2023.06.07 11:50 exadeci /r/AustralianMFA will be joining the blackout to protest Reddit killing 3rd Party Apps

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader or [Sync[(https://www.reddit.com/redditsync/comments/142dzy8/the_future_of_sync/)
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?
  1. Complain. Message the mods of /reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.
See here for the original Apple thread on this issue.

2023.06.07 11:46 Desperate_Fig8842 How I'd have ended the series

I was thinking about what I'd have liked in terms of how the show ended and this is my version of a "better" (open to interpretation) ending.
It shows them all coming out the glow into the airport - essentially these scenes remain the same
But then it pans back through those doors to the plane etc and then starts showing the "world/timeline" they left behind. So it shows Olive and Eden looking out the window to see the world isn't ending. Drea gives birth etc. Newschannels reporting how tb3 apocalypse has ended, 828ers saved the world etc. One of those semi fast paced montages where it then skips ahead to show their lives coping - News reports about the DC being demolished, new laws shutting down the government testing etc, so footage of say DR Gupta coming out that building, a memorial for the 828ers with olive and Eden there and other passengers family etc Then it shows olive Eden and Steve (grandad) on a plane and when they land in Florida.. Vance collects them!! And it then goes to show Vance back with his family, Steve in a nice old people's place doing much better post stroke, making nice old people friends, Olive back at college studying maybe (I'm presuming she wasn't actually able to continue her education after Edens kidnapping, Graces death etc). Olive and Eden with Vance and his family at bbqs etc etc And then the final moments it shows olive turn off her light to sleep and it focuses in on a digital alarm clock that shows date and year and then the clock starts to rewind stopping on December 2017..... And then you hear the sound of wind, you start to see snow, hear the crunching, the alarm clock fades into the background and then you see the blizzard ans a man walking in a red coat .
The end
Basically my theory is thus This ending would let people either believe that flight 828 always crashed (hence thar Kelly woman's body showing signs of dying in a crash, the tail fin appearing..) and the "airport reunion" scenes is actually showing the passengers "heaven" where they get to carry on their lives from their death but with all this "otherworldly" knowledge..
It also then let's you believe there are multiple timelines running alongside esch other But importantly the final scene (with the man walking in tje snow) is obviously Zeke when he went missing which makes Mick telling Zeke in the cave even more important because it meant that that event/timeline or however you view it is destined to keep repeating itself. It also makes it important why Zeke would mention him being at the airport because when Mick arrives in "heaven"/that timeline she can find him and have happiness again.
Also it means we get some nice closure on characters we love ie Vance/older Olive/Eden (because we spent like forever trying to find her).
Also I'd throw in before the passengers land or before Cal sacrificed himself some explanation as to why he was older ie "I had to become the age I was meant to be because if I was in the DC with you we wouldn't have achieved what we needed to etc" And answers like "the tail fin and ark piece were only meant to be found to help with answers they were never meant to stay" or whatever.
(I do wonder if the tailfin reappearing and then wanting to be put back in the sea was because passengers where starring to believe they did really die and the tailfin is the evidence of that "truth" but then they don't want to believe that or want to Bury that idea hence why it then "wants" returning to the sea? Just a thought)
Anyway, that's how I'd end it. It leaves it open to interpretation whilst I think making more things make sense Maybe
If there's plot points you don't think it would explain then ask away, I can't remember all the lose ends haha

2023.06.07 11:37 Huatuomafeisan Foreign doctors- how welcome do you feel?

**Triggered by recent posts moaning about our effect on competition for training posts **
While I got my primary medical qualification in the UK, I am technically an OMG due to my citizenship. Let me share my experience and take on the current situation.
I remember the vitriolic anti-immigrant rhetoric of the Tories when I was in medical school. It made me fear for my career. It made me feel unwelcome in a country where, in effect, my university fees were subsidising the education of my colleagues. While I came to this country as an open minded 18 year old, hoping to integrate within British society, I was put off by the constant slagging off of immigrants that permeated the media, the racist attitudes of the patients whom I encountered during my attachments and my sanctimonious clinical peers who kept on implying that I would have to 'go back' after my degree or, at best, stay on doing a 'Cinderella' specialty.
Now, 10 years down the line, as a neurosurgical trainee, I realise that the wall in my mind that prevents me from ever adopting the country as my own will probably never come down. Xenophobic attitudes such as those displayed by some of the posts in this forum have kept adding to this wall, brick by brick, over the course of my years here.
With the current difficulties facing the NHS, we OMGs pose a soft target for the masses, just as we did a decade ago in the aftermath of the 2008-9 recession when the UK was going through economic doldrums. At a time when our opinions and actions should be mobilised and focused against a government determined to devalue our profession and administrators and managers with 2 GCSEs a piece who infantilise us with impunity, you have posts calling for an official petition to make it harder for OMGs to live, work and progress professionally in the UK.
It is about time that the 'indigenous' Brits come to realise how reliant most institutions in this country (including the NHS) is on young, motivated foreign people who give up the labour of the best years of their life, hoping only for a degree of fairness and a decent quality of life in return. Once this illusion breaks, I hope that the last person leaving these shores turns the lights off.

2023.06.07 11:36 _SweetCinnamon_ Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott - the perfect book if you enjoy slowburns and outdoor settings

I descovered Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott on another book request thread and I'm so thankful! This book made me wish there were more romance books that are based on hiking and outdoors. I absolutely loved it and after finishing it, I started searching for youtube videos of people hiking through the Appalachian Trail. The way the outdoors were described in the book made me feel like I was there, on the trail.
And the slowburn was chef's kiss. I really liked both characters, Jay was so cute and Olive was an enjoyable FMC. There was some sexual tension, but I liked that their relationship wasn't based only on sex.
ALSO, as a bonus, there was no dramatic break-up or miscommunication. There was a separation period, but I think it was necessary so they'd process their feelings.
I liked it almost as much as All Rhodes Lead Here. It was such an enjoyable read. Also, it's set in the same world as Penny Reid's Winston Brothers, so it's cool Easter egg for the series' fans.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a light slowburn with nice characters and hiking.

2023.06.07 11:29 hockeybro3775 Is this series approachable to male UF fans like myself who are into stuff like Dresden, Alex Verus, Sandman Slim, Rivers of London, etc?

Sorry if this kinda thread has been posted before. I’ve been on the lookout for more quality UF series out there after finishing the latest Dresden installment Battle Grounds. I’ve seen this series pop up on a few threads in the romance lit subreddit though so I’m just a little hesitant. I honestly can’t stand paranormal romance as a guy, I’m into romance/sex-light books heavy on world-building and plot/intrigue like Dresden and all those other UF series listed in the title

2023.06.07 11:26 InevitableFlesh How does my extraction method look?

I just got my hands on 200 grams of mimosa hostilis root bark powder, and I more or less have decided the method that I'll use to extract the DMT from it. However, I wanted to post my method here and see if any people with more experience with this kind of thing see any issues with my method.
1.) Bring a suspension of mimosa hostilis root bark powder in distilled white vinegar and water to a light boil for 30 minutes, and then leave the suspension overnight.
2.) This is where my method starts to diverge from the typical methods. Pass the suspension through a coffee filter to leave behind the solids, then squeeze the filter and wash the solids caught by the coffee filter with vinegar several times in order to extract as much of the water-soluble alkaloid salts as possible. Throw away the coffee filter and the solids.
3.) Reduce the acidic solution by lightly boiling it, just to have less liquid (and more concentrated liquid) to work with. This is optional.
4.) Dissolve a very generous amount of fine table salt into the solution, use some light heat to get everything completely dissolved. This will further ionize the solution, causing any lipids from the bark that were slightly soluble in the original solution to be pushed out of solution entirely.
5.) Add unheated n-heptane to the acidic solution and mix it around to pull out any lipid-soluble impurities from the solution. Since the DMT is in the form of an acetate salt at this step, none of it should end up dissolved in the n-heptane, only the impurities. Discard the n-heptane.
6.) Just to save lye and to prevent the acid-base reaction from producing too much heat, use baking soda to bring the solution to a neutral or somewhat basic pH. Then, add the lye (sodium hydroxide in my case).
7.) Once the solution has cooled to around 50C, do pulls with n-heptane like you would with any other extraction method. During pulls, keep the temperature between 40C and 50C to maximize the DMT's solubility in n-heptane.
8.) This is the part that I'm not too sure about. At this point, I can't imagine how there would be any non-alkaloid impurities dissolved in the n-heptane, so I don't see why I couldn't just let it evaporate and be left with a very clean, pure product. Since I wouldn't be allowing the n-heptane to come anywhere near the mimosa hostilis root bark powder itself, and since I'd be removing any trace lipids or other lipid-soluble impurities in the filtered acidic solution before basifying the solution, I don't see why freeze precipitation would be necessary. This is what I'm most curious about.
Thanks in advance!

As the city comes to a boil, Claire and Marcus – and Marcus’s formidable army – will have to decide where their allegiance lies.

There is no sign, no indication of what lies behind the door. If you do manage to find the restaurant, the dĂŠcor is dated and worn. Homey, if one were to be generous. The service is atrocious, the proprietor a grouch. The regulars are silent, brooding, and unfriendly to newcomers. There is no set menu, alternating with the whim and whimsy of the owner. The selection of wine and beer is sparse or non-existent at times, and the prices for everything outrageous. There is a restaurant in Toronto that is magically hidden, whose service is horrible, but whose food is divine. This is the story of the Nameless Restaurant.

Princess Laila Rose is a fallen star in human form. A beloved guardian to humanity. Yet in spite of these fantastical origins, she has never much believed in prophecies. That’s why when a demon of apocalyptic legend is presented to her in a block of ice, she feels fascination rather than fright.
Curiosity kindles into mutual desire once he breaks free of his captivity. Far from the rampaging beast of mass destruction everyone expects—he is monstrously handsome, deviously articulate and alluringly mysterious, a prince among his kind. Eager to discover his origins, Laila travels from her idyllic seaside realm into a land of unspeakable horrors, relying on her wits to survive her journey. She arrives aiming to establish peaceful contact with the aid of the besotted prince.
However, it becomes clear that the heartless demon king does not desire peace at all, only war and conquest. When diplomacy fails, Laila turns to the king’s suave and manipulative bastard son in the hopes that she can inspire both him and his trueborn brother to go against their father. But soon it is her heart she must keep from being torn between their centuries-old dangerous rivalry.

The state religion of Lukeira sends devout demon hunter Mitzli deep into the borderlands to bless the victims of demonic pranks. Once they arrive, however, they find unexpected signs of violence. 2023.06.07 11:20 StrikingCourage3768 Everything you need to know about chemical peels

What are chemical peels?

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a mild chemical solution is applied to the topmost layer of the skin. It visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Specific concentrations of carefully formulated chemical peels are used based on your skin type. These peels are generally plant-based extracts that exfoliate the dead skin layer of the skin; it removes dirt and clear clogged pores, dead skin, and excess oil from the pores. Once this layer of the skin is removed the skin that is regenerated is smoother, brighter, and less wrinkled than the old skin. This procedure also effectively clears mild to moderate acne.

Why do you need chemical peels?

Chemical peels are used to treat certain skin conditions but in general, they can be used to improve the appearance, texture, and tone of the skin.

The process of chemical peel treatment

The first step in the chemical peel treatment is to clean the face with a cleanser after which petroleum jelly is applied to the most sensitive areas of the skin to protect and prevent any irritation in these areas. After this, a peel (depending on your skin concern) is applied. Depending on the peel you might experience irritation. After this, a neutralizing solution is applied to remove the peel. The post-treatment care includes applying sunscreen to protect your skin from any kind of sun damage.
Recovery time after applying the chemical peel will vary depending on the type and strength of the peel that has been used. Immediately after the skin may feel tight and it may turn red. The use of gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen is very important. Sun exposure should be avoided when the skin is peeling. The chemical peel treatment stings depending on the type of chemical peel that has been used. Light peels usually involve lactic acid and fruit acids and they cause some redness, irritation, stinging, and crusting of the skin; all of this will eventually give way to clean, smooth and glowing skin.
Before getting a chemical peel please consult an expert to treat any skin conditions. It is important to educate yourself before going for any kind of treatment. The results of a superficial chemical peel can last up to a year if maintained with good skincare products and sunscreen whereas the results of deep peels can last for a few years!

2023.06.07 11:20 OXD Why is /r/ToyotaCrown going dark from June 12-14th? How will this change affect regular users? More info here.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.

Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, many subreddits will use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action. NOTE: While we are currently only participating in the 2-day black out, this situation is constantly changing.

What can you do?

Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

2023.06.07 11:13 Shytitmouse Apartments not enforcing disabled parking spaces?

Greetings denizens of the web. I've come to you in need. I am a tenant of an apartment complex in the state of Arkansas. I was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2020 and lost a leg (below knee amputation). It is my opinion that there are too few parking spaces for the number of tenants that these apartments can house. There are disabled parking spaces provided, however they're treated like any other spot. I work nights, so I come rolling in late and all the spots are taken rather consistently. The spaces have the paint on the ground and the typical signs on posts directly in front of the spaces. The closest space to my door is coincidentally directly under the brightest street light at the complex. So people know what they're doing. And I sympathize. I've spent the last two years biting my lip and walking the distance from the next nearest open space, handicap or otherwise. I'd guess around 150+ feet. They raised my rent nearly $100 one month before my lease renewal, so I kinda got pinched there. But, that was the last of my patience. So I've called the offices to make a formal complaint regarding the issue. I've resigned myself to call every time, every day someone without tags or placards is parked in the space. Just the space I'm interested in. I'm not playing hall monitor here, going around the complex auditing every handicap space. I'm also calling at all hours of the night, cuz that's when I'm up. Of course the call goes straight to a machine. "this call may be recorded or monitored for training purposes" "a member our our staff will get back with you during our next business hours" kinda thing. I state my name, apartment number, and the reason for calling. Ending with a polite "thank you for your time". I've got 5+ years here, and hated every day of it. But housing/rent crisis in America, am I right? Any who. I started calling this month (June). I've called and left 5 messages in 7 days so far and have received no response. I know I'm asking for eviction, but at this point any hill looks good to die on. I was just looking to prepare for the backlash and further educate myself on what rights I have and what responsibilities (if any) my overlords are legally bound to. Thanks much.

2023.06.07 11:09 Tylandord M/24 the road to self improvement is a long one, but I hope it's worth it.

I am not providing any advice nor condoning any mental health decisions made without the supervision and council of medical professionals. This post recounts my struggles with involuntary suicidal ideation but does not encourage, condone, or glorify self-harm.
If you're in crisis, go to the ER, call emergency services, or a crisis hotline. There are people who can help.
So my journey with mental health and various diagnoses is long, and I feel that sharing my multiple diagnoses and their timelines is essential to my story. That said, I'll try to be brief (no promises).
I seemed like a relatively normal kid until around the age of 3. I was difficult to potty train (I have memories from that time, which was traumatic for me and my mom). I believe this is due to my ongoing struggles with interoception. My family was also concerned about my delayed speech development. I am the youngest of 24 grandchildren and was often doted on as a child. For years my family just assumed that my development was delayed during that time because everyone did everything for me and that I lacked any need to speak for myself or toilet train because people spoke for me and found that changing me was less of a fight than trying to deal with outbursts with potty training. Then, I suddenly went from hardly speaking to one day speaking in complete sentences far beyond what other children my age could.
By age 4, my parents felt I was hyperactive and unruly. My dad, being a pharmacist, thought I should see a pediatric shrink to see about some stimulants as he had been diagnosed with ADHD and was hoping to get me treatment as early on as possible.
For the most part, nothing changed until I was 12. By this point, my family and I had spent the better part of 7 years jumping from stimulant to stimulant to control my seemingly uncontrollable nature. It was at this point in time that we decided I should have a complete Neuro-psych evaluation. At this time, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, bipolar tendencies, and dysgraphia, but not ADHD. I was put on enough Seroquel to tranquilize a horse and gained 40 pounds in about 4 months.
It took me a long time to learn to accept this diagnosis as a kid, and I didn't want to be seen as the "kid from Parenthood" or as Rainman.
At age 14, I was hospitalized at a pediatric psych ward for 9 days. I wasn't keeping up with the medications I had been prescribed (pretty sure it was bupropion), which caused violent mood swings. I was struggling. I was relentlessly bullied for my lack of social skills, being overweight, and effeminate demeanor. I was called every homophobic and neurodivergent slur, often in front of faculty. My peers would throw rotting food at me on my walk home from school. I had no friends and had lost all hope in the public school system. It got to the point where I decided to take matters into my own hands as I felt that the adults could no longer protect me in this environment.
I now know there were better ways to handle my situation and that I had more options at my disposal, but nevertheless, I chose to say something that would ensure that I would never have to return to public school ever again. The school district learned of the negligence from the staff, and my expulsion was lifted. I would be allowed to return to school the following year. In the meantime, I was to attend class at the district office with a personal instructor, away from my peers (thank god).
My mom decided to investigate various private schools for kids both exclusively on the spectrum, and more broadly affected by various neurodivergencies. I shadowed these schools and attended each one for a week. I concluded that their resources would be wasted on me as I knew other kids needed their services more than I and would feel guilty if I took that from someone who needed it more.
After attending these schools, I decided it was up to me to learn to adapt to the world around me, and I dove into teaching myself social skills, masking techniques, coping skills, healthy living, and mindfulness. I returned to in-person instruction after earning my GED at 17 and immediately proceeded to college.
At 17, I had another evaluation completed to fulfill the accommodation requirements at a community college. At that time, I was then diagnosed (by the same clinician) with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Dysgraphia. My psychiatric team now lacked the bipolar suspicion, as they believed those symptoms, at age 12, resulted from a poor home life.
And to be honest, until I turned 19, I was fine. I had been unmedicated without issue since I was 16. I was working at the college bookstore during rush week, I got a student-elected job as a club liaison, my grades were good enough for me, and I learned to buckle down when needed. I had grown, made friends, finally found myself at a healthy weight, got involved with student government, and "become popular," and while I wasn't the most dedicated student, I was progressing. I felt proud of myself.
That would all soon change. After beginning to doubt my decision to study physics (as many people had told me that it would result in more debt than I could afford and likely working in IT/CompSci like every other physics Ph.D. wannabe). I decided to change majors to Data science and move away to a full-fledged university. I hated my studies and struggled with large classrooms. I moved in with two other students who were complete strangers in an apartment off-campus. My eyes had been opened. I was not ready. I struggled with time management, public transportation, and social isolation. And then, before I knew it, I would be hit with perhaps the most distressing symptom I've ever experienced.
Disclaimer: The following paragraph contains my experiences with involuntary suicidal ideation and visual OCD. Its purpose is to shed light on my experience with mental health. It is by no means a glorification of, or encouragement to attempt, any form of self-harm. I will not go into graphic detail about what I saw and continue to see, as it is unnecessary and potentially triggering to others.
This is when the symptoms, which I now understand to be visual OCD, began. I would start to see the aftermath of my own demise regularly. At first, I would attempt to reason it away. After all, I'm happy, intelligent, and more emotionally aware than ever. But the flashes of horrific imagery continued to become more graphic and frequent, causing me to become increasingly distressed by the day. I didn't want to die, so how could I be seeing these things? It got to the point where I didn't know what to do. I was at my wit's end and felt like I was losing my mind.
I decided to see a campus NP once I had begun to fail all my classes, and he very abrasively diagnosed me with Bipolar Depression and ADHD, concluding that I was never on the spectrum. I got a medical withdrawal, my term was refunded, and I felt like a failure. I would then go on to take my classes online the following semester, but as my grades began to slip and with little hope for a brighter future, I withdrew again.
I would then dive head-first into a relationship with another man to run from my problems. I moved almost 1500 miles away from my family to be with him, and I had hoped that if I ran fast enough, my problems wouldn't keep up. This flawed thinking blinded me from the issues within the relationship and encouraged me to ignore red flags about my now ex-partner.
At 22, after trying to ignore my visual OCD for the better part of 3 years and missing the glaring issues, I finally fell into the most profound depression of my life. Despite trying online education again (and barely meeting my credit requirements), I was constantly ill, depressed, and often unwilling to get out of bed. My relationship had been falling apart since we had moved in together, and I had grown tired of running away.
My ex-partner was unexposed to mental health struggles before being with me, and rightfully assessing that it was not his responsibility to be my caretaker, he gave me an ultimatum. Either I do something about it or go home and let my family take over. I decided to try a few medications I had been on in the past based on my mom's best recollection of what was most effective growing up. No success.
Six months later, I finally came clean about the hallucinations/flashes when my best friend took her own life. I couldn't risk keeping this secret any longer if I was to have any chance of making it. I had to persevere. For myself, for my family, for her.
By this point, I had been on almost every class of drug used to treat mental illness, excluding MAOIs and tricyclics. I needed something different and fast.
That's when I learned about ketamine infusions for depression from my mentor. He encouraged me to go to a clinic and see if they felt I was a good candidate. I was, and it's the best treatment I've ever received. I'm fortunate that I can afford it with the help of my family's financial support.
I had found relief from the visual OCD and gained clarity regarding my relationship. Over Thanksgiving of 2022, I broke things off with him and moved back in with my folks. I have been continuing my treatment here, and my new psychiatrist finally revealed that I have OCD, ADHD, and ASD. He also told me that depression and anxiety are accessories to these other issues.
My treatments have been helping more than anything has in the past. But now more than ever, I feel like I'm still struggling with the fallout of the last 5 years. I think I've wasted precious time and let naivety dictate my decisions for far longer than reasonable.
I've been enrolled in online school for the last year and a half in a program I love, but I've lagged behind. Lacking the motivation to continue and feeling ill-equipped to confront the road ahead of me, I'm stalling.
I know I'm bright, but I feel it's unearned when people talk about me in high regard. I don't feel I've accomplished anything when I complete a course ahead of schedule. I don't feel happiness in success, and I struggle to carry out my goals.
I'm still struggling to take care of myself. Keeping my surroundings clean and organized, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule (even when practicing seemingly perfect sleep hygiene), bathing myself, socializing with others, and managing my time all feel like ginormous tasks on their own (let alone maintaining all of them simultaneously).
I often wonder... "What happened to me?" "I was doing so well." "How did things get to this point?" "I want things to go back to how they were."
The last 6 months have been the best I've been in 5 years, but it's still hard. There's so much to do, so much to relearn.
When I returned to my home city, my friends had all moved on. I tried to make new friends by joining a league at a local pool hall (billiards is a passion of mine), but I couldn't make a good connection with any of them. The things I used to love, like video games, mountain biking, billiards, music, scripting projects, and drawing, are all met with anhedonia.
I'm seeing a therapist, and it's helping some, but I still feel like cogs and gears are missing from my clock. Pieces are missing from the puzzle. I feel unwhole. I want to live up to "my potential" and have something to feel proud of, but I feel anxious and self-conscious whenever I pursue an activity. I want to do things again.
Part of me wonders if I even have the proper diagnosis, if there's something we still don't know about. I have a hard time trusting that mental health professionals that diagnose and prescribe can help me anymore because they've all had a different idea of what I have, with no new ideas for treating my mental illness.
I keep trudging along, trying to find joy in the process, but I can't help but feel the weight of the tasks ahead. I know results-based thinking isn't sustainable, but when you feel like you're stagnating in the process, it's hard not to feel hopeless for the years to come.
I'm not suicidal, but I'm beginning to question what all this is even for. I'm unlikely I'll ever find complete relief from my symptoms. Life is probably going to keep being hard. I'm just hoping that one day all this work and dedication will pay off, the other shoe will drop, and I'll finally find meaning and joy in life.
Until then, I'll keep persevering with the ebbs and flows, trying to maintain whatever kind of good habits and routine I can until I feel comfortable enough to try adding something new.
Hopefully, this post doesn't get flagged, as I actually found typing this out pretty therapeutic. We aren't alone in our struggles.
There's hope out there... I think. Maybe not now, but hopefully, the page will turn, and the sun will shine for a brighter tomorrow.
Edited for improved reading clarity.

Check out part 1 for context
The Tonpa Kingdoms Part 1 (Overview and The Gods) : worldbuilding (reddit.com)
There are 5 connected Kingdoms that have Tonpa as their main religion these are.
Jangshun
A Place of snow-capped Mountains and green Valleys, said to be built upon the ruins of the ancient Jungar people who controlled much of the area of Jangshun and the nearby kingdoms of Monyul and Taishigang.
Very little is known about the Jungar, their ruins are scattered throughout the landscape of Jangshun, and are often characterized by simple stone structures, pottery shards, and other artifacts. Based on these remains, it is believed that the Jungar were a relatively simple society, with a lifestyle that revolved around farming, herding, and other basic activities.
Despite their lack of sophistication, the Jugar are an important part of the history and culture of the region many myths and legends have grown up around them, the people of Jangshun often see the Jungar as a symbol of the enduring spirit of the region, and take pride in the fact that they were able to survive and thrive in a harsh and unforgiving environment. In addition to their physical remains, the Jungar have left a lasting impact on the people of Jangshun in other ways. Their language, customs, and traditions are thought to have influenced the culture of the later kingdom, and many people still feel a strong connection to the Jagun and their way of life.
The Capital of Jangshun is called Druktse, founded by Dragon Priests and the legendary Namgyal dynasty the city is known for its unique architecture, with buildings made of wood and stone, intricately carved and painted with colorful designs and motifs, the streets are narrow and winding, with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze and the sound of temple bells ringing in the air.
At the center of the city is the Royal Palace of Jigme Wangchuk, a majestic building that serves as the residence of the Royal Family, the palace consists of several wings and halls, each with its own specific function. The main hall is the center of political and ceremonial activities, where the king held court and received important guests. The royal family's private quarters were located in a separate wing, with opulent living spaces and lavish decorations.
One of the most impressive features of the palace is the Eagle Tower, a tall structure that houses the elite Eagle Guards, who were responsible for the king's security the tower is covered from top to bottom with intricate carvings of the bird of prey.
The palace is surrounded by lush gardens and fountains, and it is guarded by soldiers in traditional Eagle attire, the Eagle Guards of the palace of Jingme Wangchuk are an elite group of soldiers tasked with protecting the king and the royal family, known for their fearsome reputation and exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards are considered one of the most prestigious units in the Jangshun army.
The guards are named after the majestic eagles that inhabit the mountainous regions of Jangshun, and they were trained to emulate the hunting tactics of these birds of prey. They are adept at using the terrain to their advantage, and are particularly skilled at scaling steep cliffs and mountainous terrain to surprise and overwhelm their enemies. In addition to their exceptional combat skills, the Eagle Guards were also known for their loyalty and dedication to the royal family. Druktse is a hub of cultural and religious activities, with several monasteries and temples located throughout the city.
The most famous of these is the Tashicho Dzong, a stunning fortress monastery that serves as the seat of The Gyelpa (The Duke) the secondary ruler of Druktse and the center of Druk-Ta worship. The dzong is surrounded by high walls and towers, and is accessible through a grand gate that is guarded by soldiers. The interior of the dzong is a maze of courtyards, chapels, and offices, all connected by narrow passageways and staircases.
One of the most impressive features of Tashicho Dzong is its towering central fortress and monastery, which rises above the rest of the complex and can be seen from miles around. This fortress is home to the Dragon Priests and is one of the most important structures in Jangshun. The fortress monastery is also famous for its beautiful architecture and intricate artwork. The walls of the courtyards are adorned with colorful murals and paintings, while the chapels are filled with statues and other religious artifacts. Visitors to Tashicho Dzong can tour the complex and learn about Jangshun history and culture, as well as observe the daily routines of the monks who live and work there. The Monastery is open to the public during certain hours of the day, and visitors are advised to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the chapels. Even though the current royal family of Jangshun are connected to The Father, The Dragon holds a special place in Druktse.
The people of Druktse are known for their warm hospitality and their strong sense of community. They celebrate several festivals throughout the year, including the annual Tshechu festival, the 3 Gods Festival which features colorful dances and rituals performed by monks and laypeople.
To the north-east of the Kingdom lies the second biggest city in Jangshun, the city of Lhagyal, often called “The Fire-proof City”
Lhagyal is a mass of stone walls and buildings with precious little wood being used at all, the walls of the city are imposingly high and even the central palace is relatively flat and does not rise above the walls, there are 4 gates made of pure steel and those are the only entrances and exits.
Inside the city walls, the streets are narrow and winding, with tall, tightly packed buildings constructed from rough-hewn stone. The architecture is distinct, with flat roofs and ornate metal doors decorating the doorways and windows, many of the buildings are built into the city's walls, their backs resting against the ancient stones.
There is more to the city than what meets the eye. Beneath the streets lie a labyrinth of tunnels and catacombs, built for both practical and spiritual purposes. Some are used for storage or as escape routes, while others are filled with ancient artifacts and sacred relics. The catacombs are also home to a complex network of underground temples and shrines and busy streets that are home to underground residences and businesses.
Despite its rugged appearance, the city's architecture is a testament to its resilience. It has withstood numerous attempts at invasion over the centuries, including attacks by powerful enemies armed with the latest in siege weaponry. The city's fortifications are a marvel of engineering, designed to withstand even the most devastating attacks and yet, for all its defensive prowess, the city has never lost sight of its cultural heritage.
The most famous instance of this was when the neighbouring Confucian Kingdom of Jinyun attempted to invade Jangshun with its impressive military might, scores of loyal foot-soldiers hardened by decades of conflict and advanced siege technology that included weapons that used fireworks.
The city withstood months of warfare with Lhagyal earning its nickname of “The Fire-proof City” The stone structures withstood the fireworks and the hard rock of the walls withstood the Jinyun catapults, outside the city several guerilla efforts by the Eagle Guards, The Company of the Hand and The White Tigers from Monyul lending their support repelled attempted on-foot invasions by the hardened Jinyun soldiers.
In the south-west of Jangshun, near the borders of Monyul and Taishigang lies the town of Gyalpeling, a place revered by monks and pilgrims alike. Gyalpeling, meaning "Abode of the Victorious" is a small yet vibrant town located in a remote corner of the kingdom. Its strategic location, surrounded by imposing mountains and blessed with fertile lands, has made it a crucial hub for spiritual activities and monastic life. The town is centered around a grand monastery, which serves as the heart and soul of the community. The monastery, known as Samtenling Monastery, is a majestic complex of ornate buildings adorned with colorful murals, fluttering prayer flags, and the sound of chanting monks echoing through the air. It is a revered place of worship and learning, drawing scholars, practitioners, and seekers of wisdom from far and wide. The streets of Gyalpeling are lined with modest housing for monks, adorned with intricate woodcarvings and colorful paintings. The locals, known for their warm hospitality and deep reverence for Tonpa, every activity the townspeople engage in helps the monastery in some way, whether trading, farming or craftsmanship, every resident of Gyalpeling helps out the monastery in some way. The town also boasts natural hot springs, believed to have healing properties, which attract pilgrims and visitors seeking solace and rejuvenation. The pristine rivers and lakes surrounding Gyalpeling add to its enchanting beauty, serving as places for meditation, ritual ablutions, and scenic walks. Gyalpeling is not only a place of spiritual significance, but it also serves as a center of learning, with numerous scriptoria, libraries, and meditation caves where monks engage in intensive study, contemplation, and meditation, prospective monks come from all over the 5 Kingdoms to study in Gyalpeling, as monks educated within its walls are valued in any court of the Tonpa Kingdoms.
One of the most valuable cities in Jangshun isn't far from the capital, a short 1 hour horse ride east of Druktse stands the city of Jangtse, a jewel in the crown of the kingdom. Jangtse, meaning "Silver Peak" in the local tongue, owes its fame and prosperity to the rich veins of silver that run through the nearby mountains, making it a thriving center for mining and trade. At the heart of Jangtse rises a magnificent conical palace, known as Jang Potrang, or the "Silver Palace." The palace, glistening like a beacon atop the tallest hill in the city, is adorned with silver-plated roofs, walls, and pillars, reflecting the sunlight and casting a mesmerizing glow over the surrounding landscape. It serves as the royal residence, where the Count holds court and conducts affairs pertaining to the area between Jangtse and Druktse. The streets of Jangtse are lined with buildings that boast silver-plated facades, creating a surreal and shimmering sight as one walks through the city, often shining gold from reflecting the sunlight, the wealth of the city is evident in the intricate silver filigree work that adorns windows, doors, and rooftops of temples, mansions, and markets alike. The silversmiths of Jangtse are renowned for their craftsmanship, producing exquisite silverware and jewelry that are sought after by collectors and traders from distant lands. The city is a bustling center of commerce, with a vibrant market square where merchants from across the region gather to trade in silver, gemstones, textiles, and other precious goods. The sounds of bartering, laughter, and the clinking of silver coins fill the air.
The Armies of Jangshun are known for their ferocious foot-soldiers, the every-day rank and file soldiers of the Jangshun armies are regarded as the best in the region and are a feared prospect to face on any battlefield.
The soldiers of the army of Jangshun are highly disciplined and skilled in the art of warfare, and are renowned throughout the region for their courage and loyalty. They are trained in a variety of weapons and fighting styles, including archery, swordsmanship, and hand-to-hand combat.
It is said that the success of the army comes from the fact that many men and women who fight in it are from mountainous regions and are conditioned from a young age to move over mountainous land with ease, their armies can easily traverse land that would be impossible for normal armies to travel over, due to the fact that the soldiers know the land.
The army of Jangshun is led by a commander-in-chief, who is appointed by the common foot-soldiers and is responsible for the overall strategy and tactics of the army. Under the commander-in-chief, there are several generals and officers who oversee different units of the army, each with their own specific roles and responsibilities. The soldiers of the army of Jangshun are equipped with a variety of weapons and armor, including shields, helmets, and chainmail. They are also skilled in the use of traditional weapons, such as the da and the gochu, which are types of swords. In addition to their skills in battle, the soldiers of the army of Jangshun are also highly respected for their loyalty and devotion to their ruler and country. The longswords cleaved through the invading forces lack of armor and their steel plates deflected blows.
Monyul

Several villages surround the lake, mostly fishing and farming communities, every spring fishermen from these villages make their way to Gangri Thang with hundreds of fish, hoping to hock their catch to fishmongers, tourists and Company of the Wind officers.
The fish they carry is mainly the several species of trout that live in the lake but a few of the lucky ones carry the Golden Mahseer, a gleaming fish variety that is said to be very difficult to catch, although the taste of the fish pales in comparison to the trout, the Golden Mahseer is revered for its scales that give off a vibrant golden glow, these scales are often used in ceremonial dress of the region adoring clothing and jewellery.
