2023.06.07 07:01 Storms_Wrath The Human Artificial Hivemind Part 381: Grand Defense Proposal
First Previous Wiki "It is quite obvious that we need to reconcile the first point," Hive Empress Ashnav'viinir said. Her hologram moved into the central podium, stepping up and around it towards a microphone she didn't actually need. And her script was scrolling on the inside of the virtual reality helmet she was wearing.
"If this partnership is going to succeed, that will require the ability for members to choose which wars they want to enter, as well as whether they wish for others to enter theirs. I think it is a sensible request, as I am sure that everyone gathered here can attest."
She looked over the smattering of representatives from the Alliance in particular, trying her best to be sympathetic. Since the Alliance was somewhere between a federation and a full nation, it had led to there being many representatives instead of one. Most of them, surprisingly enough, was from the Guulin Congressional Republic and the High Researchers' Council. Even some wanderers were present, though their numbers were the absolute smallest.
She'd studied the situation there, with how fractured their species was. It would be interesting to see how the Alliance handled that, long-term and short-term. She got the feeling that the most words from the Alliance would come from the human representatives, of which there was no small number.
"The Sennes Hive Union agrees with the sentiment," a Truth Speaker said, while Kawtyahtnakal and Eyahtni simply signaled their assent.
A Knower stood after the Alliance's officials sent messages among themselves.
"We agree. There is to be no central authority to this proposed organization."
Ashnav'viinir bent her antennae forward, rubbing them against the inside of her helmet to relieve an itch. The others looked at her, and she decided to add some of her points.
"I think there should also be set requirements on the conditions of a war. It would not make sense for a nation to call a vote if one planet's governor sent a few ships to raid another."
"It is likely the task of subsequent negotiations to consider such," Eyahtni replied. "I think that this conference's purpose should be based on a series of points to tackle. First is whether we are to establish this treaty organization at all. Second is how to maintain it over the vast stellar distances involved in our three nations. The third is to fortify it against manipulation from smaller parties within prospective states, such as overzealous nobles or disgruntled diplomatic officials.
Fourth is establishing lines of communication that are official and constantly available between military, intelligence, and governmental authorities. The fifth is to discuss provisions for additional alterations later down the line, to be agreed upon by all members. And the sixth would likely be what actually constitutes an attack upon a nation that is a signatory to the treaty to form this organization.
Furthermore, perhaps not as actual points within the treaty itself, but within the Alliance, is how to treat it as an entity. Functionally, the Alliance is a federation of hundreds of nations, from the ship-states of the wanderers to the massive empires of the Acuarfar. The Alliance constantly straddles the border of true nationality, yet its own nations themselves are sovereign in terms of their rulership, treaty obligations, commercial pacts, research agreements, and otherwise. Conversely, wider agreements made by the Alliance also exist, ties that so far have not been broken by either group.
While I am sure that there are reasons for the many nations in the Alliance to continue to have their own sovereignty, there is little appetite within the Sennes Hive Union to negotiate over 200 individual treaties, navigating the potentially millions of other combinations of changes and shifting coalitions within their own groups. It is not today that the answer to the question of the Alliance's nationhood must be decided, but it must be at some point. The only functional way for such a treaty like this to be realistic for the Hive Union, at least, is for the Alliance to either become a single national entity or to be treated as such within this treaty."
"The Vinarii Empire agrees with Regulator Eyahtni's sentiment. While we are not necessarily requesting that the nations of the Alliance give up their sovereignty, there must be a degree of reasonability here. If a small island nation on Earth were to declare themselves a part of the treaty and possess no ships to actually send aid, all they would do is to add unnecessary bureaucracy to this treaty's usability."
Calanii continued speaking.
"And realistically, for the Alliance to provide assistance to us and us to it on a reasonable time frame would require specialized complexes within deep space, fully staffed, supplied, and defended. Because for the Hive Union and the Vinarii Empire, we are both too close to our system capacity for the Sprilnav to let us occupy a single new one. And it must also be asked what your rules of war shall allow. Realistically, most of our forces operate under much looser rules of war than yours do, mostly out of necessity.
When a single weapon is a difference between a planet becoming a molten sea or a continual production facility for an enemy, with or without civilians or massive losses of life, the question must be asked. We are not asking to be given free rein to kill humans as we please or the associated species of the Alliance. But even within your own various nations, your agreements on rules of war vary. Geneva Conventions, Dawn Accords, Devourer Codes, and so on. Each varies on the treatment of prisoners of war, captured cities, captured planets and space stations, and war doctrine.
For example, the Geneva Conventions prohibit us from filling an enemy ship with gases that are poisonous and unable to be scrubbed by atmospheric filters. And the Dawn Accords prohibit the use of any and all resonance weaponry, including items such as Hypershock Emitters, which are items used to quickly incapacitate unprotected enemies that have carapaces. Expecting us to abide by your rules of war and be tried in your courts for disobeying them would be disagreeable if we were the ones calling you to aid. At least for the Vinarii Empire, I am willing to have my soldiers operate by your rules of war only for disputes within the Alliance's territory or claimed nations' territory. But my forces would still reserve the right to withdraw themselves from courts and the like."
Ashnav'viinir saw some of the officials among the Alliance nod their heads in agreement while others seemed less happy about the proclamation. She didn't know the names of all the countries that had attended here today, but there were a lot of them. She wondered if the humans would do some sort of coalition agreement, where they might have one nation provide a ship, and the smaller ones provide soldiers and weapons. That didn't seem very useful since the actual most powerful nations on their planet were generally the most populated as well.
She watched them argue amongst themselves about the proposal. It seemed that there weren't a lot of people on one of the sides, and most seemed neutral. She also noticed a lot of them were calling other people, likely national leaders. Eventually, one human came forward.
"For the purposes of drafting the agreement itself, assume that the Alliance is a single national entity. However, this may be subject to change prior to the signing of the full agreement."
Ashnav'viinir understood that. She could somewhat see the sheer amount of human nations that would make such a thing difficult. And she noticed that they did not ask to link the Sol Alliance, as mentioned for the actually proposed organization, to the general entity as it existed between the various worlds and star systems represented here. Simply put, the Alliance actually being referred to would be the nations that agreed to be part of the organization, not necessarily all nations in the actual Sol Alliance.
Calanii stood, turning to face the humans with a neutral expression. "That is workable. Adding a provision to this would be necessary, allowing nations to join and leave this proposed arrangement as it suited them, but not so often as to be problematic. For this, I propose a period of three Vinarii standard years between the acceptance of an application to the treaty organization and the ability to leave the organization again. For a nation that has left the organization, from the moment of their removal, another three standard year period before they can resubmit an application. Finally, a submitted application can be withdrawn at any time before full acceptance into the organization.
Possible other actions, such as vetoes and deferrals, should also be subject to continued debate within future meetings. But I would say this now. If there were to be a veto power, it would be best for each large single interstellar polity, such as the Alliance, Vinarii Empire, or Hive Union to get one veto vote. The reason for this is both a stopgap measure and that of realism. The Alliance consists of hundreds of nations, and it is simply not fair for them all to get a single veto vote within this organization because it would become far too unbalanced. While there are massive population and territorial differences that would likely take hundreds of years to balance out between our peoples, an agreement that judges each of us on equal footing is the most realistic for long term success and possible future expansion, should it become necessary."
One of the humans she recognized stood.
"That is an acceptable agreement, though I would like to propose that the Alliance be allowed to decide the use of its veto through internal votes by nations or otherwise. Again, this is a massive political and bureaucratic undertaking, so we would appreciate such an ability if your two nations would be willing to grant it." Juan Pedros wasn't as young looking as she remembered. But Ashnav'viinir remembered that humans did have negative reactions to stress over long-term periods.
Though it was odd that rulers of thousands of interstellar systems were effectively negotiating with a few advisors and representatives at a star system level or lesser. Technically, even assuming Humanity was the sole ruler of the Sol system, they were divided into three main sections, meaning that there wasn't a single person who controlled the system. The decentralized nature of the Alliance would have to change in the far future, and she knew that both the Vinarii Empire and the Sennes Hive Union would push for it in the coming years.
"We have no problems with your suggestion," Kawtyahtnakal replied.
"Nor do we," Calanii added.
"I am also concerned about the standpoints of individuals within the Alliance," an advisor from the Hive Union stated. "The Alliance derives a great deal of its economic and military power from entities that do not answer to its regional governments, and that are not national entities themselves. Individuals like this, in particular artificial intelligences such as Phoebe and Edu'frec, represent points of concern within our legal firms. There have been some who worry that forming agreements with these aforementioned entities might create a negative response from the Sprilnav.
And for some entities such as Brey and Gaia, their abilities are incredibly valuable but are not possible to regulate. There is nothing to stop Brey from deciding that she doesn't want to do what the Alliance needs her to do in the event of an operation that she does not agree with. A method of preventing these situations from doing catastrophic damage to any potential aid operations or joint operations is likely needed before this organization can be fully ratified."
Ashnav'viinir looked at Kawtyahtnakal to see if he agreed. And it seemed that he did.
"Well, there are several solutions to this," the UN Security Secretary said.
"For one, this possibility is known to us. We have transport ships of sufficient number to transport our supply lines and military communications equipment to where they are required."
"Is it well maintained?"
"Yes. Though it is not the cheapest to do, the lines are maintained by automated androids and both virtual and real workers that check the equipment and conduct inspections."
"This brings to mind another concern. In order for this agreement to function long-term, it would likely require the actual consent of Brey, Phoebe, Edu'frec, and Gaia, as well as the Human Hivemind."
"That has been obtained already. Each of them have already anticipated this question to come up, and have given their complete agreement to aid the Alliance and its constituent militaries in achieving goals, honoring agreements, and ensuring the continued stability of its allies, if requested to."
"That is good to hear. In that case, are we set to begin the actual drafting of the agreement?"
"Yes. However, I have important information that I am willing to share with you all as a gesture of goodwill,"
Kawtyahtnakal said. "I am sure that you all have been getting reports of Sprilnav mind-control devices present within your population. My nation has developed a method of detection that should be prudent to your concerns. It is a scanner developed using technology that is classified. However, tests have shown it is capable of providing details about Sprilnav implants within subject populations using psychic energy frequency technology.
The limits are as follows: Heavy shields prevent the scanner from achieving full efficiency and can either muffle or block entirely any signals that are going to be used for it. I would also warn you that the device would build up a very slight psychic charge on all surfaces within a wide radius. Exact specifications will be delivered to you upon request. Note that this device would need to be leased from the Sennes Hive Union and that prices would be dictated in deals."
"Why are you waiting until now to reveal such a device?" Calanii asked.
"Because this location is the safest that we have in terms of any listeners. This meeting is secured by not one, but two AIs, meaning that it is the single most secure meeting in the history of this galaxy, at least in terms of digital means. And it is also because the device is dangerous. Were it to overload, it could seriously injure people within its radius."
"Then it seems that it is not necessary for us to use," the Hive Emperor replied. "I also would assume that the Sprilnav would be aware of it, able to counter it, and able to ensure that devices like this either miss or incorrectly identify such implants."
Ashav'viinir agreed. Recently, the Vinarii Empire had located a cache of Sprilnav data in deep space. Even their farming equipment was incredibly advanced, and their swords were actually able to cut through all but the absolute toughest shields and armor that the Vinarii Empire had made. And those were regular Sprilnav swords, not those of the Elders.
"We would like to thank the Sennes Hive Union for offering this, but would like to decline this offer at this time," Juan Pedros said.
"The solution to the Sprilnav problem will likely require immense effort on all our behalves, and it would also require more advanced technology than what we have. The Alliance is also willing to provide information that would be a gesture of friendship and goodwill to all parties involved in this negotiation." He paused, taking a real-life breath before talking again.
"We now know the reason for why the Elders and Sprilnav are so tough. Physics, at least as it is understood, does not allow for Elders to be as impact and heat-resistant as they are. The reason for their actual damage resistance is because they have protectors, which provide conceptual protection to them, making it so that every attack on an Elder is less 'real,' meaning that energy transfers of any and all kinds that are perceived as negative by some unknown factor do not fully reach them. The law of equal and opposite reactions does not fully affect them either. The protection seems to be uniform, so that it allows for internal chemistry to work within their bodies."
Ashav'viinir scratched her mandibles. "Do you know the source of this protection?"
"We are aware of one of these beings. They are called Progenitors. Their estimated power means that direct assassination is estimated to be impossible."
"How do we know that you are telling the truth?" a Cawlarian advisor replied. "Such a thought has been theorized, but there is no definitive proof."
"The proof I can offer you is that one of them is named Nova. This Progenitor does not emit any psychic energy at all. And yet, he has been observed to have a persuasion effect upon Sprilnav who are near him. And he has the capability to teleport, control energy, and likely much more. Individuals like these are likely the pinnacle of Sprilnav civilization. Figuring out how to sever this conceptual protection would allow us to fight the Sprilnav on equal footing. It would also likely allow us to better understand their technology."
"And how sure are you of this?"
"I am quite sure. There is more information to tell you all, information that may concern you, Nest Overlord, in particular," Juan said, looking at Kawtyahtnakal.
"Some of what I am about to tell you all is how his revival was possible. It is also why I believe it is necessary for this treaty organization to be formed. Note that any further or highly classified information has been removed. Sharing this information will only be considered and possibly revealed to the relevant officials of your two nations upon request, with the necessary restrictions to the form of viewing in place."

Luke took a look at the model of the area. It was a large subterranean complex with only a few entrances. One of the commanders in charge of his unit was talking with their Cawlarian counterpart.
"I think I have a solution to your problem with the tunnel entrances."
"Drilling is quite noisy and loud," the Cawlarian replied. "Even the 'quiet' versions would get picked up by seismic scanners."
"Well, we're not going to use a drill. There's a species called the Junyli on one of our planets. Some of them have joined the Alliance in an official capacity, and are more than willing to help us on this venture."
"How fast can they dig, and how much damage can they take?"
"Well, the average Junyli can dig about 10 meters a second, pushing the stone out of the way smoothly. From what we can tell is happening, the psychic energy innate to them compacts around their skin and helps to make the stone more malleable, allowing it to be compressable far more easily than it should be. With a few of them in our group, we can decide where to enter from, including from the top down, dropping our soldiers into their fortifications. Or we could go from the bottom up, but that's much more likely to mess with fortifications and get us noticed. What's your call, Battle Planner Sacratta?"
Arrows had appeared when he'd pointed to placed on the hologram, showcasing possible entrance points. The other Luna soldiers were standing in a group on one side of the hologram, with the Earth soldiers on the other. They were separate for this mission since they'd trained much better in their own split groups. Luke knew Leia's mind by heart and soul. The same couldn't be said for any given Earth soldier or even Luna soldiers outside his general unit.
"It is best for the Cawlarian operatives to enter from the sky, assuming that they can fly," Commander Dexter said. "If their gear does not allow them to, then we will remain on the ground. Thrust plumes would be too visible, and the off chance of anti-aircraft fire poses a massive risk to any in the sky."
"We have a handle on that," Sacratta said. He pointed a claw at about a quarter-high section of the diagram. "Everythign above this, we can enter. It would likely be best to have the Junyli dig close enough to allow breaching of the walls, without actually going through. That way, a synchronised attack is easier even if we don't have a Junyli to accompany each one."
"What about the big one?" A separate Cawlarian asked. "The Luminary?"
"If he wishes to participate, there will be no hiding him. Assuming we can even make an area large enough to hold him, making that portal will light up on any psychic energy scanner."
"It is better to have smaller tunnel entrances for this," Sacratta added. "We're mostly going to be sending in infantry and support vehicles to clear the area. Vehicles will accompany them for additional protection and shielding, but in this case, people are the tip of the spear."
"I do warn you that without a good read on the capabilities of your own soldiers, we will not be able to coordinate to maximum effectiveness," Commander Dexter warned. "I clearly and solidly understand the need for secrecy. I'm just letting you know that the possibility is there if something gets screwed up later."
"Yes. We also have stores of gas available, though it will likely dissipate before being able to reach the majority of the underground city. We can use it to knock out some of the guards, though. The reason I bring this up is because deploying it is likely best done through tunnels from above, there the canisters can be dropped down into the fortified bunkers which likely house the most critical data."
"It is likely that some buildings that are not fortified will serve as bases as well. They might have extensive underground tunnels for either escape purposes or moving contraband and people."
Luke continued to listen to their deliberations during the remainder of the period. Eventually, they were allowed to retire to their respective rooms. He and Leia would meet tomorrow to discuss plans of their own and potential strategies for fighting the enemy. He did not have confidence in flight as any sort of quick travel method. Cawlarians being a winged species would mean they had spatial awareness much stronger than base humans.
Back when they were fighting the Wisselen, there was little concern among the enemy for aerial maneuvers. Even back when they had assaulted the last holdout on Earth, they hadn't had very much direct eyesight on any Wisselen air defenses.
As for his own activities, they entirely involved sleeping. Luke had the intention of reaching the identified objectives when the actual operation was carried out. And sleep would help his enhanced body to recover its lost energy, in addition to the nutrient paste tubes he'd latch to his injectors.
Really, he had concerns about the Cawlarians. Right now, they didn't seem to have their act together. He had barely seen any of their super soldiers, and those soldiers hadn't moved like the other Cawlarian soldiers he'd seen.
They did likely have some reinforcements, but unless they could go in and actually get serious when it mattered, then it might be on him and the other Alliance soldiers to ensure victory. With mind control, things could get very interesting. For one, it was possible to turn off pain receptors. So ensuring that every enemy combatant was dead would be very necessary for any successful operation.
Luke would be putting a bullet in the head of the people who he was fighting if his orders were to do so. It was what he was designed for, and he would carry that task out to his fullest ability. And beyond that, if needed. That was all the Alliance and Luna asked of him, and it was what he and Leia would deliver.

2023.06.07 05:59 Moses_Horwitz Inside King County Homeless Authority’s newly-approved five-year plan
... The plan outlines a three part approach to solve homelessness. This includes system-to-system connections, emphasizing partnering service providers and coordinating the network of service providers throughout King County, according to the agency.
^ I have no idea what that means.
The King County Regional Homelessness Authority’s plan could potentially cost $11.8 billion to increase housing as a solution to homelessness. This estimate stems from the Washington state Department of Commerce’s projection that 1.1 million new homes will be needed in the next 20 years.
^ Wait. What? That $12b number isn't their own? (i.e., it is made-up from other requirements, metrics, and numbers projecting onto the homeless
grift population?)
... The system-to-system aspect of the three part approach refers to better collaborations across systems including healthcare, housing, public safety, employment and education to prevent homelessness.
^ Wait. What? So part of the $12b is going to - gulp - "public safety?" Are we speaking of staffing the SPD from KCRHA? Is that a conflict of interest?
... The five-year plan mentions one challenge that may hinder its goals: front-line staff wages. Currently, staff wages average at $19.70 an hour for direct service workers and $24.92 for case managers and advocates. The agency noted that this is “significantly lower than King County’s Median Hourly Income of $40.48, and insufficient compared to the cost of living in our region.” Last year, the agency found that the five largest homelessness service providers in King County had more than 300 vacant positions.
^ Ah. Okay. The KCRHA's version of "Fight for 19+." I get it now.

2023.06.07 00:06 smokejumperbro Latest Update: legislation, pay, what is going to happen?
Where are we at? A quick update.
I’ve been busy with training season and haven’t updated much and thought I’d drop some info now.
Although it has been well documented that the current pay supplement (funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) will run out by September 30th, I wouldn’t be too concerned right now, as there are several proposals to increase our pay when the BIL funds run dry.
A lot of people were concerned about the Debt Ceiling negotiations and how that will impact our future, and I’m happy to report that our pay increase was not cut in those negotiations. This puts us in a very strong, bipartisan position to get a pay increase come FY’24. Because they could not negotiate over spending that had already occurred, the debt ceiling negotiations were focused on getting back some unspent COVID relief money, and also cutting some proposed spending in the Biden proposed FY’24 budget. I’m happy to say that the USDA/DOI Wildfire Salaries and Expenses proposed increase was not cut, and that is the best signal that both parties have agreed to fund higher salaries for federal wildland firefighters.
So we can see the pot of gold, but we don’t yet know the path we will take to get there.
What paths are proposed and are any still under construction?
Many of us know about the proposed legislation put out be the Biden Administration (USFS/DOI). You can read all about it here:
https://www.grassrootswildlandfirefighters.com/budget-proposal Another path is Tim’s Act. It has been reworked and reintroduced in the house and now introduced in the senate. Read more about it
here. The pay is largely similar to the Admin Proposal, but adds temp buyback, hazard pay reforms and more.
There may be even more options proposed between now and the “fiscal cliff” so stay tuned and buckle up. Some of these proposals are not just shakeups, but total reworking of the way we conduct business.
I believe there will be more details coming soon enough. Grassroots will be sending a few people to DC and I think NFFE will be sending some to DC as well in the coming weeks.
Hearing season has been well underway and
this year is quite a bit different than
last year. Kudos to Jaelith Hall-Rivera and the other land management folks testifying because it is night and day from last year.
Grassroots VP Riva Duncan got in on the testimony game,
sharing her expertise with the House Natural Resources Committee. They are considering a lot of stuff and there will be a lot of negotiations there as pay for firefighters is tied to passing land management reform bills most likely.
There is a lot more stuff to update, but that is the most important stuff. Lots of people out there are claiming to know more than they do, I keep hearing that “my FMO is guaranteeing that Tim’s Act will pass” kind of stuff. Nobody knows which bill is most likely to pass, and there are more to be introduced.
Let’s all stay positive throughout this process, and understand that we don’t have the option to be choosy with which senator wants to introduce legislation to fix our pay issues. We are supportive of all these bills, and the one that passes will most likely be the one with the most skilled staffers on the right committees that make compromises. I am confident that something will pass and we will be much better off next year than we are this year. Thanks everyone.

2023.06.06 21:20 Exotic-Somewhere8445 question about fair pay
hey, I’m 17 and I’ve been working at a family restaurant for almost 3 years in north Georgia. I’ve made a 2 dollar pay increase over that time being (sad honestly) as a hostess. I’m the longest employee as well. recently being short staffed apparently we are expected to do dishes without a difference in pay as well as servers are expected when we don’t have one in the mornings. My manager which is on salary (65K) has been yelling at us about it. I don’t think it’s fair to be making 10 an hour, same as all the new people as well. Is it fair to be expected to be the role of a dishwasher without dishwasher pay (15 a hour)

2023.06.06 20:59 Zealousideal_Help_21 resume review
hiya, i’m looking for another set of eyes or two to look over my recently revamped resume. i did have someone from fiverr re-hash it from an old version, so i have made some edits to it to clarify or add/take away things that i felt didn’t fit and the like. i’m at a point where i guess it’s done but it still feels very impersonal and repetitive. the formatting of today’s resume is very different from when i last did one, over a year ago now, so i am also unfamiliar with that which makes my resume feel alien to me.
is there any advice on what else i might change? how to be less repetitive without loosing examples of skills/experience? if it helps i am looking to apply to positions in customer service, but not retail like working at gas stations, or customer representative, maybe a receptionist or even something in tech? like data entry? i’m completely lost as to how my skills would translate into tech, though, and feel uncertain.
i’ve blocked out my personal information as well as the locations of my places or work/education.
thank you for taking a look, please enjoy your complimentary chocolate mint on your way out!

2023.06.06 19:39 PanicSwtchd How I learned the value of life-work balance!
Edit: shortened it up a bit and added a TL;DR; Quit job due to shitty raise after 2 years of freezes. New Job bait and switched role and ended up having ageist ladder climbing manager who sucked at their job. Got worked into the ground and had long awaited vacation cancelled the morning of...waited for manager to leave and resigned while throwing them under the bus and getting them demoted so hard they haven't changed roles/titles in 12 years.
------
I was told to crosspost my comment in another subreddit here as folks may appreciate it here. Got a solid response with the folks talking about an a-hole boss demanding an employee work over a pre-booked vacation. I'll add a bit more context here, but this was about 12 years ago when this all went down. Since then, I went back to work for a previous employer where I was unceremoniously let go for reasons (maybe another post), but have since been working for almost 10 years at another company (folks of this subreddit are not a huge fan of them but they have probably treated me the most humanely and respectfully as I've ever seen). That said...on with the story!
In 2010, after the wonderful failings of the job market leading to salary freezes and sub-par raises, I had gotten my 3 year performance evaluation at my employer at the time. After having been promoted twice, but not getting salary increases due to freezes, I received a whopping 5% increase and told "this was an amazing increase for doing so well"...Sufficed to say, I was not very happy and started shopping around. My manager was sad, but his boss told me to "do what you gotta do, no other company out there will pay you what you're saying is market". Being young, motivated, driven, and damn smart, I went out there and in under 2 weeks I had secured an interview, gone through the process and had an offer in hand. I actually got more than I was asking...nearly a 35% increase in base salary. Took the offer, stuck to my guns of not dealing with counter offers, put in my notice, worked right through to my last day and left on good terms (important later).
The new job was great, I was working in a similar role as a L2 Support Technician but for a different class of product than what I used to work on at my previous firm (middleware). Turns out it was a bit of a bait and switch because 3 months after I joined, my new employer transferred me to the sister team of the support group I was on to support the new version of their middleware product. Prior to this version, the middleware was a free service and as such, received a free service's level of support...No SLA's, Best Effort Service with a small but knowledgeable support team. It seemed like a good opportunity so I didn't complain much.
Within 3 months we were getting overrun by tickets, chats, and calls all day every day... By the end of the 7th month we had 3 senior techs leave...now it was me, my manager, 1 other senior tech and 3 fresh-faced L1 support techs who moved into our team as 'promotions' on the US Team. I had also received a fairly sizable raise and promotion despite only being there for 6 months...which I should have taken as a huge red flag...Our Asia team was down to 2 people and having serious staffing issues due to the real need to take breaks and step away like humans...So my manager started scheduling me and the other senior tech for alternating 'double shifts' to help support APAC hours and 'reduce our ticket backlog'. We were assured that 'help was on the way...just a few weeks'. After a few weeks, the other tech complained because he has family and kids, and now it was just me working doubles...Literally would work from 830am to about 530pm, take an hour or 2 off, and then work from 730 to 430am and then repeat the next day.
My manager at the time was over double my age...by the time of the story. I was working doubles for like 2 months straight due to the staffing issues but I thought it was a light at the end of the tunnel since I had a 2 week vacation coming up. My manager had it out for me as the next promotion I could get was for her job...So she had it out for me regularly by denying my vacation requests or planning her time off after I'd put mine in. Her rationale to put me on the evening and night shifts was in her words "you're a young man and it's more productive to work and advance your career than go out partying and drinking while the rest of us have families and children to spend time with". This time though, since I hadn't been on vacation for months, and my hours worked were racking up she begrudgingly agreed because it was about to start raising flags to higher management that I hadn't been on continuous leave for a while.
Excited for this, I had booked flights, hotels and a bunch of other things to relax...I was originally planning on going with my girlfriend, but the work hours and stuff pretty much killed that relationship...
The night before my flight there was a major outage and series of issues, and as a Senior on the team, myself and a few others had to come in at like 3am. Despite being really new, most of the former folks quit, leaving me the most senior asides the boss after a few months. 8am rolls around, I'm packing up to go home after fixing the issues and the boss walks up and says "I've cancelled your leave request due to the issue, we're going to need you in to cover for the next week or 2 and you can look into taking time off next month."
I say that, "no, I'm going on vacation...this is non-negotiable"...which she did not take well...she flips out saying "I have the next 3 days off, and that means you are required to cover. You do not negotiate. What I say, goes. Go home, you can freshen up but you need to be back in the office by 11am so I'm not late for my bookings."
I don't really know what came over me...something just kind of broke in me. So I just said OK. packed my bag up and went home. I got into the shower, washed up, shaved, combed and gelled my hair and pounded a 5 hr energy. I hadn't ironed my suits in months and most of my shirts were either wrinkled from being worn a bunch or had the crisp fold wrinkles from being pulled out of the package from the department store across the street and immediately being put on so that I could have a different short on from the day before. So I pulled out a clean shirt, and ironed my best suit and threw it on. I hadn't slept in over 36 hours but I never felt so goddamned awake and locked in in my life.
I got on the subway and walked into the office and landed at my desk around 10:59am...I intentionally spent a few minutes in the lobby getting some tea to make sure I got to my desk at exactly 11am.
Fun fact about this company...they are very much paranoid about competition, so if you quit...you immediately get into your exit interview and then get sent home with 2 weeks PTO/Severance + payout of any remaining vacation time. Usually no counter offers, just exit interview, pack your stuff, and enjoy your 2 weeks PTO.
My boss had a smug grin on her face, packed up her stuff on seeing me sitting down and left for her 3 day vacation. I waited a few minutes, told my 2 junior co-workers that I was sorry for leaving them hanging and then proceeded to print out my resignation letter, walked over to her boss and requested an immediate skip-level and requested if we could get a conference room to talk. When we got into the room, he was asking me why I was so late and that he had been checking my morning badge ins and was concerned that I was routinely coming in 2 hours late and that our working hours were 830am to 530pm. Upon hearing this I told him he probably doesn't have the full story and that before I went into it, that I needed to tender my resignation. He was shocked to say the least, but wasn't even remotely prepared for when I told him to check the "out of hours" badge ins and badge outs which is when he realized I had been working 18+ hour days for the past 2 or 3 months straight. Every "Day" of PTO only counted for an 8 hour shift...to take a full day off I had to burn 2 'days'. But every double shift earned me 8 hours of comp time which was tracked under a different allocation...His jaw dropped when he saw they owed me almost 80 days of Comp Time.
After calming down, he let me know that he apparently didn't know half of what was going on...and begged me to stay on and that I could immediately take time off as soon as she returns. I just said, "I'm done...i'm burned out, and i'm exhausted...and it shouldn't have gotten to this point." Once he realized there was nothing he could do, he said, "hey...do you mind if we order in lunch and do your exit interview and you can just lay it all on the table? I'm willing to listen, and we can have HR in to make sure your concerns get addressed." After the 3 hour exit interview where I proceeded to throw my boss under the bus about how poorly managed the team was and why there was so much attrition, they tallied my severance and I went home with effectively 3 months worth of pay from all the PTO/OT they owed me.
I left, made my flights for vacation that evening and laid out on a beach for a while and more or less just slept when i got back from vacation. I went and got drinks with my old boss who got me a position back at my old company for almost the same amount I was making at the new company, and tbh I took it. It was a bad idea in retrospect, but I wasn't really the same after that.
That said...I'm in a healthy and recovered space now. I've been at my current job for 9 years with a number of big promotions, I make over double, almost triple what I was making at those jobs and I have a management team that encourages us to take time off and has not denied a vacation or time off or even a mental health day request in those 9 years. I also only work 40 to 50 hours a week. compared to 80, 90 or 100hr weeks I was doing...
But that required me to take the steps to say "no" to my bosses and managers and setting boundaries. Good management will respect those boundaries and work with you if there's a conflict.
Anyways, enough proselytizing...what happened to my manager?
Well, within 2 weeks of me leaving, she was demoted. I didn't get too many details but she was pretty much trying to maximize her bonus by getting stuff done with as few staff-hours as possible. She found a loophole that she could allocate comp time which was not being tracked and was using that to bundle staff hours into...almost like a overtime ponzi scheme? I don't know how she didn't get fired but I can tell you this...it's been 12 years and she still has the same title...the equivalent of a 2 or 3 year employee getting their first promotion. So Get Wrecked i suppose?

2023.06.06 14:57 Alive_Kangaroo_9939 Why do we have non clinical rota coordinators?
They are completely useless. And some have no clue about the various levels of doctors - ie FY1, SHO, reg and their clincial competence. They very conveniently email at 1659 on a Friday and are then off till Monday.
However I have seen doctors managing rotas and its a completely different story- they are invested in the system and actively improve gaps. So here is my way to fix this system
- Kick all the non clinical rota coordinators out.
- Have one non clinical rota coordinator who is an assistant rota coordinator.
- Ask 2 doctors in that speciality to manage the rota. This can be a consultant or a reg. They get 1 programmed activity to do this.
- They sort out leaves , swaps , have full authority to escalate rates when it is understaffed.
- The assistant rota coordinator is non clinical and helps - that's all ! They don't make any decisions.
- When one doctor is on leave , the other doctor helps step in and they take turns managing the rota.
We will see a massive improvement in staffing , morale and retention of doctors.

2023.06.06 14:40 grassmountain Advice for switching careers to become an EA?
Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice. I currently work in the staffing industry but I’m looking to switch careers. I’ve always thought being an Executive Assistant would be a great fit for me due to my love for being organized and arranging things. I assist with those sorts of things in my office now.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for someone looking to switch careers? Curious about the things you like, dislike, etc. Also curious about average salaries. Seriously any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks so much!

2023.06.06 11:13 Zyxwgh Final thoughts of a former Silph Road Scientist and former Pokémon Go player, 2 months after stopping playing
This is a copy of a post I made on TheSilphRoad (where it was moderated away for reasons I don't understand yet) and on pogoraids. Dear Silph Road and PoGoRaids communities, dear Pokémon Go community,
Many of you know me directly or indirectly as the (now retired) Silph Road Scientist who used to publish
raid attacker spreadsheets,
actually even as "prestiger" spreadsheets even before raids existed, who
predicted forced nest migrations, or as the co-discoverer (together with
u/DrThod_PokemonGo) of the
egg rarity tiers, or just as the guy who tried
fun and funny raid challenges with
teams of small unevolved Pokémon, already
before raids were even a thing.
I started playing in July 2016 and I played almost every single day between November 2016 and March 2023.
My passion for statistics / quantitative analysis + geo-located stuff had me hooked, and the challenge of achieving different goals kept me in the game despite the frequent bugs and the lack of communication from Niantic's side.
I decided to stop playing cold turkey when Niantic announced the price increase for remote raid passes, but that was just the final nail in the
coffin Koffing in a season full of frustrations, which in turn were only the tip of the iceberg above a huge chunk of unsolved issues.
What promped me to quit the game for good
1) The first frustration was when Master Premier Classic was removed. Master Premier Classic was my best GBL league, I had a well-balanced team (Togekiss - Snorlax - Swampert) that I knew very well and brought me twice to Veteran. Now, to be equally competitive in Master Premier XL, I needed hundreds of XL candies for my team, which were basically locked behind events and trading. That is, easy for people flexible enough to play when Niantic wants, and easy for multiaccounters, but hard for legit players with work and family obligations like me.
2) Then in March I felt for the umpteenth time the rush to remove Frustration exactly in that week because it's just one week (or less) every three months, and not even with a fixed calendar.
3) Meanwhile I was hovering in the 2000s in GBL, without much hope to achieve Veteran any time soon, and still being forced to tank and go back up to get Rare Candies (because a 1-4 followed by a 4-1 gives 3 Rare Candies while two 3-2 sets give 0 Rare Candies).
4) I also realized that the "Go Battle League Pass" locked Elite TMs behind 900-950 battles per quarter, which amount to 20 monthly hours of GBL. At a $15 hourly salary that corresponds to $300 per month i.e. $3600 per year. Not sure if everyone realizes how much time/money it is.
5) At the end of March, the "Bronzor Cup" obviously added to the frustration level.
6) So the remote raiding kill (which not only meant I would have a hard time competing for the
pokeraids Phantom Drafts, but also meant that walking to a gym locally, finding no one, and asking for remote help on Discord wouldn't be a possibility anymore) was just the cherry on top.
But these are just the final hits that made me realize there are many more unsolved issues in the game.
What really needs to be fixed
1) The biggest problem of all:
This game more and more feels like a series of chores. Gift sending/opening, buddy hearts, Frustration/CDs/events that force you to do something specific at set dates/times... All these things make the game an obligation to play during certain times, and no longer a game that can be played on one's own terms and schedule.
2) Related but slightly different:
Rarity goes from "impossible" to "too much of it" AND BACK in a matter of days. I'd spend months chasing a rare Pokémon (e.g. Togetic), only for there to be a 3-hour window where I'd get plenty of it. But if in those 3 hours my daughter's school organizes an event, I may miss 90% of that exclusive time window and go back to "impossible" rarity at the end of the event. It also made any buddy walking or egg hatching or spawn chasing feel useless, because the game now is mostly "play in the scheduled obligation time to get what you need".
3) Being force-fed event after events also
deprives players of the time to explore "natural" spawns (which are bad anyway)
or nests (which nobody reports anymore because it's pointless on many levels).
4)
It's very hard to coordinate with other players. For years we had to just be lucky and bump into other players by chance, and then try to find the right third-party app for that particular community (Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord...). Campfire is too little, too late, and not available for everyone yet.
5)
Most game incentives cater to rule violators (mostly spoofers, multiaccounters and account sharers). Raids must be in person? "We'll fly to it." Guaranteed XL from trades? "I don't need your help, I just do 100 daily trades with my baby account." Regional exclusives? "My sister is in New Zealand, if you want I can ask her to catch a Relicanth for you." Especially multiaccounters get a lot of the good stuff: a second account, even without significant work put into it, adds firepower to raids, especially with the Mega attack bonus, it is a better Pokémon transfer "sink" than Professor Willow, who almost never gives XL candy, while "trades" with the alt account are often guaranteed, and a second account of a different team can conveniently take out the demotivated gym placeholders for 50 guaranteed coins a day. I literally emigrated away from a country that implicitly tolerates rule violators. I'm now leaving a game that implicitly tolerates rule violators.
6)
Raids have been broken since freaking 2017 and no fix is in sight. I'm referring to the extremely annoying bugs called
phantom hits and
boss health regeneration.
7)
RNG is everywhere. Spawns are random, eggs are random, IVs are random, the number of XL candies is random, GBL encounters are random, raid bosses appear randomly, nests rotate randomly, raid rewards are random, quests are random, and so on and so on. Yes, that's what keeps players trying for more, and yes, in the long term many things even out, but it's still quite frustrating.
8)
Many ways of wasting raid passes. People backing out at the last moment because there is no in-game communication channel (and because the number of needed trainers and the actual attacker effectiveness are being kept obscure by Niantic), inability to re-enter when the raid has expired, and the already mentioned raid bugs make raiding sometimes just a waste of time and raid passes.
9)
The GBL reward structure incentivizes tanking. Giving rewards on the basis of how many matches have been won
within a set instead of overall, coupled with matchmaking based instead on Elo and therefore (roughly) on
overall match wins, pushes players to lose matches on purpose in order to win more when their Elo is artificially lower but rewards are higher because of Go Battle Days or just 4-1 being just so much better than 3-2, given the poor average quality of encounters.
10)
Communication sucks. It's June 2023 and there is still no way a new player can figure out that at the end of each GBL season the star piece has to be activated before
clicking on Battle. And the same goes for a lot of in-game mechanics that can only be figured out by reading a lot of posts here or by trial and error. In addition, often the official blog and even Niantic support give wrong information.
Minor problems
This above was enough to make me quit. But we also have some minor problems that would be nice to be solved because they are additional nuisances:
1)
The gym system is stupid. Instead of being competitive (actual battles for gym control among the three teams, with appropriate rewards) or cooperative (before the 2017 gym "reform", players from the same team could "power up" a gym by "training" in a raid-like way), it is just a race to who gets the first 6 spots in an empty gym without any effort (or with variable effort only by the first player) and then hoping that someone from the opposing team kicks out your "defender" after more than 8 hours but possibly every day, but not from all gyms but only one gym a day. Or just multiaccounting (ToS violation) and do it all yourself.
2)
Too much focus on Saturdays and Sundays. For me it's a major problem, but I can understand the reason. However I'm around more often Monday to Friday than on weekends, so it's annoying that CDs, raid days and special research events (which are by the way the shortest and the ones that shouldn't be missed) fall on days when I'm not so flexible.
3)
Too many pointless time sinks. Pointless animations when fighting gyms, pointless 120-second lobby when soloing a low-tier raid, pointless animations for buddy feeding, pointless need for AR when AR is not functional to the game, pointless Rocket rewards screens, etc.
Conclusion
I hope that someone at Niantic reads half of what I've written, knowing that they have lost one of the (many, but few in percentage) people who have contributed to the growth of the awesome community around this game, and knowing that, if the game is kept in this "alpha-version" state, many other players will leave and move on to something less frustrating and more enjoyable.
I'm thankful to the Silph Road Team (moderators, scientists, researchers, and everyone else) and to the PoGoRaids Team (moderators, draft leaders, and everyone else) and to both
TheSilphRoad and
pogoraids communities because they have made this not-so-short phase of my playing life more enjoyable despite Niantic.

As title says, I’m looking for insight from someone has experienced traveling with a partner who is a travel nurse while working in Big 4. My girlfriend is starting to travel nurse and I’m interested in hitting the road with her but am looking for more information as to how you managed this with the firm (permission, taxes, time reporting, salary, etc). I’m staffed on a long-term engagement which is 100% remote and have gone into the office 2x in 15 months.

2023.06.06 04:57 MaIorbas Defending the Draft 2023: Los Angeles Chargers
Preface: There’s really no way to look back at the Chargers’ 2022 season without starting at the end. The team blew a 27-0 lead to the Jaguars in the wild card round in what can only be described as the peak of decades of cruelty by the football gods directed at the Chargers. In a year that began with Super Bowl aspirations thanks to an extremely talented on-paper roster, and included a regular season of injury after injury after injury (Justin Herbert, Rashawn Slater, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, etc.), the finale could not have been more crushing. Criticism and ridicule has rained down on head coach Brandon Staley and offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi,
and the latter was promptly fired at the end of the season to the rejoicing of fans everywhere. But now we begin, again. The Super Bowl hopes are very much alive. The roster saw very few changes in free agency as the front office and coaching staff clearly believe the failure of the 2022 season was generally not an issue with the assembled players. But there is a much higher sense of urgency this year, and it’s not an exaggeration to say the team is going “all in” on the final cheap year of Justin Herbert’s rookie deal. Contracts have been structured in a way that will force significant cuts after the 2023 season just to get the team to salary cap compliance. This year may be do-or-die for both Tom Telesco and Brandon Staley.
Free Agency Recap
Losses:
G Matt Feiler, LB Drue Tranquill, EDGE Kyle Van Noy, QB Chase Daniel, CB Bryce Callahan, WR Deandre Carter, S Nasir Adderley, LB Troy Reeder, DL Breiden Fehoko, WR Michael Bandy, OT Storm Norton Five starters on this list: Feiler, Tranquill, Callahan, Carter, and Adderley. Letting Drue Tranquill leave is by far the most controversial decision here, especially since he ended up going to the Chiefs. He played very well last year, but seems like the idea here is that he was a factor in the defense’s struggle against the run. Feiler was a disaster last season after a great 2021, and Jamaree Salyer should be an immediate upgrade. Callahan is still a free agent and a reunion is not out of the question. Van Noy was great as a fill-in when Bosa was injured, but the team wants to get younger at the position. Carter was a quiet signing who outperformed his contract and provided much needed depth but again, too old. Adderley was benched in the season finale and then retired. The rest were backups and rotational players.
Additions: LB Eric Kendricks, DL Nick Williams That’s it, that’s the list. Eric Kendricks steps in as the starter next to Kenneth Murray who he can hopefully help mentor into being a good linebacker. And theoretically, he will be an upgrade in run defense over Drue Tranquill. Williams was signed after the draft as insurance for the injured Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia. He may not make the team. The Chargers used most of the rest of their cap space re-signing free agents like Trey Pipkins, Morgan Fox, and Donald Parham. They still have about $12.5M to work with, pending the upcoming Justin Herbert mega-deal.
Draft Needs
WR: The trio of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Josh Palmer is one of the best in the league. However, with their contracts, there’s really no chance Allen and Williams will be Chargers in 2024. This group also lacks a speed element.
EDGE: Similar to WR, the starting duo of Bosa and Mack is elite but they are expensive and getting older. The depth behind them is just Chris Rumph.
TE: Gerald Everett is solid but on the last year of his deal. Donald Parham has potential but can’t stay healthy. Tre’ McKitty is a blocking TE who isn’t a very good blocker.
CB: JC Jackson is an enormous question mark, both from a health and performance standpoint. Michael Davis is a free agent after 2023. Ja’Sir Taylor is penciled in as the starting slot corner after very limited playing time last year.
OL: This is the strongest starting five the Chargers have had in a decade but the depth behind them both inside and out is weak.
LB: Eric Kendricks and Kenneth Murray will start, but Murray is auditioning to be on the team next year and Kendricks is old. The depth behind them is just Nick Niemann and Amen Ogbongbemiga.
S: JT Woods was a 2022 3rd round pick but barely played in 2022. Alohi Gilman stepped up when needed, but relying on him to start is risky.
RB: Austin Ekeler requested a trade, and even though it looked very unlikely to happen, the team needs to think about life after him in 2024. Neither Josh Kelley or Isaiah Spiller have shown they can handle a full workload.
KPR: With Deandre Carter’s departure, the team has no one with real return experience.
The Draft
1.21: Quentin Johnston - WR, TCU In hindsight, this pick should have been more obvious. The Chargers have been very strict about their size thresholds for wide receivers over the years, and despite countless debates about Johnston vs Zay Flowers vs Jordan Addison, the big guy from TCU won out. This was an immediately controversial pick among fans as many believed the speedy Flowers or the crafty Addison would be more suited to filling the biggest need in this position group: speed and separation. But while Johnston may not be your traditional deep threat, his game speed and GPS tracking data suggest a more dynamic skillset than he showed at the combine. And one area where he does beat those two guys that was probably overlooked as a need: run after catch ability. Johnston was elite at that in college, and that looks to be his primary role for the Chargers. New OC Kellen Moore will use him like he did Ceedee Lamb in Dallas. And since he will start the year at number three on the depth chart at best, he won’t be under pressure to carry the offense as a rookie while he learns from the veterans in front of him.
2.54: Tuli Tuipulotu - EDGE, USC After WR, the Chargers’ clear next biggest need was at EDGE and Tuli was the consensus best available. The team has also shown a penchant for drafting local kids from USC and UCLA over the last few years. He was extremely productive in his final season in college where he put up 13.5 sacks playing both on the edge and the interior. In the draft process, many people questioned if he would bulk up to be a full time DT or slim down to play the EDGE. It ended up being the latter as he weighed 266lbs at the combine. Tuli will provide valuable depth behind Bosa and Mack as a rookie, while also having the opportunity to play inside on passing downs like he did in college.
3.85: Daiyan Henley - LB, Washington State The Chargers lost two linebackers to free agency: Drue Tranquill and Troy Reeder. Tranquill was the team’s best coverage linebacker, and Reeder was key depth while also being a core special teams player. Enter Daiyan Henley, who could fill both of those roles by himself. With Kenneth Murray likely off the team in 2024, Henley has the opportunity to earn a starting job over the course of the season. He is a recent convert to the linebacker position and there is still much room for growth. At the very least, he will be an immediate special teams contributor. Staley and Telesco both raved about his prowess in that phase of the game after picking him.
*
4.125: Derius Davis - WR, TCU * Another TCU receiver! This pick was definitely a surprise, as many people projected him to be a late day 3 pick. But the Chargers coaching staff said after the draft that they believed he was the best return man available, and that they wanted to draft a starter in the 4th round. Davis was indeed one of the best returners in the country at TCU, and also can add some juice on offense even if he ends up limited to a gadget role. Either way, here’s some killer speed for the Chargers offense.
5.156: Jordan McFadden - OL, Clemson In the last few drafts, the Chargers have shown a lot of love for late round tackle-to-guard converts. Jamaree Salyer was the steal of the 2022 draft in the sixth round. McFadden played both tackle and guard in college on both sides of the line, and some scouts believe he may even be able to play some center. For the Chargers he will compete with Brenden Jaimes for the swing guard role, and maybe even push Foster Sarrell to be the swing tackle. Key depth for a position group that needed it.
6.200: Scott Matlock - DL, Boise State Matlock is a solid run defender with some pass rush upside who will get to learn behind a strong trio of veteran starters. And with Austin Johnson and Otito Ogbonnia both rehabbing major knee injuries, he may end up seeing some decent playing time this season. I’m very intrigued by his upside, and Staley has a good track record of getting good play from late round DTs.
7.239: Max Duggan - QB, TCU The Los Angeles Horned Frogs are ready to take the NFL by storm in 2023 (hopefully to face the Philadelphia Bulldogs in a championship rematch). The Chargers historically have carried three QBs on the active roster, and with only two signed going into the draft, it seemed like a strong possibility they would pick one. So here’s Max Duggan, who despite leading TCU to the Natty was generally not loved by scouts. He has a ton of athletic ability but the finer points of playing QB need to be worked on. There is absolutely potential to be a long term backup to Justin Herbert though, if he can beat out Easton Stick.
Notable UDFAs Jerrod Clark - DL, Coastal Carolina: Most people expected Clark to be drafted, and the Chargers gave him a lot of money for a UDFA. I would not be surprised at all to see him make the roster as an additional run defender.
Cam Jones - CB, Ohio State: Another guy who could have been drafted, there are depth spots at corner up for grabs and Jones is an intriguing option.
Tiawan Mullen - CB, Indiana: Mullen used to have a pretty high draft stock but fell hard in the process. The Chargers are thin at slot corner and he could earn a role.
Mikel Jones - LB, Syracuse: There’s a wide open competition for ILB5 that will most likely be decided by special teams.

2023.06.06 03:33 Certifiedmidwife Power of Having a Business Consultant
When we begin our own business, our most important advocates are our business consultants. They help you turn any problem into a solution. Their job is to solve problems within your business. Consultants can solve many business problems. Different types of consultants have different solutions.
It is not always easy. Finding the right business consultant can be difficult for business owners. You need to search for the best qualities that are most suitable for your business. A consultant must have passion for their work, drive to excellence, and an eye for detail and organization. It is important to find a consultant with expertise in your industry and experience solving the problems that your company faces.
Why a midwife business consultant is necessary?
Some companies wonder why they need a business consultant. Because they already have smart people, why would they need a business consultant? There are many reasons it is a good idea to hire someone outside.
Here are the most common reasons to hire a business consultant:
- Insufficient expertise – Sometimes the skills required for growth aren’t available within the company. Expert consultants can provide the expertise and experience required to complete a project or solve specific problems.
- Time constraints – Sometimes employees don’t have the time or the resources to complete a project or conduct the necessary research. Business consultants can be an invaluable resource to quickly staff up for short-term tasks or projects.
- Inadequacy of experience – It’s hard for employees to keep up with the latest trends and technologies. This results in a shortage of skilled employees who are knowledgeable about the most recent tools and methods. Training can be provided by business consultants to meet the demand or provide support until the skills are acquired.
- Flexibility in staffing – Businesses can hire business consultants to help with short-term projects, without having to pay a salary or benefits. Once the project is complete, the consultant’s contract expires. A company doesn’t have to budget for severance pay and other HR obligations.
- Unbiased opinions – It’s important to have an objective opinion when there are conflicts or problems. Experts in strategy, business consultants can offer perspectives that may be overlooked by stakeholders who are too close to the problem. They can help you think through the problem, navigate within politics and provide sensible solutions.
- Cross-pollination of new ideas– Business consultants have worked with many companies and industries. These ideas can be cross-pollinated to help businesses think outside the box and include new concepts and methods.
- For special projects that require speed and efficiency, companies can hire consultants who have previous experience. Perhaps you are looking for a new solution to a problem in your company’s software. An experienced consultant can help companies quickly overcome the learning curve and implement new tools in a cost-effective manner.
- Assessment – A business consultant can help companies identify data and define the problem. They will then recommend solutions.
- Conflict resolution – A mediator can be used by an outside consultant to help resolve conflicts. Business consultants can act as neutral mediators to resolve disputes in different situations.
- Compliance – Businesses must adhere to all federal, state and local regulations. Compliance consultants can help companies avoid violations. It can be difficult and complicated to implement regulations. Hiring an expert can help you save time, money, and resources.
Benefits of Hiring a Midwife Consultant
1. Expertise
A business consultant’s greatest advantage is their ability to specialize in specific areas. This allows them to provide the necessary expertise for each sector. Consultants will often work with several clients within their specialty area. This allows them to keep up to date on the latest developments and trends in the field. This can help organizations stay ahead and make the most of new models and methods. Consultants can help clients make immediate decisions and help to build a long-term structure that can increase productivity and performance. This can easily be quantified as a return on investment.
2. Independence
Permanent employees may be subject to internal “politics” within an organization. This means they might agree to things in order to please their boss, rather than because it makes sense. Consultants bring a different perspective that could make a significant difference in how you run your business. Good consultants will be objective and impartial. They are not connected to the company and can therefore focus on the client’s goals/plan without getting distracted by internal distractions.
3. One-off-costs
Organizations that hire external expertise to assist with individual projects don’t have to pay overhead costs. These include providing benefits or even providing a computer and workspace. Clients can also extend their contracts based on their needs and the results of the initial term. They don’t have to worry about having to contribute to another pension fund or covering holidays or sick pay.
4. Best practices
Consultants can work with a wide range of clients and have the ability to draw on experience from many industries and companies. They can offer innovative solutions because of their diversity of thinking. It also allows them to share best practices. Organizations can learn from the top performers in their industry and find ways to improve their operations.
5. Maintaining the business in operation
For some roles, organizations can use internal resources to staff their projects. However, in certain cases, the running of an organization may be affected by the removal of resources. In these cases, consultants can be a useful way to ensure business continuity.

Hi, American here,
I like the US but I'm looking to get a change of scenery. I'd ideally like to move to Germany but I'm also open to England(I lived in London for a few years as a kid and enjoyed it), and some other European or even Asian suggestions. The only language I'm fluent in is English, currently working on Spanish, once I get to a decent level I want to start learning German. I have 3-4 years of marketing experience, and I currently work remotely as a marketing coordinator for a US company where I am making $63,000/yr. not sure if I can just live in another country while working remotely, the information I've seen online has been a bit confusing, if not, how would I go about finding a job? What can i expect in terms of salary and job titles?
Appreciate any suggestions, tips, or advice!

2023.06.05 19:46 earlyearlgray I asked chatGPT to make an argument to keep the current roster for next season
Because it’s off-season and why not. Here it is:
There are several compelling reasons to keep the current Toronto Raptors roster for the upcoming season. Despite a challenging 2022-2023 campaign, this team possesses significant potential and maintaining continuity can lead to improved results in the future. Here are some key arguments for retaining the current roster:
Chemistry and Cohesion: The Raptors have a group of players who have spent considerable time playing together. Continuity and familiarity within the team can enhance on-court chemistry and coordination. This familiarity enables players to anticipate each other's moves and develop a better understanding of their teammates' strengths and weaknesses. By keeping the core intact, the Raptors can build upon these existing relationships and further strengthen their cohesion.
Growth and Development: Many of the Raptors' current players are young and have shown great potential. By retaining the roster, the team can provide stability and continuity that allows players to continue their development. Young talents like Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, and Precious Achiuwa have already demonstrated their abilities, and by keeping them together, the Raptors can foster their growth and maximize their potential.
Defensive Identity: The Raptors have long been known for their strong defensive mindset. With players like OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, and Fred VanVleet, the team possesses a solid defensive foundation. Maintaining this roster allows the team to continue building on its defensive identity, as players become more comfortable with their roles and defensive schemes. Defense is often an essential component of success in the NBA, and the Raptors have the pieces to maintain their strong defensive presence.
Financial Flexibility: The current roster, while talented, doesn't have any contracts that are prohibitively expensive or hinder the team's financial flexibility. This flexibility allows the Raptors to explore potential trades or free agent acquisitions without being hampered by excessive salary commitments. By keeping the current roster, the team can maintain this financial flexibility and make moves to bolster the roster if necessary.
Competitive Balance: Despite a challenging season, the Raptors still possess a competitive core. They have experienced players like Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Gary Trent Jr. who have proven their abilities to perform at a high level. With the right adjustments, the Raptors can remain competitive and be a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference.
In conclusion, keeping the current Toronto Raptors roster provides several advantages such as building on established chemistry, fostering player development, maintaining a defensive identity, preserving financial flexibility, and ensuring competitive balance. While changes may be necessary to address specific weaknesses, maintaining continuity can lead to improved results and long-term success for the team.

2023.06.05 18:34 lowergods need help on telling my family I plan on postpone the bachelor exam
So this is my last year of Faculty, but since January I've been living alone since my parents had to move to another country for health reasons. I ve always been independent but Idk why since then I've been struggling to get things done in school and my life too. (Homework, groceries, all that seems easy and doable it felt overwhelming) I managed to pass the exams of the first semester because I had a colleague that would push me into learning and not giving up, but for the last months I couldn't get anything done on my thesis. I just copy pasted some things and presented it to my coordinator so I would gain a sense of control, but now I am less than a month away from presenting the thesis and it feels so overwhelming, I just can't get it done in time and I have to take interviews for the reserach part too, I feel like it is too complicated to get it done until the end of June. I lied to my family, I would always tell them that I am writing on my thesis, in reality I would wake up on the afternoon and feel like a failure because I can't get up in the morning and put my life together. Now my coordinator requsted those who plan on postponing the bachelor to reach out, but I don't know what to do. I have other exams too, and it just doesn't feel like I would finish the paper in time, but I am too scared and ashamed to tell my family, they've always had such big expectations of me regarding academics. I don't plan on giving up the bachelor exam, I just plan on postponing until the next session in February 2024. But, my family already thinks about me getting a job that requires my diploma and moving to another country with them, where the salary is much bigger that in my home country. They would be dissapointed with me not taking the exam this session like the other colleagues. I have never been able to tell them what I really want or what hurts me, but this time I really have to tell them but I don't know how. I feel awful, and that's on me. Please I need your advises, thanks for reading

2023.06.05 17:31 Zyxwgh Final thoughts of a former Silph Road Scientist and former Pokémon Go player, 2 months after stopping playing
Dear Silph Road and PoGoRaids communities,
Many of you know me directly or indirectly as the (now retired) Silph Road Scientist who used to publish
raid attacker spreadsheets,
actually even as "prestiger" spreadsheets even before raids existed, who
predicted forced nest migrations, or as the co-discoverer (together with
u/DrThod_PokemonGo) of the
egg rarity tiers, or just as the guy who tried
fun and funny raid challenges with
teams of small unevolved Pokémon, already
before raids were even a thing.
