2023.03.22 00:59 matrichall Students Leveraging Technology to Enhance Learning
Students leveraging technology to enhance learningis ever more prevalent in today's rapidly changing world; technology has become an indispensable tool for students who want to enhance their learning experience. By leveraging technology, students can access a vast pool of information, collaborate with their peers, and learn new skills. ChatGPT is an excellent example of how technology can be used to enhance learning.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence language model developed by OpenAI, which uses a deep learning algorithm to generate human-like responses to natural language inputs. It is based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture, which allows it to understand the context and meaning of words and sentences, and generate coherent and contextually appropriate responses. ChatGPT has been trained on a massive amount of text data, including books, articles, and web pages, which allows it to answer a wide range of questions and engage in natural-sounding conversations with users.
It has many potential applications, such as virtual customer service, language translation, and educational assistance. As an educational tool, ChatGPT can help you as a student by providing you with instant access to vast amounts of information, and by engaging you in interactive and personalized learning experiences.
One of the ways you can leverage ChatGPT as a student to enhance your learning is by using it to access a vast range of study materials, research papers, and reference books. ChatGPT can quickly search through online libraries, databases, and websites to find the information that you need as a student. This is particularly useful for research projects and assignments that require you to gather information from multiple sources.
Another way you can use ChatGPT as a student to enhance your learning is by using it to practice writing skills. ChatGPT can provide you with instant feedback on your writing, highlighting areas where you need to improve your grammar, vocabulary, and syntax. This is especially helpful for you as a student if you are learning a new language or are not confident in your writing abilities.
ChatGPT can also be used as a virtual tutor, helping you the student understand complex concepts and solve problems. By inputting a question or problem into ChatGPT, students like you can receive a detailed explanation and step-by-step instructions on how to solve it. This is particularly useful for subjects such as math and science, where students may generally struggle to understand complex concepts.
Collaboration is another key aspect of learning, and ChatGPT can be used to facilitate online collaboration between students. By using ChatGPT's natural language processing capabilities, students alike can communicate with each other in real time, sharing ideas and collaborating on projects. This is particularly useful for group assignments and projects that require students to work together remotely.
We can say that ChatGPT is an excellent example of how technology can be leveraged to enhance learning. By providing you the student with access to a wealth of information, helping you to practice your writing skills, and serving as a virtual tutor, ChatGPT can help you learn more effectively and efficiently. Furthermore, by facilitating online collaboration between students, ChatGPT can help to foster a sense of community and encourage students to work together towards a common goal. As technology continues to evolve, it is essential that students embrace it and leverage it to enhance their learning experience.
The Risk of Cheating with ChatGPT: Addressing Academic Dishonesty in a Technology-Driven World While there are certainly many benefits to using ChatGPT as a tool for learning, there is also the concern that some students may use it to cheat. Because ChatGPT is so powerful and can provide students with instant access to vast amounts of information, there is a risk that students may rely on it too heavily and use it as a crutch rather than a tool for learning.
One of the main ways that students may use ChatGPT to cheat is by using it to complete assignments or exams. Instead of using their own knowledge and skills to answer questions, students may input questions or problems into ChatGPT and rely on it to provide them with the correct answer. This is clearly not a legitimate way to learn, as it does not involve any actual learning or critical thinking on the part of the student.
Another way that students may use ChatGPT to cheat is by using it to plagiarize. Because ChatGPT is so adept at understanding natural language, it is capable of generating complex and coherent sentences that could be mistaken for original work. Students could use ChatGPT to generate entire paragraphs or essays and then pass them off as their own work, without ever having to do any actual writing themselves.
However, it is important to note that the risk of cheating with ChatGPT is not unique to this tool. Students have always found ways to cheat, and there will always be new tools and technologies that they can use to do so. The real issue here is not ChatGPT itself, but rather the culture of academic dishonesty found in some schools and universities.
To address this issue, it is important for educators to emphasize the importance of integrity and honesty in academic work. They should make it clear that cheating is not acceptable and that there will be consequences for those who engage in it. They should also encourage students to use ChatGPT and other tools as a supplement to their own learning, rather than as a replacement for it. By emphasizing the importance of learning and critical thinking, educators can help to create a culture of academic honesty and integrity that will benefit all students.
While there is certainly a risk that some students may use ChatGPT to cheat, this is not an inherent problem with the tool itself. Rather, it is a reflection of a larger issue of academic dishonesty that exists in some schools and universities. By emphasizing the importance of learning and critical thinking and by making it clear that cheating is unacceptable, educators can help ensure that ChatGPT and other tools are used appropriately and ethically.
Ways Students can Leverage Technology to Aid their Learning With the rise of technology in our daily lives, it's no surprise that it has also become an essential tool for students to aid their learning. From online research and virtual study groups to interactive educational software, technology has opened up a world of opportunities for students to expand their knowledge and enhance their learning experience.
The ability to access information instantly and collaborate with peers from around the world has revolutionized the way students learn and prepare for their future careers. However, it is important for students to use technology effectively and responsibly in order to reap the full benefits. In this blog post, we will explore the ways in which students can leverage technology to aid their learning, and how they can maximize its potential to improve their academic performance and achieve their goals.
Online courses: Students can enroll in online courses to supplement their regular coursework or to learn new skills. Online courses provide flexibility and allow students to learn at their own pace.
Educational Apps: There are numerous educational apps available that can help students learn new concepts and skills. For example, Duolingo is a language-learning app that uses gamification to make learning fun and engaging.
E-Books and Online Libraries: Students can access e-books and online libraries to access a vast range of study materials, research papers, textbooks, and reference books. This is particularly useful for research projects and assignments.
Virtual and Augmented Reality: Virtual and augmented reality technologies provide students with immersive experiences that can help them understand complex concepts. For example, a virtual tour of a historical site can help students visualize and understand events that occurred in the past.
Online Collaboration Tools: Students can use online collaboration tools to work on group projects, share documents, and collaborate with their peers in real time. For example, Google Docs is a popular tool that allows students to work together on a single document. Overall, technology provides students with access to a wealth of resources and tools that can help them learn more effectively and efficiently.

2023.03.21 17:39 I-Passed6789 I got to know my lecturer is having an affair with one of my classmates. I can't get that out of my mind.
I am a college student. Few days ago, I went on a trip with my classmates. It was kind of like a "study tour" organized by our department. Even some of our teachers went. We stayed there for like 2 nights. There was this girl named "Shelly" who was known as the obnoxious bitch in our group. As I was returning, there was a rumor that Shelly slept with one of our teachers on the trip. I know that teacher. He used to teach us database and algorithm. I never expected him to be so sleezy and a pervert. He was the type of guy who would show off his wife to others. I mean yikes. Now can never look at him the same way. They have a daughter. I feel bad for the wife. She and I never talked but I don't think someone like her deserves it. I know some of my friends who has met the wife and my teacher has invited them in their house. They all had only great things to say about her. Every time I would see him, I would only see him fucking one of my classmates. Btw, some one actually made a video of them having sex. It is not leaked yet. But I am not sure how long it will take. I know I shouldn't say anything. "Not my circus, not my monkey". But as someone who has been cheated on in the past, it is eating me. I wish someone told me my bf was cheating so that I wouldn't waste 3 years on them. I just need help. I just want to stop thinking about it.

2023.03.21 15:03 fanny_smasher Windows 11 star citizen fresh install tips
After some screwing around managed to get star citizen installed from scratch on windows 11 with nvme hard drive. This was the error I was getting in logs (%appdata%\rsilauncher\log.log):
{ "t":"2023-03-21 21:32:12.507", "[browser][info] ": "************************EAC DIRECTORY SUCCESSFULLY DELETED" }, { "t":"2023-03-21 21:32:12.528", "[browser][info] ": "Error installing at C:\\Robert Space Industries\\StarCitizen\\LIVE: Error" }, { "t":"2023-03-21 21:32:12.537", "[browser][info] ": { "event": "[email protected]_FAILED", "data": { "error": { "name": "InstallerError", "message": "" } } } },
These logs don't tell us anything but hopefully the following steps can help you as well.
Step 1: log in as admin user Seems to be some weird issues with uac so easiest thing to do to avoid this is login to an admin user account.
Step 2: force disk sector size to 4k Windows 11 increases the default max sector size from 4k to 16k which has caused issues with some apps including SQL server (
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/sql/database-engine/database-file-operations/troubleshoot-os-4kb-disk-sector-size).
Run the following command in cmd with admin privileges followed by restarting your computer:
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\stornvme\Parameters\Device" /v "ForcedPhysicalSectorSizeInBytes" /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d "* 4095" /f
To check the command run correctly you can run a query to see that the value is set to 4095:
REG QUERY "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\stornvme\Parameters\Device" /v "ForcedPhysicalSectorSizeInBytes"
Don't forget to restart your computer!
Step 3: re-install the launcher in root directory (c:) If you have already installed the launcher, remove it via windows add/remove (also delete the %appdata%\rsilauncher directory). Next, create a directory in c: or whatever your hard drive name is, in my case I created c:\Robert Space Industries. Install the launcher at the directory you just created.
Step 4: change the install directory Start the launcher and click on SETTINGS, scroll down to Library Folder and change the directory to the directory created in step 3 (eg. c:\Robert Space Industries).
Step 5: start a VPN I have no idea why this helps, but after the base package is downloaded the installer must try to query hashes to verify the integrity of the downloaded file. For some reason the queries will not work unless you are running in a VPN. As I have said, I have no idea how this helps but it did help for me. I installed nord vpn (
https://nordvpn.com/) and they have free trials so don't worry about having to pay anything.
Start the VPN and click on INSTALL GAME from the launcher and it should suddenly start working.
After the base package has been installed and the updates start coming through, you will no longer need the VPN.
Step 6: enjoy! Actually you might get one more error about EasyAntiCheat not being installed, but this can be fixed from the launcher by going to SETTINGS and clicking VERIFY next to the Analyze game files label. After that the game should start.
You no longer need to use an admin account and any user account should start the game.
Also, you can cleanup the registry key added as it seemed to be only needed to verify the downloaded files:
REG DELETE "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\stornvme\Parameters\Device" /v "ForcedPhysicalSectorSizeInBytes" /f
Lastly, you no longer need the VPN but doesn't hurt to have some privacy online.
Ok, hope this helps someone!

2023.03.21 09:42 madroots2 I am not good enough. What do I do?
Hello there. Sorry, this is quite long but I am lost. Need help.
I had a job where I had everything under control. the only one who was able to manage customer servers and I had it all going well, with monitoring and everything so I was not very busy, since I automated everything and basically, I was testing my new skills right there, improving stuff as I learned (I dockerized most of the stuff once I get familiar with docker, I setup reverse proxies to manage certs where we did all of that manually etc) - not a difficult stuff. I enjoyed that I could do all this at my own time, since nobody else understood stuff I did there. Of course, I had other responsibilities, such as install our software on customer's PCs when we had a project going on, helping customers with our products from time to time, but I was pretty much a free man, working from home when I needed to/wanted to, have a 2 hours lunch, go home early when needed, whatever. As long as the services were running, I was fine. After 2 years there, I also had a solid paycheck. Nothing you would get rich from, but still nice.
Then I applied for a job - it was more like "oh, this looks kinda nice, I will apply with my 2 years old CV just for fun" and they invited me for an interview! I was shocked. I actually forgot to attach my 2 years old CV the 1st time! they then asked for it, and once I provided, they called me in. I could not believe honestly. Well, it was a good company, with solid foundation. Very professional environment, unlike where I was then. They offered lower salary, but I felt like I was getting lazier and lazier in current job, where not much was required of me. They were very excited that I know docker, I have experience with proxies, nginx, cdn's, am experienced with Linux and know mysql and other things, and they very much wanted me.
I then accepted the job offer, however my boss didnt have anyone who could replace me. They very much wanted me to stay and It was very difficult decision - I changed my mind multiple times and said NO to the new offer, but they always called and said sweet things like I am very much needed there, They liked my honesty, they liked me and believed that I would fit there and they look for someone just like me etc etc. and I just could not say no. They waited 4 months for me, until my previous company find someone to replace me (they didnt lol)
Now I am in the new job and.. I feel like they cheated me. I feel like they were looking for someone cheap, (why would I accept less money? I think because it was more like investment, to be with better company and have a better CV at the end? I think so) and they found me who had at least some dev ops understanding.
They are much higher level than me regarding any activity they do - I know how to run docker images and google around and run a lamp stack on it, database on it, but they write 500 line Dockerfiles which takes 4 hours to build! They run huge docker swarms, it seems everyone here know programming and devops. They have a 30 different services running which I never heard of and I was asked to migrate production to their own cloud which I am supposed to setup, including networking and all stuff..
When they asked if I know networking, I said I have experience, I made some networks in my life right? some virtual lans, forwarded some ports right? They always kept telling me how honest and humble I am. But I think I really am not as good as they thought of me. and I never lied about my experience!, only they always interpreted it like I am being humble.
Honestly, I dont know how to make a cloud and how to assign publick IP address to a virtual pfsense and make a routing and separate logically those 30 services into subnets, figure out which ones cannot see each other and which ones must. and certainly, I dont know how to migrate rails apps, with milions of databases, custom side apps and all that. They gave me access to a portainer and told me to study how their stuff works out of the docker stack configs. I honesly cannot even read that stuff, and I didnt lie about my docker experience but I have never seen such huge docker builds, swarms and this advanced stuff around it.
Anyway, there is no homeoffice which they promised, I need to track everything I do and always tell what I have accomplished at the end of the day (guess what - mostly nothing) I have less money, and must travel 1,5 hours daily, spending extra on gas, (previous work was basically 2 minutes walking) and go to work stressed out since the high requirements of me which I cannot deliver. There is no parking spot for me and its very hard to park in a city center. I overal regret what I did.
On the other hand, this is real deal - this is how devops works and I have a chance to learn from the pros, eventually become one. But its going to be extremely hard journey and my goal is to be with my family and provide for them. Now I feel like I have much less time, much less money, much more stress and I dont know what to do. Should I stay or look for something else? or go back to my previous work? They would take me back I believe.
What do I do? I am working in the new job 1 month now.

2023.03.20 17:00 AutoModerator ★OFFICIAL WEEKLY★ Day 1 Monday: Start here! March 20, 2023
Is today is your Day 1?
Welcome to Loseit!
So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question.
Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.
Why You’re Overweight
Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.
Before You Start
The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that
HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.
Tracking
Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer.
loseit recommends (unaffiliated) apps like
MyFitnessPal,
Loseit or
Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a
digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why?
This may explain it. Creating Your Deficit
How do you create a deficit? This is up to you.
loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.
The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.
Exercise
...is
NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.
It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.
Crawl, Walk, Run
It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.
Acceptance
You will
struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.
Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.
Additional resources
Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

2023.03.20 13:43 1811CrossPoster2 IRS-CI Breakdown of the Training Process
tesoreria80121 Howdy folks, here's another post sharing my perspective as an IRS-CI 1811 (Disclaimer: this is made during off-duty hours and is not an official communication). In this episode, I am going to talk about what I experienced during the training process. Training does not end upon graduation from FLETC when you get your badge and gun. In fact, that is when the *real* training begins. I was told by someone with IRS-CI at FLETC that it takes 7 years to settle in on this job and truly know what you are doing, that is a loooooong learning curve. But, in my experience, I've found that statement to be accurate.
Okay, before we get started, there are a couple of acronyms you need to know: OJI: on-the-job instructor, OJT: on-the-job training, POD: post of duty, CITP: Criminal Investigator Training Program, SAIT: Special Agent Investigative Techniques, and NCTIA: National Criminal Investigation Training Academy.
--PRE-FLETC--
This is not an official portion of the OJT process. I want to mention it because many times new agents are reporting to their POD for a few weeks or months, instead of reporting directly to FLETC. This is your chance to make a good impression on your future coworkers, supervisor, and OJI. You may get a chance to participate in low-risk interviews, surveillance, go to the shooting range, serve as a role player for tactics training, or other tasks like office work.
--FLETC--
Orientation
New agents will attend a 2-3 day orientation before starting CITP. During this time you will mostly be in a classroom setting working on setting up all your IRS equipment. Expect to get a bunch of advice on how to not get sent home and fired.
CITP
This is the 10-12 week (the curriculum is always changing) basic criminal investigators' course taught by FLETC instructors. Keep your head down, take notes in class, and take it seriously. There is really no reason nearly everyone can't graduate from CITP with an academic average of 90-95% or better. It is really basic stuff. People do not typically get sent home from CITP unless they engage in misconduct away from class, cheat, fail tests, or fail required portions of the course (i.e. shooting qualification score, driving course time).
SAIT
This is IRS-CI's add-on academy. It is approximately 13-14 weeks long depending on scheduling. I have a master's degree in accounting and found it stressful academically. This is why I am highly skeptical of all the people out there posting about the Direct Hire Authority saying they did bookkeeping for their girlfriend's clothing boutique and asking if they qualify. IMO, you need formal college coursework in accounting or actual audit experience to be prepared for this. I am sure there is some super smart person who could prove me wrong, but I don't think it would be commonplace. Training here consists of shooting, tactics, physical training, simulated casework, and of course, learning a bunch of tax rules/case law/etc. The courtroom testimony portion is typically where people who are "on the radar" will get kicked out. If you are credible on the witness stand under cross-examination, you will get sent home. People who do not truly understand the concepts being taught will be easily discovered in the testimony simulation because you're singled out in front of the whole class and a cadre of instructors. They have made grown adults cry/come unglued in front of the class. I am not endorsing this approach, but my opinion doesn't matter. It's your job on the line and a lot of pressure. This may have changed, but from things I've heard lately, it is still where some people get hung up and sent home.
--OJT--
Okay, this is where the rubber starts to meet the road. To me, FLETC is just an extended trial period where you have to continuously prove and re-prove that you want the job.
Now, you're back from FLETC, you have the badge, the gun, and the take-home car. The whole testimony experience may have left a bad taste in your mouth, but you've decided to stick with IRS-CI or at least ride it out while your HSI application is pending ;-) lol. The OJT period can last 1-3 years and is essentially a list of tasks you need to complete before being signed off. The tasks include many different facets of an investigation of other duties an agent may encounter during their day-to-day, such as handling a "collateral request" from another field office, i.e. conducting a witness interview for another field office.
My advice here is simple - you'll be assigned a case out of the gate. It'll be a tax case. It may not really be something viable or something the USAO wants to prosecute. Regardless, the quicker and more efficiently you work this case, the quicker you can be off training and establish yourself as an agent with a decent reputation. That being said, you should also aggressively seek out your own leads and develop your own cases from the databases we have. This will demonstrate you're a self-starter. We have a huge amount of leads at our disposal and the vast majority aren't being worked due to manpower issues. How long OJT lasts is entirely dependent upon the agent in training, the expectations of their field office, and their OJI.
Your end goal here is to get a few completed investigations under your belt and putting yourself in a good position to get your GS-13. This could be a whole separate topic, but in my experience, GS-13 is NOT automatic. It is entirely dependent upon your field office management. Some field offices hand out GS-13s like candy. Others don't. I've known some lousy agents to get their 13 automatically and some great ones get denied their first time around. This seems to change based on individual managers, but I wish it were more standardized.
--Parting Thoughts--
FLETC is all about keeping your head down and focusing on the training. Don't be one of those people who gets drunk all the time. Don't be one of those people who cheats on your spouse all the time. Everything you do at FLETC gets reported back to your field office, behave accordingly. Don't be the guy who gets fired from training for drunk driving through the FLETC security gate.
The OJT experience is very field office dependent. I was fortunate enough to be able to work a mix of tax and money laundering/fraud investigations from the beginning. Some field offices (mostly midwest and east coast from what I've heard) force their new people to work 100% tax investigations.
Some USAOs don't want to do straight tax cases. The trick here is to find tax cases with an element of other fraud that they do want to prosecute, i.e. a tax evader who also committed COVID loan fraud. Otherwise, you will probably get stuck writing prosecution reports for straight tax cases that just get declined. I suppose that's okay if you just wanted to be an 1811 for the paycheck, but if you have a higher sense of purpose, it's a little soul-crushing.
When you are on OJT, you should aggressively find and develop your own leads. This will be a process of trial and error. Most of the leads you find will not turn into viable cases and that is okay because some of them will. Either way, you'll show your OJI and management that you're a self-starter and it'll open up more opportunities for you like task forces, details to other agencies, etc. You'll get better at finding over time and it will pay off because your supervisor will never need to worry about finding cases for you. Also, developing your own cases is a factor on which agents are evaluated.
If you want to be an IRS-CI 1811 because it is "badass" or "high speed" you're at the wrong agency. Go get on DEA SRT or FBI HRT. To be truly happy on this job, I think you need to accept what we are and what we are not. Our job is and will always be that we are financial analysts and forensic accountants.

To be truly happy on this job, I think you need to accept what we are and what we are not. Our job is and will always be that we are financial analysts and forensic accountants.

2023.03.20 07:59 Alex_Strizh You will earn millions (no)
Probably, everyone in our field of activity has encountered blacklists of agencies, models, managers, and others at least once. And maybe these characters would have passed me, and y team by, but in one week, I received three messages from different people about the same agency. And since the third call sounded in the theater, it was time to find my place and immerse myself in the show.
The story of meeting them began in the middle of autumn when a scout was processing model applications. Contact Kimberly (of course, I changed the names) was looking for a new agency that would manage her accounts and earn her money. But at the moment of the first contact, either she was promised that the rocket would soon take off and the account would break all the charts, or she simply decided to give them a chance, or they once again said that her account was a priority. But the fact is that Kim refused to cooperate with us. Until the time has passed...
Sometime in mid-December, when the scout checked old applications once again. It may seem crazy, but people sometimes change their minds or circumstances come together so that a person has the opportunity to start cooperation. And at this moment, Kimberly said that she could transfer one account to another agency that we could recommend to her. The problem is that her second account and Paxum are with some agency from Europe.
At first, we thought everything would be easy since everyone knows that honest and decent businessmen live in Europe, who prefer to solve problems in a civilized way. We have never been so wrong.
First, we took over the account and repaired the content with the help of our project manager and content manager. Jolin provided content training, and we added everything to a separate channel in Telegram for the agency. Our curator told the model about the agency's bot and how to use it for uploading content and tracking revenue statistics. Meanwhile, the model was negotiating with the agency to return the account and the Paxum account. The agreement was scheduled for the beginning of February. But if you're reading this, you understand that it just didn't end there.
A small flashback from the model's words will briefly take us back to the past. After all, you don't just leave the places where you feel good. You don't just sell a business that brings in good money or part with a good person. But the agency wasn't good either.
When the model asked to see the statistics for her account, they didn't send it to her for a long time, citing various reasons. But one day, after much persuasion and argument, they sent her something hastily drawn that looked like statistics but wasn't from her account. She pointed it out and asked for the real thing.
As it turned out, things weren't as bad as they looked in the pictures, but still, less than she would have liked. However, there was a solution that concerned her scout. The thing is, this girl was brought to the agency by @ ShiftGangst (in Telegram), who had negotiated payments of 10% of her income with the agency. Agree, a good passive income for bringing a model to the agency. But soon he would lose this, or maybe he had already lost it with his other models.
The thing is, when the model was unhappy with her earnings, the agency offered to increase them by 10% simply by not paying the scout. Very convenient, There is a mutual responsibility, and there is mutual deception, but why the model is the loser remains unclear. It's interesting how many times the agency deceived the scout like this, or maybe they both cheated on one model together?!
However, in the end, the guys agreed to part ways by mid-February. That is, to stop working on the accounts, withdraw the money, and transfer the model's share. But remember, I said that people don't sell a business without reason. So the guys didn't want to give the model the account. And when she talked about it, the guys started to delay, as usual, through humiliation and insults. This type of manipulation works well in long-term personal communication but is more difficult in messaging.
Yes, they didn't want to give anything away to have enough time to withdraw all the money from the model's page. They are guided by the principle of "Don't let anyone get it." The main task was to withdraw all the money from the account and not pay Kimberley. It's a very good option for a successful agency to make a statement about itself. In the end, they withdrew 14 out of 15 thousand before the account was recovered... Although Paksuum was eventually blocked, which is sad.
As a result, the model receives payments from another agency. Even without a working Paxum, everything was still accomplished and both accounts will earn for her, and we hope for success in this matter.
But the story with the agency doesn't end there. I mentioned three calls earlier, and; the second one came the day after Kimberly told me her story.
Like any good agency, these guys work with multiple scouts. They seem to be very eager and capable of processing a lot of traffic and making money for everyone... except for the models. Our guys met a team of scouts who offered them their services for finding models. The story will not be as long, but it will also reveal the character of the people who do not like to work honestly but are sure that it is better to negotiate on their terms or e scouts have a good database of Russian girls who are no longer allowed to work on the site. However, they know that there are ways to bypass the restrictions, which the guys are trying to use. There are no complaints against them for this, as many people use this method now. Whether or not to take such models is up to each specific agency. But the main thing is not just registration, but also the payment of some important details that are necessary for the registration, for example, on TikTok. And creating fake documents is not always a cheap pleasure.
As a result, the amount was discussed and the deal was launched... But damn, the site rejected the documents for a long time until it blocked all attempts to pass verification. And you could pour dirt on the guys for a long time, but they honestly gave almost all of their part for all the machinations. But in the end, they decided not to pay a small amount, citing the mistakes of the scouts and their vision. They agreed to make a certain number of documents but did not pay for all of them, only a part. Well, you misunderstood the agreement, you should have understood it differently and learned to read minds.
And the final part of their collaboration was a repetition of the story from the first story. For some reason, they refused to pay part of the amount for the work of the scouts and kept this money for themselves. The story turned out to be short, but I would not do business with them.
At the same time, I came across the model Julia. The girl has a very sad story that I hope will be fixed soon. Her accounts have been passed from agency to agency for a long time. But for some reason, no one could start making money for her. I won't speculate on methods or advise agencies here, as everyone works as they know how. And if they don't know how, they don't last long and become scammers... unfortunately, it's easier.
She came to me through a scout. He handed over her accounts, and her photos for consideration by agency content managers, in short, everything was with me except for information about the third call. It so happened that some time ago, Julia's accounts ended up with our main characters. Naturally, they immediately got to work and said not to worry about anything. And when there is nothing to worry about, there is no need to worry about anything. But the girl wasn't worried yet. Since the work on her accounts was going well and the first payments were supposed to be made soon because that's what the guys said until she started talking about refusing to work with them.
But what was even funnier was this. Do you know how to check an employee? Send them an archive with the password "111," but tell them that the password is "222." After a few days, ask about the progress of the work. If he says everything is fine, then you can be sure that he didn't even open your file. The same thing happened here.
The guys had access to the accounts. The agency had access to the model and content. But there was no access to common sense. The manager said everything would be soon, and that the work was boiling, but as usual, he couldn't answer anything normal when the model asked for statistics. You see, a person who can provide statistics cannot do it this week. Well, yeah, you can't just log into the account and take a screenshot.
It's good that they have a good employee. It was great to hear and read this when you know that they don't have access to the account. And when it was pointed out to them, guess what happened:
A) Admitted that they didn't work B) Started humiliating C) Accused D) Politely asked for a chance
This is not a show, so there are two correct answers, not one. Although two and a half. At first, the second and third, and then in the same tone, they began to speak so that she would stay. It looks funny from the outside if it weren't so sad.
Today she started working at another agency, and I hope that everything will work out well for her.
In the end, I described the story not of just one agency, but of dozens like it. I'm sure everyone has read similar stories and could tell a dozen more. But I would like to warn everyone against working with such agencies and specifically with these guys. I wouldn't say they are devils in human form, because they know how to make money off models (see story number one), they find ways to make money from those who can't (see the story about scouts), they consider different models and take them on (see story three). These guys are trying for themselves, working and making money, and they make a lot of promises. But when you put all the pieces together with the cute kitten drawn on the box, it turns out to be crap. And you can't go back to the store and ask to replace the box. Soon they may change their nicknames on Telegram, and who knows, because these reviews don't bother them when people don't know about them. There will be a hundred more such agencies, and thousands of models will suffer, the world won't change, but you will be informed and able to avoid meeting them.

2023.03.19 19:51 urbanplayground1 [Fiction] The Hounds of Tinderlos
The Hounds of Tinderlos
Harriet Phillipa Lovecraft — 'That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange eons will get thirsty by and by...'
Stuart Lindly gazed at the financial stats for his failing company. There was so much red ink he had to look away until the blue after-images seared into his eyes faded away. “A Nice Local Girl,” the dating service he was working for was bleeding to death. One month or probably even less and he'll have to look for another job.
He sighed. The prospect of having to do the song and dance for another bored and impassive employer, well, it was not something he wanted to do. But the company was circling the drain. Again Stuart looked away from the screen. And again, he wondered what to do next.
Someone bashed the front door.
Stuart sighed again. He hoped it was an Orc or an Ork or some other rude fantasy creature, and not the rude reality creature he suspected was there.
Again the door was pounded.
Stuart got up and left his tiny office to go to the front door. Too bad the secretary couldn't handle this, but she was coming in later. Tina Leftkovitz hated the landlord. The feeling was mutual, but no, Stuart was alone.
His shoes squeaked on the pale blonde wooden floor as he finally made it to the door. He took a calming breath and looked through the peephole. As expected, he saw two bushy eyebrows. and dark brown eyes burning with anger.
“Where is your lying bastard boss? Is he here?” Gregor Grzymany grumbled from behind the door.
“No sir, Todd is out getting new clients,” Stuart answered. He had no idea what Todd Hawkins was doing.
“You're three months late with the rent. Pay by the end of the month, or you and whatever you got back there is out on the street! Should've gone with hookers, would've made more money than what you got now!” Gregor said. His eyes narrowed.
Stuart felt that he had been hit with enough stinkeye to melt the peephole's glass, and his face, but somehow he survived. “Yes, I'll tell him.” He hoped that the landlord would go already.
Gregor's eyes narrowed again, giving Stuart another blast.
Stuart wondered if he was lucky or not.
Gregor huffed and turned his muscular bulk to go back downstairs.
Stuart gazed heavenward to see if blessings or smitings would fall upon him. Nothing happened. With a shrug, he went back to his office to worry, and maybe cry a bit. When Stuart arrived at his office, Bill Marnley, the IT guy was there. “Sorry, I could've answered the door, but I didn't have my plus twelve wand of landlord pacification,” Bill joked.
Stuart frowned. He briefly considered saying that you need at least ten points of charisma to use the wand, but he just didn't feel like it. So he just slumped in his chair.
“Hey, sorry. That man scares me. And to think he has a wife,” Bill said.
For a moment the picture of a female version of Gregor flashed across Stuart's imagination. Bushy eyebrows, lumpy muscular body, and arms that could crush a car. Someone that could make trolls look supermodel sexy. His stomach flipped once. He hoped that it was the only one. “Thanks for the image. I think I'll skip lunch.”
“Sorry. You can't. Todd called, and we're going to have an important meeting. Everyone has to be there,” Bill said as a faint smile crossed his face.
“It's probably to tell us that the company is dead,” Stuart said as he switched to another section in his accounting software. Again, too much red like a slaughterhouse splashed across the screen.
“No man, Todd sounded pumped up! We might have found ourselves a client with deep pockets,” Bill said.
Stuart sighed. “Do you remember the last time Todd was pumped? That's how we ended up here. And before this, it was the Virtual Shopping mall app. And-”
“Yeah, man, I get it. We've been rolling with Todd for several years bouncing from one failed project to another, but we always ended up okay,” Bill said. His smile faded away as he remembered the failures they always seemed to survive.
Stuart fixed Bill with a tired gaze. “It's better to be smart than lucky. Luck always runs out. It has run out for him and maybe us.” He pointed at the screen filled with red text. “All of that is from negative cash flow.”
Bill shook his head.”Come to the meeting, and see. I gotta go back, and get the servers ready.”
Stuart frowned. He figured that Bill has to get the servers ready to be shut down, and boxed. Then again, looking for a job was going to be a horror show without popcorn. “Fine, I'll be there.” The lunchroom slash conference room was filled with the team. Stuart sat next to a table with his arms at his sides. He learned from painful experiences that the furniture was old and splintery. One time, a few months ago, Tina had to use her tweezers to pull out a chunk of wood large enough to make a pirate ship from Stuart's arm. Well, it wasn't that large, but it felt that way.
He swept his eyes over his company with misery. Bill, Tina, and Sahid Verma, the programmer was here. And of course, Todd Hawkins, the golden boy.
Todd sat in his somewhat less splintery chair with a faint smile on his face.
Stuart was familiar with that expression. Something was going on. Maybe, things would improve?
Todd's smile got larger, and he slapped a check down on the scratched mahogany table like it was a winning move in some game.
Tina leaned forward and gingerly picked up the check like it was a dead rat. The overhead lights brought out the red highlights in her hair along with the yellow gleam of pencils shoved into the bun on the top of her head. She looked at the check.
Stuart figured that Tina wore lead-lined glasses so her gaze wouldn't fry normal things.
Tina scrutinized the check for a few moments.
Stuart wondered if Tina was scanning the check down to the quantum level for issues.
“Todd, there is a heck of a lot of zeros here. What did you do?” Tina said when she looked up.
Todd smiled like the cat that ate the pet shop that only sold canaries. “I found a client with deep pockets.”
“Really? No offense, but who would pay us five million dollars? Are we working with the Russian Mafia?” Tina asked.
Stuart's eyes widened. “Five million dollars?”
Everyone else was buzzing.
Tina gave the check to Stuart.
He looked at it and counted the zeros then he looked up. Along with Tina, he wondered who would give them so much money. It didn't make sense.
Todd smiled again. “This is just the down payment. If we're successful for a month, we'll get another large check.”
Tina focused her gaze on Todd. “Who's the client?”
Stuart hoped that Todd wouldn't smile again. Something about that was bugging him. He didn't know why.
Todd sighed. “You know, I'm lousy with names. It's some Egyptian guy, last name is Hotep. He wants us to upgrade our dating service for his clients. And they're international. Carcosa, think it's Italy, Leng, that's in China. Some place called Riley, think that's in Ireland somewhere. And of course local customers too. Soo many lonely peeps can use our services. We've hit the big times!”
Tina nodded. “Sounds cool. So what do we have to do to get this money?”
Sahid burst in. “I'd like to keep my firstborn, she's so cute!”
Everyone laughed, but it sounded nervous to Stuart. Like they were too close to a graveyard, and not mirthful. He didn't know why, but there was something wrong here. Something off like a misplaced decimal point or comma. Why would someone who probably had more than five million want to hire their rinky-dink outfit, and not one of the larger, better-staffed companies?
Stuart frowned for a moment, he didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, well, he found horses to be scary. So big.
Bill shuffled forward and eyed the check. “So Todd, what do we have to do?”
Todd smiled again. Thank goodness it was just a normal-sized one. “Well, there are some forms you have to sign, and we have to move to someplace upstate. Some place called Arkham in Massachusetts. They already have an office set up. We just move in and integrate our stuff with theirs. Don't worry about the land values, they're pretty cheap. You can buy a nice house for what you pay rent for a shoe box here.”
Sahid smiled. “My wife and daughter would love their own garden.”
It also sounded good to Stuart.
Tina frowned. “Moving way upstate? I got a bad feeling about this. What if things go south? We're stuck up north in some tiny town.”
Todd shook his head. “Arkham has the world-renowned Miskatonic University. They don't put universities in podunk towns.”
Tina shook her head making the red highlights dance in her hair. “Well, I never heard of it.”
Stuart was amazed that none of the pencils fell out.
“Don't worry, tomorrow I'll bring in some info packs for all of you. All of your questions will be answered,” Todd said.
“Will they have the winning lotto numbers?” Bill joked.
For a moment, Todd's happy mask slipped a bit.
Stuart thought he saw anger flash in Todd's eyes before Todd recovered. Maybe it was something else?
“My client knows things, but I think this agreement doesn't cover lotteries or games of chance. Maybe you'll meet him, and chat about it?” Todd said, now all smiles and happiness. “Now, I'm off to the bank to deposit this check so Stuart can handle paying off debts, and your paychecks.”
“Do you think the bank will trust that check? I mean we have been so close to zero and worst, I've been picking up pennies,” Stuart asked. He knew that the bank might hold on to the money until they think it was legitimate before allowing the funds to be used.
“We'll be fine,” Todd said while he got up, and put the check in his suit pocket. “Oh, you guys can leave early if you want. Be here at eleven sharp so I can give you your packets.” He looked back and smiled then left.
“Do you believe what he said?” Bill asked as a smile played upon his lips.
Stuart almost wanted to smile. Even though he didn't want to leave his apartment in the crap neighborhood that had more rats than hookers. Rats just ignored him. but the hookers seemed contemptuous. The prospect of making some decent money did feel good. Maybe he could move to a better area with fewer rats and hookers, or even none? One could only hope.
“I dunno,” Tina said.
Bill moved over. He knew better than to stand too close to Tina when she gets excited, and her hands start moving.
Tina continued. “The money sounds good, but I gotta bad feeling about this. My Nana has a saying, if it's too good to be true, it's not. It sounds better in the original Polish.”
“Not the original Klingon?” Bill asked.
Tina just waved the comment away with a left hand that almost blurred. “Hey, I don't want to be a wet blanket, but you guys should read the text carefully. Maybe get your lawyers to read it too. Um, wait, we probably don't have the money for that, and I broke up with Lenny. You know, the lawyer. Freakin cold fish.“
Stuart frowned. He remembered when Tina broke up with Lenny. Too much screaming, and crying. Tina did well, Lenny not so much. “Yeah, we'll be careful.”
Bill frowned. “What's wrong with the deal?”
Tina shrugged. “Again, I have a bad feeling. I know Todd told us almost nothing. I would rather be in a city that doesn't sleep than a tiny town where they roll up the sidewalks at night.”
Sahid walked up. “Hey, if the schools are good or not too far away, I'll bite. Are you sure you're not biased? My wife would love to not learn things like how to tell the difference between auto and semi-automatic gunfire.”
Tina shrugged again. “Hey, let's see what's in the packs. Especially the fine print. Bring your magnifying glasses. Don't sign anything until you know exactly what's going on.” She turned her gaze on everyone.
Everyone nodded.
For a moment, Stuart felt a chill race down his back. What am I going to be involved in, he thought, but then he pushed that away. A bit of optimism floated up.
At ten-forty-five, Stuart left his desk. There was a slight smile on his face. It felt good to have money and to pay bills. Even Grzymany got his payment. Most of the unease he had felt had melted away, but a bit remained. Would he have to prick his finger, and sign a contract with blood? Stuart frowned, no, that's too dramatic. They'll have pens. He hoped they had those before deciding the whole train of thought led to some really strange destinations. It was time for him to hop off!
The meeting room was quiet even though it was full. Everyone just kept looking around like they wanted to remember this place before going somewhere that wouldn't allow them to return. Stuart frowned. This was not how folks thought about moving upstate or was that upcountry?
A few minutes before eleven, Todd arrived with a bulging leather satchel.
Everyone sat down.
“I wonder if they'll let us do a makeup test,” Bill said.
Stuart was getting college test vibes. Why? They were just signing forms like the other times' Todd got a new money-making scheme. For some unknown reason, this felt different, more like an important test that determined the rest of his life. His stomach flipped at the weight of responsibility.
“Bill, I bet we have to sit with a space between us to prevent cheating,” Sahid said.
“That's a good idea. Everybody should go to their office or work area with their info paks. Each one is made specifically for each person here. Don't share the contents of each pack with each other,” Todd said as he looked over the folks sitting in front of him.
Why is he doing things like this, Stuart wondered. Again, he peered at Todd. Something was off, but he couldn't say why. If each person couldn't share the contents of their pak, how do they know if they're getting a decent deal? Before they started the dating service, Todd just told everyone a ballpark figure for their pay and any benefits. There were no surprises.
Again, Stuart wondered why Todd and their mysterious benefactor had changed things.
Todd cleared his throat and opened his travel-worn satchel. “When I give you your pak, go to your office to fill it out. I would like to take them back to the client sometime after two. The faster we get the paks to the client, the faster you can be in the system and get paid.”
“What if we have questions? You know like problems with moving or benefits?” Tina asked.
“Call the number in the pak. Customer service will help you with anything. Sahid Verma please come, and get your pak,” Todd said.
For some reason, this felt like the opposite of graduation, or rather folks were lining up to get something terrible like a boot to the head. Stuart pushed that thought away. After a few more moments, Stuart got his info pak, and he headed for his office.
It was kinda heavy, too much just for a bunch of papers. Stuart couldn't wait to see what was inside, but he waited until he was in front of his computer. After he moved his keyboard, and other items away, he opened the envelope.
The first sheet of paper had a number for someone to help him settle in Arkham. Stuart smiled, at least he wouldn't have to do that by himself in a strange new town. After that was the contract, and there was something off about it. He didn't know why. A few moments passed before Stuart finally touched the strange yellow paper of the contract. Immediately, he wiped his finger on his pants before frowning and grabbing some napkins from a box to wipe his pants. For a quick moment, he thought about getting some hand sanitizer, but he barely managed to reject the notion.
Stuart peered at the contract again. This time it was just regular paper though he made sure not to touch it without wrapping napkins on his hands. He didn't know why, it seemed like the paper was covered in something unpleasant that he couldn't see or smell. A quick sniff gave him the slight hint of old dusty rot, and then it was gone.
Finally, he pushed back his misgivings, and just read the contract. It was the usual stuff he had seen in other contracts from Todd. For a moment, he wondered why he still felt uncomfortable looking at and touching the document. It didn't make sense. Stuart grabbed the fancy gold pen with red highlights. His fingers burned, but that faded away after he signed, and put the date on the contract. The ink was a weird deep red. Stuart shrugged and figured that Todd's client got a special ink for the pen. A feeling of dread swept through Stuart as he placed the contract, and the other items back into the pak. He just figured his imagination was working overtime. Once they got to Arkham, everything would be fine.
Maybe?
Hounds of Tinderlos Chapter Two
Stuart stood at the bridge and watched the gray-green water of the Miskatonic slowly flow past. For a moment, he wished he was back in NYC watching the Hudson river. Yeah, it was an EPA super fund site, but there was something not quite right about the river he gazed at. With a sigh, he turned away, and hoped that bottled water was cheap in this town.
When Stuart heard of Arkham, he was expecting that the office building would be some old red-brick building. Nope, it was glass and steel with no bricks in sight. The whole block was a bunch of modern-looking skyscrapers that wouldn't be out of place in lower Manhattan. This was a good thing for him. Too bad the area that surrounded it wasn't so upscale.
The neighborhood that Stuart trudged quickly through to get to work would've been great for a post-apocalyptic scene. Too many broken windows, empty storefronts, and of course smells that made him cough and choke. And he learned real fast not to look up at the dark windows. Was it better or worse not to see any people? Stuart wasn't sure, but he vowed to get the company connected to a car service if possible. Something about this area raised his hackles more than his old crappy 'hood. At least there the hookers and rats were somewhat civil.
“You know that building across from us seems to me more and more like a fishbowl,” Bill said as he peered through Stuart's office window.
Stuart flicked his eyes across the street, and back at his monitor. The small office across from them seemed to have strange-looking people there. There was something off about them, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
“The secretary looks kinda hot, nice rack, but that kinda greyish skin and bulging not blinking eyes makes me think of the fish my uncle used to sell,” Bill said then sat in the chair next to Stuart.
“Your uncle sold fish with tits?” Stuart asked while he clicked through several screens. Thankfully, there was no red, just lots of black and green. Those were the colors of a financially healthy company.
Bill laughed. “No, that was my other uncle, he ran a brothel.”
“Really?”
“Nah, and my uncle didn't wear a bra. That secretary looks off, but I wonder,” Bill said while gazing through the window.
“You know what? Stop screwing around, and get her a bouquet of flounders!” Stuart said.
Bill shook his head. “Nah, what if she rejects me? Stu, I won't be able to handle the anchor in her eyes!”
They both laughed.
“Stu man, I gotta say this. I miss Tina. This place creeps me out every day. I'm glad you let me come upstairs. I get it that they have the servers downstairs in the sub-basement. It's easier to control the temps down there. But sometimes I hear things-”
There was a knock on Stuart's door then Sahid stuck his head in.
Stuart's eyes widened when he saw how exhaustion lay in the bags under Sahid's eyes. “Wow, your kids not sleeping well?”
Sahid nodded and then closed the door. “Enid Whateley was supposed to get us a house, but she said the market was tight, and we got just an apartment. Later on, she promised us she'd get us a house outside the city. The apartment was okay, it was larger than what we had before, and the rent was cheap.”
He stopped and slumped into the other chair in Stuart's office. “Then the stupid dreams started. I don't remember mine, but Prisha and Sannvi sometimes wake up screaming. Prisha just says it's just the move and the unfamiliar area. Sannvi is too young to talk so I can't ask her what's wrong.”
Bill gave Sahid a half smile. “Once things settle down, they'll be fine.”
“Do you guys have any strange dreams?” Sahid asked while switching his gaze from Bill to Stuart.
“Sometimes, I dream of my ex, but I just pop an anti-psychotic, and I sleep like a baby. Getting tired of cleaning up my bed though,” Bill said.
Stuart just shook his head. Something about the nightmares his co-workers had bothered him, but he didn't know why.
“Thanks, Bill. You're probably right. Other than that everything is great. Great pay and work. Next week we get the Tinderlos dating service online. Tinderlos? What kind of name is that?” Sahid said. He sighed like a great weight had been dropped onto his shoulders.
Bill frowned. “That kinda sounds like something I read when I was a kid. But I just can't get the name right.”
“You don't hear things?” Bill asked as he quickly glanced out the window.
“What things?” Sahid asked while checking his watch.
Bill sighed. “Nothing, it's probably my imagination. Gotta spend more time upstairs-”
“Gawking at the fish woman secretary over there,” Stuart said and pointed at the office in the other building.
Sahid frowned. “Speaking of fish women, Enid has this weird scent, or perfume like tuna fish and rose water. It's kinda faint, but I could still smell it. Her eyes seemed to kinda bulge out of her head, and she doesn't seem to blink.”
“What about her rack?” Bill asked.
“I'm not interested in that. At least not from some woman that gives me low-level creepy vibes. But she's polite and seems to know her job. I gotta go, see you guys later,” Sahid said. He left and closed the door quietly.
Bill sighed. “Sometimes I think the server room's layout is wrong like the walls aren't meeting at ninety-degree angles.”
“What?” Stuart asked. This was something he wasn't interested in.
“Nothing. Come down to the server room when you can,” Bill invited.
Stuart just nodded.
After Bill left, Stuart got back into the flow dealing with the company's money. He didn't even think too much about what Bill and Sahid said. To him, it seemed like these problems would go away once they spent more time in Arkham.
Early Monday morning, Sahid, Stuart, and Bill sat in the dim cavernous server room.
Stuart felt like he was in a cave. It was kinda cold, the light seemed dim, and the corners had shadows in them. But the monitors and the lights on the servers were bright. He was just an accountant so the text that scrolled down the screens was meaningless to him.
Sahid and Bill on the other hand had plenty to celebrate. They fist-bumped and whooped.
“Guys, what's going on?” Stuart asked.
Sahid looked away from the monitor, and Stuart could see the light around the bags under his eyes. “Lotsa people are signing up and paying. Not only that they're using the services. So many, way more than what we had before! If this keeps up we could get huge bonuses!” Sahid enthused.
Bill smiled. “Gimme mo' benjamins!”
For a moment, Stuart could feel enthusiastic. Maybe this time, Todd had finally got them to the promised land. Then he wondered about that thought. Where did that come from?
“Your code-slinging skills and my server support wizardry finally get us what we deserve!” Bill said while holding out his fist for another bump.
“Bill, I didn't code the website. I just wrote some connecting code for the modules. Someone else wrote them,” Sahid said while looking down.
Just like that, jubilation left the room like Elvis.
A chill raced down Stuart's back. He was quite sure it wasn't the air conditioning. “What?”
Bill frowned. “What about our user database? Um, yeah, it was pretty small.”
Sahid looked up. “Yeah, there was an app that merged our database to the original one.”
Stuart looked away to see if the shadows were the same in the corners and then looked back at Sahid. “Where did you get the code?”
Sahid looked at Stuart. “It came in a box with some flash drives. There were also some instructions too.”
Bill scanned the servers and looked at Sahid. “Did Todd send you the package?”
“I guess so. It was sitting on my desk. Probably the client made their own website, but they had problems with other things. I don't know,” Sahid shrugged.
“Tina said this was too good to be true. What's really going on? Why do they need us if they already have the website?” Stuart said. He just knew that surprises were inbound, and these were probably not going to be good.
Bill nodded. “Yeah, this is starting to smell fishy. We need to talk to Todd. Do you guys have his number? All I have is Enid's number. And I'm beginning to not trust her.”
Stuart frowned again. “This doesn't feel like Todd. If one of his schemes worked he would be here with champagne, and some food celebrating. We would be congratulating him on finally getting something to work. It's a win, and he's not here to boast? Why have we not met the mysterious client either?”
Sahid nodded. “Yeah. Where is he? I don't have his number. Got his email, but who knows who's answering that.”
Bill looked around like he was searching for prying eyes. “How about we keep this under our hats? Something hinky is going on, and we need to focus on finding Todd. Maybe this is some sort of money laundering scam by some international crime ring?”
“I don't think so, but you could be right,” Sahid said.
“I'll keep an eye on the books, and check for weird financial transactions,” Stuart said. He didn't look around.
After a few moments, Sahid and Stuart left Bill staring at the monitors.
Stuart kept his gaze straight ahead and didn't check out the corners.
Dark gray clouds covered the sky like a steel lid to a coffin. Finally, the day was over, and Stuart stood on the sidewalk waiting for a taxi he ordered. It bugged him that he couldn't set up a car service for his co-workers. The company was making cash hand over fist, but Todd or whoever answered the emails had rejected his request. It didn't make sense to him.
Luckily for Stuart, the sky just spat occasionally at him so the wait wasn't too bad. When the car slid up to the front of the building he got in. The ride home would be quick. He also knew not to look out the windows until he was in front of his building. Whatever was going on in the blighted area he rode through he wanted to be blissfully ignorant.
Dinner was some sort of microwaved stuff, he didn't really care. His mind just buzzed, and sparked with thoughts about Bill and Sahid, and what they worried about. What was going on? Why were they having strange dreams? When would he start having them too? Unfortunately, Stuart got his answer...
He found himself floating in a dark void with faint pinpricks of light. They seemed like stars to him. Then something tugged at him from his left. It felt like the area around him was bent toward something he couldn't see. So far, the dream was just strange so Stuart went with the flow.
Up ahead, he saw darkness blacker than night. It was more of a feeling of absolute blackness than something he could see. Around it was a halo of light like a closed eye. Stuart tried to move back and to his surprise, it worked. He tried to look at his feet and saw nothing. After a few moments, the beauty of the area hit him. Even the dark eye was kinda pretty with the shimmering glow around it.
Then the pink fog appeared out of nowhere. For a moment it just swirled then it began to pulsate in languorous beats.
Stuart gaped at what he saw. This was definitely not based on what he saw today. Dreams were supposed to be based on current life events.
The fog pulsed a bit faster.
Dread filled Stuart. For some reason, it seemed like every slow swirl uncovered something nasty, and frightening, but he wanted to see more.
He was too busy being repelled, and attracted by the strange pink fog that he forgot about the glowing closed eye, and its powerful pull. With a jerk that would've broken his neck if he had one, Stuart was pulled in closer. I think I have to wake up now, he thought, but he was still in the dream as the grip began to squeeze his legs harder.
Stuart tried to fight back by thinking about moving away, but the feeling of being stretched like a rubber band broke his concentration. To make things worse, the eye was starting to open, or he was getting too close. Strange colors glimmered in the distance as he felt like he was rushing towards his doom. It felt like he had jumped from a tall building, and the ground was rushing up to meet him. Then a pink fog filled his sight...
A scream filled Stuart's apartment as he woke up sweating. It took him a moment to realize that he had been screaming. Right after that, the alarm clock app on his phone shrilled. That morning had a slow start as Stuart shambled off to work.
After a few fancy too-expensive coffees that he indulged in, Stuart felt kinda normal. Exhaustion still dragged on him, but it was so far just a light touch. Also, the excitement of being on the hunt for strange financial transactions kept his eyes glued to his monitor. He hoped that following the money would lead to some useful info like who was their mysterious client. All he knew was money was being sent from NHotep LLC. After a few hours that trail turned cold as his ignored lunch.
With a grimace, he turned to the window. “Damn, who is NHotep? Why can't I find out more about them? Where are they getting their money?” There was no reply, and Stuart got up from his chair to head for Sahid's office.
He heard snoring coming from the other side of the door. For a moment, Stuart wondered if he should come back later. A strangled shriek changed his mind. A moment later, he was in Sahid's office looking at a very tired Sahid. The bags under his eyes had graduated from pouches to suitcases for a week's worth of clothes.
“You okay? I heard screams,” Stuart said.
Sahid looked around and then put his head in his hands. “I had a nightmare, but it felt so real.”
Stuart nodded. He remembered his dream of being in space and the strange pink fog. “Do you remember your dream?”
Sahid raised his head. “Yeah, I was in some sort of cave. It should've been dark, but for some strange reason, I could see pretty well. There were no lights or torches. It smelled like tons of things were dead, but it didn't bother me. I've taken the NYC subway in summer, so I was used to nasty stinks. I had to watch my step since there were giant bones with flesh, and without all over the place. If it was just this, I would've just chalked it up to something I had for lunch. As I kept walking I heard something ahead of me. Then I saw it. Imagine that Griggy guy who was our landlord at the old place except it wore a dress.”
Stuart frowned. The landlord wasn't his favorite type of people. Also, the image wasn't too pleasant. “What happened next?”
Sahid looked down then up and frowned. “I don't know what it was. The thing, think it was a female wearing a purple dress. You know how I knew it was female?”
Stuart shook his head.
“It had lipstick on its lips. The thing had grayish skin, and bright red lipstick on its vertical lips. Yeah, the lips split the creature's face in half. But you know what? That wasn't the scary part. It was more like a What the Hell moment. The creature gestured to me to come closer so I took a few steps. Then the area started shaking, and the creature looked around and started to run away. Every few seconds it would look behind it to see if I followed. Maybe I should've run after the thing because a giant worm all pale and disgusting rose up in the air, and well that's when I woke up,” Sahid said then reached into his pocket for a napkin to wipe the sweat off of his face. That didn't work out well because it smeared small bits of paper all over his face. “Damn,” He said then got a napkin from inside his desk.
“Um, I'm going to guess you didn't have dreams like this at the old place,” Stuart said.
Sahid shook his head. “Maybe Bill has some ideas? At least his office is cooler.”
Stuart nodded, and they set off for Bill's office. Again, Stuart kept his gaze forward, and he didn't check out the corners.
For a moment, Stuart and Sahid stood in the doorway gazing at Bill. They expected him to be miserable too, but he wasn't.
Bill hummed as he watched the monitors, and sometimes he would glance over to a server to check its status lights.
“Sahid, what's up with Bill?” Stuart said while he didn't believe his eyes.
Sahid sighed. “Bill is in love, or something close to it. Remember Didi?”
Stuart frowned as he tried to remember. “Wait, the coffee woman?”
Sahid nodded slowly. “Yeah, you didn't come by that much, there were some money problems going on at the time. Didi liked Bill, and she would give us free coffee. Then the bookstore closed down, and they lost touch. Bill nearly lost it. He used to call me every night crying, or almost crying until my wife put her foot down.”
Stuart had to think hard about that time. “Yeah, the company was heading for ruin, and I had to juggle the books legally to keep our jobs and location.”
Bill turned around and saw them. “Wow, you guys musta be psychics. I was gonna call you.” He frowned. “You look like crap though.”
Stuart noticed that Bill's complexion which was never ruddy was getting to be a bit gray. It didn't help that his eyes were kinda bulgy. Nothing too extreme, but still noticeable.
“Let me guess, you hooked up with that woman in the office across the street?” Sahid said.
Bill smiled. “No hooking up, at least not yet. Abby and I just hang out and go swimming. No skinny dipping. I even met her folks, strict but they're nice. Heck, they tell some interesting stories about the town and its past.”
“Let me guess her last name is normal?” Stuart asked while walking into the room.
Bill shook his head. “No. I can't pronounce it though I try. Abby says eventually I'll get it. I have to say, I love swimming.”
Stuart's stomach flipped as he remembered the disgusting water of the Miskatonic. “You guys swim in the river?”
“Hell no! That sludge is toxic. We go to Innsmouth,, and go swimming there,” Bill said. “What's going on with you guys? Both of you have bags under your eyes that are larger than the suitcases I used for my clothes and stuff. Seriously, Samsonite has got nothing on you.”
Any other time, this would be the start of some good-natured bantering, but today, Stuart and Sahid just gazed at Bill for a moment.
“That bad huh? Um, okay. Let's do a bit of hanging out. I know a decent place we can go and drink a bit. Nothing really heavy since tomorrow is a work day. I'll pay for an Uber so you guys can get home safely.”
“Thanks, man,” Sahid said.
Stuart just frowned.
“Don't worry, everything is on me. Gimme a few minutes to log out, and get my stuff and we'll go,” Bill said.
Stuart opened his mouth to ask for the name of the place, but Bill put his fingers on his lips for a hot moment.
They left Bill's office.
Stuart hoped the corners were well-lit.
There are three more chapters left.

2023.03.18 14:12 Various-Pace8815 I love you's
It was yesterday, 17th of March. For the past few weeks, or I guess it started after the 28th of February, I opted to go home from the office on the dot. It is not my usual routine. I am the type to go home late to the point of exhaustion. But after what happened to me on February 28, I felt the need to retreat to my shell, and that is at home. With Mama. With my kids. I decided to compartmentalize my emotions. My feelings.
Yeah, so back on March 17. Mira, my closest officemate, asked me to stay longer at the office. The original plan was for me to go home early, for I will have to go back to Abreeza Davao and buy Mama’s injection for her spine, bones. But when I called Mama, she told me that my brother would buy the injection and she asked me, "Niya muuli naka karon? Or madugay paka?". Then I looked at Mira, I then told Mama that I would be going home late. Long story short, I stayed and tried to finish some paperwork while waiting for Mira. She is 10 years younger than me. She is like a little sister to me. I love her.
She told me, "Ma'am Jane, sabay ta dinner ha. Ayaw sa ug uli ug sayo.". To which I consented. We were working silently. She was finishing the printing of payslips. I was encoding COEs and updating our database. She then blurted out, "Ma'am Jane, kanus a ka last nagsulti ug."I love you. " It made me laugh. I told her that I said I love you every day. To my Rosie and Dodong. To Mama. I get it. She doesn't mean my kids and my family. And I became thoughtful. It has been years.
The last time was with my husband, whom I had left 3 years ago, going on four. But I guess the last time I told him those three words was when Rosie was still our baby. My falling out of love from him was not an immediate realization. It was an everyday torment. It started to fade when he repeatedly hurt my feelings intentionally -- by unintentionally throwing away the love letters I wrote him, to which I saw with my own eyes. The everyday neglect. The physical abuse. The contempt I saw in his eyes every time I achieved something at the workplace. The hunger in his eyes when all he wanted was s*x. Him forgetting my birthday. He neglected Rosie and blamed me even for being pregnant with Dodong.
Those above-mentioned reasons are the things I can not say to just anybody every time I get asked why I don't try reconciling with him even just for my kid's sake. I have felt neglected and invalidated for quite some time. I may be warm and loving, but I don't trust easily. I have been left behind and made felt unwanted that I am too afraid of being back in the same situation.
I then answered Mira after that thought, "Mir lisod man gud siya isulti. Because for me, if the love is real, if it is true, saying it would be difficult, hard. For when you tell that person na love nimo siya, you are baring yourself. You are vulnerable. You are giving that person the opportunity to hurt you.". Then I added, "The closest thing that I said to another Mir kay, I care for you, too much. Kana lang. Hahaha."
Then I realized that I couldn't say the words because love has weight. And I haven't found that person whom I can risk my heart again. I am too afraid to be left again.
But yeah, no one will know that. Para sa uban, ako tung tao na maski unsa ka busy sa office, will go the extra mile to help other colleagues maski akoang work ang ma sacrifice. Ako tung makiglalis pero after 30 minutes, dili na maka tiis niya muuna nakog tagad. Ako tung gikan pa sa una, mag cut ug classes para sa akoang bestfriend kay need ko nila. I am that friend who will be angry for you cheated on your husband but will wake up at 1am every day for a week just so that I can scold you and assure you still that, whatever happens, I am and will always be here. I don't hold grudges. I forgive, yes, but I don't forget. With my husband, I agreed to be co-parents, but that is just about that. I also realized that you can be the luckiest person alive if I still care for you. But the moment I don't feel anything, I can never care more.
So kadto, nag out mi ni Mira sa office, nangaon sa McDo (yes, kaya na nako mukaon usab sa McDo haha). Kadto lang gihapon amuang topic kay dli niya ma gets. She doesn't get how I can be that person. Then I thought of what I just did that afternoon. I sent someone a box of revel bar, planner and all sorts of whatnots and yeah letters - one handwritten and one I encoded on my desktop and I thought it has been nine years since I made such an effort for someone and my alibi is, "I just care too much."
I smiled, thinking -- "Who am I kidding?"
Siya, ug akoang self. Haha. But no, I realized that I am the only person responsible for my feelings. I won't drag him to it. Me expressing my care, my making him feel that he is valuable and important doesn't oblige him to reciprocate. I won't ask that from him. I will never do that. My feelings for that person have no strings attached. He can care or not, for all I care. I just want him to know that I am glad to have met him and that I am here. That there will always be that one person who will root for him to succeed. That will pray for his safety always.
And I will leave it at that. Ciao! 😊

2023.03.17 12:51 Green_Crypto_Pay Why blockchain is necessary: 6 reasons
Blockchain is a database made up of a sequential chain of digital blocks, each block contains information about the previous and next blocks. The use of blockchain makes the work transparent and easier to do.
In this article, we will give 6 examples of what blockchain is being used for.
1. Secure information storage
In a client-server architecture nodes are unequal: servers store information and control access to it, while clients only send requests to servers and receive it.
Blockchain in turn is a peer-to-peer network in which data is not held in one place but distributed among all participants (nodes), minimising the risk of loss or leakage of important information. Thus, it is almost impossible to hack into a blockchain, as it would require taking out at least half of its nodes.
2. Acceleration of information exchange
In order for the information to be transmitted to the recipient, it has to go through many intermediate servers. This takes a long time because the chain of actions is long and the servers may be overloaded or disabled.
A peer-to-peer blockchain architecture allows data to be transmitted quickly and directly, regardless of the location of users. This is especially valuable when speed of decision-making is important.
3. Removing intermediaries
Servers also check that the information is correct when it is transmitted. Although this is often necessary, the presence of an intermediary adds to the cost of the transaction. For example, the bank may withhold the commission.
Consensus algorithms, such as Proof of Work, Proof of Stake and others, remove intermediaries. Since the data is distributed to all participants, any user can verify and validate a new transaction. This process is referred to as mining. Competition between participating miners is high, and this keeps fees low.
By removing intermediaries and reducing costs, blockchain has become common in finance. Many cryptocurrencies are based on blockchain, including the very first, bitcoin.
Green Crypto Processing also charges one of the lowest fees in the market at 0.5% per transaction, allowing you to customise cost-effective, fast and transparent payments to your clients’ specific needs.
4. Increasing trust in the network
In the absence of intermediaries, the risk of cheating between participants increases, which often leads to distrust in peer-to-peer networks.
However, blockchain solves this problem with consensus algorithms, preventing changes that most users disagree with. Therefore, the blockchain is almost impossible to hack and the information it contains cannot be changed or deleted.
5. Visibility of the whole history of changes
It is often necessary to build the history of changes in information into a clear structure, as capturing data that transforms over time is not easy, and the history of changes can be important itself.
Blockchain represents any changes to information, which are written into blocks and linked into a chain. It cannot be edited, and everyone on the network has access to the entire history of changes, down to the very first one, and can verify their authenticity.
6. Providing simultaneous work of multiple participants
When multiple participants are working in a network, they can interfere with each other: overwrite important data or watch information not intended for them. In a peer-to-peer network, this problem is particularly acute.
Asymmetric encryption technology solves this problem and makes simultaneous work comfortable. During transactions users identify themselves using a digital signature, while keeping their data secret thanks to a private key.
We have reviewed 6 goals that require blockchain, the implementation of which is becoming more feasible and inevitable in the rapidly developing digital sphere.

2023.03.16 16:40 hybrid3415 Can anyone explain how to add cheats to RetroArch?
My PowKiddy RGB20S came with thousands of cheats preinstalled. However, my new Miyoo Mini Plus is void of cheats.
Could anyone explain how I can add them? Which folder do they belong in? Also is there a database of cheats I can download and just drag & drop?
Update: For anyone looking for the cheats database. You can find it here:
