2023.06.03 13:53 ShadowBionics Perfect World Anthology (PHase 1)

I'd been thinking of doing this for a long time, considering all the questions I've gotten asking where to find the other mods in this series and just to clear up some questions, especially with some of the recent attention these have gotten. So here are the most current download links to the first four mods in the Perfect World Anthology: Carpe Diem, Shattered Time, Captive Heart, and of course Tainted Love.
PWA Phase 1
Given how screwy Reddit is with Mediafire links, I've compiled them into a Google document. There, you can choose whichever one you want to download. That way if you've missed any or are looking for an easy way to re-download them, there you go. As far as any programming or troubleshooting issues, I cannot answer those since I wasn't behind the initial programming. I am the one who wrote the stuff, Mr.Rocketman999 is the codeprogrammer here. Given his recent departure, however, I would rather not speak to him or about him very much, if possible.
Now then, with that out of the way, let me give you a rundown of these mods as a whole. These mods deal with love, drama, and the supernatural. In other words, there are fantasy and sci-fi elements embedded into these stories or have themes that would not make sense in grounded reality. So, as I typically say when approaching these mods, suspend all beliefs of reality. Likewise, approach with caution, as some of these mods carry themes on par with the original DDLC. As such, I will say this only once: If you are expecting mods that have happy endings, you may not find them here. A lot of these stories take inspiration from some of my favorite games and anime with especially darker themes, so approach with caution and keep in mind that there may be some dark moments and possibly no happy endings, keeping with the theme of the original game of how there is "no happiness" to be found in the Literature Club.
While each mod takes place in its own universe and follows its own self-contained stories, they do reference one another and are linked in a way that will eventually be revealed in the finale project of the PWA. And with that, here are some brief descriptions of the mods themselves.

Doki Doki Shattered Time: Chronologically the first in the series. Upon learning about the death of Natsuki, MC performs some twisted ritual with the help of Amy to travel back in time to learn about the circumstances of her passing and prevent it. The story takes inspiration from Makoto Mobius and the original Corpse Party. The true end is unlocked by getting all the previous six endings in numerical order.
Doki Doki Carpe Diem: Our first ever mod and the only to not be coded by MrRocketman999. MC wants to celebrate his anniversary with Monika by taking her out and having a special day together after being dedicated to one another for so long. This takes inspiration from the kinetic visual novel Carpe Diem and illustrates the importance of what it means to seize the day and live with no regrets.
Doki Doki Tainted Love: After graduating, MC spends the summer at his grandmother's home in the country with his childhood friend Kotonoha. He invites the other girls from the club, although Monika is the only one who is able to meet up with him. There, Kotonoha and Monika find themselves at odds when old feelings and conflict arise. This mod is heavily inspired by School Days and Yanderella. It is one of the darkest in the series by far and illustrates how something innocent like love can be tainted by feelings of anger and jealousy. When I first made the original download post, I was very coy and secretive about the mod's shift in tone. However, after the backlash I got, I'm just going to straight-up tell you that there are A LOT of dark moments in this story and a major shift in tone around all three endings. There are no secret endings here, just two optional endings and one true ending.
Doki Doki Captive Heart: In a universe where the Literature Club does not exist, MC finds himself confessing to his longtime crush Monika after a bit of "divine intervention." To his shock, Monika accepts and invites him over to dinner at her house. As the evening progresses and he goes down a rabbit hole of cryptic diary scraps hidden around her house, he starts to question just how much he knows about the girl he's pined for. This mod features an interactive map that allows you to explore Monika's house as you search for clues and is named after the song Captive Heart. The mod takes inspiration from Mikoto Nikki and some from Mirai Nikki/Future Diary. It also takes and reuses a lot of themes and elements from Doki Doki October Horizon, but adds a very sinister twist to them. Monika is not self-aware in this universe and goes through life as an ordinary high school student enduring a lot of stress and high expectations. There were plans for a follow-up to this mod, but those were scrapped. There is a secret true ending to this game, which you can unlock by going through the game a second time after obtaining all previous endings. This ending provides a bit of a clue to the final mod to the PWA.

2023.06.03 11:53 throwrauser456534 Me (F23) suspecting that my partner (M24) cheated on me with a stripper on his work trip.

For the past 2 hours, I have been anxiously pacing through the house, questioning my own sanity. I decided to put thoughts to rest with a bottle of Soju and type away all the mess that is clouding my brain: I think my partner has cheated on me on his work trip.
A little back story, Me (F23) met my boyfriend (M24) through Tinder about 2 years ago. He got this silly meme “Studio Ghibli and Chill” as one of his photos on Tinder and that’s how I swiped right right away (Ghibli movies are my comfort food). When we first started dating, he was so nervous to be himself around me as I was his first relationship ever. However through time, he opened up more to me and has proven to be the best boyfriend I’ve ever had. We went through what every couple goes through: the sweet honeymoon phrase, the rough patches, the ups and downs. But it was so worth it, he was my soulmate.
Back to the story, recently he has to go on a work trip in another big city for a week. I have been missing him (we have been living together for nearly a year now and this is the first time he has to go for this long) but I have also been enjoying all the apartment to myself. Anyway, a couple of days ago, he told me he wanted to go to the Casinos and since I knew about his ‘tradition’ with the boys before meeting me was that after a big win at the CAS, you go see some strippers. I told him I’m not comfortable for him to go see a stripper when he is in a committed relationship. He took it really well and told me he wouldn’t do anything that would jeopardise our relationship and I believed him wholeheartedly. Fast forward to today’s afternoon, my phone went out of battery so I logged onto his PC, which was already connected to our TV in the living room because I wanted to play Mario Kart while he’s gone and we don’t own a Switch at the moment. I was searching for different cafes for tomorrow brunch with the girls. I made sure to go through each cafe’s location to find one in between us so that we don’t have to travel so far to meet each other. Anyway since the map was under his Google Account, I could see his recent searches and Low and Behold: He has searched for the strip club he has been to multiple times before meeting me. I couldn’t help but jump straight to the conclusion that he has cheated on me. I could feel all the blood pulsing through every vessel. Maybe you guys must think what the hell is she thinking jumping straight to conclusions like that, I have been cheated on before in my past relationship so I feel like my restored trust issues are now out the window. I called him crying, honestly maybe this was a bad move, but I didn’t know what to do but called and questioned him immediately. Of course he denied and said that he searched for the strip club’s name to take a screenshot of the place and sent it through his group chat with the boys. When I told him to show me receipts or proofs, he said that he couldn’t since everything was on SnapChat, and that he had deleted the screenshot immediately after, even in his ‘Recently Deleted’ file. I was so livid at that point and I didn’t know what to think, I just kept crying. I think that made him upset so he told me I just have to trust him and asked if I’m gonna be like that during the next time we’re apart. He said I have no proof that he has cheated and just because he searched for the strip club doesn’t mean that he’s cheated. We ended the call both extremely upset and angry.
Now what I learned from the past relationship was to be wary and investigate everything. So I logged into his Facebook to see if he has messaged the Boys about the visit at all. Now, I know some of you might think I have absolutely no right to go through his stuff. You’re right, but I didn’t care at this point. I was desperate to see something that would deny the fact that he has broken my trust. I went through his chat with his brother and found out that he has been bragging to him about his wins at the Casino last night. So his brother replied with “Strip Club’s name_?” He replied with “OATH”. At this point, I just wanted to bang my head against the wall, pass out and wait for this nightmare to pass. Again, maybe I should not have called him straightaway with this newly found information but I couldn’t wait. I confronted him. This time he sounded more calm, but sad, very very sad. He said he had been thinking about the call earlier and thought he didn’t treat me with any respect, and that he shouldn’t get upset. He told me the messages between his brother and him were a joke that he didn’t actually go. He apologised for hurting me regardless whether that was a joke or not. He insisted that he had not cheated on me and everything was a joke between him and the boys and that he couldn’t imagine things escalated this far. He then told me he understood if I wanted to leave him because he did hurt me, but that he loved me a lot and he would do anything to help me rebuild trust again. I said I needed to think and hung up.
Now I’m typing all this out on Reddit and asking strangers on the internet to help me shed light on this situation. Should I trust him just based on his words?? Did he actually cheat on me and try to cover this up?
TLDR: I think my boyfriend has cheated on me with a stripper on his work trip.

Gold Coast needs updating Google Maps Satellite Imaging!
So much of it is so out of date, roads and housing developments over what was bush/golf courses, and the G:link tracks barely appear. Seems to be worse around the newer northern areas. Anyone got an idea how old some of the images are?

2023.06.03 09:25 crogonint List of Alternate Barovian Maps which are Needed

I'm pretty sure that the majority of Barovian content creators have already seen some version of this list. I actually went back to update my original post of the list to discover that I never made my own post of it! I put together the first version of this list a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure this is the most complete list of its kind anywhere: Alternate areas of Barovia that are commonly needed, besides the commonly published CoS specific battlemaps:
0) The (Dark) Carnival - nobody ever makes maps / assets for this, even though gobs of people always throw it in to their campaign, even though it's old as crap. I understand that there's a Carnival Realm in the new VRGtR book.. I'll probably never use the realm-carnival, but that's a second place the Dark Carnival maps/assets could be used. There are also a trio of third party Ravenloft carnival modules as well that they could be used in.
1) Battlemap sized maps of the towns. At LEAST a 5 foot per square / hex map for the tiger chase. (Obviously modern VTT platforms don't actually need the grid on the map. ;) )
2) Random shops, stables, blacksmiths and generic places the party is likely to go anyway.
3) Generic encounter locations.. country roads / rivers / bridges and combinations of the three. It sounds dumb because you can get generic encounter maps like that anywhere.. but it would be AWESOME to have matching Barovian roads and Svalitch woods on all of your encounter maps. Don't forget the specific crossroads with the gallows from CoS.. I don't recall if there were hanging cages mentioned, but you could throw in some PNG options for them.
4) A covered bridge, including the roof, deck and under views. (To tack on to the Headless Horseman add-in.) The Woodcutters hut as well.
5) Besides the Carnival, there are a few other old school modules that people like to bolt on to CoS (Adam, etc. etc.).
6) DragnaCarta, MandysMod and Pyram King have all developed alternate encounters and a handful of setting that might be able to use an alternate map here and there. (Orphanage.) In particular, I recall battles in/near the bogs, on mountain sides with/without roads and watch towers. Military and outfitter style tent interiors and exteriors and camps placed.. you know what? Make those camps be PNG assets that could be dropped in a bog, next to a river or on a mountain side as needed. ;) I recall Lunch Break Heroes making an encounter for Borgia/Borca, but I don't recall if they made any scenarios / encounters for Barovia. I got a special request for Beneath the Abbey.
7) The Interactive Tome of Strahd sends the party back in time and would be a PHENOMENAL set of maps to expand Barovia. Seriously, you could drop those on DMsGuild and make some bank. Some additionally pre-Strahd bright and shiny versions of the village of Barovia and other basic maps might be nice for some throw-back adventures.
8) Retro Castle Ravenloft.. Castle Ravenloft fully restored to its former glory! (Castle Barovia? I picture it as more of a walled garrison, looking like a giant stone bubble from a distance, but it did have at least one tower overlooking the cliff.) We know that the old pre-Strahd castle had multiple floors located in roughly the same place as Castle Ravenloft, but with significantly different floor plans, as the ghosts walk staircases and pass through doorways that don't exist anymore. :D (Important side-note: Strahd did not grow up in Castle Ravenloft. I believe that there is one (1) painting of him looking out over Yesterhill, through the mists at a vision of the castle he grew up in, but I don't think anyone has ever tackled it.)
9) The caverns and the alter area in and under the Pillarstone of Ravenloft (from Expedition to Ravenloft) are frequently added in to CoS. I've never seen a map of a hidden cavern entrance in the Svalitch woods, let alone a set of creepy Barovian caverns.. or the Castle side of the entrance, for that matter.
10) Around a decade ago, some weirdo drew an artistic image of Castle Ravenloft with the foundation bedrock rotted away under it. I'd like to see a detailed elevation map of the curtain wall and gatehouse with the bedrock still under the curtain wall, because that irritates me to no end. NOBODY would build a massive curtain wall on a questionable foundation. Reference Vlads actual castle (which is admittedly ten times smaller than Ravenloft) for a rather specific example of a (THE) castle built on the side of a cliff. As I recall, if looking at the gatehouse, the left side and back left corner of Vlads actual castle are protected by a cliff, and that's where the inspiration for Castle Ravenloft came from.
11)Speaking of elevation, at the other end of Castle Ravenloft are balconies and windows jutting out over the cliff. I'd love to see detailed maps of those areas, an 'ant sized' map of the Svalitch woods and Barovia as seen from the castle, and an elevation map of the cliff-side reaching from the Svalitch woods up past the windows and balconies to the Curtain wall. Parties occasionally decide to attempt to scale the cliff. Having a cliff and curtain wall that actually matches would be awesome.
12) Odd ball areas we never see. The druids must have huts or a village somewhere. The Roc must have a nest somewhere. The Mad Mage in Barovia has one of either a tower / cavern / pocket dimension somewhere. We could use Barovian flavored versions of all three. Oh, and the woods and encounters with said mage on the backside of the lake.. so a lake / forested area with spread out trees for players to run in terror or attempt to attack at range.. or whatever.
13) UNDER Lake Zarovich, there are a handful of generic encounters. There are also a few river monster encounters, generally near the Berez Swamp, could use a lair map and an underwater river encounter map, Barovia flavored. Speaking of Berez, I've never seen a detailed large scale swamp map for the Berez Swamp.. let alone the whole town being overrun by the swamp.
14) A proper Berez Swamp. A full sized swamp, with river banks, fields of cattail and reeds, murky backwaters, underwater groves of trees, and a couple of dozen oddly shaped islets and sandbanks.. a few dead logs.. not to mention a proper full sized assortment of Berez town ruins.
15) What's the village in the Adventurer's Guild Supplements?? Orasnou! There's a tiny village there (the size most people depict Berez as, because the CoS book doesn't describe the whole town of Berez properly). So that map is needed, along with.. 4 interior maps, if I recall? (Probably more, + a manor.) As well as an alternate werewolf lair and a few others, like a Barovian bluff, again if I recall off of the top of my head. I've had requests for the Gundarak villages Teufeldorf, Zeidenburg and Renika, as well as the other minor villages and..
16) The complete map of Barovia, post Grand Conjunction (done in standard modern style/graphics).
17) Various encounters have been depicted on Mount Baratok. Which would be a stark stone mountain, snowy and generally above the treeline, not like the hilly tree covered mountains where Argynvostholt and the Roc and etc. are located. I think a largish rocky encounter map of the mountainside would be the first needed. I (seem to) recall a three tiered monastery built on the side of a cliff, with a freshwater spring enclosed that would require an elevation map along with three small interioexterior maps showing the wooden stairs going up and down the cliff-side. I recall one encounter involving a lai small cave sized area.
18) Lots of people want Van Richtens magic shop and other stuff described in his escapades. We could also use a handful of Vistani Vardos and Camps. If I recall, there are only two described in the CoS book, but there are many more tribes of Vistani than that, and we're told that they move around frequently. If might be easier to provide PNG files for the vardos, outfitter tents and assets for a large scale camp. Come to think of it, there aren't a whole lot of tokens for those smallish horses they use either, so someone might whip up 10-12 smallish shaggy horses with unique patterns to show off. They don't care one ounce for a horses pedigree, and are more than happy to keep unique looking mongrel horses as their personal caravan animals. They use mountain horse stock when breeding their horses, so they would be a bit hairier and stockier then say an Arabian.. just scaled closer to a pony size. Donkey size! They're donkey sized horses. :D ..real donkey size, if I recall 5e has some weirdness going on with their official donkey/wagon sizes that makes no sense at all for Vardos sized horses and wagons like the Vistani would have.
19) The valley where the village of Barovia is located is described as a massive fertile farming area, yet we never see any medieval farms, ranches, graineries or farmers markets for Barovia. Definitely need a few of those. Barovian farmers and ranchers would SPECIFICALLY all have the buildings that (in the real world) later became fortifications, Thick werewolf proof walls and heavily barricaded doors everywhere. No window on the ground floor. Livestock was housed indoors, in enclosed courtyards with family areas wrapped around them, or with the animals on the ground floor and the family living above on the second floor. Horse stalls and farrowing areas would be fenced off within the area. Graineries would be large round wooden buildings with barricaded doors and sturdy out-buildings. 10 foot tall max, today's 4-5 story tall graineries are a modern invention. There would probably be a large stone community grainery far on the other side of the valley from the Village of Barovia. for that matter, there ought to be a functioning grainery or warehouse somewhere between the Village of Barovia and Bonegrinder. ALSO, if Bonegrinder is no longer being used as a mill, there would HAVE to be another windmill or waterwheel driven mill somewhere else in Barovia. Many artists have envisioned a water-wheel grainery on the River Ivlis near the Village of Barovia. Corn cribs would be on the second floor of a barn for drying grain, doubling up to dry bales of hay, not primarily as a hay loft. PNGs for 2-3 styles of fencing and gates, water troughs, and some medieval horse drawn plows and rakes would be nice. Dog kennels!! Every farm would probably have it's own horse pasture or rink with a training post, and a dog kennel or run for dogs to run during the day. You know those giant mastiffs that the Barovian nobles are so fond of? Yeah, the farmers in the fertile valley near Barovia would be the only ones rich enough to be able to afford to raise those pups for the nobles. Somewhere out here would be a medieval rancher set up to raise mastiff puppies with an assortment of full grown mastiffs. Mongrel pups or runts would be sold off to neighboring farms at a discount. Roaming wolves would stay FAR away from them, and werewolf packs would likely attack them for any reason at all (if they could find a way in to the basin). I picture a LARGE farmers market and stockyards just inside the River Ivlis bridge of the Valley of Barovia. We know that Barovia is a trade center.. so there MUST be one. The bridge would offer protection if needed, and it would be the closest place farmers and ranchers could set up to provide commerce with the other villages and domains and still have the protection of being inside the gates. Hmm.. they might have a dirt race track there for showing off horses going up for sale. Make that very probably, The Vistani/Romani are famous for defending their mountain horses at the drop of a hat. This would be the main place of commerce for farmers goods in Barovia. This is (the main area) where Vistani Caravans would import and export farm goods in to and out of Barovia.
20) There would absolutely be homestead (small) sized farms and ranches carved out up in mountain valleys or even on mountain sides facing south. In fact, a south facing mountain side might get enough sunlight to raise delicate crops, spices and herbs, whereas most of Barovia can't, due to the mists blocking the sunlight. Also, a couple of mountain pastures with matching rocks / trees bordering them would be nice. Honestly though, if you pass out some rock and tree assets that match the ones you already use, anybody could throw together their own mountain pastures, or even their own valley pastures. Rows of crops are hard to find though! You could easily have scenarios of wolves/werewolves hunting the party in a cornfield.. but there are no Barovian cornfield battlemaps. ACTUALLY, I don't think I have any battlemap sized crop assets, and I probably have the largest collection of map assets around. You could probably sell these farming assets/maps on DriveThruRPG and DMsGuild as well, I've never seen them anywhere. ..OR you might ask Forgotten Adventures or Tom Cartos to throw some together, whatever seems clever. :) I've been asked specifically to try to get Yaedrag (barbarian-esque village in the mountains that Dragna wrote up) made up.
21) Jenny Greenteeth's Hut.. perhaps a grove of her untainted trees from the Quivering Forest? (Also the Glumpen Swamp and Vanishing Hills, various locations within these.) I picture the Quivering Forest loaded with fruit and nut trees and songbirds fighting for real estate (the text mentions angry squirrels).. surrounded by classic Svalitch Woods half-dead spooky trees. ;) I recall seeing a couple of versions that roughly followed the description given in DDAL04, but they're just a hut, not the whole barrow surrounding her hut as described. Additionally, many artists have upscaled her hut to be a small trading post, and put it on wooden poles, swamp style (never seen a battlemap of it, though). Lots of room for creative renditions there. :)
22) Another thing that I haven't seen ANYBODY making is small abbeys. The hills and mountains of Barovia are said to be littered with small abbeys. ..some of them abandoned, some not.
23) Abandoned mansions and manors. Strahd massacred the noble families of Barovia for their involvement in his father's murder. There is one legend of a nobleman possessed by a demon that Strahd left alive, as a curse 'worse than death'. At any rate, there ought to be a handful of abandoned / haunted mansions and manors dotting the Barovian countryside for the party to stumble in to (or check out due to a hook dropped by an informative villager).
24) There are currently NO mines in the CoS version of Barovia.. bizarre for a mountain country. It would suit that some of those decimated noble families ran some mines that have since been abandoned. Of course, it wouldn't do to host your standard monsters in a Barovian mine. I'm thinking Lair of the White Worm. Something more horrifying than dungeoneering.
25) It's been mentioned that instead of murdering the losers from the werewolf trials, they might be shipped off to be slaves in a mine, or to a plantation in the swamp. The plantation would be stick construction, as you would expect in a swamp, they would collect tubers and reeds that grow in the swamp, not traditional plantation type crops.
26) The various Barovian villages NOT included on Schleys map of (Central) Barovia usually have a town sized map plotted out and published somewhere, but no really decent overview maps or battlemap sized maps of them exist. (This need might easily be filled by a couple of handfuls of generic Barovian village buildings, field-stone and dirt street assets, and sundry village constructions.
27) Besides the Gates of Barovia, there are supposed to be watch-towers dotting the landscape as well. An operational watchtower and a couple of partially ruined ones would be awesome.

Assets nobody has made like the Dark Carnival and lake/river encounters and the Mad Mages various lair options would be the most needed. I simply don't understand why EVERY CoS map developer doesn't provide matching roads, forests, rivers and generic shops with matching Barovian assets. The maps I mentioned which you could make money selling on DriveThruRPG and DMsGuild (to me) would just be silly NOT to make. ...Van Richtens magic shop is requested a LOT. When the party first enters Barovia, I can picture them being chased in to a fortified farm by a pack of dire wolves / werewolves at dusk (perhaps the first couple of farms won't unbarricade their doors). I'm sure you can see the utility of the rest. Will everybody need a Roc nest on a cliff above the forest? No. Will DMs derail their campaign for a minute just for the opportunity to make the party loot a Roc nest? Yes. :
Finally, I would note that since I wrote this list, a few cartographers have added some of the above locations to their Library, but the vast majority of these are as of yet, untouched. :)

2023.06.03 04:59 LinusRanger13 Breaking Down The Timeline of Season Six

Hello, you beautiful human beings. I, like many of you, am chronically online.
You may remember me from last year when I pieced together, in excruciating detail, the timelines of season four. (If you don't, yes, I do exist. 🥲)
Well, folks, I'm BACK! And while I won't be writing my usual snarky commentary, I did want to provide you with crucial info about when most of season six was filmed. Using paparazzi shots, Instagram posts, news headlines, and fan videos, I pieced together many of the scenes from this season to see when exactly this season was filmed.
DISCLAIMERS:
1.) Yes, I know it's a reality show, which doesn't always present "reality." I'm doing this for fun.
2.) I didn't grab the filming date from every scene; that would've taken too long... and I have to go outside at some point. I know that the cast may not post any pics the same day they were taken, so I did my best to cross-reference each post with other cast members and paparazzi shots to ensure maximum accuracy. Again, this is all for fun, and I may not even be 100% correct, but I did my best.
3.) I missed episode six, "Mary In The Middle," because I fell asleep watching it (not that it was boring, I was just too high). But you get the gist. Enjoy!

Episode 601 - “I Wanted To Hate You”
Scene 2 - Mary @ Penthouse project visiting Romain. Filmed on August 19th, 2022
Scenes 3 and 4 Intercut with each other:
Scene 6 (final scene) - Emma’s open house. Jason/Chrishell tell each other they’re over each other by saying they have partners decades younger than them. Bre thinks Chelsea is a triflin' ass hoe. This scene was filmed on/around August 26th, 2022

Episode 602 - “TBD on Bre”
Scene 2 - Chrishell “returns” back to the office. Nicole tells the camera that she doesn’t fuck with Chrishell. Bre confronts Chelsea during the team meeting about Emma's broker's open. Filmed on August 25th, 2022

Episode 603 - “Old Deals Die Hard”
Scene 1 - Amanza, Chelsea, and Heather tour Manhattan Beach home and fulfill their dreams of seeing a home with a stripper pole. Filmed on/around September 1st, 2022
Scene 2 - Jason brings his 25-year-old and criminally young girlfriend, Mary Lou, to the office. Filmed on August 28th, 2022 (a Sunday!)
Scene 4 - Mary/Romain and Jason/Mary Lou's date night, paid for by the production team. Filmed on October 7th, 2022
Scene 5 - Mary, Heather, and Nicole discuss meeting Jason’s girlfriend. Filmed on/around August 19th, 2022, a week before they “actually” met in scene 2.
Scene 6 (Final scene) - Chelsea’s open house in Manhattan Beach. Bre tells Emma to steer mothafuckin' CLEAR of her billionaires. Nicole and Chrishell have a blowout in front of clients, co-stars, and the cameraman. This remarkable scene, which made it to the headlines, was filmed on August 31st, 2022.

Episode 604 - “Between You and Bre”
Scene 1 - Heather and Bre are looking at a house that I, like everything else in this show, cannot afford. Filmed on/around September 8th, 2022
Scene 4 - Heather’s birthday dinner. Filmed on September 15th, 2022
Scene 5 (final scene) - Chelsea tells Heather, Amanza, and Nicole about Bre’s reaction to Nick Cannon creating his own colony (aka, having another baby). Filmed on/around September 16th, 2022

Episode 605 - “Miss Management”
Scene 2: Bre shows Hollywood home to Telli Swift. Filmed on September 8th, 2022
Scene 5: Nicole and Chelsea hash out their "differences." Filmed on November 9th, 2022, nearly two months after the rest of the episode takes place
Scene 6 (final scene): Girls at the office, Mary questions Chelsea’s common sense and pricing on the Manhattan Beach listing, and Chelsea/Mary have a 1:1 on the drama. Filmed on/around September 16th, 2022

Episode 607 - “If You Can’t Stand The Heat”
Scene 1 - Girls talking at the office regarding Chelsea selling a home, Jason leaving again, and their upcoming trip to Palm Springs*.*
Scene 4 - Amanza and Bre discuss office drama while everyone else is in Palm Springs.

Episodes 608/609 - “Bre Bites Back” and “Lawsuits and Listings”
All Palm Springs scenes were filmed between October 4th, 2022 - October 7th, 2022

Episode 610 - “Something’s Gotta Give”

Scene 3: Mary shows some of the girls the final product of the ridiculously overpriced penthouses. Filmed on October 20th, 2022
Scene 5 (finale scene): Penthouse open party. Filmed on October 25th, 2022

2023.06.03 03:44 tempestuousknave [Online][5E][UTC-05] Sunday Morning Party of Three looking for a Fourth

System: 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons
Platform: Discord (Voice) + Foundry
Time: 7:00AM Central, Sunday mornings
Age: 30+
Prior Sessions: 5
Level: 3
Party comp: An assassin, a hexblade and a war cleric walk into a bar...
Blurb: A democratic state is wedged between two restive nations, maintaining independence through delicate balance of power and keen diplomacy. To the North the tyrant king expands his reportedly undead reach. To the South a thousand year dynasty faces upheaval as the royals fall in battle and allegiances are shaken. Elves meddle, dwarves raid, gnomes boil children and halflings boil potatoes. Amidst this turbulent backdrop, you, noble adventurer, seek to exterminate rats and fetch macguffins for a few silver more.
World: Homebrew window dressing on a popular third party setting.
Game type: Fairly-classic-fantasy, fiction first with a little bit of crunch. Low-moderate lethality - death is a possibility but not a certainty.
DM: 42/he/him, only played the last 5-10 years. Pretty well grounded in mechanics, not so much with the lore. There may be discrepancies between my characterization and DnD canon; I’m okay with that.
Party: Heroic/good leaning. 4 is ideal. 50% is quorum. Present players may pilot absent players’ characters. Frequently absent or late players will be replaced.
Players: 30+, punctual, attentive, team oriented. Should be willing to do a little work out of session to be prepared for their role in session.
Content: There will be violence and a bit of foul language, but let’s not get too descriptive in that vein. Rape, racism, and sexual assault aren’t themes I’d like to explore. Everyone at the table should feel comfortable.
Maps: Always for battle. I find theater of the mind combat arbitrary and capricious. Battlemaps will be 25% gorgeous maps that I sourced, 50% crummy maps that I’ve made, and 25% grid and rough sketches because I wasn’t expecting things to happen. I’m not a fan of world maps. I mean I love them, just not as party GPS. No hex-crawling here.
Character Creation:
House Rules
Fractional Rest Variant: Allows casters to recover a portion of expended resources every day rather than weekly (gritty) or between arcs (safe haven).
How to apply Send a message here or an email to my gmail-same name. Tell me enough about yourself to get a sense of you. Bonus for commentary/criticism/concerns regarding the house rules. I'll do an interview on the weekend. You interview me, I'll interview you. Applying that mindset -that it's not about getting accepted but about finding the right match for all interested parties- to any interview, job or game, typically means people interview better and enjoy themselves more, and with any luck find the right match for all involved parties.

2023.06.03 03:38 Difficult-Sell660 Living on a busy(ish?) street, would love your input!

Hello San Marcos !
I found a house I'd live to live in but it's on Academy St. in San Marcos. I'm moving to san marcos in the summer but currently live in Houston so I'm not super familiar with the san marcos roads. I noticed on google maps it looks like a somewhat busier street, so I wanted to get y'alls opinion. Do y'all think it's a pretty busy street, would you consider it unsafe?
I have a dog and I'm so terrified of him accidentally escaping while someone is going in and out of the house and being hit by a car since it's a busier street. I've always lived on quiet streets and dead ends. What do yall think?

2023.06.03 02:06 tuulikki__ [Aether][Siren][FC] Friendly, easygoing FC looking for more friends!

Looking for friendly players to chat and do content with? Searching for a chill place to hang out and enjoy the game at your own pace? Seeking a community of mature, like-minded people to be a part of?
Keepers of the Mists «Mist» may be the place for you! All players are welcome, regardless of experience or playtime. Our members typically skew older (out of college, “adulting”), but we care much more about maturity and mentality.
Our Philosophy
As a friendly, easygoing FC with a focus on being inclusive and supportive, we strive for a close-knit and personal atmosphere where our members aren’t just names, and random discussions on whatever topics—from game lore to hobbies, from raid strategies to food recipes—are always encouraged. We aim to cultivate a thoughtful and understanding community where players can relax, unwind, and be themselves. Life can be stressful enough; no need for the game to add to it as well!
About Us
«Mist» split off from a larger Free Company a little while ago and, when we couldn’t find another with the sense of community we were looking for, we decided to establish our own. We're continually looking to improve and make things better for the members, so we’re always open to ideas and feedback.
We have players working on everything from clearing end-game content to crafting, glams, and achievement hunting; we recognize that everyone has their own in-game goals and real life responsibilities, and we aim to help wherever we can. Most of us have completed Endwalker, but not necessarily all the side content and we are always happy to share in the joy of discovery as players progress through the story.
Generally, we're online in the evenings (Central/Eastern time), with a handful working from home (or with less traditional schedules) sometimes afk'ing in-game throughout the day for casual chatter.
Accommodations
We have an FC house (currently under decoration) overlooking the Empyreum's hot springs where the chocobo stables are attended to regularly.
Minions, mounts, orchestrion rolls, and other freebies are in the FC chest, including color-changing fruits and leveling items for your chocobo. We also try to supply Fashion Report item sets (free 60k+ MGP weekly!) when possible, and our gathering and crafting-inclined members would be happy to help you with gear and items!
Reduced teleportation costs and increased battle exp are up 24/7, except for Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays) when we have increased MGP. Other FC buffs are available for events or upon request.
Events & Activities
Events are run based on member interest and appetite; anyone can suggest activities, check interest, or host/request an event, and everyone is encouraged to do so! Things we’ve done run the gamut from daily roulettes to mount farms to Treasure Maps and PvP (just for fun)--anything is game if someone wants to do it! We’ve even done some progression-based events for those looking to get into harder content. We do try to take preferences and schedules into account to accommodate as many as possible.
For larger events, we’ll often poll interest beforehand and, every so often, we’ll have glam challenges, venue visits, and other more social activities, too. Currently, we have events on Wednesday, Maps on Sundays, and occasionally something on Saturday.
We do have a Discord server, but participation is not required; we mainly use it for coordination, resources, and out-of-game socializing.
~~~
If you think we would be a good fit for you, please reach out! To be able to get a better idea of what you’re looking for, we ask that you fill out this short survey:
https://forms.gle/aeSsPMsrvypLwcnV6
We'll try our best to get back to you within the week (depending on your preferred communication method) and go from there.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
2023.06.03 01:38 octavianreddit Suggesting an edit is not working.
Google Maps has the address for my townhouse at the back of the property. This causes people using Maps to go to the street behind my house.
I've used the suggest an edit now several times. I always get an email saying they got my submission. Sometimes the address is fixed for a few days then reverts back, other times it never changes.
It's crazy how much this actually impacts you as delivery people constantly go to the wrong place, even when I add notes telling them google is wrong and to head one street West instead.
Any recourse for this? I know how to make the edit. I actually did the edit for my neighbours and their addresses have been fixed permanently by me....ironically my address is never fixed permanently.
Thanks!
Was I wrong for this? Got the order cancelled because the address they put on doordash was slightly wrong. The E was in the wrong spot but that made a pretty significant difference in location.
I feel kinda bad because it's such a tiny mistake and the 2nd address they provided wasn't THAT much farther but I had already wasted a lot of time on the order because the maps apps brought me to 2 different spots.
2023.06.03 00:22 MouniaDeMa 24(f) broke up emotional abusive relationship, ADHD, low self worth; how did you find love for yourself even though you think less of yourself?
I am not a native english speaker, apologies in advance! I am sorry i believe this communtiy is great!! always brings a smile on my face. This is an impulsive post haha i will probably delete it later. i typed this in one go, a bit impulsive and i am sorry if I come off wrong.
It is a really long text so I am already grateful for just posting it here. It is almost impossible to go through this illeterate english bible chapter haha so i understand.
Thanks again this forum is great! You guys are my inspiration; being proud of who you are, and seeing ADHD as something to embrace.
Well, The relationship lasted six years from ages 19 24. Despite his flaws, my partner was kind, patient, and loving when he didn't have anger issues.It was my first relationship, and I had never been in love or had sex before.
I always knew deep down that his actions were not okay, but he would confuse me with moments of kindness.
Now, in a moment of clarity, I realize how easily he made me feel like I was wrong and how it affected my self-esteem.I feel weak, embarrassed, and insecure after years of being with him. At the same time, I am really grateful for all the happy moments, and there is a part of me that feels like i am wrong for saying these things, as it is not "truly" him. I feel so weak, i tried therapy, but even my cogntive behavioral therapist literal words were "you have no identity" during hard topics you switch the subject, ask for validation. I spoke later with a counselor from school, who told me it is unproffesional and therapy can take a long time, so I should not be disencouraged.
The relationship had a negative impact on my mental health at the same time i never felt so happy in those good moments, so loved , and I now question if he played a role in my increased sadness and depression.He made me feel like I was on top of the world while kicking me down, and I feel like a failure.
However, I blocked out many negative moments because of the positive ones and realizing now so much more, such as these examples:
He had many good qualities and gestures, such as driving long distances to see me, planning romantic outings, being great with children and animals, and cooking for me every single day cause he liked to do so, plannign surprise birthdays for my mom, driving my mom to the hospital, he could be very positive overall and joyful; people, everyone around me loved him and would say; it is easy to love him
Now listening back to the voice messages i send, i notice once i brought up the fact that the arguments were not okay, he told me he doesnt deserve that, i should find somebody else, that i cannot reapeat this a thousand times it is not true.
I supported him throughout the years, i told him that he doesnt deserve to feel this way in his anger cause he is amazing and I am sorry for him and with help we can overcome this. He ironically joked"youre gonna pay for my sessions"?. He spends 400 euros in the month on weed (i am cool with smoking, i do it too sometimes), but then i am a bit sad that he does not want to (as he has the money) and never saw the point.
At the same time, he told me during the break up that i can call him, i should date other people (after one week), and he was serious since he wanted to build a future with me, house, baby and all. He even gave me a diamond ring, which could be symboliic seen he said as a step he said.
I dont think he has any idea......
I am angry at myself for tolerating this behavior and not recognizing the signs earlier.
I always felt guilty for small mistakes and felt like something was wrong with me.
I have a study delay and an unfinished thesis. he graudated before me and found a job in the meantime, drove every weekend two hours to see me. he wanted to move abroad with me.
i was not feeling so great in my skin, and i expressed that i wanted to be more strong, independent, before moving together abroad; i always ignored that deep down I was afraid of not having enough backbone in arguments, and i was afraid abroad in case if i would be alone, plus somehow i still feel like i am not good enough. I am still not graduated (thesis in two weeks to deliver help and i am typing this impulsive text).
Despite his claims of putting more effort into the relationship I realize that I never felt safe enough and always wanted to proof myself. Hoenstly I still want to, for my fam, for him, myself. I just want to be worth.
I apologized repeatedly in voice messages, reminiscing about the good times and questioning what I could have done differently.
Anyways i dont want to self pitty myself, i am grateful to have a roof on top of my head, a family that loves me, food on the table, i am healthy, there are so many blessings.
I am sorry if i come off like i am not grateful. i am sorry if i come off unconsiderable.
I just dont know what to do, what to feel, what to think.
It feels like i am standing still for so long... It is my fault cause i allowed all these things.
I havent seen my friends for more than a year. One week ago a friend came for dinner , this already makes me happy that it is a step in the right direction !
I really dont like who i am. why cant i be more strong?
honestly it feels that i am doing something wrong, speaking so badly about him. I feel guilty and embarassed of myself. He was really kind and loving. I wonder if I would have been more strong, maybe he wouldnt disrespect me like that. Maybe I allowed him too, and I did. So it is my fault.
Still doesnt make it alright.
I hope one day to love myself. Especially before a raise a daughter of my own, Maybe if I ever did, this wouldnt have happened. I am so sad
2023.06.02 23:24 TerrinX8 How to use NoVa/DMV public transport (Bus and DC Metro Guide)
First step, get a 'SmarTrip' card from your closest local metro station. (The cost is only $2 for the card itself and load any amount of money you want, it defaults at 10 but you can lower that, but 6 minimum is best)
You don't need to, but you can log it on the WMATA (DC Metro) website to track how much is on it at home. The card will work on ANY and ALL metro stations and public busses.
I typically use the Fairfax Connector bus service but if you're for example in Falls Church, which is technically independent and outside Fairfax County so it doesn't use the Fairfax Connector, instead the local DC/MD bus system, which is fine because they're all under the WMATA system which is insanely convenient. This also includes Loudoun County, Southern Maryland, etc, so just remember; SmarTrip cards are your friend.
Most WMATA bus fairs are $2 for 2 hours of unlimited rides/transfers between busses. So for example I got on a buss on weds to get home at 12:18 PM, using the 2$ left on my card. So I now had $0.00 on it but I was able to transfer to the bus home without issue, I got home at 1:20-ish.
Then my mom wanted me to drive her home for practice, and it was only 1:40 so I still had a good 35ish left and I caught the bus over to her work free, even though had no money on it, because of the 2 hour grace period. A round trip by bus is typically on $4. (Having a container of change is god tier, lemme tell you, I have fuck tons of quarters just in case. If I'm going to a station where I can use my debit card to load onto my metro card, I sometimes just slap 8 quarters in so I don't have to worry about money being on my card or not and I can add when I get to the station)
Rule of thumb, always be at a bus stop 5 minutes early, because while google maps and the bus schedule text line can be scary accurate, it's always better safe then sorry. Don't let dice rolls hold you back. Same for the metro, always try to go a bit early, just to give yourself more time for stuff like adding money but I'll get into that in a bit.
When on the bus, use google maps and the LED strip that reads out the stop names, once it gets to the stop right before yours, wait till the bus begins moving and then pull the stop cord. The bus driver will stop at the next stop, and not just in the middle of the street. So pulling the cord early just guarantees your stop is selected or they will keep going to save time.
On the metro, it's pretty ez, though prices can be confusing for non-frequent riders. Basically, from 5 am to 9 AM , and 3 PM to 7PM on weekdays, a one way trip can be anywhere from $2.25 - $6.00 depending on how far you go. No idea what "far" is, but usually most trips aren't long enough to reach the 6$ amount. Typically it can be around $3 - $4.25 ish for the average trip distance. 5 or less stops and you'll probably get the $2.25 minimum. - These are "peak" fares.
That leaves 9 AM through 3 PM on weekdays and all day on weekends as "Off Peak" fares, which are $2.00 - $3.85 based on distance. Any time AFTER 9:30 PM specifically are $2 flat.
Also, once you get off the metro after a ride, you still have the 2 hour free bus grace period which hecking dope as hell, so getting around after arriving isn't that bad.
Though I typically walk a lot in DC but I'm spry and full of energy lol, it's tortuous but I don't mind.
When you use your card on the bus and then get on the metro you get like, a 25 cent discount which is negligible but it's just a nice little bonus.
Extra bus tip, if you don'[t have quarters, not enough money on your card, and only like, a $5 bill, you can put in the $5 and then touch your card to the pad, and it will load the remaining $3 dollars onto your card. Hella nifty in a pinch.
Typically my rule of thumb is to have 6 dollars minimum on your card when getting on the metro on weekends and 12 dollars on weekdays. That will be enough to cover you round trip (because the bus fair will be free). Typically this way you often end up with some left over occasionally for bus rides and stuff for when you don't the extra quarters.
Also also if you only have like $1 - 1.75 on you, the bus drivers almost always let you on anyway. So while it's embarrassing, you'll still get where you're going with less issue than you'd realize.
Here's a good resolution map of the DC Metro for convenience too.
Big Circles are stations which allow for transfer between all overlapping lines
Be careful and ride safe! (Please add any extra tips or corrections in the comments!)
2023.06.02 23:17 HobbitQueen8 The Fight Over Location Sharing, Part Whatever
(Reposted in part from the JustNoMIL sub, where they love to dish out advice, whereas here we like commiseration more...lol. Guys I'm STILL suffering this woman and her stalker-ness!!!)
This woman is obsessed with me being an extension of herself. On iPhones, there's this "Find a Friend" app, where you can add your friends and see where their location is. Mother is OBSESSED with it. Added the whole family, and kept finding excuses for me to stay on -as she calls it- the "Stalker App." My naïve father thought, "Doesn't it tell you when someone looks up where you are?" No. And then he just shrugged, bc for him it's always been easier to just agree with my mother and get her to stop complaining faster. Even when I tried getting a new phone, an android, Mother said, "Now you can share your location with me via Google Maps! I already shared mine." I ended up switching back to an iphone for unrelated reasons.
Now for the big problem: She is trying to use my 7-month-old child against me. "I need to see your location if we're watching ." I told her where I would be. That wasn't good enough for her. She wanted to track my every move so she could see when I was on my way back to her house, and she could start counting down the clock from watching my baby, her only grandchild. (Not that she really watches him anyway, it's my father doing all of the work, and she just rattles toys in his face obnoxiously.) When I went to pick up my kid after work at my parents house today, my dad started hounding me because I had already said no to Mother today. He just wants her to shut up, so he does and says whatever, including being rude AF to me to get the job done.
Please help. I'm slowly getting drunk and I'm at my wits end. And yes, daycare is opening up soon, but not soon enough, and Husband is a teacher, so thank sanity school is over is two weeks, too.
(For more context: When we asked her to watch our house bc COVID stranded us in a different country, she copied all our house keys without permission, and didn't tell us till later when she said it was "inconvenient" for her to use the spare keyset we had provided her.)
2023.06.02 23:12 HobbitQueen8 Stalker Mom
For the first time (I believe), I'm posting about my own mother. I asked Husband what I should do, and he just said this is 33 years of abuse, and he doesn't know how to help me.
My mother is a narcissist. My entire childhood was psychological warfare, with the occasional smacking around. When I got in trouble, I would flee to my room, and my parents would scream at each other downstairs. An indeterminate amount of time later, I was expected to come down for dinner and act like everything was fine, and we would never discuss anything. And when you flee family relationships full of manipulation, you tend to run towards them, because psychologically, you're comforted by the familiarity, so that didn't help. Anyway, here I am, 13 years later with my husband who is the sweetest man, and loves me for who I am.
This woman is obsessed with me being an extension of herself. On iPhones, there's this "Find a Friend" app, where you can add your friends and see where their location is. Mother is OBSESSED with it. 2023.06.02 22:54 Pavel_Sergievsky Ukraine vs. Russia: Russian perspective.
Dear Professor Peterson,
I realize that your schedule probably won’t allow you to read this letter, least to reply. I am not expecting either of these and will not be offended. Why do I write it, then? Well, most probably because in the past several years you have been for me the voice of reason from abroad. Too many things are going in a crazy and disastrous direction, and listening to your lectures and videos have been very inspiring. It always amazes me how deeply you investigate the problem and how thoroughly you analyze it. In many cases listening to what you say have been like hearing what I always felt was true, but could not formulate and justify it myself. Thank you for that experience.
During the past year, which not only attracted the whole world’s attention to a conflict in Ukraine (at last, I’d say, war started there in 2014), but also demonstrated the unwillingness of countries and people to hear each other, I felt the growing urge to share Russian understanding of current situation and of the events that lead to it with someone who could probably be able to hear. Your name was the first to come to my mind. I hesitated until some time ago I came across the interview that you have recorded – “Israel, Russia, China, Iran: The World in Conflict” and it actually triggered me into writing. It occurred to me that, objective as you are, you may be unaware of some facts and interpretations, partly because modern media have mastered the art of being silent about some facts while shouting about the others, partly because you were born and raised in Anglo-Saxon civilization, with all embedded ideas and principles.
A bit about my background. Master’s degree in English language and literature, spent one year as a student in Connecticut, worked in American-owned companies for 17 years. That allows me to a certain degree to understand both sets of values.
I wanted to offer for your attention the view from the other side on what’s happening now between Russia and Western European civilization. I don't say that it is correct, I just say how Russians see it.
Very briefly, just point by point:
3 basic principles of western foreign policy
Looking at the international events of past 30-40 years, we may see 3 basic principles of international policy that the West is utilizing.
  1. Democracy is the best possible society model.
Hard to argue – there is the strongest correlation between availability of human rights in society and its prosperity. Let’s accept it as it is, although it is much more complicated and there are other factors that should be taken into account, like, for example:
a) Majority of Noble prize winners are from protestant countries. Disproportional majority if you look at country population or wealth or other factors. Why? Maybe because Protestantism urges its followers to read the Bible on their own, whereas in Catholicism you study Bible under the priest’s guidance. Encouragement for independent research must have some effect.
b) After the ancient Rome fell, and Europe lived through the Dark Ages, Arabian countries preserved much of knowledge and science. At that time Arabian East was much more cultural and civilized than Europe. What happened to them later, why they stopped developing science, how could Europe overtake them? One of the explanations is that at some point of time Muslim theologians declared that “Koran has everything”, so scientific research stopped. The legend says that under this slogan the Library of Alexandria has been burnt by Arabian conquerors.
c) There is an interesting correlation between the agricultural conditions in a certain territory and some national traits of character. That’s more than a coincidence. For example, wheat was the main crop in Europe. It doesn’t require any special irrigation, so you can well grow and harvest it alone. That means you are less dependent on other people. Hence smaller states (Germany before mid-XIX century consisted of dozens independent states), hence more independent opinions. Compare it to China. Rice requires serious irrigation works, you’ll never do it alone. In order to harvest rice, you need to organize a fairly large group of people to do a job together. And as the population grows, you need to perform those works at a larger scale, also because the easiest-to-work fields are already busy. As a result, we see that Chinese value the society more than they value an individual. A single person sacrificing his wishes for the good of the others is more acceptable for them than for Europeans.
This idea needs further thinking but it is quite possible that the liberalism and human rights developed in Western Europe to the extent we see due to a unique combination of religion, natural conditions and other factors. And it can’t be copied in other parts of the world. It can be brought to other parts of the world by immigration of people with European mentality, of course. But otherwise it can be done only by complete mentality change of local inhabitants. Not an easy task, could take generations and mean death of local culture.
  1. All people are seeking freedom and democracy, so it is our duty to help them achieve this goal. If some part of the society resists this help, it is the tyrannical part and it should be eliminated.
Yeah, really. Take up the White Man's burden… This idea is not dead yet, with all its prejudices.
In some part such understanding is based on the theory that appeared in history (history as a science!) in the UK in 18th century. This theory states that the process of human society development over time is a) linear and b) goes through the same stages in every society of the planet. One of the consequences of this theory was the statement that every society started from matriarchate – researchers came across some primitive society, ruled by women, and made their conclusion. This theory has long been proved wrong, but its influence is still alive.
Even if we accept that all countries, all societies are aiming at maximizing human rights, how justified will interference be? Good intentions are the pathway to hell. How long it took Anglo-Saxon civilization to reach modern state of human rights? Setting the Magna Carts as the starting point, it is a bit over 800 years, roughly 30 generations. Looking at the world history, we see how slowly societies change their organizational forms, evolving one into another. And you can’t forcefully speed it up. Imagine that our modern “crusaders of democracy” take time machine and show up at Hastings early in the morning on October 14th, 1066. “William, Harold, there is no need to fight. You need to run democratic elections, and everything will be ok…” Will they even understand the idea??? And what will happen the next day after they are left alone?
You have shown significant interest in Russian culture. If you care spending some more time on Russian books, I’d recommend you brothers Strugatsky (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkady_and_Boris_Strugatsky). The form of what they have written is science fiction, but the contents is all about ethics, morale, responsibility, conscience. Try «Escape Attempt», «Hard to be a God», «Overburdened with Evil».
Why I am mentioning them now is because among others they are exploring the topic of “progressors” – people from Earth of XXII century who try to speed up the history of other planets, to solve their problems, stop wars, etc. And it doesn’t end well. As one of their heroes says, “You can’t break up the natural course of history without breaking the spine of humanity.”
It’s hard to find examples of good revolutions when they are initiated from abroad. Change of regime should be supported by majority within the country – it is the guarantee that society is ready for it. What Anglo-Saxons and NATO frequently do is supporting the angry minority in its aspirations for power. And instead of peace, freedom and prosperity it brings chaos. The classic example is Libya. Over 10 years ago the country was “spared of Gaddafi’s tyrannical rule”… How do they live now? The GDP is still around 50% of what it used to be, the country is still not at peace, there are two major forces each claiming to be the legal power. How many lives it did cost already and how much time it will take free Libya to recover? Can such liberation be called anything but a disservice? In Russia we call it “bear’s help”. I don’t say that everything was good in the country when Gaddafi was alive, but aren’t they in the worse situation now?
The whole series of Arabian spring looks like a great mess, not a great success. I rely on the opinion of an expert – below is the brief translation of an article published in 2015-2016 by Mordechai Kedar, an Israeli scholar of Arab culture and a lecturer at Bar-Ilan University. I can’t find the original, unfortunately.
December 2015 was the fifth anniversary of the events known as an ‘Arabian spring’. The world applauded the heroes of the streets in Tunis, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Bahrain. Now, five years ago, those countries are still battlefields, with no light ahead. What problems have prevented them from positive development? Most of them have developed over centuries and they still prevail in mentality, remaining the dangerous rudiment.
  1. Tribalism*, that was always a survival factor in harsh natural conditions of the region. Now the conditions are different but mentality is still the same, when each person thinks of himself as a member of the clan first (family, tribe, tape, whatever…), not the citizen of the country.*
  2. Violence*. Resources are scarce, so anyone who is not the member of my clan, is a deadly threat. And the first reaction to a threat is violence.*
  3. Honour*, understood very specifically. Dishonoured person will seek revenge. It is not uncommon for a person to kill members of his own family if they dishonoured him. Honour is of primary importance in relations between countries and nations, sometimes more important than economics and healthcare.*
  4. Nepotism*, which has its roots in tribalism. Promoting your relatives to administrative positions is illegal in the West, but is part of normal practice in the East.*
  5. Corruption*. An office holder will invest in projects and regions where his tribe and supporters live, not otherwise. He feels financially responsible to his family, not to the country.*
  6. Multiple ethnic groups*, which protect their own languages and traditions. Marriages outside of a group are rare, coexistence with other groups is tense and hostile.*
  7. Islam*. Islamic extremists are sure that people who believe otherwise, are deserved to be killed.*
  8. Sunnites vs*.* shiites*. This conflict started back in 7th century as a conflict for control over Islam. Non-Islamic people see them analogous to Catholicism vs. Orthodox church, but in reality now, after centuries of religious wars, these are two separate religions, and the dialogue between them is very difficult.*
  9. Predominant culture*. Three main groups are Bedouins who live in deserts, fellahs who are the peasants, and inhabitants of the cities. Each group thinks stereotypically of other two, cross-marriages are rare.*
  10. Country borders*. British, French and Italian administration have been drawn the borders straight, just by a ruler and a pencil, paying no attention to the real borders between various groups which differ by religion and ethnicity. People who never thought about themselves as about having anything in common, are now the citizens of one country. And they don’t feel it this way.*
  11. Power change*. This is something which never happens peacefully in Arabic countries. The ethnic or religious group at power holds to it by all means.*
  12. Israel*. Arabs and Muslims don’t acknowledge Judaism as a live religion, Jewish people as a people. So for them the very existence of Israel is illegal. Plus Israel is very convenient as an external enemy, a good target for the aggression of the masses.*
  13. Oil has turned the countries of the Gulf into societies which don’t produce, but do consume without limits. The difference between wealth of the Gulf and poverty of other Arabian countries is shocking.
  14. West that interferes into the region to solve its own problems. Oil, gas, weapons – all is targeted to use natural resources of Middle East.
  15. Al Jazeera as a catalyst of social and religious unrest.
Throughout the XX-th century Europe tries to solve myriads of cultural problems of the Middle East, trying to create modern Arabic states that will fit Europe’s needs. The brightest example of Western misunderstanding of the East is the belief that Middle east can easily adopt democracy. Western democracy is based on western culture with equality of religious and social groups, minority rights, freedom of speech and opinions. Add to it religious freedom and free elections and you will get the list that is absolutely alien to Middle East.
Here’s an article by the same author on the same topic – https://fathomjournal.org/why-we-keep-getting-the-middle-east-wrong/
Here’s an interview with him – https://chicagopolicyreview.org/2015/07/28/americans-still-dont-understand-the-middle-east-this-man-wants-to-help/
In one of your interviews you discussed the competition between China and the US for influence in Africa. And your opinion was that China wins due to corruption of local elites. Let me offer another reason for your consideration. It is the same reason that allows Russia to gain influence in Middle East, Africa, South America. When China or Russia come to some country to cooperate, they come to cooperate, not to teach, not to judge, not to interfere into the internal affairs of the state. And people appreciate this.
  1. We have the right to decide who is democratic and who is not.
This one is undoubtedly wrong. As a psychologist, you can diagnose it, I guess. What will you call such mental blindness, when a person considers himself flawless and assumes the right to judge and punish others, like in “The House of Pride” by Jack London. And here we see a group of countries that consider themselves the best in the world, that judge other countries and feel it righteous to interfere into their life, to change it without being asked. I understand why leaders of these countries have that blindness, but I wonder how many people in these countries actually understand that it is not a radiant crusade for democracy, but a destructive raid of Normans.
De furore Normannorum libera nos, Domine.
One of the principles of democracy is separation of three powers – legislative, judicial and executive. So why then countries that consider themselves “leaders of democratic world” forget about this principle in international relations. They make the rules, they judge and they punish.
One of American diplomats said recently that USA supports international rules-based order. Sounds good, sounds undoubtedly right. But why USA and NATO forget about the rules when it is convenient? Or is it “We support international rules-based order, but our own actions should not be limited by these rules”? What immediately comes to my mind without web search:
Double standards
Speaking more about the rules… We are tired of seeing double standards. As an illustration, I will use just one aspect – the principle of integrity of the state vs the principle of the right of nations to self-determination. It looks like the West supports integrity of the state, when this state is allied or friendly to the West, and supports nation’s self-determination when the state is not. Let’s go through some examples.
- Chechnya (an autonomous republic within Soviet Union) wanted to become independent after 1991. It quickly started to use terrorism to achieve this goal. It took a lot of effort to stop the war and bring the region back to safety. Reaction of the West – support of chechens, their leader fled to London and was not deported to Russia despite all requests.
- Abkhazia (an autonomous republic within Georgian republic which was part of Soviet Union) wanted to become independent from Georgia when Georgia became independent from Russia. Resulted in a war. The conflict is still not solved. Abkhazia now is an independent state which is acknowledged by very few countries in the world. Reaction of the West – they still consider Abkhazia as a rebellious part of Georgia. Same situation about South Osetia – another region, that was an administrative part of Georgia until 1991 and that also seeks independence.
- Donetsk and Lugansk wanted to become independent from Ukraine after 2014 coup. Ukraine tried to subdue them by force and failed. Then the workplan has been signed in Minsk – what the parties of the conflict agree to do to settle. The result should have been – Donetsk and Lugansk return to Ukraine but have extended political rights, etc. Ukraine did nothing of its promises. Reaction of the West – support of Ukraine.
- Catalonia is seeking independence. And I remember that leaders of independence movement have been under political and criminal pressure.
- Scotland had a referendum about independence. And even though results were in favour of the UK, I remember how nervously London reacted.
Russia – NATO relations after 1991
This is best said by Vladimir Pozner, a journalist who spent years of his work in the USA, Russia, Europe and is one of the most known journalists of the old school (comparing to modern propagandists). Here’s the link to his speech in Yale University on September 27, 2018 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X7Ng75e5gQ&t=2556s.
His speech takes around forty minutes, the rest is the Q&A. To save you time, I’d summarize it here in just a couple of phrases. After Soviet Union collapsed, there was an illusion that we aren’t enemies anymore, that the world is open now, and that we will be partners or even friends. Russia dismissed the Warsaw Treaty union and agreed for Germany to unite, that looked just right – why keep a military union when we aren’t enemies anymore? Sometime later Russia made an offer to join NATO to provide world security together and was denied. Russia offered to join the EU, and was denied. Russia was promised that NATO would not expand eastward and less than 10 years later this promise was broken. Since then, we’ve been witnessing NATO getting closer and closer to our borders, inviting countries that are our neighbours and aggressively supporting those candidates to country leadership in East Europe who declared anti-Russia views. So now the illusion is over. We are enemies. And what’s worse – we don’t trust US anymore, so negotiating some new principles of coexistence will be problematic.
Ukraine.
Briefly about history, in more details about recent times and present situation.
In 16-17th century the territory of modern Ukraine was controlled by two forces with no clear border between them. Northwest (where the city of Lvov is now) was under Polish rule, center and the region along river Dnepr – under control of “kazak military democracies” – gatherings of all people, who fled from Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Crimea and who with time formed Ukrainians as a nation. They were ruled by elected chieftains and made their living largely by either joining some military campaign for money and loot, or by robbery raids to Poland, Crimea, Turkey. They were allied to Russia due to same religion – Orthodox Christianity.
As Poland grew stronger, its pressure on the territory grew, which led to periodic rebellions. Poland is a Catholic state, and people of Orthodox Ukraine were severely oppressed. Seeking protection, Ukrainian chieftains asked Russia to include those territories into Russian state. First request came in 1591. Russia rejected this request and several others. Only in 1654 part of Ukraine, controlled by kazaks, was included into Russia. Consequences – war with Poland and tens of thousands orthodox people fleeing from Polish-controlled lands into Russian-controlled lands.
From then on Russians and Ukrainians were really ‘brother nations’. Well, it was not heaven, but it was the best available option. Same religion, very close language and mentality. And forget about oppression. Ukrainians were oppressed as much as Russians themselves.
When the WW I started, Germany and Austria-Hungary were looking for collaborators in occupied territories of Russian Empire. They promised independence to nationalists in Western Ukraine, and found people who bought the idea. Not surprisingly, the most dedicated nationalists came from the least developed region of the country. Ukraine did not become independent at that moment, but the ideas stayed and gave their fruit during WW II, when Ukrainian collaborators actively participated in Nazis’ crimes. In one of your videos you described what Unit 731 of Japanese army was doing and you warned your listeners that they will never forget it. If you will find and read witnesses’ accounts of Volhynia massacre, you will never forget it either. I read it once long ago and I never want to read it again. It was a shock to me that people are capable of such things.
In the period between 1945 and 1991 Ukraine had the same rights as any other republic. There were no impediments to preserving and developing local culture. If you lived in any republic, you learned two languages – Russian and local. National literature was actively translated into other national languages of the Soviet Union, there were no impediments to education. Soviet Union with all its flaws, really tried to unite all of its nations into one big family. (What surprises me though is why antisemitism remained. You could come from Georgia, Uzbekistan or Yakutia and pass exams to Moscow university, no problem if you are smart enough. But it could be problematic for a Jew…)
After 1991 Russia and Ukraine remained friendly states, tightly bound by economic, cultural and even family ties. Ukraine tried to get the most out of relations both with Russia and with the West and it worked fairly well for 30 years. But with time attempts to elevate significance of their own nation led Ukrainians down a dangerous path. They started to slowly eliminate all other cultures that were present in the country. This process sped up dramatically in 2014, when after a coup the nationalist forces gained influence on the government.
Official Kiev denies being nationalistic, but don’t trust what the person is saying, see what he is doing.
I live in Moscow region, so all these processes for me were just an echo of a far-away thunder. My friends who lived in Crimea, Kiev, Donetsks, Kharkov many times said how difficult it was to live in a country that is so obsessed with its own magnificence that it becomes absurd. Massive renaming of streets, destruction of monuments that signified joint Russian-Ukrainian history, rewriting of history, when traitors and criminals become heroes, heroes become butchers. Anne, daughter to Yaroslav the Wise, wife to Henry I of France is known as Anne de Russie or Anne of Kiev. But now there are attempts to call her Anne of Ukraine, even though the very term Ukraine appeared at least a hundred years after she died.
We see those nationalistic ideas demonstrating themselves in a number of ways, and we have seen them before and we know what threat they can bring if left unattended. Pay attention to a dragon when it is small, you may be unable to win when it grows up.
I don’t say that our perception is correct, I just say how we see it. And to us modern Ukraine is like a younger brother who joined a bad company and who is becoming dangerous.
Now combine these two. Ukrainian nationalism plus NATO. Two threats, one well known historically, another the most dangerous rival of the past 70 years. We see them uniting and it is really an existential threat to us. In such circumstances could we afford being blind to it, just sitting and waiting what comes next? We tried to settle it peacefully. Many times Russia said that we are worried by NATO expansion, that we are worried by Western support of nationalistic movements in our neigbour countries. No effect. The last attempt was made in autumn of 2021, when Putin offered a negotiation that should have resulted in guaranteed safety. No reply.
If there is a conflict and your rival refuses to talk, he is asking for a fight. I don’t say that war in Ukraine is the right way to solve the conflict, but who can say that we did not try to set it by negotiations?
2023.06.02 22:54 NickieBoy97 Weird "Meet at Door" Experiences
Yesterday I had a Shop and Pay. Nothing out of the ordinary except it instead of a customer name it was some TV studio. Bit weird since there isn't really any studios in the area but whatever. I pay for the order and follow the directions to the drop off location. Uber navigation brings me to the middle of a open field and says I've arrived. Nobody and no buildings were there. Odd, but I put the address in Google maps and it says it's a little further. I come up on this little house with lots of no trespassing signs and a bunch of cars parked in the side. This lady at her car sees me pulling in and just gives me this angry stare like I'm not supposed to be there. I figured she's probably not the one I'm delivering to since she's looking at me like that and it says to meet at the door. I bring the order to the door and then see the lady move her car to block me from leaving. She comes out and says "What do you want". I politely say I'm delivering a UberEATS order and say the address and whatever studio it was to confirm if I was in the right place. She didn't answer and just went to the front door. I asked her again if it was the right place and she said "Yeah" in a annoyed tone and snatched the bag from me and started banging on the door. I just see a hand poke out and grab the bag from her, no confirmation or acknowledgement of me whatsoever. Lady then moves her car continuing to stare at me, I assuming she's making sure I leave. Maybe they were filming something in that house but it was still such a weird experience.
Next delivery was also straight forward at first. I get to the drop off location and again ring the doorbell. I hear a dog start barking and see a pitbull poke his head through the curtain in the window. Then a see a 10 year old kid open the curtain to see who it is. He looked at the dog briefly like wondering if he should move him before opening the door. He then proceeded to open the door slightly to grab their order. I hand him the bag and then the pitbull charges out the door between his legs barking and growling at me. The kid said " oh just grab him by the collar and and put him back inside". I had to process it for a minute because I've never had a customer tell me to handle their dog for them. I'm just paid to deliver food not handle pets especially ones growling at me, so I told him "No, you can get him". He said "Oh but he's too fast and I don't have any treats". Ok? Well that's not my problem bro get your growling dog away from me. So I just started going back to my car and the pitbull keeps following me standing in front of me blocking me off. I thought the kid was behind me still trying to get him to go back inside but I looked back and the door was closed. I walked back and rang the doorbell again and the kid opened it up again and said "Oh you didn't get him yet?" What do you mean I didn't get him yet? It's your dog come get him, I'm just here to drop off your food. Then the mom comes out to see what's taking so long and sees the dog there. She kept trying to call him inside pretending to have a treat, the dog was just ignoring her and she just left too. The kid started running and the dog started following him. I just took the opportunity to get out of there. Then I said to myself I think that's enough Uber for today. 😂
