Fitnation upright & recumbent flex bike
Recumbent Bike Comfort
2023.03.24 19:09 electricitycat977 Recumbent Bike Comfort
I have heard that recumbents are more comfortable to ride on for long term commutes on bike. I am wondering if any people here are familiar with both upright and recumbent bikes, and if so would they would agree or disagree with this statement.

2023.03.24 15:44 ProtNotProt Getting back into exercising.
At the beginning of last December, severe knee pain left me unable to walk very far. Doing grocery shopping was uncomfortable. It got so bad I had to start physical therapy, especially after tweeking the knee so bad I could not stand up. I was unable to use an upright exercise bicycle. even after PT. I could use a recumbent, however.
I just now ordered a recumbent, so I will start using this next week. A few questions. Is there a way to auto add distance pedaled to a workout? The bike will be using the JRNY app. Having a ride cross over to AppleHealth while the watch can measure heart rate.

2023.03.23 17:12 Particular_Potato_28 Touring with 88-year old father
My dad has been a strong biker his whole life -- he was out biking and touring in the 70s when people thought he was crazy. In 2021, five family members (dad, his two daughters, and our husbands) did a 3-week tour in Austria which was wonderful. He, for the first time, got an ebike while we were on standard bikes. We were mostly on dedicated bike paths and it all worked out great. The biggest problem with the ebike was that he got cold when we were working harder and keeping warm.
We want to do another (shorter) tour this summer with him but his balance has gotten increasingly worse. He stays upright but weaves when he rides.
We are thinking about trying a tricycle recumbent or a tandem. He is a little resistant but wants to keep touring/riding. Does anybody have experience with this? He has experience with a recumbent.
(And you can do the math--the rest of us are in our 60s so we're not planning huge distances). Thanks!

2023.03.23 04:37 thecolbs I biked solo 2,400 kms (1,500 miles) from Amsterdam to Rome along the Reitsma Route
| Hi folks - as Spring arrives and European trip planning is upon us, I wanted to share a trip report for my ride from Amsterdam to Rome in May - June of 2022 along the Reitsma Route. I posted about this last spring. Since I couldn’t find many English resources on this route, I hope this post can be helpful for others that are curious. I highly recommend this route. https://preview.redd.it/jh64imzizepa1.png?width=1294&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ae4aa5a8086f9019ecab07a94ca3d213c63b186 TLDR; I rode the Reitsma Route from Amsterdam to Rome. It was around 1,500 miles (2,415 kms) and took 29 riding days and ~6 rest days. The route is divided into three sections. It included legs in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Most of your miles are in Germany and Italy. I had never done a long distance cycle tour and largely used campgrounds. All resources for this route are in Dutch and so it isn't well known outside of the Netherlands & Belgium. Stats: Total Distance: 1,542.8 miles (2481.28 kms) Average distance per day: 53.2 miles (85.6 kms) Highest mileage day: 81.2 miles (130.6 kms) Total elevation gain (gross): 55,879 feet (17,032 meters) Average elevation gain per day (gross): 1,926.8 feet (587.2 meters) Most elevation gain in one day: 6,461 feet (1,969.3 meters) Total Calories burned: 65,885 Total Stroopwafels burned: 488 Average Stroopwafels burned per day: 17 Days Camped: 20 Resources: The route can be found here. I don’t speak Dutch and only stumbled upon it in a reddit comment. I used google translate to translate the page. You can download the GPS tracks here. I started by simply plugging these into my phone and could not find a way to get a guide outside of The Netherlands. Along the way, I emailed the route creator and we arranged for him to send me a PDF, which is also in Dutch, but still a big help. Campgrounds: The route has campgrounds, but there are gaps where you'll need to arrange a hotel or hostel, especially in Italy. European campgrounds are mostly for RVs and can be cramped. However, I would do it again, as some were real gems. Most had great facilities, and learning what "bread service" was improved my life dramatically. Italy had fewer campgrounds, so budget for that. I was tempted to wild camp but did not. Route description and commentary: My favorite aspect of this route is the diverse range of cultures encountered and the gradual transitions between them. I want to emphasize that. The experience of these transitions is a slow and immersive one, allowing for a deeper understanding of the way in which the surrounding culture is influenced by the changing terrain. Starting with the Dutch and ending with the Italians, the route provides a comprehensive experience of these cultural shifts. Life fell into a bit of rhythm. A predictable routine emerged: wake up, eat, load bike, start cycling, stop for coffee, and possibly grab a bite. Being in different countries, the routine varied slightly based on cultural differences. For example, I could rely on great grocery stores in The Netherlands but less so in Italy, where I survived on foccacia pizza and espresso. Through the Netherlands and Germany, I experienced a more flat terrain. I cycled through charming villages, lush river valleys, and rolling farmland. The Roer, Neckar & Rhine rivers influenced the route and were major highlights. Since I traveled in early June, the temperatures were cool, and I encountered occasional rain showers, so be sure to pack accordingly. I started the day with a sweater and often kept it on all day. One of my favorite pieces of gear in this section was a buff around my neck. On Day 13 of my trip, I was thrilled to finally catch a glimpse of the Alps and arrived in Garmisch-Partenkriche, situated at the foot of Zugspitze, Germany's tallest mountain. From there, the route changed significantly as I entered the Alps and crossed the Buchener Höhe and Reschen passes, where I was treated to the stunning views of the Ortler peaks. One of the highlights of the trip was cycling along the headwaters of the Adige River, watching it gradually grow and support entire cities. I was surprised to ride in Italy for three days and still be immersed in Germanic culture. It wasn't until Trento that I truly felt like I was in Italy. Emerging from the Alps, I quickly traversed the Po River Valley before pushing towards the rugged Apennine Mountains. In Ferrara, I opted for the scenic and challenging Tuscan route, passing through the Emilia Romagna region and over Passo della Futa towards those rolling Tuscan hills. The Val d'Orcia marked the striking end of Tuscany, followed by visits to charming Sorano and Lago di Bolsena. The final stretch to Rome was somewhat of a no man's land, which I covered in a single day. The surreal experience of riding from the North Sea to the steps of the Vatican culminated in my arrival in Rome, which appeared as a colossus after so many small villages. General Advice & Observations: - Surprisingly, it wasn’t easy to find someone to work on my bike in Amsterdam. Most shops only wanted to work on those standard Dutch step through bikes. A local confirmed this and lamented the fact.
- Virtually everyone on the route up until the Alps was Dutch, unsurprisingly.
- The route links together several existing networks. You can leverage that and then hop onto another one, if you don’t have Rome as a goal.
- I did virtually no planning and it turned out fine. I downloaded the GPS and trusted the route maker. I didn’t have the actual guide until around 10 days of riding. That helped me pick places to eat or stop, so I recommend getting it. Additionally, it lists bike shops if you have trouble.
- There was always a place to stop and resupply/eat/get a coffee each day. Just note that Sundays in the smaller villages are very quiet and some places may be closed.
- I’d say most of your effort is in the last 1/3 of this route if you choose Tuscany. But I would do it again, no question.
- Savor the Alps. Don’t rush through this.
- Italy has more traffic, but I didn’t have any bad experiences.
- Every campground I stayed in had toilets and showers.
- I had never camped in Europe. Tents tend to be pitched somewhat closer together than I was used to.
Bike Setup: Here’s a quick video of my setup. Here’s a quick summary. - Dropbar carbon gravel bike with WTB Venture fast rolling gravel tires. No need for those tires, but they did fine. Would have liked to be sitting more upright, but I did enjoy the quickness/nimbleness of my bike.
- Tailfin saddle bag and panniers. Loved these! Oveja Negra bags elsewhere
- 1 person tent. Would have preferred a 2 person for those rainy days.

2023.03.20 03:01 Moldy_slug [WTS] Thinning the herd - Parker 180 BROAD nib, Sailor PGS Mini, and vintage Waterman flex eyedropper
Got a few pens up for grabs that I just don't reach for as often as I'd like. Time for them to get new homes where they'll get more love!
All prices include US shipping. Open to offers.
Please message me via DMs only, no chat - I can't see reddit chat on mobile. Cheers!
Parker 180 Flighter - Broad/Fine - [C] - $90 Super juicy reversible B/F nib with slight velvety feedback. This pen is in great shape - rated C conservatively just because of its age. Comes with original parker squeeze converter. Unfortunately it's just too skinny for me to comfortably use... the 180 is a
very slim pen, so if that's your thing you'll probably love it.
Pics/verification:
https://imgur.com/a/WShFNZL Sailor Pro Gear Slim Mini (brown) - H-MF - [B] - $110 Cute pen! This is the version that has push-on post vs threaded. Cap seats very securely to make a nice full-size pen. Writes nice, just like a sailor should. Comes with a mini-converter.

https://imgur.com/a/J5z383E [SOLD] Waterman 12 - EF Flex nib - [C] - $130 Bought this one from
u/popcodswallop about a year ago - see the description for number 2 at
this link It's a slip-cap eyedropper with a nice flex nib that goes from EF-BB with moderate pressure. Good reliable ink flow, smooth & firm enough for quick cursive writing but soft enough to get nice variation without killing your hand. Like most early eyedroppers it will spit ink into the cap if it's not stored upright, but it does
not leak during normal use.
I love almost everything about this lil' guy... unfortunatly it's just not suited for the way I hold a pen. At very shallow writing angles the feed bumps the page when flexing. If you have an average or more verticle writing angle this won't be an issue.
While it's still in great shape, I rated it C because I've used it extensively. The black has faded slightly and evenly to a very dark brown. I tried to capture the color shift in photos but it's so dark it just looks black.
I paid $175 for it, selling at a discount to reflect the cosmetic differences.

2023.03.19 16:17 hallach_halil Halil's top 10 linebackers of the 2023 NFL Draft:
| https://preview.redd.it/nivvakiujpoa1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=4eca067a9e3a15dbe6bdfaaacbc8131eea5b3c45 After kicking things off with the running backs earlier this week, we’re switching over to the defensive side for the first time for these positional draft breakdowns and look at this linebacker class. Especially as we get to these positions on defense, where what you covet depends so much on what your scheme asks of players and how play-callers utilize these guys, boards will look a lot different for each team. So this is just me looking at this from a more general standpoint and ranking these prospects based on how valuable their skill-sets can be for the NFL. It’s kind of an ambiguous group of linebackers this year I believe, because as we get to the edge defenders a couple of weeks from now, you’ll see that there’s some overlap, where a player may be defined differently depending on who you ask. Wisconsin’s Nick Herbig for example will be part of my edge rundown, rather be listed here. I don’t think there’s a single clear-cut first-rounder, taking positional value into account, but the first four names should all go in the second round and then there’s about seven names I think have a case to go in the third. After that, there are quite a few names, who can fill a certain role and contribute on special teams, but overall there are just too many guys I think are undersized or lack a certain quality, for me to call this a strong class. This is how I have these names stacked up: https://preview.redd.it/xmq2fqfvjpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9e10a57f25ec7748f61586ccef1cab62d446096 1. Jack Campbell, Iowa 6’5”, 245 pounds; RS SR Just a three-star recruit in 2019, Campbell saw very limited action as a true freshman, but already filled the stat sheet pretty well as a backup in year two. He exploded in 2021, when he was a second-team All-Big Ten selection, thanks to 140 total tackles, 3.5 for loss, six PBUs, two interceptions and fumble recoveries each, of which he returned one to the house respectively. This past season, he won the Butkus Award for the top LB in the nation and was named Big-10 Defensive Player of the Year, along with being named first-team All-American, with very similar numbers to the year prior. + Has oldschool measurements for the position and plays with a great combination of instincts and trust in film study + One of those guys, who just sees plays coming before they happen and he plays faster than his time speed (4.65 in the 40) would indicate – legitimately reads out plays between the tackles and sorts through the trash to great effect + Routinely squeezes through the crease between blockers and churns his legs to stop the momentum of ball-carriers, It almost looks like a running back trying to drive ahead as he’s in contact against those guys + When meeting a lead- or insert-blocker in the hole, Campbell typically stands that guy up and forces the ball-carrier to stop his feet momentarily at least + His hands to shed are rapid and effective, while the length allows him to be first to initiate contact and keep his frame clean mostly + Has some excellent lateral agility to side-step linemen working up to him and getting his hands on the guy with the ball, which putting up the top marks in the three-cone (6.74) and short-shuttle (4.24) at the combine backs up + This guy just finds a way to bring ball-carriers to the ground, whether it’s head-on collisions, having to twist them down from the side or dive after guys to just trip them up, And with his strength, he consistently makes sure that guy goes backwards once he arrives there + Won’t stop pursuing the ball and gets involved on every other tackle it seems like + Has great awareness and length to pop the ball up when quarterbacks try to throw crossers over his head + His height also makes it challenging to put the ball out in front for guys streaking down the seams when he’s carrying them + Active communicator in zone coverage, who points out targets he’s passing off from his area + Understands when he’s being high-low stretched and is ready to make tackles for minimal yardage if the ball is completed in front of him – 19 coverage stops his past season + Was the highest-graded LB in coverage according to PFF (92.9) last season, who continues ripping through the hands of receivers in his area to dislodge the ball + You’ll see him flow lateral run-fakes in order to take care of his assignments if the ball is actually handed off, but be light enough on his feet to change direction and gain depth quickly + So consistent with his angles in space and meeting guys at the sideline, breaking down in space and slinging guys dynamic skill players to the ground + Takes a very aggressive approach when matched one-on-one with the back and often doesn’t even let them get into their routes/past the line of scrimmage cleanly + In the screen game and when being matched up with somebody having to fight over rubs, he’s consistently the one landing his hands and working off contact + Tremendous at timing up his blitzes, without giving anything away typically + Does well to sort through the trash as an add-on rusher or green-dogs – Doesn’t quite have that flat-out speed to run down ball-carriers from the backside as some other top LB prospects like Clemson’s Trenton Simpson for example, and you see some backs beat him towards the sideline after catching the ball out in the flats – Not somebody who’ll just shoot through gaps and create negative plays, with only nine of his 265 combined tackles these past two seasons being for loss – Makes plays as a coverage player in Iowa’s scheme, but if he had to actually run with receivers vertically or just match smaller bodies truly in man-coverage, with lots of space and no help, he’ll probably struggle, The NFL may find ways to isolate that aspect of his game – When he’s mugged over the center or can’t shoot through a gap as a blitzer, too often his rush stalls, allowing blockers to square him up It’s rare to find a linebacker like Campbell these days, with how much lighter that position has come, to counter offenses spreading them out. This guy is a true oldschool MIKE, who can consistently stack-and-shed offensive linemen and create stalemates in the hole against big backs. Campbell doesn’t have a ton of range, but his short-area burst is more than adequate and as his numbers at the combine proved, he has shocking agility for a player his size. He won’t make a ton of splash plays at the next level or be somebody who you feel great about flexing out into the slot, but he’s absolutely a three-down player, who will instantly boost your run defense and be a valuable piece in coverage, with his awareness, length and open-field tackling skills. https://preview.redd.it/u71yoh71kpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e335cac2df7fa78208bfe8dd83bf2b56f19563b1 2. Drew Sanders, Arkansas 6’5”, 235 pounds; JR If labelled as an actual linebacker (instead of “ATH”) in the 2020 recruiting class, Sanders would have been behind only those two Oregon guys in Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe – and he was the top overall recruit in the state of Texas. As a freshman at Alabama, he was a core special teamer and worked his way onto the field defensively in year two, taking over for the injured Christopher Allen at SAM, before suffering an injury that limited his time over the second half of the season, ultimately starting three of 12 games played and recording 24 tackles and two PBUs. He decided to transfer in-conference ahead of 2022 and became a star on Arkansas’ defense off the ball as their MIKE, as he racked up 103 total tackles, 13.5 of those for loss, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception and five PBUs, making him a first-team All-SEC and All-American selection. + Has enough force in his hands to set a physical edge in the run game when lined up there, whilst being reliable with holding his contain responsibilities, And that ability to lock out also shows up when he has to keep blockers at bay who work straight up to him + Approaches the line of scrimmage with urgency and does not hesitate to bang into bigger bodies, to squeeze down lanes + There are some snaps on tape, where he meets wrap-around pullers in the hole and control them with full extension + Very slippery with slicing through a gap before linemen can combo off to him, in order to flash in the backfield and force cutbacks + Possesses plus contact balance, to stay on his feet and at times wrap up the ball-carrier, whilst blockers are engaged with him + Displays good patience on the backside of zone runs, to shuffle along for a potential cutback, and then has enough speed to flatten and knock guys out of bounds for four-/five-yards gains as the ball-carrier decides to bounce + Overall, Sanders is very active with his hands to fight off blocks and get contact on the guy with the ball, And when needed he can scrape over guys trying to pin him away from the action + Displays good awareness as a zone dropper, for targets curling up behind him and to pick up guys trying to work underneath him + When he drives down on stuff in front of him, he explodes out of his stance and will get there in a hurry + Light on his feet and reads the hip of scrambling quarterbacks well, to limit their yardage as a spy or just hook dropper + In general, his chase speed out to the perimeter is a major plus + His length is not only an asset when battling with blockers, but also increasing his range in coverage and to slow down ball-carriers trying to run away from him + Packs some pretty effective hand-swipes and can link those better with his hips than most off-ball backers, Especially slapping the hands away and sliding inside of tackles can create issues for those guys + Can physically overwhelm running backs tasked with picking him up as a blitzer, and if he learns how to utilize his suddenness, he will become even more dangerous, as he can side-step guys to greater effect + Times up the snap exceptionally well and crashes through one half of guards at full force + Racked up an insane 39 pressures and basically double-digit sacks on just 147 pass-rush snaps (according to PFF) last year – Needs to get stronger and more comfortable with stacking and shedding blockers technically correct with consistency, if teams want him to be a true MIKE at the next level – At times is too hell-bent on beating blockers to the spot on the front-side and enables backs to cut up runs inside of him – And way too often he’s racing down on quarterbacks off bootlegs or scrambling and badly overshoots the target, as that guy stops to just slip inside of him – Not a super forceful tackler, as ball-carriers gain a couple of extra yards as he hits them from the side quite regularly – missed an alarming 19.6% of his tackling attempts this past season (22 of 125) – Still learning the intricacies of the position in coverage as well, where he’s caught “covering grass” on too many occasions Unlike a few other prospects where I’d say it’s unjustified they get labelled that way, Sanders truly is a diverse play-maker. He has the size, length, flexibility and powerful hands to potentially play outside linebacker in odd- or even-fronts, as well as either stand-up spot between the tackles. The question is how you do ultimately deploy him and if he’s better suited being more locked into one spot early on, before you really tap into that versatility once he’s acclimated to the NFL. Breaking down and running his feet through tackles will be a major area of improvement for him, but what he can provide as a pressure player from different angles and alignments, combined with the tough and aggressive mindset to attack against the run, give him the potential to be the most impactful linebacker of this class. https://preview.redd.it/z4nt42u4kpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22992490ce820bd6763be101d49259c5c8c8e410 3. Daiyan Henley, Washington State 6’1”, 220 pounds; RS SR A pretty unknown two-star recruit in 2017, Henley spent five years at Nevada, where for the first three, he was basically a designated special teamer. However, he saw more defensive action in 2020 and then really made noise the following season, recording 94 tackles, two for loss, four interceptions, passes deflected and fumbles recovered each. Thanks to a redshirt and the COVID exception, he got a chance to prove himself for a Power-Five program at Wazzu, where he racked up 106 total stops, 12 for loss, four sacks, one pick, three fumbles forced and two more recovered. That earned him first-team All-Pac-12 accolades. + Good girth throughout his frame and can stack up blockers on the move to great effect, actively engaging contact, And you see him work off contact on an angle well, to still get his hands on the ball and stop momentum + Shows some twitch and short-area agility to navigate around traffic and flattening after going underneath blocks + Packs a sudden dip of the outside shoulder when linemen or tight-ends try to block down on him, to slip around and run down the ball-carrier + You really like the way Henley floats down the line in the zone run game, whilst keeping his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage + When trailing pulling guards, he can beat those guys to the spot and blow through their shoulder on like GT power, to funnel the ball back inside + His chase speed across the field or to run down fly sweeps is very impressive, You see him run down guys like Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams in space looking at their ’22 matchup vs. USC + And he rarely allows opponents to pin him away from the action, using the near-arm as a window wiper, so he can’t be grabbed + Very strong tackler, who stuffs the momentum of ball-carriers typically when meeting them head-up, while flipping them over if he catches them on an angle + Will alligator-roll or lasso guys to the ground in space and rarely misses any key stops – missed a miniscule five of 111 attempts this past season + Arguably has the best movement skills as a coverage backer in this class, which was also apparent at the combine, where all his change-of-direction stuff was super tight, not taking any unnecessary steps or having any delay on those (along with being above-average in all the testing) + I thought with the Cougars, what Henley did in coverage had a lot more purpose, whether it’s acting like a quasi-spy or drifting underneath patterns, to shrink those windows for the QB + Does well to pick off crossers as a hook-defender and is quick to drive up on stuff in the flats or shut down backs hooking up over the middle, while being very patient, to not let that foot-fake him in one-on-one tackling situations + Displays some impressive mobility to redirect vs. boot action and take away lay-ups or chase down the QB + Had some great moments in coverage one-on-one with the running backs during Senior Bowl week, perfectly driving on, undercutting and reaching around for clean PBUs + Because of how easily he gains ground vertically, you can put him guy anywhere on the line of scrimmage and bail him out into those hook-to-flat areas + Shows real skills as a pass-rusher, being able to execute hand swipes, bend and flatten to the quarterback – he wasn’t asked to blitz a ton, but he won on 24.6% of his rushes (according to PFF) + Henley’s closing burst was used on some cross-dog blitzes and wide loops as part of Wazzu’s pressure packages, typically when walked down over the center – Seemed like a very reactionary player at Nevada and I still wouldn’t describe him as somebody that methodically reads through his keys, to lead him to the football – Gets his eyes trapped in the backfield fairly regularly and can be caught off guard by misdirection – Not somebody you want to stack-and-shed bigger bodies and may be a pure WILL in some schemes around the league – While the movement skills are all there seemingly to be an asset in man-coverage, we have very limited reps to evaluate him off, and he wasn’t asked to actively squeeze down windows in zone shells After just laying my eyes on Henley initially, the first thing I was worried about was seeing that he’s like a super super-senior. Yet, when I looked at the actual age, I realized that he won’t turn 24 until mid-way through his rookie season. Once I got past that, I was wondering how he was behind a bunch of other names at the position on consensus boards, who he thankfully seems to have risen above recently. He’ll play in the 225-pound range most likely, but the way he can reduce his surface area and make impact against the run make him a great fit on the weak-side, if you have more of a thumper at MIKE. And his movement skills as a coverage defender make him a highly intriguing prospect. To me, Henley just needs to continue working on reading his keys and not zeroing in on what he sees in the backfield. https://preview.redd.it/qz4gjiz7kpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb2107ded3fa9ec814bf592d6a14994c8df979a3 4. Trenton Simpson, Clemson 6’3”, 225 pounds; JR Being pretty much head-to-head with Oregon’s Justin Flowe and Noah Sewell for the title as the number one LB recruit in 2020, Simpson already flashed as a true freshman, but really impressed in year two, when he recorded 65 total tackles, 12.5 for loss, 6.5 sacks and two passes broken up in the STAR role, which guys like Dorian O’Daniel and Isaiah Simmons played prior to him under Brent Venables. This past season, he played between the tackles more regularly and while his negative plays created went down (four TFLs and 2.5 sacks), he did reach a career-high 72 tackles, three PBUs and a couple of forced fumbles. + His short-area explosiveness really pops off the screen, whether he can flat-out shoot through a lane before the blocker can get there or he actively back-doors zone blockers and still flattens down to the back (the 4.43 at the combine backed that up) + Does a nice job of moving laterally with blocks on the move and disengaging at the right moment, to get the wrap on the ball-carrier + With him at the tip of tight bunches, those receivers have no chance of actually keeping him from the action as blockers + When offenses use lead-blockers on Simpsons, he will blast into them and actually knock them backwards, even if they outweigh him by 30+ pounds + If tight-ends are asked to seal him on the backside, this guy will lift them off their feet momentarily or completely throw them to the side at times + Leaving him unblocked as an edge defender, when running the ball the other way, is a gamble, because he has that short-area burst to run people down before they get to the line of scrimmage, if they have top hesitate at all + So light on his feet when tracking ball-carriers out to the perimeter and keeping his shoulders square in order to not make it easy for the guy across from him to get around him (to either direction) + Pretty reliable tackler, who shoots his arms and chops down ball-carriers on an angle when corralling them in open space (10.5% miss rate across the past two seasons) + This is an incredible loose athlete, whose movement in space as a coverage asset will make him very intriguing to NFL teams + Has the speed to carry receivers down the seams or hashes and then can redirect to be in the vicinity for crossers, once he’s passed them on to his safeties, There are a couple of really impressive reps running with tight-ends straight down the field and raking the ball out of their hands + You can’t really attack this guy with running backs sliding across his alignment or releasing late, because of how quickly he closes that distance to them in man-/match-coverage + Even if he does get sucked up by play-action, he can rapidly gain depth and take away easy opportunities on crossers over his head + Very light on his toes, to not get caught in the mud as tight-ends try to break away from him + Understands where his leverage is, how much gain to depth in his drops and peaks out to potential receivers breaking his way + Greets targets coming into his area as a hook-defender, by throwing a friendly shoulder into them regularly + Has the quick burst to chase down scrambling QBs effectively + If Simpson can time the snap up properly and come in as a blitzer with a running start, he’s like a missile, And you regularly see him just run through the reach of backs in protection, while making good use of his active hands generally, to side-step them + Particularly being lined up over the center initially and then shooting to then through B-gap makes him highly dangerous + His lateral agility and how quickly he closes that space to the QB, led to him regularly being deployed as a spy and/or add-on rusher, where he tpyically elevated to take away passing lanes + Was blitzed off the edge on multiple occasions, where he could win with speed or then counter inside as he gets tackles to flip their hips – Once again, with guys playing that overhang position for the Tigers in recent years, there’s no one legit spot they can plug him in right away (at least in terms on base packages) – Had very little experience reading the run in-between the tackles prior to this season, where he seemed to be more reactionary and didn’t look very comfortable trying to take on blockers near the point of attack – more of a see-ball get-ball type of player right now – Regularly takes the worse off contact with O-linemen in the run game and when he gets caught off balance, trying to shoot through a crease, he gets taken for a ready by some guys, And he needs to keep his outside arm free when tasked with contain responsibilities. – While his coverage profile is highly intriguing purely from what he can do athletically, he was largely a spot-dropper in zone, and he doesn’t yet have that feel for find the right balance between reading the QB’s eyes and targets in space – For a guy with nearly 1500 total defensive snaps in his career and appealing because of the way he can play in space, no interceptions and five PBUs is underwhelming ball-production In contrast to Iowa’s Jack Campbell, who is your prototype middle linebacker from days past, Simpson is very much in the mold of what the NFL has been transitioning to, in order to counter 11-personnel heavy offenses and how they’ve attacked slower bodies in coverage. Simpson has legit sideline-to-sideline speed and you love the way he can move in space – gaining depth, flipping his hips and quickly erasing distance. However, I was a bit discouraged by the fact his instincts as a zone-defender, to see/feel receivers around him and still triggering as he sees the quarterback initiate his release. That combined with being a lot more impactful as a run-and-chase type of player has me thinking he actually projects for more narrow role than some people would make you think – a WILL linebacker with heavy usage in man-coverage against backs and tight-ends. On top of that, where he can still become a real asset is as a spy or add-on rusher against mobile quarterbacks in obvious passing situations. https://preview.redd.it/8ak1ubdakpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b60e271163f49cd963b2f67ab7762651bddc9baf 5. Henry To’o To’o, Alabama 6’2”, 230 pounds; SR A top-50 overall recruit in 2019, To’o To’o collected 140 combined tackles, 12.5 of those for loss, four passes deflected and a pick-six during his two years at Tennessee, he transferred over to Alabama ahead of the ’21 season, as his head coach Jeremy Pruitt was let go, He turned that into a second-team All-SEC season, with 111 total tackles, 7.5 for loss, four sacks and a fumble forced, Last year he improved to first-team, with 94 more stops, eight for loss and 2.5 sacks + Primarily played the MIKE spot for the Crimson Tide and was a key cog for that unit over the last couple of years + Can flow front-side with controlled steps and square shoulders, before redirecting and taking down the ball-carrier on cutbacks for limited yardage + Doesn’t mindlessly shoot through gaps, just because they open up in front of his him, if the back is still behind the line of scrimmage and not aiming that way + With his arms being just ¼ of an inch short of the 33-mark, you see him extend effectively on angular blockers, when he has leverage on the gap + Light on his feet to mirror guys navigating around blocks and pairs his lateral movement simultaneously with quick hand-swipes + Due to seeing it early, he has adequate speed and quick hands to scrape over the top of blocks and shut down perimeter-oriented plays + Pursues the ball with great energy and shuts things down out to the edges more frequently than you’d expect a 4.62 guy to do + Shows up all over the field, constantly getting involved on tackles after turning around and chasing after completions over his head + While To’o To’o is an excellent run-defender, he rarely gets his eyes trapped in the backfield or get sucked in deep by play-action, not voiding his area needlessly + Active communicator in zone coverage, who passes off and is looking to pick up targets as the pattern progresses + Effectively takes away hook, stick and curl routes by floating underneath them + Displays great awareness for crossing routes coming in behind him and getting underneath them + For a longer build, he can flip his hips pretty smoothly and he adjust the angle accordingly, as he recognizes the depth of routes + Doesn’t shy away from crashing through one shoulder of an interior lineman and creating issues as a pressure player + Recognizes when he can rush because the back stays in protection or if there’s an opening for him, as the back is delayed in his release, helping out with chips + Was used on some green-dog blitzes and as a spy rusher, Executed some WIDE loops all the ball from the B-gap to the opposite edge – Sometimes loses discipline on the front-side and guesses on cutbacks, reading things more like a running back – Doesn’t shoot his hips through the hit and drive his legs as a tackler, which led to him missing 35(!) combined attempts across his two seasons with the Crimson Tide (14.6% miss rate) – Barely played over 100 snaps outside the tackle box across these past two years and won’t be somebody you’re comfortable with matching with guys in the slot – Has to get to a plan of how to defeat running backs sliding his way, when rushing around the edge in particular, too often stopping his feet in those situations I feel like To’o To’o has gotten dragged too much so far by draft media. There’s nothing really sexy about his game and the amount of missed tackles is disturbing, but he’s been a very consistent every-down player in the middle of Nick Saban’s defense and I feel like there needs to be some context for those numbers – not only was he regularly one-on-one with some of the premier SEC backs, the two Texas guys (both top-10 RBs for me) and K-State lightning bug Deuce Vaughn, but he wasn’t totally reckless and leaves his teammates in tough spots or isn’t strong enough, but rather he needs to work on exploding his hips through contact more. He’s a disciplined zone defender and shows an understanding for how to attack protections when utilized as a pressure player. He may not be a three-down contributor for every team, because they would rather put an extra DB on the field, but I don’t see him be a legit weakness in passing situations. https://preview.redd.it/pezgdysekpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e05a9a09dde760b455b022411f582c9175c3d98 6. DeMarvion Overshown, Texas 6’4”, 220 pounds; SR Around the top-50 overall recruits in 2018, Overshown only appeared in one game as a freshman, but in 15 games of the 2019 and ’20 season combined as a starter, he totalled 78 tackles, 15 of those for loss, ten passes broken up, three sacks, interceptions and fumbles forced each. He had an even better year in ’21 however, when his stats were right in line with that, but he made several big plays to earn himself honorable mention All-Big 12 accolades. Last year that improved to first-team, as he put up career-highs in three categories (96 total tackles, 10 TFLs, four sacks) and broke up five passes (no INTs). + While he may give up plenty of weight to offensive linemen and even plenty of tight-ends, Overshown does not shy away from playing downhill + You see him on some outside-oriented run schemes, where he crashes the outside shoulder and force the ball-carrier to cut inside + More patient on the front-side, to stay behind combos and not give the back easy answers + In tight spaces, Overshown’s lack of bulk may show up at times, but when he can build up some momentum chasing the ball, he can make opposing players fly through the air + One of his best assets is the sudden explosiveness to flow with a play, then redirect and pursue, as a running back cuts back or the offense has a reverse drawn up, but also just stepping around guys and meeting the ball-carrier in the hole + Watching him open up and shut down swing screens to the back and you think he’s shot out of a cannon + You see him make a lot of plays on off-tackle runs from the backside, bubbling over the top of potential blockers, flattening down the line and running down guys + And his range to pursue from outside the screen and pop guys when he does arrive there is pretty crazy + Such an easy mover in space, with loose hips and light feet to cover ground + He rapidly gains depth on vertical drops and then can shut down flat or shallow cross routes in front of him for minimal yardage + Sorts well through mesh concepts and has the speed to run with the shallow crosser once he ends up matched up with them + His length forces quarterbacks to put extra arc on the ball when trying to throw over his head and with that wing-span it gives him little extra room to get a hand on balls around him + Not somebody quarterbacks are looking to target when manned up with the back, comfortably sticking with them for the most part + In the screen game, you see him routinely beat linemen to the spot, where he makes them look slow as hell, and even if they do initiate contact, he’ll use his length and motor to fight off those blocks + When blitzing up the middle, Overshown arrives at the quarterback in a hurry and if the O-line has to figure out how to pick up games up front, they might not even be able to get a hand on him + Can also create issues looping around the edge, which he runs with pretty good bend, And off that, Texas had him creep and bail out routinely on passing downs, because they trust his speed to get back into his area + With his explosion off the ball and length, he can legitimately rush off the corner, and he can be weaponized by knifing inside off T-E twists, where all he needs is a quick swipe-down with the near-arm as he works across the face of guards + His closing burst when racing down as quarterbacks roll outside or comes on a delayed blitz as the back stays in protection is eye-opening + Spent well over 100 snaps in the slot and the edge respectively last season – Simply doesn’t have the mass to actually take on blockers in his face as a box-defender and gets covered up by bigger bodies pretty good, Just too easily his momentum is stymied as he runs into guys who outweigh him, such as tight-ends sealing him off, who can put their frame in the way – Has to throw himself into linemen when trying to take on blocks head-on and momentarily lose vision the ball – A 30.4 PFF grade against the run in 2021 is why he returned for his redshirt senior season, and he may need to be projected by scheme to some degree – Hasn’t been asked to play a lot of man-coverage, I would like to see him redirect quicker to misdirection in the play-action game, to pick up crossers behind him – While he has improved in that regard, Overshown’s 15.8% missed tackle rate over the last two years, is still not up to par, too often diving at the ankles of ball-carriers This has been one of the more fun players to watch on the second level for the last few years. Overshown’s speed and how ferocious his play style is, you see him show up all over the field. At the same time, he’s not a reckless player and has already taken major strides in terms of processing the game. He does feature a very slender build and there will be some limitations, but he does have great length, which he can make more of a weapon with NFL coaching. You want to see him on the ground less, but his speed and lack of fear should make him a special teams standout early on and flash in defensive packages, until his new team is comfortable with the way he continues to add strength. https://preview.redd.it/ssub8g8jkpoa1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b81bac429031cef5d2e4cbc051a901b24cdec711 7. Ivan Pace Jr., Cincinnati 5’11”, 235 pounds; SR Outside the top-3000 overall recruits in 2019 for Miami of Ohio, Pace announced himself to the nation by tying an NCAA record with six sacks in a win over Akron as a true freshman. He ended up only getting one more across the other 15 games he played through two years. In 2021, he became an every-down impact player, being named first-team All-MAC thanks to leading the conference with 125 total tackles, with 13 of those leading to negative yardage, four sacks, three PBUs, an interception and forced fumble each. Transferring over to Cincinnati for his final campaign, he put his name more in the national spotlight, as the AAC Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American, thanks to 136 combined stops, 20.5 of those for loss, nine sacks, four PBUs and a couple of forced fumbles. + Good thickness throughout his frame and plays big, but also can just slip through traffic in an odd fashion almost + Does well to step to the hip and rip through the reach of offensive linemen working up to him, to protect one side, And he’s gotten stronger at working through contact, to get his hands on the ball-carrier or crash through one half of guys, to create havoc in the back-field + Has some shocking contact balance and flexibility to contort his body and stay upright versus much larger bodies, consistently playing with sink in his stance to maximize that low center of gravity + Lining up on the edge, you can’t really ask a tight-end to take care of him in the run game, especially when he can shoot the C-gap and run down plays from the backside + I really like the way he plays with his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage when possible, along with using his hands and working around blockers scraping from the backside + Plus, when he sees a wrap-around pull or insert block in his gap, he accelerates into contact at the line of scrimmage, to not allow an extra gap to be created + I thought when he joined the Bearcats his diagnosing skills and willingness to beat ball-carriers to the spot allowed him to create a lot more negative plays + Has some legit hitting power, to bounce ball-carriers on their backside at impact, There’s very little churning of legs for opponents – he bangs them to the turf from the side as he arrives on an angle + Does well to ID targets in space with a quick peak, while mostly having his eyes on the quarterback, And there’s no overreaction to anything that happens to him really + Understands when the read he’s occupied with is dead and he can redirect, to take a second option + Can totally disrupt receivers/tight-ends stemming down the stems by banging them off balance + Will quickly close down that distance to the quarterback and lay the wood on them, if they don’t get rid of the ball rapidly, on bootlegs and rollouts + When Pace has space to work one-on-one against a guard, his burst and timing of hand-swipes can definitely give those guys problems + His ability to corner his rushes and work through contact from much larger bodies is impressive + Was already used on some loops from the inside, as part of Miami OH’s third-down pressure packages, At Cincinnati he was just lined up on the edge a lot more, where they used him for either responsibility on T-E twists or had him bail out from that spot + Overall, he’s just relentless with his effort in that regard and routinely got home to the quarterback – led all off-ball linebackers with 55 total pressures last season and had nine QB hits in week five alone + Was a menace rushing the passer one-on-one during Senior Bowl practices – his quick-twitch was on another level, as he routinely gave the running backs a little wiggle before contact and then beating them across their face – He’s an obvious outlier in terms of size, ranking in the 1st percentile in height (5’10” and ½) and 3rd percentile in arm length (30 ½), which will limit his ability to punch off blockers and finish tackles as consistently at the pro level – Wider bodies can cover him up, when able to climb straight up to him – When he actually has to open up and run with guys out to the perimeter, he’s not the quickest to stop or redirect as they do – Wasn’t really tasked with any true man-coverage or asked to carry guys down the middle at Miami of Ohio or Cincinnati – Officially charged with a passer rating of 140.2 allowed, being charged with two touchdowns and only forcing three incompletions Can anybody tell me what’s wrong with Pace, other than being short? Did anybody watch Malcolm Rodriguez at Oklahoma State and then the Lions as a rookie last year? Sure, the concerns that come with his measurements will only be enhanced against all the size in the NFL and some teams not have him on their board at all because he’s below their thresholds, but this kid can freaking play. He has ways of marginalizing his lack of height/length, with the way he dips underneath blockers and defeats the hands, along with how insanely sturdy he is to hold his ground between the tackles. I do believe some of the worries about what he can provide in coverage are legitimate, because he has less margin for error, especially when getting matched up with large tight-ends, but his ridiculous win rate as a pass-rusher makes me believe he can be a major asset in that regard on passing down. I do understand that I’m significantly higher than consensus, but he’ll be a special teams demon early on, to earn his opportunities to shine on defense. 2023.03.12 20:23 dealgad [Amazon] YOSUDA Folding Exercise Bike - 3 in 1 Upright Indoor Cycling Bike and Recumbent Exercise Bike, with 52% off, for $144.49
2023.03.12 20:00 Aazardian 8x24ft Modular Tiny House 192sq ft to 24x24ft, 3 Bedroom, 1152sq ft, Design Notes
| More Condensed Design/Cost Notes Post EDIT: "Over my paygrade" / "Armchair general" issues (AKA: Stuff I dont understand well enough) - Custom Builders... please confirm this is sane, if "drawn up, correctly" (over my head)
- "Sketchup" Masters... Please help me with a 3D model/Floor ("breakdown" too advanced for me)
- HVAC/Electrician/Plumber Trades people... can you assist with "your stuff" if I have a blueprint?
- I will release/share all for free, to make it easier to get a full set of drawings "signed/approved"
// Designed specifically for, dignified, bootstrap housing. Meeting/Exceeding Canadian Building Codes - Original EVO Prototype design by VETS365, modified to 192sq ft (min is 188.4sq ft) R40 (& R60 SKILLION roof) with code compliant bathroom (32sq ft) & in unit laundry to meet Canadian OBC
- Truly NOT an eyesore and its dignified
- CHEAPEST: On 0.0666 (repeated) acre (1/15) "Sub-Lot" per home (44ft x 66ft each, see below)
Looks very nice, BUT: American, so its only 8ft x 20ft & unwinterized. Unlike described 8ft x 24ft More size correct, but ugly. 3/8th of Awning/Porch enclosed like our 386* (in our case, 2'8\"x11\" = 2.44sq ft, for 386.44sq ft) Design Family Name: "CAN-ECON-MODATE" Sizes in sq ft: 192, to 1152 - 576 is the "Sweet Spot" IMHO
- Measurements ideal for 4x8 OBS sheets & Insulation. Also ideal for 2x4 & 2x6 lumber
- Aim is for minimal "on-site cutting" to be required
- 384 unit (8x24ft, 2 floor) must have 1sq ft "Entry Stoop Dormer" PLUS moving full bathroom to 2nd floor, to equal 385sq ft+ minimum & the 193sq ft combined area for a 1 bedroom unit (Must alter blueprints)
- 384 unit (8x24ft, 2 floor) MUST BECOME 8x28ft & have an 1sq ft "Entry Stoop Dormer" + PLUS moving full bathroom to 2nd floor, to qualify as a 2 bedroom, to code, at 427sq ft+ & the 225sq combined area. BECOMES 448SQ FT (Must alter blueprints)
Total height, floor to ceiling, of 2 floor is 15'1", 1.5 floor is 13'8", 1 floor is 7'6.5" - An 8x24ft, 1.5 floor unit can be moved on road, as fully assembled, via normal truck & trailer)
- 12x12 1.5 floor, with 40% mezzanine loft (4x8), accessed by full stairs = 144 + 48 or 192
- (2-A) 8x24 / (2-B) 12x16 = 192 / 384 (needs 1sq ft extra lower floor, for 1 bedroom + den)
- 12x20 = 240 (too small/big) / 480 (just over "right" for 2 bed room)
- 16x16 = 256 (too small/big) / 512 (just over "right" for 3 bed room)
- 12x24 = 288 (too small/big) / 576 (needs 1sq ft extra for 4 bedroom)
- 16x20 = 320 (exactly "right" for 1 bed room) / 640
- 16x24 = 384 / 768
- 20x20 = 400 (just under "right" for 2 bed room) is max size of tiny house in Canada / 800
- 24x20 = 480 / 960
- 24x24 = 576 / 1152
Play on "Can Accommodate", as: CAN = Canada, ECON = Economical, Sanskrit "Modate" - "of eternal joy/satisfaction" Reasonable universal Floorplan (Standard + Mobility Impaired, "wet wall" is top-right corner) Universal Floorplan (Standard + Mobility Impaired) 192sq ft, including 32sq ft bathroom (mech room loft overhead) All-In-One Kitchenette with Laundry Combo: - 30" AIO + 24" Laundry Combo in 8ft wide units
- 48" AIO + 24" Laundry Combo in 16ft wide units (30" + 4 burner Range with Oven & larger cabinet)
- 54" AIO + 24" Laundry Combo in 22ft wide units (48" + full height fridge/freezer & dishwasher)
Bathroom Layout & Lofts: (Bathroom: visualize as the 32sq ft example, below in post body) - SWAP: Move sink to toilet position, toilet repositioned between showetub and sink
- Enclosed mechanical loft, above bathroom, (adequate sq ft/access 900w Hot water, 900w Heatpump/AC)
- 76.8sq ft (or less) open mezzanine loft, above "tall side" of main room ("step ladder" accessible, railed, Storage area ONLY)
- Mobility Impaired: "Storage loft" area can accommodate an overhead lift, full length of dwelling
- Shown as: 45" doored "walk-in/sit-down" or 48" full "soaker" bathtub
- 24sq ft half-bathroom in 3 bedroom unit (768sq ft+)
Bathroom layout, with half-bathroom layout for 3 bedroom units Smallest realistic 0.5 Bath 8.75sq ft (NEEDS ACCORDION DOOR) Smallest \"realistic\" 0.5 Bathroom / \"Powder Room\", 8.75sq ft Modular Expansion (For nuclear families, with children) - see notes slightly below, of needing to swap 2 bedroom to 8x28ft
Two Floor - 2 Bedrooms & 1.5 Bathrooms - 448sq ft (Minimum for Family/145sq ft Great Room) - Room measurements are INTERIOR (Scale is slightly off)
- "Red Bar" = Enry Door
- The "0.5 bathroom" (smaller, upper floor), is optional (16ft wide units+)
- ?Is 12x20ft (480sq ft) a "better configuration" for a 2 floor, 2 to 3 bedroom 1.5 bath?
SHOWN: ONLY 27SQ FT FOR STAIRWELL & LANDING/HALLWAY! Two Floor - 1 bed + den (2nd bedroom) & 1 bath - 385sq ft+ To Scale - 384sq ft floorplan - need 193sq ft "combined area", roughly, by various local code "suggestions/guidelines"
- 384 unit (8x24ft, 2 floor) must be described as "1 bedroom + Den"
- Straight-run, 2'10" (860mm) wide (the code minimum), to one side stairwell, fits "best" IMHO
- Spiral type, "Bent L" or "U'ed" is NOT possible, IS MUCH TOO WIDE for 8ft units (5'8"+ wide)
- Under stairs area used as mechanical room
- ONLY 27SQ FT FOR STAIRWELL & LANDING "HALLWAY"!!!!
- 6.25sq ft (30"x30") is minimum landing/hallway size possible (12.5sq ft total)
- Thats a 2'6"x2 6" landing at top of stairs with doorways on 2 or 3 sides (& stair access on 4th side)
- 14.5sq ft is possible as a flex area: Closet(s) OR "Powder Room" bathroom
1 bedroom + Den (2nd bedroom) + 1 bath, layout / 385sq ft+ 75sq ft Bedroom "Alcove" ideal for, single over single bunkbed, with storage stairs single over single bunkbed, with storage stairs Double Wide, 16ft, & Triple Wide, 24ft, Units - Upper "LINEN CLOSET" area is removed as a "side ways" hallway corridor, joining modules
- On main floor "side ways" hallway corridor is direct below upper, even with stairwell landing
Lot Spacing: On a 1/15 Acre, or 44ftx66ft, "Sub-Lot" - >1500 inhabitants/km2. Single 24ftx24ft unit (1152sq ft), on 0.0666 acre (1/15) Sub-Lot (44ftx66ft)
- Side spacing is 10ft, each side: Enough for a standard 8'6" wide driveway/laneway (or carport)
- Front/Rear spacing is 21ft, each. backyard of 924sq ft, equal size front yard
BIGGEST unit (24ftx24ft) on a 1/15 acre lot (44ftx66ft lot) Ontario Building Code Considerations: - 384 unit (8x24ft, 2 floor) must have 1sq ft "Awning Overhang Dormer" to equal 385sq ft+
Please refer to current OBC, &/OR local building codes More Current OBC Additions Please refer to current OBC, &/OR local building codes - Area: 188.4sq ft is the absolute minimum
- Combined sleeping, living and dining areas and kitchen space 145sq ft
- Bathroom (sink, toilet & showebath). Could be as little as 32sq ft
- Laundry 11sq ft
ALSO, no bedroom unit may be under 256.4sq ft (or 331.4sq ft, if 2 bedroom): - Combined area requirement increased to 193sq ft to 225sq ft
- NO unit, with separate bedrooms, may have a main bedroom under 95sq ft
- Additional bedrooms at least 75sq ft
// / Lots of rough notes below here in post / / / / Dwelling info, notes, rough stuff At $50K on a $50K lot & 5yr fixed rate 1% loan = $1700/month - At 3x Dwellings allowed per lot (& fitting on a small lot), in Ontario, this would be roughly $1200/month
- Affordable/Survivable, for a minimum wage, part time worker = 30hweek (or $1,782.11 net)
- As a 1.5 floor, with 90sq ft+ (if we subtract mech loft) full loft, suitable as 1 bedroom (282 to 318sq ft, for a rough $2000/month). Ideal for married coupled without children yet (or moved out)
- Built as a 2 floor & "DUAL UNIT", side by side 16x24, suitable for a family of 4 (768sq ft, 3 bed/1 bath, for a rough $3000/month)
Minimizing monthly/long term cost of living (as low as $1000/month, for 60x months) You could subdivide 1 acre into 1/5 acre lots, 3 dwellings each = 15 units per acre (44ft x 66ft each) - that is 0.0666 (repeated) acres each dwelling, if 3x per 1/5 acre (0.2 acres) lot
- A 60amp/1020watt solar grid tie-in, would likely MORE than power home (95% of the year)
- That's 1300kWh/year+ of electrical power production (or 19500kWh/year+ per acre!)
- Grid Tie-in's need no battery bank (lowering cost/maintenance. 1x panel, 1x controller, 1x inverter)
- LNG/Propane is "cheap", but you cant generate it & is market dependent (poor long term value)
OBS, isn't that, "cheap"? YES, but in "7/16 marine", its acceptable+ (for use in "well made" SIP): YES, Plywood would be better, but would bloom costs VASTLY (the majority of lumber cost is the 7/16 OBS at 4x8ft) - 8' wide x 24' long, 7'7" inside ceiling low side, 12ft skillion peak on high side, 192sq ft
- TWICE the square footage of Navy officers quarters (or same size as captains cabin), on ship
- 3.5'x24' loft, 98sq ft (not counted) on high skillion side 66sq ft mechanical loft/32sq ft storage loft
- I estimate "sealed shell" as approx. $9000 in costs, including a monolithic slab (minus labor cost)
- HVAC/E&P/Fixtures would run $9000 in costs
- Exterioexterior finishing, furniture & the starter kits as little as $2000
- IMHO: Finished Whiteboard 1/4" Plywood/Grey Laminate flooring/White surface & tile/Bright Primary Exterior Paint is cheap & classic/clean/looks "big"
- $20000, roughly, per unit (Less if built in bulk, like 10 units), PLUS labor costs
Lofts: - A 2-floor is possible, moving bedroom and bathroom to (132sq ft+) 2nd floor.. sleeping lofts / mezzanines are just not cost effective by the OBC rules (10% walled/40% railed, of sq ft, max)
- Best split to mechanical (rear larger, no user typical access), Front Storage (smaller, "no man") user accessible via step stool/hand hold, not intended for "occupation" (do not stand on)
Solo unit (most dignified), 5plex unit (25K BTU/wall/slab share), 10plex (50K BTU/wall/slab share) possible Building materials for each unit can be flat packed in a 4'x8' 4ft tall shipping units for roadway delivery/portability. A 20 foot semi-trailer could haul 10 of these units where needed and erected by as few 2 labors, in as little as a day (2x workers = 1 unit/day), even without power tools. - You could move materials needed for one on a 8x4ft HF trailer & "RangeDakota" series pickup
- 1195lbs pickup load + 1195lbs (lighter) 8x4 HF trailer load = 2390lbs on a 7495lbs pickup tow
OBC Note: Electrical & Plumbing pathing are pre routed in the SIP, installed by a skilled laborer, and signed off on by licensed trades person (one electrician and one plumber per site, to approve work) Materials (basic shell/interior unfinished + approx): - Concrete (3.7cu yards, at 6" deep/12" footing) / Concrete foundation blocks (equivalent for footprint)
- 150x: 2x6 (8ft)
- 20x: 2x4 (8ft)
- 80x OBS 7/16 (4x8ft, marine)
- Construction Adhesive (Polyurethane, InterioExterior, Waterproof, 825 ml - 12 Pack)
- 100sq ft R12 Fiberglass insulation (sound batt, only for interior section of bathroom wall)
- 1800sqft R17.5 Rigid insulation (glued to R35, and R52.5)
- 1000sq ft R5ci Cladding Insulation (R35 + R5ci + Sheathing = R43+/R52.5 + R5ci + Sheathing = R60+)
- Various: nails/screws/silicon, "barrier", appox. 250sq ft os singles (skillion, gable is 425sq ft)
- 2x windows 3x3 (slidelock), 1x window 1.5x1.5 (bathroom egress/lock)
- one 32" exterior door (security port/bolt) & one 30" pocket door (interior, safety lock)
Small Notes: (I assume "cold" version, not "wet" version, on monolithic slab) - Foundation: I would suggest at least monolithic slab in cold climates (Canada), Local code in wet
- Framing: Exterior 2x6 R40 7/16" OBS-SIP / Interior wall (bathroom) 2x4 R12 7/16" OBS-SIP
- Roof: 2x6 R60 7/16 OBS-SIP SKILLION (cheapeeasier) left right, Minimal Slope: 1in4 to 1in6
- Kitchen: 30" Combo Kitchenette (2 burnesink/fridge/freezecabinet) with stand and 24" vaporless laundry combo (height match + counter top), 36"x24" over counter MDF cupboard.
- Kitchen Extra: 500w Microwave, 1L kettle, 2 person utensil/dish set (+ starter towels/cleaning set)
- Bathroom: 32sqft, 3 piece, 3/4 unit (coach sink, shower stall, toilet) + starter towels/cleaning set
- Heat/Cool: Units are ductless, internal split 5000BTU heat-pump/AC (in mechanical room loft)
- Water: 10 Gallon Hot water Tank (also in mechanical room loft). Assuming "city hook-ups"
- All other "mechanical" in rear loft (not standard access to dweller)
- Standard access loft, smaller, storage in the front of dwelling (could fit a few bikes, storage chests)
- Included furniture: Tri-fold Twin XL sofa/bed, 24"x12" wall hang folding table with 2 chairs, 60"x36" (4 drawe1 full height 1/2 door) MDF Wardrobe, 26" bicycle
// Power Use No unit over 900 Watts (Avg user cost: $50/month) NOTE: All units are 115V operation with pre-installed cords include 3-pronged cords for easy setup (normal outlet) & ETL/ETL-C/CE/EnergyStar certified - Care taken to allow: can of beans/cup of tea to BAKING COOKIES or ROASTING A MINI CHICKEN
30" unit "Kitchenette Combo" detailed *(* requiring separate 12" space"landing" cook top side) - Both the cooktop (12 amps) and refrigerator (1.3 amps)
- Includes a 5 3/4" 600W front element and 7" 900W rear element
- 322.0kWh/year, 3.2 cu.ft. ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator, with 0.6 cu.ft freezer compartment
- 13"x11" (7.5"D) sink with 2.93cu.ft. storage cabinet below
24" Combo Laundry: 2.7 cu. ft. All-In-One Ventless WasheDryer detalied: - 90kWh/year USA Solo user rated (430kWh/year "Average Canadian Family" rating)
- its 900w in highest power "dryer" mode
5000BTU Heatpump/AC mini-split (indoor unit), 2 zone - 500w AC / 900w Heatpump, dual zone thermostat
- Minimum note: 400w AC / 720W Heatpump
10 Gallon, 150PSI, Hotwater Tank - 900w
- Minimum note: 7 gallon, 720w, to do a hot wash and have 1 shower (same time period)
0.6cu.ft. Microwave Oven - 500w output (701w input). Sold as IGENIX 500w/5a, the meter doesn't lie (& its their cheapest one!)
- Minimum note: special conversion of standard 600w unit to 5a, 120v/240v & 320w (draws 449w)
- Neither has "turn table", or power hungry motor that runs it
1.0 Liter, Kettle - 490w (said 500w, but meter tests it to max out at 490w draw)
- Food Grade Silicon Collapsing! (its tiny!)
- Minimum note: 0.6L at 460w = 5min boil
0.6cu.ft Toaster Over (Dash Mini) - 550w (IT COOKED A WHOLE, MINI, CHICKEN & BAKED 10X COOKIES!)
- Minimum note: is minimum watts
Lighting: - 5x Recessed Pots: 7w LED (4x main, 1x bathroom)
- 3x 9w narrower beam LED (vanity mirror + kitchen work area)
- 1x 11w LED Exterior on motion sensor + switch
- Assume 2x lamps (bedside & desk), using 9w LED bulbs
- Minimum note: "night light" 2w, area 5w, work 7w, read 9w, security 11w
Suggested: (media center, digital communication. add $28/ month unlimited min/Unlimited 15mbps) - 5w (18w full draw) Mini PC, with basic keyboard/mouse
- 32" 60w LED 1080P HDTV/DVD Combo, (with VGA/DVI/Composite/HDMI)
- Android Smart Phone (LG G7 is $50 overstock, and the most power efficient smartphone, 5w/2a)
- TP-Link TL-WR802N router (min/max usage: 0.85 watts), use 7.4 kWh/year. Like $1 to run per year
- Minimum note: all are minimum watts, of "current" devices
// Costs Assuming $50K Lot, $20K Materials/Fittings/Finishing's, $20K Labor, & $10K Other (permits/transport) - Lot of 1 Acre, with "city hookup" wateseweelectric service & paved access (assumed "town lot")
- Divided in to 1/5 acre lots per dwelling (possibly with 3 units on each) or 1/5 a "Football Field"
- As low as $1000/month, for 60x months
- if $100/month was charged as "interest", this home would payback 110%+ ($56K, on $50K cost)
- $890K return on $800K invested per acer, over 60x months
At $50K on a $50K lot & 5yr fixed rate 1% loan = $1700/month - At 3x Dwellings allowed per lot (& fitting on a small lot), in Ontario, this would be roughly $1200/month
- Further division, of above, but 1 acre > 5x 1/5 acres > 3x dwellings each, about $1000/month
- Affordable/Survivable, for a minimum wage, part time worker = 30hweek (or $1,782.11 net)
Housing for so little, for Veterans that gave us so much - Ignore "NON-HANDICAP" floor planning, I have a much more sensible/safe one
- Laundry combo unit is on hot plate kitchenette side (to space hot plate 24"+ from wall)
From VETS365, Serving Those Who Served Us. OP Modified (table/chairs white, but image is woodgrain) Missing MDF Dresser, Cupboard & Wardrobe/Wall Unit, (described, not pictured elsewhere) - YES! (BEFORE YOU ASK), all units/fixtures/appliances/furniture have a "BLACK" option
- Wardrobe "double duties" as "Entertainment/TV Stand", Table "doubles" as "work desk", dresser "doubles" as "night table", Futon "doubles" as bed & sofa. there is no "coffee table"
(see text for dimensions) They are same shade/manufacture, BUT its a poor OP composite image 30" Kitchenette + 24" Laundry/Workspace Concept (Cupboard 24" above, bottom equal shelf top) - All-In-One kitchenette uses 3x standard household outlets (NOT a 50 Amp Range Receptacle)
- Laundry counter top height equal, with protective cover, "doubles" as prep space/landing
- Mentioned appliances Top shelf, Cleaning under sink, dishes and can/dry goods in cupboard
- 2nd 30"x15"x12" cupboard, (above kitchenette shelf) would help mitigate tight storage
Poorly made OP composite image, cupboard TOO LOW Missing Flooring/Sheathing (described, not pictured elsewhere) clean! CHEAP! has the added effect of \" area looking bigger\", easier with \"trim rib\" every 4ft Missing Tile (For backsplashes & in bathroom, described, not pictured elsewhere) clean! CHEAP! Glossy for slight reflection = \"area looks bigger\" // Is 32sq ft a decent bathroom? IMHO: you can take a full bath (if opt'ing for bathtub), decent area to dry, lots of leg room - 30" pocket doors do wonders for small bathrooms/closets (a lot like an exterior door opening "out")
- As pictured, BUT: We have a pocket door, corner coach sink/cabinet, shower stall & Our floors are GREY, with a WHITE cabinet (green in a bathroom? why?)
Real 32sq ft bathroom with full size bathtub, sink & toilet. // Remember to channel SIP for Electrical/Plumbing Services Ideally "Service Location", "Service Transit", & "Service Absent" for "Universal Panels" PUR (I believe its real name is "XPS") is strong enough for "Cam & Lock" - IMHO Cam/Lock setup is only acceptable for fast "Measure Twice, Cut Once" placement, before 3 standard framing nails (per side/top/bottom) are used to firmly secure AFTER confirmation
simple SIP diagram, but you get the idea The General Rule of Thumb for Outlet Spacing - Receptacles are needed in every room of a home such that no point on a wall is over 6′ from an outlet. This means that you need an outlet within 6′ of a doorway or fireplace. A long wall, however, may have up to 12′ between outlets.
From 1990 NEC “210.52 Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlets. - (c) In kitchen and dining areas of dwelling units a receptacle outlet shall be installed add each counter space wider than 12 inches. Receptacles shall be installed so that no point along the wall line is more than 24 inches, measured horizontally from a receptacle outlet in that space. Island and Peninsular counter tops 12 inches or wider should have at least one receptacle for each 4 feet of countertop. Counter top spaces is separated by range tops, refrigerators, or sinks shall be considered a separate countertop spaces. Receptacles rendered inaccessible by appliances fastened in place or appliances occupying dedicated space shall not be considered as these required outlets.”

2023.03.09 22:51 DylanSchreiner General Strength Program
FOR THOSE THAT NEED IT
THERE IS A REST DAY and EASIER DAYS. Read On.
EDIT: Clarification changes.
EDIT: Added Headstand & Handstand holds on Friday.
EDIT: Changed Reverse fly to Lock 3 reverse flys
Weekday | Main Lift | Accessories |
Monday | A: [Sumo Squat]/ B: [Back Squat] | Neck bends & twists; Pec fly; Pull-over; Abs; Curls; Farmer's walks; Wrist bends, lateral & twists |
Tuesday | OHP | P-Dip shoulders far far forward; Aladdin squat; Calf raise; Tib raise; Pec fly; Lu raise |
Wednesday | A: [Deadlift]/ B: [Jefferson Curl] | Calf raise; Tib raise; Abs |
Thursday | Bench | Front raise vary grip; Standing pull-over; Aladdin squat; Wrist bends, lateral & twist; Gripper |
Friday | A: [Bent Press]/ B: [Reverse Grip Bent Row] | Farmer's walk; Lu raise; Lock 3 reverse flys; Hangboard; Headstand hold or regression/ progression; Handstand hold or regression/ progression |
Saturday | Front Squat | Power clean; Lu raise; Wrist bends, lateral & twist; Lock 3 reverse flys; Calf raise; Tib raise |
Sunday | A: [Weighted Chin-up]/ B: [Weighted Pull-up] Chest to Bar | Muscle snatch, Upright row, A: [Standing OH tri-ext]/ B: [Reverse grip front raise]; Gripper |
DETAILS:
- Start with a Weight you can complete all sets with, and also do 3 - 5 Extra reps [Main Lift] or 5 - 10 Extra reps [Accessories] on the Last Set with.
- 5x5 Main Lift, for Accessories it's 3x25 or 3xF. Deadlift is 3x5 unless you come from a Sprint background with high anaerobic capacity.
- Last Set is "As many reps as possible" to failure if you have good anaerobic conditioning, or 1 Rep in Reserve if you don't for Main Lift & Accessories.
- Some Lifts alternate between A and B each week.
- Progress the Weight when the last set is 11 total reps for the Main Lift, 38 reps for Accessories.
- REST DAY changes each week starting with Wednesday, then next week it's Thursday, et cetera.
- 2 Days after Rest Day is 'slight DELOAD'; 90% of normal working weight for Main Lift & Accessories. Last Set ends when sets x reps is complete or 2 Reps in Reserve, whichever is more.
- 3 Days after the Rest Day is a kind of 'SPEED day'; weight is 50% working weight. Main lift & Accessories. Move the weight fast as possible, descent should be controlled though. Last Set ending when sets x reps is complete or weight slows down, whichever is first.
- 8th Week all working weight is HALF; pump work for active recovery. Wednesday off.
- Walk 30 minutes before & after the workout.
- Warm-up sets more volumous and working weight slightly less If you come from a conditioning background and want more conditioning.
- 'Cooldown' sets after the 5x5 or 3x25 if you come from a relevant conditioning background. 60% and less of working weight.
- 20 minutes of active dynamic mobility (not passive stretch) exercises before Main Lift warm-up sets, and 10 minutes of cardio/ pump work after it. Example: 'Shoulder Dislocates' before OHP, then light Battle Ropes or Kettlebell swings or Lu raises (or OHP with ~5 lb dumbbells). Example: Dynamic squat mobility stuff and Bike pedalling backwards before Squat, about the same thing afterwards.
- Headstand & Handstand hold should be higher volume with lower intensity; so use a regression.
- IF IT'S TOO MUCH then make 4 Days after the Rest Day a SLIGHT DELOAD day, with 90% of normal working weight for Main Lift & Accessories. Last Set ends when sets x reps is complete or 2 Reps in Reserve, whichever is more.
- IF IT'S STILL TOO MUCH then make 5 Days after the Rest Day a 'SPEED' day, using 50% working weight. Move the weight fast as possible, descent should be controlled though. Last Set ending when sets x reps is complete or weight slows down, whichever is first.
- IF YOU'RE Extremely BEGINNER then make 1 Day after the Rest Day a DELOAD day, with 60% of normal working weight for Main Lift & Accessories. Last Set 4 Reps in Reserve or a full set, whichever is less.
- The location of these Modified days should be based on the MOVING REST DAY.

2023.03.09 21:53 fierylady 3 round mock w/explanations and trades
I did this as if Rodgers went to the Jets (for a 2024 4th rounder and 2025 2nd rounder that can become a 1st) and Lamar to the Raiders (despite their denials). Also McGlinchey to the Bears seems pertinent. I didn't describe the in-draft trades to save space, so I hope they're obvious.
1ST ROUND:
(1) Carolina Panthers (From Chicago): Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida - Yeah I’m not buying all those reports coming out of the combine that they’re lukewarm on Richardson. Feels a little too timely, pointed and matter-of-fact. Nah, I say they nab a vet like Brissett or Bridgewater, keep Darnold while they blood AR. Reich made Carson Wentz look like a legitimate MVP candidate (in Philly at least), I think he’ll jump at the chance to develop Richardson.
(2) Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud, QB, Ohio State - No one’s had a better two months than Stroud, from his performance against Georgia to his throwing at the combine. He’s been the biggest winner to me so far (we all knew Richardson was gonna test like a freak).
(3) Arizona Cardinals: Will Anderson, EDGE, Alabama - Easy pick.
(4) Indianapolis Colts: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky - I just can’t envistion a world where a guy like Ballard drafts a guy like Young. Not unless Irsay forces him to (which yeah, is in the realm of possibility). Everyone says Steichen is gonna be all over Richardson and I agree, he’s probably interested, but if so he’s probably interested in Levis for a lot of the same reasons. Levis isn’t the athlete Richardson is (who is?), but he’s at least as good as Daniel Jones or Josh Allen. Given he also worked with Justin Herbert and Phil Rivers, I think Steichen can work wonders with Levis.
(5) Seattle Seahawks (From Denver): Jalen Carter, iDL, Georgia - Seattle more so than a lot of other teams doesn’t have a problem drafting players with character concerns. They drafted Malik McDowell in the 2nd knowing full well he was a head case, Bruce Irvin had been arrested for burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, and destruction of property before ever turning pro, and Frank Clark had been dismissed from Michigan after a domestic violence charge. Granted they’ve backed off since the McDowell miss but the other two worked out, and Carter’s red flags aren’t the bad person kind as much as they are the immature and stupid kind. I could easily see them talking themselves into it, Carter’s a major fit on their roster.
(6) Detroit Lions (From LA Rams): Bryce Young, QB, Alabama - I think Detroit would love to trade out of this spot but the since the Raiders, who would have picked next, have added Lamar Jackson in this exercise and since the Ravens will convince everyone they're going with Huntley for at least a year, I think they’ll find it difficult. So rather than take a position of greater need they say fuck it and go BPA. I was advocating for them to do this back in 2020 when Miami and the Chargers both called Detroit’s bluff and they took Okudah rather than Tua or Herbert. They should have taken one of the QBs and either held one of those teams hostage, or just kept the QB. But the FO was in win-now mode and they chickenshitted out. The current FO has no such problems. Let the bidding begin, or keep the QB.
(7) Baltimore Ravens (From Las Vegas): Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech - Pretty much pure BPA but also adding pieces to the DL has never been something the Ravens have shied away from.
(8) Atlanta Falcons: Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia - I would like to mock them a larger edge defender to line up across from Ebiketie and/or Carter but I don’t think they’ll be able to resist the local coach’s dream with a get-off almost a tenth of a second faster than Micah Parsons or Von Miller. They’ll figure out a way to make it work.
(9) Chicago Bears (From Carolina): Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson - To me the Bears approach should be to hoard as much talent as possible, almost regardless of position. Yeah they need help along the OL but it’s much worse on the DL IMO (especially after bringing in McGlinchey), and to me Murphy is a level above the OL in the class. Skoronski’s close, but as I see him as guard only I’m going with positional value here as well.
(10) Pittsburgh Steelers (From Philadelphia): Peter Skoronski, iOL, Northwestern - So I had the Bears pass on him but the Steelers pounce. Partly because the Steelers are closer to contending and only have a few glaring holes to fill, but also because their FO has traditionally shown they don’t put much stock in positional value (Najee, Devin Bush, Pouncey, Minkah via trade). Now granted Khan might be different from Colbert, but he came up under him. Until I see otherwise, I expect he’ll show a lot of the same tendencies.
(11) Tennessee Titans: Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio State - No reason to belabor this one, right? Pretty much everyone mocks them a tackle.
(12) Houston Texans (From Cleveland): Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State - I know he’s a little superfluous with Metchie but now that they’ve drafted Stroud he makes a lot more sense. The two made magic together in Columbus and while JSN has been typecast as slot only, I’m not sure that’s exactly true. He’s big enough to hang outside unlike a lot of other slot receivers, and Justin Jefferson had the same issues coming out. I don’t expect JSN to run as fast as him but you never know, that Ohio State track is blazing. Plus Metchie is a complete unknown coming off the illness, it’s shouldn’t stop Houston from adding what I think is one of the two or three highest-floor players in the class.
(13) New York Jets: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia - He’s moving on up, I wouldn’t be completely shocked if he surpassed Johnson Jr. as OT1 (or Skoronski, if you still consider him a tackle). The Jets have to keep throwing resources at OL until they fix it.
(14) New England Patriots: Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State - Of all of the outrageously oversized tackles to come around the past few years (Becton, Trent Brown, Orlando Brown, Ma’afala), I think Jones is the best of the bunch. It looks awkward sometimes but he really understands what works best for his body and what scenarios to avoid. This is a little early compared to most mocks but this is the Pats we’re talking about, they’ve never cared about what we think. It’s why they’re so hard to mock for. But they’ve shown an ability to work with guys like this from all their years with Trent Brown, who I don’t expect to be back.
(15) Green Bay Packers: Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia - Now that he’s tested into the tier Gutekunst typically picks from, I can’t imagine them not utterly loving him. They’ve held on to Marcedes Lewis for years now for his blocking ability, and Washington is like the cyborg version of Lewis. Plus with Tonyan a FA and Deguara more of a FB than TE, they could really stand to add bodies to the room.
(16) Washington Commanders: Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon - A little later than most have the first CB coming off the board but that’s how the board fell. Lucky Commanders.
(17) Philadelphia Eagles (from Pittsburgh): Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas - I know Eagles fans are gonna hammer me for this one, there’s no way Howie goes RB in the 1st. I don’t know about that. There’s this nugget I read in an article, I forget where, that had the scuttlebutt being he wouldn’t take one at 10 but after a trade down where he added more picks he might be amenable. He took a NT in the 1st last year, another low-value position, and now we’re getting those reports where Sirianni prefers more of a bell cow back. Plus Bijan and Hurts would be devastating together. I’m not saying it’ll happen for sure, but I think Howie will give serious consideration to it, especially after a trade down.
(18) Detroit Lions: Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State - I know Lions fans probably prefer Witherspoon but I just don’t think he’s gonna meet Brad’s athletic and size thresholds. Or if he does he’s gonna come much closer to missing them than Porter Jr., who checked in with a 9.62 RAS. Plus he played and thrived against much better competition. And that length! Aaron Glenn’s gonna love that length.
(19) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois - It looks like the Bucs are gonna lose a few players from their defensive backfield and Licht has always been a proponent of the “you can never have too many DBs” ideal.
(20) Seattle Seahawks: Lukas Van Ness, EDGE, Iowa - Seattle’s front 7 was dire last year. They had some young guys who could still develop (Boye Mafe, etc…), but I think they’re best bet is to keep throwing bodies at it. So after adding Carter at 5, I have them adding Van Ness. He can fit into that Michael Bennett big edge role they’ve always liked (and yes I know the scheme is different now, but the affinity for big edges likely hasn’t changed).
(21) Los Angeles Chargers: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU - Sometimes the boring pick is the right pick.
(22) Baltimore Ravens: Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland - I know most Ravens fan want a WR, but I just think this is a really bad WR class and they’re not gonna go as high as we think (kind of like the QBs last year), and I wanted this mock to reflect that. I think anyone they add at WR with their next pick in the 3rd (foreshadowing) has a good chance to be as good as anyone added here. So instead I have them pivot to grab local boy and freaky tester Banks, who I kind of have as the last of a tier.
(23) Arizona Cardinals (From Minnesota): Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee - The run on tackles spooks the Cardinals who decide to move up to secure one. They need help everywhere but keeping Kyler upright has to be a priority.
(24) Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame - Personally I have both Musgrave and Kincaid ranked ahead of him but as I expect them to bring Engram back, what the Jags really need is a TE who can block as well as catch passes. Since Washington’s already off the board, Mayer is easily the best Y TE remaining.
(25) New York Giants: Joe Tippmann, iOL, Wisconsin - Like I said above in the Banks blurb, I think the receivers are gash and they’re gonna fall like the QBs last year, and I wanted to put that to the test in this mock. And Tippmann’s pre-draft process reminds me a lot of Frank Ragnow’s, where he was a 2-3rd rounder the whole time in the media then a few days before the draft you start to hear actually teams love him and he ends up going a lot higher. To me Tippmann is the slam-dunk top center prospect and he’d look great in NY.
(26) Dallas Cowboys: Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah - Mostly I’m ripping this off from Dane Brugler who mocked him here the other day and is really plugged-in with the Cowboys. There’s plenty of rumblings though that Jerruh wants to add offensive weapons, and it looks like Dalton Schultz is heading out the door.
(27) Buffalo Bills: Steve Avila, iOL, TCU - I’m sure a lot of you would prefer Torrence here and that’s fine too, I have them ranked really closesly. I just think Avila’s better on the move and more versatile, which gives him the nod in this spot.
(28) Cincinnati Bengals: Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State - Cam Taylor-Britt looks like a keeper but Eli Apple is meh average and a FA, Tre Flowers is a FA, and Chidobe Awuzie will be attempting to come back from a November ACL tear. This is a thin group. Forbes thickens it, despite his frame.
(29) New Orleans Saints (From San Francisco via Miami and Denver): Mazi Smith, iDL, Michigan - Once he fully tests he’s gonna eradicate some RAS DT records, the Saints have always loved their traits, and they’ve never been afraid to take a guy before consensus. Shy Tuttle and Onyemata are both FAs and it’s unlikely both are back.
(30) Detroit Lions (From Philadelphia): Adetomiwa Adebawore, iDL/EDGE, Northwestern - Lions’ GM Brad Holmes had never been afraid to go and get the guys he wants, and I really expect that to include Adebawore. I think he’s more likely to be the next Aaron Donald than Kancey (though let’s be honest, we’ll never see another AD), and Holmes was on the staff that drafted Donald. And he believes in interior pressure, he admitted as much when he drafted Levi Onwuzurike. That one hasn’t worked out due to injury, so it’s time to go back to the well.
(31) Kansas City Chiefs: Matthew Bergeron, OT/iOL, Syracuse - One of my favorite players in the draft, I was regularly grabbing him in the mid-2nd for my Lions on the simulators but I think everyone’s starting to come around now. And seeing as the Chiefs have no tackles, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense.
2ND ROUND:
(32) Pittsburgh Steelers (From Chicago): Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina - Cam answered a lot of the athletic concerns at the combine and he plays with an attitude I expect the Steelers will love.
(33) Houston Texans: Drew Sanders, LB/EDGE, Arkansas - The Texans need help everywhere, and after bolstering the offensive side of the ball in the 1st round, it’s time to flip over to the defense.
(34) Minnesota Vikings (From Arizona): Bryan Bresee, iDL, Clemson - I can’t in good conscience not go defense with the Vikings pick, and I really think Bresee will be a great fit on Brian Flores’s attacking scheme. With the possibility Dalvin Tomlinson moves on they could really use an interior attacker, and Bresee fits.
(35) Green Bay Packers (From Indianapolis): Keion White, EDGE/iDL, Georgia Tech - Once the big RAS superstar starts to fall down the board a little, the Packers pounce. He’s a great fit in Green Bay as he has the ability to play on the line in a 3-4 and also to flex outside (he’s more athletic than Enagabare). With Rashan Gary out for a good chunk of the year, Hollins likely gone, and Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed likely gone as well, a guy with the versatility to play everywhere will have a lot of appeal.
(36) Los Angeles Rams: Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State - Snead has never been shy drafting TEs (Everett in the 2nd, Higbee in the 4th, Hopkins in the 4th) and due to the depth of the class Musgrave is a better prospect than what is normally available. Higbee’s realistically only got one year left on his contract (and they could move on this offseason without much penalty if they wanted to), so it’s time to start grooming his replacement.
(37) Seattle Seahawks (From Denver): O’Cyrus Torrence, iOL, Florida - Torrence’s mini-fall has nothing to do with his ability and more to do with his niche skills. Any team that wants their guards to move is gonna have him lower on their boards which will probably hurt his stock overall. But in a phone booth there might not be a better guard in the class.
(38) Las Vegas Raiders: Cody Mauch, iOL, North Dakota State - He’s got centeguard versatility which I think will really appeal, he and Parham can fight it out to see who snaps the ball and the other can play guard.
(39) Chicago Bears (From Carolina): Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College - So finally another receiver, Flowers is actually my #2 guy behind Smith-Njigba but I don’t think he’ll go before Johnston. He may still be an amateur but he’s really a pro who’s ready to contribute right away, and I don’t think it’s a mystery that Fields needs more weapons.
(40) New Orleans Saints: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama - I know he gets comped to Kamara all the time but I think that’s a lazy comp. Kamara ran in the high 4.5s, Gibbs just blazed a 4.36. He’s not as big as Kamara and doesn’t have his contact balance either. They’re both great pass-catchers but that’s really the extent of the similarities to me. But with Kamara facing a suspension that could potentially last as long as the whole season, and with the rest of the RB room being just a little bit gash, Gibbs is a fit whether he’s Kamara 2.0 or not.
(41) Tennessee Titans: John Michael Schmitz, iOL, Minnesota - Yeah, the Titans really need to hammer their OL. I don’t know if Schmitz plays center or guard for them, but he’s an upgrade.
(42) Cleveland Browns: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee - I know the Browns really need defense more than offense, but the mini-fall of Hyatt sees them pivot. Plus there’s all the rumors about how they really want to open up the offense, and we know the FO wants a legitimate field-stretcher. They tried to go that route with Schwartz but it turns out he wasn’t legitimate at all. So they take a second crack at it.
(43) New York Jets: Brian Branch, S/NB, Alabama - It might seem shocking to see him fall this far but I’ve been mocking him in the 2nd for a couple of months now. Non-elite athletes with average measurables at low value positions always fall. He’s a glove-perfect fit for the Jets though and I expect we’ll be looking at years of borderline all-pro production.
(44) Atlanta Falcons: Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami - After AJ Terrell, who didn’t have his best season, the Falcons are a little thin at CB. Isaiah Oliver’s a free agent and Casey Heyward’s old and missed a good chunk of last year with an injury. He technically has one more year left on his contract but the Falcons could move on if they wanted.
(45) Indianapolis Colts (From Green Bay): Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State - Ballard loves his elite testers and Brents fits that. And he’s never been afraid to take them a little early either. Facyson is almost certainly on the way out and Gilmore might not have too many years left. Adding another CB makes a ton of sense.
(46) Philadelphia Eagles (From New England): Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma - You know Howie’s not coming out of this draft without attacking the lines a little. I love the way he stacks positions with talent, it allows him to be very flexible with the roster.
(47) Washington Commanders: McClendon Curtis, iOL/OT, Tennessee-Chattanooga - Curtis is one of those guy’s who will go way higher than we expect, much like his former teammate Cole Strange. He’s answered all of the pre-draft questions we had for him. The step up in competition at the Senior Bow, check. He got better every day. The size, check. 35-inch arms at 6’6, 324. That’s tackle size. And while the athleticism wasn’t off the charts, it was plenty good enough (8.37 RAS). I don’t know that it’s enough to keep him outside, but on the inside I expect him to be a badass.
(48) Philadelphia Eagles (From Detroit): Felix Anudike-Uzomah, EDGE, Kansas State - No surprise the Eagles are adding bodies to the DL, right?
(49) New England Patriots (From Pittsburgh via Philadelphia): Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State - The Pats needing receiver shouldn’t surprise anyone, but this receiver? Well did anyone think they were taking Tyquan Thornton in the 2nd last year? The Pats have a way of subverting our expectations. Also, Reed is awesome. This is about where I have him ranked personally.
(50) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee - I’m hearing a lot of noise right now that NFL teams like Hooker more than draft media does. There’s even a couple of anonymous scouts who have him graded above Levis and/or Richardson. I don’t know if it’ll be the Bucs, but some team is gonna believe they’re getting a top ten talent in the 2nd round at the most important postion in sports.
(51) Miami Dolphins: Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa - Much better fit for McDaniels offense than goner Gesicki was, I think he’s pretty underrated in this year’s class.
(52) Seattle Seahawks: Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA - The thunder to Walker’s lightning. The Seahawks often draft RBs high, even when it appears like they’ve already got it covered. And with so many picks they can afford to spend a couple on what many would call a luxury.
(53) Chicago Bears (From Baltimore): Tuli Tuipulotu, EDGE, USC - I know I had them go Murphy in the 1st but like I said when I talked about that, they have so many holes I think they should just keep adding the best talent (the Lions did this last year when they added Hutch in the 1st and Josh Paschal in the 2nd). And Tuipulotu brings more inside versatility than Murphy does IMO. It’s never a bad strategy to hammer both lines.
(54) Los Angeles Chargers: Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia - At a certain point a team is gonna look at what he brings athletically (9.67 RAS) and decide they can bring the best out of him. And while corner isn’t a dire need for the Chargers, Staley always wants as many DBs as possible and in a division with the Chiefs, that’s just good strategy. And if Ringo isn’t able to overcome some of his change of direction issues, I think he could make a superstar safety.
(55) Detroit Lions (From Minnesota): Devon Achane, RB/WR, Texas A&M - You see that “/WR” in his byline? That’s the key to this pick for me. Otherwise there’s no way I think the Lions would go RB this early. But you know what other college RB was 5’8, 190 pounds and ran essentially a 4.3 flat? Tyreek Hill. And he wasn’t noted for his receiving ability either. When I heard Achane and Gibbs stuck around after the televised portion of the combine to do WR drills, my mind started to alight with ideas of Tyreek 2.0. The Lions like to be creative with Ben Johnson and Achane and Jameson Williams could potentially be a major headache for DCs.
(56) Jacksonville Jaguars: Calijah Kancey, iDL, Pittsburgh - This is another guy I think draft media is waaaaay higher on than NFL teams. You remember a couple of years back when Milton Williams set all kinds of DT testing records (9.94 RAS at DT)? Well he didn’t go until the mid-3rd. Now Kancey’s tape is a lot better but Williams was also 6’3 with 31.5 inch arms. Kancey’s 30.6 inch arms are all-time outlier territory, and that’s gonna be below a lot of team thresholds, no matter how much their GM likes his tape. In fact Baalke is typically a height-weight-speed guy himself so maybe Kancey’s off his board altogether. If not though this would be good value at a position of need.
(57) New York Giants: Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee - Along with Reed one of the more underrated WRs in the draft. Before he was hurt he was regularly dominating the best defenses the SEC had to offer. As his first year back from injury I basically throw last year out. In previous mocks I’ve had the Giants trade for Tee Higgins but now that it seems he’s not going anywhere, well why not take the Cincy GM’s advice and find their own?
(58) Dallas Cowboys: Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson - I’m pretty sure the Cowboys are about to lose Van Der Esch and while there’s some moderately promising depth with Jabril Cox, Damone Clark and maybe Devin Harper, it’s a terribly inexperienced unit and certainly not one that can be relied on.
(59) Buffalo Bills: Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M - Pretty simple, they’ve lost a lot at safety so they end Johnson’s mini-slide here.
(60) Cincinnati Bengals: Jordan Addison, WR, USC - Some of you will call this an overreaction to his mediocre testing but I’ve been low on him throughout the process. I’ve never mocked him in the first, and while this is maybe a half-round slide for him, I think it makes sense given - at least to an extent - he’s not who we thought he was. But the Bengals need to start preparing for life without Tyler Boyd if they intend to keep Higgins, Chase and Burrow, so adding Addison now and easing him in is smart.
(61) Carolina Panthers (from San Francisco): D.J. Turner, CB, Michigan - Part of this is value, I don’t think there’s any way Turner falls out of the 2nd round (and could go as high as the 1st), but also because I believe the Panthers have a pretty dire need for more DBs. Horn’s great but under Evero they’ll have six DBs on the field far more often than before, and Donte Jackson might not be back for awhile (and Henderson and Taylor might kinda suck). Turner’s a good fit cause you can play him both inside and out, blitz him (which Evero absolutely will do), and just generally allow him to create havoc.
(62) Philadelphia Eagles: Eli Ricks, CB, Alabama - It’s kind of gone under the radar just how good Ricks has been when he’s played. The problem, of course, is why didn’t he play more? A legit question teams are gonna have to get to the bottom of during the pre-draft process. But he could be a total steal if it turns out Saban was just being an overbearing ogre.
(63) Kansas City Chiefs: Blake Freeland, OT, BYU - Too high? Based on the tape maybe so. He has some real struggles with power. But long, athletic tackles never, ever last, and the Chiefs have no tackles as of this moment. Well they drafted one in the 1st but you know what I mean. As of the moment you’re reading this, they don’t have a single tackle .
3RD ROUND:
(64) Chicago Bears: Keeanu Benton, iDL, Wisconsin - So yeah, I have Chicago hammering their DL. I know a lot of mocks have them going OL and certainly I was open to that too, but 1) the board didn’t fall the right way and I didn’t want to force it, and 2) I don’t think their OL is as bad as everyone thinks. Teven Jenkins is a bona fide stud guard, Braxton Jones looks like a total steal at LT, and Whitehair is still productive. I have them signing McGlinchey to play RT then at the other guard spot you can roll with Leatherwood or find another mid-round guard.
(65) Houston Texans: Karl Brooks, iDL, Bowling Green - The Texans need to get more pressure from everywhere on their line, and that happens to be Brooks’s strength.
(66) Arizona Cardinals: Luke Wypler, C, Ohio State - Project “Protect Kyler Murray” continues.
(67) Denver Broncos (From Indianapolis): Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland - Polarizing prospect but this feels like the right spot for a guy like him: great athlete but questionable tape. The Broncos certainly need the help upfront.
(68) Denver Broncos: Chandler Zavala, iOL, North Carolina State - One of my favorite prospects in the draft and another dire need, and the 3rd is generally where you start to see guys from further down the consensus mock board start to go.
(69) Los Angeles Rams: Will McDonald, EDGE, Iowa State - I think the league is gonna like him a little less than we do. He’s got a different build for an edge and he’s older, and his production wasn’t always up to snuff. But the Rams have succeeded with a similarly skinny edge in Leonard Floyd, so they won’t hesitate to turn in the card for McDonald.
(70) Las Vegas Raiders: B.J. Ojulari, EDGE, LSU - I expect there to be pretty great value at edge in this class with 2nd rounders getting pushed into the 3rd and so forth. Here, the Raiders benefit. He'll fit with Crosby and Chandler Jones to form a fierce rotation.
(71) New Orleans Saints: Zach Harrison, EDGE, Ohio State - Let the edge run continue! This is the exact sort of edge the Saints like. Big, strong and fast. They may lose Davenport this offseason and Jordan’s getting up there, adding to the room makes sense.
(72) Tennessee Titans: Derick Hall, EDGE, Auburn - Four edges in a row! It looks like the Titans are jettisoning Dupree and Landry’s coming off injury, they really need more help. Hall’s strength-based game should work well opposite Landry and Vrabel and Co are gonna love his leadership and personality.
(73) Houston Texans (From Cleveland): Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina - Hard to imagine him this high a month ago but he’s had one of the best pre-draft processes of anyone. Maybe the best.
(74) New York Jets: Trey Palmer, WR, Nebraska - For a couple of reasons. 1) I think he’s been mocked too low all offseason. Guys with his size and athletic ability don’t last in the draft. They just don’t. And 2) His fit on the outside clearing out for Wilson and Moore to do work in the middle. An outside receiver who’s also a deep threat (unlike the soon to be released Corey Davis) will work wonders in New York, especially with Aaron slinging them the ball.
(75) Atlanta Falcons: Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati - Reuniting with his former QB Ridder. The Falcons are loaded with big, freaky pass-catchers. What they need now is a little electric guy to take advantage of all the space.
(76) New England Patriots (From Carolina): Jordan Battle, S, Alabama - The one thing we can say with some level of certainty about the Pats draft strategy is that Bill loves his Bama players. And with McCourty & Phillips getting older it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they brought in another body.
(77) Miami Dolphins (From New England): Sean Tucker, RB, Syracuse - Seems like a perfect fit to me for the one-cut-and-go ZBS scheme the Dolphins run. For Tucker to get the most out of his career, this is the sort of spot he needs to go. Mitigates his questionable vision and underscores his speed.
(78) Green Bay Packers: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina - Finally a Randall Cobb replacement that will hopefully stick. They’ve got the outside guys from last year’s draft.
(79) Indianapolis Colts (From Washington): Gervon Dexter, iDL, Florida - Another height weight speed guy for Ballard (9.69 RAS), he can learn from DeForest Buckner for a little bit before eventually replacing him if all goes well.
(80) Pittsburgh Steelers: Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa - I won’t do a mock this offseason where I don’t send Campbell to the Steelers. Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Jack Campbell. He already looks like a Steeler in Iowa’s black and gold, and he’s a glove-perfect fit as a ILB in a 3-4. I’m sure a lot of you think he will go higher than this after that combine, but remember another instinctive MLB with questionable coverage skills tested even better than Campbell (Leo Chenal, 9.99 RAS to Campbell’s 9.98) and still didn’t go until the very end of the 3rd. I think Campbell’s a little more instinctive so a half-round higher seems right.
(81) Detroit Lions: Riley Moss, CB, Iowa - In his tenure so far Brad Holmes hasn’t hesitated to double-up with premium picks on positions of need. Two DTs in 2021 in the 2nd and 3rd, two edges in 2022 in the 1st and 2nd. So despite grabbing Joey Porter Jr in the first I fully expect Brad to grab another CB. And Moss fits the RAS and scoring thresholds he’s liked so far.
(82) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Braeden Daniels, iOL, Utah - Like Zavala another guy I think will go much higher come draft day. Daniels is a fantastic athlete and has a nasty demeanor.
(83) Jacksonville Jaguars (From Seattle): Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU - I’ve been schooled by Jags fans that the CB need is not outside, but in the slot. THT didn’t play in the slot a lot at TCU but he’ll have to in the pros and he’s got the athleticism and the attitude for it.
(84) Miami Dolphins: Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse - The secondary really fell apart last year, it makes a lot of sense to add to it in a deep class. I had a 1st round grade on Williams coming into the season and think he could be a steal here, though he measured much smaller than I thought he would (5’10, 31 inch arms). But it's fine even if he has to play from the slot. He models his game after Jaire Alexander, and if he can become a fraction of the player Jaire is, he can play anywhere.
(85) Los Angeles Chargers: Siaki Ika, NT, Baylor - The Chargers need to stop the run, Ika stops the run. He doesn’t do much else but at this point in the draft that’s OK.
(86) Baltimore Ravens: Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma - The Ravens seem to really like drafting pass-catchers from Oklahoma. Mark Andrews, Marquise Brown, all the way back to Mark Clayton. Some of those worked out better than others but I think Mims has really been slept on throughout the process, though that might change after his good combine.
(87) Minnesota Vikings: Parker Washington, WR, Penn State - The Vikings don’t need a lot of help on offense but they could stand to take some of the pressure away from Jefferson, especially since Theilen’s on his last legs. Washington will do most of his work out of the slot but that’s fine.
(88) Seattle Seahawks (From Jacksonville): Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State - More front seven help for the Seahawks.
(89) New York Giants: Kyu Blu Kelly, CB, Stanford - It’s a pretty thin CB room in NY that could thinner if Moreau leaves. I like almost everything about Kelly’s game except for his long speed, otherwise he’d go much higher.
(90) Dallas Cowboys: Jakorian Bennett, CB, Maryland - Dallas loves their elite testers and could use more help at CB despite Bland’s emergence.
(91) Minnesota Vikings (From Buffalo): Zach Evans, RB, Mississippi - I actually have Evans as the #2 RB on my personal board, so yeah, don’t see him going to Minnesota. Of course what keeps him from going higher are off-the-field questions that will have to get answered. With Mattison a free agent and Cook potentially on the trading block, the Vikings could have a bigtime need here.
(92) Cincinnati Bengals: Kendre Miller, RB, TCU - The Bengals do have a bigtime need at RB since Mixon’s as good as gone and Perine’s a FA. More so than maybe any other team in the draft, I expect Cincy to draft a RB at some point.
(93) Carolina Panthers (From San Francisco): Tank Bigsby, RB, Auburn - A mini-run on RBs. This is about the range I expect them to start coming off in a deep class. I don’t know if Foreman’s coming back but Hubbard’s just fine, they could definitely stand to add to the room.
(94) San Francisco 49ers (From Philly): Byron Young, EDGE, Tennessee - A total bargain at this point in the draft due to his age and relative inexperience, he’ll protect against Ebukam leaving or Jackson not panning out.
(95) Kansas City Chiefs: Isaiah Foskey, EDGE, Notre Dame - With Clark looking like he’s on the way out EDGE is a definite need for the Chiefs, and the pickings are start to get a little slim.
(96) Buffalo Bills (From Arizona): Rashee Rice, WR, SMU - I’m just not sure Gabe Davis is ever gonna be anthing more than a MVS style deep-ball specialist. I’m not sure Rice will either but they need more guys that will make opponents pay for focusing all their efforts on Diggs.
(97) Washington Commanders: Tucker Kraft, TE, South Dakota State - Great value at this point, might have been my #1 overall TE in last year’s class.
(98) Cleveland Browns: Moro Ojomo, iDL, Texas - The Browns have to get more pressue from the line, Ojomo brings that from inside, and if he can hold up against the run he might prove a steal here.
(99) Philadelphia Eagles (From San Francisco): Zacch Pickens, iDL, South Carolina - More rotation for the DL, it’s right up Howie’s alley.
(100) New York Giants: Byron Young, iDL, Alabama - Lawrence and Williams are great but any time they need a break the defense suffers greatly.
(101) San Francisco 49ers: Sydney Brown, S, Illinois - The 49ers have holes opening all over their secondary so they take Brown to help fill them.
(102) San Francisco 49ers: Jartavius “Quan” Martin, S/NB, Illinois - Then add his teammate to continue to fill them.

Humans are Weird – Pressure Drop
Original Post:
http://www.authorbettyadams.com/bettys-blog/humans-are-weird-pressure-drop “Pardon me Human Friend -”
Human Friend Helen emitted a harsh bark of sound and staggered away from where she had been threading some fiber through the slats of solar radiation shielding.
“My most sincere apolo-” Feeling the Joy of Generosity began as contrition rippled through his mass, shaking out more than a few dried blades of grass.
“Not-”Human Friend Helen gasped out, “no prob-” she hissed in another breath, “please don’t- I just-really focused you know.”
The human have a wry laugh and obviously pulled her awareness inward to balance her reactions. Feeling the Joy of Generosity politely shifted his center of mass down to indicate that he was patiently waiting for her to center herself. He was well aware that this gave him an appearance that humans considered pudgy and amusing, but given that he had clearly startled this human that was probably not a bad thing in this case. Human Friend Helen finally drew in a deep breath and shook out her body.
“I got to focused on this,” she indicated the work she was doing with a wave of her hand. “You heard the measurements for the blinds were all wrong when they arrived? Anyway you made plenty of noise on your approach, I was just too internalized, so there’s no need to apologize.”
“As ever thank you for your clear explanation of the social element Human Friend Helen,” Felling the Joy of Generosity said, making sure to use the tones human associated with sincerity. “In that case may I use sorry in an expression of compassion for the fight or flight surge you experienced?”
The human blinked at him as she mulched that over and then she smiled and the harsh tank of mammalian panic hormones that filled the room was softened by the pleasure and relief pheromones that washed out of her.
“Sure thing Feels, and thank you.” She said. “Now, what did you want?”
“I am looking for Human Friend Gavin,” Feeling the Joy of Generosity stated allowing his tones to shift to display his cheerful intent.
It was so very important that humans got signals of your benign intentions, otherwise they were reluctant to provide location data for others.
“He was doing touch up work in the rafters of the north collaboration hut,” Human Friend Helen stated with a wave to indicate the direction of said hut. “He’ll probably still be there. Installing vents in dead-wood structures is fussy work.”
“Thank you,” Feeling the Joy of Generosity said. “I wish you pleasant work integrating the radiation shields.”
“Oh, it’s fun enough,” Human Friend Helen said as she bent back over the worksurface.
Feeling the Joy of Generosity shuffled out of the room and headed towards the location of the new north collaboration hut. The structures were an experimental space meant to welcome all seven species at the University branch in a more natural outdoor environment. There was a humanity grade roof, strong enough to take the full gravitational load of winter snow as well as tight enough to resists the highest of winds. The underside was shaped with curves and foils that were designed to redirect the force of the wind blasts to prevent them from lifting the structure off of it’s main supports; wooden posts, just over two meters tall, and below that sunk deep into the soil for strength and stability at each of the ten corners. There were sides that could be lowered and raised at will to deflect or welcome solar radiation, wind, or even the small streams that meandered through the structure to meet at the small pond in the center.
Just designing proper venting around all those elements was a feat in itself for a deadwood structure that could not change or adapt naturally Feeling the Joy of Generosity mused as he shuffled towards it. Actually manually applying those designs would be ‘fussy’ work as Human Friend Helen had put it. His musings were interrupted by a sudden tremor that ran through the ground and then the air. Something large must have fallen to the ground and from the direction of the sound waves it had fallen in the structures he was approaching. Feeling the Joy of Generosity’s tendrils stirred uneasily within his bio mass. He knew of nothing that should have been falling to the ground at this stage of the construction, and now he noticed that some ambient noise had ceased. He was not sure which however. He found himself wishing he had brought his movement tray, but he had gotten so efficient at mimicking walking in this form that he rarely even disturbed the humans. However running was quite out of the question if he wanted any sort of biomass cohesion. So he continued to shuffle one foot in front of the other until he came around one of the lowered walls of the structure.
Feeling the Joy of Generosity paused a moment to take in the scene. From the flowing of the air around him it was clear that half of this side of the structure had been vented. A human class, non powered climbing device was propped against the wall. On the leaf litter scattered floor Human Friend Gavin lay on one side. One hand clutched a blood stained scrap of natural fiber cloth to the other. His eyes were open, but even Feeling the Joy of Generosity could see that his irises and pupils were not visible.
Feeling the Joy of Generosity digested his options and shuffled forward to the human’s side. Mammals could not lose much internal fluid by mass. He lifted the damaged hand and examined it. It had not seemed to loose more than a few cubic centimeters of blood at most. The injury appeared to be a small, rough hole going entirely through the flesh. Feeling the Joy of Generosity spotted a small powered drill not far from where the human had fallen and an extended tendril detected particles of blood and flesh on it. However the injury had not lost much fluid and was rapidly sealing. Still Feeling the Joy of Generosity carefully repositioned the cloth which seemed to have absorbed the majority of what blood had escaped over the injury and secured it there with several of his own smaller structural vines.
As the vines gently cinched down Human Friend Gaving began to stir and let out a groan. His eyeballs rotate in their sockets and his eyelids rapidly blinked as his irises flexed to focus on Feeling the Joy of Generosity. The Gathering carefully prodded the interior of his own face with active tendrils to made sure all the elements were properly in place to present a comforting image to the human.
“What are you injuries Human Friend Gavin?” Feeling the Joy of Generosity asked.
The human blinked at him a few more times and then his face grew red as his blood vessels dilated.
“’M fine,” the human slurred out as he made an attempt to roll into a more vertical position.
Feeling the Joy of Generosity felt a sympathetic ripple run through him. It seemed that Human Friend Gavin was having trouble generating non-distressing tones himself due to the minor loss of mass.
“I’m fine,” Human Friend Gavin managed to enunciate as he finally managed to get up, onto his hands and knees, and then stagger mostly upright.
The red color drained out of the human’s face leaving him pale and dim once more. The human lurched sideways until he came to rest against the wall. Once propped against the structure he squinted down at the cloth now tied to his hand and frowned. He picked lightly at the vines in confusion, then his glance shifted to Feeling the Joy of Generosity. He blinked a few more times and then managed to smile.
“Thanks for the wrap Feels Dude,” Human Friend Gavin said.
His tones were more human normal now but still weak.
“May I escort you to the medical office?” Feeling the Joy of Generosity.
The human flushed again and bit his lower lip as he considered this.
“Nah,” he finally said.
“I would probably be too slow,” admitted Feeling the Joy of Generosity. “You should set out then.”
“What?” The human blinked at him again as he gradually shifted into a more upright position. “Ah, I see what you mean. Nah, you can come with me if you like, but this,” he waved his injured hand, “this lil’ perforation? Not worth a trip to the mammal doctor. I’ll just go and rest and run the deep tissue disinfectant over it.”
Feeling the Joy of Generosity pondered this as the human began teetering around to gather his tools.
“How is losing consciousness and falling off a climbing device not worthy of a medical visit?” he asked, making sure to put plenty of skepticism in his tones.
From the annoyed look Human Friend Gavin shot him he suspected he might have overdone it.
“Only fell off the last step,” the human protested, “and it was a controlled fall too! My brain’s fine!”
“Why did you fall then?” Feeling the Joy of Generosity pressed.
The human sighed and lifted his toolbag with his uninjured hand. He swayed a moment, swayed far outside of normal movements in a human and then braced a shoulder against the wall again.
“Look,” Human Friend Gavin finally said, and his tones suggested he was admitting something shameful. “I got this low blood pressure issue. Can’t stand the sight of my own blood. I loose any at all and I just wobble and then keel over. I just need some rest and I’ll be right back to work. You coming?”
The human shoved off of the wall and staggered off towards his personal habitation. Feeling the Joy of Generosity followed him, uncertain if this situation called for a quick medical snitch.

There was an energy in his veins today, rattling his bones and electrifying his skin! He watched the world float by in delight from the car window.
Today marked the beginning of a new journey.
An electric guitar. A real, authentic, human electric guitar.
And
he would have one!
“This is going to be great! I’m going to get my hands on a real…
argh!” I kind of feel bad for getting something else after Stephen gave me his acoustic though. Do you think he’d mind? I know it means a lot to him... would he mind? Maybe I’ll ask him. Couldn’t hurt to at least ask, right? Do you think he’d teach me? I want to learn all of the best tricks! Have you seen him shred? He’s so cool, and
‘cough’... ‘hack!’” He caught a runaway puff of potent, sour, cigarette smoke, infecting his lungs with acid. “Can you put that out!? This is a rental!”
Vaeka rolled her eyes from behind a pair of aviators and carefully blew smoke out the car window. Combined with the bomber jacket, she looked just like some insufferable Patrol hotshot. “Then I’ll pay the cleaning fee! You’d think they’d let you smoke after curing cancer, but
noooooooo, you pull out a cig and they give you triple the usual dirty looks.”
Something was off about her today. Her grumbling was in earnest this time, plus she’d been twitchy and irritable since breakfast. “Vaeka, what’s wrong?”
They pulled up to a red light, and she kept her head forward, trapped in thought. With a deep sigh, she finally acknowledged him. “I’m trying to hype myself up for this conversation… which we
need to have.” She flicked her cigarette out the window, breaking at least two imperial laws with one finger. “You’re a real prized catch with the girls. You know that, right?”
“I’m a man, yes.”
“No… well, yes, but that’s not what-
sigh.” She pinched the bridge of her nose. “The band,
Clothes Encounter… wait, what does that even mean?”
“It’s
Close Encounter, a Pre-Integration English term that was used to describe the event of someone coming into contact with alien life or technology. It fell out of use after the, uh, aliens actually showed up… I guess it could be a double entendre too if you think about it.”
“A double
what?”
“Nothing.”
“
Hmph, what I’m trying to tell you is that your little group is the hot topic around the mess hall tables. I got off a call with the Lieutenant this morning. No one will shut up about the show;
especially Zilis.”
Aku stayed silent, but his feelings betrayed him with a smile.
The light turned green and Vaeka turned her attention back to the road. “Hey, quit looking so smug. This is serious. Whatever happened to keeping a low profile?
Hmm? Believe me, the Baroness has not forgotten about you.”
Ah, Baroness Zena Ri’bor. It had been so long since he’d thought about
Her Heftiness, but like Vaeka said, he was certainly still on her mind. Women were tenacious, picky women even moreso. Picky, filthy rich women who’d never been told ‘no’ in their entire lives? Good luck getting away because she smells like a sound, she’s lost and she’s found, and she’s
hungry like the wolf.
“I didn’t know there’d be Marines in the audience! Honest!”
“So you were going to do all that anyway?”
“Do what?”
“
Do what? You know what!” Vaeka smashed the gas pedal to the floor to overtake a lifted truck hogging the road. The acceleration glued Aku to his seat. “The beer! The shirt! The marching! The high kicks! The…
pelvic thrusts! Aku, what in the Deep were you thinking?! Those Marines only had one thing on their minds during that show, and it wasn’t the music! You want a reputation of being fast and easy? A
stiff?”
“I don’t have a reputation! I’ve never fooled around with anyone. Honest!” He hated lying, but he hated kissing and telling more.
“You don’t have a rep
yet, but displays like that are how you get it. What would
mom have said if she’d seen that?”
Mom. Memories of a tall woman with wavy hair came flooding through his mind. It was one of those rare moments when they were truly alone together, sitting on their private beach just after a swimming lesson. She was holding him close in her lap as they watched the sunset out over the turquoise waters of their homeworld, Kair Par’vol. The warmth of her smile eclipsed that of the sun sinking below the horizon, but under that warmth, always there but never shown, was a tinge of tired sadness and regret.
“She did see it. She’s always watching.”
He turned away from her and leaned into the passenger side door. Silence filled the car, weighing heavily on both their souls.
Vaeka cleared her throat. “I’m… I’m sorry to- just… please be careful, okay?”
Aku sighed. “I promise.”
It wasn’t fair.
Being a boy means being born ‘lucky.’ You were a one-in-eight miracle child. Giving birth to a boy in high-born tradition means throwing a
khanpo: a massive festival that can last up to a week. Extended family, childhood friends, everyone was invited to share in the joy. Khanpos thrown by high-profile houses could cover entire territories, even entire planets in some cases. Attendees were fully encouraged to gorge themselves with food and drink until they were unable to stand. The father of the child was placed in a seat of honor and showered with gifts in gratitude for bringing a male child into the world. Toasts and prayers were made to a long, prosperous life under the goddess’s protection before the child’s
svaldu, their first baby blanket, was thrown into the air for the of-age women to catch. Whoever did was blessed to give birth to their own healthy boy in the future.
And what becomes of these bright, young boys born into status and comfort? Bargaining chips locked up inside their whole lives taught how to be proper, docile, complacent husbands until they come of age and are then hastily married off to the highest bidder. The bonds between families and their businesses were all one of the same, and boys were the most precious resource in the Imperium.
Even as a Cliffsinger initiate, one of the most prestigious careers in the whole of the galaxy, he couldn’t escape the fate bestowed upon him from birth, a fate which mom fought tooth and claw against her whole life.
I promise I’ll make it up to you. The car took a sharp right into a parking lot filled with litter and weeds. The strip mall was boarded up and abandoned, all of its units up for lease except for a solitary, dilapidated storefront at the end. The sign above the entrance, falling apart right before their eyes, read ‘FLAGLER MUSIC EMPORIUM. Trade-ins welcome!’
Vaeka scanned the perimeter on instinct and grumbled something about never being able to go anywhere nice. Her sidearm sat comfortably in her belt holster, the weight of it making her pants sag to one side. She made sure the gun was still visible after putting on her jacket.
Whatever lingering feelings of melancholy he had left were swept away in an instant. He ran through the front door, an electronic chime announcing his presence.
The scent of musty old wood, fresh paper, and recycled air filled the nose. Instruments of all shapes, colors, and sizes either hung on the walls by hooks or sat gathering dust. Some, he recognized: keyboards, violins, saxophones, guitars, basses, trumpets. Others were foreign to him: wooden tubes of varying materials and length, polished brass pipes tangled around each other, and upright violins almost the size of an adult Shil woman.
The door chimed once more as Vaeka followed him inside, checking her corners on instinct.
The sales counter was along the length of the right wall. The register sat unattended, the faint sound of a vidscreen from the back room the only indication there was anyone around. A rusty call bell sat next to a cardboard sign which read ‘RING FOR SERVICE.’
He pressed the bell.
‘Dink.’ Broken.
Seriously? ‘Dink. Dink. Dink. Dink. DINKDINKDINKDINK…’ “Shit!” said a gruff voice in a half burp, half shout. The sound of a plate and silverware clattering to the ground rang out as a thin, silver-haired man sprung from the store room, pushing strings of beads out of his way before brushing crumbs off his khaki shorts and
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard shirt. “Welcome to Flagler Music. How can I help-”
The old man’s words caught in his throat as his eyes met Aku’s, then Vaeka’s, then her tits, then the gun on her hip. He swallowed, slowly, and spoke in broken Trade. “I no do the speaking Shil good. Can help?”
Aku wanted to save the man from further embarrassment. “We speak English, but your Vatikre is good!” It was
not. “Oh! Good, good.” He seemed relieved. “W-what are y’all looking for? I don’t get many…
visitors.”
“Everything I’d need for a first electric guitar.”
The man nodded. “You play?”
“I’m decent. Our lead guitarist though, he’s a
real master.” He’d never pass up an opportunity to sing Stephen’s praises.
The man laughed in disbelief. “You’re in a band?
You?”
Aku pursed his lips, frustrated. “Yes. We played the Seger a few days ago.”
“Hmm, that’s nice. Downtown ain’t what it used to be, but that there’s always been a nice theater, I tell ya what. I remember seeing back in the day all—...” he paused mid-sentence and pointed straight at Aku’s chest. A smile crept into his bleary expression. “It’s you! You’re the one from the videos! My daughter sent me one last night. It was, er…
Close Encounter, was it?”
Aku took a moment to recover from the total shift in the man’s demeanor. “Yes, that’s our band.”
“The name’s Chet, and it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr…” The man extended a fist.
“Akularo. Call me Aku!” He bumped it cordially.
“Heh. The master of darkness, ay?”
“Huh?”
“Hmm?” Chet coughed and suppressed a smirk.
Aku continued, ignoring the interruption. “The, uh, one standing menacingly behind me is Vaeka, my cousin.”
“Yo,” she coughed before returning to screwing around on her omnipad.
He felt the impatience surging within again, “So, can we browse around?” He asked, gesturing toward the racks of various guitars hanging around.
“Browse? You don’t want
those, ha! They’re just there for all the kids to get their grubby little fingers all over. I keep the
good stuff hidden. Did you have anything in mind?”
“I don’t know. I did some research, but pictures can’t do the feeling of actually holding it justice.”
“I can feel it—you’re a man of refined taste. You don’t want just a piece of wood with strings, you want something
personal, your first child.”
Aku cocked his head in curiosity.
“So, what vibe do you want to go for? What’s your statement?”
It didn’t take him long to think of a single word. “Freedom.”
Chet flinched behind the counter and dropped his voice down to a whisper. “Not so loud! Say it in Vatikre next time, bruh.”
The man’s sudden fear confused him. “There’s no word for the abstract concept of freedom in Vatikre.”
“Seriously? Huh… I guess that tracks.”
“Pardon?”
“Nothing. I know what you need though. I’ll be right back.” Chet once again pushed the strings of beads aside and disappeared into the backroom.
“Hey,” Vaeka drew his attention. “Did you catch that? He said he saw you in a video,
online.” She crossed her arms and gave him a stern look like he’d been caught with his hand in the candy jar. Luckily, it wasn’t nearly as threatening as she’d hoped it to be.
“Someone probably recorded our concert on their handheld. That’s normal. It’s no big deal.”
“
No big deal? Akuuuuuuu…” She practically growled at him.
He defended himself. “It’s limited to the Human datanet. I’ve been in some videos before, and they don’t get
that many views. Honest!”
“Are you honest, you little
sandmite?”
“House’s honor!” Oh, the irony of that proclamation.
Chet emerged from his hideaway carrying a flat, long case. The hard-shelled baggage was matte black with silver buckles lining one side and hinges on the other. He walked with it out into the showroom and sat it down gently next to an amp. “This lil’ beaut’ was a custom job I had built a while ago. All the parts were mail ordered from out of state since originals are getting rarer. I’m stuck with it ‘cause the buyer was arrested before she had a chance to pick it up. Last I heard, she was lightyears away stuck in boot camp runnin’ circles around her DIs.”
With a trio of snaps, the latches came free and
the prize inside was revealed. A divine chorus resounded from the goddess’s domain on high.
The bottom was split into two tapered points, which joined together in perfect unison halfway up the body. The lacquered, blood-blue paint glistened in the light, spotless, untouched by mortal hands. Chrome finishings accented the off-white pickguard like a sword entombed in limestone. It had twelve frets: the perfect number, signifying completion, wholeness. The dark wood of the thin neck contrasted the light gloss of the body like a storm rolling over a midday horizon.
He was wrong. Turns out, ‘love at first sight’ really does exist.
Chet lifted the instrument out of its case with delicate precision and slung the strap over his bony shoulder, tightening the strings and procuring a pick from his pocket. “I believe you could walk outta here with any old, I don’t know, SG or Les Paul and work wonders with it, but nothing quite captures the
feeling of rock like a classic Flying V. Whatever style you’re playing, this baby will never disappoint.”
The silver-maned man bent over and plugged the cable running from the amp into the guitar and began strumming some basic chords. The tone was darker, more muted, and noticeably rougher than Stephen’s, but the added edge gave the sound such a distinct bite.
“That’s the clean tone. Here’s a taste of dirty.” Chet rotated the knobs on the amp and began chugging away before demonstrating ascending scale runs with the distortion effect in full.
After a minute, he unshoulder the guitar and held it out to Aku. “Want to try?”
He answered with a smile, the most sincere smile he’d given to anyone in a long time.
Aku grabbed it and held it close, hugging it against his frame. He took the worn pick from Chet’s hand and began tentatively plucking the strings. It felt
good. It sounded good too!
He tried his hand at ‘La Bamba.’
It was… C, F, then G? That sounds right. Chet’s grin was almost predatory. “So, want to stick with this one, or would you care to try a few others?”
Vaeka cleared her throat. “
Ahem. Aku, could I have a quick word?”
He reluctantly placed the guitar back in its case and followed her around the corner. She spoke in hushed Vatikre to ensure Chet couldn’t eavesdrop. “I don’t think you should get that guitar.”
His heart dropped into his stomach. “What? Why?”
“It’s a little much. If I were you, I’d get something
normal-er.”
Normal? Ordinary?
Blasphemy. “But it’s custom-made… and really shiny… and intonated perfectly…” He shrunk into himself, cocked his head, and gave her the baby squeeble eyes.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t working. “We just had this conversation earlier. What kind of message do you want to send?”
He didn’t need to think about the answer. “That I’m my own man.”
“And what does that entail?”
“For starters, not letting other people boss me around with
my own money,” he accused.
She defended herself. “I’m just saying that thing can come across as offensive.”
“Why?”
“You don’t see it?” Vaeka formed the ‘V’ sign with her index and middle fingers and held it up to her mouth, the universally recognized ‘lick my cunt’ sign.
That was ridiculous. Sure, it was a ‘v’, but the resemblance was only there if you were looking for it, and Vaeka was. “That’s a stretch. C’mon, it’ll be fine!”
“
Akuuuuuuu…” she growled his name, but deflated with a shrug and a sigh.
His foe vanquished, Aku flashed his credit chit at Chet. “We’ll take it!”
In all, the guitar, amp, accessory pack, case, and shoulder strap cost around four hundred credits. Vaeka grumbled curses in Vatikre to herself while making sure the price wasn’t gouged
too much. They weren’t exactly getting a fair price, but it wasn’t anything
truly bad. Lynik once bought an exercise bike at a garage sale for no less than seven hundred, single-handedly funding the next few years of the seller’s retirement.
He was busy admiring his new prize out in front of the store as Vaeka effortlessly hefted the amp inside the trunk and slammed it shut. She turned towards him, her piercing gaze filled with fury and sorrow. “Look, I want you to know that I support you and your merry band of bards galavanting around playing who-knows-what for who-cares and why-not, but as your
sole protector on the most dangerous Imperial colony this side of the empire,
please, for the love of the goddess… Be. Fucking.
Careful. I’d never forgive myself if something happened. I’m begging you, I’m only one woman and I can’t be there all the time.”
He did feel a bit guilty about hiding the truth from her. Because of him, she’d gotten into trouble with her superiors and was reassigned as his full-time babysitter. It had all worked out through blind luck in some weird, twisted way, but life wasn’t always so forgiving.
For the first time in thirty minutes, he put down his new guitar. “Vaeka, I’m sorry. You’re right about the show, about me; I… I got carried away.”
“Alright,” she smiled. “No more club dancing and late-night rendezvous with fast women?”
He turned blue in the face. “I did no such thing! I’m as pure as a mountain spring!”
She slapped her thigh in delight, grinning down at him. “I’m only teasing, hehe! Let’s grab lunch.”
Right as they were about to squeeze back into the car, a glossy, six-wheeled armored patrol vehicle lumbered into the parking lot. A pod of Marines disembarked, stretching and chatting amongst themselves.
One of them had a strangely familiar outline.
Uh oh. The Marine in question noticed them, waved, and then began bounding over while simultaneously yanking her helmet off her head. Locks of sea-green hair cascaded around her shoulders. He knew her face: chiseled, sun-kissed, a mole just under her left eye she refused to remove, and a cute button nose.
UH OH. Vaeka tensed, fully prepared to intervene if necessary. She made sure the mystery Marine kept her distance, but in a breach of custom, the Marine addressed herself to
him first. “Heeeeeey,
sugar lips! Haven’t seen you in a while.”
“H- hey, Tasi,” he squeaked.
“So,” she brushed the hair out of her eyes, “who’s your
friend?” He watched with abject horror as Tasi began checking out Vaeka, being about as subtle as a hand grenade in a library.
Vaeka robotically rotated to face him, the muscles in her neck pulled taut and twitching. She looked like a kettle ready to boil over, righteous fury engraved into her sneer.
Of all the things that could’ve killed him on this planet, it had to be his sister.
“
SUGAR LIPS?!?”
— — —
She sat comfortably upon the deck of her private yacht, but couldn’t bring herself to care about the sun or the sea.
Baroness Ri’bor retyped her log search for the third time in a row. With fingers the size of hers, omni-pads were already hard enough to type on while sober. After a few blue grails, why even bother trying?
For him, of course.
Her more technologically-inclined assistants were helping her scour the datanet in their spare time—a courteous effort indeed. They’d managed to narrow the search parameters substantially. The first time she’d tried looking up his name, nothing but images of a strangely arousing black, red, and green Human cartoon creature filled her feed, so the first logical step was narrowing down the search to only Shil’vati datanet sources.
Finally gaining access to the data archives was a chore in itself. The security clearances required to get through the fleet-mandated info blackouts took days and mountains of paperwork. Eventually the clam-jammers in the Navy relented, allowing her to look at old articles, news bulletins, videos, documents, and more from the wider Imperium. She figured her best bet was checking the Imperial capital tabloids first. They knew everything about every family with an intelligence network only rivaled by the Interior.
Search: Aku, Shil’vati, male, sexy
She hit send, hoping it wouldn’t lead her down false trails yet again.
Loading…
Damn it, load afterwards! You can do that, right?? “Akurune Dorskulo, former Cliffsinger initiate and husband of prominent socialite Madalon Ushaar missing. No evidence of foul play. Local Militia forces baffled.” —reported by Khe’lark Guytan, published [LOCAL DATE TRANSLATION: August 15, 2039]
Attached next to the header was a picture of her Aku seated at a dinner party, though younger and dressed like a proper male in a flowing toga and copious amounts of jewelry even by
her standards.
“Oooo, that little sneak!” She yelled, angry that attaining the honor of being first wife was no longer possible.
So he ran away, did he? No doubt for a good reason, that outfit was
so last decade. Now that the truth had been brought to light, she had to figure out the best way to utilize it.
The first inklings of a plan began to formulate within her mind.

2023.03.04 20:35 kiss-o-matic McGill Success Story
I finally jogged 2 miles yesterday, and am doing all kinds of stuff in the gym again. I figured this is a good benchmark to claim success in my journey, even though it's ongoing.
Disclaimer: This is simply my reflection on what worked for me. Maybe it can work for you. Some of my thoughts on specific remedies might sound short and even harsh. They're not meant to offend or belittle. I'm listing the things that worked for me, and the things that didn't.
TLDR: - Messed my back up doing dead lifts (L4/L5 & L5/S1). Had noticeable discomfort but lived with it for a good 8 months. Got worse and worse. Got even worse by trying to strengthen my core the wrong way. It was eventually debilitating.
- Did all kinds of stuff I read on the internet and nothing at all helped.
- A quick Google search or three said that 95% of back pain doesn't require surgery - to me that sounded like reason enough to not bother with anything that suggested surgery until I had exhausted all other options.
- Read Back Mechanic twice. Pain got a bit better but not nearly enough.
- Did a McGill Master Clinician session
- Pain became more and more manageable by the month
- I politely ignored the MANY people that suggested "just do yoga" or similar "blanket remedies".
- Many of those people were friends that were doctors, albeit in other, non-related fields.
- It took a total of about 9 months to be pain free, but there were many stages along the way, making it slowly more tolerable.
- Sneezes were very painful until almost the end of the 9 months.
- Back in the gym now - no dead lifts but my workouts are respectable. Approaching where I was muscle wise, and got my jogs up to 2 miles.
- If you get Back Mechanic, don't mix it with PT that goes against the advice in the book (of which there is plenty). Also, get the videos as they help a lot.
- Was the session worth it? Yes.
Details I will be as thorough as possible as many people come here posting with symptoms very similar to mine. I'm a late 40's, "always been in shape" male. Not Brad Pitt in Fight Club fit, but generally 6'3" 185-200 lbs for the last 20 years. Have a history of messing my back up, and this last time was torture. Dead Lifts were definitely what kicked it off. Then trying to make it better with "core strength" made things worse. Workouts at the time of injury were a 4-5 day split with weights, each day had some type of cardio (2 days were swimming 3k, 2 days were jogging 3-4 miles, 2 days were an hour or so on an exercise bike).
Randomly, an acquaintance/customer of mine from a decade prior popped into an exercise thread in another online community I'm a staple of and talked about how he had met Dr. McGill and his experience with back pain. He suggested Back Mechanic and maybe a session. I started w/ the book.
In March, I was a digital nomad at the time and I hit the lowest point while on the road, in another country, on an uncomfortable bed. For the first time in my history of back pain, I was waking up in agony: sharp pain in the lower spine, stabbing pains in the psoas, and a general "discomfort" in the entire right hip (up to above the waistline). I was also unable to even trot. If a car was coming when I was crossing the road and I sped up even a bit, every step felt like a pin in my lower spine. I was about halfway into Back Mechanic when it got this bad. The walking helped a lot but it took about 20 minutes of walking (limping really) to get out of that pain, then the next 20 minutes was a real walk. This level of pain lasted a couple of weeks, and it was truly horrible. I could only sit at the dinner table with one of my hands on the chair stabilizing my spine, and only for enough time to eat. By the time I was ready to return to the US it was much more tenable but the pain was still idling at a 4 or so and spiking to 6, or maybe 7 on a bad day.
I had a McGill Session booked for when I planned to be back to the states (in early May). I took a lot of flack from friends for not getting an MRI, but I knew that it's not so straight forward to get one in the US, and I didn't want to mess with any of that - definitely not waiting weeks for a doctors appointment. I knew the origin of this, and was pretty convinced I could solve this mechanically. The clinician told me an MRI is a piece of the puzzle, but it's not the entire puzzle.
The McGill Session went great. I was doing a lot of the movements very wrong. I was shown with great detail where I was messing up, and what it was doing to my spine. Most importantly, all my questions were answered by making me find the answer by applying the rules I had just learned, not by spoon feeding me. By the end of the session I had a much better understanding of what I was doing wrong in even the most mundane of tasks, not to mention stuff in the gym that I should just throw away due to risk.
Looking back, sadly the improvements were miniscule. The decrease of pain per month was not that much. It is a very long, drawn out process that rewarded repetition and sticking to the routine. In all honesty, doing the Big Three (plus some more stuff) every single day is quite monotonous. I could see this being an issue for many people. Some noteworthy points
- I stopped travelling.
- I luckily work from home, and spent a good month or so working in bed for most of each day.
- I was luckily in the market for a new bed, and went to a showroom. Got one that I loved and am still absolutely in love with my purchase. It has helped a ton, even though it was close to 2x my budget.
- Right after my session, I scaled my routine back to only doing the Big 3 and doing two 30-40 minute walks a day
- I added a few other things as time went on: Banded Clam Shell, Glute Bridge, Leg Lifts, etc.
- Even though I'm in the gym again, I do the Big Three 6 times a week on average, and walk an hour almost every day. (I cheat when I have a massive hangover).
- I did get back in the gym not too much later to do a handful of things but the weight was almost zero.
- I had to stop the swimming. As per the book, it is a blanket remedy. I went over it with my clinician and he pointed out how freestyle would be "challenging" given my symptoms. He was 100% right. I got in the pool, tried it, and any time I turned to breathe w/o keeping my hips and shoulders lock step I could feel a stab in my back. Back stroke and breast stroke were substantially easier, but there was a similar pain if I was not using ab bracing while coming up to breathe. Hard to describe, but I had spinal instability and it felt like the lower half of my body was simply dangling around, out of control. It all comes down to form. As weird as this sounds, if you're not swimming with perfect form you are likely doing more damage than good.
- I got on a stationary bike (totally upright, not incumbent) pretty quickly but I had to start off at a whopping 3 minutes. That's all I could handle. I rode 3 days a week and added a minute each time until I got up to 20 minutes, then added 2 minutes each successive ride. By mid August I was at 40 minutes.
- I went to Burning Man! If you've been, you know that it's not a walk in the park and many questioned my sanity. For those that haven't been - the main form transportation is on a crappy bicycle. It went fine! But the conditions this year were terrible, including a LOT of bumps in the road (think miniature moguls) which were torture on my back. There were certain roads I had to avoid at all costs, adding quite a bit of time to get anywhere.
- I helped build and tear down the camp. I lugged my own tub of tools around which weighed a good 50 pounds. I was still in considerable discomfort at this time (end of August) but I knew how to move in a way that would not exacerbate the pain.
- I have not twisted / stretched my back at all.
- Chops, russian twists, burpees, situpsand the like have been removed from my routine for life
- I've not cracked or stretched my back, which was something I did multiple times a day
- Warm up at the gym is a warm up set w/ little to no weight - not a stretch of the muscle group
- Yoga or cardio routines which are not targeted for rehabbing the spine (which I did all throughout the pandemic when gyms were closed) are prime offenders - even then ones that supposedly are I'd be skeptical of.
- Pain was almost gone by early December but I decided to chill until the New Year just in case.
- Early Jan I started lifting with heavier, challenging weight, so I'm about 2 months in with that.
- 2nd week of February, I started jogging on a treadmill!
- Like with the bike, I started slow - 5 minutes, adding a couple of minutes each time
- Yesterday I jogged 2 miles in 20 minutes - which was my goal for writing this post!
Moving forward, the Big Three are going to be a daily part of my life for at least another year. I imagine I will do it on some type of routine even after that. Moving in a spine-sparing way is part of my life now. My boss once said, "Ooh, nice lunge" when I went to pick something off the ground. Well, that's how I pick stuff up now! It may look a bit goofy to some, but I guess them's the breaks!
Goals What am I aiming for from here? Obviously, a pain free life. I don't think I'll ever do Dead Lifts again. They are a "sanctioned" McGill exercise but they require perfect form, and I just don't have perfect form. In my session, I was taught the angle my hip sockets can support w/o rounding my lower spine. Basically it's impossible for me to do a dead lift off of the floor w/o rounding my spine a bit. I'd have to start w/ the bar elevated. So, those are out and I'm not bothered at all.
I'd love to get my jogs back to 4 miles or so on a treadmill. (I don't jog outdoors due to my knees which is another story). I told myself months ago I would write this post and declare success once I could jog two miles, and I did. There's still work to be done but I feel like I'm more or less out of the woods, and well prepared for any hiccups to come.
Squats I reckon I will incorporate at some point, but I'm in no rush. I do Bulgarian split squats, curtsy lunge, and single-leg leg press right now and give me plenty of work.
Swimming: This is a tough one. I will get back to this at some point. It will probably be hard to do it "correctly" without the pain in my back reminding me I'm screwing up. My core, however, is substantially stronger now, so we shall see. I actually had just moved to a new city when all this started and my closest gyms have no pools, so it's not been a temptation.
Core exercises : this is the biggest change to my exercise routine. Most back exercises ironically aren't high risk for your lower back. Core exercises which require twisting (which is a ton of them) are. I'm learning new ones all the time though.
Advice - My take: adding the Big Three to what you're doing is not going to do any good if you're not following the advice in the book. Many people here talk about all the stretching and Big Three they do and getting no where. The book is clear: don't stretch damaged tissue.
- It's easy to do the instructions in the book wrong, so at a minimum buy the video explanations.
- It's hard to recommend a McGill Master Clinician session as they are so expensive. I luckily had a decent year and was able to move things around and afford it. For me, it was 100% worth it. My back is better - maybe better now than it's ever been in my long history of pain.
- Persistence! I've looked back at the repetition my life has had over the last year. Good gravy. It's boring. I get it. There's only so many different walks you can do in your neighborhood, and side planks are about the most boring exercise there are. I counted - I've done like 6000 on each side, as well as 6000 normal planks. But, it's paid off.
- Pick a lane and stay in it. It seems that everyone will have a remedy for back pain once they find out your back hurts. I think I've heard it all. If you don't want to go this route, that's fine. But if you do, stick with the rules and don't mix in a bunch of stuff just to try it or b/c someone said.
Best of luck!!!

2023.03.04 20:16 Aazardian The REALISTIC Bike Mini-RV / Camper. Design & Build Post
| Yes tents exist. This is the "Vagabond-500, Nano-RV", Sleeps 2 What pulls this? this does, a 10Kw to 11kW Full Fat Recumbent Electric Trike: - Obviously an over extreme example, a pedal bike could pull it, even if its a fairly heavy load
- If its too heavy via pedal for you, cheap "DIY E-Bike" front wheel kits exist ($95 for a 250w online)
- Off Road
- On Road (Claims only 50mph... but I'm pretty sure it exceeds 62mph, or 100km/h)
DIY & New materials, you could still build this for about $1500 in 2023 (plus cost of tools used) - $2000 total, if exteriointerior are well finished
- Cheaper Rigids: Bootstrap Cube is $100, Nomad is $300, Drew Builds Stuff Solar Camper is $1000
- Plated Rigids: 8ft Vetsport/Wombat is $2500, 10ft Wander is $7500, & 12ft Campster is $10000
HF/IT Brand (& VIN'ed) trailers are heavy, costly, for larger road vehicles & not ideal for bikes/E-bikes - Canada: $1250 8x4 trailer, must be pre-purchased, VIN register, Pick it up with papers/plates! RIP OFF, and government red tape (even a pro trailer builder needs a government ticket)
- Unneeded: I dont plan on attaching this to a plated road vehicle (bike/e-bike only)
- Same too much $$, for any "Wanderer" style Mini-RV's designed for these 8x4ft to 8x10ft trailers
- "Wide trail/Street" Bike/E-Bike trailers up to 15x5.5x5ft (clearance under 1ft) don't need a VIN (or plates)
- Load balancing, Rear strobe, all round reflectors & a trailer flag are required, I would add brake/turning signal lights & a Front "caution/hazard" strobe to this (in case of break down)
Design Phase: Running ("Living") Summary, so far: - 15x5.5ft Ultra Heavy Duty Bike trailer (ala custom "Bikes at Work" type / Pico Chassis Combo)
- 5x10 Cargo bed, slight load overhand for drainage access
- 12x5.5x4.5ft Exterior, "All Smooth Fiberglass" Finish on R30 (4 Season) SIP 3 inch thick walls
- 11.5x5x4.25 Interior, at Total: 57.5sq ft
- Wet room showemini-cassette toilet, of an included 6.25sq ft
- Tongue "V-Push" front mechanical closet and aero-body, multi level, additional at 10.5sq ft
- Ground Clearance 10 to 11 inches, can quad-stand at 15 inch stationary
- Equipped Weight, with safety: Dry: 350lbs, Wet: 400lbs
- GVWR, with safety: 500lbs (250lbs wheel/tire/innertube rating, x2) moving (quad-stands: 800lbs)
- Do not exceed: 35km/h (can handle up to 60km/h, but breaking/stopping/wind will be an issue)
- Solar System: 500w/40A with 500w DC to AC Inverter, + Emergency 100w Alternator (hand/wheel)
- Battery: 50Ah (1x 150Ah is 2/3 weight of 3x 50AU, 30lbs vs 45lbs)
- Lights, Heat, Internal Galley, Running Hot/Cold Water, Internal ShoweCassette Toilet, Fridge
- 10.1" HDTV with speakers, AM/FM tuner, Mini-PC, 2x Smart Device Mount/2A USB Charge Ports, Shore PoweWater hookup, Solar & Shore Power outlets (internal & external closet locked)
// // Concept: The REALISTIC Bike Mini-RV / Camper. Concept, Micro-Camper, Minus V-front doored front storage & "Fat 250lbs" bike wheels: - 15ft Canoe, 400w solar panel, Propane (Standard BBQ) Tank, Cassette Toilet & Toolbox show scale
- Wheels would be "half cowled, all smooth", as described
- converted to "all interior" features (no rear door or hatch galley)
- Ideally just sitting height, on interior futon's height seat, plus folding chair on casters
Vetsport microcamper used as concept image, DIY modified as described Layout: Concept Alpha, rough composite image, ideally just sitting height, door opposite traffic Chassis/Trailer Aluminum T-Channel Square Tube, Weighs: 52lbs / GVWR: 352lbs (up to 500lbs True) 96B Bike Trailer Source $1300 to $1400? I thank them for their genius design, and customize it to my needs via a DIY build - Much cheaper, $250 in metal, DIY, but concept is awesome. Secure but adjustable wheels
- if we replace the wheels, tires & innertubes with "fat bike" 250lbs each (the max I can locate), we will "get the most out of this wheel/axel style"
- We can max out width, up to 5.5ft safely, with an internal "wheel well", and "stretch/over hang" the load to up to 12ft safely
Specs: 96B, 10x3ftft trailer total (8ft long cargo bed), GVWR 400lbs (under rated to 300 + 52 chassis) - 20" 175lbs each tires > Upgrade to Fat Bike Tire up to 250lbs each passible (500lbs "True")
- On bike wheel axel universal hitch
- 1 minute wheel adjust, balance ANY load
- Fast release wheels with cargo loadable, person stand on supporting, fender
- Stable for bed loads as long as 12' & as wide as 5'6", and 5'6" tall (12x5.5x5.5ft), from pictures, videos of it in use, & written reviews from owners of trailer (like a 5ft tall stack of 5x8 OBS)
Stock 96b specs Body Profile: "The Simple, All Flat" Archived Source Profile: squared off, all \"flat panels\", 4x8 & 5x8 (tongue push to 9ft or even 10ft), 4ft tall Similar design (by other reddit user, as example pics) Here on reddit: HERE - great idea, I believe a few inches more per side with enclosed wheel well may improve usability
- making frame DIY, and careful choice of materials/technique may improve design
- If a "side doohatch" is chosen over the "rear door" mass and layout may be improved
- Adding front "V-Wedge" (Equilateral force airbody) "storage area" (battery/etc) may improve design
- Changing the wheel/tire/innertubes is a must to achieve best max load results (imho)
- welding frame should improve strength and reduce "hardware" mass (1lbs?)
- If using a interior Wheel wheel, removing fenders should save an estimated 2lbs to 4lbs
- "Smooth Side" Half-Cowling of the wheels to the body should improve aerodynamics
These considerations may save a rough 12.5% to 25% mass (6.5lbs to 13lbs), maybe to 40lbs weight Weighs about 90 pounds, a hexayurt inspired design, built from polyiso (with lexan windows and a plywood floor) atop a bikes at work 96AW trailer. Framing/Insulating In SIP 2x3 "light" Lumber or more Aluminum T-Channel Square Tubes - Which ever is lightesafer, I will test strength a few gauge thicknesses and hardwoods
- On "Base"/bed in 6mm (1/5) marine OBS double face finish (1x or 19lbs)
- inneouter skin in 5mm (3/16) single face finish, 14lbs (6x or 84lbs) (I MUST test for rigidity/flex), minus waste cuts
- Insulated in 2x "single face foil backed", rigid R12.5 1.25 inch thick "foilboard", sandwiched/Glued together on non-foiled face, to make 2.5 inch thick R25 (R30 when skinned/sealed) walls
- Various finishing for moisture sealing/proofing all joining's/exposed surfaces
- "Poor-Mans" fiberglass look via fiberglass cloth, steamed, smoothed, sealed sanded & painted
- Rigid foam is 0.01 at 2x8ft (we use 16 sheets, or 0.16lbs!), minus waste mass
- 2x3x8ft lumber weighs, 8.5lbs (we use 14 boards of 2x3x8ft lumber, or 119lbs), minus waste mass
- OBS needed has a mass of 103lbs (taking us to approx. 220lbs, minus waste cuts, or 5%/10lbs)
- 220lbs, That is "shell" on frame mass, with door, no fixtures, & no trailer mass added, 10x5x5ft
With trailer, if 40lbs, that is 250lbs, minimally, with doohatch & port/skylight windows Tongue Storage: 10.5sq ft (v-shaped enclosed, multi level, lockable, mini drop wheel/kick stand) Exterior: 12x5.5x4.5ft, min clearance 10 inch (5.25ft tire bottom on road to roof top) Interior: 11.5x5x4.25ft = 57.5sq ft GVWR: 500lbs + 10% (550lbs) Total: 68sq ft, 220lbs "rolling" ready (no interior fixtures past cupboards/shelving/blank worktop) - assuming all wood 2x3 picked as "lighter" & 2x2 tests "unsafe" or "too low R value"
Vetsport Extreme SIPS Microcamper, Link to 100% free plans (order is assembly is detailed) Strong/Light SIP Framing, while using minimal non-rigid foam (wood/metal) Liquids Note: White/Grey/Black Water (minimal sizes, if used) - 8lbs per Gallon - White water tank: 1 Gallon per person
- Grey Water tank volume must equal white tanks (obviously, to avoid overflow/floods)
- Black water tank must equal 0.5 gallons (full blader emptied + daily constitutional)
- Equals, per person, 2x 1.0 gallon tanks & 1x 0.5 gallon tank (20lbs per person)
- Note: even a "cassette/composting black water tank" has mass if full
- Safety: Liquids move, try to avoid traveling with anything but a full "white water" tank, if you can
Ok, Rolling unit concept, needs a floor plan/layout So far: Concept Alpha, rough composite image - Sliding door on bathroom would allow access, if 2 people inside, one sleeping (during night)
- Galley & Wet room (bathroom) split across front end, as 2.5x2.5ft each (including wall framing)
- this is "no axle adjustments" setup, ensure perfect initial balance, then that loads are balanced, may need to change floor plan to represent true location of wheel wells
- I prefer single side door, on not traffic side, opening so it would close itself if it opened in transit
- front/rear 1ftx1ft windows, 0.5x1ft side windows, main skylight, vent skylight bathroom & kitchen
- A "mechanical closet" in V-front, vented, for batteries/propane. other unsafe, etc.
Concept Alpha, rough composite image, ideally just sitting height on futon Small Wet Rooms? - Commercial unit: 29x30" RV Wrt Room Pic: manufacturer site: Forest River
29\"x30\" RV Wet Room, New Unit, Unboxing Before installation (overhead-ish view) DIY "As Small As Possible" Wet Room, Smallest I've ever seen (20" x 24"?) - Cant pass this up, the space saved using a wet room this size is too good
- Adding a tiny fold up, collapsing silicon "wash-sink" would complete it as a "3 Piece Wet Room"
DIY Wet Room, Smallest I've ever seen Inside added weight: - 500w/40ASolar setup (15lbs), DC to AC Invertor (2lbs) & 50Ah Battery (15lbs)
- A 4.5ft to 4.75ft wide futon + good mattresses weight (custom murphy futon/daybed, 15lbs??)
- A 2x2x2ft Cassette Toilet & materials to water proof wet room so it doesn't leak to interior (5lbs)
- I minimally equipped cooking work top's combined mass, likely a mini toaster over (100w to 550w = caution), collapsing 0.6L kettle (460w), hotplate (100w to 450w), small table fan (18w), 30lbs
- A 8w on demand water pump (with filter), plus piping to a mini sink & 0.5GPM ULF showerhead
- White, Grey & Black Water tanks for 2 people (5lbs + 40lbs when full), 2nd "grey/black" piping 8W on demand pump (filterless)
- DIY 100w Peltier driven 0.5 gallon hot water tank (this 100w is not free, but "waste heat" is)
- Note: Just too good to pass up, considering power needed to heat/cool watefood
- Above pumping heat out of a 0.5cu ft mini fridge at 3C, for FREE (100w FREE), 0.5 gallon cold water tank below it (uninsulated barrier wall for passive cooling "cold water"), 10lbs (all water equip mass + DIY 0.5cu ft 3C Refrigerator)
- LED 10.1 inch HDTV (18w) and "entertainment suite" (PC & AM/FM Radio, 18W) on ceiling fold down panel. 5lbs
- 350w of heating needed (400w thermostatic panel, with thermostat, is smallest/lightest), 5lbs
- LED lights: 2x 7 watt main area (+ 3w LED in 6w solar vent fan), 2x 11w readers, 9w kitchen (+ 3w LED in 6w solar vent fan), 9w bathroom light (+ 3w LED in 6w solar vent fan), 7w rear strobe, Cargo area bay 9w (+ 3w LED in 6w solar vent fan), exterior, 15lbs
- Light weight shelving/cupboards/divider, suitable to loads 15lbs
Total Interior added weight: Approx. 170lbs + 220lbs = 390lbs (+/- 10% = 39lbs) - That is liquids "full", 350lbs "liquids empty"
- Plus your, MINIMAL stuff, blankets & clothing (call it 20lbs more per person, equal to full liquids)
Fully Equipped Mass of: Wet 390lbs / Dry 350lbs (call it 400lbs) - GVWR is 500lbs by my math, as a "utility/cargo road trailer" (UK/CAN/AUS MoT, USA DoT is similar)
- NOTE: Trailer has no VIN/ownership & can not be pulled by a motorcycle/catruck on roadways
- BIKES/E-BIKES ONLY: Best you can do is 3 wheel Recumbent E-Bike in Canada/USA without being a licensed vehicle, 500w Can/750w USA per wheel but 1100w is possible (5000w + 3000w + 3000w)
- Safe to carry 100lbs of additional cargo (on tongue or roof), LOAD BALANCED
- Stationary, on quad kick stands, it should support 2 Adults sleeping/moving inside (+300lbs)
