My cup feels full: I am content with my life and my friendships as a sober person.
It's been almost a year-and-a-half off the sauce, and I'll admit, the last few months were difficult pushing through the signals in my brain to drink. But I'm so glad I stayed strong.
I'd like to share my Saturday thus far for anyone wondering if quitting is worth it. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I woke up at 5:30 this morning -- like every morning nowadays -- and sat on my patio enjoying delectable, local coffee while taking in the cool spring air. I journaled a bit and drew the city skyline. I basked in the first light of day as the sun peeked over the mountains.
And then I prepared to bicycle downtown to our city's first farmer's market of the year. I've been looking forward to this all winter; it was a record-breaking winter and we rarely saw the sun.
I arrived just as the market was opening and the crowds were still tame. Right away I bought a homemade huckleberry danish and sat in the sunshine savoring every damn bite. When I used to drink, I'd never treat myself to food like this because I'd "save my calories" for drinking. What a fool's errand.
With all this extra money I have from no longer drinking (and all the silly shit that comes with it, like DoorDash-ing), I purchased: a hand-carved wooden spoon for my oatmeal in the mornings; a fresh loaf of wheat sourdough; a new Emotional Support Plant for my tiny porch; and handmade pappardelle pasta.
A friend joined me and we had the loveliest of times strolling together, browsing all the booths, and engaging in stimulating conversation.
While at the market, my most important friend -- who's sober -- texted asking if I'd like to meet for coffee on the patio of a local shop. "Yes please!" I replied, and shortly thereafter I set off through the heart of my beautiful city on my bicycle to join my sober friend.
By the time I arrived to the coffee shop, it was 72 degrees, breezy, and still brilliantly sunny.
My sober friend and I felt adventurous and ordered drinks completely different than our usual, and we were both giddy like children over how good they tasted! She invited me to her house a few blocks away to come see how her garden is progressing, and I eagerly accepted.
When I arrived at her house, her and her partner's dogs greeted me as if I was their favorite human, and I felt overwhelmed with joy and love and connectedness -- words I never would have used to describe life when I was drinking. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I'm home now and I had a huge, fresh salad for lunch. I'm about to Skype with my long-distance partner, and tomorrow I'm marching in the city's Pride parade.
Life has never been so lovely. When I drank, I was perpetually terrified to change for fear of missing out -- but I was really missing out on the most essential elements of life by continuing to drink. I'll never go back.
There will be hard times, sure. But I'll never, ever give up the chances life has given me since quitting. May we all weather the storms of life together, SD community, so that the sun might shine a bit brighter on the other side.

I had symptoms years before this. But moved in to my grandma’s 6 months ago, and of course past history of roof leaks. She planned on getting roof replaced but it wasn’t done right away, got bathroom ceiling replaced to plastic one, after it rains you hear dripping above. No attic so I can’t look, and it’s closed off, ceiling tiles.. :(
I’ve had Genova gut test, very high sigA off charts?, some dysbiosis I guess and showed potential pathogen klebsiella. TSH was 5ish, told to take a second time. Ferritin was 26, D was low but took prescribed high dose D. I do have a habit of staying up late, used to work second shift but always get 8+ hours. Planning on a home sleep study too.
I was recommended to go GF, elimination diet for month and take antibacterial etc. negative celiac test but want to do an endoscopy before going gf to make sure? But if I got a mold test, should I test my urine first… or the house? I’m not making a lot of money right now and not sure I can spend on more tests

I'm not the jealous type. I have a gut feeling that something is off since the beginning of knowing her. We are long-distance btw.
They are from the same class. The first time I noticed something was that he sent me a selfie wearing her glasses in school and playfully joking with her about how she wears glasses (I do too). Some weeks after he told me she went to his house to study together but also with another friend (of hers - a dude). I brushed it off.
Some days after I found out he inniciated that he leaves his friend group and sits next to her in class, because she is way funnier and makes him happy. I was fine with that, until he told me that the whole class is "joking" with them about being a couple, even though they know about me and she has a bf as well. Saying how the way they act is not okay and they seem like a couple. Thwy go to school together and go home together. I brushed all off, I trust my bf.
But a month ago I realised he doesn't follow her anymore on social media, he said they became distant after graduating).
We go to a party together and we drink, he was so bored. Turns out she is there (it was the first time i see her in person) and she just doesn't seem to try to even meet me or look at me, just greet him and all. After that I saw that he is only looking around at this point, around the other people and is not concentrated in dancing or talking with me. And it clicked that he was searching for her. I told him he can go talk to her or meet me with her and he said: Nah, she is probably here with her bf... Then continued to ask me: Why is she here if not with her bf? Do you think they broke up?
After that night he followed her back on social media, (he showed me that she broke up with her bf on his phone) and then I saw.
I need a guy's point of view, because I really think he is a great guy and I want to trust him, but I have been cheated on in the past. I'm afraid that it might happen again.

20F Today has been so heavy and heartwrenching that my guts actually physically hurt. I am so painfully isolated in life right now.
I am so misunderstood in my family- I’m not a Christian anymore. I am bisexual, but nobody believes me when I’ve come out. My sister even said ‘there’s always something new with you.’ My dad is an asshole- he’s a workaholic and comes into the house and yells at everybody when he’s had a bad day. He was insulting me over the phone the other so I hung up on him and he got mad at me telling me I need to be respectful to him. My mom tried to defend me to him and I overheard him say ‘everybody always has to walk on eggshells around her.’ I’m surprised my mom doesn’t have boot prints permanently pressed into her face from all the times my dad walks all over her. She brings up a grievance and he’ll say ‘stop nagging me, woman.’
What makes me even more chronically misunderstood is that I’m an artist in rural southern alberta. Not the kind of artist that paints a picture when they feel like it. I fucking bust my ass doing commissions and working on personal projects- I’m doing my best to get this insane career of the ground. Struggling to get ends to meet right now, but getting by. My sister was lecturing me about needing to get a job and getting insulting towards me. Comparing me to a missionary we both know who didn’t work to raise money for his missions trip, he just took donations. And said she didn’t want me to be like another girl we both know who has a mess of a life, had a baby she had to put up for adoption, and got fired from her dream job because she’s a bit of a hack.
She doesn’t understand that doing commissions is my job, it’s just that any business start up is fucking difficult. I’m also 20 and pioneering all this stuff with little to no help or understanding from the people closest to me. There’s not a corner of my life where I’m not completely misunderstood or thrown into a minority!!
Between faith, family, and my work I am in complete despair. I grind away every day and scrape myself off the ground when I’m always getting kicked while I’m down.
Don’t even get me started on mental health… my lovely Christian parents made it very clear from a young age that it’s been demons attacking me my whole life…. Not adhd and ocd.

So, I have a good friend who is unfortunately often chronically late. Like at best 1 hour late, sometimes 2-3 hours late, and often doesn't show up to things at all. (The reason for this is usually just bad time management, nothing serious, luckily).
Still, we're good friends and most of the time I just do my best to make sure that my plans don't depend on her being on time. We text and chat all the time, but we don't do one on one stuff too often because, unfortunately, she's pretty much always late. And as a chronically punctual person myself, I think it just doesn't work.
Tonight, she had invited me to be a plus one to a party with her colleagues. I didn't know anyone, so we had planned to arrive at the same time, since she basically needed to be there to let me into the house, as I hadn't met anyone there before. I arrived at the time she told me, and while I was expecting her to be a bit late, she ended up being an hour late. This is normal behaviour for her, but I was hoping she wouldn't do it since it was a one on one meeting. After an hour of waiting, I went home. I just wasn't in the party mood anymore... I texted her to apologise for leaving but said that I was not happy about having to wait for an hour. She's now ghosting me, and I'm afraid this could turn into an issue.
For context, my friend thinks she may have ADHD and associated 'time blindness' where she finds it hard to keep track of time. On the other hand, I feel like it's also a respect issue, since she manages to be on time to certain things- work, restaurants, shows... but just never with friends.
I don't want this to become an issue with my friend, but at the same time, I am really sick of this behaviour and want to have a serious conversation so that it can be addressed. What should I do?

Computer repair is dead, but I still have a commercial space that I own. I want to shift from Computer Repair to Electronics sales.
Where can I get cables, laptops, and all that other merch in bulk so I can sell it on Ebay in an official store and my brick & mortar in real life. I want to sell refurbished laptops, desktops, brand new cables of all kinds USB, Sata, Etc. Just a full blown electronics store.
I don't want to be a flipper scrounging through thrift stores for pennies. I want to be able to go to a supplier and say "send me 500 of these cables, and 50 laptops" priced, shipped to my office, done.
Where do I start?

I started off as an SDR (fresh grad) a couple of years ago on a base of £24K in London. I did well over the past couple of years having consistently brought in $2 million of revenue annually over the past 3 years, making around 60K commission on this each year.
I’ve been promoted and now train other SDRs etc, whilst continuing to bring in a large amount of revenue (brought in $350K alone last month) and my base is now at £37.5K.
I have always thought I was overqualified for this job (I have a very technical science degree and MSc from one of the best unis in the world) but I guess that is also what has made me so good at this job.
I have never had another job so I have no idea how this compares to other SDR esque roles in London. I kind of now do bits and pieces of everything in the company whilst also essentially running the sales dept. I’ve also contributed significantly to essentially the re-founding and re-branding of the company so it is dear to me but I feel as if I might be undervalued.
Not sure what the grass actually looks like on the other side in London so would appreciate any insight.

Hi All, I hope you are all doing well! With student loans beginning to accrue interest this month I started budgeting/tracking my finances more and am seeking opinions on what to do with my loans. I currently have ~20k in student loan debt with three loans, with the following info: 7500 (3.73%), 6596 (4.53%), and 5868 (5.05%). For budgeting information, I make ~95/100k a year based on bonus and put 8% pre/6% post into 401k (graduated May 2022). Aside from that money, I currently allocate monthly money based on the following:
- Rent/Utilities/Streaming (Spotify): 1350
- Car Gas/Upkeep: 250
- Food/Gym: 500
- Clothes: 250 (usually rollover and don't spend)
- Eating Out/Fun Spending: 750
- Savings: HYSA 1k, Roth IRA 540, Brokerage 250, Leftover goes here as well
I also have 21k in HYSA, 6.8k in Roth IRA, 18k in 401k, 3k in Brokerage, and about 25k in normal Checkings/Savings. I guess my question is whether or not I should be funneling my extra funds into my HYSA/Brokerage or into paying off my student loans? I ideally would like to purchase a house near Aug 2024 and don't know if paying off my loans in full/partial will help or if I should just pay the minimum monthly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have a friend (who doesn't do Reddit) who is having a really hard time finding roommate housing in the Oakland area because she still needs to be COVID conscious for her health, and fewer and fewer people seem to care about that these days. She's been passed over a few times in group housing interviews seemingly because she asked pointed questions about COVID precautions/plans if one of the house mates tests positive. Her timetable to find new housing before her current place ends is shrinking. I don't live in California. Does anyone who does have suggestions for groups or places to find COVID safe/disability friendly roommates?

My wife just started playing destiny PC as one of her first ever video games so she's quite the "noob" but she's getting put off by having no one to play with. She's scared to go to the destiny discord server as she's pretty shy. I played with her a bit but I'm not really playing destiny until final shape. I do not know how to make friends in destiny as I have had the same group of friends since house of wolves. Can I use the Ecobee Premium radar-based presence sensors as triggers for non HVAC related automations on HomeKit/Hubitat/HomeAssistant?
e.g. - automation: open the lights at a certain room when somebody enters a room. solution: the ecobee radar sensor will shoot a trigger that will open the room lights.

This is my fourth trip; I've only ever done cactus. This trip is unique compared to the first 3 because I spent it almost entirely indoors and the peak was ~80% blindfolded. The length of cactus is somewhat less than my forearm (250mm long by 90mm diameter). I believe the one I've got is unusually active or perhaps I'm sensitive to the effects.
The peak sequence of the trip involved a number of different dissolution sequences; with my eyes closed, shattering apart into shards of glass. Eyes closed the roof and floor of my house disappeared and suddenly I was floating in space (in a space? Another dimension? I'm not sure - I didn't seem to be outdoors where my house was in NZ), with the angle of my body moving and and shifting. Eventually I was back in the room, dissolving into paint and spreading out around the floor and onto the walls, and then starting to fold up on myself - turning inside out, my body breaking apart into pieces and forming a tunnel, and eventually flattening out round the walls of the tunnel. The tunnel stretches out, infinitely long as I hurtle through it; eventually it snaps back (or forwards? FOrward and back seem to be the same thing) and the tunnel - and me with it since I'm in the tunnel but am the tunnel (not sure there is a me at this point, really), snaps shut into a 2D circle.
I'm back again, floating in space; shifting vertically, upside down. I'm still in my house - but I'm not in my house. I'm everywhere, but nowhere.
For a time I am hanging out with my deceased brother - watching a nature documentary about NZ, only we are in NZ which is amusing, only we aren't in NZ, we are back in Canada, and we are in another dimension, somewhere between life and death. We chuckle about the absurdity of it all. I say that I'm trying to use the cactus to heal myself and change my habits but really it's just an excuse to hang out with him. He says he'll tell his side he is helping to fix me. Suddenly, I am on a ladder, with building supplies being fixed to me. My brother was a builder. I am my brother. I am passing building supplies to him on the ladder to fix me (or is it the other way around? There is no distinction anymore).
The music shifts (John Hopkins psychedelic playlist) into a great orchestral piece, and suddenly, I am out of body with a birds eye floating view of one of the most incredible sequences of my life. I am inside an enormous spherical theater or auditorium space, infinitely large, which I can only describe as being simultaneously a natural space but also clockwork; inside the sphere is another sphere, this one is my mind; but it is also the Gaia / infinite love / infinite unity experience from the second trip. I can see myself (and my brother) standing on this enormous ladder next to my mind, trying to fix the holes in the side of it. Around the mind (or Gaia ?) I can see many doors and windows, and a great many journal articles, papers, and images are flowing out of it, like someone holding a deck of cards and making them rapidly fly away into the air. I am in this space for eternity? Or a few moments - I don't know. Time has been frozen for some time (lol).
Eventually, I find myself in a different space. I can only describe it as like the moving staircase room from Harry Potter, and there are these great lengths of clockwork machine pieces being moved apart and re-arranged. It's me - I am being taken apart into all these pieces, and put back together. Some of the pieces are as they were before. Some are new. Some are fixed. One particular piece I recall is my right leg: Since an early bout with intense depression and suicidality in early university at 17 years old where I suffered an intense right knee / calf injury that had me limping for months, I have had some kind of somatization where whenever i get severely depressed or suicidal, the limp returns even though the injury has been healed for years.
Suddenly, a new space. An infinitely large auditorium, in space or another dimension, filled with these infinitely large clockwork men (think like the clockwork men from Doctor Who but infinitely large) it is one of the most incredible scenes I have ever witnessed. The men are frozen, because time is frozen.
Eventually, I am back - in NZ, in my room it seems, dissolving into paint and light and nacho cheese again. THere is a lengthy sequence involving mexican girls, a mexican ski lodge and building a ski lodge. Then, my sunrise alarm starts gradually turning on for the last hour of the trip, and I seem to dissolve into the light and spend the last hour of the peak drifting along as light.

Hi everyone. I have been interviewing 4 agents in the area and kind of stuck on who to hire and wanted to get some opinions.

1. Agent 1: Friend used this agent and highly recommended. However, agent is not the expert in my local area but she serves in the entire state. She is willing to travel 1.5 hr to accompany me in showings and all. Been an agent for >20 years. Independent agent. She was very attentive and patient with my friend. However, agent recommended waiving inspection but also had strategies to protect the buyer with things like purchasing home warranty.
2. Agent 2: Her flyers and profile states that she is one of top agents in from 2018-2020 in my area. She knows the area well. She has a team and has a showing agent. If she is not available, she will be using the showing agent. Showing agent wasn't at the interview but once we move on to the next step, main agent will be creating group chat and set meeting so that all three of us can be present. Been an agent for 8 years. She asked for the names of the agents that I have interviewed so far, which made me kind of uncomfortable but I honestly answered the question. On paper, she looks like she is closing 25-30 houses every year (seller and buyer combined). She claimed 85% of her buyer's first offer gets accepted and 95% of second offers get accepted.
3. Agent 3: One of the first agents that I met at open house. She knows the area really well as well. Her kids grew up in the area and lives in the town that I am interested in. Been an agent for almost 7 years herself. However, she stated that her parents are both agents as well and she knows the ins and outs by learning from her parents. Independent agent. She was the only agent that I met at open houses that were representing the sellers, usually another agent that is not representing the sellers are present at the open houses and showed that she knew the house well. Does not recommend waiving inspection even in current market.

I am a first time home buyer, who is purchasing in an area that is still very competitive. People are often payching 20k to 100k over asking price and often waiving inspection. Kind of overwhelmed with the initial process of even finding the right agent.
If you can share your experience or recommend what type of agent to work with, I will be very grateful.
