she shows and applies to her face is mud-colored, and it's just dingier and dingier and she would look so much better if instead of all of this she just did a nice warm terra cotta sort of blush and some highlighter. My kingdom for something to bring actual warmth or color to her face and not just look like she's smearing sparkly dishwater on herself.
- Paige blathers more about travelling and authenticity and how she travels a lot but also doesn't travel that much? I don't know it's all so meandering and nonsensical and I give up. The tl;dr is what I said before: she's a homebody who hates travel but knows if she just did the things that made her happy and let herself be boring, people would stop watching her, so she's trying to straddle an impossible line and since she can't admit that's what's happening, her explanations get increasingly convoluted and her definition of "authenticity" or us "getting it" comes to mean "whatever I like at the time is authentic and if it doesn't work out or backfires on me it's because I was feeling forced to be inauthentic, because I am authentically perfect and always right".
- See it's because she's NOT A CITY GIRL, it's not that she doesn't like TRAVEL, it's that she doesn't like travelling to CITIES because she's such a COUNTRY GIRL AT HEART, that's why she lives in a FARMHOUSE in CONNECTICUT, which is practically the sticks.
- "I got some really funny comments about this from you guys, I was actually cracking up" Paige says and then shows us comments of people kissing her ass for no reason, which she probably directly or indirectly paid for telling her how much better her home vlogs are.
- Paige puts on some MAC setting spray and this is where we get into Peak Paige, she tells us this story about how when she lived in NYC she made friends with a girl who worked at MAC and at first Paige didn't believe that the setting spray did anything but then her friend told her that unlike other setting sprays, the MAC stuff "leaves a layer over your skin that like... helps your makeup combine smoothly, so that's why if you love the MAC Fix Plus more than other setting sprays, it's because it actually has science behind it"
- I call this Peak Paige because it's something that's so obviously rich with lies while simultaneously very likely being an undisclosed advertisement that you could spend hours unpacking this. Like which part is the lie, that Paige made a friend? Was this "friend" someone she talked to more than once at the MAC store? Why did Paige say "combine" like it had a d in it? What does she mean by "it has science behind it", like, how does Paige think other setting sprays, or for that matter other makeup works? Does Paige think about any of this at all? Does this not make sense because it came as part of an ad read Paige got in her many, many PR packages we've seen her get from MAC? We may never know! It's a mystery lost to the sands of time!
- There are chunks of glass in Paige's palette because it broke but they're just going to have to ~make it work~ because she's so tough and roll with the punches and quirky like that! I mean she literally made Tommy take her to Sephora in the vlog the day before and it's a totally brown palette which there's no way she couldn't find another of at a Sephora in Paris, but sure Paige.
- Paige while using the Benefit brow stuff: "I strayed away from this stuff for a second, don't know why, think it's because I get sent so many products" really had to add that in there.
- Oh thank god she finally added blush and it makes her look a million, trillion times better
- "Don't worry" says Paige as she applies stuff, "I'm going to leave links to everything I use for you guys". Oh you're going to try to make money off this by using undisclosed affiliate links? You don't say! It was super subtle, the clearly narrated ad copy and pop-ups every time you used a new product didn't give you away at all.
- I will say this for Paige, the girl does do a good cat eye.
- Okay this is insane, Paige uses a powder to cover up her roots? What is this, 1776 the musical? ROOT COVER UP POWDER???? I don't color my hair, is this a normal product???? I still say it's giving Founding Father. Powdering roots. Unbelievable. I hate everything about it.
- Paige shows us two dress options, the set she wore and a much more modest, much cuter dress that's essentially an a-line pink polo shirt. I really, really liked the first one on her, but she vetoes it for being too "casual". The second one that's a set, on the other hand, doesn't ook as coherent because it's a three piece and requires a cami underneath the jacket, it looks hot and itchy, and the shorts in that heavy material look ridiculous and don't fit her body well so it's giving diaper. She of course went with the second one.
- She's wearing it with her new Chanel loafers. They were a gift (she doesn't say from who) and she's obsessed with them, hashtag not a designer girl.
- Anyway Tommy loses and they go out to dinner, the end. On a 1-10 scale with ten being the most, I give it a 2 for actually being a well put together vlog, a 3 in terms of Paige being a privileged unhinged weirdo. She can do better on all fronts.

2023.06.06 01:50 JediJones77 My Full The Flash Review: Cleverly Gets Us Up to Speed on Flash's Backstory but is More Sugar Rush than Satisfying Journey
| This review is based on a free preview screening held in the U.S. on June 1st, 2023, two weeks before the movie's official opening date. Note that this screening did NOT include any credits or post-credits scenes, which I don't know if the final movie will have or not. The director's name came up after the final shot, and then the screen shut off. This review is spoiler-free, but does discuss plot points that are visible in the film's trailers. I may say things like a certain character had a lot of scenes or barely any scenes, so if that's too much information for you, don't read it. I DO NOT spoil the appearance of any character not seen in the trailers. My review: 7 out of 10 or 3.5 stars out of 5 or B+ The Flash arrives in cinemas not with the urgency of a speeding bullet, but as one of the most long-awaited superhero origin movies in history. The character's comic book debut dates back to 1939, making him one of the founding fathers of the superhero genre. He's carried more than one TV series, from 1990 to the present day. He made his film debut played by Ezra Miller in a brief civilian-garbed cameo in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, then in costume in 2017's Justice League. Now, after decades of stop-and-go development with too many director changes to count, Ezra's version of The Flash finally gets his name top-billed (if just barely) on the marquee in his own movie. The Flash's director is Andy Muschietti, joining his second big studio franchise after his 2017 and 2019 two-part adaptation of Stephen King's It. The advance buzz for The Flash has broken the tradition of every new DC Comics movie being sold as "the best superhero movie since Dark Knight," by instead telling us that The Flash is "one of the best superhero movies ever made." That's a high bar to ask any superhero movie to live up to, and The Flash, as you might have predicted, doesn't live up to that billing. It can more realistically be described as the best DC Comics movie since 2018's Aquaman that takes place in the primary DC cinematic universe. The basic bare minimum that any superhero origin story has to do is to explain what the character's powers are, tell us how the character got them, and convince us that the character and his powers are interesting. The Flash succeeds at meeting that more realistic bar. This movie is a perfectly adequate introduction to this culturally significant comic book character for the world at large. Where the movie loses its focus and interest is with its effort to send Flash through a travelogue that traverses the multiverse in search of other super-powered characters for him to pal around with. This movie was faced with a difficult challenge in telling Flash's origin, in that the character had already been introduced in the DC film series, with nary a word spoken about how he got his powers. The Flash's screenplay is ingenious in the way it tells his origin story without relying on the old cliche of the flashback sequence. It's no secret from the trailers that Flash employs his time travel powers in the movie, and ends up meeting a younger version of himself. Like most modern movies that deal with time travel, this one indulges in making Back to the Future references, some of which will be very funny the more you know about Back to the Future. The plot deals with the same absurd and fascinating situation explored in Back to the Future II, where two versions of the same character exist in the same place at the same time. This gives Flash another character with less knowledge than himself, who he has a good reason to explain things to, much like Doc Brown explains things to Marty in Back to the Future. This device allows the audience to learn everything we need to know about the Flash's origins and powers in an organic way that feels active, natural and spontaneous. Audiences who have little prior knowledge of The Flash will likely be surprised at a lot of the things he can do, but they'll also understand why he can do them with ease thanks to the movie's clever storytelling. Chemistry in movies is an elusive concept to define. Sometimes two actors who weren't even on set at the same time can have their dialogue edited together later and still appear to have "chemistry." This can be seen in Ralph Macchio's and Pat Morita's screen tests for the Karate Kid, which were shot separately but edited together by the director and posted on YouTube. That dynamic is certainly on display with Ezra Miller's performance(s) in The Flash. The chemistry between the two Flashes is as vibrant and electric as the special effects seen when Flash runs at full speed. Ezra deftly plays the two versions of the Flash in subtly different ways, which helps draw human comedy out of the old, reliable "odd couple" concept. The movie is nothing if not full of in-jokes, and at one point there even seems to be one made at Ezra's expense, based on the actor's recent court trial. I'm not sure what the timing was of when that scene was filmed, and whether it's art imitating life or the other way around. The scenes with the two Flashes seem to be very accessible to the general audience, but this in-joke is one sign of how the movie is often geared towards rewarding the most ardent fans and followers with "Easter egg" moments. While Flash is ostensibly being graced with his first solo starring movie role here, that didn't stop the studio from deciding that not one, but two Batmen will appear with him in it, Michael Keaton's and Ben Affleck's. And a female version of Superman. And a Superman villain who's crossing over from another movie. And maybe some other surprise guest appearances. It's hard to explain why Warner Brothers felt the need to take this approach with Flash, when the recent film debuts for Wonder Woman and Aquaman were so successful without using any major crossover gimmicks. Perhaps the greatest casualty of this heavy focus on other superheroes is Flash's love interest, Iris West, played by the charmingly baby-faced Kiersey Clemons. She has great chemistry with Ezra herself, but she barely appears in the movie. This is a character who is likely to be a lot more important to Flash's future than these other superheroes, but she barely gets an introduction here. As we've seen all too often in this genre, crossovers with other superheroes always spell doom for the lead character's civilian supporting cast. The other problem with this approach is that these guest stars and cameos never come off as more than the aforementioned gimmicks. The guest stars deliver their famous catchphrases, show off their well-known costumes, powers and gear, and offer a little bit of obligatory dialogue to explain what they've been doing since we last saw them. But they don't get any real character development or satisfying beginnings, middles and ends to their stories. Several newer Batman movies have shown us that they can go a lot deeper psychologically than the original Michael Keaton Batman movies did. But no added depth has been given to Keaton's version of Batman here. The filmmakers seem content to rely on a few nostalgic references. Keaton has become a more interesting actor in recent years too, but he isn't given any new angle on the character to explore in this performance. Even his aging is barely acknowledged. Keaton has certainly aged well, still fits the suit perfectly, and can pull off his action scenes convincingly. But this movie doesn't give him much to do beyond the action, short of a few cliched speeches about his parents' deaths with the requisite violins playing on the soundtrack. All this movie really does for Keaton's Batman is whet our appetite to see his character explored in more depth in a potential future Batman sequel. I'm sure Keaton has the potential to do much more with the character than the material allowed him to here. Other, more modern DC characters and actors also show up, to varying degrees of effectiveness. One of those is Ben Affleck's Batman, who, in a briefer appearance than Keaton's, manages to deliver more meaningful and memorable dialogue in this movie than his 1989 predecessor does. The big action scene with Affleck's Batman and the Flash isn't disappointing either. It more than adequately fulfills the promise of a DC cinematic universe centered around the Justice League that director Zack Snyder, the former top architect of DC's film universe, made to us in his movies several years ago. This fast, elaborate, exciting and very expensive-looking sequence set in a bustling cityscape exists as an almost separate entity from the rest of the movie, much like the classic James Bond prologues, and it almost steals the show from the rest of the movie, much like the classic Indiana Jones prologues. It must be said, however, that almost all of the Batman action in this movie loses some of the character's mystique by taking place more or less in broad daylight, rather than during the Dark Knight's signature territory of the night. If crossing over with the Batman bible wasn't enough, The Flash is just as eager to dip its toes into Superman's world. But, this time, it's without any real appearance by the big blue boy himself. Instead, the first movie version in almost 30 years of Superman's famous cousin, Supergirl, takes center stage. This version of Supergirl abandons the traditional blonde hair and red skirt that she's worn since her first comic book appearance in 1959 for short, dark hair and the same full-length tights that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel sported. She's played by Sasha Calle, an actress of Colombian descent. Supergirl continues the increasingly tiresome tradition of new DC characters being introduced in movies with a "to be determined" note attached to their origin story. She seems to be in the middle of her story when she enters in the middle of this movie to help the other heroes battle Michael Shannon's General Zod, reprising his role from 2013's Man of Steel. Yes, Zod died in that movie, but time travel, multiverse, Back to the Future, etc., etc. Sasha's performance is lacking a certain warmth or charm. Supergirl acts less like a middle American-bred human being, and more like one of the cold Kryptonians that accompany General Zod and speak with vague foreign accents. Whatever character development she has is handled in an extremely abbreviated and perfunctory way, much like what Keaton's Batman suffers in this movie. As for General Zod, I'm frankly surprised to learn they called back Michael Shannon to film new scenes. Everything here looks like it could've been pieced together from old Man of Steel footage and some CGI. Absolutely nothing new is explored with his character. He's nothing more than a prop in someone else's story, which leaves this movie feeling deprived in the villain department. The Flash eventually finds its own way to make a compelling point about good and evil, but it doesn't give us the kind of strong, new villain character that most of the major DC origin movies have. Andy Muschietti's direction, particularly in terms of his visual style, isn't always as polished as you would expect from a big-budget special effects movie. If you didn't already know he was coming fresh from independent and lower-budget films that often make use of a surrealist style, you might be able to deduce it from watching The Flash. Half the time, the special effects here are not trying to create a convincing, lifelike world, the way movies like Avatar do. They often seem more expressionistic and, yes, surreal. The movie has tried to find its own way of portraying time travel and the multiverse that hasn't been done before. But I wasn't really sold on this being a good way to do it. And the battle scenes that this movie imports from Man of Steel made me feel more like I was playing a video game than like I was watching Man of Steel again. To be fair, the studio has been saying that the advance version I saw was not the final cut, although it's a mere two weeks prior to the official release date. There may be a fine line between surrealism and unfinished special effects. All I can say is that what the special effects lack in polish, they seem to be trying to make up for with style, but not in as consistently effective a way as I would have liked to have seen. What holds the movie back the most from being as good as Dark Knight, or from being one of the best superhero movies ever, is the too often facile nature of Hollywood wunderkind Christina Hodson's screenplay. Major characters like Keaton's Batman, Calle's Supergirl and Shannon's Zod are dealt with in a very simplified and superficial manner. The Flash himself is given great texture through Ezra's skillful and inspired acting, but even some of his character's big moments seem to come out of nowhere, without the story having laid the necessary groundwork and connective tissue to support them. The overwhelming feeling generated by The Flash is that the movie is extremely eager to jump from "money shot" to "classic one-liner" to "heartfelt dialogue" without providing the necessary investment in proper storytelling to earn all of those moments. I can't help but get the feeling from the reported last-minute editing the movie is going through that the filmmakers are struggling to figure out why the movie isn't paying off quite as strongly with audiences as they had hoped. All of the big moments that audiences are supposed to love are there, after all, aren't they? But a movie can't just aim for non-stop entertainment. It can't be all payoff and no setup. A proper story needs to pace itself, to take the time to develop, breathe and grow. A fulfilling meal can't be just a series of sugar highs. It also has to have some fundamental nutritional value. The Flash races from one dazzling excitement to another at the speed of light, but it ends up leaving the viewer almost as starved for calories as they were when the movie started. https://preview.redd.it/y6042dfbea4b1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=8cf9d20ec278d22fb7c8aac118b00fb9efb490ff submitted by JediJones77 to DC_Cinematic [link] [comments] |

The Flash races from one dazzling excitement to another at the speed of light, but it ends up leaving the viewer almost as starved for calories as they were when the movie started. https://preview.redd.it/i7s8ki9fda4b1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=9adf9ef308c32459a75c907dcbff49460765f82b submitted by JediJones77 to SnyderCut [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 00:36 Lost_Judgment2302 31 [M4F] (So)California - I'm living my best polyamorous life right now, and I'm just trying to invite other people into that.
Where to start? A little about me:
I'm 6'2", 220ish, growing out my light brown hair, green eyes, light beard, tatted. Very hygienic and often smelling great, confident but not too cocky, often trying to make those around me smile and laugh. Passions for playing and writing music, cooking meals for those I love, and animals, all the animals.
I know carpentry, welding, sleight of hand, landscaping and gardening, massage therapy, how to survive in the wild with only a backpacks worth of things. I have many hobbies and often am trying to learn new things. Currently learning how to crochet, but I also paint, sketch, pottery, and diy. I love gaming, and that includes video games but also my board game collection and card games, traditional, trading, and drinking.
Polyamorous for two years now. I actually met a partner on Reddit after I posted an ad like this and she responded with a lengthy and well thought out response(please take note). I met my other partner 8 months ago on feeld and quickly she became close to the two of us. Now we're all practically inseparable, although the girls do not date each other(yet, I always say), they prefer to date just me and share their time.
I'm home during the day by myself mostly while the girls are each at work or school. But in the evenings and on the weekends we're all usually curled up on the couch together or going out and getting into shenanigans. Big fans of shopping runs, especially for things none of us need, going to the beach, hitting a local bar and playing pool, but more often than not you'll catch us inside, just enjoying each other's company. I can confidently say those two are the best of friends, and I'm just trying to share this experience with others.
Now, I want to be clear, none of this is about looking for sex or anything of that nature. But all of us identify as polyamorous, both of them identify as bisexual(demisexual), and I'm not opposed to things taking a natural turn.
I broke my foot recently so I don't really drive anymore, but I can always host. If you've made it all the way down to the end I'm excited to meet you. Send me a chat and let's see if we're close enough to meet up. Sending a face pic goes a long way.

2023.06.06 00:09 sugar-mgmt The best poem by bukowski
Okay I have to say now that this is a chapter of a book im writing, not actually bukowski, but the style is similar and I wanted to know what people who like him would think of the writing. Here it goes, if you got a few minutes to read it
I woke up that morning when the sun had heated up my room to a light boil. There had been a pool of sweat that was forming on my white cotton sheets. It was still June in Exeter and in those days the night is too cold so, naturally one puts on too many blankets and in the morning one wakes up to the smell of sweet fresh sweat. The pandemic mornings had quickly become monotonous. Sun, sweat, granola, a dusty carpet, a seagull on one window and a neighbour whose face I never saw on the other side of the house, orange juice, sitting on an armchair to read Bukowski with the backlight of the morning sun, moving to the sofa when the light became too hot, new albums by new and old singers and their creative rushes from being at home, skip, skip, skip, a run to the shop before the pasta, eggs, and soap were plundered. Repeat, repeat, repeat. The wine from last evening greeted me with a headache and a dry throat, which I welcomed with open arms. My little kick and a little spice out of the ordinary.
To break the cycle, I skipped the granola. I wasn’t hungry that morning. I laid in bed while the sun heated up my room. I stretched and stretched and stretched. I grabbed my knees and pulled them to my chest and stretched. I grabbed my wrist and pulled and pulled and pulled on my arm. Grab the next one. Repeat. I felt a pimple and if I hadn’t been so bored I wouldn’t have thought twice about it but this was perhaps the first pimple I had ever grown on my arm. Between my wrist and my elbow, but half an inch closer to the wrist I found it with its white head and when I came out of the shower it had grown its white head twice its size over its pink bottom. I popped it and got rid of almost all of its white head and then my phone rang.
“Are you still in Exeter?” asked Joseph.
“I’ll probably be here all summer” I told him.
“I’ll pick you up in an hour if you’re free. We can go to the imperial for a pint?”
“I’ll get dressed”.
We drank two beers and shared a pizza. He said he was going to meet with some girls for more drinks and I said I couldn't come.
"I'll see if I join you later" I said.
We got in his car. It had been parked in the sun so when I got back home my back was Moist with sweat so i took it off.
I sat on the bed and scratched my pimple and I scratched it until it bled a little. I grabbed my guitar and played the blues. One trial and when I finished I scratched the pimple. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I left the guitar and slept a little. When I awoke it was dark already. I must have slept all afternoon because it was already ten and I was tired but the phone rang and woke me up. I let it ring and rolled in bed onto my arm but it hurt and that put me on my feet. By now the pimple reached from my wrist to the middle of the arm It was a circle about an inch wide, hard as a lemon and then it became large and soft like a grape. The size of my arm had also grown as it began to swell. when I was looking at it the phone rang again.
“Are you coming over” Joseph asked.
“I don’t think so. I got this thing on my arm, I may go get it checked” I said.
I grabbed a pair of trousers from the floor, put on a shirt and grabbed a jacket on the way to the door. I walked to the nearest hospital. I thought it was a short walk away but it felt like an eternity. My pain turned into agony. One step left and on the right one I would feel a pulse on the pimple that shocked me along the length of my arm and reached all the way to my shoulder. Every five minutes the pain got stronger and by the time I made it to the hospital I felt it pulsating to the rhythm of my heartbeats.
“Good evening, Is your emergency related to COVID?” asked the lady at the desk.
“No. I got this thing on my arm since a couple hours ago, it keeps growing in size every couple hours I thought I’d have it checked” I replied.
“Have you had any cough recently?” she asked.
“No”.
“Any fever?”
“No”.
“Have you had any difficulty breathing in the last ten days?” she asked.
“LADY, LOOK AT THE SIZE OF MY ARM. I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS”
“Have a seat and we’ll call you”.
I waited for one hour, read every magazine, walked along the waiting room, thought about god, read every magazine again.
“EMMA WEBSTER?” shouted a doctor as she walked into the living room.
The ancient Egyptians were only expected to live up to the age of 19. Had I been born then I would have been well past my due date. The Greeks only lived to 30. There were a few exceptions, but, again, I thought that if I had been born then this would have been my time. A pimple. What a way to go.
“GEORGE WILLIAMS?” shouted the doctor and if that boy hadn’t been so quick at getting up I was ready to get up and steal his place.
I went to the gym. I ate my greens, at least once a week. I looked both ways when I crossed the road and brushed my teeth every night. Two hurricanes, a hundred earthquakes, three car crashes. They had barely given me a dent. I slept my ten hours a night. A good and a healthy life, by Greek, Egyptian, and British standards. Defeated at least. All defeated by a pimple. People would talk about me, how I wrote and how well I painted and what a shame it was that I died waiting in the emergency room. And some others would talk about how I didn’t paint so good and what a shame that I hadn’t been Egyptian. I looked up and thought about god again. I prayed.
“If its my time, then its my time, lord, but don’t let them know that it was a pimple that did it. Hemingway wouldn’t respect me” I prayed.
“Henri Chinaski?” shouted a doctor from the door and I ran to her and she took me to the next room.
“What can we help you with tonight?” she asked.
“I got this boil on my arm. I don’t know what it is but it keeps growing and growing”
“It looks an awful lot like a spider bite. Have you been outdoors lately?”
“Only at the beach”.
“Good thing you came now” she said. “If you had waited a couple of hours longer you’d have to stay over on the IV. Youre lucky I’ll just have to drain it and you can just go home”.
She looked around her tools and grabbed one.
“I’m gonna need you to take your top off. Only one arm if you want” she said.
I took off one arm and put my arm on her table and had to sit bent so she could grab the bottom of my arm. She pinched it with something that I felt go deep inside my arm and then she started squeezing my tender arm while I made a groan.
“How does this feel?” she asked.
“I quite like it” I said and she chuckled and squeezed me more.
She took some 15 minutes draining it and brought me a box of penicillin to take every four hours for the next three days.
“Ive gotten rid of the pus and it shouldn’t get infected. It is still very swollen and it will keep looking like a balloon while its full of blood. You may have to keep draining it some three times a day and come back if you have any symptoms of a fever. You’ll also need a warm towel on it before you drain it so its easier. Oh, and keep the arm upright or it will keep hurting” she said.
When I was back home I boiled the kettle and sat on the sofa. I opened a packet of biscuits as I waited for the water to boil for my towel. I poured the water on a rag I used for painting and wrapped it around my arm. I then unraveled the gaze the doctor had put on me and squeezed that fucker down to the size of a bottlecap.
Two hurricanes, a hundred earthquakes, three car crashes, and a boil.

2023.06.06 00:07 Normal-Appearance982 A Look at Buffys' Ratings
I thought it would be interesting to have a look at the ratings for each season as well as the most viewed episodes. I have taken my data from
here which cites the Nielson ratings, so I am assuming the data is correct. Below is the average rating (in millions) of viewers per season, ranked from most to least viewed.
Season | Average Rating |
3 | 6.1 |
2 | 5.74 |
6 | 5.34 |
4 | 5.26 |
5 | 5.24 |
7 | 4.31 |
1 | 3.54 |
- No surprises that season 1 has the lowest viewership by far given that it is a new show and hasn't developed the viewer base yet.
- The show quickly picked up a lot of viewers in Season 2, and by Season 3 they had the most people watching during the shows run.
- Viewership was very consistent during seasons 4-6 and the show never suffered a noticeable decline in viewership until Season 7.
I think one of the remarkable things about
Buffy was it's consistent viewership. From it's peak in Season 3 it had lost
less than 30% of total viewership by the end of Season 7. In contrast,
The Walking Dead averaged 14.38m viewers at it's peak in Season 5, and by it's final season (11) it averaged just 1.69m - a drop of
over 88%. By Season 7 I think it's clear that the show had run it's course and I'm personally glad that it did not overstay it's welcome.
I then had a look at the ratings per episode and below I have detailed the top 15 most viewed episodes in the shows run.
Season | Episode | Title | Date Aired | Viewers (m) | Written By | Directed By |
2 | 14 | Innocence | January 20 1998 | 7.94 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
6 | 1 | Bargaining Part 1 | October 2 2001 | 7.65 | Marti Noxon | David Grossman |
2 | 13 | Surprise | January 19 1992 | 7.59 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
2 | 15 | Phases | January 27 1998 | 7.31 | Rob Des Hotel/Dean Batali | Bruce Seth Green |
3 | 1 | Anne | September 29 1998 | 7.06 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
3 | 12 | Helpless | January 19 1999 | 7.00 | David Fury | James A Contner |
3 | 10 | Amends | December 15 1999 | 6.85 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
4 | 1 | The Freshman | October 5 1999 | 6.79 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
2 | 16 | Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered | February 10 1998 | 6.77 | Marti Noxon | James A Contner |
3 | 22 | Graduation Day Part 2 | July 13 1999 | 6.53 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
3 | 5 | Homecoming | November 3 1998 | 6.53 | David Greenwalt | David Greenwalt |
4 | 6 | Wild At Heart | November 9 1999 | 6.51 | Marti Noxon | David Grossman |
3 | 16 | Who Are You? | February 23 1999 | 6.5 | Joss Whedon | Joss Whedon |
2 | 12 | Bad Eggs | January 12 1998 | 6.48 | Marti Noxon | David Greenwalt |
3 | 7 | Revelations | November 17 1998 | 6.46 | Doug Petrie | James A Contner |
- Seasons 2 and 3 dominate the list with a couple of exceptions from Season 4 and Season 6's premiere.
- The storyline that drew the most viewers by far is Angel losing his soul. Surprise and Innocence were advertised as a two-parter which aired on consecutive nights, coinciding with Buffy moving from a Monday to a Tuesday night.
- Buffy's resurrection in Season 6 drew a staggeringly high number of viewers considering the average viewership post Season 3. However whilst 7.65m tuned in for the first part of the two-parter, over 2 million did not tune in for the conclusion which garnered only 5.58 million viewers.
- It is notable how often Joss Whedon appears on this list given that he has writing/directing credits on just 27 of the 144 total episodes. In Seasons 5-7 he would have credits on only 6 episodes including The Body, The Gift, Once More, with Feeling and Chosen.
- Season 2 Episode 15-16 both make the top 10 list, which appears to be due to the massive popularity of the Angel/Angelus storyline. Interestingly the episode prior to Surprise/Innocence - Bad Eggs - also makes the list. Perhaps the TV ads were already hyping the Angel/Angelus storyling in advance of this episode airing, but this is just speculation on my part.
- I have no explanation as to why Wild At Heart is on there.
Please add your own thoughts and comments below, and let me know if I have made any errors as I compiled the data quite quickly.

2023.06.06 00:00 AnAussieTrainer My imagined ending for BTSV. Calling my shot.
I had a few minutes, and have been thinking over and over how I expect an ending of BTSV to go. Here’s my script-based version of what I’m betting on, assuming a happy ending route.
Not looking for feedback necessarily, as I’m not exactly a screenwriter (thank goodness), but this is what was swirling around in my head considering that, I believe, 1610 Miles is the one that, in canon, ended up on Earth 8 marrying Gwen Stacey. And I try to insert callback references that I think would be likely.
More interested to see if people think something along these lines is relatively likely to happen 🤓. Probably more fan-fiction than anything else.
Calling my shot now to see if this is anywhere close to BTSV next year!
[Screen pans to the Morales’ apartment complex, to Miles’ old bedroom. And then scans quickly up to an identically placed bedroom at the top floor].
ADULT MILES: [in seated position] And that’s how we saved the multiverse!
[Miles closes Spider-Man comic book that he was reading from. He gets up and leans over something, smiling softly. He is wearing his Spider-Man outfit, sans mask.]
MILES: [Sighs, still smiling softly]. What a day.
[Panel cuts to someone walking through the house to the bedroom. Panels scan over several items shown on the walls as they walk by, showing some major events of Miles’ life. You see a couple Princeton degrees on the wall, next to an unidentified degree, and a record on the wall. There is a Nobel Prize award for quantum particle/dimensional research for a team including Miles. Screen pans to a wedding photo of Miles and Gwen, with Rio and Jefferson, George Stacey, and a bunch of the Spider- People in the background (Peter B. as best man).
[Screen pans back to MILES, focusing in behind him. ADULT GWEN comes into screen behind Miles, resting on the door frame, arms crossed. She is wearing her Spider-Woman outfit, also sans mask.]
GWEN: [Teasingly] Charlotte fell asleep to the spider-verse story
again, didn’t she?
MILES: [Nods.] Hey, it’s a great story though!
GWEN: [Still teasingly] I know. I was there, remember? The fate of the multiverse and everything. You ready to get going?
MILES: [Half turns around] In a minute! I just texted the padres, they’ll be up soon to babysit.
[Gwen smiles and turns to leave. Miles shoots a web at her, Andrew Garfield style, and twirls her into his arms.]
GWEN: Oh! [Laughs Shortly] Hello!
MILES: [Gestures.] How’d we get so lucky?
[Panel opens to show a baby sleeping in a crib (roughly Mayday’s age), clutching the knitted Spider-Man mask that Peter B.’s Mayday had.]
GWEN: [Smiles and pokes his chest.] Oh, probably because I’m awesome. [Miles chuckles, nodding his head.]
Gwen puts her hand on his cheek] And so are you, Miles. Luck had nothing to do with it. Don’t ever forget that. [They kiss briefly.]
[They are interrupted by the sound of sirens going by. You hear a staticky announcement over their police scanner. “10-30 in Progress, Shocker and Doc Ock involved, all units please respond.”]
[Camera pans to Gwen, with her mask on.]
GWEN: Ready?
[Camera pans to Miles, now with his mask on.]
MILES: Always.
[Miles clicks a button on his web shooter that starts beeping. The two swing out of the apartment.]
MILES: Let’s run this back one final time. For real this time. My name is Miles Morales. For the last 15 years, I’ve been this Earth’s one, and only, Spider-Man.
I got bitten by a radioactive spider. Made some lifelong friends. Found a mentor. Lost my Uncle Aaron. Saved my dad. Oh, and saved New York. Again, and again, and again. Connected the multiverses together. And married my best friend.
GWEN: [Swings ahead of Miles] Who, since, has been the one, and only, Spider-Woman, thank you.
MILES: Oh, and we also saved the entire multiverse together. Ask Miguel. He
really doesn’t like to talk about that.
Who am I? I’m Spider-Man. But I’m not the only one. Not by a long shot. And with our family, and friends, alongside us, no matter how many hits we take, we will
always find a way to come back.
[Dimensional portal opens up, and PETER B. swings in, with TEENAGER MAYDAY in superhero costume joining him. NOIR, HAM, PAVITR, HOBIE, and PENI follow.]
MILES: Just remember, anyone can wear the mask. YOU, can wear the mask. But no matter what: what you do with your story, your life? Well, that’s up to you. Nobody else decides that for you. If you didn’t know that before, I hope you know that now.
[The Spider-group swings across buildings into the sunset]

2023.06.05 23:59 katintheskywdiamonds What’s your favourite post-op food?
Hey all ✨
So I’m 11 months post and I was wondering what everyone else’s favourite post-op foods are?
For me… I love an omelette. I’m lucky and my sleeve likes eggs, and I literally have an omelette every day for lunch. I’ll either have some veggies in it with some tuna or salmon; or for an indulgent omelette I’ll get two slices of ham or roast chicken and two slices of light cheese and kinda make a fake sandwich out of it by folding the omelette over into a sammie shape. The residual heat makes the light cheese melty and delicious. Throw on some chopped chives and spring onions and it’s amazing.

2023.06.05 23:00 GaelDeCastro Today is Pretzel Crust’s last day. I made a crew pizza in honor of it
Yeah I took a bite to show the inner layer of the stuffed crust.
Light sauce marinara with bbq sauce. Thin layer of cheese. Fanceroni and mushrooms and then a Thicker of cheese. Green pepper, sausage, bacon and ham.
I put the butter garlic sauce on the crust and then I put a herb mix on the crust before putting in the oven.

2023.06.05 22:01 SeneInSPAAACE New meal recipe/ingredient + lack-of-progress.
Did a variation of the
super veggie. ! used about 180g of broccoli, some shiitake mushrooms, 100g dry weight of beluga lentils, a single mild chili, garlic paste, ginger paste, lime juice, 2ts of chocolate, a single carrot, cumin, ACV, left out cauliflower and hemp seeds.
Taste is okay, requires a bit more fine-tuning, but definitely edible. However, it's down-right SURPRISINGLY filling. I ate about half, which comes out to something like 300 calories, and I feel remarkably full.
If I eat nothing more today, I should be roughly at 1300 kcal for the day.
Another pretty neat meal was a large DIY tuna salad - random greens + fresh cucumber + 50g of tuna + some pineapple pieces. A pretty large bowl, very delicious, will do again. My weight has been hovering at around the same point since my long weekend vacation at the end of last month.
I've also skipped days of food journaling and not even weighed myself every day, so that's not ideal. I'm also adjusting some of the supplements I take, so that may have an effect - protein and creatine can cause temporary weight gain as I understand it. Also, my exercise schedule has been irregular.
I once again confirmed that not going to bed in time leads to eating more. I've technically known that for years.
It is very demoralizing. I want - I need my weight to go down.

2023.06.05 21:32 Delilah_Evers my boyfriend has some kind of stomach problem and nothing helps :(
bf is 6ft1, male, 190lbs. currently on 60mg of omeprazole a day (two 30mg doses daily) and 40mg of pepcid a night. occasionally acetaminophen for headaches and body aches.
family history is largely unknown (no contact with his dads side; a lot of his moms side have passed away) but his mom mentioned she also has stomach issues of some kind and his youngest brother has had similar issues to hers. other than that the only known family history is heart failure and cancer. cancer took both grandparents and most of his male family have died of heart attacks or heart failure.
only other relevant history is he drank during the time of symptom development and he currently smokes marijuana, and he smoked cigarettes when he was 12-15. biopsies taken during endoscopy were benign and ulcers were observed in the esophagus. he did not smoke either marijuana or cigarettes at the time of developing symptoms and not smoking has no effect on symptoms, aside from pain management aspects of marijuana. the only blood lab ran has been H. Pylori and it was negative
hes also a very picky eater, to the point where he doesnt have any "okay" foods. the only options are his favorite foods, if a food is not prepared to his standard he cant eat it. he doesnt like very many vegetables (the only vegetables i can confidently he likes are mashed potatoes, corn, green beans and raw broccoli) but he likes a lot of fruit. citrus, bananas, berries are typically what we have on hand. other than that he only really eats meat and occasionally bread.
he had an ultrasound before his endoscopy and the ultrasound tech kept talking about how he had the most textbook perfect organs hed ever seen. we never heard the results from imaging or got a follow up.
anyways, symptoms as following:
every morning he wakes up, groans, says his stomach hurts, and within 20 minutes of waking up, has to shit. he will spend a consecutive hour in the bathroom and makes multiple trips after. its often diarrhea but hes complained of soft stool regardless. saturday he reported having diarrhea that was yellow in color.
often he also pukes in the mornings. orange/yellow bile if theres actual puke but if not then he will just cough until he pukes up phlegm. it does not matter what he has eaten or how much. he will go multiple days without eating and will not eat after 6pm and he will still spend an hour + in the bathroom and wake up in pain
at the time of symptom development he, reportedly, puked blood
sulphur burps but sour candies specifically. i located egg whites in the ingredients of the candy that caused him to complain about the sulfur burps but it was less than 2% and at this point i dont know whats causation or correlation
the only time he has not had any symptoms since initial symptom development was late december 2022/early january 2023 when temps got as low as -20°F acrossed the midwest, but during that blizzard from hell we were sleeping in a family members basement so maybe that had something to do with it as well?
im at a loss. nothing helps. the only lab thats been ran is the H. Pylori test and the biopsies. they took 3 biopsies from the esophagus, stomach and duodenum each and all were thankfully benign. it took 9 visits to 4 different clinics to even get the H. Pylori test, and they referred him to the gastro after that, but the current care plan the gastro has him on doesnt seem to be working and he doesnt return till august.
its affecting his ability to hold a job. hes quit one job, been fired from another due to this and he has already had to call out of his current job twice, and he only started 3 weeks ago, due to the intensity of his illness. he also finished highschool in an alternative schooling program due to his illness preventing him from going to school. he cant keep living like this and i dont believe he should have to live like this at all but i dont know what to do for him.
ETA: also, marijuana edibles dont work for him. i dont know if thats correlated at all but both times hes tried edibles they had no affect on him.

2023.06.05 20:45 Gilthwixt Let's talk about World Tour's Ending, Post-game content, and possible future (Spoilers)
I beat World Tour this morning and wanted to write a sort of review on how I felt about it as well as speculate on the future. If that's not really your bag feel free to skip straight passed it and leave your own thoughts in the comments, though I do have one neat easter egg I found after wandering around.
The Good
The basic concept of "Open World Street Fighter RPG" is so good on its own that even despite my later complaints it's still an enjoyable experience at its core. Exploring to look for secrets and being rewarded with money/geastat boosts before taking on the next boss encounter worked as a basic gameplay loop, even if the gear and skill tree decision making was somewhat shallow.
Everything involving your masters was great, from texting to in person dialogue to calling them in for assists. Seeing the enemy counter drop from "8 out of 8" to 0 as me and Cammy wombo combo'd the shit out of them was pretty satisfying. I think the main campaign would've been better off if there was more of this than what they actually gave us - the master missions were basically MMO style "go beat up
x amount of
y enemy" when it would've been cool to have them accompany you into those "dungeon"-like areas (SiRN HQ, the Steel Factory, Crow Rooftops etc.)
The Bad
Gameplay wise I had some frequent though minor complaints. Any challenges/missions that required the NPC to do a specific action so you could react in kind was pretty bad and shouldn't have made it through playtesting as is. I had one where I legit stood there for 40 seconds because I was supposed to tech throws and the NPC just walked back and forth not doing anything.
The aggressive mobs respawn way too fast. It was kind of annoying just trying to explore and look around but get attacked by wave after wave of 8+ mobs that were 15 levels lower than me and not worth the time. One of the later skills mitigates this issue somewhat but if you're heavily outnumbered and within ~10ish levels it doesn't seem to work.
The UX was questionable in a few areas. Not being able to restart/back out of part-time mini-games. Not being able to hide accessories despite being given that option for your other gear. Not being able to
unequip gear because you had something set to appear over it. Not being able to see what dye options existed for each gear piece, or whether a specific shirt could be worn as an under-layer or not.
Also, is there any specific reason you can't have two moves with the same motion-input on classic controls, even if they use different buttons? This is a weird limitation to have - you can't completely remake a classic character's moveset nor can you do creative stuff like give yourself Hadoken and Spiral Arrow at the same time.
None of it really gamebreaking, just inconvenient.
The Ugly
I'd say the story started off decent enough and pretty much fell off a cliff somewhere in the middle. I'd have to go back and watch someone else's playthrough to double check but a lot of the plot just didn't make sense under scrutiny. Basically, Bosch's whole thing from the start was to rig the Nayshall tournament so he could suicide bomb JP on the winner's podium. This is already a horrible plan on paper, given that so much can (and does) go wrong. But more importantly, Bosch gets captured, infused with Psycho Power, and brainwashed to the point that he's losing his sense of self, and yet somehow he's completely capable of continuing the plot to bomb JP anyway. These two plot points feel wholly at odds.
Juri's involvement also doesn't make a whole lot of sense given that hating Shadaloo and Bison is her whole thing; regardless of how morally grey they paint her I don't see how she would side with JP, considering her history.
By far the worst writing is your own character. You somehow get duped into assembling a bomb for a terrorist organization, which okay, fair enough you're just some musclehead off the street that wants to get stronk, not exactly James Bond. But once you learn of this plot you decide the best course of action is to just...let it all rock and try to win the tournament so it's
you up there and not Bosch?? Li-fen rightly chews you out for how dumb this is. Not that it matters given that he's standing right next to you anyway as the runner-up. You'd think that since you know the champion's belt is a bomb you'd have a plan in mind to foil the explosion, but there you are, up on the winner's podium acting like this is all very normal. You more or less just stand there and watch as Bosch gets blown up because he's too dumb to throw the belt away immediately and instead tries to run it first, like he's Cam Newton or something.
JP kinda suffers here as it's his first big outing as the new villain, and yet we learned nothing about him as a character. It's like the writers wanted to give him this air of mystery and thought leaving his motivations and ambitions blank was the answer. The only thing we do learn is that he apparently thinks handing a bomb to a little girl so she'll get killed instead of him is the best practice for foiling an assassination attempt, which is either pointlessly cruel or actually brilliant, from a press coverage perspective ("See how ruthless and dangerous the resistance is? Grant me emergency power to stamp them out!") but that's never elaborated on. Maybe he just thinks blowing up kids is amusing, but if they were going to paint him as
that kind of evil, it's weird that you and him can just chill and play cards after all of this happens.
With how his win screen essentially shows that he
could kill anyone if he wanted to but such violence is beneath him, I thought they were going to paint him as morally ambiguous. It would've been better to give him a bigger part in the plot earlier on - have him unlock as a master a few chapters beforehand so you can get to know him ahead of time. It would give your character plausible deniability that you were his student before you knew he was a "bad guy" - still not convinced the modernization hating suicide bombers are the "good" guys either btw - rather than seeming like you immediately sought him out to be your master because blowing up your friend made you admire him or something.
In the end, what was the point of the whole story? You join a gym because you want to become strong and somehow get wrapped up in a terrorist plot to blow up the head of an NGO, ostensibly because you're trying to "rescue" your friend you barely know who turned out to be a suicide bomber, and when the poor plan goes poorly you beat up the NGO head when
you were the one who assembled the bomb and brought it here in the first place. Switching places with Yua aside, JP didn't really do anything - this whole mess is more or less the fault of you and the resistance, and it's not like the resistance or JP do much to really warrant you taking either side anyway. Actually I lied, JP also activated the bomb himself...why is it designed this way instead of being remotely detonated again?? And what does JP get from activating the bomb in the first place?? Yua watches her brother get blown up in front of her and somehow forgets by the next time you see her, choosing to believe Bosch is alive and okay out there somewhere. Childhood trauma leading to dissociative amnesia is a hell of a thing to put in a Street Fighter story.
JP sums up how I feel about the plot pretty succinctly: Post-Game & Future
Post-game will be hit or miss for a lot of people. You're either okay with grinding it out to beat the optional fights or you're not. Since you probably want all the extra costumes and bonus art anyway it's probably not that big a deal, though with how high leveled some of the optional fights get I imagine you could max out every master and still not be strong enough to beat them without cheesing the AI or spamming items.
The strongest fight I could find is this
Level 90 Sheng Long, which is a pretty fun easter egg. I'm not sure if beating all of the "Mighty Fighty" optional fights leads to any additional ones afterwards, though I'm assuming there'd be at least one level 99 fight somewhere.
Nayshall not having any masters during the day is notably conspicuous. The Ultimate Fighters Pass outlines two upcoming stages along with the four announced DLC characters. Presumably, that means two of the characters will show up in World Tour in these two stages and the other two will be in Nayshall during the day. I think any combination of guesses could make sense, but my money is on Rashid being in Nayshall during the day and A.K.I. getting her own stage; between Akuma or Ed getting the remaining 2nd stage vs being in Nayshall during the day is a 50/50 toss-up IMO. Maybe Akuma's
back to selling fruits again.
And that about wraps it up. Overall I think the mode is decent for what it's trying to be, and I'd be willing to play more if they expand with more content in the future, I just wish the writing wasn't so bad. Gameplay is an 8/10, but outside of the Masters interactions the writing is a 5/10 or worse - it's so conspicuous I might have to check the credits and see if the main scenario and masters writers were entirely separate teams.
