ALL IN ONE SHOT MAP & THEORY: Amherst Motel, ATM, Insurance forms, bottle return & liquor.
SPECULATION: Maura's friend/BF is from out-of-town & stays at the Amherst Motel when he comes to visit. Looking at the available & detailed phone records that begin on January 23rd, 2004 we can see that Maura never called Dominos prior to January 31st, this might suggest that he arrived in town on that evening after finishing work/classes & was off until the next Tuesday. Someone calls Maura at the security desk from an internal line & Maura fakes a breakdown shortly after (to get off work as per her sister Kathleen.) Maura is let off work but declines KM's invitation to go to Dunkin's & lies to her by saying she's got a roommate. Shortly afterwards at 3:40 A.M. she calls Domino's.
Why would she call her friend/BF at Domino's during after-hours if he's from out of town? It might be to hide his identity. If he got a call on the phone in his room or his cell phone, he could later be identified. If Maura & him were planning to start a new life together, this would leave no clues.
It's possible he grabbed the key on a prior occasion without the owner's knowledge, copied it & then returned it the same day. If he's the one who stole the cc number given to Maura, he'd be capable of copying the key. Once he has the key & sees the owner leaving he could let himself in. Maura always called around closing time or after. Also, it has to be Maura who calls so that people think she's ordering pizza. If he calls, then it's someone calling Maura specifically & from a cell or motel. LE would investigate that for sure.
Sat the 31st 2:44 AM // Thurs the 5th at 12:00 AM & 12:10 AM // Fri the 6th at 3:40 AM
My guess is that if this is what happened, then he might have been due back to work/school on Tuesday or Maura was waiting for the check from her student loan which she might have gotten on that Monday (James Renner blog.) If UMass agreed to hide the fact that they helped her to leave an abusive relationship, they might have made the cheque out to cash.
Let's say the Hadley accident was exactly that, an accident & nothing more.
Finally, the day of departure...
February 9th, 2004 SPECULATION:
  • She goes to the Amherst motel behind Domino's & meets up with BF.
  • The Saturn is towed from or picked up at Zbylut Motorworks garage (aka Autozone) (open since 2003.) This is one example but there seems to have been other auto-repair shops nearby.
February 9th, 2004 FACTS:
  • Maura goes to ATM & receipt is printed around 3:15 PM.
  • She gets the insurance forms from AAA located between liquors 44 & the bottle return place.
  • She or her BF returns the cans & either both or one or the other buys the alcohol & cigarettes at the liquor store & pays at 3:43 PM.
ETA: I don't think the friend/BF ever went to Maura's dorm room or else they'd be easily identifiable & it wouldn't be the smartest idea if the plan was to help her disappear. It's possible however that he was a 4th person at the party or that just like the tandem theory, a friend of Maura's was relating info from the friend/BF to Maura.
ETA: If you're an AAA member, you can do your most common RMV business at this AAA location. https://www.mass.gov/locations/hadley-aaa-limited-rmv-services
If she can do all that's included in link above, she can get an SF91 accident form. Wouldn't even need to be a member I think. Everyone wondered (including myself) where she got them. Then I enlarged the map & it became obvious.
I also wouldn't be surprised if she then went down the road to one of the cell phone stores, bought herself a burner, called her old mobile one last time & then dumped the old phone. Occam's razor?
ETA: Guess what else she could have done at AAA?
She could have gotten roads maps or asked a travel agent to ,map out her itinerary & book her a hotel room. I hope LE interviewed the employees of the AAA agency-they probably did. It may be the reason why they didn't feel that interviewing the Salamones was pertinent.

2023.03.15 02:48 ba12348 ABS sensor wire clip for 2014 Accord?

Just finished replacing my rear struts, crowbar slipped while I was getting one of them in and busted the plastic clip that holds the ABS sensor wire to the frame, it's the white clip on the end of this part. The bar hit the clip itself, it didn't yank on the wire, no visible damage, and I don't have an ABS warning light, so Id rather not spend 60 bucks for a plastic clip if I don't have to, anyone know what to call this clip, where to locate it, etc? I'd try to rig it up with a cable tie but there's nothing to wrap around, just a single square hole in the unibody.

Help finding name of piece and where to get it - Ford Fusion 2007 Manual 4-cyl 2.3L
Hi, I am in the process of changing my car's clutch and I'm pretty sure I broke the seal when trying to pry it open since it has a big rip in the bottom. I have 0 mechanical experience and can't find the exact name of this seal since many people call it different stuff and when I look it up I get seals for other parts. Could anyone help me locate the seal that I need and where to buy it? Autozone support redirected me to input/output shaft seals which I am pretty sure are not the ones I need but unsure if they have various uses. The seal I need is the black one shown in the picture and it is right where the CV axle slides in to the teansmission on the driver's side.

2023.03.01 09:37 Both_Bread9861 Brakes (still) creaking after getting them done- 1st car, any advice on where to start? 2001 PT Cruiser

To start off with- I just moved out of state and haven’t found a job just yet, so I’m probably at least 2-3 weeks out from having any money to start putting towards this issue. I’m also currently located in SoCal, if anyone has any shop recommendations. I bought brake parts from Autozone to prep for the 250 mile drive, but as this is my first car, I was rather unprepared for the costs of getting them done. I was quoted a few prices but the first couple places didn’t mention the fact that it was per axle. On top of that, I had a few friends look at my rear brakes and they had conflicting options on whether I had drum or disc rotors (they’re disc apparently, but the parking brake is a drum which is what confused everyone), so I ended up returning the rear set for now as the front brakes were worse. I got those done at a Meineke, and they do seem quite a bit better but they’re nowhere near perfect. I tried the method of backing up and hitting the brakes, as my dad suggested, and just kinda driving and breaking them in. I still feel like I have trouble stopping before the line at lights, and they creak at full stops, even after the move. Would getting the rear brakes done help with this issue, or has anyone had a similar issue where the problem lied somewhere else? I know I need my shocks done as well, I’m not sure if this could be a result of that. I feel like I’ve been jerked around a bit by shops where I used to live, every shop would tell me I had different issues (and a good amount of the work suggested had been done by the previous owner recently- I have a binder full of records). I was quoted ridiculous prices for basic services, and I know it relates to me being a female with a good-looking car that knows little to nothing about it LMAO. It makes me easy to take advantage of, so I prefer to look for advice from multiple resources haha.

2023.02.28 15:23 _UsUrPeR_ Just wanted to post this somewhere because I resolved it. FIAT 500 No Crank/No Start

Hey all. I just finished fixing my mother-in-law's Fiat 500. It was having intermittent starting problems, and I wasted a bunch of time and money on it, but have finally resolved the problem.
Vehicle:
Symptoms:
Intermittent start, no start. Battery seemed to be good, but vehicle would not crank, no starter engage, no solenoid click.
Resolution:
First, I replaced the starter, presuming that the intermittent start was caused by its age. This seemed to temporarily resolve the issue, which reappeared the next month.
Second, I checked the ground strap from body to transmission. It appeared to be on the verge of failure, so I purchased two battery cables from Autozone - one I ran to replace the original strap from the body to the transmission (which required the removal of the clutch slave cylinder. Reminder: keep some tension on the slave with a zip tie, or it will pop out, and you'll have to bleed the clutch). Still no luck on starting.
Finally, I followed the hint of jumping out the clutch switch detailed here. This was the resolution: the clutch switch relay had failed. I jumped out the relay with a piece of wire just like in the video, and the vehicle starts just fine now. I realize that the video shows an Abarth, but the clutch switch relay is in the same location.
Problem solved! I am purchasing a new clutch switch relay, but in the mean time, everything is working just fine!
I just wanted to post this in case anybody has had this issue. I would prefer that no one duplicate my process because it cost about $400 for me to get to this point.

2023.02.15 16:03 2ndSifter AutoZone: The Crowded Room

AutoZone: The Crowded Room
TLDR; Autozone (AZO) is currently valued at $2,500 per share. This is due to its decade-long resistance against splitting its stock. However, its balance sheet sheds light on a company that is hemorrhaging money quickly and has shaky fundamentals at best. In the future, AutoZone may be forced to dilute current shareholders risking a mutiny by its 94% institutional holders. With low liquidity and a high level of institutional investing, any fund that begins to sell out of its position will potentiate a downward spiral. For this reason, I believe that AZO is currently grossly overvalued even at its current EPS and analyst forecasts. AutoZone reports earnings on 02/28 which I believe will lead to AZO's decline in valuation.

The argument can be made that, at any given time a stock is valued precisely as it should be. Every seller must have a buyer willing to pay the quoted price. It is up to the investor's discretion, however, whether or not they are willing to place a similar value on the security being offered. In looking at the stock valuation of Autozone (AZO), I will try to summarize how this principle has led investors to grossly overpay for a company that is most likely hemorrhaging money.
https://preview.redd.it/ctux814zpcia1.png?width=1495&format=png&auto=webp&s=52a2de6edbfcf496d83f06427b99f80fbfaa8480
Here we have AutoZone's (AZO) stock summary. Ignoring the +36,936% increase in stock valuation since the early '90s, we can see that AZO has maintained a modest amount of shares outstanding for being such a seasoned company. The $2,546 per stock valuation reflects the company's avoidance of performing any stock splits since 1994. Similar to Berkshire Hathaway's strategy, avoiding stock splits allows for a decreased dilution of shares and ultimately more value returned to shareholders per stock held (in theory).
The daily volume of shares exchanged per day is typically low, and it takes fewer shares to move the price of the stock. This strategy also has the added benefit of boosting EPS, as earnings are not spread as thinly across millions of shares. AZO's PE ratio is 21.38, which is moderately high but does not raise too many red flags. Therefore, on the surface, it looks like a solid company with astounding earnings and a flawless track record.
But when we dig deeper into AZO's balance sheet, we find some concerning abnormalities.
Earnings typically peak in August and Bottom in February
I don't prefer to use revenue alone as a means of gauging a company's solvency, as it often doesn't provide a comprehensive explanation of its operations. Operating income is much more comprehensive and equates to Revenue - Cost of Revenue - Operating Expenses. This provides a much clearer picture of how much money a company is actually making from their business. For AZO, earnings typically peak in August and decline during the Winter months. A decline during this time period is not abnormal. What is abnormal is that AZO's revenue trend is starting to reverse direction. This past November's earnings were lower than the year prior, yet the valuation of the stock still implies that the market is pricing in an upward trend.

2020 SEC filing showing that issue of $1.2b in notes was responsible for the injection of cash
Cash and Cash equivalents can give us insight into how much liquid capital a company has quick access to if necessary. For the quarter that ended in November 2021, this liquid capital came back down to pre-pandemic levels. This tells us that the large sum of cash raised by issuing notes was quickly spent. It is concerning that such a large sum of money only held them over for a few quarters and without another similar injection, I see them burning through the remaining cash very quickly.
https://preview.redd.it/x8hjnxu4ycia1.png?width=1464&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ce98e8efbb75ba3ece0fe10411753922fd13eba
AZO's balance sheet also shows that liabilities are quickly outpacing assets. This is not uncommon, especially for companies that are based out of brick-and-mortar locations. However, This does not leave them much room for error when managing their balance sheet.

https://preview.redd.it/e27rgp3nzcia1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f4839cd9414466f1bcdd2f55671ec25ce4ad6f5e
To emphasize the severity of the hemorrhage, AutoZone's working capital currently sits at -$2b. It should be noted that some industries require more working capital than others as their operations aren't as liquid and may not be able to generate short-term capital quickly from customers. Even with this in mind, for the past 2 years, AutoZone has been operating far below its typical threshold for working capital requirements.
Simply put, AutoZone has never been this strapped for cash in the history of the company. Yet its stock valuation is still sitting around its all-time high.
So then, what is AZO's true value?

https://preview.redd.it/p5qgagq81dia1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=c35e8af2f8ee224a0712b978122c6ad486cde4b2
Although book value is not always an accurate metric for gauging the value of a company, it still provides some important information. Book value is typically measured as the sum of a company's assets less its liabilities assuming they can be sold. If AutoZone was to hypothetically sell all of its assets and pay off its outstanding obligations today, this metric would give us the value investors could expect their shares to be worth. Their shares wouldn't actually yield -$176 to state the obvious, but it does show how deep the bullet lies.
https://preview.redd.it/d1j1ryh53dia1.png?width=452&format=png&auto=webp&s=62249fe838f78ad8c999041bddbfebdd2ee4268e
Ultimately, this is not a "doom and gloom" post about how I believe AZO is plummeting toward insolvency. I just cannot imagine any justification for a $2,500/share valuation of a company that has the balance sheet of a penny stock. The numbers are larger, sure, but the ratios are eerily similar. This isn't the first stock that I have seen with a grossly inflated valuation, but it is a staple of many mutual funds, trusts, and ETFs. In a risk-off market environment or if macroeconomic sentiment shifts, I can see it as one of the first to go.

Control is wholly owned by institutions
AZO appears to play a key role in many mutual funds
Because funds have been building positions for decades and holding shares, AutoZone has historically been immune to significant downside swings or price volatility in previous years. However, their balance sheet expresses that there are some pretty significant reasons for funds to re-evaluate if they truly want to continue holding a hemorrhaging company.
So far the path for AutoZone's stock has been a straight line, but all good things must come to an end. Gravity will bring it back down to Earth. With an average daily volume profile of around ~100,000 shares, the most pain will come in the form of low liquidity.

https://preview.redd.it/iq1xblbc7dia1.png?width=1446&format=png&auto=webp&s=77f1c15e251630d48e49da700dc50f86e97fbf49
With 94% of shares owned by institutions, any firm that chooses to sell out of its position will potentiate a downward spiral. When there's a fire nobody wants to be the last one to the exit.
This time, there are 1441 people in the room
And the only exit is the size of a walnut.

2023.02.10 19:48 hilliplollins 2013 Hyundai Elantra - AC compressor not spinning.

Looking at a friend's 2013 Hyundai Elantra. She said that one day she came out and when she went to turn on her AC, it blew tepid/unchilled air.
(not sure if relevant, but it's a 4cyl engine, automatic trans, probably less than 100k mi on the ODO)
What I've tried:
  1. AC fuse in the fuse panel inside the car looks good
  2. The accessory belt is in place, and the pulley on the AC compressor spins.
  3. When she turns on the AC the little green indicator light illuminates, but the clutch on the AC pump doesn't engage.
  4. I looked for an AC relay in the fuse box in the engine compartment, but didn't see anything.
  5. No visible leaks on any of the AC lines that I could see. They all looked pretty clean (no other oil leaks)
  6. I have a half-used R134A filler bottle (like you get at Autozone) that has a gauge on top. Out of curiosity, I connected it to the low pressure service port at the back of the engine compartment, and the pressure gauge immediately went into the red zone. Not 100% sure what that means, and I didn't pull the little trigger valve to release any of the refrigerant. I had her start the car at that point, and the pressure needle stayed in the red. As far as I know, I don't think she's had anyone put any additional refrigerant in.
Any ideas? I did some google searches, but I've tried about all I could locate.

2023.02.10 18:40 InterestingFruit106 sold me a car, lost my paperwork

almost 2 years ago i bought a car with carmax. the day after i drove it off the lot i went on a 10 hour roadtrip and the check engine light came on and autozone said it was the turbo. called carmax and they said bring it to the nearest carmax and they would give me a loaner and fix that one for free since it was their fault. i ended up not wanting the broken car and went back a week later originally to pick up the broken one but ended up signing the papers for the loaner and paying for that one instead. they never took the dealer plate off and gave me the temporary registration. i went to get my car registered at city hall and brought the entire folder of paperwork with me but they said they didn’t have everything they needed. i called the bank im financing with and they didn’t have it either because carmax never gave it to them. i’ve been calling the carmax location and customer service and nothing. after a year the dealership FINALLY answered and got back to me and sent me paperwork to sign that i signed and sent back and then they ghosted me all over again. customer service hasnt even been able to get in contact with them. the location said they LOST the paperwork. i got pulled over and had to go to court because of the dealer plate and it not being registered or inspected but got off with a warning because it’s not my fault. it’s going on 2 years of having this vehicle and i am unable to go into the location as it’s 15 hours away from me now. legal advice? can i even do anything legally? what do i do.

2023.01.14 06:05 MysteriousAd3188 Subaru Outback HELP!!! Mechanics please read.

I have a 2019 Subaru outback 2.5i premium, with only 54k miles on it.My car decided not to start one morning (3 months ago now), figured it was time to replace my battery due to the fact I knew it was coming. Corrosion around the terminals was obvious, and a few other signs indicating that it the time was coming. So, went to AutoZone with the battery I removed from my car. When the guy brought out the battery his system showed was the one for my car, I noticed it looked significantly smaller than the manufacture one that was in my car originally, he said they started making batteries smaller but it will work for my car. Checked online, it does work for my car just doesn't seem like it is as strong, but does work. Anyways, installed it.. however the man helping me had put the battery in backwards (Didnt think this was possible) as soon as he connected the cables to my car, my cars horn began going off as a solid blare. We disconnected and reconnected it properly, however now my car will not start. It will not turn over but you can hear it try. My dash lights still come on, my radio will not, my steering wheel is locked, and now my key fob is not recognized by car and will not lock or unlock my car (It is not a remote start). I read it could have blown my main fuse, so I found my fuse box and located my main fuse. However, i do not know how to remove the fuse to check to see if it is blown.
Check engine came on, hooked it up and pulled a few different codes- all saying no communication to different modules.
It wont allow me to post a picture but this is a link with a forum that has a picutre of the same fuse box.....https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/main-fuse-failure-2015-legacy-wouldn%E2%80%99t-start.503637/ do i remove the fuse without risking messing something up? It's intimidating to me because it looks like i might need to unscrew the screws to check it out..
If this is not the problem, I'm at a complete loss at to what the issue would be. I do not have a lot of money to take it to a mechanic shop and so I am really trying to fix it myself if I can.
Please help.. please all advice and opinions are welcome. I need to get my car fixed asap

2023.01.09 07:57 LikeCarDetailingau How to Properly Detail a Car

📷

Introduction

Detailing is a necessary ritual if you want your car to shine. The process can be time-consuming, especially if you're doing it yourself. But there are several steps that can help make the process go faster and easier so that your car detailing adelaide looks like new again. We'll cover everything from washing and waxing the entire exterior of your car, cleaning the interior's leather seats/trim with conditioner, shampooing carpets and floors, vacuuming upholstery (including under seats), cleaning out vents/dashboards/gobs of melted gum stuck under seats (yes). Let's get started!

Clean the Exterior

Now that the interior is clean, it’s time to turn your attention to the exterior. Your first step will be to wash and dry your vehicle using a pressure washer. If you don't have access to one, you can use a hose with a high-pressure nozzle or even just cold water from the tap. Use an extremely concentrated solution of dish soap; again, don’t let this deter you from preparing at least two gallons of soap foam!
After rinsing off all of the dirt and grime with your pressure washer, wipe down your car with microfiber towels until it's completely dry. Next up is clay bar treatment: this process helps remove contaminants like tar, bugs and tree sap without damaging paintwork by hand-detailing each panel individually first before applying wax or sealant later on top of everything else for protection against UV rays (more on these steps in later sections).

Wash and Wax Your Car

Clean Your Windows

Once you've cleaned your car's exterior, it's time to work on the windows. The first step is to use a window cleaner. Make sure that you choose one that is designed for glass and not plastic or vinyl, as these cleaners will leave streaks on your windshield. Next, grab a microfiber cloth and spray some of the clean water onto its surface; this will allow you to wipe away any dirt or grime from the window without scratching up your car's paint job. Finally, use a squeegee with minimal pressure (but enough force) in order to remove any excess moisture from the glass before moving on to another section of interior or exterior detailing work.
Do not use newspaper as an alternative cleaning method because it will scratch your windshields—and if there's one thing we learned from Disney movies growing up, it's never go against Grumpy!

Vacuum the Interior

Vacuuming the interior of your car is a necessary part of detailing. It will remove dust, dirt and other particles from the surface of your car's interior. You can use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to reach into cracks and crevices (such as in-between seats), as well as tight areas that might be difficult to get to with just the suction head.
Use a crevice tool to clean door panels and other hard-to-reach areas on your vehicle’s interior. Alternatively, use an upholstery attachment for cleaning seats and other soft surfaces that may be difficult to clean using traditional cleaning tools like those listed above

Shampoo the Interior

Next, you'll want to wash the interior of your car. To do this, use a mild soap and soft-bristled brush on all surfaces, including seats and mats. Remember that proper cleaning requires you to wash every surface in the car including door panels, armrests and consoles.
Finally rinse thoroughly with clean water before drying with a microfiber towel or chamois cloth.

Condition Leather Seats and Trim with Leather Conditioner

Using a leather conditioner is an important part of the detailing process. Leather conditioner will help prevent cracks and scratches, while also helping to keep your seats looking great.
To properly condition leather seats, you will need to apply a thin layer of the leather conditioner on the surface of the leather seat using a soft cloth or sponge applicator. Wipe off any excess after application with another soft cloth or sponge applicator. Wait 20 minutes for it to dry before sitting in your car’s seat again!

Remove Odors From The Interior

When it comes to the interior, it's best to use a damp cloth to wipe down any stains and then follow up with a mild cleaner if needed. If there are stubborn stains, consider using a steam cleaner or other product that can safely remove them. For carpeting, vacuum away dirt and debris before steaming the carpeting clean. Your car's seats and floors should be cleaned either with a steam cleaner or by applying soap water directly onto them and scrubbing them gently until they're clean again.

2022.12.24 03:44 Gero1700 2016 Jetta. Need to fix horn. Difficulty? Best way to go about it?

Hello! Have a 2016 VW Jetta Tsi. Horn had been weak last year and in last couple weeks just went out. First noticed when I locked my car and no sound occurred. Usually I wouldn’t even mind but with it being winter, I need the horn in case of sliding or other drivers.
Was wondering if someone had a link to the best way to replace the horn? And where to buy said horn? Tried going to autozone and other locations but no dice. They were telling me to get it replaced at a dealership but I’d rather try to do it myself.
