I've been on a relaxed diet since April 30th after gaining a few extra kilos on holiday. For context, 30F, 108.1 pounds (or 49kg), 5.05 feet, so I'm petite. I am not overweight but I did want to lose some weight. My ideal weight is 47 kilos, so that's where I am headed.
I've been counting calories and mostly trying out a 1400 diet as 1200 felt impossible and I am physically active. While it's been getting easier and I've kind of adapted, I also have days that feel very mentally challenging.
Say, today. I am doing a PhD and we had a symposium day. Lovely catering. Lots of wonderful mini cakes, club sandwiches, pakoras, fruits. I refuse to not eat on days like that because I am not overweight and I don't want to become that person who restricts themselves all the time - it really bugs me mentally. I do enjoy food and symposium days don't happen every day. So I do treat myself, just like everyone else; eat the cakes, enjoy the parokas. At the end of the day, I don't eat 5 mini cakes each day and all the rest of it, right?
And then I come home, log the calories and it amount to like 2200, so my app tells me that I'd need an extra month to lose that 'excess'.
Honestly, this is the bit that I fear might get me an eating disorder quite frankly. How much counting makes you focus on calories and counting! How much it makes you consider every mini cake an issue. But also, how, when you do log calories and see the 'quantitative' side of things, it simply does make you realize that you can't possibly enjoy food in a relaxed manner if you want to be losing weight!
Sometimes I wish I never even started counting in the first place and just kept things intuitive. This is how I'd always lose weight in the past; go on holiday, enjoy larger portions of food, then go back to my normal routine, hit the gym again, and voila - it does drop eventually, simply because I'm being more mindful about what I eat.
Sometimes I'm thinking, at the end of the day, if I stay active and have occasional days like today, that's totally okay. But is it? How do you stay mentally sane while still counting and enjoying the rare symposium days, or birthdays, or nights out, without choosing to NOT eat? I don't want to have to do that, it just feels extreme, it feels unhealthy, it feels detrimental to mental health.
What are your thoughts?

I (23M) feel like I'm stuck at a crossroad in my life. I live in the UK, I work from home in a job that I dont enjoy because of how repetitive and boring it is but pays well and I dont go out as much as I'd like. I'm quite introverted, don't really drink, go out to pubs/clubs etc. but throughout school I was always the person who most people liked but never liked enough to be full on friends with. I do have popular interests with sports though. I do have a good group of friends now though (all M).

Recently I(23m) been looking into self improvement, because I want a girlfriend. All advices I find online tells me to "focus on myself, work out, focus on passions, etc" I've been a gamer since I was 7-8, and kinda stuck with it until around middle of May this year with little other stuff to do besides partying after reaching adulthood. The gaming kinda stopped when i was first invited to a party by my cousin around mid-may. After that I was sort of dragged into my cousins social group, which is nice. This is the longest I've been offline in atleast 10years. I want to keep it that way, cause for me gaming has the last few years been equal to busy work, and not for fun. I've also been working out a little from time to time this year, not really knowing what to do at the gym, but Google is slowly teaching me, and when I don't go to the gym I try to do some simple workout at home. But I've noticed, when I'm not out, then I'm bored. I tried reading a book 'The great Gatsby' but I'm struggling even paying attention when reading, so I guess that's not for me. I work in a very easy dead end job in a private company, very little to do so I get lots of Phone time, but it pays as expected and there is no moving up.
Also before people tell me to join a club or social activity, I live in a small place where there are no activities to part-take in, those activities are simply for kids (as in organized groups for 6-12 year olds)

How do I focus on career when I don't know what I want to work as or with? How do I focus on hobbies if I have none?

Background: I have a perianal fistula and gut issues, fatigue that comes and goes and sometimes joint pain. No history or diagnosis regarding kidney issues. I had two minor surgeries under anesthesia done in the past months (abscess surgery and a surgery to get a draining seton placed). I felt fine after each surgery but my fatigue got a bit worse right after the second one. Got better after a week. I had a small intestine MRI done three weeks ago, had to drink and get injected with quite a lot of contrast agent. I had absolutely no worries about anything, everyone was nice, everything was pretty chill and I went home again. I had extreme stomach issues afterward but since I usually struggle with that and I was warned about it I (again) didn't worry much.
But then I noticed some worrying changes that didn't go away. My fatigue usually comes and goes but since the MRI it's constant and severe. "Can't watch a tv show or shower most days" severe. I've got pins and needles sensation in my fingers and arms I never had before. The pain in my fingers/hands I sometimes had is also constant now and also much more severe. Sometimes my finger tips go slightly numb now. I also have pain in my armpits but can't feel any hard or swollen lymph nodes. I can't do anything anymore, when I am not in pain, I am asleep or visiting a doctor. As far as my doctors can tell, my fistula isn't responsible for this and all of the tests for an IBD were negative. I got some regular blood work done and nothing could be found except some slightly heightened white blood cell count which is quite obviously caused by my draining and active fistula.
I can't reach the radiologist from my MRI and my doctors (general doctor, proctologist and internal specialist) are quite clueless and/or don't want to do any more tests because I'm not insured privately (I live in a country with public healthcare but patients without private insurance are treated much more poorly).
Could this be at all related to the MRI or does it sound more like a weird coincidence? I am not the healthiest person overall obviously, that's why I got the MRI. Can it somehow be proven in blood or urine that my body couldn't deal with the contrast agent if that's the case? And would there be a way to reverse it? And should I maybe be more careful with future MRIs? I will probably go to a neurologist next because of my previous and current issues and chances are high that I will have to get a brain MRI then.
My motto the past years was "I don't want to get better, I just don't want to get any worse" and this was such a major blow that I currently don't have much strength left anymore, physically and emotionally. Would appreciate any insight or advice!

Personally Iâve watched a ton of anime; thereâs not a single isekai released between 2000 â 2021 I have not watched at least a bit of; I am utterly obsessed with the genre and love it to utter death. I also generally like mecha anime; my favorite one of those was âGundum: Iron Blood Orphansâ.
Currently I am working just a humble retail job but I am headed out back to college this coming Fall to start on the pathway to becoming an Engineering Technician. I want to work with mechanical stuff personally since it seems the most interesting me on a personal level; plus, I feel like learning more about it could let me get into more complex craft projects at home, which really appeals to me.
Someday I want to work on a âstarship bridgeâ gaming rig I.e a setup where you convert a whole room into a âworkingâ bridge of a space ship complete with lights, mechanical prop bits; sliding doors, and custom fixtures to bring the whole cohesive experience together into something that makes you feel like youâre on the set of a science fiction movie.
I love the Fall; I am literally so happy to finally live in a place where leaves actually, you know, fall. Its such a radical concept from living in a place where essentially the trees are some shade of green all year round; with winter being barely cold enough down in the part of Texas I lived (South Texas) to be worth a damn to change any leaves to any color other than greenish-yellow. Is it weird to be this excited about dead plants? I think so, but I am rolling with it!

Personally Iâve watched a ton of anime; thereâs not a single isekai released between 2000 â 2021 I have not watched at least a bit of; I am utterly obsessed with the genre and love it to utter death. I also generally like mecha anime; my favorite one of those was âGundum: Iron Blood Orphansâ.
Currently I am working just a humble retail job but I am headed out back to college this coming Fall to start on the pathway to becoming an Engineering Technician. I want to work with mechanical stuff personally since it seems the most interesting me on a personal level; plus, I feel like learning more about it could let me get into more complex craft projects at home, which really appeals to me.
Someday I want to work on a âstarship bridgeâ gaming rig I.e a setup where you convert a whole room into a âworkingâ bridge of a space ship complete with lights, mechanical prop bits; sliding doors, and custom fixtures to bring the whole cohesive experience together into something that makes you feel like youâre on the set of a science fiction movie.
I love the Fall; I am literally so happy to finally live in a place where leaves actually, you know, fall. Its such a radical concept from living in a place where essentially the trees are some shade of green all year round; with winter being barely cold enough down in the part of Texas I lived (South Texas) to be worth a damn to change any leaves to any color other than greenish-yellow. Is it weird to be this excited about dead plants? I think so, but I am rolling with it!

I have a pretty insane breakup story that Iâve been trying to cope with lately. I was dating a guy who seemed perfect in the beginning. He bought me so much stuff without me asking, he is Brazilian and bought me a plane ticket and a vacation to Brazil with everything paid for so I can meet his family because he claimed I was his soulmate. He bought me concert tickets, nice dinners, etc. Wrote me love letters and made me feel like the most special woman in the world. He was my dream guy, it felt like I was living a fairytale. Then after 5 months some cracks started to show, he started being really cold at times (to make a long story short he has avoidant attachment issues caused from childhood). If I showed any emotion besides happiness or wanted to talk about any issues he would make me feel like shit about it, saying Iâm insane and complain to him too much, and disappear for a while. Even if it was him who did something wrong that hurt me in the first place. He also told me some things that were red flags like if I were fat or paralyzed he would leave me. He did a lot of things that made me uncomfortable but told me to âdeal with itâ and to remember that he bought me this trip so I should stop complaining. He also had an ex he called crazy and said he never loved or respected, he was only with her out of convenience. But she was crazy in love with him chasing him and stalking me the whole relationship, I just ignored it the best I could. When we were in Brazil he was telling me I was the love of his life, we would get married and move to Brazil together on the beach, etc. Then the day I was leaving back home he told me in the morning: all of the things I did for you and bought you, donât expect it ever again. When we get back home everything will be 50/50. He said he will only take me for dinners on my birthday. I basically said then why did you act like youâre someone youâre not for 6 months only to tell me this now? I told him if heâs stressed with money he doesnât have to do anything fancy but when heâs financially able to I want to be taken on dates and feel like Iâm special to him, I donât believe in completely 50/50 when people are dating me. Then he didnât talk to me, took me to the airport, dropped me off and told me that heâs breaking up with me because he doesnât know if he loves me anymore because we had a difference in opinion about this, that the sparkle he had for me is gone. I was obviously shocked and devastated, I cried the whole flight back by myself for 36 hours. When we both got back to my home country and he was apologizing wanting to work things out. Stupidly, I gave him another chance. Then he started being disrespectful again saying heâs not sure if he can say we have a future together, wonât commit, etc. So I ended it and then he started acting really pissed that I broke up with him. Then less than 24 hours after the breakup, he deletes all my Instagram comments, adds his ex back to Instagram, now sheâs commenting on his photos and I guess theyâre back together. All of this happened in the span of less than a month. I feel like I was hit by a truck, how can someone go from being a dream guy you trust with all your heart and think you will marry to a complete nightmare so quickly? Thank god that I saw my worth and got out of it fast. Definitely hasnât been easy on me emotionally though.

I've got private insurance with Mawista. I think it's student plus. I visited a dentist recently and i came out without paying a penny. I was jolly happy for a week and then I recieve a letter with a 100 euro bill. (Yes I'm a noob when it comes with insurance, etc and all this bureaucracy stuff here) This was because the dentist did a full head xray.
Since mine is private insurance, i have to make the payment first and then ask for reimbursement.
So I went to the mawista platform and i uploaded my documents. And i eagerly waited for a response from their end. I waited and waited. And it was just crickets. No response! So i gave up.
I honestly find it time draining to follow up on all these things. I'd rather just invest my time in upskilling or learning German.
But today disaster struck again, i was flossing and my teeth broke. Like literally! (The filling chipped off)
So now I'm pondering whether to fly back to my home country and get my teeth fixed. Or maybe just maybe go to the dentist again and claim insurance later.
The problem is I don't know how much it would cost to get a filling done. And if there are more complications, whether it would cost me my two months rent.
It really sucks to have a private insurance that only covers 500 euros of your dental costs. And even if you claim for something, they don't respond.
Should I send them an email, call them?
The last time I called them, the German dude on the other end simply asked me to check the contract and cut the call. I was like... Okay!
Anyways enough rambling. What do you guys think of my situation? Should I fly back and return and get my whole teeth fixed for like 1000 euros (including flight tickets). Or should I spend that money here?

I am 29 and only have a salary of about 120K. I currently have about 2K in CC debt. I pay 750$/mo for my car + ins (ins is high here). I live in MA and plan on moving from the North Shore to the South Shore if that is relevant at all. Currently I contribute 10% to my 401K with a 10% match and a 10% pension on the companies end. I have about 30K in student loan debt left. I bring home around 6K/mo after taxes and contributions to healthcare/retirement/etc.
I am not married yet but plan to be in the next year or two. I will be moving in with my sister and not having to pay rent or anything post selling the house for as long as I want. I plan to stay there for about a year saving money and then purchase a new home. I am looking for advice on how I should proceed / what I can reasonably be looking to afford.

First time posting here and I am a bit timid to post but I figure why not. So I am currently selling a townhouse that I have owned for over 2 years and my profit margin is looking to be around 120-130K after all the realtor fees/etc. That is the number I am expected to take in. I came home after being abroad for almost 2 weeks and the apartment was different to how I left it. I asked them what happened and my landlord's husband said it was my landlord's mum and she was preparing the apartment for cleaning.
I was in touch with the cleaning company and clearly told them that we are out of the country, and will be scheduling cleaning for next week, when we come back.
Now they request that they can come and clean on Friday and leave the apartment empty - the last few times I was home while they cleaned, because I already had assumptions that something is wrong here, this was my previous post about the situation.
I'm not the cleanest person for german standards for sure, I have adhd, I travel a lot and I'm pregnant. So I was gladly paying for monthly cleaning to make sure they won't screw me with the deposit, but I feel really patronized and controlled with them checking on how I leave the apartment. Just to clarify: I took out the garbage, threw out everything from the fridge that could go wrong, and vacuumed before leaving, so it's not that it's dirty, but they clean 4 hours even in a clean apartment and expect everything to be perfect.
I honestly feel very uncomfortable with this situation and I want to leave. I have 2 months left from the contract, and they have 2 months deposit. I guess I have to forget that deposit in that case.

I'm definitely the Ahole here but Im trying to navigate the situation the healthiest way for all parties.

A little Backstory: I have been with my husband for 26 years, and with my GF for 16 years. My Husband has known about my sexuality as long as I have and was with me on my (very private) journey of self discovery and all decisions about our marriage were made together. It was a year into our relationship before she was able to meet the kids and 2 years before she got to be around them. After that when she came to town she would stay in the house with us and no, nothing ever happened between us in front of the kids.
My daughter did know when she was 8 most of the other kids when they were 12. I know I screwed up here, thinking that to normalize our relationship to them would be the best thing. holding hands and sitting close to each other as an expression of love that could be seen in any relationship not just a romantic one, if nothing else, they should just see people that care for one another.
A the same time, I behaved even more affectionately with their father on a day to day basis normally for whatever that is worth. and for clarity, my GF was not there all the time, 1-2 times a year for a few weeks to a month at a time, so her being around was definitely not the majority of time.
So about my daughter. From a very young age she needed more expression of love and attention than my boys. she was very competitive with her brother as they were only 18 months apart. She was always a very good person with a tendency to lie, steal, gaslight and manipulate.
Example when she was 7, I had a new DS and she had taken it. I came to her room to ask if she had seen it, it was sitting behind her under a pillow and I could see it, she swore to me up and down that she didn't take it, suggested many alternatives, questioned my memory, swore that there weren't even any games she liked. Why would she take it? Don't I know her? Don't I trust her? She's very smart. She's only gotten more secretive, sneaky, learned more about how to get at people's (especially mine) insecurities and weaknesses. She will even swear she hates something she likes if it serves the narrative of her lies.
She's gone on to steal other things, especially when she is angry or feeling ignored, she's just learned to hide them better or throw them away. There is usually a grain of truth in her lies. She told a teacher she had to care for her elderly grandparents including changing their depends, her disabled brother, and be the sole after school care provider for her younger siblings. This was her explanation to a HS teacher as to why her assignment would be late. Her grandparents were very able bodied, she helped move some things. Her "disabled" brother is not wheelchair bound, takes care of all of his bodily needs, bathes and feeds himself and is older than her so she doesn't need to do anything there and at the time she was not responsible for watching her younger brothers for more than 30 minutes once a week.
All that said, she is still a very kind, caring, generous, strong and reliable person, as long as the relationship is on her terms. She has just always pushed and demanded and wanted more and I have spend more time, energy, money and effort on her than all her brothers combined. She's the only one with her own room, I pay for her phone, car insurance, and when she was indignant that I was helping her brother with his rent at college, I didn't even remind her that she lives with me and eats my food for free. (She is 21)
What I know I have to own the blame for: I let my GF take the kids during the day while I was at work. She loves them, considers them her stepkids, generally was doing activities with them, hanging out with them. She comes from a very toxic ad dysfunctional family environment (don't we all in some ways) she helped provide routine, structure and love to the kids, I saw this as a good thing.
There were times when either or both of us would be more free with our words when we were talking with her. she did nor (at 8-12) need to be included in any of the nuance of our relationship. positive or negative.
We took her shopping or out with us to movies, at the time I considered this spending time with her she now sees as us using her as a cover.
I have let my GF parent her and her brothers to a degree. I have not kept all the rules and limitations consistent between her being here and not. Things like, portion control, bedtime, pajamas, brushing teeth, not eating in the livingroom, no TV after bedtime etc. She has always been more firm on these things than either me or my husband, and I considered that a benefit to the kids. Whenever she visits, there is another adult contributing to the cost of running the house, folding laundry, doing dishes, sweeping, mopping, everything is better upkept, we have more time for the kids, we play more games with them, take them out to do more activities, get held accountable to showing love for them more consistently.
She also on occasion criticized me or my husband in front of or to the kids. Set rules or punishments for the kids that were consistent with our (their father and I's) normal punishment standards. She would call me out in front of them for being lax and "changing the rules" when she was around and not upholding things when she wasn't.
She would be critical of the kids when it came to some things, I don't have a perfect memory of these things but some of it could easily be seen as "you're too fat", "you're too pushy", "you're too needy". to a young child without those ever being the words that were said or the intended message.
So I was a horrible selfish and negligent parent who ignored my daughter's mental and emotional abuse at the hands of my sometimes sidepiece. At least according to my daughter's therapist.
When my daughter was 16 there was a confrontation, I had promised to take people Christmas shopping, it was Saturday and Christmas was Tuesday. Me GF and Husband went to breakfast together, I went shopping with husband, I took some boys shopping, Husband took other boys shopping, GF doesnt drive. GF spent time with who was home, grabbed dinner, took GF, had a few other obligations that day, Daughter wanted to go shopping alone with me. Great, all other things done by 9pm, live by a 24 hour walmart so we can go there at any time. We get home and Im ready to take her and she is in her room, upset that I ignored or forgot about her. I try to apologize and tell her I had a plan and I could have communicated better and I'm ready to go then if she was still interested. Daughter yells at me that I always prioritize everyone over her, I always put other people first and her last, I'm a bootlicker and a doormat for GF and she means nothing to me. GF steps in to defend me (which I should have stopped) and GF calls daughter a child who doesn't get to dictate how an adult prioritizes her time and that I don't have to tell her anything about my plans and schedule and Daughter should just be glad I'm making time for her.
Screaming, yelling, panic attacks and shutting down later. I spent the entire next day with my daughter out so she won that one and got 5 times more time with me alone than I spent with her brothers collectively.
I told GF she was out of line, she verbally apologized to daughter for implying she didn't have any rights as a child to have an opinion or to be communicated with. The two seemed to get along for the remainder of GF's visit.
After GF leaves, daughter sees new therapist. Daughter Hates GF, never wants to see her again, might be open to forgiving her if she apologized, says she never did. I wasn't there so I can't tell her she's wrong. But the degree and severity to which she does not want GF in her sphere have grown more intense. At first, it was she didnt want to be around her, hear about her, but If I wanted her in my life that was fine. now it is I am siding with her abuser over her, I am not protecting her, I am not trust worthy, she has panic attacks every time GFs name is mentioned, with pandemic and daughter's feelings, I did not see GF for 3 years and that was only when she joined me for a few days on a business trip. Daughter had panic attacks over GF being accross the country with me.
Now Daughter is planning on being out of the house for 3 weeks housesitting, GF has not seen other kids for 4 years so really wants to see them, Husband invited her while daughter is out of the house. I could have told daughter earlier. but she had a lot going on and I didnt want to cause her to have panic attacks. I was going to tell her within 2 weeks of GF arriving about a week after the plans were set. But Grandma (Husbands mom) told her first.
So now daughter has claim to lies and manipulation and noone having her back, and her having panic attacks and how could I let her abuser into our home, (she claimed the same thing about her older brother that she had physical and verbal fights with growing up, the disabled one, and he does have issues) and I am destroying my relationship with her and I am choosing someone who is manipulative, toxic and controlling over her.
Point of clarity No, my daughter was never SA'd by Husband or GF, and absolutely not by me, but I know someone will bring it up. My daughter has said she was SA'd by someone, did not feel safe to tell me about it, does not trust me, and wont tell me more, but not by GF or Husband.
So I am feeling like I have to make a choice here. GF or Daughter. GF votes I choose daughter. If I have to choose, its daughter hands down no contest because she is my daughter. Husband doesn't know what to do, just doesn't want anyone hurting. There is no choice that isn't painful for someone.
Love any advice anyone has for me including that Im a sinner who will burn in hell. I know.

Background: Weâre both in our early twenties and have known each other since end of middle school/early high school. Although we lived very close to each other at the time, weâve maintained this internet friendship and havenât met in person for years. Then Iâve moved to a different country. We still kept up the friendship and finally met after years of not seeing each other, when I came back to visit. A misunderstanding happened between me and my partner, that, I admit, I probably took too long to settle because a part of me didnât want it settled. I'm a newbie here and hope it's the right place to post!
My ex and I recently had a quick and messy separation. I was a SAHP and mostly not by choice. I was consistently looking for part time work.
I had to take a full time job to be able to afford any kind of apartment and share custody with my ex. (4 nights with me - 3 working days and 1 weekend day because he would like a weekend day too)
My job pays okay tbh and it's the best I could find in short notice and I managed to find a cheap studio apartment for me and LO. I also have no family to help out so I have no choice but to send LO to daycare and can't receive government aid where I am.
So time for the Math...
My salary is $1,700 per month. Child support here is legally $190 a month and for reference, my apartment is $950 a month and day care would be $850 per month for 3 days. So, I'm left with $90 a month for a travel ticket to work ($60) and food. The law prevents me from moving to another city without his permission and I can't move back to my home country without his permission either. Which he obviously won't give for understandable reasons.
My ex makes a considerable amount more than me and is very comfortable. He pays for care for our LO for his 2 days a week.
Would it be morally wrong to ask him again to help me the tiniest bit with day care costs and could this be something I could take to court maybe? I would lose my job if I can't afford the day care and therefore, lose my apartment and be literally homeless.
He previously told me that it wasn't his issue and if I couldn't afford it, he would take full custody of our LO. This made me mad in the beginning because I literally had a 2 week notice from him to move out and get myself stable, and I basically did it as best as I could and will obviously still be looking for better options, but it doesn't help in this immediate moment.
Things have calmed down a little and I'm wondering how to approach this again? I don't want to be homeless or give him FULL custody of our LO. I know he doesn't owe me anything (I'm constantly reminded) but I can't help but think he would at least want the best for our LO. My ex and I recently had a quick and messy separation. I was a SAHP and mostly not by choice. I was consistently looking for part time work.
I had to take a full time job to be able to afford any kind of apartment and share custody with my ex. (4 nights with me - 3 working days and 1 weekend day because he would like a weekend day too)
My job pays okay tbh and it's the best I could find in short notice and I managed to find a cheap studio apartment for me and LO. I also have no family to help out so I have no choice but to send LO to daycare and can't receive government aid where I am.
So time for the Math...
My salary is $1,700 per month. Child support here is legally $190 a month and for reference, my apartment is $950 a month and day care would be $850 per month for 3 days. So, I'm left with $90 a month for a travel ticket to work ($60) and food. The law prevents me from moving to another city without his permission and I can't move back to my home country without his permission either. Which he obviously won't give for understandable reasons.
My ex makes a considerable amount more than me and is very comfortable. He pays for care for our LO for his 2 days a week.
Would it be morally wrong to ask him again to help me the tiniest bit with day care costs and could this be something I could take to court maybe? I would lose my job if I can't afford the day care and therefore, lose my apartment and be literally homeless.
He previously told me that it wasn't his issue and if I couldn't afford it, he would take full custody of our LO. This made me mad in the beginning because I literally had a 2 week notice from him to move out and get myself stable, and I basically did it as best as I could and will obviously still be looking for better options, but it doesn't help in this immediate moment.
Things have calmed down a little and I'm wondering how to approach this again? I don't want to be homeless or give him FULL custody of our LO. I know he doesn't owe me anything (I'm constantly reminded) but I can't help but think he would at least want the best for our LO.
