Mostly just posting this for therapy, but also thought people might be interested to hear the variation in CES symptoms. Mine is a little different from most of the others I have read in this sub. This is my (relatively) pain-free cauda equina tale!
I had sciatic nerve leg pain for 4 months prior to getting CES. It was mild and I ignored it for six weeks before going to see a physio. They assigned stretches and did massage but things didn’t really improve. It never stopped me from doing anything, just made things more annoying/less comfortable.
In early January I woke up in the morning and sneezed. I felt bolts of pain shoot down both my legs, and struggled to get up. I had three days of 5/10 pain in my lower back when I moved around, but icing and an electric blanket helped and I went in to work on the fourth day.
The following day I sneezed again, and went right back to square one. 5/10 pain, hard to get up, couldn’t sit, pain all in the lower back and tailbone.
On advice from Healthline I went to see the after hours doctor who tested my muscle strength, gave me muscle relaxants and codeine and told me that if the pain persisted for more than six weeks I might want to get my discs checked out.
Went home, did more ice and heat and two days later was well enough to walk to to the supermarket and carry my groceries back.
That evening a hot, burning, bruised pain started in the backs of my thighs, a consistent pain where the other had always been movement related. When I went to bed I had to take a codeine to sleep, and I woke up as soon as it wore off (about 2.5 hours later).
At around 5.30am I noticed numbness in my mons pubis. The sensation was just gone. No tingling, not coming and going, absolutely nothing.
I immediately knew I was in trouble, because every single medical professional I had seen about my leg/back pain over the past four months had stressed to me, if you ever have numbness, tingling, incontinence, call the ambulance right away. No one had ever said cauda equina syndrome, but they were all so consistent and emphatic and clear. And that really helped, because I was so reluctant to call for help. Being scared, not wanting it to be serious, not wanting to take up resources if it wasn’t serious.
Once I ended up at the hospital I had a pretty speedy journey. Saw a doctor within an hour at ER, they pretty quickly checked if I could pee (no), did some more checking (iykyk), and then it was MRI time. From arrival at ER to going into surgery it was about 7 hours. I was so lucky and am so grateful.
I’m 5 months out from surgery now, and doing okay. Some numbness in my right heel, thigh, both buttocks and slightly beyond. I have a little limp. My tailbone hurts when I sit for too long or in a hard chair. I was horribly constipated for weeks, but have pretty much found equilibrium now. I’ve never really had any pain post surgery (other than my tailbone).
This has been my first experience in the healthcare system and it has been an eye opener. The emergency care was fantastic, the follow up care has been non-existent. It was so scary to have an uncertain recovery, for everything to be so hard, to need so much help.
The best advice I got was to keep a diary of your progress. It helped me see the improvements that I couldn’t feel whilst in the middle of it all. Reading that a month ago it took me 20 minutes to limp to work, whereas now I’m cruising along in 10 helps me see and appreciate that things are still getting better.
Congratulations to anyone who got this far, thank you to others who shared their stories, and if you’re newly diagnosed please have hope! It is so rough in the beginning, and you just need to be patient and see how your recovery goes.

Husband is very touchy feely and I nearly verbally abused him on Sunday. To put this into perspective, we have an amazing relationship. We kiss and cuddle at night, and at times I am “all over him” before bed. I tell him he’s in most amazing man in the world, and do things he likes like cuddle his bum while he’s sleeping. We also have sex a few times a week. I am not a morning person. In the first 4 months of our relationship, he would touch me sexually in the mornings. First my bum, then boobs, everywhere, basically initiating sex. I hated it and put my foot down very forcefully. I made a rule that there’s no touching before 8.30am. At times he’s adhered to my rule… On the positive side he goes to work at about 7am, 6 days per week. Which means he doesn’t try to touch me and wake me up 6 days of the week. Well on Sunday, he was touching me before 8.30am, AND he hadn’t made my green tea which I wanted to wake up with. I very sternly said to ‘go away until 8.30’. He didn’t listen, and then I proceeded to threaten ‘touch me again and I’m not spending the day with you’. He then called me the B word and went off sulkily to make my green tea… I was in a super bad mood for about 2 hours after this. I just hate being woken up with unsolicited touching! Especially because if I allow it, it turns into sexual touching! Im half joking about the green tea thing. But everything else is serious. This is the biggest problem in our relationship. Am I being a psycho about the touching or is this valid?
TL;DR- Am I over reacting to husband touching me in the morning or is he in the wrong?

I have just made a drastic change from having a decent body I was happy with to then getting hurt or I guess finally letting a old back and neck injury take me out of being able to do heavy types of jobs.
So I kinda fell back into working less I mean by not lifting super heavy for work and straining myself all the time.
I ended up gaining belly fat and my diet really tanked.
I started a bunch of vitamins again also getting my sleep correct.
These last few weeks tho my body has went from being okay eating once a day to now needing to eat 2/3 times a day. I’m getting exhausted plus shaky after 3/4 hours of work.
I’m switching to diet to just chicken rice and broccoli for a few weeks then a cup of coffee in the morning and a cup in the afternoon. I have also noticed I have became super lactose intolerant all the sudden.
I am under a ton of stress at work and now with a mri coming up to confirm my back issues and maybe surgery. Im guessing that might play a roll and also the amount of pain im in daily right now.
I think there is a lot of questions in here but I’m not sure where I should start.

I started working at Safeway in 2016, starting out with a pay of $11.50 ($2 above Washington states minimum wage in 2016). I worked at the same store for 4 years then transferred to another store for college but would temporarily transfer back during winter break. From 2016 to 2020 my pay went from $11.50 to $16 (increasing due to Washington raising minimum wage each year). The one time I asked for a raise was at the end of 2019 when a new hire was making $1 more than me with no produce experience (he was making $13.50 I was making $12.30). Since then I never asked for a raise as I believed I was being paid a fair wage.
When I transferred to my new store I didn’t transfer into produce as they had enough employees. I got moved to DUG since it was new and they needed workers. I would take some produce shifts if someone called out but I mainly worked in DUG from the end of 2019 to 2021. When I transferred to that store I was making $16 (a bit over minimum wage).
I finally left the company after being burnt out from riding the bus for an hour everyday in December 2021. I got hired at whole foods in February of 2022, expecting to make at least $18 or even $17, they hired me in produce for $16. I would work for a few months until December of that year after they wouldn’t let me go back home for winter break, like I always do, because it was during a “blackout week”.
I would finally return to Safeway at the start of this year after not being able to find work. I tried getting a produce position since its what I have been doing since 2018 but no positions were available so I got hired as a checker. I asked if I could make more than $16 but they said $16 was what they start checkers at and I didn’t have any experience in that position. I was reluctant since rent increased but I went with it. I soon found out a new hire who has worked for Safeway for 3 months in the same position was making $18. I understand that they had 3 months more experience as a checker than I do but they said they started at $18.
During my years with the company I helped out in numerous departments with their work (liquor, bakery, deli and sco) while also helping my produce manager with orders, signs and trainings. I used to make $1-2 above minimum wage but now I only make a few cents above it which doesn’t feel too fair to me.
I’m transferring to my original store in a few weeks, do I bring up getting a raise or even a managerial position to the store leads?

I have been taking care of myself for 1 year with my daughter who sleeps fatally. a good night he wakes up 3 or 4 times... a bad night (he has a whole bad week every month) he wakes up about 8 or 9 times in one night. my husband is on vacation and he said it would help if i weaned the baby at night. her point is that the baby screams twice as loud when she tries to help at night and cries until she is handed over to me and I feed her. So, it's not what I wanted to do, but I can understand frustrating my husband. Allow me to be a whiny 22 yo (f) for once.
I miss (old) high school specifically. I feel like nothing was finished there, and like I still need to go back to get a diploma I've already gotten. I felt safe and able to be myself there, and had a lot of freedom. I think my mother abruptly withdrawing me because I didn't deserve school halfway through junior year when I planned to dual enroll really messed me up
Even when I graduated from another after being kicked out and begging to go back to school to finish without a guardian, I was celebrating for others. I didn't feel like I graduated at all-like that school haunted me. And I didn't belong in (old graduated) as an independent adult. It was hard and I didn't fit in, and I was such an anomaly that the teachers were afraid cause they had no leverage over me. I ran the school... And there was absolutely no challenge.
Being in (old highschool)... I was challenged every day. To develop social skills, to get better at multiple subjects. My hunger for knowledge truly shined and grew there, and in between I had time and energy to obsess over whatever passion I had at the moment.
I hated every second of it then, and felt I was above them and desperately wanted college... But college doesn't care about you like they did. They don't care at all. Everything they do is for a paycheck-if you fail that's on you. You must figure it out on your own. Back then you could go to someone and say "I don't understand this" and they would help you the most they could. Back then they listened. Everyone listened, even the bullies.
I miss being able to have the time, location and energy to be myself. I miss having a clique of friends who got me. But I'm now a mom, in a terrible economy... I have no time to obsess over things, and even if I did obsessing isn't normal anymore-it's unhealthy. I don't feel comfortable anywhere enough to be me, always masking to be whoever people need me to be. I'm sick with gerd, and lots of other things because anxiety has made my immune system take a nosedive, so I can barely eat and work full-time= absolutely 0 energy. And everyone is too busy or angry for me to actually have a fulfilling friendship with them. I'm not even in college anymore-dropped out 4 courses before id graduate with my bachelor's.
I honestly just want the reoccurring dreams to stop. It's in the past. I'd love to leave it there. But I'm still hurting from it.

I'm 5'3. Most people I play with are around 3-4 inches taller than me. Whenever I try to create space, I never get separation. They're either too fast, too strong, or just too long that I can't get space. Any way around this?

So yesterday I loaded into Al Mazrah again with 2 squadmates assigned to me by squad fill.
Why do I do this? Because apparently I’m the type of guy that keeps thinking the glass is half full, even though at this point someone has downed the contents and smashed the glass into my face.
My initial assessment of my teammates was twofold; though they did not seem to communicate with me, they were obviously working together, and did not seem to mind taking me along on their ride. Wherever it was destined to go.
We all had the classical 1-plate-no-gear start and spawned in the Al Mazrah sandstorm. Though my squad started off by running into some random buildings, they soon started spamming markers in the middle of the radioactive zone. Ah, the chemist then. Okay, let’s do it.
Before we can really start looting for a bit of gear, they bring up a chop top and sound the horn incessantly. They seem to have a plan and are in a hurry.
Though I didn’t have time to look for a gas mask, plates or plate vests, I hop in. I know you can loot gasmasks off any NPC in the zone, and otherwise I can always sit back and see if I can discover whatever it is my teammates are planning - and join them once I understand their strategy.
My teammates drive toward the zone with determination and speed. To my surprise, though, they don’t stop at the edge of the radiation zone, but drive straight in to the very center. Uh, do they know I don’t have a gask mask? Besides, aren’t we all 1-plated? They must have a plan.
Upon arrival though, we note a group of about 12 to 15 heavily armoured AI’s directly surround the Chemist, and my teammates, like me, dare not open fire for fear of getting insta wiped. The chop top is, of course, DDOS’d and unusable.
The radiation is killing us though. All three of us, or so I notice now. My teammates didn’t have any gas masks either.
Already half dead, I desperately look for an AI to kill for a gas mask, but the only AI’s around will take emptying a full mag into them to kill them, whilst being able to kill me by snapping their fingers at this point.
I try to run to safety, but we are in far too deep to consider that way out. Panicking, I look to my teammates; surely they had a plan with all this, right?
One of my teammates has gone hiding in a house, making sure those high level bots won’t be able to kill him, probably forgetting or blissfully ignoring that the radiation will do so anyway mere moments from now.
The other one, even though the radiation has almost killed us at this point and there’s only about 6 seconds to live, thinks that this might be the best time to start activating the local UAV tower.
In my dying moments, I reflect on my life choices. We die right there in the radiation zone without any of us having fired a single round.
