2023.06.03 22:58 Imaginary_Staff_3484 Snippets from the First Monthly Statement of Milbank LLP for compensation for services rendered
If you have some time, suggest you review the minutes of meetings held between Milbank and other professionals on the Unsecured Creditors Committee (UCC). It is an interesting read on the back and forth to get to Sorrento’s asset evaluation and sale. A lot of meetings and discussions of Sorrento’s pipeline and assets sale of IP, products and candidates. A company called BRG is one the consultants helping with the process. I looked up BRG, correct me if I am wrong but looks like they are Berkeley Research Group ( a global consulting firm). They are rated by Forbes as one of America’s best management consulting firm. Healthcare is among their area of expertise.
Looks like there was a meeting on 3/9/23 to evaluate an unsolicited offer to purchaseIP/ product assets. Curious to know who that investment banker is.
There is also discussion of an informational meeting with Piper Sandler, Milbank and BRG.
I wonder if they are the investment banker referred to
Discussion also on the analysis of Sofusa patent portfolio and regulatory activities in connection with purchase offer and valuation. BRG is shown heavily involved in discussions with a potential investment banker on the sale of IP/product assets.
This is just a tiny flavor of things going on in the background on the UCC side of the coin. If interested you can read also the Monthly Statement from LW. There is a lot you can learn about coordination behind the scenes. You will begin to appreciate and understand the work that is going on behind the scenes and why LW along with all the professionals that are representing Sorrento are as successful as they are in JJ’s court. If you get a chance to look up the monthly statements from the UCC and LW, your take would be appreciate.

2023.06.03 22:55 whoshatter I was trapped in my bed for a year and I've never been able to forget
There was a period of my life, for about a year, when I was completely immobile. I couldn’t walk by myself, I couldn’t get food by myself, I couldn’t even use the bathroom by myself. I spent every minute of every hour of everyday laying in my room with the lights off, the door closed, and the blackout curtains drawn. I stopped going to school and although we all had phones and shit, my friends were busy with their school stuff plus their clubs and shit so I fell out of contact with all of them, barring two who I’d only ever interact with every 5-ish months. My parents were working full time and I don’t think my sibling liked being in the house so I didn’t see them at all, though sometimes I could hear their voice talking to mom in the mornings. ‘Cause of this, my whole family would either be away or hella busy until 8 pm. Most days a family relative would come over to sit in the kitchen in case I needed anything, but they’d be doing their stuff, only coming in to give me food. The best analogy I can think of is Futaba’s palace and living situation in Persona 5. The only difference being that she was trapped by grief whereas I was trapped in a much more physical sense.
All this doesn’t even cover half of it, but here’s the thing I wanted to get off my chest; sometimes I feel like I’m still there, left in a tomb to die. It’s when the lights in my room are off and the curtains are drawn and the door is closed and I’m stuck in bed. It makes me nauseous, that distinct feeling of rotting and loneliness. I haven’t told anyone about this properly, but I needed to at least tell someone... so here I am on Reddit.

2023.06.03 22:54 recusant155 Unpopular opinion: Murkoff is kinda dumb
If you're a fan of Murkoff, this post might make you angry (if so, maybe just skip this post entirely). After going through the intro POV cutscene in The Outlast Trials, I started to think a bit more about what this corporation actually is and what it aims for. And that might've been a mistake, because right now I cannot see the Murkoff Corporation as nothing else than a cheesy PG-rated stereotypical comically-super-evil company.
In other words, the Murkoff Corporation internal policy and the way the research is lead is highly inefficient at best and highly prone to incidents (those we know too well, as we played an active role in those).
Research
Let's start with the research. The Trials (specifically the intro scene) gave us an insight into early Murkoff's gruesome treatment of their testing subjects. I don't want to sound as some Ethics Committee squeak (although Murkoff does need some EC a lot), but the gore and violence is super-excessive, needless, and technically problematic for the following reasons:
- The place is anything but sterile, making it almost guaranteed for patients to catch an infection and die within days at best.
- Patients don't get anesthetics and all procedures are done when awake and conscious. Good luck performing a surgical procedure correctly when the patient is defending themselves (also a great way to have them accidentally killed). Not to mention the psychological trauma would have a great negative impact on the research (especially given how likely early stage it is).
- Patients get their night-vision goggles literally drilled into their skull. This is the needless part, because those goggles can be strapped on your head just fine. But I guess Murkoff just needs to have an agenda of a satanistic cult devoted to bring sacrifices to Azazel (that's like the only explanation that would make sense).
- The argument that the patients are expendable can be said, but then again, why hard-attaching expensive devices on them if those would need to be somehow removed from their corpses in a hostile environment, and why performing surgeries that drastically decrease their chances of survival?
In Trials, we somewhat learn that Murkoff experiments with a mind-control technology. Then I guess Murkoff is in its "revolutionary startup idea" phase, because the whole project gives the impression of a remote variation of the Squid Game (especially given the theme of the testing environment and objectives of the scenario).
Typically (or rather ALWAYS), you want to make your tests in a controlled environment in order to prevent a security breach and to monitor the test a lot better with no external interferences. If a mind-controlling technology is developed there, the tests should be about following specific orders, not about running in a dangerous environment where the only way to survive is to actually do the objectives (something a normal healthy person would do anyway in order to survive). Not to mention there is a high risk of the subjects being injured or incapacitated, preventing you from using the subjects anytime soon, researching what the effects of the technology do in a long run, or if it's possible to expose people to that technology repeatedly.
(If Murkoff has this already sorted out, then the Trials are nothing more than an amusement park with no research value.)
Probably only the Temple Gate experiment is somewhat plausible in theory, although despite the remote location, Murkoff completely neglected securing the perimeter of the experiment area, allowing the test subjects to escape and people from outside to enter the area. I would also mention the non-existing monitoring of the experiment, but there is no info on that (who knows, maybe they just fly drones over the place 24/7).
Security and personnel
When I mentioned the Ethical Committee and that Murkoff could use one, it is not for the sake of public relations as much as for the Murkoff personnel. If your company does some gruesome (mostly needless) crimes against humanity, you're on a way to alienate your own people. A scientist, a security member, a technician, a programmer, doesn't matter, once they witness some of those horrendous crimes, they may start to question whether the cause they signed up for is actually any good (spoiler alert: it's not, Murkoff is just evil to be evil for the sake of being evil).
And this is just the starting point. The personnel then gradually decides or is quickly pushed into decision between the following options:
- Simply quit working for Murkoff Evil Inc.
- Publicly expose the company either via whistleblowing confidential and incriminating data from inside the company, publicly speaking against the company, or contacting authorities about the situation (the last one is likely ineffective if Murkoff works directly with the government, but we don't have any confirmation on that).
- Sabotage the project or the facility if no other option is possible, causing damage that needs to be cleaned up and slowing down the research progress.
Yes, Murkoff does have it's security policy that keeps the personnel "in line" with the brute force of intimidation and silencing, however this approach further alienates the people (potentially those that have not yet come in contact with the "secret" stuff as well). Not to mention the personnel needs to be under increased supervision even outside the Murkoff facilities.
But if you're in the "screw ethics" camp, then let's talk about money. Internal surveillance, investigations, incident cleanups, seeking replacements for lost people, or any damage caused by the policy eventually slurps a lot of money. Kinda funny the Insurance Mitigation Department exists to minimize financial and legal costs, despite the fact that Murkoff does everything to increase the costs.
But if you're also in the "money goes brrr" camp, then keep in mind that Murkoff Corporation is a publicly known company that still has its PR and legal obligations to take care of (good luck explaining why a helicopter crashed near your facility in the local news). If things go out and the government has no other option than to make a full crackdown on the entire company, the only thing Murkoff can do is to go on a permanent vacation to a third world country with an authoritarian regime rule where it would be out of reach of any justice.
And before anyone suggests using the "mind-control" technology against the establishment, why Murkoff doesn't already use that technology on it's own personnel to make them loyal and obedient before they actually realize who's good or bad?
Conclusion
I could also nitpick details such as Doofenshmirtz (I mean Murkoff) using it's actual name on a scam poster, or buildling an experimental lab right under a large clinic that can be turned into an unwanted Rat Park experiment with a single outbreak, but I already gave it more than enough roast.
Murkoff Corporation does stupid things. I guess the reason for it is purely narrative - to have an evil large corporation that is responsible for the mess you got dropped into as the player (but I don't want to dive into the narrative decision issue as that would be another, even edgier essay). But if Red Barrels decided to expand the lore of Outlast further, maybe they should've made Murkoff a company with an actual believable reason.

2023.06.03 22:48 PostReplyKarmaRepeat Defending the Draft: Detroit Lions
HOW WE GOT HERE:
Brad Holmes is a wizard. What he has done as the Detroit GM in just 3 years has been a playoff push away from being quite remarkable, especially considering the context of succeeding prior general manager Bob Quinn which ended in typical Lions losing fashion. Brad Holmes would immediately come out swinging and first transaction as general manager was trading longtime franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two first round picks, a third round pick, and quarterback Jared Goff. At the time, it was bittersweet for fans, as Stafford was the practically the lone bright spot in the last decade (outside of Megatron), but the haul they got in return was at least something. Stafford was injured and already likely leaving to chase a Super Bowl and Detroit was going into full rebuild mode so Detroit fans were just happy with what they could get. Brad ended up hiring a one time Head Coach, Dan Campbell. A pick made purely on the potential he would be able to change the culture with his grind it out, Football attitude Campbell was known for. All in all, it was business as usual for Detroit as they begin yet another rebuild....
Oh parity in sports.... You never cease to amaze us....
Somehow and someway, In Holmes' first draft, Penei Sewell falls to Detroit at #7 and the Lions draft room goes bananas on camera! At the time we did not know it, but Detroit just landed their future Pro Bowl leader in the trenches. In round 4, the Lions scoop a literal Sun God in Amon-Ra St. Brown. Little did we all know the impact both of these players would have today. Both players are arguably top 10 in their position.
Fast forward to 2022 and the Lions are coming off one of the most promising 3-13-1 seasons that you could ever ask for. The team and coaches have bought in to Dan Campbell's grind it out style of Football. The culture seemed to finally be changing and it felt like Jared Goff turning into a solid Stafford replacement, despite being considered a throw on by most in the Stafford trade.
The 2022 draft Brad Holmes' statement to the NFL. It does not matter where you take guys. If you know how to evaluate talent, you go for YOUR guys and you can be successful. Holmes was able to draft Aiden Aiden Hutchinson at #2 (some say he should have been #1), Jameson Williams (best receiver in the draft at 12 via trade), Kerby Joseph (who picked off Aaron Rodgers THREE TIMES IN ONE GAME!), and drafted James Houston and Malcolm Rodriguez in the 6th round. Both players are looking like future defensive stars. Dare I say the best 6th round success since the Pats drafted TB12? Don't @ me lol
The Lions followed up the draft with a MUCH improved 2022, landing a 9-8 winning record and going 8-2 in their final 10 games. Jared Goff is looking like the guy who took the Rams to the Superbowl, every position has young talent and this upcoming 2023 draft is looking like it could seriously push the Lions into serious playoff contention if the cards are played correctly.

Round 1: No. 12 (from CLE through HOU and ARI) – Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama
Flashback! Remember that Stafford trade where they got got the Rams draft pick? You know that pick that was supposed to be in the upper 20s because LA is so good and are coming off winning a Super Bowl? Yea, well they sucked.... Somehow they sucked so bad that that pick turned into the number 6th overall pick.
Odds makers had the Lions grabbing Devon Witherspoon as their secondary was a big need. However when Seattle took him at 5, who knew what would follow? Well, the last thing fans expected.... The Lions ended up passing on Tyree Wilson, Jalen Carter, AND Bijan Robinson by trading down to 12 to take Alabama running back, Jahmyr Gibbs. Hindsight is 2020, but reports now show the Lions wanted Jahmyr over Bijan, which means Holmes and co. got THEIR guy.
Immediately fans realized the inevitable. Fan favorite and oft injured running back, DeAndre Swift, was going to be cut or traded. Almost immediately they traded D'Andre Swift and a 7th round pick for the Saints' 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2023 7th round pick.
This pick is exactly why you and I are sitting on the couch and Brad Holmes gets paid the big bucks. "HoW cAn YoU dRaFt a RuNnInG BaCk ThAt hIgH". Well, the dude is a straight up baller. If I asked you who led Alabama in receiving last year you would probably say some 5 star Wide Receiver. It was Gibbs. Gibbs is being compared Alvin Kamara in the way he can run and catch. He was listed as running a 4.36 at the combine. Gibbs transferred to Alabama last season after spending the first two seasons of his career at Georgia Tech. He carried the ball 151 times for the Crimson Tide in 2022, averaging 6.1 yards per carry and scoring seven touchdowns. He also caught 44 passes for 444 yards and three catching scores. With the departure of Swift and the newly acquired bowling ball back in Montgomery, Gibbs is going to be an immediate impact as a "weapon" and less of a conventional running back. The thunder and lightning combo the Lions will have will be fun to watch behind their top 5 O Line.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 1: No. 18 – Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa
"HoW cAn YoU dRaFt a RuNnInG BaCk ThAt hIgH" made sense with the Gibbs pick, but drafting a Linebacker at 18 with other glaring needs like lineman and secondary left Lions fans a bit puzzled by this pick. It hurt a little less when you remember this was their 2nd pick in the first round. Also, many people had Jack Campbell on their board for later in the draft so in terms of liking a guy for who they are, very few people are against this pick. But like I said before, Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell go after guys they have faith in. Until they screw up, fans cant complain too much!
But who is this guy and what makes him so good? Well if you care about RAS or "Relative Athletic Score" Jack is outstanding. He scored a 9.98 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 6 out of 2600 LB from 1987 to 2023. He possesses rare athleticism for being 6-5 and that allows him to be exceptional in coverage. PFF rated him as the highest coverage grade since 2018 Devin White at LSU. He also has great leadership skills as he was Iowa's team captain and won Big10 Defensive Player of the year.
Jack Campbell is going to join a much improving linebacking core that is led by team captain Alex Anzalone and 2nd year stars Malcolm Rodriguez and James Houston. The Lions will likely play him on the outside because off his athleticism but I am certain he will be moved all around the field.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 2: No. 34 (from ARI) – Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa
This is getting a bit out of hand for the Lions fans that appreciate positional value when you draft. Clearly Holmes has totally thrown conventional wisdom out of the window. However, tight end IS a need. Of all of the positional units Tight End is probably the weakest. In 2022 the Lions trotted Brock Wright, James Mitchell, and Shane Zylstra....WHOOOO?!?! Exactly...they needed help. Outside of when they took him, most pundits are pretty happy about this pick. Not only did the Lions get their second Iowa captain, but Sam might have landed the best tight end in the entire class.
With LaPorta, the Lions get a player that can do a variety of things. He can play in the slot, in-line or even out wide. This is EXTRA important when you remember that Jameson Williams is suspended for 6 games due to gambling. During his career at Iowa, he had 513 snaps in-line and 304 snaps out of the slot (per PFF). It really wouldn’t be surprising if LaPorta walks into Detroit and earns the starting tight end spot. He has the talent to do it and by being the 34th overall pick, there is going to be some high expectations for him.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 2: No. 45 (from DET) – Brian Branch, S, Alabama
For the first time all draft it felt like a player fell to Detroit and they werent reaching for their guy (for better or worse). At 45, the Lions were already drafting their 4th player and wasnt even the end of the 2nd round. Scouts said that Branch was one of the safest picks in the draft due to his lack of a jarring weakness. Branch is siad to have extremely high football IQ which led him to play all around the defense for the Crimson Tide. Branch has primarily handled nickel coverage, but has the range and instincts for single-high or split safety looks. He’s quick, fast and strong with the ability to match up with shifty slots, bigger possession receivers and pass-catching tight ends. Branch is also tough and gritty which makes himu a perfec fit for this Lions team. He has a nose for the ball and is capable of making game-changing plays. He had two interceptions and two forced fumbles during his freshman season at Bama.
Branch made headlines on draft day to be the only guy to stay into day 2 in the greenroom as he was projected to go in the first round. I think that shows how much he cares about this opportunity and has his heart in it.
Also, Branch as a great opportunity to learn from newly acquired Safety, Chauncy Gardner-Johnson who is one of the best young safeties in the league.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 3: No. 68 (from DEN) – Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
You ever feeling a little uncomfortable and then you let out a massive fart and all of your uneasiness washes away? Yea, well thats the feeling Lions fans got when they landed Hendon Hooker with the 68th pick. QB wasnt a terrible need, but once we got him, a sense of relief was felt across the fanbase. When the Lions ended up getting Goff in the Stafford trade, it was sort of unsaid that Goff was just the bridge before they draft a QB of the future. However Goff has played way better than expectations and less and less fans are calling for a replacment. So, instead of using one of their first round picks on a QB, they waited and got a guy with first round updside! Now, they are in a much more confortable position at QB with a very solid back up.
The Lions used the 68th pick in order to take the former Tennessee quarterback. The pick came just before the Rams and Raiders were scheduled to pick and been teams have been seen as possible landing spots for a quarterback in this year’s draft. Hooker is recovering from a torn ACL, but his doctor recently informed teams that he is expected to be ready to go by the first week of the regular season. With Jared Goff in place as the starter in Detroit, there won’t be any need for Hooker to rush back for what will likely be a redshirt season if all goes according to plan in Detroit.
This pick was safe, exciting, and sets the Lions up with a solid back up QB. The first time that they can say that since they had Shaun Hill.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 3: No. 96 (from ARI) – Brodric Martin, DT, Western Kentucky
Before the draft, a need that was discussed as a hole in the Lions defense was interior line. They got their big boy in the middle with nose tackle, Brodric Martin. After starting his career at North Alabama, Martin transferred to Western Kentucky to play his final two seasons at the FBS level. Since 2021, Martin has played in 26 total games, and has managed to contribute 62 total tackles to the Western Kentucky cause. He’s piled up six tackles for-loss as well as four sacks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. This move with help the Lions run defense that ranked 4th to last in the NFL last year.
It is no surprise that winning is won in the trenches. The Lions have done a great job of drafting players to build out this line with the likes of Alim McNeill, Isaiah Buggs, and John Cominsky, but with big interior guys like Martin, they usually operate best in a rotation. This move should be huge in terms of depth and opening up even more opportunities for Aiden Hutchison to get to the QB.
This move didn't feel flashy, but it felt needed.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 5: No. 152 – Colby Sorsdal, OL, William & Mary
The Lions had to finally wait a bit before this pick due to moving around in the draft and trading away their pick round 4. They elected to add depth to their O-Line by taking Colby Sorsdal out of William and Mary. Sometimes its fun being the big fish in the small pond. Sorsdal started in all 46 games he appeared in during his five-year stint at William & Mary. He spent the duration of his college career at Right Tackle. Sorsdal is the first Tribe player to be drafted since 2016, when the Chicago Bears selected safety DeAndre Houston-Carson in the sixth round.
Serving as an offensive co-captain and starting all 13 games at Right Tackle, Sorsdal anchored an offensive line that helped the Tribe rank third in total rushing offense and fourth in fewest sacks allowed. Behind one of the best offensive line units in the country, the Tribe accumulated an 11-2 record and won the CAA Conference Championship for the first time since 2015.
He will be joining a elite O-line led by Penei Sewell, Frank Ragnow and Taylor Decker. Colby wont start, but he will add in needed depth for a team that's success will only goes as far as their line will take them.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Round 7: No. 219 (from HOU through MIN via PHI) – Antoine Green, WR, North Carolina
With the Lions last pick in a very intense draft, they selected Wide Receiver, Antoine Green out of UNC. Most projected Antoine to be signed to a team after the draft so it is a but of a peculiar pick. In the late 7th round, you are just hoping to take a flier on a guy and hoping they pan out.
The 6-foot-3, 199-pound receiver impressed Detroit's coaching staff at the East-West Shrine Bowl, and has the opportunity to compete for playing time his rookie season. According to NFL Draft Bible, Green is a "technically sound, fluid athlete that can give you a little bit of everything as a wide receiver. Green runs routes, it is as if he is attacking his defender rather than going about his route without considering what the defense is doing. Green has a good release off the line of scrimmage and does not get held up too much when facing press coverage. He uses his hands well to reduce contact against the press and accelerate off the line. He analyzes coverages well and makes quick decisions on how to break down his defender throughout his route. He can read zone defenses and has a knack for finding spaces to make himself an easier target."
With Jameson Williams missing 6 games to start the year, there is an opportunity for Green to poach snaps away from anyone not named Amon-Ra or Marvin Jones. There is also a chance he doesn't make it out of camp. Unlikely, but we will see.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Conclusion:
The 2023 NFL draft for the Detroit Lions was a resounding success. They were able to draft 6 times....BEFORE THE FOURTH ROUND!! The extra picks allowed Detroit to really control the draft and move around in a way to get the guys they wanted. They did not care about who they got and when. They just simply got the guys they wanted. After reflecting on its entirety, they landed a lot of great talent. They were able to add a player at every single positional unit and several will end up starting and making an immediate impact.
Look, the Lions are going to Lions so hold your breath a little longer, however Brad Holmes and Jack Campbell have really turned this franchise around and are making them a legit playoff contender. Right now the Lions are favored to win the NFC North for the first time since god knows when. I am projecting a record of 12 and 5 and a NFL North Division Win.
GO LIONS!!!! (FTP)

2023.06.03 22:48 FrogOnALeash Waterproofing oak board to be used as plant tray.
Hey you guys! Please lend a happy hobbyist your wisdom.
I want to use an oak shelf that I have from another project to create a tray that I can place under flower pots so that I dont need the ugly plastic trays. The board is the glued type and my plan is to mill out a pocket in the top and then coat it with something to make it waterproof. My thought after doing some research was to use a 2k polyurethane laquor but I am not sure if it is suitable.
Would this even be possible or would it just crack more or less instantly? I assume it is best to coat the entire board, even where it wont be in direct contact with water?
Thanks

2023.06.03 22:46 twashpepsii AITA for refusing to help my disabled grandma??
I (19F) have a complicated relationship with my grandma (early 70s). The best way to describe it is close, but toxic. She was the first person to take me in when my birth mother abandoned me and if it wasn’t for her I would’ve ended up in the foster system. Although I’ve lived with my dad (her son) since I was a toddler, I’ve always felt as if I owed her a debt I’d never fully be able to pay and I do believe she’s exploited that.
She’s also disabled, having been diagnosed with a chronic lung condition, arthritis, a poorly healed hip fracture and having a quadruple coronary heart bypass at the beginning of 2022. I live 10 minutes away from her with my dad, step-mum (who I call ‘mum’) and two younger sisters. Growing up, I was always helping her at the expense of my childhood, my social life, my sanity because that is what I felt I had to do. I still help her a lot now, primarily running errands, but also walking and looking after her dogs, doing her chores when she doesn’t feel up to it all while working part-time and studying full-time at university. It’s a lot, but when I ask my aunts or my dad for help, I’m told that I should just accept the responsibility as my life is “less important” than theirs.
Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that my grandma clearly favours my aunts’ children over my sisters and I. For Easter, she arranged a meal out with them all and my sisters and I were disinvited. She continuously goes on about how wonderful they are, while running me down, calling me useless, irresponsible, and pig-headed. My grandma also has two dogs. They’re not well-looked after, obese, not walked by her, and generally not very pleasant to be around. When she was in hospital for her heart bypass, I helped one of my aunts to look after them (while also being one of the only people to visit the hospital and sitting A-Level mock exams). I made sure that they got walked, reduced their food intake, kept them brushed. However, when she came out of hospital I caught her telling her friends that the reason why her dogs were so fat was because I’d mistreated them when she was in hospital. One of those friends then called me an AH and said I should’ve helped my sick grandma more.
That’s only one incident of many. However, recently, I was contacted by an ex-boyfriend of my birth mother to tell me that she’d abandoned my two half-sisters in the same way that she’d abandoned me. As you can imagine, I was really distressed. I tried speaking to my grandma about it, only for her to tell me that she was disgusted by me and the lack of consideration I’d given to my aunts and my cousins in this situation (who had nothing to do with it). At that point, I had enough and stopped helping her. She keeps calling me and asking me to do things for her so that she’s able to take my cousins out or because she’s in too much pain. My sisters offer to help her, but she only wants me. A lot of people have noticed that I’ve stopped and are calling me an AH, so AITA?

2023.06.03 22:45 Pale-Rain-41 Feel like I should have seen it coming
Throwaway acct.
There were little signs here or there that I didn't read into, or didn't want to read into. Like the distance I always felt with him, he never shared his feelings, even when I could tell something was wrong he would assure me he was fine. Together 4 years, married almost 2.
Then The Incident a month ago, his whole attitude changed. The Incident was fixable, frustrating yes, but doable, and I was determined to fix it! And everything went downhill. He suddenly tells me he's removed himself from Facebook. Weird, but not too unexpected. He tells me all about this girl in his new class, how she's got tons of cats, is really cool, etc. Usually he introduces me to his new buds but not this one. The way he would talk to her on voice chat...he hadn't talked to me like that for months. Flirty almost. But he claimed she had a husband. Sure, okay, no reason not to believe.
Starts to never text me during the day. No initiation of kisses or hugs and no I love yous. I figure it's just due to The Incident, I would give him space, I love him desperately and want to do what I can to be better for him. We sit down Sunday and he says he feels like I'm not a partner to him, I don't trust him, feels like he has to babysit me. A bit insulting as I do most of the housework. I don't know what to say. He rarely elaborates on how he's feeling. He's been sleeping on the couch and me on the bed. I can't sleep. Feel awful, it's all my fault and I keep letting him down. Send him a long mushy text in the middle of the night saying how sorry I was, how much I was going to change for him and for us, how much I loved him and couldn't wait for our future together.
His answer next morning: thanks for the message, I have to think.
I have off that day so this spend the day nauseated with anxiety.
Knew what was coming but wouldn't allow myself to consider it seriously. He comes home, we sit on the bed, he's silent so I bring it up. So you want to separate. He confirms. I burst into tears. Says he was different in the beginning, didn't know what he was expecting from marriage, barely elaborated. He pushed down couple counseling and insisted we were done, it would be best for both of us, as I sit there obviously not believing it's best for me. What about the cats? We adopted cats together. He didn't fight for them, I have them now. Small victory I guess. Didn't fight for the cats, didn't fight for me, was just...done. just like that.
No kids or property, should be an easy divorce.
He almost immediately offered me money to get back on my feet as I told him with how cold he's been acting I don't feel comfortable being in the apartment. Was not an insignificant amount of money. Felt like I was being paid to GTFO lol.
Next day he drops on me that memorial day weekend he's going to visit this girl and her husband and her cats. Still have no solid evidence the husband exists. She lives over 6 hours away and he's known her a little over a month. Though every time I glanced over his shoulder he was chatting to her online. Don't want to suspect cheating but I have nothing else to go on. Earlier this year things were fine. It just seems since this class...agh.
I don't know what to think or how to feel. He barely contacts me now. I'm determined that if he wants this divorce he has to do the legwork. But I just want it over...should I file and send papers? I don't know what to do. I'm out of state now where my sister lives and technically doing ok but mentally every. Day. Sucks.
Not sure what I want out of this post..just needed to vent and share idk.

2023.06.03 22:44 abandonedwhale2 He’s abandoned me for someone else.
I was recently told by my ex that he would be chasing after a woman a handful of years older than us, and thus would no longer be keeping in contact with me. I had been trying to make him love me for the past 3 years, and it never happened. And yet, with this new woman, it happened in a tiny fraction of that time.
When she first came into the picture, I was still having romantic affiliations with my ex. I admit to acting out of jealousy because of my emotional attachment and insecurities, but the amount of the time they spent getting to know each other caused me high emotional stress. I’m talking crying at the thought of her stealing the time I wanted to spend with him, at the way he described her. I knew something was up before he even realized it, because I’d be on the side questioning when I’d get to see him while he gave me excuse after excuse for prioritizing the time he spent together with his new friend. And guess whose heart got crushed the moment my suspicions were confirmed. Now, I’ve lost two people in one: the boy I loved and my best friend.
So fast forward a couple days, and everything is just pain. Everything reminds me of him still. He is still my first and last thought when going to bed and waking up. And yet, I doubt that I will ever be this person to him again. It all feels so, so cruel.
Today, I woke up with severe heartache, as if my chest had been sliced open and I was bleeding out. It felt so bad I wish I were dead instead of alive and forced to endure this pain. As if the mental despair wasn’t enough, the my brain has now decided to start translating the pain physically.
I will say that some things do work to help me feel better but only temporarily. Movies, TV, seeing friends, talking some of these feelings out. But I can’t escape my own brain and the depression that lurks in the back of my thoughts and sometimes I just spiral into despair. Inadequacy. Like everything I did had gone to waste because it did not translate to him the way I intended. Like I failed.
It hurts so much.
If anyone else feels this way, I feel for you. You aren’t alone.
