Mlb minimum salary 2022
Another rant by yet another stranger who got burned by another employer at another new job.
2023.03.25 01:47 Itstotallysafe Another rant by yet another stranger who got burned by another employer at another new job.
TLDR: Employer made promises, didn't deliver, now I have to go hunt for another job. Again. Standard rant.
I took my most recent job because it was a small, local company with a decent reputation. They had an opening that matched my skill set and could honestly use my help.
I have decades of experience in my industry and can't abide working for huge corporations anymore. I just don't have the patience for the office politicking and related bullshit. I know smaller companies usually have their own problems, especially when it comes to compensation, but I figured I could do some good, help out a local company, etc.
I crushed the interview. I gave them three things they could start doing, that day, to make things easier on themselves. Two of them they implemented before my first day. The third requires more capital than they have available at the moment, but they're planning for it.
During my interview I told them three things I would absolutely need to come work for them. First was my minimum salary, which was heavily discounted compared to my previous job. Since I'd be commuting over an hour each way, and then using my vehicle for work, I'd need mileage reimbursement. Last, I'd need some basic medical/dental/vision benefits.
They agreed to everything, but then tweaked things a bit before I started. This should've been my first red flag.
As for the salary, it was more than they had budget for, but they could get me there within the year providing I could deliver on everything I told them I'd do. We agreed to a phased salary increase every 90 days.
My 90 day probation was up two pay periods ago. Pay still hasn't been corrected, but technically my hiring paperwork doesn't reflect that so there's some issue in accounting.
I was promised a gas card but instead have been given some gift card bullshit that gets reloaded when someone remembers. Ive also been told Im not reimbursed for mileage to and from the office, as nobody else is. Not what we agreed to, but I've let it slide because they're a small outfit and I felt bad.
Lastly, no benefits. I was told I'd have them after 90 days but they're supposedly still shopping plans and something will be in place by the end of the month. During the last 90 days we've had flu, covid, and strep outbreaks in the company. (We're out in public and in people's homes so that's typical.) I've been sick multiple times with no insurance. I've been lucky nothing serious happened.
I just feel so stupid. Stupid for trusting this small company to live up to their word when my experience tells me most companies won't. Stupid for thinking this time would be different. Stupid for giving them the benefit of the doubt and making concessions for them.
It's just extra shitty because I've been kicking ass. I like to work on things that are interesting to me. I like making a difference. But, fuck, I have bills to pay and their bullshit is financially compounding my expenses. First, base pay is less so I can't save anything. Second, commute is worse so I'm spending more. Third, no benefits so if anything health related happens I'll be out of pocket.
So now I have to go back into the shitty merry-go-round of job hunting and it's Just. So. Exhausting.
(Ok, rant over. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.)

2023.03.25 01:35 Pretty-Technologies AI Advancements and the Need for Universal Basic Income: A Timely Debate
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to make extraordinary advancements, it's becoming increasingly apparent that its impact on the job market is profound. Many people now face the risk of losing their jobs to AI-powered automation, which raises important questions about the future of work and financial security.
With this in mind, is it time to seriously consider the concept of a universal basic income (UBI) or citizen's salary as a potential solution? A UBI would guarantee a minimum income for every individual, regardless of their employment status, which could alleviate financial stress and promote a more equitable society.
Some proponents argue that a UBI could foster a sense of freedom and creativity, allowing people to pursue their passions and contribute to society in more meaningful ways. Critics, on the other hand, contend that it could lead to a lack of motivation and discourage people from seeking work.
As we continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of AI and automation, it's crucial that we engage in thoughtful discussions about the merits and drawbacks of a UBI. This debate is more relevant than ever, as it will help us determine the best course of action to secure a prosperous future for all.
Let's open up the conversation: What are your thoughts on the implementation of a universal basic income in response to AI-driven job displacement?

2023.03.25 01:16 HagridsSexyNippples What would you do in this situation?
I am 30 years old and I am a teacher. I have a mental illness and take medication for it. Unfortunately I can’t take this medication while pregnant or breastfeeding. I do want children, but it would be hard to be a new parent and be a teacher without being on my medication. I think it would be best for me if I only focus on one thing, raising my potential kids. I would like to be a stay at home mom, but my worry is that when I go back to apply for a job no one will hire me because I would command to high of a salary. I can’t have kids right now due to financial reasons, but in three years I hope to rectify the situation. I am aware that I could file for FMLA, but what if I want multiple children? Even if I have my kids close together, I would be at minimum 2 years on it. Do they let people stay on FMLA for so long? Am I worrying for nothing? Im just so worried that if I leave it would be impossible to go back to a public school. I’m a special education teacher in MA for reference.

2023.03.25 00:53 Phenom_Mv3 Paying of cc debt in full - best way to negotiate a discount
So I have about $4.7K of credit card debt with 28Degrees/Latitude Finance that I would like to clear ASAP.
If I remember correctly from the PDS, you can negotiate a settlement figure if you wish to clear the whole lot in full.
Can anyone with knowledge/ experience with this provide tips on the best way to go about this to maximise chances of a decent settlement say $3.5-4K? The interest rate is 23% p.a. The minimum payment is $120 or so. I recently cancelled insurance payments on the cc to lower the accruing monthly amount.
I have been disabled and unable to work for the past few years and probably should have sorted this out sooner, but the whole c’link process was a long winding bi*** not to mention how debilitating my condition is. Surely my health/being on disability pension factors in when negotiating a decent discount?
Also, I’m not sure if I was legally obliged to tell them when I stopped working since I provided my current employment / salary, etc years ago when I applied for the card.
Thanks everyone

2023.03.25 00:41 watsonandholmes How to leave my research associate position?
I’ve only been working in my molecular biology lab for 10 months, but have realized that I don’t think that molecular research is for me. The bench work is fine and I’m good at it, but it’s not fulfilling to me, and I’m realizing that I’d be much more fulfilled in a position where I get to work with people.
A friend of mine is leaving their clinical research position and referred me for the job, and I just received an offer that is 10k a year more than I currently make (I make a little above minimum wage). It’s a better position and a better salary, and I’m going to accept it, but I don’t know how to break it to my PI. I’m in a really small lab and I’m working on my own independent projects, so my coworkers don’t really know what I do. I don’t think there will be time to hire someone new before I leave, so I’m not sure how the new person is going to be trained. My PI has no idea that I plan on leaving, but I want to tell them as soon as possible. I was able to delay my new start date so I can give 3 weeks notice.
How do I tell me PI that I’m leaving without burning a bridge? My PI is a super reasonable person, but they were expecting me to stay for two years and I’ll be leaving after 10 months.

2023.03.25 00:32 Albanianverse Am I the Ahole for leaving my job without a notice.
Okay, so this is going to be a long rant, but I want your honest opinion because I don't believe my own judgment anymore. I'm 21 F, and I need to mention that this was my first ever official job and it was so stressful I started doubting myself if I was stupid for not being able to do anything right even though I was there for two months already. So, my boss was really friendly at first and everything was going so well and I was so happy to have finally found a job because I've always focused on my studies and, except for internships, I've never had an actual job, and to top that, it was what I've always dreamed of doing. But since the first week, something didn't feel right and I should have listened to my gut feeling and left right then. But when I told my boss I wanted to leave, he started calling me the whole day and telling me I was a great employee and he was not intending to let me go, and because I'm easily persuaded (manipulated), I decided to go back. But after that day, I started hating my job and my life in general. I would wake up in the morning, go to work, come back home and fall asleep because of how tired I was and repeat the same thing again and again for two whole months. He was never happy with my work and he'd change his mind about everything all the time, and if he said I should do something this way today, he'd scold me for doing it the same way tomorrow. I couldn't do my job properly because I had no idea what he was expecting from me. That was frustrating for both of us, of course, because I was not able to do my job properly and I didn't deserve the salary I was getting, even though it was literally the minimum wage. Imagine how badly I was doing. And not to mention that I was supposed to have two free days during the week, but there was always an excuse when those days came, like I stayed too long on my break and I should compensate for that, etc. And because I'm a person who doesn't like confronting anyone, I would always agree on whatever he said. Like if he said I stayed too long I'd even apologise and say it wouldn't happen again when in fact it wasn't the case at all. He'd call me whenever he wanted and my shift would always extend until the closing hours, even if I was there before every other employee, I was supposed to stay later than everyone else. There was this one time I clearly remember when I arrived at work at the same exact time as this other coworker and when it was time to go home, he turned toward her and said you can go, she is staying. And I, like the stupid person that I am, still continued to stay and allow him to walk all over me. And when I finally decided it was enough, apparently he wasn't expecting that and didn't take me seriously. But this is where I might be an AH a little bit, because this was the busiest week of all time and he was understaffed, so he planned everything with me on his mind because he knew I would always be at his service. So I went there for the last day, working through his insults for "8" more hours, and waited for my shift to end so I could tell him I was not coming back again and walked out of the door even though I knew he didn't really believe me. He thought I would at least help him for that week, but when I went home I blocked him from everything. I might have been immature and unprofessional, but I cried after so long that day and when I woke up in the morning and when I realised I didn't need to go there anymore, I felt relieved. But some people told me I should've at least stayed for one more week since I put him in a tough position.

2023.03.25 00:32 epoch_fail MLB Pipeline's 2023 Prospect Rankings
Notes (Hitters/Fielders)
- Risers: Werner Blakely (15 to 8), Kyren Paris (19 to 10)
- Steady (+/- 2): Logan O'Hoppe, Zach Neto, Edgar Quero, Denzer Guzman, Adrian Placencia, Jeremiah Jackson, Nelson Rada
- Fallers: Randy De Jesus (16 to 25), Alexander Ramirez (17 to -), Arol Vera (18 to 29), Jordyn Adams (20 to 30), Jadiel Sanchez (28 to -)
- Newcomers: Livan Soto (wow), David Calabrese, both of whom were on the list in 2021
Notes (Pitchers)
- Risers: Chase Silseth (7 to 4), Walbert Urena (22 to 17), Mason Erla (24 to 18), Eric Torres (26 to 23), Ryan Costeiu (27 to 19), Victor Mederos (29 to 20), Nixon Encarnacion (30 to 24)
- Steady (+/- 2): Ky Bush, Sam Bachman, Ben Joyce, Caden Dana, Coleman Crow
- Fallers: Jake Madden (9 to 13), Landon Marceaux (10 to 22), Mason Albright (23 to -), Luke Murphy (25 to -)
- Newcomers: Jose Soriano, Jorge Marcheco
My Notes
Hitters
- Huge fall for Jordyn Adams, who was #3 on the Angels list in 2021, but is in danger of falling off altogether. Turns out drafting or signing guys with huge athletic gifts and hoping they figure it out is not a great strategy. Who knew? Jordyn Adams was drafted in the first round in 2018 and he batted an OPS of .650 across A+ and AA ball this past season. That's not what you want to see from a 23 year old. Contrast that with Edgar Quero, who is 19 and just batted .965 OPS at A ball, while Adams only reached around .700 OPS at A ball when he was 19 despite huge speed and raw power. There's still hope here, but with Adell graduating and other young outfielders making their way through the system (Nelson Rada, Randy De Jesus, David Calabrese), he's slowly running out of time.
- In what is proving to be a good problem to have, there's some positional overlap among the prospects. In addition to O'Hoppe and Quero, which I trust will sort itself out since Quero's timeline is quite a bit longer, decisions on infield personnel will have to be made between seven guys: Neto, Guzman, Blakely, Placencia, Jeremiah Jackson, Paris, and Livan Soto, most of whom play SS or 2B. Werner Blakely is the odd man out in that list who's mainly a 3B, but I figured I'd mention him because that's the other position the other guys would be asked to try out for if the logjam becomes cumbersome. Obviously, it's a few years until this problem rears its head for real, with Livan Soto the first one who will continue to get a crack at the lineup along with Michael Stefanic, probably followed by Zach Neto, Jeremiah Jackson, and Kyren Paris in due time. Also don't be surprised if any of them get moved for a hot OF or 1B prospect, since it's a bit thin there by comparison.
- FanGraphs' Depth Charts projects the Logan O'Hoppe to play regular time platooned with Stassi, a little playing time for Livan Soto, and some innings for Chase Silseth, Ben Joyce, and Eric Torres. Obviously, this is not a cut-and-dry projection, but it's certainly telling how so many of the worthwhile prospects are currently with the Trash Pandas.
- No 1B and only 1 3B in the top 30. Just thought that was interesting.
Pitchers
- The plan to only pick pitchers for one draft seems to be paying off, though it wasn't necessarily the people we were expecting all along. Seven pitchers: Bachman, Bush, Marceaux, Costeiu, Silseth, Torres, and Erla, were drafted in 2021, with Costeiu (7th), Silseth (11th), Torres (14th), and Erla (17th) spread out around later rounds.
- Generally speaking, Chase Silseth, Ben Joyce, Jake Madden, and Caden Dana (along with 28th rounder Coleman Crow) proved that you don't have to be drafted in the first couple rounds (Bachman, Bush, Detmers before, etc.) to emerge as a top prospect in the minors, and there's a nice mix of potential starters, relivers, and middle relievers down there.
- I don't know if it's the person ranking these doing better or just the recognition for certain players catching up to them, but I remember looking through the stats for the minor league teams and wondering why guys like Eric Torres and Coleman Crow (21 and already a workhorse at AA) didn't show up on the prospects ranking. It also made me wonder how guys like Jordyn Adams and Arol Vera took so long to fall. Luckily, those inconsistencies have now been rectified.
Not Listed
- The other guys I'm keeping an eye out for are Trey Cabbage (
catcher OF/1B/3B in AA who was hitting well until he was sidelined for the rest of last season with injury), Kolton Ingram (solid numbers as a reliever in AA), and Robinson Pina (SP who crushed it at A+, was moved straight to AAA, and got predictably shelled, so he'll probably be brought back down to AA).

2023.03.25 00:21 Wizard_IT [NY] Turning down promotion due to pay, is it possible to negotiate?
I have a kind of odd situation I am in. I work doing IT remotely and my current manager would like me to move into management. I went from being kind of low on the totem pole when I was first hired to being quiet high on it after a couple of promotions. The problem is that my pay has not kept up at all after the promotions and my current employer has brought up to me how much more I make than everyone due to the HCOL area I am in. Even though my pay in my area is super low. I love my job and my boss is awesome, but personally I dont want to move into management for this company without some serious $$$. Not to sound like an ass, but for the extra stress it would not be worth it.
I know how to do the job and am ready (hence why I am being asked). My performance reviews over the years have also all been 10/10. If they have to hire for this role on the open market, it would be anywhere from at least $120k minimum to around $180k in HCOL areas. Is it possible to inform my manager that I am not interested until I know the salary range and can negotiate? They legally have to tell me the salary range in the state I reside if I go through the process, but I have a feeling they would not want to give me much of a boost in pay since they know what I currently make.
My title is also currently similar, so I am not looking to "have the role on my resume" since it would be meaningless. Anyways, just wanted to see an HR perspective on this since they know how things work on the back end. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

2023.03.25 00:15 BiPickleBear 21F/27M, advice on household chores
Background: I met my husband, let’s call him Mike to keep it anonymous, in April of 2022. We got engaged in June of 2022 and married in January of 2023. We met in college while participating in the same program.
My husband was raised with parents who are very very rich and his mother took care of all of the cooking/cleaning. Where I grew up with only my father, so I was in charge of cooking and cleaning since I was 10.
The issue: My husband and I current contribute 50/50 financially for bills, but I found I was doing all of the housework including grocery shopping and cooking. I wouldn’t have an issue with this if he was taking more care of me financially, but he isn’t. In addition, we’ve been letting one of his friends stay in our spare bedroom (he pays a portion of bills) while he’s inbetween places. The friend is very dirty and never cleans anything and the bathroom got disgusting for me to do because it would be covered in boy pubes and toothpaste grime. We had a conversation and although I wanted to split things more evenly, he doesn’t “know” how to do a lot of things. I settled on that if he kept up the bathroom really nice that it was fine that I did literally everything else.
The issue now becomes that he doesn’t keep up with the bathroom. He says that he doesn’t see the things that I think are “dirty”. I have taken him into the bathroom at least 4 separate times since this has become his responsibility (September of 2022 so about 6mo) to explain the things that are dirty and why they need to be cleaned. When he does clean it he asks me what products to use and how to do it. The first few times were fine because I can understand that he wasn’t taught these things, but now it’s become annoying. The point of him taking the bathroom was so that it wouldn’t be on my plate. But he does the absolute bare minimum every single time he does it so it’s never actually fully clean. I thought that it might just be time and practice he needs so I’ve tried to be patient and nice. He’s been receptive to our conversations and accepts that he needs to improve but I don’t feel like he ever actually changes anything.
I’ve left this topic alone for a while because I don’t want our “roommate issues” to become “marriage issues” because at the end of the day it’s just a bathroom. But, I’m wearing thin.
I am a vegan and gluten free so I have to cook all my food. I had a surgery in January and we had a conversation about it because I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the house or cook for a few weeks while I healed. I specifically asked him to keep up with the dishes and make me food during this time. I offered to show him how to cook my food ahead of time but he declined it every time. So, to help him get through taking care of me I prepped some meals. When I was hungry he fed me that. After the peeped food ran out he started to act upset when I’d tell him I needed food. He’d roll his eyes, sigh, and say he didn’t want to make anything. So id be hungry for like 4+ hours before I’d actually get fed.
2 days into that and I talked to him about it. I said it was unacceptable behavior. He apologized and made me food. The next day he tried to make me food, but asked me how to do it. I told him to Google it because I’d offered to show him weeks ago and I physically couldn’t with my healing process. I knew his cooking wouldn’t be mine but he wouldn’t even Google how to make the food and it was unbearable.
Now, I’m able to cook for myself BUT he did not keep up with the dishes like I asked. So literally every single dish is dirty. I said something a week ago and he said he’d work on it. Nothing for 2 days so I asked again. He did one load. It’s been three more days and he unloaded the dishwasher and has yet to do another. It’s now at a point where I don’t have dishes to make myself food and with my diet I have to cook.
I’m just at a loss. I take care of so much. We’ve had conversations about this and he apologizes but nothing is changing. I don’t know what to do or what to say to him at this point. Is this sexism? What do I do?
More context: I graduated my program last month. He left the program a few months ago because it’s not what he wanted. We are both currently unemployed. I’ve been trying to get him to apply to jobs but he’s been not going to school and not working since October of 2022. It would have been so nice for him to take care of the house and cooking while I finished my program but I still did everything even though he wasn’t doing anything. He started applying in February and has only applied to like 6 positions and hasn’t head anything from any of them. I know he’s been struggling emotionally so motivation has been hard but it’s been so long at this point I’m loosing my empathy. He spends most of his day playing video games.
