2023.05.30 22:41 NachoNachoDan Tiny Fish Co - rockfish in sweet soy
I was excited to have found three out of the four tiny fish company varieties locally.
I tried the mussels last week and they were just OK. Nothing special. Nothing horribly offensive either, just OK.
I had much higher hopes for the rockfish.
I sautéed up some mushrooms, scallions, and tossed them in some Momofuku scallion and soy noodles then put the rockfish on top.
First off, it looks like absolute hell. Yeah it’s the color of soy sauce. What do you expect. But man it just does not look appetizing. This carries forward to eating it unfortunately too. The fish was dense but dry. The flavor was of soy at one point but also of just sort of general fishiness. The fish flaked easily into chunks when forked and sort of blended in with the mushrooms in a manner that made it hard to tell what I was about to stick into my mouth at any given time. Let’s just say I was constantly hoping it was a mushroom.
In the end I finished the bowl but would’ve been much happier had I left the fish off
Never again.
I’ve still got a tin of the smoke Geoduck left to try and now I’m scared.

2023.05.30 21:58 Glopuss Supermarket (Coles & Woolworths) specials May 31 - June 6
A selection of items “on special” this week in Coles and Woolworths that may be of interest to some keto followers. Most are processed so not really suitable for “clean keto”.
Victorian data, some may not be available interstate. Alcohol (except no carb beer) excluded. Drink prices exclude recycling deposits. If you are doing an online order, also look at the stores' ONLINE ONLY specials as I don't always include all of these, many are multibuys.
‘Locked prices’ might now be considered specials as unlocked prices have increased, but same every week til July so not included as ‘specials’. COLES

2023.05.30 16:19 BusinessWes [Online][5E][ET][UTC-4] "The Stranger'' Cosmic Horror Campaign Seeking Players. High production value. Professionally Streamed & Recorded. (Post 3/4)
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/lfg/comments/13gfsqa/online5eetutc4_the_stranger_cosmic_horro (graciously reviewed and approved by the subreddit mods)
This is Post (3/4), we're posting this four weeks in a row before making final picks. Preface This is a long post - crazy long even. That's because we care so much to find those just as impassioned as we are about this amazing hobby. We love high quality D&D campaigns, and we believe it takes effort and time to make it happen. If you take the effort to get through learning about us in this post, reading every word with care and interest, we will do the same with your application. Our commitments: - We will respond personally to each and every application, giving constructive feedback and/or move you to the next stage!
How to Apply - Application Link: https://www.avarra.world
- Promo Video: https://youtu.be/RbfQWegafX8
- Sample session: https://youtu.be/FDNHxkNXM5Y?t=13120 (We're doing something new for the next campaign, and while not quite full-effort, this is a closer example of what we're going for)
- Ask a question about the lore or world in the comments! And we'll respond in character (from one of our many current character). Thumbs us up or down this post, interact to help us be visible!
- The rest are provided after application has been submitted.
- Need to get in touch privately? My discord is Wes#8045.
World Preface In the enchanted realm of Avarra, where high magic weaves its intricate web through the fabric of existence, a burgeoning form of sorcery takes root. Secluded on the island city of Crowperch, the pursuit and mastery of void magic are richly rewarded, enticing arcanists from the farthest reaches of the world to unravel its mysteries. Yet, the enigmatic allure of Crowperch extends beyond the arcane; a diverse tapestry of industry, history, and craftsmanship entwines the island's very essence.
Beneath the surface, the island's riches reveal themselves: the mines and quarries, abundant with untapped potential, and the surrounding seas, offering bounties from the ocean's depths. Ancient archaeological sites whisper secrets of bygone eras, while artisans ply their remarkable skills on the bustling city streets. Tales of a long-forgotten, rumored treasure continue to captivate the imaginations of adventurers and sightseers alike.
But one must pay a steep price for this wealth of opportunity and intrigue. It is wise to avert one's gaze from the iron grip of autocratic rule and the unyielding scrutiny that looms over the island's denizens. For those who venture to Crowperch, a single obligation remains: seek your heart's desire, and then depart – for the island's enigmatic embrace is not meant to last forever.
Application Overview In this sacred fellowship, we stand steadfast in the face of the dreaded D&D group killers. Our commitment to this game is unwavering, for it is not just a hobby, but a way of life - an appointment that must be kept at all costs. For us, the work does not end with character creation or worldbuilding. Nay, we strive for a deep understanding of each character, for their hopes and dreams, their fears and flaws, so that we may weave a complex and enthralling campaign that will leave you breathless. We implore you, dear adventurer, to show up regularly and with a burning passion in your heart. Let your excitement be infectious, let your dedication be unwavering.

Investment This campaign is getting some big investment. All players will get custom commissions of their characters, animated. Additionally, we are commissioning all maps, tokens, flairs, and elements to make this truly something special.
Campaign Preface As twilight descended upon the restless sea, the ancient ship, Her Royal Rose, creaked under the weight of its cargo. Its passengers, a motley assortment of scholars, fisherman, guard and others with business on the island of Crowperch, sit tightly in cramped quarters. Even as the tempestuous winds moaned through crevasse and open windows, the opportunities and tasks that beckon them to the island keep them going, a siren's call that drowned out the ocean's roar.
The skies above were an oppressive tapestry of writhing clouds, their tendrils suffocating the last vestiges of daylight as if to obscure the path to the island. A shroud of mist swallowed the horizon, leaving the ship to navigate through a nebulous labyrinth, its destination only guaranteed by Captain Alaric Thorne.
As Her Royal Rose inched closer to Sove, the air grew heavy with mist and sea salt which deposited itself gradually on the railings, sails and masts. Little Henry Williams, the ship's messenger runs throughout the halls pattering on each door, "The captain has an announcement, all to the deck. The captain has an announcement, all to the deck." The clacking of his wooden foot pattering one after another with each step, a disfigurement he earned while working aboard Her Royal Rose.
Captain Alaric Thorne stood on the deck, the salty wind tugging at his weathered features. His voice rang out, its timbre heavy with authority and unease, as he addressed the gathered passengers.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I must bring to your attention an unfortunate turn of events. It seems the Saturation has arrived earlier than anticipated this year. As many of you know, this phenomenon causes an unnaturally heavy accumulation of salt in the air, resulting in deposits that weigh down our vessel."
He paused, letting the gravity of the situation settle upon his passengers before continuing, "This unexpected occurrence has forced us to halt our usual schedule, for the safety of both the ship and her passengers. Once Her Royal Rose arrives, she will remain anchored at Sove until the Saturation clears, as navigating these treacherous waters under such conditions would be inviting disaster."
A murmur of concern rippled through the crowd, many who were on this voyage planned their departure prior to The Saturation. The captain raised his hand to quell their rising unease. "I understand this may cause you some inconvenience, but I assure you, we will resume our journey as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, you may continue your research, tasks and exploration on the island. Sove is well stocked and very hospitable to travelers especially those displaced during our seasonal shifts."
With that, Captain Thorne turned away, leaving the passengers to ponder the implications of his words as the first tendrils of salt-laden mist began to coil around the ship, heralding the arrival of the Saturation.
In the dimly lit corners of their minds, the passengers could sense a truth they dared not confront: Their voyage to Crowperch was going to be a lot longer than they had hoped. As the ship drew nearer to the island, the shadows beneath the spires of the fortress atop the mountain loomed over the ship, casting a shadow over what little moonlight illuminated the darkness.
Technology - D&D Beyond: We own ALL books on D&D Beyond, and all of them will be at your disposal for your campaign.
- Owlbear Rodeo 2.0: This new VTT is extremely promising, and has the customization ability for us to do VERY interesting unique things. We're switching here from Roll20.
- Discord: Voice chat & messenger for our campaigns. Video is required, however is not recorded. Offline RP included!
- Obsidian: How players track the world's expanding lore, and how we the DM's keep track of things. You don't have to use this, but it's a highly recommended tool for note taking.
- Recorded Sessions: Sessions will be recorded, edited and posted online. Proceeds from monetization will be used to level up our recording, roleplaying, technology and setup, get commissions, maps and such. Players will not be paid for participation, however this is possible for the future if we grow. Sessions are recorded using OBS.
Monetization So we are still small, so monetization isn’t at the top of our list. That said, our goal is to
- Play Excellent D&D
- Donate to charity
- Re-invest to make better content and
- Compensate players to allow them to play more D&D.
How specifically that all happens is still obscured by the mists of time. By participating in this campaign players release all intellectual property created for the campaign to Roll for Impact and related brands. Please note that this is meaningless while we're still small, but consider this hopeful thinking for our success. The next campaign is getting SO much effort, so we want to stay safe.
Campaign Rules - Backstory: Crafting a compelling backstory for your character is essential for a great adventure. By providing a reason for your character to be adventuring with others and offering plot hooks for the DM to work with. Rather than focusing on build concepts, take this opportunity to create a real, relatable character. Who knows what unexpected twists and turns your backstory might bring to the campaign? So, let's get to writing - your character's fate is in your hands!
- Stats: Ah, stats - the bread and butter of any adventurer's character sheet. But let's face it, nobody likes a Mary Sue or a Jim The Commoner. That's why we're going to be rolling 4d6 drop the lowest, but with a twist! Each player will only generate one stat, which will then be compiled into one array for everyone to use. That way, you still get the fun of rolling, but we won't have any lopsided parties where one person is carrying the whole team. Because let's be real, nobody wants to be stuck playing the equivalent of a wet noodle while someone else is shooting laser beams out of their eyes. So, roll those dice and let fate decide your fate!
- Starting Level: Starting our campaign at level 3 makes sense because many classes get their major features at level 3, avoiding the issue of players missing out on the fun stuff. This also prevents weird mid-game transformations that can come from certain builds and allows for multiclass combos right out of the gate. So, let's start the adventure with confidence and balance, knowing that we've got all the good stuff from the get-go!
Homebrew - Free Feat: We're giving you an extra feat at first level, but with a catch - it must tie into your backstory or character design in a compelling way. By doing this, we hope to reduce the cookie-cutter nature of low level characters and encourage backstory development. Rather than just taking a feat because you need it, we want you to create a unique and interesting character from the get-go. So, let's spice things up and see what kind of story you can bring to the table!
- Healing Potions: Get the max benefit as an action, or use a bonus action to get the rolled benefit.
- Flanking: Flanking now grants a +2 to hit instead of advantage, and you can't flank someone if you're being flanked yourself. But that's not all - if three or more combatants are flanking a single enemy, that enemy is officially Surrounded, and you get a +5 to melee weapon attacks. So, let's get out there and show those enemies what it means to be surrounded by a bunch of hyped-up adventurers! (But remember, enemies get the same benefit too.)
- Zero HP & Exhaustion: Everyone takes the homebrew feat Battle Fatigue. This homebrew rule makes repeated downs more punishing on players in a campaign. You may be downed (Con Modifier) times before receiving one point of exhaustion. Each time this ticker fills up, reset it and add one point of exhaustion.
- Starting Common Magic Item: At first level, all characters get a common magic item of their choice. Similar to feats, this must be related to your backstory.
- Dual Wielding: RAW, DW doesn't allow you to add the modifier to the attack, so we add the modifier to the roll like a normal roll. You still get a weaker weapon, but now at least you get to get more power from the attack.
- Resurrection: (Modified Critical Role Rules) Resurrection isn't easy, folks - you'll need to pass a DC of 10 just to be brought back. But that's just the beginning. The party can all contribute to aiding in your resurrection with multiple ability checks, and even sacrifices in the deceased's name. The Dungeon Master determines the DC for each check and makes a final resurrection roll to see if the ritual is successful. The DC for this final roll depends on how many times the character has been resurrected before and how successful the contributions were. So, bring your A-game (and maybe a goat or two) if you want to make it back from the great beyond. Each resurrection adds +5 to the DC, before party contributed modifiers.
- Death Saving Throws: These are rolled privately to the DM.
- Slow Natural Healing: Characters don't regain hit points at the end of a long rest. Instead, a character can spend Hit Dice to heal at the end of a long rest, just as with a short rest. A long rest allows the use of up to half of your total Hit Dice, +1 for sleeping somewhere comfortable, +1 for having a meal/ ration. Order: The character regains half their hit dice, then they can spend their hit dice to recover hit points.
- Silvery barbs: Silvery barbs is a second level spell.
Table Homebrew - Turn Time Limits: We're keeping things moving with turn time limits, folks. Pay attention on other player's turns and avoid flipping through your PHB or counting dice ad nauseam. Exceptions are made for new players or chaotic combat, but we want you to look up spells and rules off-turn whenever possible. Slow combat leads to mental check-outs and boredom, so let's keep things snappy. If your turn takes too long, someone else will jump in front of you. It's like musical chairs, but with spells and swords instead.
- New Homebrew: If you've got some hot new content you want to play with, I'm your guy. Just slide into my DMs and let me take a look. Now, I'm not saying I'm gonna approve everything - I mean, some of you are out here trying to create a race of sentient cheese wheels (looking at you, Matt) - but I'll do my best to give you clear, concise well informed ruling on it.
Scheduling - Session Length: ~7 Hours
- Scheduling Firm Up: Sessions are scheduled concretely, but we will firm up every 4 weeks on the next month's schedule for conflicts. Exceptions are always made for life events or serious circumstances. Life happens, and we understand that sometimes we or you may need to cancel. This is always fine, provided it is not regularly occurring. Our schedules are made every 4 weeks in advance. If your game days are always difficult to schedule, this may not be the campaign for you. In regards to scheduling, you must be able to open a clear line of communication between the DM throughout the week, in case of any emergency schedule changes or conflicts. If you are a hard person to get in touch with every week, again, this may not be the campaign or group for you.
Session Structure - Start: Everyone arrives to the table and calls in on Discord. Players should also take this time to open up all the required programs and have all their materials ready. We also suggest getting some snacks here too! Bonus points for a tasty beer as well!
- Recap & Warmup (30 min): After arriving and having all our materials prepared, we begin our first activity of the session: Player Recaps! We will do this every single week, and it should be a great tool for getting insight into each character’s head and getting us caught up. We may play warm up games, and roleplay challenges.
- Session (2.5 hours): Well, this is of course where the magic happens! We roll dice, we laugh, the DM laughs, the dice laugh, the dice are mimics, oh no…
- Break (30 min): These breaks do not include bio breaks or your need to use the restroom. If you ever need to run to the bathroom or refill your glass real quick, you’re good!
- Session Continued (2.5 hours): We’ll carry on through the second part of the session!
- Session Recap (30 min): We'll discuss what happened during the session, as well as what we plan to do next session, while we finalize session notes.
Playstyle - Roleplay: Get ready for some serious roleplaying, folks, because that's what we're all about. We're looking at a 70/30 split of roleplay to combat, maybe even heavier on the roleplay. It's all about immersing ourselves in the world of Avarra and telling a great story together. Sure, there may be some deviations depending on the scenarios and encounters, but we're here to communicate and engage with each other and the world on a deeper level. So, let's put on our acting hats and dive headfirst into the magical realm of Avarra.
- Hyper immersion: We're not just here to hack and slash our way through this world - we're here to really get into the nitty-gritty details. I'm talking about the flavors in each mug of ale or wine at the local tavern (because let's be real, nobody likes a bland drink), cooking around the campfire under a tree during a cool and rainy night, and even delving into the plot of that book you just picked up on your way out of town. And let's not forget about forming real relationships with your fellow characters. After all, who wants to adventure with a bunch of strangers? We're here to create meaningful connections and really bring this world to life. And to all you hack-and-slashers out there - sorry, but this might not be the group for you.
- Note Taking: The pen is mightier than the sword! And let me tell you, if you want to get the most out of Avarra, it's better to be a note taker. Especially in this next campaign! We're talking about a world that's drenched in complexity and nuance, from the setting to the story to the characters that inhabit it. And let's not forget about those intricate and subtle webs that outline the machinations of the antagonists. Oh yeah, we're going deep. But here's the deal - nothing is handed to you on a silver platter in this campaign. You're gonna have to work for it. That means constantly paying attention, working with each other, and using those note-taking skills to uncover all the hidden secrets this world has to offer. And who knows, maybe you'll even uncover some secrets about your fellow adventurers along the way. (Hey, it's possible, right?) So grab your pens, folks, because we've got a lot of worldbuilding to do.
- Teamwork: teamwork makes the dream work! We're not just a bunch of individual characters running around doing our own thing - we're building a story together that encompasses every player and character. This isn't just your story, and it's not just the DM's story. This is OUR story, and we're all playing a crucial role in it. That means you need to be a team player and work together to overcome the challenges ahead. Trust me, you're gonna need each other to survive this campaign. And hey, who knows - maybe you'll even make some lifelong friends along the way.
- Immersion: If you can be in character, you should be in character! Roleplaying is all about improv, saying yes, and going with the flow. And let's be real, the best roleplay experiences can't happen if people are constantly breaking character for no reason. I mean, that's just not good improv, folks. So, here's the deal - we expect our players to remain in character as often as possible at the table. This is theater, after all, and we need to act like we're on stage. So let's embrace our inner thespians, folks, and get ready to bring this story to life like never before.
- Rules and Terms & Conditions: Excluding homebrew, the overall rules of “gameplay” are pretty standard and in accordance with RAW.
- Milestone Leveling: You'll level up according to the story. This means that we can focus less on the grind and more on a steady progression as the story builds. And let's be real, who wants to spend all their time grinding anyway? (Not me, that's for sure. #worldbuilding).
- Table Etiquette: Be willing to listen to others and grow. I mean, let's be real - part of growing close to others and forming real relationships is learning that you can't just have carbon copies of yourself. And let's face it, none of us are perfect. So, here's the deal - emotions might flare up, idiosyncrasies might arise, and sometimes, there might be a little friction. But that's all part of being human, folks. And to be a truly good friend and player, you must always be willing to listen to your peers and adapt accordingly. I mean, that's just part of being an adult. And who knows - maybe you'll learn a thing or two about yourself along the way. (Or maybe you'll just learn that you're really bad at listening. Either way, it's a learning experience.) So let's embrace our humanity, folks, and get ready to form some real relationships at this table.
- Communication: Poor scheduling and bad communication are like the kryptonite of D&D campaigns. And we don't want any kryptonite around here, do we? (No, we do not.) So, if you're part of this group, that means you've gotta keep those communication lines open. If you're someone who likes to manipulate your availability or you're just plain untrustworthy when it comes to communication, well, let's just say that you'll be removed faster than a married paladin in a brothel. (Okay, maybe that's not the best analogy, but you get the idea.)
- Showtime: Alright folks, it's time to shine! When we all arrive at the table, it's like the lights come on and the show begins! I mean, we take a lot of pride and care with our performance here, and we treat it like real theater most of the time. (No, we don't have an intermission or a concession stand, but we're working on it.) It's okay if you're not the best voice actor or you don't have a Shakespearean-level monologue prepared. (Although if you do, please share. We're always looking for some high-quality entertainment.) What matters to us is that you tried and put in the effort. Because at the end of the day, that's what makes this campaign special - the effort and enthusiasm that we all bring to the table.
- Pay attention: When someone's consistently getting distracted it's easy to derail the immersion and fun, it's like throwing a wrench in the whole machine. And let me tell you, it's not a fun sound. That's why we have specific policies in place to make sure everyone's time and effort is being respected. And listen, we all get it - sometimes the outside world can be pretty darn distracting. (Have you seen TikTok lately? It's a black hole, I tell ya.) But here's the deal - we hold each other accountable for paying attention and staying focused, because we all want to have a good time and make the most of this campaign.
- Spotlight: Do you find yourself hogging the spotlight/air every session? Are you someone who constantly talks over others? Are you selfish about the story and really only care about where your character is going every episode? Are you hoarding all the gold and being a murder hobo? This group isn’t for you.
What We Expect & Ask of You - As the Dungeon Master, I want to make it clear that we're not just looking for players - we're looking for friends. Our aim is to build real, lasting friendships through this game. We've been playing together for a while and plan on playing for even longer. As we add more people to our community, we hope to grow together as a team!
- We don't want any satellite players here. We want active members who will contribute to the group beyond just showing up and playing.
- Honesty is crucial to us. We demand that everyone in our group has integrity not only for us, but for themselves as well. Whether it's scheduling conflicts, personal issues, or anything in between, we want friends who will be honest with each other. As the saying goes, "If you don't heal your wounds, you end up bleeding on others you might care for."
- Players are here to play, not watch. We want everyone at the table to engage with the world, the DM, and their fellow players. If you're taking up a seat at this table, you must actively participate in the story every session. You cannot sit back and listen to it.
- This campaign is meant to be challenging. It's supposed to be deep, confusing, and enthralling around every corner. There are no billboards telling you where to go next, no tutorials, and no easy modes. The intricate web being spun by the many powers of this story and world will take all of your combined minds to figure out. Our group wants a game that keeps us on our toes, so if you think you can just "fight" your way to victory, you'll be dead by morning light.
- Lastly, we love theory crafting. We want everyone to give their input and help us figure out the best moves for the group. Part of being an active player here is contributing to the campaign and helping us navigate this crazy world. So let's get ready to play and work together to make this an unforgettable campaign!
Timeline: - Stage 2 Interviews: 5/29/23-6/22/23
- Public Applications Close: 6/12/23
- Stage 3 Interviews: 6/23/23-7/1/23
- Final Picks: 7/15/23 (or as soon as possible)
- Campaign Start Date: 8/5/23 or 8/6/23
I realize this might seem like a very intensive process, however we're being very thorough. Because we have gotten so many excellent applicants, we are going to have no choice but to make some hard decisions.
Picks: - 1 Full-time Player
- 5-6 Guest Players; These will play notable NPC/PCs for dedicated sections or arcs. Arcs will be designed with YOU in mind. We might expand this list depending on how this goes with the first few people, and how many sessions it takes to close out an arc.
- (Maybe) some Alt/Guest DMs; These will voice one or more characters, recurring antagonists, etc.
Are you a dungeon master? Making campaigns like these is our passion. We love going HIGH production value, HIGH quality. If this is something that you love too and you want to dungeon master in our world, we would LOVE to talk to you. As you can tell from this post, there's not enough dungeon masters out there doing this (clearly way overboard) level of effort. submitted by

2023.05.30 00:48 goosedame Photos of menu not appearing under “Menu” tab
A local restaurant has one photo in the “Menu” tab, and it’s three years old. Two months ago, I uploaded pictures of the front and back side, sharp, cropped closely to the menu, etc.
They’re currently captioned “Menu front: appetizers, egg rolls, soups, sides, and desserts” and “Menu back (entrees): wok tossed favorites, noodle dishes, and chef specials”. (I thought the added detail would be helpful/more accessible.)
Based on
this post, I’m wondering if I would be better off captioning both just “Menu” if I want the AI to pick up on it and place it in the “menu” tab.

Briefing
Situation
[Intel Package - TBD!]()
May 20xx, People's Khanate of North Takistan
MC PMC was hired to capture and bring HVT (codename Goblin Queen) from North Takistan. Easy smash and grab, unfortunately the HVT is surrounded by major Takistani forces, for that reason we have decided to import some fancy fireworks.
But someone had to tip off customs and all of our equipment got nabbed at Mantiq. So we need to get it first, before we can even attempt to capture HVT.
For that reason we've made deal with local camel merchants and got some basic stuff and little ace, called ION vics. These will allow us to get close to Mantiq without getting shot at sight.
Criticisms about historical accuracy should be shouted down an empty can of microwave noodles.
Enemy Forces
Takistani Army - Motorized, Mechanized Infantry. Boat assets. Air assets. Location: Takistani bases across AO, including HVT villa.
ION PMC - Infantry. Air assets. Drones. Location: Scattered across North Takistan.
Player Forces
PMC MC platoon
Friendly Forces
N/A = Resupply - rescue our stuff from Mantiq
Civil/Terrain/ Weather considerations
Terrain - Hills, sand, sand women, sand children. Urban areas
Civil - Civilians present across AO. Limit collateral damage
Current weather - overcast, mild wind, no fog, 17°C
Forecasted weather - overcast, mild wind, no fog 27°C
Mission Objectives
1) Recon Mantiq docks
Use the advantage of our ION cover, to scoop out the place before engaging.
2) Retrieve impounded MC equipment
Find it, gear up, load it up and fuck off before QRF swarm us.
3) Decimate Takistani forces around Villa
Use the TV guided missiles to take out Takistani heavy assets emplaced around HVT villa
4) Capture HVT Goblin Queen
Breach HVT Villa and capture HVT Goblin Queen alive.
5) Extract with HVT
Execution
Rules of Engagement: Avoid causing collateral damage. Do not kill HVT Goblin Queen!
Mission starting time: 06:00 (about 25 minutes to daylight)
Mission makers notes
The OpFor starts friendly to us. Until you enter restricted area or open fire on them. So use it wisely to plan your attack, as we start with relatively worse equipment than Takistani.
Slotting:
Use this in your slotting comment:

2023.05.29 05:21 nerdybritishGirl Little things that help me eating less and binging less
So I just recently moved from Europe to North America. And I new I wanted to change my lifestyle here and just loose some weight (I mean I knew that I won't reach my goal until I'm going back but at least do the best I can, and especially not gaining more). And I thought I would share some thing that have changed for me so far, and what I'm doing to loose weight.
Moving helped me a lot in loosing weight. Due to the different food regulations over here I got sick a lot in the first two months and therefore I ate very little and lost a lot already. But now i finally settled and feel at home here and can finally eat properly again. One thing I took out of the last months, is how important it is to kind of shrink your stomach. Kind of like a bariatric surgery just the natural version. With eating very little the stomach gets smaller and therefore now I can't even eat as much as I used to eat.
Another big thing for me is that I really adjusted my "meal plan" to my work day and just finding a way that works for me . I don't really feel like eating in the morning and also I try to avoid eating late, as I don't really like the feeling of going to bed with a full tummy. Therefore I decided to do OMAD from now on. I prep my lunch in the evening or on the weekend (I usually prep for 2-5 days, I make one meal and just see in the end for how many days it lasts. That way i feel like I'm a bit more flexible as I sometimes don't like eating the same thing over and over and also it takes less time for me to decide what to cook). Why OMAD? I don't have to count calories, i only weight things like potatoes, rice or noodles, that way I can kind of eastimate to stay below 1500 cals. And it's just the easiest for me to fit in my schedule. But I know if I would be working in a different place it would be different. (At home I would have a small dinner but here it takes me over an hour to get home from work, so by the time I'm home I feel like it's to late for me to eat. Back in Europe it was just a 5 min Bike Ride to get home, therefore I had a lot more time actually cooking, and I didn't had to bring food to work, as we had 2 different cafeterias around.)
The other thing that I like about OMAD, I don't really have to worry about special occasions. If I plan to go out for dinner with friends, that would just toun out to be my OMAD instead of lunch. And even if it's something like my birthday, I'll take a break for a day and then maybe fast a few days later.
Fasting is a nother thing for me. Right now I usually fast about one day a week, mostly on the weekend but sometimes also during the week, depending on my schedule at work. There's no specific reason for that, but I feel good, my skin is better and especially on the weekend if I'm having a lazy day, I don't really need to eat.
And maybe the most interesting thing: how I stopped binging. Since I was little it was always a problem that my dad would eat a lot and sometimes kind of take away the food that was ment for us kids. That kind of got me into an ED, I would often feel like needing to finish fast to get enough, trying to hide special food from him... Although I don't live with my parents for 5 years now, I'm still struggling to share my food sometimes and I would binge a lot, especially on chocolate bars and chips. But over the last month I kind of had a realisation and so now this one though is keeping me from binging (or overeating in general) "The food doesn't 'run away', I'm always able to eat it in the next days but I'm not able to eliminate the calories I've already eaten." Right now, writing this down, it feels silly that such a little sentence is kind of the key to my lifestyle change right now. But it is, and it feels good. I didn't really binged at all in the last month.
In general, with all of this, I'm kinda trying to eat less without actually restricting myself and it's kind of going with the flow, making it more of a changing my mind instead of "dieting". I hope this maybe helps at least one person out there ❣️

2023.05.29 03:10 The_lurking_nopon My husband criticised DS lunchbox I make.
For context I live in my husband country, he "only" work and I do 100% of chores and children.
My special need DS (currently looking what's wrong) speech delayed started kindergarten. In my husband country there are no school lunches and parents must make a lunchbox for their child. I followed kindergarten guideline for his lunchbox (easy to eat and food child likes, no sweets) my son is very picky he eats rice, noodles, cheese, yogurt, milk, no meat beside ham, sausages and only vegetables he likes are raw cucumber and carrots. That's what I put inside his lunch, I got no complaint from kindergarten and my son eat all of his lunch.
Yesterday my husband said that my lunchbox for our are poor and bad that I should put food he hates to teach him to be less picky. He showed me pictures of "real" lunchbox that was mainly kyaraben (lunch shaped into anime characters like Pikachu) I already tried to make him eat new food he was aggressive will throw chairs and food and shouts like crazy then he would take food from fridge instead (we have child lock but he knows how to unlock it) I don't want my son to behave like that at kindergarten and I prefer to make lunch that he likes.
When I told him that his comment about lunch I made hurt me and explained why I make that lunch that way he refused to listen he got angry saying I was whitesplaining his culture that he knew better than me. Kindergarten told me that to not change his lunch because that's what DS likes eventually I can put a little portion of food he hates but that's it, they wanted to phone to my husband to explain to him but I told them not to because I know he will just get angry at me for portraying him as a bad guy.
What should I do ? Should I just pretend to agree with my husband and not change anything ?

2023.05.29 01:04 Boot-Representative I present, in no rank, 5 songs that must have made the artists feel deep emotion when they were first mastered and played through those mammoth studio speakers.
- Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb - I always liked multiple lead vocalists on one song. One thing about Pink Floyd was that MANY times the three lead singers switched roles within the same song (like "Time") but the scope and depth of this particular bit of theater has always sent chills.
- Rennaisance - Song of Scheherazade - I know that this owed a HEAVY debt to Rimsky-Korsikov, but again, after 23 minutes ending with the mammoth recapitulation of that slightly dissonant chorus, with SATB chorus and orchestra in tow, it must have been magic to hear the complete product the first time. I think ELP tried but Annie Haslam's voice was impossible to top when singing this kind of epic based on a classical theme.
- The Eagles - Hotel California - I don't like Randy Meisner's bass part as much as I want to, but did you ever notice that the best rock leads are like melodies themselves? I mean to say that I don't think pentatonic noodling can match what must have been a very cumbersome project to make those two lead guitars sing together. And the grandiose conclusion must have been intensely rewarding, internal discord notwithstanding.
- Heart - Magic Man - This is a little opera with a lyrical story that wasn't that common at the time, at least not in pop, and DEFINITELY not in the top 10 - that of a young woman being seduced by an older man, and telling her mother how helpless she is. it's a song of empowerment, and inside is something that Heart always brought to its early songs- Sex, darkness, and deceptively clever virtuosity. How brave that band was, and even the singles you know had something of that flair. Once a friend of mine and I were noticing how many songs in this period had a kind of darkness to their production. Songs like "Year of the Cat", "Miracles", some of Cher's great records with Snuff Garrett. Even one-hit wonders like "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia", When I imagine what it must have been like for "MAgic Man" to come blaring out of the studio speakers, finished for the first time, I think one word - audacious. Especially as a new artist.
- The SPinners - Mighty Love - Not their biggest hit, but there's a joy in these harmonies, a movement, a special sound that, to me, represents a peak for that kind of soul music. There's no cynicism, nothing provocative, and nothing but a tight arrangement. It feels like an epic, and it had to be wonderful to hear that sound for the first time. Phillipe Wynne, by all accounts, was something of an egotist, but who was better at preaching without invoking religion than him? I would definitely say that "Then Came You" would be 5b.
Anyhow, just talking.

2023.05.28 18:05 HelicopterMoon Living Life on Low Battery
Today, I invite you to join me on a whimsical journey through the enigmatic world of chronic fatigue syndrome, where pain, brain fog, and bed-hugging are the hallmarks of our daily quests.
Imagine waking up in the morning, ready to tackle the day, only to realise that your body has decided to play a cruel joke on you. It's like someone replaced your bones with soggy noodles, and getting out of bed feels like a herculean task. Honestly, the only exercise I'm getting these days is rolling from one side of the bed to the other. Olympic athletes, take note!
Let's talk about brain fog, shall we? It's like having a cloud of confusion follow you around, raining down forgetfulness and making simple tasks feel like quantum physics equations. I once spent an hour searching for my phone, only to realise it was in my hand the whole time. If I ever auditioned for "The Great British Bake Off," I'd probably end up making a soufflé out of socks and toothpaste. Brain fog, you cheeky trickster, you.
Now, pain. Ah, the delightful symphony of aches and soreness that serenades our bodies on a daily basis. It's like having a personal concert of discomfort, with every muscle, joint, and tendon vying for the title of "Most Creative Source of Pain." The only silver lining is that I've become a master of the dramatic limp, my signature move to let everyone know that I'm in pain without saying a word. I should start charging for performances, maybe even open a pop-up pain circus!
Getting ready in the morning has become an epic battle between my desire to look presentable and my body's insistence on staying in bed. Self care? That's reserved for special occasions, like spotting a unicorn in my garden. My hair? It's a permanent tribute to the art of bedhead chic. Fashion? Well, let's just say my wardrobe is a testament to the versatility of pajamas. Who needs matching socks when you can rock the mismatched fashion revolution?
Oh, let's not forget the adventurous world of canceled plans. I've become a master of the "Sorry, I can't make it, I've got a date with my bed" excuse. It's like my social life is stuck in a perpetual cycle of "no-shows." On the bright side, I've become the go-to person for virtual hangouts, the unofficial mascot of online gatherings. Forget "Netflix and Chill," it's all about "Netflix and Lie Down Because Sitting Up Is Overrated."
But hey, amidst the pain, brain fog, and bedridden days, there's always room for laughter. We may be in a never-ending battle with our own bodies, but we're also the champions of resilience and finding humor in the chaos. So, my fellow warriors of fatigue, let's raise our fluffy pillows and toast to the comedy of chronic fatigue syndrome. May our laughter be the ultimate weapon against the wily tricks it plays on us!

2023.05.28 09:58 uber-nien Mission type or zone idea...
Sorry I'm new to this reddit thing and I don't know if there's a similar post yet but i had an idea i want to share with the community and hopefully the idea is seen by the game developers
Okay so my idea is like a new zone where it is set underwater... It's a bit of a challenging area.
Zone ideas: 1. Underwater, so limited air duh... Similar to the low oxygen warnings but there will be areas to replenish oxygen ( maybe instantly)... Like an underwater cave where there is air pockets.
- Movement in the zone is like low gravity anomaly but with a twist ... If you hold the jump button it's like you swim upwards and if you want to head downwards you'll slowly sink...
- New enemy type, probably something like sharks and piranhas... That can freely move in the underwater area... It's like the flying enemies but these fishes are close combat types like the usual grunts. and it's not limited to just piranhas and sharks... Maybe a special sort of enemy that is similar to eels and does an electric attack.. plenty of fish in the sea to use as an example.
- Maybe also add underwater currents that will either pushback a player or increase player speed similar to the air pockets in the sand dunes but this one is not linear it's like a spaghetti noodle.
About the resources to collect there and the logistics of molly and the dropship
-Molly would be like a hybrid land and water vehicle.
-Drop ship would act normally dropping players in a dry area first then them swimming for resources or mission.
As for basic map layout it would be similar to a 'W' shape i guess.. being that players drop from dry land then enter underwater and then dry and repeating the the cycle..
Haven't really thought out the whole idea but this is what i thought of so far
Also feel free to share your own ideas of missions or zones that might be interesting... maybe the game developers might implement it who knows...(personally i just want to enjoy the game even more)

2023.05.28 05:53 crypt0crab Busans Street Food and Fake Market Heaven! Nampodong!
This past week my wife and I went over to the area called Nampodong. I heard that this place used to be the old downtown area of Busan, and that this place was well known for having tons of street food and lots of places to shop... and that was an understatement. If you like shopping and eating.. then you should definitely visit this place... and I'll tell you why..
https://preview.redd.it/zg2chhvcvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=f0ebab7a07d5c4fad73d42c9a58dfc998464174d So the whole area of Nampodong can be divided into different sections that all specialize in in their own thing. Some areas had a plethora of street food, with a little bit of shopping, while others were vice versa.
First we'll start with food
If you're looking for street food, then check out Bupyeong Kkangtong Market. This area had TONS of street food, and at night they get even more after they set up their night market! Here you'll find endless amounts of restaurants and food stalls selling dishes that you're probably already familiar with, while at the same time selling others that'll leave you scratching your head wondering what they are. But the food over here didn't disappoint.
First off, we went to a restaurant that specializes in bean curd and glass noodle. We ordered this bean curd pouch soup dish that comes with fish cake, as well as a glass noodle bibimbap dish... that tastes like bibimbap but with noodles instead of rice. The bean curd pouch dish was 100% worth trying, while the other was just so-so in my opinion.
https://preview.redd.it/qh7a0hghvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=78832fa3990f9be8f07ea36216fc892f89799bfa https://preview.redd.it/txwigiwgvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=5cd70479ae56721fce0c97308dfcca1a574c5836 Next we went for dukbokki. I'll be the first to say it, I'm not the biggest fan and although I know that everyone makes it a little differently, I've never found one to TRUELY stand out above all others.. until just now. This dukbokki place was FREAKIN good! The sauce tasted way better! I'll be going back again, and I'd recommend literally everyone here to try it out... and that means something coming from someone who isn't a dukbokki lover.
https://preview.redd.it/btg5p0ejvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=654f629bc3f0b19a38017899b7776d94f6690eb2 https://preview.redd.it/1edcgs4ivh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fec52d2ab6c5759003be0491bbef39c77c86006 After that we tried out a deep fried pork dish... and no.. this wasn't just any other tonkatsu or pork cutlet restaurant. Have you ever been to KBBQ and had their marinated grilled pork? Yeah thats right.. they take that pork then they deep fry it. DELICIOUS. if you like grilling marinated pork...TRY IT
https://preview.redd.it/upra1y3kvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=0a263b11d3ba940054c18998b32b5982929b7426 Now lets get to the shopping
The shopping areas over here are SUPER confusing, and this place will feel like you're getting lost in a maze of random stores.
https://preview.redd.it/3vy4b4olvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=aebf2695c973ed48b4efea07ed72e9d3d420b656 Gukje market is a series of around 12 buildings with interconnected allyways selling everything under the sun, with some stores selling wholesale goods at crazy prices ( but you need to buy a certain quantity) to wholesale goods, to jewlery, clothing etc. But once you've made it past some of the allyways, then you'll even find tons of korean designer fashion brands that are super cheap, a vintage market selling clothing and even used luxury goods like LV, gucci etc... and then beyond that you'll find a larger allyway that is lined with carts selling every fake name brand that you can ever think of. But this place doesnt just sell t-shirts, shoes and watches, this place even sells replica jewlery, hats, hairbands ... and pretty much everything else that you can think of if you look hard enough.
https://preview.redd.it/kzbbwmhnvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d73a88af0eaa7d8aad950699d6f8433da2feceb https://preview.redd.it/48ln5grovh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=259d9af666e4b3fe5a100159bffd23da171c712d https://preview.redd.it/5nbj497pvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=88e41f3f212a4e937d5c33c3c79c0c4a127b58df Once you've made it past this area then youll arrive at Nampodongs main street, Hwangbokro, which is their fashion street that has all the major clothing brands that you're already familar with. No explanation needed here..
https://preview.redd.it/da2x2ocqvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=21e99c23795037eb9ca5dece5b87d5f38ac68c32 And beyond here is Biff street, which is where Busan originally held its famous BIFF ( busan international film festival ). Here you'll find a star studded street, similar to that of hollywood where actors will imprint their hand and sign the tile floors.. but of course in a less glamorous way haha Here you'll find tons of other street vendors selling both delicious sweet and salty snacks. Have you ever watched the show 1 Night 2 Days or Infinity challenge? Well these 2 tv shows came here and featured both of the hottoek food vendors.. Everyone makes this korean desert a little differently. In the cheaper places, they usually fry the brown sugar filled dough snack in oil.. but these places fry them completely in sticks of melted butter... but on top of that... they even cut them open and fill them with an assortment of nuts... DELICIOUS! try it.
https://preview.redd.it/sd093inrvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=043cc9520f697059c238ddbc5ed47cba2e2588a6 https://preview.redd.it/qymuegxsvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5970ed6232ee618979a48150b918ad18c268e7b https://preview.redd.it/v66evfdtvh2b1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=a18950e457120f7a4dd362fd0a6d32a1ca91e3d1 If you'd like to see this area, I put together a video that includes directions of how to get around Nampodong, as well as info on how to get there and everything that you'll need to know about this place once you're there. Enjoy :) Bon appetite and happy shopping !

Calm analysis of battle conditions, grasping one's own condition and the enemy's ability to create an escape route If there's even a 1% chance of a counterattack, he'll have the chance to put the strategy into action.
Invincible Sword: A
A term that described Saito's remarkable swordsmanship, which was said to be one of the best in the Shinsengumi. The style of swordsmanship Saito practiced is unknown and was said to be either Mugai-ryu or Itto-ryu, but in truth it was a free-spirited style that couldn't be understood by opponents. Honestly, he is just swinging his sword around
Freely Drawn Sword: B
A sword drawing technique that can freely change forms when the user unsheathes his blade in each hand. A swordsmanship independent of form, changing in all directions from the tip of the sword. It's a specialized combat technique that makes it extremely difficult to predict where his strike will fall.
"My dominant hand? I just use whatever hand is easier at the time. Besides, if you got time to be worrying about things like that, just start cutting already."
Noble Phantasm
『Formless』
Rank: None
NP Type: Anti-Personnel Mystic Sword
Range: 1 - 9
Maximum Targets: 1
Mugyo. A special move by Saito Hajime, the man dubbed the Invincible Sword, who slices from the bottom to the top. This freestyle sword does not employ any specific form.
He approaches the target in a unique way, different than rushing in with pure speed, and his moves distort the target's perception of time and distance. He then slices up the target in an instant. Since the target assumes they are far enough away that the blade cannot reach them, they are invariably surprised to experience the flurry of cuts.
No matter what kind of melee weapon the target uses, be it spear, sword, or anything else, Saito always makes the first move from any distance, ignoring the target's reach.
"And that's why my sword is invincible!"
First-year pronoun: Boku/Ore/-chan
Second-person pronoun: Omae/Anta/○○
Third-person pronoun: ○○-chan/○○-san/○○
Method of Addressing Master: Master-chan/Master
Personality
A man with two faces: A guy with a laid-back vibe that lives up to the Shinsengumi name and a sharp eyed keen individual. Saito Hajime is not the kind of person to put on act so you can be sure both faces are true
Motivation and Attitude towards Master
The type that doesn't get too close, and doesn't push too far.
However, once he recognizes someone as his master, he will never abandon them, and will act with the master's survival as the first priority in any predicament
Dialogue Examples
I'm Saito Hajime. Call me Hajime if you want to get all friendly with me. Then again, better not.
School of discipline? Doesn't matter to me. Then again, as I am now, I might call it the peerless style.
Vice-Commander, you still… No, that's right. That's fine. You can stick to your "sincerity". I'll walk my "sincerity".
Without form, my sword is intangible. As it flows, it embodies all possibilities... That is why my sword has no equal!
Character
Saito Hajime, the third unit captain of the Shinsengumi, a police force that served in Kyoto at the end of the shogunate.
He was one of the best swordsmen in the Shinsengumi, on par with Okita Souji and Nagakura Shinpachi, but his origins and the school of his swordsmanship are unknown.
One of the few members of the Shinsengumi who fought and survived through the turbulent period of the Bakumatsu until the start of the Meiji period, and lived out his life.
His swords skills were prominent among the Shinsengumi, and the Second Unit captain Nagakura Shinpachi dubbed Okita Souji the Stalwart Sword and Saito Hajime the Invincible Sword. He was said to have undertaken many undercover missions, such as purges within the units, and one theory even states that he was a spy sent into the Shinsengumi from the Shogunate or Aizu clan.
In fact, his behavior during his time in the Shinsengumi was often suspicious, and he seems to have held a sort of special position among the ranks
He may appear to be a lovable goof at first glance, but he at times shows much shrewder, more serious side. That said, he believed in living a flexible and adaptable life not influenced by existing values, despite being a member of the Shinsengumi, which tended to hold to traditional values.
"That sounds real good on paper, but in reality all I do is stick around as long as things seem fun."
As you can see from what he says above, he's kind of a jokester, so Okita gave him the unfortunate nickname Snarksengumi.
He loves noodles, and after eating croquette soba when he manifested in the modern world, it quickly became his favorite.
"Dipping croquette in soba is such an unpretentious, yet delicious dish. It's the best."
A member of the Shinsengumi since its inception, he won Commander Kondo and Vice Commander Hijikata's trust, carried out numerous important missions, and survived many intense battles during his tenure. He later left the Shinsengumi and joined the newly formed government, living out the rest of his life into old age. Towards the end of his life, he was a man of few words, and seldom spoke about his days in the Shinsengumi. He often worked as a spy more than as a swordsman, and his solitary lifestyle where he seldom revealed his true intentions often led both his enemies and allies to see him as a man lacking a warrior's conviction.
"Well, there's some truth to all that. I kind of stumbled around from one place to another, just following my own interests. I always say that you lose when you die. If you don't die, that means you don't lose. That's the secret to my invincible sword. Or whatever."
But who really knows the truth of his actions. After all, he lived through the new era carrying a single flag—his own principle—in his heart until the very last moment of his life

Officially, he kept his distance, but among the members, he was the most trusted by Hijikata, and undertook many behind-the-scenes missions for the Shinsengumi. Due to the passage of time, they parted company, but the trust of Hijikata, the vice-captain, is absolute even after time has passed.
Keisuke Yamanami
A serious and kind person among the Shinsengumi. At first glance, they don't seem to get along well, but during their lifetime they were strangely compatible and often ended up on the same missions. He describes Yamanami as being clumsy but which one of them was really clumsy is anyone's guess
Shinpachi Nagakura
On fairly bad terms as a matter of fact. Saito basically keeps a moderate distance from all the members, except for Nagakura.
Serizawa Kamo
Their relationship wasn't particularly good or bad. In his life, he often hung out with Okita. Saito was meant to keep an eye on him, but Okita gained his trust naturally. I really wonder about that, Okita.
Sakamoto Ryōma
By the way, i didn't kill Sakamoto.
Okada Izō
Izo the man-slayer... I have to admit that his swordsmanship is impressive, but his social skills need some work
Comment from Illustrator
Hajime had a very different look in the beginning. As for what kind of look, It was one that better fit a low rarity character. His final ascension still has traces of that low rarity look. His head among other things (Shin Ikezawa)
