2023.06.08 01:11 Baby_Button_Eyes Jake & Rosa meet Mulder and Scully (B99 and X-Files crossover) (AI story)
I’ve been having fun creating “new“ scenarios for the B99 squad with AI chatbot. Not sure if anyone likes reading made up stories but visualizing this one really entertained me.
The first is my “script” version. Then the case from Jake’s point of view and then one from Rosa’s.
Script:
Agents Mulder & Scully join Detectives Jake Peralta and Rosa Diaz to solve a case where frogs fell from the sky.
Title: The X-Files: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Crossover
INT. PRECINCT - DAY
Detective JAKE PERALTA is sitting at his desk, eating a bag of chips. Detective ROSA DIAZ walks over.
ROSA DIAZ Peralta, you won't believe what just happened.
JAKE PERALTA What is it, Rosa?
ROSA DIAZ Frogs. Frogs just fell from the sky. Literally.
JAKE PERALTA (eyes wide) Frogs? Falling from the sky? That's insane.
As they ponder the situation, Special Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY from The X-Files enter the precinct, flashing their badges.
FOX MULDER (looking intrigued) I heard there's a case involving some unusual phenomena?
DANA SCULLY (following Mulder) Yes, we're here to investigate the reported frog rain.
JAKE PERALTA (stammering) Uh, hey, I'm Detective Jake Peralta, and this is Detective Rosa Diaz. We didn't call for any X-Files help.
FOX MULDER (sly smile) Sometimes the truth finds its way to us, Detective Peralta. I have a hunch that there's more to this than meets the eye.
DANA SCULLY (resolute) We'll assist you in finding out what's happening. Our expertise lies in investigating the unexplained.
ROSA DIAZ (deadpan) Great. More weirdos.
INT. FROG RAIN SITE - DAY
The group arrives at the location where the frog rain was reported. The ground is littered with frogs of various sizes and colors.
JAKE PERALTA (staring at the frogs) This is unreal. How did they fall from the sky?
FOX MULDER (observing) I suspect some sort of atmospheric anomaly or disturbance. But we won't know for sure until we gather more evidence.
DANA SCULLY (starting to collect samples) Let's begin by examining the frogs and their surroundings. We need to rule out any logical explanations.
JAKE PERALTA (looking at Mulder) Are you thinking extraterrestrial involvement, Mulder?
FOX MULDER (smiling) That's always a possibility, Detective Peralta. However, it could also be a result of a natural phenomenon or a man-made experiment gone wrong.
ROSA DIAZ (skeptical) Or maybe someone dumped a truckload of frogs from a plane. Seems more plausible.
As they continue their investigation, the group interviews witnesses and gathers more information.
INT. PRECINCT - NIGHT
The group assembles in the precinct, going through their findings.
JAKE PERALTA (showing a report) We've interviewed several witnesses who all claimed to see a bright light in the sky just before the frog rain. Some even mentioned hearing strange noises.
DANA SCULLY (pensive) These accounts of a bright light and unusual sounds align with typical UFO encounters. We should investigate further in that direction.
FOX MULDER (agrees) We also found some peculiar biological anomalies in the frogs themselves. It's as if they've been exposed to some unknown substance or energy.
ROSA DIAZ (getting frustrated) Can we skip to the part where we catch the culprits and wrap this up? I'm not a fan of frogs.
JAKE PERALTA (smirking) Alright, Rosa. Let's focus on tracking down any leads related to the light, noises, and any potential experiments in the area.
INT. SECRET LAB - DAY
The group uncovers a hidden laboratory in an abandoned warehouse, filled with strange equipment and scientific apparatus.
JAKE PERALTA (amazed) Whoa, look at all this crazy stuff. It's like we're in a sci-fi movie.
FOX MULDER (examining equipment) This lab seems to be experimenting with interdimensional travel. They might have inadvertently caused the frog rain by disrupting the fabric of reality.
DANA SCULLY (discovering a journal) I found a journal. It appears to contain detailed notes on these experiments. We might find answers here.
As they dig deeper into the lab, they find evidence linking the experiments to a mysterious organization with a hidden agenda.
INT. SHOWDOWN - NIGHT
In a climactic showdown, the group confronts the organization responsible for the frog rain.
JAKE PERALTA (holding his gun) NYPD! Drop your weapons and surrender!
A group of operatives surrounds them, but Mulder and Scully use their skills to outwit them, while Peralta and Diaz provide backup.
Finally, they manage to apprehend the organization's leader, who reveals their motives and the reasons behind the frog rain.
INT. PRECINCT - DAY
Mulder, Scully, Peralta, and Diaz return to the precinct, filing their reports and closing the case.
JAKE PERALTA (relieved) Well, that was something else. Thanks for your help, Mulder and Scully.
FOX MULDER (grinning) No problem, Detective Peralta. It was a pleasure working with you and Diaz.
DANA SCULLY (to Peralta) Remember, the truth is out there. And sometimes, it's stranger than fiction.
As Mulder and Scully prepare to leave, Peralta and Diaz exchange looks, pondering the mysteries that lie beyond their usual cases.
FADE OUT.
Jake’s experience:
It was just another day at the Nine-Nine, filled with the usual chaos and hilarity. But little did I know that things were about to take a wild turn. The precinct received a call about a bizarre incident: frogs falling from the sky. Frogs! I couldn't believe it. This sounded like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.
As the call came in, I was sitting at my desk, indulging in my usual shenanigans. The bullpen erupted into laughter as I performed my "Die Hard" reenactment with a stapler, but the laughter quickly subsided as Captain Holt announced the case. He assigned me and Rosa to work with a couple of federal agents named Mulder and Scully. Apparently, they were experts in dealing with the strange and unexplained.
I was beyond excited. Working with Mulder and Scully? It was like a dream come true. I mean, who wouldn't want to solve a case with the legendary paranormal investigators? But at the same time, I couldn't help but feel a little intimidated. These were the people who had faced aliens, monsters, and government conspiracies. Meanwhile, my biggest concern was finding the perfect nickname for Terry's biceps.
Mulder and Scully arrived at the precinct, and I couldn't help but be starstruck. They had an air of mystery and intrigue about them. Mulder had this intense gaze, always searching for hidden truths, while Scully was a no-nonsense, rational thinker. They were the perfect balance, and I knew we were in good hands.
We sat down in the conference room, surrounded by evidence bags filled with frogs. Mulder began discussing various theories about extraterrestrial activity and government experiments gone wrong, while Scully remained skeptical, leaning towards a more scientific explanation. It was like watching an intense debate between two brilliant minds.
As the discussion continued, I couldn't resist interjecting with my own outlandish ideas. Maybe the frogs were spies from a secret amphibian agency or victims of a teleportation experiment gone awry. Mulder seemed amused by my enthusiasm, but Scully gave me a look that said, "Please, stop."
Together, we began combing through the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and following leads. Mulder and Scully's experience and expertise brought a whole new level of insight to the investigation. They taught us to look beyond the surface, to question everything, and to never rule out the possibility of the extraordinary.
Rosa and I quickly realized that our different approaches to solving cases could actually complement each other. She brought her trademark badassery and razor-sharp instincts, while I brought my boundless energy and willingness to think outside the box. We formed an unlikely but effective partnership.
As the investigation progressed, we uncovered a secret laboratory hidden beneath a seemingly innocent pet store. It turned out that the store owner was conducting bizarre experiments, using a weather-altering device to make the frogs rain from the sky. His motivations? Well, that's a whole other story.
In the end, we apprehended the culprit and restored order to the frog population. Mulder and Scully shared their final insights, leaving us with more questions than answers. It was bittersweet saying goodbye to them, knowing that we had been a part of something truly extraordinary.
Rosa’s experience:
I leaned against my desk, rolling my eyes as I watched Detective Jake Peralta enthusiastically wave a piece of paper in the air. Mulder and Scully from the FBI? Seriously? What kind of case had landed on our doorstep this time? I took a sip of my coffee, bracing myself for whatever bizarre scenario Jake was about to throw at me.
"Rosa, you won't believe this!" Jake exclaimed, bounding over to my desk like an overexcited puppy. "Frogs! Frogs falling from the sky! This case has X-Files written all over it!"
I shot him a skeptical look. "Mulder and Scully? Really, Jake? You think they're going to solve our frog rain mystery?
Jake's eyes lit up, his voice full of childlike wonder. "Think about it, Rosa. Frogs are just dropping out of the sky. It's unexplained, it's weird, it's perfect for the X-Files team. Plus, who wouldn't want to work with the legendary Mulder and Scully?"
I grunted, not exactly convinced. But curiosity got the better of me, and I reluctantly followed Jake to the conference room. As I entered, I saw two figures standing by the whiteboard, deep in conversation. Mulder, a lanky man with an intense gaze, was scribbling something on the board while Scully, a composed redhead, observed him with a mixture of amusement and exasperation.
I took a seat at the table, crossing my arms over my chest. "Alright, Mulder, Scully. What brings you to the Nine-Nine?"
Mulder turned to face me, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Detective Diaz, I've heard of your reputation. A tough detective with a sharp mind. I believe our collaboration could yield interesting results. After all, the truth is out there, even in the form of falling amphibians."
I raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced by his charm. "Fine, Mulder. But I have one condition. No nonsense, no wasting time. We do this my way, got it?"
Mulder nodded, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Agreed, Detective Diaz. We're here to help, not hinder."
I glanced at Scully, who had been quietly observing our exchange. "And you, Scully? Any thoughts on our little froggy situation?"
Scully let out a small chuckle, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, Detective Diaz, I've seen my fair share of strange cases, but this one definitely takes the cake. Let's get to the bottom of it."
With that, our unlikely team was formed. Mulder, Scully, Jake, and me, united in our pursuit of the truth behind the raining frogs. We gathered our evidence, interviewed witnesses, and analyzed the meteorological data, all the while trying to keep Jake's enthusiasm in check.
As the days turned into weeks, our investigation took us down a rabbit hole of government experiments, conspiracy theories, and even ancient myths. Mulder's unorthodox theories and Scully's scientific skepticism clashed with Jake's wild imagination and my unwavering pragmatism. But somehow, amidst the chaos, a strange camaraderie began to form.
Together, we dug deep, uncovering a hidden plot involving weather manipulation and a disgruntled scientist seeking revenge. We confronted the culprits, unraveled their twisted motives, and brought them to justice. And when it was all over, we stood together, victorious.
As Mulder and Scully prepared to leave, I found myself feeling a hint of nostalgia. Despite our differences, our unconventional partnership had been strangely effective. I offered them a rare smile. "Thanks for the help, Mulder, Scully. It's been... interesting."
Mulder grinned, a glimmer of mischief in his eyes. "Likewise, Detective Diaz. Remember, if you ever need assistance with the unexplained, you know where to find us."
I nodded, realizing that even in the face of absurdity, there were connections to be made, friendships to be formed. And as the X-Files agents walked out of the precinct, I couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, there was more to this world than met the eye.

Wednesday Season 2
Episode 2- Woe Thy Enemy
Wednesday and Xavier are now reacting to the results of her vision, he looks scared
"Uh… well maybe this is one of those misdirection visions you sometimes get?"
She looks confused
"I just don't know… I… I need to get back to the school. You should too… it is getting late.
Xavier smirks
"Is the stone cold Addams looking out for me?"
She glares
"Do not test me…"
Wednesday exits the shed and walks into the darkening forest. The next day, Wednesday is at The Quad and sitting at a bench with Enid and Yoko. Yoko is drinking her cup of blood, Enid is trying on some hats, and Wednesday is packing a bag. Wednesday looks at Yoko
"What is your preferred blood type?"
Yoko stops sipping and responds
"O Positive is good, AB Negative has a nice punch to it."
Wednesday thinks
"B Positive leaves a pleasant coating in your throat… It is quite refreshing."
Enid pushes her drink away
"I… didn't wanna drink fruit punch anyway…"
Wednesday zips up more of her pack
"Relax Enid, no need to vomit here."
Enid's current boyfriend, Ajax, approaches the table with another student with him. Enid looks excited
"Hi babe! You're looking cutesy today…"
Ajax looks at his outfit
"But I wear this every day?"
"Oh I know… the point still stands."
Wednesday rolls her eyes at their over the top PDA. Ajax looks to his friend.
"Girls, this is one of my new buds, Trevor. One of the other Gorgons here."
He smiles at the girls and introduces himself
"Hi, nice to meet you guys."
Wednesday looks alarmed a bit
"You haven't met any of us before?"
Ajax interjects
"Trevor transferred here this semester after a stoning incident."
Trevor explains
"Wasn't anything crazy… someone broke my favorite coffee mug… and I got angry. I… didn't mean to hurt anyone but it happened. They lived though."
Enid looks surprised
"You stoned someone over a coffee mug?"
Yoko sips again and smacks her lips
"Some coffee mugs can be priceless, like the one of mine you broke last year? Divina gave me that one…"
Enid cringes
"Right… I swear that wasp was glaring at me. So I swatted it"
Ajax starts talking again
"Anyway, I'm kinda showing him around here. Thought I'd bring him up to me and X's room later."
They walk off and Enid notices Wednesday's judgmental look
"Why so judgy? He seems nice."
Wednesday Stands up
"Everyone is a suspect… that stalker is out there somewhere…"
Yoko drinks more
"But Ajax said he was a newbie. How could it be him?"
Enid notices her all packed up
"Uhm… where are you going?"
Wednesday reluctantly answers
"Jericho… I have a few missions to do."
Enid looks surprised
"Jericho!? Why? You don't wanna get evolved with normies again, right?"
Wednesday looks angered
"What I do on my own time is my decision. Come on Thing…"
Thing comes from messing with one if Enid's hats to Wednesday's bag
Just outside the gates to Nevermore, Wednesday hears someone calling her name
"Wednesday! Wait up.*
It's Eugene, he's got his backpack again
"What do you want, Eugene? I've got somewhere to be."
He straightens his glasses
"Where too? I don't want you out there alone Wednesday."
Wednesday stares at him and responds
"I wasn't the one who nearly died in the woods last semester… you need to stay here. I will be back later."
He frowns as she walks away
"But Hummers stick together…"
She sighs and rolls her eyes and turns around
"Fine… you may come along. But you follow my lead, and listen to me, got it?"
He smiles and runs up next to her
"Thank you Wednesday. So, where are we going?"
"Jericho."
Wednesday and Eugene are seen walking to Jericho as she monologue
"Returning to Jericho brings back some strange feelings. Perhaps Enid is right, I shouldn't get involved with anyone here. But there are some shady things going on at Nevermore. And I may need help"
She walks in the town and is filled with a dreadful feeling. Especially when she goes to the entrance of a familiar restaurant, The Weathervane. Eugene notices
"You ok? You look… scared?"
She groans
"I am not… scared… it's just strange, Ok. I… I had my first kiss here. And it hasn't sat right with me ever since. It's the moment where I went from feeling victorious… to feeling like I was a failure as a detective."
Eugene puts a hand on her shoulder
"You're not a failure, you're a hero."
She scoffs
"Please… don't call me that. Heroes are boring. I prefer the ones stuck in the middle."
Eugene giggles as they open the door. She walks inside and at the counter is no longer a tall, curly haired two faced monster. Just a normal Barista. She looks at Wednesday when she gets to the counter
"Hello young lady, can I get you anything?"
She nods
"I will take my usual."
The Barista looks confused
"You're a reg? I don't seem to remember you?"
Wednesday sighs
"We are Nevermore Students. School has been out of session for several weeks. But since this place has clearly no respect for its patrons, I will take a Quad Over Ice… "
She punches in the order
"And you, young man?"
He smiles
"A hot chocolate, please."
She punches in his
"Names?"
Eugene goes first
"Eugene."
"Addams. Wednesday Addams."
She looks surprised
"W-w-wednesday Addams? As in the Wednesday who stopped that monster on the loose who was also our former barista?"
Wednesday shrugs
"That is my name…"
The Barista smiles
"Then for your Valor, you may drink free here whenever you'd like. On the house."
Wednesday nods okay, and takes a seat with Eugene at a booth. Soon, a familiar person walks inside.
"Addams…"
*Wednesday turns to look, it's Lucas Walker."
"Lucas…"
Eugene seems happy
"Hey Lucas."
Lucas waves and talks to Wednesday.
"Look, I want to thank you Wednesday."
She's confused
"Thank me?"
He nods
"For putting the woman who killed my father behind bars."
She nods, understanding
"I see. I don't usually say this about everyone, but your father was a good man. He deserved a better fate."
Eugene interjects
"She means she's sorry…"
She eyes him
"Well, thank you. Guess I'll be seeing you around for the Nevermore Reopening Event next week?"
She's confused
"What event?"
He continues
"At the park next week. The mayor is planning a party of sorts for the returning students. Oh and uh… sorry about Tyler."
Now she looks upset
"Don't… let's just not talk about him. I know you two used to be friends. But after last semester… things are different."
Lucas goes up to the counter as Eugene talks to Wednesday.
"So, what else are we doing here besides getting drinks?"
She clarifies
"I need to talk to someone."
The scene then cuts to The Police Station. Eugene is now confused
"The police station?"
She nods
"I need to ask some questions. My stalker for one. Perhaps they can help me piece things together."
Eugene nods
"Makes sense. Let's go!"
She Grabs his shoulder
"Wait… you wait at the bench outside. I need to talk alone. Okay?"
He sulks
"Okay…"
She walks inside and the lady at the desk sees her
"Hello Miss. Can I help…"
She's interrupted by someone else
"Addams?"
Sheriff Galpin exits his office and has his normal stern look
"Sheriff Galpin…"
He walks slowly towards her
"What do you want, kid? You aren't causing trouble again, are you?"
She maintains her current facial expression
"That depends on what you mean about trouble. Anyway, I have come here to talk…"
He begrudgingly agrees
"I see, come on inside."
They enter his office and sit. He starts the conversation
"Okay… what have we now? Another monster. A zombie? What?"
She retorts
"I can tell you're mocking me. I too like to poke at people…"
He taps his desk
"Well… what do you got?"
She pulls out her phone
"Before I left Nevermore last semester… I started getting these pictures sent to me saying to watch out. Threats. I think it's a stalker."
Galpin looks at the pictures. The ones of her and Xavier. Her and Enid's room. And the one that strikes him the most, one of his son
"One of these is of… my son. That I can tell you is not him. He's still at the rehabilitation center for monsters."
She starts to talk
"That I know… Is he still turning into the Hyde?"
Galpin glares
"That is none of your concern. What matters is he ain't here."
She nods
"I understand. So, what do you recommend I do?"
He looks at his paperwork
"I can file a report to look out for suspicious activity online in the area. But it isn't a guaranteed method."
She nods okay
"It is a start I suppose. And… about… Tyler. I… I'm s… ss… sorry about him getting taken away."
He sighs and looks sad
"Appreciate it… and please don't mention him. It has been… difficult to say the least."
Wednesday Stands up
"Alright then. I should get going. Appreciate the help."
He retorts
"Don't get involved with any police business this time… I mean it this time."
She walks out the door
"I don't believe that helped much, Thing."
He signs that it's better than nothing. She feels a vibration in her pocket
"What now…"
She looks at her phone, it's her stalker
Stalker-
You think the cops can save you?
They send a picture of Eugene on the bench
"Shit… Eugene!"
She runs outside and he's just poking at bees on the bushes
"Eugene!?'
He looks at her
"What!? Everything okay!?"
She calms down
"Yes… it's nothing… I suppose."
He looks concerned
"Are you sure? You never get scared?"
She's insulted
"Scared? No, I was just… seeing if you were alright. Look at this."
He looks at the photo, he seems startled too
"Whoa… that's me! But… who is it? There's nobody here…"
She shoves it in her pocket
"That's what always happens. He or she just sends a picture and shows no signs of their occurrence. So far Me, you, Xavier, Enid… and even Tyler have been in the photos."
He walks with her
"So does that mean it's someone else?"
She nods no
"Possibly, but that doesn't mean there aren't multiple. Like Tyler and Thornhill."
He seems disappointed
"You think I'm involved?"
She keeps walking
"Not necessarily… I want to believe you, and Enid and Xavier. But I trusted and distrusted the wrong people last time. I don't want to rule anyone out."
He understands
"We should get back to Nevermore. Classes start in a half hour."
The two make it back. Wednesday arrives at Fencing class. She zips up her suit and walks to Kent
"Is Xavier late? He should be here."
He nods no
"Xavier didn't take fencing this time. He took another art class instead."
Divina interjects
"I think he's just afraid to lose to you."
The twins giggle
"That he should be. As should the two of you…"
Bianca walks out with her mask at her hip
"Wednesday Addams…"
She glances
"Bianca Barclay…"
She stands next to Wednesday
"Ready to be bested again? By the superior duelist?"
Wednesday seems confident
"Only if you are ready to be beaten quicker."
Ajax looks at them
"You two really gotta chill… there's more to this than beating each other."
Bianca looks at him
"It's just pre-game banter, Ajax. It isn't serious."
Wednesday interrupts
"I never said that…"
Everyone gives her their usually worried look as the coach speaks
"First round… Ajax against Trevor!"
The two Stoners look at each other and Mask up as the coach talks more
"En Garde…"
They take their stances. Enid looks happy
"You got this Ajax!"
He winks at her as he and Trevor touch blades and they start dueling. It's quite even until they pick up the pace as Trevor scores a hit on Ajax's lower arm
"Point to Trevor!"
Some of them applaud while Enid frowns. Ajax recuperates
"Ah… damn. Nice hit."
They form up again
"En garde…"
They mask up again and start to duel they're in a lock when Trevor takes Ajax by surprise as he strikes his knee
"Game… Trevor."
Ajax and Trevor shake hands and return to the stands. Yoko elbows Enid lightly to get her attention
"Your man needs some practice…"
Enid sticks her tongue out at her, annoyed. Ajax stands next to her
"Don't sweat it babe, we all have our bad days."
A few matches go bye. Yoko against Kent, Divina against Enid. And more. Finally Wednesday and Bianca are up. Bianca speaks up
"Finally some real players are up."
Some of the others scoff at her banter as They square up. Wednesday talks
"Do not get overconfident. I prefer a good even match."
Bianca gives her a playful cocktail grin
"We'll see Addams…"
They step back
"En garde…"
They mask up and immediately they start to strike and do spins and ducks. Wednesday doing side flips and the like. Bianca gets the upper hand and swings at Wednesday's arm.
"Point… Bianca!"
The others applaud at their match. Enid whistles
"That was amazing! You got the next round Wednesday!'
Wednesday gives her a confirming nod as they square up again. The Coach speaks
"En garde…"
They start dueling again, Wednesday does a flip over Bianca and swings behind her, disarming Bianca and promptly pokes her chest
The others Roar with applause as Bianca smiles
"Point… Wednesday"
"That was some good shit right there… let's see what you got on round three…"
They get ready once more
"En garde!"
They start dueling and as Wednesday clashes with Bianca her head jerks back and she falls hard. Bianca looks concerned
"Wednesday? You okay!?"
Enid and Thing run up
"She's having a vision, shit… now what…"
Wednesday is seeing a vision again. In its, she sees Bianca getting clonked from behind and knocked out. She wakes up out of breath. Trevor is confused
"What… what happened?"
Ajax explains
"Wednesday is a psychic… She has random visions of the future sometimes. It's some creepy shit dude."
Enid is at her side
"Hey? You okay? What'd you see?"
She holds her head and sits up, as she points at Bianca
"Me?"
She nods as she stands up
"You were knocked out… hit from behind by something…"
She looks at Divina worried
"Where?"
She tries to recollect
"It was hard to tell… but it was night time…"
Divina thinks of something
"I'd say we implement a buddy system?"
Wednesday looks confused
"What is that?"
She continues
"Nobody should travel anywhere alone. If you go somewhere… especially at night… have a buddy with you."
Enid nods
"That could work… why can't we just have a normal school year?"
Wednesday gestures to Thing
"Fortunately, I always have someone with me."
Kent looks at him
"But he's just a hand?"
Wednesday looks at him
"A hand that knocked you out, remember?"
He crossed his arms and pouts
"Don't wanna talk about that…"
Divina rolls her eyes
"Oh get over it…"
Enid checks the time
"Shit… it's 11:27. We gotta be at next class in 3 minutes. We should get going."
Bianca pats Wednesday's shoulder
"Good game Wednesday, you earned that one."
Wednesday is confused
"What? I didn't beat you?"
Bianca smiles
"I'll give you the win on this one. Just because that fall you took."
Wednesday nods
"I respect it, but next time be ready."
Bianca nods as she goes into a different direction.
"Whatever you say, Addams…"
Later in the day, Wednesday passes Principal Fairbanks and he talks to her
"Afternoon, Wednesday. I heard of your vision in Fencing. Everything alright?"
She nods
"It happens from time to time. I have been through worse."
He chuckles
"I'm sure you have. You take it easy, Addams."
Wednesday arrives in Herbology again and takes a seat, she looks to her right. No Xavier. Now she's suspicious. She takes out her phone and texts him
Wednesday-
Hey, I have not seen you around since last night. I want answers. Soon.
She puts her phone away as she hears a voice
"Want an in person answer?"
Xavier sits down. Wednesday looks at him
"The question still stands. You have been strangely absent today…"
He looks kinda offended
"What? Am I not allowed to have a social life outside of you? I thought you wanted it that way?"
She looks like she made a mistake
"It's just that things have been happening more now. More messages, more visions. More suspects."
He exhales a bit angered
"Alright. I see that. And let me guess… I'm at the top of your list again!?"
She backs down a bit.
"Xavier I… I didn't mean it that way… forgive my overstep."
He sighs
"Okay… I'll have you know I was actually talking with some girl in my 3D art class. We actually made plans for a date next week."
Wednesday looks strangely taken back by the revelation
"That sounds… good for you. I suppose."
He's confused
"What? Aren't you happy? You don't gotta worry about me and you being awkward anymore. I thought you'd like that news?"
She breaths
"I don't know what to think right now. A lot has come up today. And if I came out harsh, it was not meant that way. I shouldn't have sent that text."
He nods, not fully believing her
"Whatever… we should just get going on our assignments."
She goes to text Enid
Wednesday-
Me and you need to speak later.
Enid-
Oh yeah? Everything OK?
Wednesday-
Yes.
After school, Wednesday and Enid meet in their dorm room. Enid is pacing
"Okay… so why did you even text him? If you are just friends and you don't want to be together?"
Wednesday is at her Typewriter
"He was the only person who I haven't seen today until Herbology. My inner detective got into my head I suppose."
She looks at Wednesday
"There are more students outside of us and the Nightshades. You know that right?"
She looks annoyed
"I am not stupid Enid. Obviously I have considered that."
Enid stops pacing
"I heard about him and Jenna Thompson getting together. Not… exactly what I had in mind though. She's another psychic. What do you think?"
She looks confused
"Why should I have anything to think about it?"
Enid smiles a bit
"Because he's your friend? A friend who used to have a super crush on you? That doesn't change anything?"
She nods no
"The only thing it changes is that he has someone else to gawk at."
Enid giggles
"You're gonna miss it. Just you wait…"
She sighs and shakes her head when a knock is heard at the door. Enid answers it
"Hi Xavier! We were just talking about you. What's up?"
He looks at Wednesday
"I wanna talk with her."
She looks worried
"Wait... you came alone?"
He's confused
"Yeah? Why? It's just across the campus?"
Wednesday talks to him
"He wasn't there, remember?"
She cringes
"Right... anyway we should have a buddy system with this weirdo stalking Wednesday."
He nods
"I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll bring Ajax next time.
Enid let's him in
"Look Wednesday… I just wanna say… I'm sorry for blowing up earlier. It's just that I thought you'd be happy with me moving on."
She nods
"That is fine. I actually commend you for standing up for yourself…."
Ding
Wednesday gets a text again… the stalker

2023.06.08 01:08 TheMike0088 [PBE] An open discussion on legends
First things first, this is not a guide. i'm just some random diamond player, I don't think I'm good enough at the game to make guides on it.
That being said, I haven't seen anyone really talk about the available legends yet, which is surprising since, of the two set mechanics, its the one you have full control over, so you'd think it'd be a more debated topic. So, thats what this post is for - I'm gonna share my thoughts on each legend (or at least their 2-1 augments, I think most of the 3-2 and 4-2 legend augments aren't worth it), and in the comments, y'all can tell me how wrong I am!
Asol - amazing. Cutting corners is not great imo as it doesn't save enough money, but level up and especially patient study are absurdly good and can easily help you outpace the rest of the lobby. Also one of few legends where the 3-2 and 4-2 augments are decent too.
Bard - bad. Caretakers ally is atrocious, favor is alright but if you want components, just play ez, and chosen is only good if you can go to 9 AND doesn't give immediate power. Imo the worst legend.
Caitlyn - really good. One twos three is meh, but stars are born helps a lot with winstreaking early, and starter kit not only does that but provides comp direction as well. Starter kit is one of the best 2-1 augments in general imo, even post-nerf. Also another legend with decent 3-2 and 4-2 augments.
Draven - used to be my go-to, now I'm not sure how good he is anymore post-nerf. Would love input on that.
Ezreal - i feel like the game gives you enough components as is, and caitlyn is better for early game advantage, so I think he is mid.
Lee Sin - amazing. Where asol has a bad silver and great gold and prismatic augments, lee sin has great silver and gold, but a bad prismatic. There's a whole post on here detailing why on a roll is goated, trade sector helps you stay ahead of lobby power level till at least stage 4 if not 5, but shopping spree feels like a considerably worse trade sector.
Master Yi - maybe I'm underestimating pumping up, but I don't think any iteration of it is that great.
Ornn - I love Ornn, but I'm also very biased towards ornn items. That being said, I at least think he's the better 'item legend' between him and ez: e.g. when 2-1 is a gold augment, getting an ornn item is way more impactful than getting 3 components imo.
Pengu - amazing for when you're still learning the game/set, when you hardforce losestreak comps, or when you wanna guarantee getting no worse than 6th place (which might honestly be the play once the set goes live and you play for LP).
Tahm - really solid. gold advantage early is based, as you can transform it into either level advantage, power advantage, or a mix of both. I don't think the increased interest cap of rich get richer and hedge fund is worth going after in most cases, but the gold itself definitely is.
Twisted Fate - bad, and a hard noob trap, as it invites greeding for BiS and having like 5+ components sit on the bench for multiple rounds, gathering dust as you lose over and over due to lacking board strength.
Urf - currently, what I almost always see at the end of a match is one urf player in the top 2, and 3 urf players in bot 4. I think eventually as people figure out the set, urf is gonna be one of the best legends for high elo players who can get power worthy of a gold augment out of almost any emblem, but for the majority of players, he is probably gonna be too low roll susceptible.
Veigar - forces you into AP comps. If you hardforce sorcerers, sure, but other than that, veigar is bad.
Vlad - mid. I think transfusion is solid, but only as a 4-2, maybe 3-2 augment, not as a 2-1 augment: you both don't know yet if you're gonna winstreak which would make transfusion a lot worse, nor does it provide enough immediate power.
Poro - unironically not the worst. Yes you don't get a tailored 2-1 augment, but that means you also don't get a tailored but weaker 3-2 or 4-2 augment, meaning on those stages, you get up to 6 potentially viable augment choices, rather than 5.
Overall, I think its hard to proclaim a definitive best legend since its heavily dependent on playstyle, but outside of comp-hardforce scenarios, I'm struggling to find arguments for any legends other than asol, ornn and lee sin. What do you think?

2023.06.08 01:08 BuddyGuy91 Ryans tweet, Furlong firing, and Todays short attack
Today GME's stock price is under attack on all fronts.
This is the same play again and again that happens in all different tickers. Let me explain my take of the situation.
First off, the forum is being bombarded by FUDsters. Lowkey many accounts today are bashing earnings. Comments bashing investors, trying to demoralize them and brag about how they played the stock short and are "winning" etc.
Second thing you need to know is that your initial investment reasoning is valid. Gamestop has solid fundamentals. And the turnaround process has bumps but its magnificent to watch the progress of it. The board of Gamestop has made great decisions thus far, and the Furlong firing doesn't have me shook in the slightest.
Third and most importantly. The same pattern is playing out as I've seen before. These same kind of tactics play out in many other stocks. The "not a halt" to probably get the price under control or in the range shorties wanted, to being followed by an extreme short attack in after hours. They want people to believe they are going to be bag holders and panic. Usually what I've seen, is shorters will hire another company to shake holders of a stock. They'll hire the likes of financial hitmen, like beHind-assburg Reacharound-search or equivalent to issue a short report and they'll flood that shit all over Reddit and the shill media. Today was very similar.
First shorties used such method to attack Icahn's stock and reputation. Then buddy's documentary was released 2 weeks early with no attention to get any positive sentiment buried in news feeds and out of the way. Then see-n-b-shitty released their hitpiece documentary and shoved it in peoples faces everywhere in the media so it gets all the attention. Then they short attacked the price in after hours and smeared RC yet again, on earnings. I bet they'll talk smack all day maybe even all week after not even mentioning GME once when the stock price soars. It's become repetitive, their shitty gameplay of the stock market that is. There's a superior move called DRS that will overcome that crap in the long run.
They used Matt's termination of his employment contract to smear. Shills using RC's own words to speculate its due to underperformance. We still don't have a reason for the termination of the contract. Maybe Matt needed it terminated to null a non-compete agreement so he could move on to somewhere else. Or maybe it was needed so that he could head a company that can then partner with Gamestop. All speculation, no one outside of it knows for sure. But they used it to character attack RC and I see articles saying Gamestop had all these things going for them like Zelda sales and Diablo, as if Diablo releasing yesterday would be counted in earnings! The shill media makes me laugh with their shitty shill attempts. So-called journalists, haaa! They are terrible actors at best. It's so easy to tell when they're lying. For real, AI deepfakes will have no challenge putting them out of a job.
But that brings me to Ryans tweet. I'm sure it was a play on Furlong with his choice of words, but the meaning was likely his response to all I said above. Shorties wanna short attack GME stock price? Character attack RC and Matt and make it personal? Well NOT FOR LONG. He fired back without giving away anything, that has my tits le jacqued!
I'm diamond handed as fuck and I still think the price is destined to go up. This failure of an attempt to shake my diamond hands has my boner experiencing "violent upside potential." The final compression of the spring before its release, inevitable like my boner.
I also want to thank shorties for their dumbass desperation and giving me the opportunity to buy and DRS more shares cheaply. I find GME stock to be attractive at this price point. Thanks noobs.
DISCLAIMER: This is my opinion. Do not take investment action based on my opinion. I'm just as regarded as the next autist.

2023.06.08 01:06 Slasher9485 Theory: The True Motivation of Tiger Niko and Why Ohma isn't as Important to the Worm as you think.
I brought this up a few times in some other posts but I wanna put this here with full details. Tiger Niko is one of the most mysterious characters in the series. But all these last chapters put things into perspective for me and I think I can conclude not only what Tiger Niko wants at the end of his journey, but also why the worm is so passively interested in Ohma and way more focused on Ryuki.
Let's go over what we know about Tiger as of now. He was a studen of Gaoh Mukaku, he betrayed all of his fellow students and master to join the worm, he continued honing the niko style under his own tutelage along with having the resources of the Worm to do with it as he sees fit, continued working on the Niko style and created formless while doing the Gu rituals, went to go fuck with Ohma when he was younger and taught him advancing spirit, continued to fuck with him and took on new students to "teach" the Niko style and formless to, use his connections with the worm to learn about Guihun from Edward in order to further evolve the Niko style, and has let his students all die for the sake of his own research. Putting all of that together, what can we conclude?
Tiger has known about Ohma being a clone for a long time. While he was doing his experiments and developing a new style for the worm (formless) he must have gained enough influence to learn about Huisheng. From there he learned that one of the connector clones was taken under the wing of his old buddy. He couldn't interact with Ohma at all, or even try to steal him away probably cause the worm for two different speculative reasons: They let Ohma be an orphan in the inside to see if he's strong enough to be a candidate for the connector or they wished to see how his potential under our OG Niko is. Cause thinking about it, by the time Ohma was in training with OG Niko, Tiger could've asked the head for some back up and killed OG Niko and take Ohma away whenever he wanted to. Sure they were still dealing with the Wu clan at the time (this is before the big betrayal after all) but I'm sure the head would send some back up if he REALLY wanted Ohma. But they didn't. Cause roughly when Ohma turned 8, Ryuki was cloned. And the worm are all hyped up about how great he'll be and what they will do to make him the perfect vessel for Shen Wu long. The worm may have lost interest in Ohma, but not Tiger. Now Tiger had reason to directly interact with Ohma. Without the worm's eyes on him, he could interact with him and mold him however he wanted. Which is why he manipulated Kiryu and taught Ohma the advance.
He's still doing everything to continue to advance the Niko style though, and that also includes improving the advance. That's why he went to Eddy to learn about Guihun because the Niko style hit a "dead end" and that dead end was the toll the advance left on you. He used his students and taught them advance, guihan and eventually Divine Devil, combing both of those techniques into one singular thing. All of his students end up injured or dead from the results of his training. But that's all that Tiger wants: Results. He doesn't care what happens to those he teaches so long as he learns from his experiments to improve the Niko Style. But why though? Why put all this effort into a martial art that he seems to have ZERO intention of passing on? Simple: He doesn't plan on passing it on. And that's the truth about the phrase "Tiger's vessel.". Tokita Ohma is now not going to be a vessel for Shen Wulong... **TOKITA OHMA IS GONNA BE A VESSEL FOR TIGER NIKO!!**
Think about it: Given everything that Tiger Niko has gone through, what the hell would be worth it at the end of the day? Becoming basically an immortal being with an invincible martial art. I'm sure Shen Wu Long is fine with it because even though Huisheng is a ritual meant for allowing him to continue living on as long as he has, other people are capable of doing it. Hell, it was being done with Hayami Masaki to turn him into Meguro. It's not like it's impossible to do it with other people outside of Shen, and I'm sure Shen is cool with it because he has an immortal body guard that will be an insane benefit to the worm. It's the only motivation that makes sense!
Now I know what you're thinking: But didn't the worm want Ohma too? After all, he was about to die if it wasn't for the worm giving him a new heart. Why would they let Tiger keep Ohma to himself if they were intent on nabbing him too? Well this latest chapter put that fear to bed for me. Because in Gaoh's words, he destroyed THE LAST cloning facility the worm had and kidnapped Ryuki. But I don't think the worm knew that Ryuki was still alive until the events of Omega. I mean Gaoh's a pretty smart guy to be able to survive this long while being marked by the worm, there's no way he would've left a single hint that Ryuki would be alive. So the worm decided "Sorry Tiger, Plan B is now Plan A." and went ahead with giving Ohma a new heart and planned on capturing him at some point. That shit went south the moment the Kure clan took possession of Ohma though. Things were looking a little bleak, but that's when Gaoh had Ryuki participate in Kengan matches to make himself known to the worm. Their Plan A came back and even though Ohma is now Plan A adjacent, the events of the purgatory tournament reconfirmed in their eyes that Ryuki is the one to be Shen Wu Long's successor. And where does that leave Ohma? Back in Tiger Niko's hands.
Maybe we'll get some dialogue dismissing all of this, but I feel confident that this is why Tiger Niko is obsessed with Ohma, the Niko style, and working with the worm. It all makes sense from his perspective and makes a lot of his actions make sense. Like when he let 5 die due to the influence of the advance: Even back then he was gathering data to improve the Niko style. He didn't use advance when 5 did because he was observing him use it, hence him just going "Oh, so that's what happens when you overuse it.". He was always obsessed about perfecting the niko style, evolving it beyond Mukaku's tutelage, and then making it his own **FOREVER** . And the worm gave him the resources to do it. Everything he's done makes sense when you think about the prize at the end of the road.
Tl;DR: The worm regard Ryuki as the perfect vessel so Tiger Niko is gonna use Ohma for his own Huisheng ritual once he evolves the Niko style to the point of perfection, making him an immortal being with his own badass style. The worm gives Tiger the resources to make this happen and keep ohma alive just in case Ryuki fails. But if Ryuki doesn't, which in their eyes he hasn't, Ohma's all Tiger's.

2023.06.08 01:03 Lin4ol (Adult cats) From roommates to real friends?
Hi all,
First time having 2 cats and while things are going well, I'd love to know if some people went from a "roommate" relationship to a true friendship between their adult cats.
A little bit of background: two neutered male cats, 7 and 10 respectively. The 7 yo is the new addition, adopted after a family member passed away. Strictly indoor cats, in a 100 m² house. (~1100 sqft)
After 2 months, they don't touch nose, cuddle, or groom each other like true cat friends do, and often keep separate, but they coexist mostly peacefully. I duplicated all resources so they've claimed their favorites spots and the other one has learned to respect that. I use Feliway Multicats. They hang out in the same room without hissing at each other, eat together a few feet apart, relax in spots close to each other sometimes, even play together (I've read a lot about real fight vs. play and they're fine). No behavior issues: they eat well, and use their 3 litter boxes just fine, and overall they're behaving like normal cats, so they don't seem stressed by the situation. There's still the occasional disagreement of course, so I'm very present to help them get along. I feel like they're still learning each other's boundaries so there are a few hiccups sometimes. But overall, if I look back at the last 9-10 weeks, their relationship is improving.
It's been only 2 months and I've seen that it can take up to a year for adult cats to become buddies (if they ever do; I know they may just remain "roommates" and it's okay), and even longer for 2 males. Just wondering what are the odds of their relationship evolving over the next few months toward a real friendship? Or is it more likely to remain pretty much the same? Tell me about your cats and how they became friends (or not?).

2023.06.08 00:53 dvorakk2 What could make this concept better?
2023.06.08 00:52 burningburningbur Moved my main camp and my tame is beating up my camp.
I moved from ammo factory in the savage divide, to just south east of AMS in the ash heap. My level 50 basic deathclaw, has evolved during his journey across the map. He's now a level 60 alpha deathclaw. I'm thinking, damn, nicer texture and higher level? Score! But unfortunately he is attacking anything in sight, especially the C.A.M.P unit. I know how scorched tames work, (abandoned my lvl 100 megasloth because a beast scorched him a while back,) but my deathclaw isn't scorched. Is there a fix to this? Is it because he has the alpha prefix?

2023.06.08 00:52 ZJP31 Lionel Messi’s Career Has Played Out Like a Movie
A humble boy from Argentina blessed with other-worldly football talent committed himself to a Catalan club with his signature written on a napkin. He would eventually debut with the first team and shock the world with his phenomenal ability.
Coached by one of the most genius managers in history and mentored by arguably the greatest midfield duo ever, Leo would go on to shine for his club which he loved so much and deliver numerous trophies and magical moments.
Eventually FC Barca would be overseen by idealists obsessed with star-power similar to the club’s bitter rivals Real Madrid. Over time, this transfer policy would erode the identity of Barca and result in extreme financial mismanagement leading to degrading team performance after expensive transfers that were not effective. Leo and the rest of the aging core would continue to carry the responsibility of leading the club to consecutive league titles in difficult times.
After an embarrassing 2018 CL exit, Leo Messi at the age of 31 would single handedly dismantle a strong Liverpool side in the first leg of their 2019 CL encounter as he promised the Camp Nou he would do everything in his power to bring the trophy home once more. Despite his best efforts, the team collapsed at Anfield and were once again embarrassed out of the competition.
Two years and three managers later, things would only get worse. More embarrassing CL ejections, pandemic financial turmoil, and consecutive defeats for the league title. Leo was frustrated, he was getting older and his body wasn’t what it once was. He tried leaving Barca but the board was ready to take the matter to court. Leo stayed because he loved his club too much to endure a legal battle.
After the appointment of a new board and president, Leo was assured his contract would be renewed and he was committed to staying under new leadership. It wasn’t until the eleventh hour that Leo was informed the club could not afford him and that he could not continue at Barca. Feeling broken and betrayed by the club he gave his life to, Leo would take his family to Paris to begin a new chapter.
Little did the Argentine know what was to come, as the football gods looked down upon him and smiled, writing his destiny of greatness into stone. Leo endured great suffering with the Argentinian national team never having won a trophy with them, and many Argentines questioned his capability and loyalty to them. The appointment of a visionary coach and a team willing to die for their captain would see Argentina to their first international trophy in 3 decades, the Copa America. This victory would set Leo’s soul free and set the stage for the greatest triumph of his career.
During his 2nd season at PSG, Leo Messi would captain Argentina to their first world cup in almost 40 years. Leo played with ice in his veins surrounded by young and energetic players and brilliant tactics which resulted in overcoming the French powerhouse. The economically turmoiled nation was celebrating, because the little boy from Rosario gave them a reason to smile again, and cemented himself as the greatest footballer of all time.
Leo’s contract at PSG ran down and he was excited at the opportunity of re-joining Barca for one last ride. Unfortunately, the club was still recovering from financial turmoil and had to go to extreme lengths to attempt to re-sign him. In the end, Barca could make no guarantees and Leo was still haunted by his previous exit from the club. He chose to join the MLS and move to Miami to ensure consistency for his children, relieving Barca financially, and securing his own financial future.
Lionel Messi has reached immortal status, and is loved endlessly by the Catalan and Argentinian people. He has achieved everything possible with both teams and has nothing left to prove.
In life, closure is never a guarantee - even for the greatest footballer of all time. Let us not dwell on how he left, but celebrate the magical moments he gave us. Nothing is forever, but his name will live on through us. The phenom, the legend, the chosen one - Lionel Andres Messi.

2023.06.08 00:43 Poueff Finishing Oathbringer and starting RoW
I've been binging Stormlight for the first time and recently finished Oathbringer. Originally I was planning on moving on to Rhythm of War right away, but some of the elements in the series I dislike most became more prominent during Oathbringer and the book disappointed me a fair bit. I was planning on at least finishing Stormlight Era 1, but now that I finished Oathbringer I'm not sure I should go through Rhythm of War, especially given the negative feedback it seems to have.
Some of the stuff I didn't enjoy in Oathbringer:
- Shallan. I find her portrayal of DID and repressed memories thus far to be extremely weak (in contrast to the rest of the mental illness portrayals which I think are ok to good). Shallan feels like a fanfic character, and though I am invested in her story, I haven't enjoyed her chapters in any book. I'm fine with the puns and I love Pattern, it's the ~everything else~ that's the problem. Especially the ever-evolving backstory, which seems to turn the serious condition of repressed memories into a way for convenient exposition at plot-relevant times.
- Flashbacks that take up too much time. I enjoyed young Dalinar, but there wasn't enough "there" to justify so many pages about it.
- Bad "adult" scenes. The scenes that featured politicians, diplomacy and meetings in Oathbringer were honestly embarassing to read. I saw a comment here about how it felt like 13 year olds playing soldier or dressing up in their parents' clothes, and I couldn't agree more. A meeting devolved into chaos and Navani or Jasnah fixed it by going "Azish people, you like bureocracy right? Wanna do the paperwork for the coalition? And Thaylens you're good at merchants, want to take care of that?". Do they get better in RoW, do they happen less frequently, or is it always this bad?
- The young adult vibe. Honestly at first I bought Stormlight as epic fantasy, it even got very dark with the concept of bridgemen (I don't necessarily want dark fantasy, just adult fantasy). The history behind the Listeners and all of the dilemmas and tricky philosophical questions that could come from the early conflicts were very intriguing. But halfway through WoR and now in Oathbringer I feel like I'm reading a shonen manga turned novel. Love triangles, a focus on "anime powers-ups", a very whiney and angsty main cast, a relatively simplistic "good vs evil" dynamic with a main villain literally called Odium (Odio means hate in Portuguese and Spanish). It's like they side-stepped all of the interesting questions, the oaths all end up being basic kindergarten platitudes. "I'll protect the weak!" isn't exactly a ground-breaking principle, having 3 different versions of that as the Windrunner oaths together with "carpe diem" as the first oath feels sort of silly. Which leads me to...
- Everyone is just so damn mopey in Oathbringer. I can enjoy a story about characters with mental illnesses or vices (Teft and his drug addiction is an interesting thing to explore), but when 90% of the cast is always whining and being sour it's just not a very engaging read. Yeah ok, realistic, but how much of that gets exposed to the reader is the author's prerogative, and also when the characters go through their arcs. It's usually repetitive whining too, at least evolve a little so it doesn't feel like padding. The one bright spot is Adolin, but he seems to be taking a back seat for anything that actually matters plot-wise.
- The "hard magic system" is a bit of a lie. Yes, it's layed out as if it was physics, but new rules and features get pulled out of thin air whenever a main character needs an anime power-up. It doesn't help that much of it is either in other books or not revealed at all yet, so the old idea of "you need to know what to expect from characters so things don't feel like ass pulls" doesn't really apply. There's just such a massive amount of lore and orders and tiers of gods and shards and other random magical details, that essentially anything can happen and be justified in retrospect with new details. Like Dalinar creating a perpendicularity to bring the cast from Shadesmar, how convenient that whole sequence was.
- The sheer volume of lore and world building is also overwhelming to the point where I'm frequently glossing over stuff. I'm not into the interludes that only serve to introduce a random island that might be relevant 2 books later. I'm also not into the times where the text just throws a bunch of new words at you without explaining what any of it means, and hope you remember it when it comes up 600 pages later. I'm invested in characters, relationships, ideologies, cultures. I'm interested in seeing how a character like Jasnah or Dalinar handles hard questions, or how Kaladin's relationship with his family and friends evolve as his powers grow. I'm not invested in memorizing lore like it's a wiki article, shard of adonalsium this, investiture that, give me a break. It feels self-indulgent - it's a book, not a tabletop RPG module. (Incidentally, this is also why I'm not that big of a fan of the foreshadowing in this series. There's just such an insane amount of details given and also so much still unknown about the lore, that it's not easy to understand what matters and what doesn't.)
- In Oathbringer, Roshar started to feel very disconnected, like it's not one world and more a collection of place descriptions. The characters having these crazy powers and being able to teleport between far-away places doesn't help, but this didn't happen in the first book. The first book talked about how culture evolved from one town to the next, how trade routes shaped cities like Carbranth in relation to the places around it, and how it all changed due to the shift to the Shattered Plains. Now it's just "Thaylen is the merchant city, Azir is the lawyer city and they have neighbour problems". As the scale of the conflict grows, I'm worried this becomes more of an issue - with characters jumping between Shadesmar and possibly the spiritual realm or other planets in the future.
I really enjoyed The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, and I'm fond of the characters and want to see the story through. But Oathbringer really shat on my cereal and honestly even the Sanderlanche wasn't that worth it (the big W is the enemy retreating? ok lol). From my reaction to Oathbringer, will I also dislike Rhythm of War? These books are really long, it's a big time investment

2023.06.08 00:36 sl33pyt00 I want a Jjba spin-off of the the evolution of spin
In part 7, Gyro talks about how the people in the medieval times used to spin to break through the defenses of the helmets and armor they used. Which got me thinking what started spin and how did it evolve through all the different timelines from the 1100s to the 1890s and so I think a spin-off series about the origins and evolution of spin would be very interesting and I was wondering what anyone else in the community thought about it.

2023.06.08 00:30 JeliPuff Felix Vail: The Pedophile Serial Killer Caught After 54 Years (PART 1)
Yesterday I had multiple people ask me to post this, and their comment has 552 likes at the time of me writing this, so I have spent the last day and a half editing, and adding information so it's up to standard. Overall, it has taken me close to a week to make. It probably isn't perfect, but I will edit it if I notice any mistakes. I hope you enjoy ❤
I would like to start this off by saying that this is an incredibly long write-up. This case spans 54 years, and this write-up is over 8650 words long, and is in fact so long that it exceeded the character limit, forcing me to make 2 parts.
u/that1guywiththehat has already covered this case, and their write-up is much shorter. I will link it here, and you can check it out if you'd like. They did a fantastic job. 😊
https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/g3wqcc/after_18yearold_annette_craver_vail_vanishes/ Secondly, this write-up borrows
EXTENSIVELY from "Gone," a 35,500 word book about the life and crimes of Felix Vail. It contains information that you simply cannot find anywhere else, and I'd estimate that around 80% of this write-up uses it's information. While it's extremely long, being over 4 times the length of this write-up, it is well worth the read. I will also link it here so you can check it out if you'd like.
https://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/local/felixvailgone/2016/12/29/felix-vail-gone-one-wife-dead-two-other-missing-jerry-mitchell/95895894/ Now with that out of the way...
PART 1:
MARY HORTON:
Born on the 16th of February 1940 to Floyd and Lillie Horton, Mary was popular, beautiful, and well liked. She became homecoming queen at Eunice High School and wrote for the school newspaper. After graduating she began attending McNeese State University where she was so popular that all 5 sororities invited her to join. She eventually chose Chi Omega.

A FATEFUL ENCOUNTER In 1960 she began dating William Felix Vail Sr, who goes by Felix. He was 6’, slender and in the words of another sorority girl “looked like he’d been touched by heaven.” In her diaries and messages to friends, Mary spoke of being happy and excited. However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows for the young couple.
On June 20th, 1960, Mary confided in a friend “I really do love Felix, but I don’t think that I like him anymore. He really is sweet, but we don’t see eye to eye on things.” She requested that a friend set her up on a date with another man in the hopes that Felix would leave her.
In response to this date, he came to Mary saying he suffered from a disease. She asked what disease he had. He meant Mary.
The 2 had a conversation that Mary described as ‘Felix doing all the talking, and her just listening.’ He told her that he had changed, and she said that she had too.
The 2 began dating again, but Mary continued to see other people. She attended a house party with Kelley McFarland, who afterwards heard that Vail was so angry he ‘wanted to kill him.’ McFarland tracked him down, eventually meeting him in dark woods. The 2 exchanged no blows, and they went their separate ways.
After this incident, Mary described herself as “miserable” and Felix as “jealous”, although she reiterated her love for him. There was reportedly an incident at a pool party where Felix “walked up to Mary and just slapped the heck out of her,” according to Mary’s high school boyfriend Leonard Matt.
Despite everything, Mary continued to defend him, calling him a “wonderful person.”
THE MARRIAGE On July 1, 1961, in Eunice, Louisiana, Mary Horton and Felix Vail got married.

In the fall of that year, Mary began her job as a second-grade teacher at Moss Bluff Elementary School. That December, she found out she was pregnant. Another teacher, Myrtis Quinilty said Felix didn’t want a child.
Her sister-in-law, Sue Jordan, told Mary the only reason Vail believed she wanted to get married was to have a baby, and not because of him. Mary blamed herself, saying “I can see, looking back, from many things I said how they could have been misunderstood.” Mary insisted that the couple were happy but did comment on how unattractive she felt while pregnant, a sentiment that Felix shared.
On their anniversary, Mary gave birth to William Felix Vail Jr, who they called Bill.

At this time, strange things began to happen in the couple’s apartment. One morning, the couple awoke to find their front door had been removed from its hinges. Another time, they found the front door of their apartment wide open. Nothing was stolen.
Mary began receiving threatening calls. The couple concluded that whoever was calling must be watching them because the caller only ever did it when Felix wasn’t home.
Mary spoke with her mother about divorcing Felix. Her mother, a devout Catholic, urged her daughter to stay and work things out. It would be a fatal mistake.
MARY'S DEATH On October 28th, 1962, at 7:30pm, Felix Vail drove up to Shell Beach saying that his wife had fallen in the water of the Calcasieu River while they were running trot lines. It took 2 days to find her body, close to where Vail had said she disappeared.
Her funeral was held on October 31st. Vail never paid a cent for it.
On November 4th deputies arrested Vail at work, hauling him to jail and questioning him. He refused to take a lie detector test. The coroner ruled Mary’s death an “accidental drowning,” a sentiment not shared by the officers who found her body, or the community at large. Days later, Vail was released without charge, as the D.A declined to prosecute.
Months later, he picked up his son, Bill, from the Louisiana home of his late wife’s aunt and headed for Mississippi. According to Bill years later, Vail told him that he and Mary were out fishing, that a boat had come by and caused a big wave and knocked her out of the boat. Mary didn’t know how to swim, had no life jacket (despite being afraid of water) and so immediately sank and drowned. He said he had almost died trying to rescue her.
I will go further in depth into Mary’s death further down this write-up when I go through the investigation that followed, decades later. There are more details that I will cover there. ROBIN SINCLAIR: In this section I will cover his relationship with a girlfriend between the murders of Mary Horton and Sharon Hensley. Vail was a full-time scumbag and I want to illustrate that, as well as show some of the other lives he’s impacted, and other people he’s hurt. I will be covering multiple instances like this one. If you only want to read about the 3 murder victims, feel free to scroll down, I have them clearly marked for convenience. AN 11 YEAR AGE GAP AND A DEAD-BEAT DAD
In 1967, Vail met a 17-year-old Robin Sinclair at a bus stop in San Diego. (Vail would have been 28 at this time. Large age gaps will be a theme in this write up.) She was spending the summer there with her sister, and the 2 began dating. When summer break ended, she left without him, returning home to San Francisco.
In October of 1968 while attending an Iron Butterflies concert, Vail appeared again. Sinclair took it as a sign that the 2 belonged together. He had his young son Bill, and the 3 bounced from place to place together. Sinclair would later describe how Bill was poorly looked after, neglected and that Vail would even give the young boy drugs. Bill would later recount his father giving him LSD as a child.
While watching over another couple’s home during the Christmas holidays, she learned she was pregnant and shared the news with Vail. He said, “Well, I don’t think you’re emotionally stable enough to handle the pregnancy.” The next morning, Vail and his young son had vanished. A friend told Sinclair that he went back to Mississippi, that it was time for his son to go to school and that he didn’t want to be with her.
Heartbroken, Sinclair would move in with her parents. In August of 1969 she gave birth to her daughter, who she named Simone. She wrote Vail an angry letter, and 2 months later he showed up on her doorstep. She told him to leave, and that she never wanted to see him again. She never did.
SHARON HENSLEY:
Sharon Hensley was born on December 20th, 1948. Growing up in the state capital of Bismarck, North Dakota, she dated football players and belonged to the high school’s 'Demonettes', an award-winning dance team founded by a former Rockette.
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT-drYY1YZjqadja6gpHI_j8-zHNTiww7XDLwZ3pq-m&s (A photo of Sharon Hensley.) She graduated in 1966, and attended Bismarck Junior College, where she took classes in dance and acting, performing in a play with her older brother, Frank.
In 1967, aged 19, Sharon discovered she was pregnant. Wanting to escape her hometown, she followed her brother Frank and other classmates to San Francisco. After arriving, she stayed in a home for single mothers, where she gave birth to a girl she named “Cherry” after the popular Neil Diamond song. She told friends she wanted to keep the child but was unable to. Two years after leaving for California, Sharon was in jail and her mother, Peggy, headed there with a $5,000 cashier’s check to bail her out. When she returned, Sharon wasn’t with her.
“She said she had lost her daughter,” her younger brother Brian would later say. “She cried almost every night. She was never the same after that.”
MEETING VAIL While house-sitting in a high-rise apartment, Vail would meet his future girlfriend, Sharon. She was 20, and attractive, having even modeled in her teens. They became friends, and then started a relationship despite the 10-year age gap.
While hitchhiking across California, Vail would confess to Hensley that he had killed Mary, something his son Bill overheard. Because of this, Bill would later go to the police to report his own father for murder. The police at first didn’t believe Bill, but after camping out on the front steps, one detective listened. He told the detective that he was hungry, tired of using the drugs his father gave him, that he wanted to go back to school, live like other kids, and that he had overheard his father admit to killing his mother.
At a beach along the Merced River, police found his father and Hensley, carrying a bag of LSD capsules. Police charged the couple with LSD possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Vail received a six-month jail sentence, plus three years’ probation, after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of LSD possession.
California police shared their information with Louisiana authorities. Once again, the district attorney in Lake Charles once again passed on prosecuting Vail for murder. Another fatal mistake.
Bill returned to Mississippi to live with his grandparents, who then gained full custody. On January 23rd, 1971, Vail and Sharon showed up in the driveway. Bill thought Vail was there to kill him, and his grandmother had to reassure him that he was safe.
The father and son eventually sat down and had a talk. Vail told Bill that he didn’t blame him for the time he spent in prison, but instead blamed Sharon, which the young boy found strange because “she had nothing to do with it.”
The family wondered how the couple could even legally be in Mississippi if they were supposed to be on probation in California. They couldn’t. After a visit from the Sheriff, the 2 were smuggled out of town and given enough money to get back to the West Coast.
In the Summer of 1972, the couple appeared unannounced at Sharon’s childhood home in Bismarck. The more the family saw of the couple, the more horrified they became. Sharon wore a mini skirt with no panties and had armpit hair and leg hair "like a man." She had been losing weight and losing clumps of hair.
Her younger brother Brian said it felt like his sister had been brainwashed. If someone asked her a question, “either Felix would answer the question for her, or she would look at Felix while she was giving the answer.”
The couple left then North Dakota and traveled to Mississippi, where they stayed with Vail’s family. On the dairy farm the family owned, they helped paint the home. The couple also sunbathed in the nude, drawing the ire of neighbors.
Peggy Hensley received a telephone call from Sharon, who said she and Vail were heading to New Orleans and then to Miami to make pornographic films. She believed it was a cry for help as “what daughter tells her mother she’s going to do a porno?” Sharon’s parents wanted to travel down to get their daughter back but couldn’t.
(The 2 did end up shooting pornographic scenes together, but I won’t get into any of that.) In early 1973, Sharon called and talked of traveling to South America with Vail, where they would eat natural foods and write a book. It was the last conversation the family would ever have with her. Soon after, she would send her final letter. It contained a photo of her holding a pen, captioned “making travel notes.” It was the last picture ever taken of Sharon Hensley.
https://www.clarionledger.com/gcdn/-mm-/94195697544ea2e63b0b95e33a6de88a8b4f1e2b/c=0-50-399-276/local/-/media/2016/12/28/JacksonMS/JacksonMS/636185487179588030-Sharon-Hensley.jpg?width=399&height=226&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp (The last photo ever taken of Sharon.) THE DISAPPEARANCE In March of 1974, Peggy received a letter from Vail, claiming he was in West Florida. He wrote that he last saw Sharon about a year before in Key West, with an Australian couple that was traveling around the world. All he recalled was the first names of the couple (John and Vanessa), who were talking with Sharon about “island hopping around South America, the West Indies, --- Hawaii for a while, maybe a couple of years in the Philippines, then India, Egypt and the Mediterranean islands and coasts. I don’t know which of these (if any) they decided on or in what order.” Peggy didn't believe a word of it.
In the fall of 1975, Vail’s mother wrote to the Hensley family, saying that her son was surprised the family hadn’t heard from Sharon during that time. Interestingly, Vail told his mother the names of the couple that Sharon left with were Frank and Sally, different names than he had given a year earlier. Vail explained to his mother that before Sharon left, she had burned all her identification cards, got new IDs, and declared that she would become a completely different person.
Bill recalled his father mentioning Sharon. “He said she would never bother anyone ever again.” The words upset Bill, who believed his father had just confessed to another murder. “There was not a soul I could tell about it because I had had my experience in court when I was 8, no one would believe me. It would be my word against his, and no one would believe a 13-year-old.”
SHARON CAMPBELL: I want to talk about this relationship because of the egregious age difference. For reference, Campbell is only 4 years older than Vail’s son. While riding a bus to north Mississippi in 1975, Vail sat next to 17-year-old Sharon Campbell. Despite being literally twice her age, he commented on how fit she looked, saying "he needed someone like her to keep him fit." In spite of this, she felt flattered and shared her telephone number with him. Not long after she got home, Vail appeared in a yellow Volkswagen bug.
Vail said he wanted Campbell to travel with him, and she told him the only way her parents would allow it was if they got married.
On July 24, 1975, they did, honeymooning in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
In court years later, she would tell prosecutors that they never consummated the marriage because “he was unable to obtain an erection.”
(This isn’t relevant, I just wanted to include it out of spite because fuck this guy.) Several weeks later, she went with Vail to visit his relatives in Louisiana. There, she said a niece told her, “You probably need to know that he killed his first wife --- they arrested him. We all believed that he did it, he drowned her out of a boat.”
Campbell didn't believe them, telling herself that he would be in prison if he was a murderer. But as the months passed by, she concluded that he “had no value in the female gender,” and that “he hated women.”
She later traveled with Vail to his parents’ home in Montpelier. While there, he was outdoors working on the Volkswagen and Campbell walked closer without him noticing. He opened a compartment, and she said she saw “sinister, surgical looking saws of all shapes and sizes in a neat formation.” To her, the sight screamed evil. “It scared me. I said, ‘I’m not going anywhere with you.’” She left, annulled the marriage, and never looked back. It was likely the best decision she ever made.
After the divorce he would marry a woman named Carolyn in 1977. The relationship would end after he cheated on her with a woman named Alexandra Christianson during a double date. When Carolyn called Vail’s mother and asked her if the behavior surprised her, she simply replied “no.”
After being served the divorce papers, Vail smashed his car into her MGB Sports Car. A month later he would call her saying “I love you.” She did not reciprocate. She would later describe Vail as “mentally deranged.”
ALEXANDRA CHRISTIANSON: Alexandra is the woman Vail cheated on Carolyn with. She eventually got married to him in Mexico after he officially divorced Carolyn. Not long after their marriage, she heard that Vail was cheating on her.
After a motorcycle accident, he came to rest up at her condo in Costa Mesa, where she confronted him about the cheating. He reportedly got agitated and said, “you know my first wife died.” When she replied saying he’d told her she drowned, Vail shot back “I could have saved her, but I chose not to.”
After telling him to leave, she went to have a shower. While in the shower, Vail attacked her, wrapping his hands around her neck. Hearing her screams, Alexandra’s young brother came in, grabbing Vail and forcing him to the ground. Vail then left.
Soon after this, she found out she was pregnant. The child was still-born, and Alexandra was heart-broken. She would later lead important investigators to witnesses that were used in Vail's eventual trial.
In part 2, I will cover Vail's final victim Annette Craver, and the lengths her mother went to to finally secure justice.

2023.06.08 00:20 Zoomer_Boomer2003 Message from Sullivan
West Ham United Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: “I could not be more proud of this magnificent football club. Proud of how far we have come over the last decade. Proud of the manager, the backroom team, and all the staff, who have done a fantastic job. And proud of all the players, from our amazing home-grown talent, to our brilliant international stars, who have given us a night and a triumph that will live forever.
“But most of all, I want to pay tribute to the Hammers fans, the Claret & Blue Army, who have once again shown they are the best in the world. They have been incredible this season. Packing out the London Stadium match after match, creating an atmosphere home and away that is second to none, and showing teams all over Europe how massive this Club is.
“When we moved to the new ground, we dreamed of moments like this. Our task now is to build on this triumph, and the double-winning feats of our Under-18 Academy team, ensuring that every time our men and women start a new season in West Ham United colours, they are competing for more success.
“But for now, it is time to celebrate. It will be fantastic to see Hammers fans from across London fill the streets to welcome our heroes back from Prague, and all our supporters over land and sea join the party on our Club channels. This trophy belongs to you, and it will be fantastic to all share in the moment.
“Sadly of course, there is one man who will not be there, someone who did so much to help deliver this success to our Club, and – in all the joy and excitement of the victory – the one thing I missed was being able to turn to him, see his smile, and shake his hand. But I know how proud he would have been too. This is for you, DG – our dreams beginning to come true.”

Wally West woke to the first light of dawn seeping into his room at Iris's house, his bleary eyes slowly adjusting to the morning light. His room was a testament to the duality of his life: one of an ordinary teenager and the other of Kid Flash, the city's young speedster. A collection of running shoes, sole worn and treads erased, lay scattered in one corner - the Speed Force may have protected him while running, but he had nonetheless developed a nasty habit of being heavy-footed in his civilian life. His desk was buried beneath a chaotic pile of textbooks and notebooks, holding unfinished homework assignments that he could complete in the blink of an eye but always managed to put off.
Wally was never one for routine, finding comfort in the spontaneous and unpredictable. He thrived in the clutter, a trait that had only been amplified since he'd taken up the mantle of Kid Flash. His mornings were never the same, each one different from the last. Today was no different.
His morning haze was ended by a sudden knock at the front door, one he swore he recognised. Wally quickly pulled on a baseball tee and some cargo pants and rushed down the stairs. His aunt Iris had likely already begun her day, leaving Wally to face the unannounced guests himself. As he swung the door open, a blend of strained smiles and apprehension greeted him—the faces of Mary and Rudy West, his parents. Wally felt a surge of mixed emotions. They had allowed him to leave their family home in Blue Valley, Nebraska and move to Central City at the Flash’s insistence that he be closer to the experts who would put right the seizures brought on by his unstable connection to the Speed Force, and not having seen them for quite some time he supposed he should have been happy to be greeted by them now. The truth was that - though he had never told anyone this - his destructive powers were the perfect excuse to leave an already fraught home environment.
Wally braced himself for the obligatory exchange of pleasantries. "Morning," he mumbled, his voice bereft of warmth.
"Wally, it’s so good to see you!" Mary's voice wavered between forced cheerfulness and anxiety. "We thought we'd come by to see how you're doing."
"Shouldn't you be getting ready for school, son?" Rudy asked, his gaze lingering on Wally's dishevelled appearance.
Wally bit back a sharp retort, grinding his teeth in frustration. Their attempt at casual conversation felt like a charade to him, a superficial overlay on a deep-seated problem. "Yeah, I should," he said tersely, the bitterness in his voice seeping through.
Feeling suffocated by their presence, Wally seized the opportunity to escape. "I'm late for school," he declared abruptly, sidestepping his parents and heading towards the door.
"But we just got here," Rudy protested, his brows furrowed in confusion. “We came all this way.”
"I really can't be late again," Wally called out, his voice fading as he harnessed his super-speed, his figure blurring into a streak of vibrant colours. The door slammed shut behind him, leaving his parents in the wake of his rapid departure.
🔻🔺 ⚡ 🔺🔻
Wally West found himself ensnared in his own turbulent thoughts rather than his English teacher’s recanting of the complexities of Fahrenheit 451. His heart was wreathed in grief over Max's death, a persistent ache that was compounded by the alienation he felt since moving from Nebraska to Central City. His social life was a drab canvas filled with faceless classmates, void of any meaningful friendships.
His sole source of belonging lay outside the school walls, within the bright streaks of yellow and red of his Kid Flash costume. As the trusted ally of the Scarlet Speedster, Wally felt an unshakeable sense of purpose and identity. But now even his life as Kid Flash was mired in uncertainty.
Wally had always idolised the Flash, back before he knew that multiple people had captured his imagination. Now Max was dead, and Barry was changed by it and other recent tragedies. There was a strained tension in his voice, a distracted focus in his eyes that Wally couldn't ignore. He'd seen him grief-stricken over Daniel’s death, and over losing Patty, but this was different.
Then there was Wally’s destabilising connection to the Speed Force. What initially seemed like an exhilarating unpredictability had turned into a haunting uncertainty. Any time he would use his powers, it was up to chance whether today he would be running a bit faster than before, or if his entire body would be paralysed and wrought by the lightning built up inside of him. It was a heavy burden for a teenager - even one in his senior year. Yet, he understood that he was of no use to Central City or his mentor if he couldn't rely on his speed.
The shrill ring of the bell signalling the end of the fifth period mercifully severed Wally's chain of thoughts. The day was too bright, the hallway noises too loud, everything a grating reminder of how much he'd rather be anywhere else but school. When his cell phone buzzed in his backpack, Wally made a beeline to the restroom to check his messages, discovering an alert from the Flash.
‘William and I are tied up with something; need you to deal with a new meta at the Civic Center.’
Wally's heart pounded with a heady mix of adrenaline and anticipation. His personal struggles faded into the background as he promptly excused himself from school, evading the notice of his teachers.
Within moments, Kid Flash skidded to a halt at the Central City Civic Center. A charity fair, attended by the city's elite, including Mayor Derek Fox and his family, had been engulfed in chaos. The cheerfulness of the fair was being choked by a dense, swirling maelstrom of noxious smoke, replacing laughter with terrified screams. A new villain had made their sinister debut.
"Well, a smoky surprise party was not what I had in mind," Kid Flash quipped, attempting to alleviate the tension rippling through the crowd. Drawing a deep breath, he felt the comforting surge of lightning as he manipulated time, slowing it down enough to peer through the swirling particles of soot. Scanning the area, he caught glimpses of numerous civilians and Mayor Fox's family but found no trace of the metahuman.
Releasing time back to its normal flow, Wally felt a peculiar satisfaction in successfully employing an ‘advanced speedster technique’. Moving closer to the billowing smoke, his voice cut through the clamour. "Everyone! Kid Flash is here! Follow the sound of my voice!"
Sure enough, figures began emerging from the fog, running past him, all except the mayor. When Ashley Fox, a woman around Barry's age, ran up to him with panic etched on her face, Wally knew this wouldn't be an easy task. "That thing has my dad!" cried Ashley. "You have to help him!"
“I will,” nodded Kid Flash dutifully. He took a deep breath of clean air and then ventured into the smog.
Strangely enough, as he pushed through the initial threshold of the smokescreen, Wally's vision remained less impaired than expected. Though he strained to see through the veil of grey, he managed to discern a dome of smoke enclosing the centre of the square, including his own path. From several points along the wall of the smoke dome, chains or ropes of condensed soot extended downward, converging at the centre where the elderly Mayor Fox was ensnared and gagged by the solidified smoke.
A deep, echoing laugh resonated from somewhere within the smoke, sending a chill down Wally’s spine.
"Looks like you've stumbled into the lion's den, kid," a voice echoed around him.
"So, you're the one behind this, huh?" Wally shouted back, attempting to pinpoint the origin of the voice.
"You think you can stop me, Kid Flash?" The voice bellowed from within its swirling smoky shroud, a menacing spectre harbouring a grudge.
Wally remained silent, his eyes locked on the mayor. The smoke was thick and toxic, choking the air around Mayor Fox, who coughed and spluttered. He knew he could get Fox out of there in a fraction of a second with his speed, but Smokescreen's smoke was thick, choking. If he made a wrong move at super speed, the sudden vacuum could cause the smoke to rush into Fox's lungs. A slow, suffocating death.
Suddenly, a familiar prickling sensation crawled up the base of Wally's skull. It gradually evolved into a dull ache, signaling the imminent threat of a Speed Force seizure. Gritting his teeth, he concentrated on the task at hand.
"Why are you doing this?" he called out. "You could have targeted everyone, but you specifically went after the mayor. And if it's about him, why do it in public, where a Flash won’t be far away?"
“This isn’t about the mayor,” rumbled the voice of the unknown villain. Smokescreen, Wally decided to call him. His smoke tendrils curled tighter around Fox. "This is about making them know what it feels like to be scared, powerless."
"You can't possibly mean that," Wally cried, searching for any thread to latch onto, any shred of reason that could persuade the villain to reconsider. "I thought this event was for charity!"
“Sure, except it's all really for the benefit of these rich guys’ public image.”
Smokescreen's bitter words drifted through the air, his motivations becoming clearer, personal. It did nothing to justify his actions though. Whatever his grievances were, terrorising the public wasn't the answer.
Wally knew what he had to do, but the threat of a seizure loomed, ready to thwart his plans. Taking a deep breath and crossing his fingers, knowing he only had one chance at this, Wally sprinted forward, running a tight circuit around the ensnared mayor. Swiftly, winds began to whip as an air vortex formed, perfectly suited to draw the metahuman's smoke away. Time seemed to stretch into infinity, and in the singular moment Wally found himself in, his dread intensified. This was it, a seizure about to begin. His breath hitched, he didn't have time for this, not now. The smoke was thickening around him, the cries getting louder. He couldn't fail now, not with so much at stake.
Every instinct urged him to halt, but he pressed on, aware that the vortex's force could draw in more smoke. Ignoring his doubts, he clenched his fists, bracing himself for the impending pain, determined to fight it off. As time resumed and the race resumed with it, Wally didn't retreat but dove headfirst into the storm. Battling against the seizure, each passing moment amplified the agony, blurring his vision.
And then, something remarkable happened. Instead of succumbing to the seizure, he pushed past it, triggering a surge of Speed Force energy that supercharged his abilities. The golden lightning in his wake transformed into a dazzling white, propelling him to speeds he had never reached before. The vortex intensified, drawing in the smoky tendrils and hurling them high into the sky, dispersing them in the process.
The shroud lifted, and Wally turned in motion, finally catching sight of the metahuman attacker - a short, middle-aged man now cowering, knocked to the ground alongside the mayor by the intense wind tunnel conjured by Kid Flash.
Desperate, the man clenched his fists and commanded a torrent of smoke that seemed to burst from behind him, swelling as it raised upwards. Whether it was to attack him, or to hurt the mayor, Wally didn’t care. Moving at unprecedented speed, Wally reached Mayor Fox before the metahuman could even choose a target. Wally swiftly covered the mayor's mouth and nose with his hand, shielding him from the noxious fumes in case his speed faltered. In an instant, he darted back to the edge of the Civic Center square.
Screeching to a halt, Kid Flash emerged from super speed. The white lightning still engulfed his frame, and though he couldn't see it, his eyes burned with intense white light. Carefully, he laid the mayor down at his daughter's feet.
“Thank you!” Ashley Fox cried as she tended to her father.
Applause erupted from the crowd, cheers filling the air as Wally dashed back to apprehend the now feeble-looking Smokescreen, still reeling from the sudden dissipation of his smoky shroud. Wally's punch sent him sprawling, neutralising the threat and ensuring the mayor's safety.
Amidst the persisting cheers, the pain from the seizure gradually ebbed away, taking with it his heightened power. Wally felt like a deflating balloon, the excess energy and power seeping out like escaping helium. His heightened senses recalibrated, and the world resumed its normal speed and rhythm.
A lingering echo of the seizure, akin to the aftertaste of a potent drink, left him shivering. The hyper-awareness of his body and surroundings felt almost invasive after the distant, godlike power he had just experienced. His body, no longer buzzing with extra energy, felt heavy, as if he had been filled with lead. Each beat of his heart resounded loudly in his ears, his lungs aching from the exertion, and sweat trickling down his back, sticking his yellow suit to his skin.
The world around him, which had felt so distant, so removed, was abruptly vivid and pressing. The muffled sounds of the crowd became a cacophony of relieved murmurs and melodic jubilations. The smell of popcorn and cotton candy, once distant and faint, was now potent, mingling with the tangy scent of smoke and adrenaline in the air. He could feel every grain of dust and debris under his feet, the grit pressing into his skin through the fabric of his boots.
He felt drained and yet somehow more alive than ever, every sense heightened in the wake of the energy rush. And beneath it all, he carried a sense of satisfaction, knowing that despite the challenges posed by his unstable Speed Force connection, it had proven to be a formidable asset. Mayor Fox was safe, and the smoke villain had been defeated. As Kid Flash, Wally had conquered his personal obstacles and emerged victorious.
Yet, as Wally West, he continued to run a race against grief, responsibility, and his own fears—a race with no discernible finish line. His only choice was to keep running, hoping to push through every wall in his path. And on this day, running felt nothing short of fantastic.
🔻🔺 ⚡ 🔺🔻
The smell of brewing coffee enveloped Wally as he pushed open the door to Jitters, a comforting counterpoint to the chaos that typically defined his world. Amidst the hum of murmured conversation and clattering cups, the speedster found a slow-paced sanctuary, an oddly soothing anchor in a life measured in Mach speeds.
The barista behind the counter was a fresh face amid the familiar, a girl around Wally’s age with wavy hair pulled back into a messy ponytail, her name tag identifying her as ‘Rosie’. He had caught her in the midst of latte artistry, hands steady as she crafted a foam rosetta, her tongue peeking out at the corner of her mouth in concentrated effort.
"New here?" Wally asked, not really expecting anything. Friends were not something he had come to anticipate in this city. He was more comfortable confronting supervillains than making small talk, which was likely why Wally West remained mostly a stranger to everyone at his school.
Rosie's gaze shifted, disrupting the intricate art on her latte canvas. "Started this week," she responded, affixing a lid to the slightly marred latte before sending it down the counter. There was a flicker of disappointment in her eyes, quickly replaced by humour. "What about you? A regular?"
"Trying to be," Wally confessed, a smirk playing on his lips at the absurdity of it. "People rush in for caffeine, I’m here to catch my breath."
Rosie chuckled, her eyes gleaming with an unexpected understanding. "Quite the paradox."
A familiar cover caught his eye - a copy of the graphic novel 'Astra Nebula' nestled by the register. "You're into 'Astra Nebula'? Kind of avant-garde, isn’t it?"
Her eyes lit up with passion as she set aside her work. "I love it! How they weave so much real world commentary into these strange planets and their stories is… well, I don’t know how they do it. Wait till you get to Volume Three."
Wally blinked. His perception of 'Astra Nebula' was far less complex, focused on the high-octane action, and not on the layers of social commentary. "Yeah, the subtext is… pretty loaded," he offered, hoping his words rang true.
A knowing grin spread across Rosie's face as she let out a soft laugh. "You're in it for the space battles, aren't you?"
Wally blushed, his laughter joining hers. "You got me."
A fleeting connection, punctuated by shared laughter, hung between them, bridging the gap of unfamiliarity.
Just as the moment was beginning to stretch, a voice called out, signalling the end of Rosie's shift. "I need to get going," she said. "Someone else will take care of your order."
“I didn’t even order yet,” Wally replied with a smirk, realising the absent-mindedness that had led their conversation.
“Oh, right,” Rosie laughed, her eyes wide. “Stacy’s better at the latte art anyway.”
“Guess everyone needs a mentor,” Wally suggested, keeping the atmosphere light.
“Yeah, I suppose so,” Rosie agreed, moving to untie her apron. “See you around…”
“Wally,” he filled in.
"Tomorrow, Wally?" There was a hopefulness in her voice, a hint of a budding friendship that seemed more attainable than he'd dared to hope.
He offered a nod, warmth blooming in his chest. "Yeah, see you, Rosie."
As he placed his usual order with Stacy, Wally found himself wearing an unexpected smile. Stepping out of Jitters, he couldn't help but feel the seeds of anticipation sown. Maybe Central City had something more to offer for Wally West as well as for Kid Flash. He dared to hope.

Web3 introduces a paradigm where individuals can directly connect and transact with each other, eliminating the need for intermediaries. This shift towards decentralization unlocks a myriad of opportunities, fostering trust, enhancing security, and putting users back in control of their online experiences.
At the heart of Web3 lies blockchain technology, a distributed ledger that ensures transparency, immutability, and consensus. By leveraging blockchain, Web3 enables the creation of decentralized applications (dApps) that operate on the principles of openness and inclusivity. These dApps are powered by smart contracts, self-executing agreements that automate processes, and ensure trust among participants.
Web3 extends beyond mere technological advancements; it carries the potential to reshape entire industries and democratize access to opportunities. From finance to gaming, supply chain management to social media, Web3 is poised to disrupt traditional models, offering new economic models, increased privacy, and data ownership to users.
In this article, we will delve deeper into the intricacies of Web3, exploring its foundations in blockchain technology, the contrast it presents with the current Web2 model, real-world applications, and the employment opportunities it offers. We will also navigate the challenges and limitations that accompany this burgeoning field and speculate on the future possibilities that await us in the Web3 landscape.
So, fasten your seatbelts and get ready to embark on an exciting journey into the realm of Web3, where decentralization and empowerment converge to shape a more transparent, equitable, and user-centric internet experience.
The Foundation of Web3: Blockchain Technology
At the core of Web3 lies the powerful foundation of blockchain technology. Blockchain serves as the underlying infrastructure that enables the decentralized nature of Web3 applications. Understanding the fundamentals of blockchain is key to grasping the transformative potential of Web3.
Blockchain, in its essence, is a distributed ledger that records transactions across multiple computers, known as nodes. These nodes work together to maintain a synchronized and immutable record of all transactions, forming a chain of blocks. Each block contains a set of transactions, a timestamp, and a unique cryptographic hash that links it to the previous block, ensuring the integrity and security of the entire chain.
One of the key characteristics of blockchain technology is decentralization. Unlike traditional centralized systems where a single authority holds control over data and transactions, blockchain distributes the authority and decision-making power among its network participants. This decentralized structure not only enhances security but also reduces the reliance on intermediaries, fostering trust and transparency.
Another vital aspect of blockchain technology is immutability. Once a transaction is recorded on the blockchain, it becomes virtually impossible to alter or tamper with. This immutability is achieved through cryptographic hashing and consensus mechanisms, ensuring the integrity of the data and the trustworthiness of the system.
Furthermore, blockchain technology employs consensus algorithms to achieve agreement among network participants. Popular consensus mechanisms include Proof of Work (PoW) and Proof of Stake (PoS), among others. These mechanisms validate transactions and secure the network by requiring participants to solve complex mathematical puzzles or stake their cryptocurrency holdings.
Smart contracts play a pivotal role in Web3 by enabling the execution of self-enforcing agreements. Smart contracts are programmable code that runs on the blockchain and automatically executes predefined actions when certain conditions are met. These contracts eliminate the need for intermediaries and enable trustless interactions between parties.
The combination of blockchain technology and smart contracts forms the backbone of Web3, empowering individuals to engage in peer-to-peer interactions and take ownership of their digital assets. The decentralized, transparent, and secure nature of blockchain technology underpins the transformative potential of Web3 and paves the way for a more inclusive and equitable digital landscape.
In the next section, we will delve deeper into the concept of smart contracts and explore how they drive the development of decentralized applications in the Web3 ecosystem.
Smart Contracts: Empowering Decentralized Applications
Smart contracts are the building blocks of decentralized applications (dApps) within the Web3 ecosystem. These self-executing contracts, written in code, automate agreements and enable trustless interactions between parties.
Unlike traditional contracts, which require intermediaries and legal enforcement, smart contracts eliminate the need for intermediaries by executing predefined actions based on a set of predetermined conditions. These conditions are written into the code of the contract, ensuring that the terms of the agreement are automatically enforced without relying on human intervention.
Smart contracts operate on blockchain networks, such as Ethereum, which provide the necessary infrastructure to deploy and execute these contracts. They leverage the security, immutability, and consensus mechanisms of the blockchain to ensure the integrity and transparency of the contract's execution.
The potential use cases for smart contracts are vast and diverse. They can be applied to various industries, such as finance, supply chain management, real estate, gaming, and more. For example, in the financial sector, smart contracts enable the creation of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, where users can engage in lending, borrowing, and trading without relying on traditional financial intermediaries. Smart contracts ensure that transactions occur only when predefined conditions are met, enhancing security and reducing counterparty risk.
In the realm of supply chain management, smart contracts can be utilized to create transparent and auditable systems. By tracking and verifying the movement of goods and verifying the authenticity of products, smart contracts enhance trust and reduce fraud in supply chains.
Decentralized applications (dApps) are the user-facing applications that leverage smart contracts to provide enhanced functionality and user experiences. These dApps operate on the principles of openness, transparency, and decentralization, allowing users to interact directly with the underlying smart contracts and maintain ownership and control over their data and assets.
Examples of popular dApps include decentralized exchanges (DEXs) for cryptocurrency trading, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces for digital art and collectibles, decentralized social media platforms, and decentralized prediction markets. These dApps harness the power of smart contracts to create innovative and user-centric experiences that challenge the traditional centralized models.
As Web3 continues to evolve, the development and adoption of smart contracts and dApps play a crucial role in shaping a decentralized future. They empower individuals, foster trust, and revolutionize various industries by creating new economic models, enhancing security, and promoting transparency.
In the upcoming section, we will explore the fundamental differences between Web3 and the current Web2 model, highlighting the advantages that Web3 brings to the table.
Web3 vs. Web2: The Contrasting Paradigms
Web3 represents a significant departure from the prevailing Web2 model, which has dominated the internet landscape for years. By understanding the key differences between Web3 and Web2, we can better appreciate the transformative potential of Web3 and its advantages over the traditional centralized model.
Web2, or Web 2.0, refers to the current state of the internet where most online activities are centralized and controlled by a few dominant entities. In Web2, users rely heavily on intermediaries, such as social media platforms, e-commerce websites, and search engines, to access information, interact with others, and conduct transactions.
One of the fundamental differences between Web3 and Web2 is the ownership and control of data. In Web2, user data is primarily owned and controlled by the centralized platforms they interact with. This concentration of data gives rise to concerns about privacy, surveillance, and potential misuse of personal information. In contrast, Web3 empowers users by enabling them to own and control their data through decentralized protocols and technologies. Users can choose to share their data selectively and even monetize it directly, putting them in the driver's seat of their online identity.
Censorship resistance is another crucial distinction between Web3 and Web2. In Web2, intermediaries have the authority to regulate and control the content that users can access and share. This centralized control makes platforms vulnerable to censorship, content manipulation, and data breaches. In Web3, the decentralized nature of protocols and applications ensures greater resistance to censorship. Content is distributed across multiple nodes, making it difficult for any single entity to impose restrictions or manipulate information.
Web3 also addresses the issue of trust in a more robust manner compared to Web2. In Web2, users must trust intermediaries to handle their data and execute transactions fairly. However, this reliance on third parties can lead to vulnerabilities, such as data breaches, hacking incidents, or biased decision-making. Web3 leverages blockchain technology and smart contracts to establish trustless interactions. Transactions are executed based on predefined conditions and automatically enforced by the code, eliminating the need to rely on intermediaries for trust.
Moreover, Web3 introduces new economic models through the use of cryptocurrencies and tokenization. In Web2, monetization strategies often revolve around advertising and centralized revenue streams. In Web3, blockchain-based cryptocurrencies enable new economic models, such as micropayments, decentralized finance (DeFi), and tokenized ecosystems. These models empower creators, developers, and users to participate more directly in the value they contribute to the network.
By shifting the power from centralized entities to individuals, Web3 fosters a more inclusive and user-centric internet experience. It challenges the dominance of intermediaries, promotes data ownership and control, enhances censorship resistance, and introduces novel economic models. With its decentralized architecture and principles, Web3 opens up a world of possibilities for a more transparent, equitable, and empowering digital future.
In the next section, we will explore the practical applications of Web3 across different industries, showcasing how it is already reshaping various sectors.
