Throughout college, I worked jobs not oriented to my career; seasonal, barista, university reporter..
In my 3 years post graduation, I’ve worked for 4 different companies as a sales representative. The first was 36K base so dipped out quick. Got PIP’d out of the next, and left the third for a much higher paying job.
My tenure is not good, but what I know is it’s not my character, I’m just not that good at selling (cold calling, etc). At least at high frequencies.
With tech and work from home (WFH) being a huge trend, I’m sure many ppl are in similar positions being in sales.
What careers outside of sales can I use my experience to transition to? Am I stuck in the gulags of sales?

Years ago I acquired these two devices (Apple eMac A1002 and Apple iMac G3 M5521) for next-to-nothing at an estate sale and am looking to finally offload them on eBay.
Both are running Mac OS X 10.3.9. Both seem to have broken CD drives (one has a CD stuck inside which it reads but is unable to eject, the other does not seem to read/work at all).
On either PC, I have been unable to boot into any sort of recovery mode, disk utility, or boot manager. I have tried ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘cmd’, ‘cmd’ + ‘R’ and any other possible combination I could find, each many times in many different ways (pressing the keys at different times during startup, holding the key(s) and/or continuously mashing them, etc.) to no avail. I have been able to boot into single-user mode which allowed me to create new admin users as I didn’t have the passwords for the computer’s original accounts.
I have found numerous versions of Mac OS X Panther & Tiger, primarily on archive.org (and all supposedly compatible with PowerPC) which I have tried to boot into as .iso and .dmg from a flash drive and from burned CDs (running on an external CD drive).
Every time, I am able to view/access/run the Install Mac OS X programs while the computer is logged in. I can run them, click to install Mac OS X, and click the restart button when prompted by the installation process. But both computers only reboot back into Mac OS as the default users without running any installation. And as mentioned above, I have been unable to reach any boot menu that would allow me to erase the HDD or boot from USB/CD.
Any help would be immensely appreciated!!

Hi all! So here’s the situation: I played pretty competitively until I finished high school. After that, with all the twists and turns of life, I didn’t really play at all for the following 12-13 years. About 2 years ago, I got back into it again, and I’ve been obsessed to say the least. I treated myself to a blade 98 v7 and a PS97 v13, jumping back and forth between them over about a year. Then I got hit with the gear bug, and decided to try a 2022 Ezone 98. Then I noticed the 2020 Ezone tours go on sale, and picked one of those up, and then another, as I’ve been really enjoying those and finding my game with them.
The other day, I was hitting next to someone who was using an older Wilson ncode six-one 95, and was hitting beautifully. The picture showed a racquet with a broken string, and someone had questioned how long the racquet stayed that way, as the racquet could warp. So, I decided to look into it, and it seems like some people mention that it’s bad to keep a broken string on a racquet for an extended period of time, while others note that it’s a myth, with that not really being an issue with more modern racquet technology. I could see that being the case with wooden racquets, but agree that it does seem more like it’d be a myth, despite the length of time it sat. So, what do people think about the myth of the warped racquet? Is there something to worry about in regards to the racquet having sat this way for 15 years? Has anyone had experience re-stringing a racquet that sat in a similar manner for an extended period of time? Thanks!

I was driving home from KFC today around 1 pm on 32 going towards downtown and I was just about to hit the intersection right before you go under the highway bridge , the light was green (turned green about 20 seconds before I reached the intersection) I was going the speed limit and no one was in my lane . (There we’re in my right lane though) When I got maybe a quarter of the way in to the intersection a woman in a white ford suv was speeding maybe double the speed limit and I was barely able to notice her in time because she was going so fast that I barely was able to hit the breaks and get my car to stop maybe a few feet away from her car and she sped by on to the on ramp on to the 99.
I’ve lived here for almost 2 years and have been almost involved in so many accidents of almost getting hit because of reckless driving. lm from the Bay Area and never experienced this many close calls until I moved here.

My wife's SQ5 is great for daily family stuff, but fills up quickly when we go on trips with the baby, dog, and all our gear. I've always wanted a Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 for a family adventure car, but prices since COVID have been a little crazy. So I put a note saying I was interested in buying this Q7 that was parked around the corner from my work (that wasn't for sale). Turns out the elderly man who bought it new in 2013 was looking to sell, as it was too big for him. We negotiated $12k (it was in a minor accident) and I drove it home! Absolutely loving it so far! I'd love to tune it, but not sure if there's a CA legal flash available... I already picked up a cheap set of 18" wheels to host some all terrain tires for camping & light off road adventuring during hunting season. When it comes time to replace the suspension components, I'll probably give it a 2" lift from Eurowise. |

Hello guys, my story gets a bit complicated, so I will try my best…
I’m a 37 male & I am married with 2 kids. Life took a turn for the worst 3 years back. My father was always self-employed & had a successful business. I never held down a job because I worked with my father.
About 5 years ago, we were expanding the business & money became short. Nothing made sense, because we were making good money so did not understand why we were short on money. After I did a financial audit, I realized my fathers business partner & brother in law was stealing money. After I told my father about this, it destroyed him & the business. We lost everything.
Being 31 & never holding down a job, I got into car sales. It was the only thing i figured if I bust my butt, I can make a decent living (no degree or job history)
That’s what I did. Fast forward to today, I sell RVs. I have made over 100k every year that I have been in sales. However, I had massive debts to pay, because I had credit card debt from the business, and I owed the IRS over 30k.
My parents sold their home & are currently renting. After selling their home, they left 100k with me.
Knowing that they have no retirement & the 100k would eventually run dry on rent, I did not know what to do. I invested it in cryptocurrency. The 100k is now 35k. They know nothing about this.
I still have the crypto, but I live in shame every day. I do not know what to do or how to go about making the losses back & helping my parents live the life they deserve. They are great people, and did it deserve none of this. I don’t want to tell them, as my dad recently has got better about the fact that his brother in law stole from him.
I am devastated & live on guilt & depression. It’s not right, because I have a wife & 2 kids. I can’t live like this. I need to be strong & be a provider for everyone, but I do not know how.

Hi all! I have a good problem right now... I am torn between staying with my current company or moving on to a new one.
I work as an operations specialist for a research startup at US. Good pay (100k+), flexible hours, and work from home. I was the only Filipino in the team, until they decided to add more this year. The new hires work during the US office hours unlike me. Since they started, I've been getting less tasks but I still work on recurring/default tasks. However, I feel less useful... and a bit worried about my job security. My managers don't really ping me that much anymore that I worry if I will get laid off. I also notice that I literally just drag myself to work here every day, and I feel disengaged and demotivated.
So I started applying to other US startups. I'm in the interview process with 1 healthcare startup. I like them. I feel that I'll learn a lot. I'll work closely with the Chief of Staff, and maybe other functions as well because I'll work as an EA. However, they're still building out the sales organization of the team for their product. That's the focus for the next 6 months or so. Push the product out there and beat the competitors to get ahead. It's very fast-paced, which I like.
The thing is... my current company doesn't have a product since we're a research company. We're very well funded, as in billions. But, I feel disconnected, disengaged, demotivated to keep working here. I'm also starting to see that they don't value me, and they have favoritism.
The healthcare startup I'm interviewing for... I have no idea if they will be successful in their mission. They aren't as deep-pocketed as my current company, but they're backed by big investors and venture capital funds so I guess that shouldn't be too worrisome... However, I think I could have a new start at this healthcare company with all the things I learned from my current company, and make an impact. But, it's going to be an intense ride for the next 6-12 months and there will be a lot of work. Btw the working hours will be fixed, US time.
Tldr: I'm torn between staying with a well-funded company where I feel I'm getting less useful each day OR move on to a product-based company, learn new things and get a restart, but have no idea if it will fare well.

1) Ka Bar Space Force Edition TDI, AUS 8 zytel handle and hardshell (kydex?) sheath.
really neat little fixed blade. I was gonna carry it but never did, it was opened and messed around with but never cut anything or used. Its sat on the shelf for a while and needs a new home. its essentially a self defense knife but its comfortable and full of utility as well as high quality build from Ka Bar. Its never ben reprofiled or anything like that its all straight from the Taiwan factory. Im simply not cool enough to appendix carry this knife but I know you are.
2) Kershaw Launch 10, Teal aluminum handles, button auto, wicked little 1.9" hawkbill 154CM blade.
I bought this used on the swap and it was supposed to be a gift for a friend but I'm second guessing that idea and went with something else. I have not cut or carried this piece at all. It has nice strong action, a very cool/sharp 154CM blade, nice deep carry pocket clip, and such snazzy light tiffany blue aluminum body. USA made Kershaws are a great value and this one can faithfully stick by your side unlike my ex- girlfriend.
3) Kizer sheepdog 3.3", Black Micarta scales, 154CM blade.
Last but not least, the one of the trio of knives that has been carried lightly. Fall shut action, solid lockup, sharp and very useful design. Has not been reprofiled or resharpened, only stropped on leather after cutting a couple of packages and a box. I greatly enjoy this knife but as i continue to buy and sell and rotate knives, others make their way into my pocket instead. Everyone knows the sheepdog and if you dont have one, you should try one out. This middle sized 3.3 inch blade is the best imo and my favorite. So much so, it hurts to sell but not as much as being cheated on.
4) MTECH model 1034 manual button lock, black aluminum scales, deep carry clip, no idea steel.
Ok say what you will about mtech but this one is actually kinda cool. I wont lie to you like how my girlfriend lied to me. Its not an expensive knife but its kinda cool to mess with if you dont have a button lock knife. It makes neat metal noises opening and closing it. Its missing a screw on the pocket clip but youre not going to carry this anyway, if you did i dont think itll matter since you have bigger problems at hand anyway...

2023.06.01 23:32 gantosfc Renovate or save to pay down mortgage?
We are a couple- 41 & 38. Sold a flat in London last year and moved up the chain to a small terraced house in zone 4. We took on a bigger mortgage to keep some cash back from the sale to renovate and extend the house. (Equity release essentially) House was £675k, mortgage £535k (80% LTV). Repayments around £2200 p/m from shared net income of around £8k. Foolishly got a 2 year fix and we'll need a new mortgage late 2024. Have around £90k in savings. The conundrum is whether to proceed with the planned renovation work- loft conversion, side extension, new kitchen, bathroom etc using these savings. Pro's- This would obviously add value to our home and would create a better place to live for us and possible future family. Not sure how the valuation system works but I'd hope that banks would take the improvements into account when remortgaging to hopefully get a lower LTV for the next mortgage. I can do some trade work myself so can definitely reduce reliance on tradesmen to save some money. Won't be able to do everything but can definitely help with costs. Putting our own stamp on the home will make it feel like it's really ours! Con's- The big mortgage we have and the increase in our repayments we'll have when we remortgage next year. At say 5% interest (our current rate is 2.7) our repayments will be up around £3k. On shared income of £8k that's doable but represents a big chunk of our income. Falling house prices- is it mad to be investing more into a decreasing asset? The house is currently liveable with no urgent repairs required. What do you think? Fix it up or pay it down?

Hello, I have received an e-mail from eBay today that because my turnover from last year was over 10k, I have become subject to pay VAT to EU countries according to a law from July 2021, when things sold cross-border below 22€ are no longer VAT exempt on import.
My question is, will I be liable to pay VAT for the previous year's worth of sales? Or only from now on? I am scared because I was unfortunately ignorant of this international law, and it could really put me in red if I had to do so. I understand that VAT is paid by the buyers, but in this case they'd probably charge me.

I got an offer to interview for a sales and use tax auditor position within the Department of Taxation. Does anyone know what the job is like? Is there a lot of driving to different business locations? They say it's a "work from home" position but given the driver's license requirement, I'd imagine it would also entail some local travel.
