2023.03.29 11:53 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 5 Surpasses 150 Million Units Sold As GTA 6 Hype And Rumors Heat Up

Grand Theft Auto V is still going strong nearly eight years after it first debuted on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (remember those?), followed by a slightly newer re-release on Windows PCs and the the PS4 and Xbox One. To date, publisher Take-Two Interactive has sold over 150 million copies of GTA V on various platforms.
The publisher revealed the impressive sales stat as part of its earnings report for its fiscal first quarter of 2022. Looking at the data from the previous quarter, it means T2 sold an additional 5 million copies in the past three months. Not too shabby, given that GTA V is far from a new game at this point. That is not the end of it, either.
T2 plans to launch an "expanded and enhanced version" for the latest generation game consoles, those being the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, on November 11, 2021. Developer Rockstar Games had previously said the updated version will bring "new features and more" to the table, but the details are still largely a mystery.
"The new generation versions of GTAV will feature a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and more responsive than ever," Rockstar Games said last year.
We presume the retooled version of GTA V will tap into the fast storage capabilities of modern consoles, to drastically reduce game load times. It will also leverage the newer hardware in the latest gen consoles, namely the custom SoC based on AMD's Zen 2 CPU cores and RDNA 2 graphics.

2023.03.29 11:44 endlord79 My friends creepypasta

On a sunday afternoon when my parents were gone, I decided to grab a video recorder and binge my favorite episode “Any sport in the storm”. Except when I played the video it immediately cut to Luz chilling at her locker, I didn’t even know why they were in the human realm in their season 3 appearances, but since it was just the beginning of the episode I kept watching. Masha walked in and asked Luz where Amity and the gang were to which Luz told her that they were driving around town while she was gone, then it cut to Amity, Willow, Gus and Hunter in Camila’s car as a car behind them started to get closer until it fades to black with a massive explosion being heard in the background, for a second I heard Boscha’s voice but until I could get a better idea of the voice It cuts back to Luz as she comes home from school and turns on the TV only to be met with a news broadcast talking about a horrific car crash and the 4 victims who got caught in the flames, Suddenly Luz shuts off the TV as she starts crying while her mother comforts her with tissues. Before I can let out the horrifying shock of what I just saw Luz and Camila end up driving to a therapist, unlike the rest of the episode the scene was really calm, Luz was talking about the incident while also talking about how Eda and King sacrificed themselves to keep Luz safe. Then as the therapy session was going to wrap up Luz spotted Boscha in the hallway, when the camera pointed back to Luz who had a shadow smothering her face with only a white pupil and a massive grin peeking out of the darkness, suddenly Luz smashed the emergency box, grabbed the axe and lunged at Boscha as she repeatedly smashed her face in, each time the axe swung into Boscha’s face I flinched a little, after Luz was done her face was completely unidentifiable and Luz wasn’t looking so hot either, her eyes turned into black voids with nothing but a single white dot shining through the darkness, then Luz walked through the door as she started stalking the blonde girl at her school before chopping her head off, I decided I saw enough and tried to deject the disk but it wouldn’t budge, So I was forced to watch Luz as she committed several accounts of murder, at one point after she killed off some emo kid she hid into her house and started creating a pentagram, luckily the sound was cut off for this part so I didn’t have to hear what she was talking about. Then a portal opened to the demon realm as she stepped in and began the killing, the next scenes were more brutal than her other kills, she started killing off most of the Hexside students 1 by 1 including Boscha’s friends. Finally after Luz chopped Viney’s limbs off Bria started shooting at her with a glock she found in the human realm, suddenly they started running, as Bria was running through the town the radio started playing that described skara’s death, “ victim #1 eyeballs and skin were unable to be found, unidentified fingerprints were found near the corpse’s neck”. Bria runs into a dead end in an abandoned house, but before Luz could land a swing the door locks behind her as the building burns down, Bria manages to escape as they call the authorities. My heart finally calmed down, but when I started to take deep breaths Luz sprung up this time with taller limbs made of obsidian and jagged teeth and started killing the guards, suddenly before Luz could kill the final guard a title card popped up reading "Any massacre at midnight” as a depressing piano song played in the background. I was finally able to shut the TV off, but it didn’t even matter at this point. Ever since that day Whenever my friends talk about the owl house I have flashbacks to that fateful night. And it didn’t help that whenever I tried to watch “any sport in the storm” it just sent me to a screen that said “Sorry but the episode can not be found please come back another time” with a black background, and even when I pirated it I just got a very creepy portrait of Luz with a photorealistic pair of eyes and a small, white toothed smile that just kept saying “piracy is a crime”. I don’t really know how to end off this story, I don’t even have any tips on how to steer clear of this episode, I didn’t pirate it, I didn’t buy it from a weird man like most stories, I didn’t even play with an ouija board. But if you ever see this episode just turn the volume to 0, put a blanket over it and have a great sleep.

2023.03.29 11:41 Captn_Thatch Celtic and Rochester: A WoWsL Tier 7 Review

HMS Celtic

USS Rochester (CA-124)

Scope

These ships were given to me by Wargaming for review.
Welcome back. Sure, it does seem rather apt to jump into the first published review in sometime with the addition of two new Baltimores…well, one Oregon-City Cruiser, and another Baltimore. With both ships being so closely related, it seems fitting to tag them both together here. Per the norm, there will be lots of pretty charts, and a comprehensive breakdown of both ships; with the added benefit of showing exactly where these two wrap up into the bigger picture.
All stats are current to the best of my knowledge as of v5.1. Stats are subject to change in the future, and this review may not reflect those changes.
Celtic is a GREAT ship, with a MODERATE Skill Floor and a HIGH Skill Ceiling.
Rochester is an AVERAGE ship, with a LOW Skill Floor and a MODERATE Skill Ceiling.
Quite obviously, this review is going to be mostly centered on Celtic, with some Rochester slapped in there to show exactly how she stacks up to the competition. 2 for 1, or a freebie, you decide.
Nothing could honestly make me happier than to be able to bring reviews and writing to you all full-time. If this interests you and you enjoy reading my work, please support me if you can, as every little bit helps. My goal is to keep my reviews free and public for all to read; and by supporting my Patreon you can help keep me at my desk.

History

The design was first commissioned in the late 1930's, which adapted lessons learned from the preceding Wichita-Class and the currently under construction, lighter Cleveland Class. Baltimore's design featured an orthodox A-B-X configuration of 3 triple turrets of (8") 203mm guns. Fast and well-armed for the era, the fate of the project ended by cancelling later ships construction in favor of the Cleveland Class which were both faster, lighter, and quicker to build which meant more ships out at sea protecting US Navy Carriers. Baltimore Class Cruisers were built from 1941-1945 with some serving in various sub-classes until the 1970's.
With 14 completed ships of the class, the Baltimore-Class had the most constructed heavy cruisers built of any one class from nation during the war-time period. Generally considered a success, the class was preceded by the USS Wichita, and succeeded by the Oregon-City Class. With attached sub-classes, the Boston Class featuring the world's first Guided Missile Cruiser in the early 1950's USS Boston (CAG-1) and Flagship variations. The design was most notable for incorporation of surveillance radar, gun control fire systems which allowed for calculation beyond the horizon, 5'' Anti-Air, and 8'' Main Battery. This design was focused in on the ships ability to be a Carrier Fleet Escort Ship, capable of both Anti-Air Screening, Shore Bombardment, eventually being modified to serve as the world's first guided missile cruiser.
USS Baltimore (CA-68) herself was laid down in 1941, by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts. The ship was launched in 1942 and served until 1956 when she was decommissioned, and eventually scrapped in 1971. The ship served primarily in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, earning 9 battle stars.
HMS Celtic is a made-up ship that never actually existed but rests on the concept that would have been if the Baltimore Class had been sent to the Royal Navy. This was not an entirely foreign concept of the era either, with the two allied nations cooperating heavily with some ships being used by the other’s navy. It would be this cooperation that ultimately played a decisive role in every major theatre of World War 2.
USS Rochester (CA-124) was laid down in the same shipyard as her predecessor, in May 1944. She would be launched in August the following year, then commissioned into the US Navy in 1946. Succeeding the Baltimore Class, the Oregon City Class featured many similarities, with changes to her exhaust, superstructure and Anti-Air Suite. Rochester would serve throughout Korea and Vietnam, being decommissioned in the 1960s, and scrapped in the 1970s. 10 Oregon City Cruisers were planned, with only 4 completed.

The Basics

A Baltimore with a Super Heal and longer-range radar? Sign me up. Baltimore on her own is already one of the stronger ships in the game and in terms of utility, one of the stronger team players. Celtic takes an interesting concept and adds a new flair to an older line. She has her own strengths and weaknesses, all of which will be identified, some of which are likely to be seemingly splitting the finest of hairs. This ship has a bit less of a grudge against controlling caps than the traditional Baltimore but should be readily found in the same niche doing the same things, just slightly different. Radar support, anti-destroyer, area control are all tags that apply. Celtic is strong, strong enough to be thrown in with the likes of AL Baltimore, Mainz CE and Wichita CE.
Trashchester is tough. I’ll honestly do my best to not shred this ship into a bajillion pieces while pouring out the salt, but I’m only human. She was painful on release, and since she’s had work done, fitting for her review to be finally finished and published for you all to use as a dash of seasoning for dinner. On release, Rochester had a smoke fire concealment on par with her sister’s base concealment, meaning, her smoke was essentially pointless and served only to blind herself, and not her opponents. Lacking radar, Rochester presented as a clumsy self-blinding target unable to deal the things that engage her. What’s worse, Rochester trades her heal for her smoke, meaning, players are left purchasing a regular old Baltimore, with some fancy AA, or a deaf-mute without a heal. Yes. She was that painful; a concept that bumps in the worst of ways, both theoretically and in practice. While her concealment has been buffed, it’s still an awful kit as her smoke fire concealment is still too weak to present much of a force upon the caps. If we’re stuck to smoke firing spam, there are better ships than Rochester; even making good old Belfast 43 seem like a knight in shining armor.
Both of these ships do sport improved AP performance, in the shape of improved ricochet angles. We’ll tear this apart in the ballistic section, as per the norm. Baltimore’s ballistic performance has been studied quite extensively in the past, which has set up an excellent point of comparison.

Offense

Let’s start with the prodigal child and then work towards the bought rented mule. Celtic does well here, in terms of heavy cruisers (203mm) she sits nearer the top of the lists dropping more midfield when included with the rest of the pack. Apart from some of those silly DPM small caliber ships, Celtic packs a noteworthy punch. Rochester starts more midfield and holds her placing through the pack. For a 203mm cruiser, a 2s difference in reload is often enough to bump a ship up or down a rank, entirely. This translates to roughly 20k between the two, and about a full salvo difference.

Celtic has among the better AP DPM values for a 203mm armed cruiser, only being outclassed by ships with meatier AP. In terms of overall, Celtic sits more midfield. Her overall AP ballistic performance allows her to unlock more of this actual number than many of her counterparts.

Overall, there’s not all that much to crow about here. Rochester sits a bit lower on the charts than Celtic due to reload. Both have improved ballistics to offer compensation for a lack of torpedoes. The DPM numbers are at their worst, workable, and at best, functional, neither being awful nor spectacular. Celtic takes the edge due to better numbers overall.

Ballistics

The tell-all ballistic chart. Royal Navy Cruisers and US Navy Cruisers sport among the best AP performance in their respective classes and tiers. Celtic has among the best HE DPM numbers of the Baltimores, but takes a hit on her fire chance percentage. Rochester SHAP hits like a truck, along with her Baltimore cousins. Things get interesting here the more you study this chart, captains. Celtic has arguably better HE, but worse AP. Rochester has SHAP and excellent AP performance, but poor shell count. AL Baltimore once again takes the cake with the best “happy medium” of the bunch, sporting a decent shell count, SHAP with excellent penetration and a lower muzzle velocity introducing slightly higher arcs yielding much more forgiving angles on the receiving end…
What I can say definitively, is Baltimore SHAP has much greater penetration than the standard AP. Wichita leans on HE at range, and she has the numbers to back it up, Baltimore hardly ever shoots HE in practice which is backed up by her AP performance and penetration values. Captains, it would not be entirely erroneous in terms of gunnery to compare Stock Baltimore to Celtic and Wichita or Elite Baltimore to Rochester and AL Baltimore.
Ricochet (o) Fuse Time (s) Sigma Velocity (m/s) Projectile
Albemarle 45/60 0.033 2.0 814 AP
AL Baltimore 60/67.5 0.033 1.8 762 SHAP
Balti-Stock 60/67.5 0.033 1.9 853 AP
Balti-Elite 60/67.5 0.033 1.9 782 SHAP
Celtic 60/67.5 0.033 2.0 853 AP
Rochester 60/67.5 0.033 2.0 762 SHAP
Wichita 60/67.5 0.033 1.8 853 AP
Wichita CE 60/75 0.01 2.0 853 AP
The major and palpable difference in performance here is between Celtic and the native Baltimores, is that Celtic lacks SHAP. This means Celtic’s AP shells weigh less, which translates to depleting velocity and thus penetration values faster than the Baltimores heavier shells. Fortunately, Baltimore has some of the best AP penetration in her class which means that Celtic can afford to lose some raw penetration value before she begins to suffer. Rochester wins the AP argument here, while Celtic takes the HE side. It’s almost literally splitting hairs, and Baltimore Mains will feel right at home in either ship.
Fire Chance % HE Pen (mm) Shell Count Velocity (m/s) Projectile
Albemarle 17 33 43 814 HE
AL Baltimore 14 33 49 823 HE
Baltimore 14 33 45 823 HE
Celtic 10 33 54 823 HE
Rochester 14 33 45 823 HE
Wichita 14 33 54 823 HE
Wichita CE 14 33 54 823 HE
If you’re looking to start fires, grab Albemarle. However, this is about the only such category she takes. Celtic manages better with access to a shorter reload and better overall ballistic properties. Shell by shell, edge Rochester, overall, solidly in Celtic’s favor by a full 9 shells.

Torpedoes

Neither of these ships sport torpedoes, so this section is predicably blank.

Defense

Let’s jump into the major category of defense. Celtic arguably may be one of the best, Rochester, rather mediocre. From the top.
Celtic has among the best effective health pools, just edging out Edinburgh with a chunky 66k. It’s worth pointing out Albemarle tops both with a mighty 78k, though most Albemarle tend to be much more passive alluding to a different playstyle entirely. Baltimore is considered “tanky” at 56k, and Celtic adds in a super-heal. I wouldn’t chance to say Albemarle is particularly tanky, but she can heal quite well. A Baltimore is tanky enough to access that 66k EHP and is a scary thought. Baltimore can take a punch, where Edinburgh relies on defense by trickery, clever armor schemes and angling, Albemarle by range and angle. It’s also quite worth mentioning that Celtic rests with 36,7k base HP, meaning on par with most Cruiser Lights. Captains, you will feel getting hit in Celtic. Kit with 9.9km radar, sonar, a super heal, decent armor, excellent AA and workable concealment…captains, this is a literal no-brainer. Celtic is a slightly different twist off some of the most competitive ships in the game.
Rochester is rather tanky like most of her preceding Baltimore cousins. She has the same armor scheme essentially, and similar HP/EHP values. While this would normally be good on its own, Rochester has an Achilles’ Heel. Rochester must choose between having smoke or having a heal, and outright lacks Radar. While she has defensive AA, this is mostly a living meme rather than consistently as effective in combat as Radar. As said before, in terms of smoke cruisers there are just better options some of which don’t involve sacrificing your heal, or even radar. This relegates Rochester to just being a rather average 203mm CA, with very slightly better AA and decent enough armor.
The ranking seems a bit harsh, but that’s generally the difference between the hunter (Celtic), and the hunted (Rochester). Rochester initially will feel getting hit less, due to a larger health pool however, the table quickly swings in favor of Celtic, which gets most of it back.

Armor

This chart below sticks to the USN and RN CA/CLs for now... At some point, this chart will include overmatch and juicy other details for all the cruisers, but for now, it is simple enough to get the point across. Most Cruisers have their critical spaces directly abutting the hull, others don’t. Cruiser armor varies widely and is worth looking at because there are absolutely ships with specific advantages worth exploring and exploiting. For now, let’s keep it simple.
As summarized before, the Baltimore Class has relatively good armor, while it has its weaknesses, is generally functional enough to get by. They are neither needlessly weighed down by their armor, nor under-armored. It’s worth saying Rochester and Celtic have vaguely the same armor lay out and will handle 380mm Battleships.

Anti-Air Suite

Rochester takes the cake here, with better and larger AA guns she’s rather resistant to airborne pests. Celtic ties in with the close second, along with her sisters. The truly beautiful thing about either ship is that captains will not need to waste any energy into building this into making this sector a functional kit. Captains, you can save some defensive energy by focusing into Celtic’s Radar and by leaving Rochester in port. The magic number here is being north of that 350/s line, Azuma scrapes by with a bit of focus, where pretty much all the USN ships will laugh off aircraft. A major point of contention that is worth noting; Rochester is immune, Celtic is quite resistant to CVs, where Albemarle gets by here, and Edinburgh is rather hindered. I suspect this will be massively impactful for competitive players.

Rochester takes the cake here, because everyone deserves to be really good at something. However, with CVs it’s important to remember everything is relative.

Concealment

Technically these are the same values while stock, and their rating is the same. However, this is quite deceiving. Rochester is GOOD leaning on GREAT where Celtic is GOOD leaning on AVERAGE. The reason for this follows their available commanders, which Shelly Beapley offers a unique 4th row concealment skill unavailable to any other commander, or nation. The result of this, Rochester, like her cousins sits at a comfortable 9.3km, where Celtic sits at 9.9km. Rochester can do almost nothing with this concealment, as she lacks radar, and her smoke fire window is just a pale 1.7km below her surface concealment. However, that .6km is a palpable difference and can open huge strategic windows; particularly once south of that magic 10km line.
The obvious connotation here is that hiding a radar cruiser inside 10km is far scarier than hiding a smoke cruiser inside 9.5, provocatively when that same smoke cruiser can be spotted inside her smoke at 7.6km. Captains, this 7.6km is on par with her sisters, however, this is a very narrow margin even for a support cruiser. Smoke is infinitely easier to use than radar, however, infinitely less forgiving.

Maneuverability

Celtic sits almost smack dab of the upper midfield pack of heavy cruisers where Rochester sits more towards the end of the pack. Rochester feels clunky and handles like it, where Celtic feels more “native” to her respective class sharing the same stats. While this is rated good overall, its more average in the face of Lighter Cruisers, representing more of a bang-for-the-buck scenario.

Commanders

Celtic:
Celtic essentially has one commander that is head and shoulders ahead of the rest, while the rest kind of just work. HotRod offers the best fit here inarguably, along with Radar Edinburgh and Radar Minotaur. This sets Celtic up to be a near par build with the USN CA Queen Shelly Beapley. While her 4th row skill’s absence here is certainly felt and results in a 9.9km concealment, the build is largely similar and works well for any radar focused cruiser. While there are other builds out there, this is the gem of the lot and helps unlock that sacred mantra of utility that surrounds the Baltimore Class. Inspirations should focus on concealment, Mikawa and Swirski, to bring Celtic’s detection to pair with her Radar.
HotRod
Rochester:
Nothing can be easy with Rochester, and naturally, building her was to the same effect. Essentially there are two trains of thought for this ship, build into dispersion or build into utility.
AL Montpelier seemed to mesh the best, which then turns Rochester into a little flamethrower capable of merging all her shells into a single pixel. However, this build is rather finicky to use and has a fair number of weaknesses. The build heavily relies on team spotting and is itself a second-line cruiser. Something like a 19-20% fire chance and a nasty dispersion circle. Rochester already has excellent gunnery performance as discussed; Montpelier really sharpens the sword. Pair with AL Scharnhorst and Scott to reduce dispersion and sigma, respectively, even further.
AL Montpelier
It's a rare day when Shelly gets sat down in favor of another commander in the USN CA tree, but I kept falling into the same pitfalls using the same build for similar ships often being able to use radar. Shelly will help bring out Rochester’s utility, but she’s arguably not as well fit in on Rochester as AL Montpelier is. Pair Beapley with concealment inspirations from Mikawa and Swirski and enjoy a very beautiful 9.3km concealment. Rochester has SHAP and excellent penetration values, meaning she can readily ambush and critically strike ships quite larger than her, all without torpedoes.
Shelly Beapley

Consumables

Ok, rather than spell out everything, everywhere, all at once; I’m going to keep it simple here.
Celtic:
  1. Damage Control: Standard, unlimited uses. 60s cooldown.
  2. Sonar: 3km Torp, 4.2km Ship detection. Lasts around 98s when kit with Hot Rod and reloads in 132.
  3. Radar: 9.9km range and lasts about 28s when built.
  4. Heal: 733/s over 20s. Yep, that’s over 14k HP. Reloads in less than a minute too.
Celtic has a near ideal consumable suite. There are some differences off the mainstream, such as slightly less sonar range or shorter radar duration. Glossing over the minor differences, the bigger picture reveals something better. Built, Celtic can regenerate a LOT of health.
Rochester:
  1. Damage Control: Standard, unlimited. 60s cooldown.
  2. Defensive AA: +200% average AA damage. This is memes, it's sort of like a bug zapper for planes.
  3. Sonar: Standard 3.3km/4.4km detection over 96s. The average sonar found on everything.
  4. Smoke/Heal: 30s duration, 104s dissipation time for the smoke. 251/s over 28s for the heal.
Rochester is rather standard in her access to her consumables, with the killer choice between smoke or a heal. I’ve gone back and forth, generally landing on the heal. Rochester is essentially a decent cruiser hampered by her rather average consumable suite.

Modifications

  1. Aiming Systems Mod 1: -7% Dispersion
  2. Steering Gears Mod 2: -20% Rudder Shift
  3. Concealment Mod 1: -10% Detectability
  4. Main Battery Mod 3: -15% Gun Reload
Ok, so the modifications section is super easy because both ships share the same builds. Aiming Systems mod 1 for the dispersion, player’s choice on slot 2 with either propulsion mod 2 or steering gears mod 2. Concealment Mod 1 for slot 3 and finishing off slot 4 by increasing DPM with main battery mod 3.

Upgrades

Research

Summary

Celtic is a joy. Rochester is work.
I can see Celtic becoming a popular contestant in competitive play with the access to that 9.9km radar and her super heal. I rather lamented her HE performance, more due to her lower fire chance then her DPM or ballistic performance. While it would be nice to see her have ¼ pen HE, she doesn’t need it. I find her nicely balanced and well measured to take on Tier 7. She is just unique enough to warrant her own review, whilst similar enough to stay nearer the beaten path. While she may not comfortably and outright usurp Wichita CE and AL Baltimore from their spots, she’s worth mentioning with the group. That’s saying something.
Rochester, well, let’s just say that not everyone can be the best. This ship is tough but can be rewarding in a sense of overcoming the demands of a challenging ships. My issue with Rochester is 2-fold, her smoke and her heal. She ideally needs both to function in this current meta, and running the ship’s gimmick leaves her with abysmal EHP in a plummet from pretty good to 3rd worst overall, which only trumps Harbin and Bayard while being out-healed by Weimar. With a smoke-fire penalty in the mid 7’s km, smoke is hard to use effectively that is not relegated to back line, HE spam. As said before, if we’re really going to be stuck to this, there are ships which do this better. While I love the perspective of a USN CA without radar just to offer something more unique, a USN CA without Radar is like a cart without a horse. Hilariously enough, Rochester seems to avoid CV games like the actual plague, so I suppose that’s one strong point. Otherwise, and largely, captains are left with a rather average 203mm CA.

2023.03.29 11:31 WarmStew23 The War of Tears - Chapter 2

File - Journal Entry Report - Elias Dexter
Species - Human
Date Stamp - December 2, 3023, Standard Union Time
Location - TAS LockHaven, in deep space

The Union accepted our plea for a war declaration. We should have been happy, right? The truth is none of us were happy. Video footage of the Grim’s attack on our expedition spread through the Union media like a wildfire. It was practically impossible not to see it. The Union stated there was going to be a mandatory draft. Something like that didn’t affect us, the Terran Alliance had already met their quota within a week after the draft announcement.
I was already a First Lieutenant in the Terran Alliance’s Army, so any draft already didn’t apply to me. It just meant the most likely scenario was our immediate deployment into no man's land. The Terran Alliance, or TA for short, wasted no time drawing up battle plans. While the rest of the Union drafted and trained their militaries, the Terran Alliance, along with the Luthal Commonwealth were set to launch a coordinated preemptive invasion on the Grim territories. Little is actually known about the Grim, other than the fact that they have the ability to consume us. They have some kind of technology that would allow them to drop us out of FTL in a moment's notice.
But I suppose I should start at the beginning of the battle, I’ll try my best to remember as much as I can. During the briefings we were given we were told we were about to take the planets most likely to be their outer worlds. Planet hopping a few of us even called it. The plan was derived from what the old United States did over a millennia ago in one of their major wars. But what most of us overlooked in the history books was how bloody those battles were.
The first mission would put us on a Grim planet you could say bordered the sol system, it was the closest habitable system to sol inside no mans land. The planet, we would later find out, the Grim called Drug. I'm not sure why the Grim gave one of their planets such a bland name but that was the least of our concerns. Our top priority was to eliminate all military assets on and around the planet. We would conduct orbital bombardment to soften up the anti-air defenses we knew had to be there, then we would drop in all sorts of assets. Tanks, armored vehicles, portable command centers, anything we should need in case of a long, drawn out war.
However, our first mistake was assuming we would make it to Drug easily. I know I mentioned we knew about the FTL disruptors, but the TA must've overlooked that key piece of intel. Hell, we all watched the video of Captain Hugh Adam’s crew. They experienced the FTL disruptors first and even warned us about them. Even the commons soldiers knew that.
I was in the mess hall when it happened, attempting to down what I speculated would be my last good meal for the foreseeable future. My closest friends in the service, Christian Newman, and Julian Smith sat across from me on the other side of the table. When the FTL disruptor hit us, there wasn’t much the Inertial dampeners could do to soften the blow. The table, along with myself, flipped over my two friends. I ended up landing on top of the table, which crushed them both. I rolled over, noticing I spilled some of my dinner on myself.
I quickly helped my friends push the table off of them, both of them rubbing parts of their body that the table must have hit. An alarm started blaring just in time for us to regain our sense of reality.
“That’s the battle sirens,” Julian spits out, “Bastards must have intercepted us, they must really not want us to make it to their planet.”
“Whatever, lets just head to the armory, I’ll fucking kill the bastard who made me spill my potatoes all over my uniform,” I mutter. We jog down to the armory and fit ourselves with our vests, knee guards, helmets, and our weapons of choice. Personally, I prefer a rifle, but Julian has always preferred the shotguns. Whenever we would go to the range to practice our shooting, he always boasted about how he puts bigger dents into the targets, especially at close range.
After I finish grabbing the last magazine of ammo I need, I have to push through a dozen other soldiers who need to grab their gear. I walk back out into the hallway, where Julian and Christian are already waiting for me, and secure my final magazine in my vest.
“All units, prepare for a Grim boarding party, I repeat, prepare for a Grim boarding party!” the loudspeaker shouts to all of us. “Grim forces are docking from airlock 3-C on the starboard side!”
Airlock 3-C? That should be right below us, I think to myself.
“Let's go,” Julian shouts to me and Christian. We follow him to the stairwell, where we can already hear intense gunfire.
“God damn it,” Christian says, “How the hell did they catch us with our pants down this far?”
“Relax,” Julian says, as we fly down the stairs. “Let's just focus on getting out of this alive.”
I open the door to the hallway, when we open it, one of our soldiers flies past us and lands hard on his back. When he landed, the three of us could clearly hear the snapping of some kind of bone in his body. The soldier shrieks out in pain. Christian quickly rushes to the soldier, while me and Julian turn our attention to the direction of the airlock.
There has to be two or three dozen Grim already on our ship, with several more barreling their way in. Several dead Grim soldiers blanket the floor in front of the airlock, their fellow soldiers walking over their bodies as if they couldn’t give a second thought about them.
I rest my rifle on a storage crate and begin to unload my ammo onto the Grim soldiers. I attempt to save several Terran soldiers who have gotten themselves cut off from retreating to us, but there is only so much I could do. I watch as one of the Grim appears to absorb one of our dead comrades. It's as if their skin opens up to allow the human into their body, and their body immediately breaks down everything. I put a bullet into the shoulder of one, missing the headshot that I was aiming for. Reinforcements pick off the remaining Grim soldiers from behind. Roughly two dozen soldiers stand on the other side of the dead Grim boarding party. Julian is the first one to point his shotgun in the storage room.
“Get the hell out here you bald headed piece of shit,” he shouts. The Grim soldier walks out with his hands above his head. Amazingly, the wound on his shoulder has healed.
“I shot you,” I shout, “Why the hell isn’t there a gunshot wound on your shoulder?”
The Grim soldier smiles, “It is the energy I stole from one of your pals, my body converts energy much faster this way, and the more energy I have, the quicker my body heals itself.
Julian shrugs, “Alright, let's test that out real quick,” he lowers his shotgun to the Grim’s knee, I grab the barrel of his gun and point it away.
“Relax, we captured one, we can’t go executing prisoners. Just detain him and help gather up our dead and wounded. Me and Christian will help board their ship. Clearly they underestimated us.”
Julian nods in agreement. Clearly watching our fellow soldiers getting eaten like slaughtered cattle was something that bothered him, hell it clearly bothered all of us. But it was clear he needed to process the situation on his own. I glance over to find the other soldiers had already abandoned us, all but two, who detain the Grim soldier while Julian watches.
“Christian,” I say, getting his attention, “me and you will catch up to our boarding party and back them up in the event they need it.” He gives me a nod and we head for the airlock.
The sheer smell of the Grim ship is overwhelming, we can smell it before we even reach the airlock. I quickly clear the airlock, even though Terran soldiers entered less than five minutes ago, we were taught never to assume an area is cleared unless we were the ones who personally cleared it. The other side of the airlock is dark. Given the Grim’s physical appearance, both their lack of body hair and pale body, I estimate the Grim must prefer dark environments. Me and Christian flip down our night vision goggles and enter the ship.
The hallways were probably three or four times the size of ours. It is clear from out initial observations the Grim must really appreciate personal space. We hear a couple of gunshots echo from the left side of the airlock, so we begin to make our way down towards the sound. We quickly pass few rooms, so far all of them appear to be storage rooms.
After another minute or so walking down the hallway, we catch up to the Terran group, who stand posted up aside from a large steel door.
“God damn it Dexter, we almost shot your ass, don't ever sneak up on us like that again,” Sergeant Morgan Chang states. “Several Grim soldiers are barricaded inside this room, the door is too thick for us to open it. What should we do?”
Since I am technically the highest ranking officer among us, It makes sense they would look to me, even if it did catch me off guard. “Honestly, depending how thick the door is, I say we weld their asses in there. But that probably isn’t the smartest tactical solution. Just use some C4 to blow the door in and we’ll just pick them off.”
The soldiers nod in agreement and begin deploying a large amount of C4 to the door. After they are finished, they hand Sergeant Chang the detonator. “These bitches are about to find out exactly why you dont fuck with us,” She says, then she squeezes the detonator, blowing the door inwards. Five pops from Chang’s soldiers, then silence. Myself and Chang enter the room last, with Christian keeping post outside, to inspect the damage.
Six Grim soldiers dead, which is odd because I only remember hearing five shots. “I thought I only heard five shots?” I ask Sergeant Chang.
“That is my fault,” one of her soldiers says with a smile. I look at the nameplate, which reads Fraizer. “They lined themselves up, so I guess one bullet went through both of their skulls,” he says.
After confirming all six Grim soldiers are dead, we move on. We still don’t know much about the layout of the Grim’s ship, but we ignore our ignorance and continue to make our way down the hallway. After another 100 feet or so, we reach the end of the hallway, only a secured door sits at the end of it. I sit back as Chang’s forces follow the same procedure from before to blow the door open.
This time, me and Christian sit back as they clear whatever is on the other side of that door. “Uh, Lieutenant,” I hear Chang’s voice shout, concerningly, “You might want to come take a look at this.”
I leave Christian behind as I enter the doorway. On the other side however, it appears to be some kind of holding center for prisoners. Blue light emits from the shield that holds its prisoners inside. I lift my goggles up to inspect the holding area. Four out of eight cells are in use, and the prisoners are all of the same species. The prisoners appear to be almost rat-like. They seem smaller than us humans, comparable in size to the Luthal.
“Who are you?” I ask one of the creatures, but get no response.
“I already tried that,” Chang replies, “They must not have neural-transmitters like we do, so we probably won't be able to speak with them, unless you have a portable translator device.”
“No, we don’t, we’ll have to get them back to our ship, I’m sure we have something back there,” I reply. “Free them, make sure you make no threatening gestures, if they struggle, then detain them. Our safety comes first, but just remember they are prisoners to a species that eats other creatures by touching them, so they are probably scared.”
Chang’s soldiers nod in agreement and begin smashing the controls to each cell, releasing the blue shield keeping them locked away in their cells. The frightened creatures follow us out of the holding cell.
“All Terran forces fall back to the LockHaven,” We hear over our radios. That order can only mean one of two things. Either the Grim are retreating, or we are. We secured the alien prisoners with cuffs, which I hated to watch Chang and her soldiers do, and began to head back onto the LockHaven. After securing the airlock, we watched the Grim ship disconnect from ours. Out the airlock’s window we could witness our ship and the Grim’s exchanged plasma fire. After we put a good distance between us and the Grim ship, dozens of missiles rocketed towards the Grim ship. The missiles collided in an explosion, leaving only debris where the ship once stood. I look around the space near us to see we were the last ones to ward off our boarding party. I don’t know if we all succeeded, but it definitely looks like we kept most of our fleet intact.

2023.03.29 11:29 GetOutOfMySimulation I want to break his orchestra of tiny violins

My best friend got cheated on. She is the most kind and beautiful person on the entire planet. For four years she supported him. For four years he “had trouble finding a job” and sat at home, spending her money on fancy clothes and in-app purchases. She won the bread and he did the dishes every so often for brownie points. She loved him so much and gave him everything. He wore a mask and basked in it. He cheated on her with a rando in the back of a warehouse. He got a job, worked there for a week, fucked a person, then came up with a whole story about how he got fired for the millionth time over something stupid because “tHe wOrLd iS oUt tO gEt MeEEE.” He would have never owned up to it if it weren’t for the fact that the husband of the woman he fucked was dedicated to making sure my friend knew what had happened. Bless that guy. My friend and her now ex are currently cohabitating while he builds up enough funds to leave (she’s a better person than I because I would have relinquished him to the streets). And he CANNOT stop playing victim. “I have lost everything.” No dude, you forfeited it. “You’re just not the same person anymore.” Hmm, wonder why?? “You’re probably just going to move on to the next guy, aren’t you?” DUDE SHE WAS MORE THAN LOYAL FOR ALMOST HALF A DECADE. The literal last thing she’s doing right now is “the next guy.” She’s devastated. Her entire life is upturned, and he has the gall to throw himself a pity party? He chose this. And lied about it for months until lying became impossible. I doubt he would have ever come clean if it weren’t for husband guy taking initiative. In fact, I know he wouldn’t have. Other lies have come out since, and he’s only admitted to the ones that have direct evidence. As though anyone would really believe that the only times he’s ever lied we’re the times he just so happened to get caught. And even still the truth had to be pried out of him. Why are people this way? How could he? I genuinely don’t understand how anyone could do this, especially this guy. He doesn’t have charisma, or kindness, or money, or looks. But she saw something in him. He rolled a nat 20 at disadvantage and gave it all up for a hole in a warehouse. Now he has nothing, and she has a broken wing. Every part of me feels out for blood. I of course wont do anything out of line but if life were a movie I 100% would. I really just don’t understand how he could throw something like that away for something so pointless. If anyone out there can educate me on the matter I’d love to hear it. Maybe any sort of answer could bring peace.

2023.03.29 11:28 stlatos Linear A na-ma-ma-t; G. mnêma, Dor. mnâma, Thes. nmâma ‘memorial / remembrance'

Duccio Chiapello has written another paper on Linear A:
https://www.academia.edu/97515497/Minoan_graffiti_and_beyond_The_Minoan_Greek_two_base_words_as_a_key_to_interpretation_and_the_meaning_of_J_A_SA_SA_RA_ME
As always, the implications of his findings go far beyond his words. My remarks are based on the similarity of the LA symbol *319 to *24 (NE). Since ne is written with what looks like “ I ” with a small bar in the middle, removing this would create a variant that did not hinder understanding (no 2 symbols would be the same, no room for confusion). This can be checked by its use in the future, if other examples are found. Younger also considered it could be for ne ( http://www.people.ku.edu/~jyoungeLinearA/HTtexts.html ). This allows me to analyze the LA words as compounds with -ti-ne, not derivatives.

He mentions that Doric changed th > s, but there is more evidence this was more extensive, even beyond Greek.
G. thálassa, Dor. sálassa ‘sea’, *thalamxa > Mac. dalágkha-; = or ~ Salamī́s ??
G. thalámē ‘cave/den’, ophthalmós ‘*socket > eye’, salá(m)bē ‘vent-hole / light opening’
(could be < *dhol-; Go. dal(s) ‘valley’, MHG tol(e) ‘drainage ditch’, G. fem. thólos ‘vaulted room’, Slavic dolŭ ‘pit/hole/valley’ )
and py > pθ > pt / ps (also in Ph. if pserkeyoy, Marsúas : Márphsos, etc.). Even IE in which k^ > t^ > θ ( > th ) exist, making θ > s in those with k^ > s(^) possible.

Sū́mē on Mt. Dicte, formerly a Cretan sanctuary where the burnt remains of many animals have been found, shows evidence of both animal sacrifice and many bronze figures of men and women. These might represent those buried in place of the dead, and the many more men than women might show that infants were not given these. Instead, these might represent the gods given offerings, etc., and a popular male god received many more.
The possibility that Sū́mē is related to -su-ma- found in LA there (Younger mentioned this, too) seems strengthened by G. thûma, Lac. sûma ‘sacrifice/victim’. If the derivation allows *suma ‘sacrificing / place of sacrifice to the gods’, and Sū́mē : sûma :: mnā́mā : mnâma then the presence of both in LA:
wi-ja-su-ma-ti-ti-ne
&
a-ju na-ma-ma-ti-ti-ne
(at a height that allows the containers of records (found elsewhere in the sanctuary, with seals used in this still remaining as evidence within) to be placed below) makes these words both ending in -ma-ti-ti-ne in need of some explanation. Since the G. words both end in -ma(t-), a compound with ti-ne is likely. Since these could mean ‘container’ (for records of _ (the preceding word)), it is likely this corresponds to:
LA ti-ne : G. tína
This would allow: G. tī́nā \ tītís ‘bath tub’, LA *tī́nē > ti-ne ‘chest? / coffer? / receptacle? / container?’, confirming Chiapello’s theory that some kind of box of records was kept beneath each “label”. This also allows the words before -ti-ne to make sense. Since Symi had animal sacrifice and many bronze figures, it could be that (close to Chiapello’s work in many aspects):
na-ma-ma-ti-ti-ne : nmāmat-tī́nā ‘container of records / memorials (in honor of the dead)’
This does not help in analyzing the meaning of the bronze figures, since G. mnêma, Dor. mnâma, Thes. nmâma ‘memorial / remembrance / record / monument (in honor of the dead)’ can refer to ‘memorial (to gods)’ or ‘monument (in honor of the dead)’. Either might be expected to have records in a temple, whatever the meaning.

The word a-ju before this likely is from *ayo-s, related to *ay- > OIr. ái ‘a saying’, G. aînos ‘decree/tale/praise’, ainéō ‘tell of / praise/approve / promise/vow’, which might show LA a-ju ‘praising/vowed / with a funeral ritual of praise?’, without complete certainty, though the meaning is clearly related to nmâma ‘memorial / remembrance / record’ in some way, whatever the specifics.

Since Chiapello’s work shows (to my satisfaction, at least), that *dyeus > jo-u I’ve looked for other examples of Greek words with *dy- > *y- ( > í- ). This might allow *dwy- and *dw- > wy- and y- also, so it seems that :
*dahw- > Skt. dav- ‘kindle/burn’, *d-h-av- > Khw. thw-
*dahwy- > G. daíō ‘kindle’, Pashto *dway- > alwoy- \ alwey- ‘scorch/roast’
which already shows met. in thw- & alwoy- (probably more common due to hw and wy breaking up), when forming the common G. verb in *-ny- it would almost require more met. to avoid *hwyny and create:
*dahwy- >> *dahwy-ny- > *dwyah-ny- > *wiyanny- > G. iaínō ‘heat/warm / cheer’ (probably related to īā- ‘heal’ ?)
(that *dahwy- was a unit at the time this formed, whatever, its PIE origin, seems likely) which makes it clear that
wi-ja-su-ma-ti-ti-ne : *wiyā-sūmat-tī́nā ‘container (of records) of burnt sacrifices’

With -ma-ti-ti-ne found in both, the other parts referring to the same aspects (expected at the sanctuary due to archeological findings), the G. words in -mat- matching these and other aspects, the improbability of sequences like na-ma-ma-ti-ti- existing and eithe not representing nm- or -mm- and -tti-, etc., which is unlikely to be found in a language in Greece unrelated to Greek when Greek has words with these very sequences, any other analysis would not explain nearly as much with as much probability.

I’ll add that Chiapello only let me know he had finished this hours before I wrote this, and I don’t think I could have done this work with such exact matches, all parts fitting together, if this was somehow yet more chance that just happened to favor Greek words in LA. If they are unrelated, why does this continue to happen?

2023.03.29 11:26 demfrecklestho Weekly schedule (March 27 - April 2)

We’re faced with an emptier week compared with previous ones, but the wait will be rewarded with one of the biggest races of the season awaiting us on Sunday: the Ronde van Vlaanderen, aka the second monument and the biggest of the Flemish races.

Ronde van Vlaanderen

Sunday’s Tour of Flanders is the second monument of the season, and undoubtedly one of the biggest classics of the year… if not the biggest! Especially for Belgian fans, it is considered a near-religious event. It’s a Flemish cobbled classic like the ones we’ve had in the past few weeks… but it’s longer (250 kms for the men, 150 kms for the women), tougher (16 cobbled sectors for the men, 10 for the women) and it has infinitely more prestige than any other race held in this area so far; sadly, it is also the last big Flemish classic, but this might add a layer of entertainment as it will be the last chance to leave a mark for riders who have failed to perform until now.
The men’s course starts in Brugge, and it takes 100 kms to reach the Flemish Ardennes area where all the cobbled sectors are found; the women’s race starts closer to the action, with the first cobbled sectors less than 50 kms into the course. Except for this, the two courses are rather similar and share several key points: the Koppenberg, a short but notoriously difficult cobbled climb coming with about 50 kms to go, and the Oude Kwaremont x Paterberg combo: these two iconic cobbled roads are tackled one after another near the end of the race, and from the Paterberg’s summit it’s a tense 13 kms-long run to the finish line in Oudenaarde. However, unlike- say- the Poggio in MSR, it’s such a tough race that the decisive move could come just about anywhere, so it’s well worth watching from far out.
In the men’s event, Mathieu van der Poel has been the absolute protagonist in recent years- winner in 2020, a close second in 2021 and winner again in 2022. Last year’s win came after a ballsy gamble- he was in front with Tadej Pogačar but the two nearly came to a standstill before the line, as neither wanted to tow the other to the line. This allowed the chasers to catch up with them… but MvdP still won the sprint at the end. In the women’s race, SD Worx (unsurprisingly) had strength in numbers, and this allowed Lotte Kopecky to bring some joy to the home crowds.

Dwars door Vlaanderen

The penultimate Flemish classic is Wednesday’s Dwars door Vlaanderen, whose name roughly translates to through Flanders. Compared to other Flemish classics, I’d argue it is a bit less coveted as it was a late addition to the men’s World Tour, and it isn’t even WT for the women; most of its prestige comes from its “last call before de Ronde” calendar spot… which it acquired in 2018, when organizers FlandersClassics successfully lobbied to oust the Three Days of De Panne from this privileged calendar spot.
DDV is a fairly standard Flemish race- it takes place in the area to the south of Gent- the same as Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, E3 Harelbeke and the Ronde van Vlaanderen- and it features 10 cobbled sectors for the men and 9 for the women. Most of them are in the last 50 kms, after the Knokteberg, a short, punchy hill which is often a pivotal point in this race. Mathieu van der Poel is (again) the defending champion in the men’s race, whereas the always cheerful Chiara Consonni won the women’s race last year.

Route Adélie de Vitré

At long last, the French calendar will finally reach Bretagne on Friday: as you may know, the region is one of the most passionate (if not THE most passionate) about the sport in the whole country, and it is set to host plenty of events throughout the year. As with most races held here, the Route Adélie takes place on mostly flat rural roads, although it is not necessarily a sprinters’ race: last year we had a tough edition of this event, marred by bad weather, and Cofidis’ Axel Zingle emerged victorious. Fun fact: this is probably the only race named after a brand of ice cream, made by one of the event’s main sponsors.

GP Miguel Induráin

If you prefer mountains to cobblestones, this is probably not the best week in the calendar for you: Saturday’s GP Miguel Induráin might be a much-needed fix. It is a one-day race held in Navarra, northern Spain, not far from where the Tour of the Basque Country will be held the following week.
The race is named after five-times TdF winner Induráin, who hails from this same region; he was regarded as a formidable “jack of all trades” kind of rider… and the course seems to reflect this: it has several short climbs and fast descents, so it can play out in many different ways. The course has been changed regularly in the past, but the 2023 course is largely similar to the one used for the past couple of years, with many short hills along the route and the last categorized climb, the Alto de Eraul, summiting with 10 kms to go. Warren Barguil won last year.
Fun fact: among past winners of GP Miguel Induráin, we can find Induráin himself, although the race had yet to be named after him.

Volta Limburg Classic

Saturday’s Volta Limburg Classic is a one-day race taking place in Limburg province, the southernmost part of the Netherlands, with some brief spillovers in Belgium too. Unlike the rest of the country, this area is quite hilly, and this race includes plenty of short climbs: it’s Amstel Gold Race territory, although this race’s course is easier overall. Despite its potential status as a prep race for the Ardennes classics, this race usually has a fairly low-tier startlist, with most classics-type riders and teams busy across the border- there will be four WT teams at the start. There’s a women’s race held alongside the men’s- albeit on a shorter circuit: despite sometimes having a better startlist than the men’s race, it is not part of the UCI calendar.
The race shouldn’t be confused with the Ronde van Limburg, a flatter race held across the border in Belgium… although coincidentially the two events had the same winner last year, Arnaud De Lie.

Tour of Thailand (stages 1-2)

The Covid-19 pandemic took a heavy toll on the Asian calendar over the past few seasons, and things are just now getting back to normal. There’s a race that never stopped, though: The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorns Cup Tour of Thailand… I hope you’ll forgive me if I call it Tour of Thailand for the sake of brevity.
The race begins on Saturday and is set to last six stages overall, after which a women’s race will begin. Unlike previous editions of this race, the stages won’t be concentrated to one small region within the country: the riders will move around, forming a crescent-moon-shaped loop to the north of Bangkok. There’s one thing that has not changed, though: the course of the race is largely completely flat except for a punchy climb next week. After the men’s race wraps up, a women’s race will take place too!
The race is ranked 2.1, meaning that WT teams could participate in theory… although in practice, not even ProTeams will be visiting here. Last year, Polish continental team HRE took part in this race, and took the overall with Alan Banaszek, now at HPH; this year, the startlist will be mostly made up of Asian teams with strong Belgian conti team Tarteletto the only visitor from elsewhere confirmed so far.

.2 races

2023.03.29 11:22 FedeDost Configuring Netbox for Automatic User Account Creation and Group Assignment with SSO Auth0

I would like to find a way to configure Netbox (with or without plug-in) so that when a new user, who does not have a Netbox account logs in via SSO, his account is automatically created and assigned to the related groups, based on which Azure AD groups his account belongs to. If his account already exists in Netbox, then a check should be made in case the user has been assigned to a new group, e.g. if he has been assigned to the Azure AD group netbox-admins, then he should be assigned to DCIM-Admins in Netbox, and Staff and Superuser should be flagged.
At the moment, I'm using django3_saml2_nbplugin, which for some reason, is not working as it should; I configured everything following the manual. Still, suppose a user is part of the netbox-admins group. In that case, he is not added to the related Netbox group nor assigned the Superuser flag.
To make a test, I removed my Test account from the Azure AD group netbox-admins, completely removed it from NetBox users, and then re-added it to the Azure AD group netbox-admins.
After logging back into Netbox via SSO, the Test account was not in DCIM-Admins, and the 'Superuser' flag wasn't checked; the account appears to be active, but nothing else. If I manually add the account to the DCIM-Admins group and check the 'Superuser' flag, the group and flag are automatically removed after logging back in.
Could someone please let me know if there is a way to configure it properly, possibly using Auth0 instead of SAML?
This is how I configured django3_saml2_nbplugin in configuration.py (I hid some details)
```python
REMOTE_AUTH_ENABLED = True
REMOTE_AUTH_BACKEND = 'netbox.authentication.RemoteUserBackend'
2023.03.29 11:13 Sorry-Ruin-62 story time #1 in my hogwarts dr !!
hello everyone! since a lot of you have been asking me for a storytime of sorts, i figured why not make a post. i haven't shifted to my dr for like a week (like 5 days) now, so this is gonna be about my day in my dr before i shifted back. :)
i'll try making it as detailed as possible! (i kind of suck at storytelling so bear with me here.)
so, the last i was in my dr, it was nearing a full moon and rem was... not in the best condition to say the least. i usually hate shifting back before full moons because i always want to be there for him when it happens but with all the stress that had been going i wanted to take a break(?). he always gets all twitchy and sensitive to a lot of things when a full moon's approaching, and no matter how many times i've lived through that experience with him, it still breaks my heart to see him like that. :(
i'm also afraid of "the prank" (i don't know how many of you guys know what that is) happening, even though i could probably script it out. but the fear is so deep in my heart that i'm afraid i'll subconsciously end up shifting to a timeline where it does happen. (kind of like how i never scripted wolfstar to happen but it did, WHICH IS ADORABLE, they're literal soulmates.)
we had breakfast, and i had transfiguration first. but since we had already completed our transfiguration owl (WHICH WENT SO WELL, I WAS SO RELIEVED) we had a substitute class. basically how that works is, when you complete a subject's owl, that subject is essentially "dropped" until your next year. (as long as your score is on par with the professor's requirement score, of course.)
anyways, i had potions as the substitute subject. and god, do i hate potions. listen, it's nothing against professor slughorn (although he does get kind of annoying sometimes, with his endless invites to his slug club parties, which i've heard enough of about from moony to a 100% not wanna go.) he's honestly a fine teacher, and he teaches very well. it's just that i SUCK at it. i don't get why. the theory part i can do it's pretty easy to just memorize the potions and their ingredients + effects blah blah. but we usually have practical aspects that we need to pass in order to reach the o level of owl's. my next shift i have one lined up and i'm genuinely stressed about it.
practical work (for potions) works like this, you usually have the professor hand you a paper in which he states the name of the potion to be brewed. they're always short-term brewing potions since it's mandatory to complete them during the hour of the class. and once you were done with the potion, you would leave and wait for your results the next day. if you wanted an o on your owl's, your potion had to be perfect because if your potion sucked ass but you did really well in the paper, you would still only get an e. it's extra annoying because slughorn never gives us a concrete list of potions he might ask us to brew. we just have to assume! (it's a very long list of assumptions.)
anyways i got too technical sorry, i finished potions class and i had history of magic next. i don't hate history of magic but it really isn't a thrilling subject AT ALL. it gets boring very fast. the only upside is being seated next to pads. (even though he never lets me take notes, like EVER.)
i'm not gonna lie, most of the day was spent either in classes or in the library. the library is FILLED these days because of owl's. i've started just studying in my dorm because the library is just too noisy. ( doesn't matter how many shh's madam pince lets out lmao.) that is of course, unless i'm being tutored by either lily or ari.
nothing too special happened in any of the classes to be honest. we started our topic on bowtruckles and they're ADORABLE. i could make an entirely different post about them. (better than porlocks for sure.)
i spent a lot of time with rem, in the guise of "studying". (i just really wanted to check up on him, but he hates getting "babied", his words not mine.)
one of the things i hate seeing about rem is how determined he gets about not missing classes (even though he literally has a permission slip from poppy to do so whenever he pleases. if i was him i would ABUSE the hell out of it not gonna lie.) he's always up early, gets to every class early LIKE WHY. the only time he rests is the day of the full moon. he always looks like he's been through hell and back until he finally lets himself rest. sometimes i wish i could just stupefy him and strap him to the bed. (i won't lie i've tried it before, my stupefying skills aren't very good.)
quidditch practice was cancelled. AS DEPRESSING AS IT WAS, i get it. frank (who's our captain) has been so stressed that alice keeps teasing him about already growing grey hair LMAO. they have their newt's right now and i've never seen frank more stressed in my life. (not even when we almost lost to ravenclaw during that one match.) i hope we get more practice soon. i love waking up at ass o clock in the morning just to practice.
anyways, after dinner i went over some more potions coursework with lily, (she's insanely good at potions, and since rem was too tired to help me out, i asked her for help.)
me and pete dropped moony off at the hospital wing (poppy was fretting so much over him, which validated me very much.) and we got back to our dorms.
that's kind of all to be honest. i'm pushing back on shifting back because as i've said before, potions practical work is nearing and i'm DREADING it. so.
feel free to ask any questions! :) i hope this was a fun read.
2023.03.29 11:05 Flashy_Donut_2150 I know I made the right decision, so why am I miserable?
Sorry for this being long and a little rambly. TL;DR at the end, of course.
Hoping he never sees this because I'm on a burner, but last time I thought a post was safe (not on here) one of his acquaintances just happened to find it and happened to realize it was about him, so I guess I just haven't learned my lesson about the internet. Anyways.
Mid-20s F, on-off for 6ish years with late-20s M (started when I was 18 and he was 22). We loved each other very, very much. Our honeymoon phase was STRONG. Talking about marriage after 2 months strong (no, we did not get married). I adored him, I admired him, and I wanted him to be happy. He felt the same way about me.
We could never be happy with each other.
It's nothing all that complicated, though sometimes it feels that way. After spending so long going through this cycle of breaking up with him and then asking to have him back, I figured if I was gonna be sure about him, I would have been by now. No decision is still a decision, etc. He deserved someone that loved him completely and without question, and who did not fear the day that some other hypothetical person showed up. I, on the other hand, deserved freedom to find my own happiness, whatever that looked like.
(Relevant side note: a big part of the issue is simply that I'm about 90% sure I'm polyamorous which has been nothing but my own personal hell, and he is firmly not. Basic incompatibility, relationship dealbreaker, no question. Absolutely. If I say it enough, I'll be convinced. Right?)
He told me he couldn't keep hurting me. I felt the same way about him.
It's been 3ish months since the night we stopped talking. I sent him back his dog nail clippers. He sent me a package of very confusing items, including a letter, which, in a moment of anger and desperation to let him go, I burned without reading (and boy, have I regretted it every goddamn day since). That's it. I don't see hide nor hair of him anywhere anymore, and God willing, I never will (we live near each other, so it's risky to go anywhere at all, really, but all I can do is cross my fingers).
So I guess my question is...how do I move on? How do I accept the idea of him with someone else? How do I accept the idea of me with someone else? Because, while I understand 6 years is a long fucking time for someone my age, and I also understand that grief is complicated, and I also have been going on with my own life like usual and just working on myself as best I can (because what else can you do)...I don't think the right thing is supposed to hurt worse and feel more like a massive fuckup with every passing day.
I had a man that loved me. I had a man that took care of himself, and of me. I had a man that would have given me the world if it meant digging up each individual clump of dirt with broken fingers and handing it over. I had a man with so much passion and so many interests that wanted nothing more than to share them with someone special. I had someone smart, capable, put-together. I had someone unafraid of intimacy, of emotion, of being soft and "weak". On a more superficial level, I had a man that worked hard to maintain stable income, that was getting in shape, that owned the most precious fucking dog, that was saving up for a house.
It doesn't help that, despite it being the worst idea ever, I still wanted to be friends. I desperately wanted him in my life, just not romantically. It would have been so much easier if I truly felt nothing.
I used to question if something was wrong with me, for not loving him the way he loved me. I used to wonder if I was broken. I used to wonder how I could have the perfect man dropped into my lap and just...not want him. Or, hell, want him, but just...not enough???
Did I fuck up? Did I give up something I'll never see again? Am I just the biggest asshole alive?
I can't find peace. I need help. Please.
TL;DR Had a relatively peaceful but nevertheless devastating breakup and I'm drowning in self-loathing and lost as to how to move on.
Chapter 14: Yearning For Stars
Rextros the Black Scar was, incredibly, a man noted for his black scar.
It was his symbol as a survivor. And more importantly, as a winner. He may have a scar, but the man he'd last fought had two broken arms and a big enough gap in his front teeth that he now whistled in between speaking.
Over the years, he'd fought with the best of the worst, turning bars inside out and alleys upside down. As a D-rank pugilist, he regularly left a reminder that of all the mean sods to ply their trade in this land, he was the meanest of them all.
And his reward? His own cozy little forest hideout, complete with a gambling table, a drinks bar and semi-loyal goons. It was everything a good little outlaw wanted. Except that he never wanted to be an outlaw in the first place.
He wanted to be a pianist.
“... Damn … !”
Rextros the Black Scar had no wish to lead his own group of bandits. A cold tent in a damp forest? A dirty camp filled with the stench of a dozen guys who didn't bathe, even though there's a river right next to them?
These weren't the dreams of a normal lad growing up on a farm. But he knew that working the land wasn't for him. His hands were made for more than sowing seeds and milking cows.
It was for playing nocturnes beneath the moonlight, his soul reaching out to gently sweep across the keys faster than his fingers did.
However, that dream wasn't to be.
Once he was old enough that he could no longer sneak his way into fancy bars and ply his budding skills on the pianos reserved for the famous, he knew he had to buy his own. It infuriated him that pianos were the playthings of the nobility. He couldn't even walk into a piano workshop before being tossed out. It was a closed circle for the rich and the few. And that lit a fire in his belly.
So what if the fancy lords and ladies couldn't stomach the thought of a mere peasant like him dirtying their favourite pastime? It wasn't them he'd play for.
Rextros the Black Scar would play for the people.
And he'd play a piano he could move with his heart as much as his hands—a St. Liane baby grand in mahogany red, rolled straight out of the Royal St. Liane Workshop in the middle of the royal capital and onto the bustling street outside.
That was the dream.
A dream which had slid further away with each passing day. The crowns he'd earned from his fights were barely worth the silver needed to hire a sister to stitch himself back up afterwards. And all the callouses on his hands were suddenly around his knuckles and not his fingertips.
Then, like a twisted angel summoned from the lowest abyss, that's when she appeared.
“Rextros the Black Scar. What a dreadfully dull name. It's as if you picked it out from a book of villains. Couldn't you have gone for something more original? The Black Etude, perhaps?”
“Hah? You picking a fight? And what's with that get-up? You hard selling for a casino? I don't gamble, so find someone else to fleece.”
“You say that, but isn't every day a gamble with the law to you? Honestly, however are you going to acquire the funds to buy a St. Liane of all things? You couldn't have picked a more expensive thing even if you tried. Greedy much?”
“... Who are you?! How do you know …”
“Hey, hey, hey. Wanna hear about a get rich quick scheme? Super reliable! Everyone's done it! And don't worry, it has nothing to do with gambling. Unless you want to?”
“D-Don't mess with me, woman! Who are you?! Keep away! I'm no fool—”
Rextros clenched his teeth as he recalled the memory.
He was no fool … Except that he was.
“... Damn … it … all! ...”
He crashed his fist down against his small table beneath his tent.
He'd stopped doing that lately. Firstly, he'd gotten used to the idiocy of his underlings. Secondly, it spilled his crowns everywhere and picking them up from the grass was a pain. If he ever wanted to buy that immaculate St. Liane, he'd need every last crown this rotten venture in poor decision making could get him.
So … how did it all go so wrong?
First it was the type of jobs. They'd started easy. Shaking down couriers and breaking into warehouses. Then they got harder. Not because the couriers got wiser or the warehouses tougher.
It was because he'd pieced together what he'd been stealing—and why.
He'd left in the middle of his last job and never looked back. Not because he had no regrets about running. But because he'd feared he'd see the face of that girl in her casino get-up looking right back at him.
The thought sent shivers running down his spine.
But maybe that was just because of the cold.
A forest. A cold, damp forest. This wasn't much better. But it was easier. Merchants used this road. He left the farmers alone. And the trolls. But the merchants? They took extortion as a business expense. And every now and again, a wandering nobleman and his family would come to hunt, forgetting that they were more likely to be found by the death beetles before they found a deer.
Was it kidnapping? Sure. But he was doing them a favour. The ransom reward was his just earnings. And what a reward they always were.
He was close. So close.
One last gig. One last merchant. One last idiot.
He knew this camp wouldn't last. But it didn't need to. He was so close. Then he could abandon this damp lifestyle and these stinking men and play ballades beneath the acoustic roof of the Reitzlake Grand Bridge.
That girl with a huge gob, haughty expression, fine clothes and dark hair without so much as an inkling of dirt on it was his ticket to freedom. That sword alone looked like it could be traded for any piano he wanted. He was even glad the idiots hadn't taken it from her. If they had, he likely would never have seen it.
Now he wished they'd just tried mugging her and suffered the consequences for it. Their dead bodies weren't likely going to reveal where he was.
“B-Boss … what was that? Who was she? Why did we have to give everything over?”
Rextros smashed his fist against the table again. This time, a cloud of dust came up as a crack appeared.
“Shut up! Shut up, all of you! I'm thinking!”
One by one, his underlings looked at each other with differing amounts of confusion and resentment. They didn't understand. They didn't know.
That girl, that ticket to freedom, was a poisoned bait. She'd come with one purpose and one alone. And that was to remind Rextros that so long as he lived, his obligations remained. He knew it. He'd dreamed it.
And now he feared the consequences of his flight.
But what could he do? That girl's message was clear. No matter where he ran, he would never be allowed to wander freely again. Every crown he stole wasn't his to keep. He wanted an out. But how could he? He'd seen too much. Not on purpose. But that didn't matter. He wasn't as blind as the rest.
And that was a problem.
“Boss! What's going on! That was everything! It was our pay, our weapons, you gave it all away! Who was she?!”
A problem like losing the loyalty of his men.
Forget making back his losses. He'd lose his life if they all turned on him. And he knew for a fact that the knives and daggers they carried were still on them, hidden in their boots and their clothes.
As every pair of eyes turned black, Rextros clenched his fist.
There was only one thing he could do. It was … It was dangerous. But it was his only choice. Not just to make it out of here alive. But to escape with it tomorrow, too.
He had to silence that girl.
Before she could reach her mistress, she had to be dealt with.
That way, he'd have time. That casino girl had to only suspect. Otherwise, she'd be here herself. Despite his fears, he knew she wasn't truly omnipotent. More importantly, it'd mean he'd have the money to flee. Even with just the crowns, he'd have enough to survive. More than enough.
He had to deal with that girl … and yet, if she was anything near as strong as that monster ...
No.
He had no choice. Not if he wanted to survive. Even if she matched him as a fighter, he had to deal with her. Then, he'd get out. Lay low. Flee the kingdom. That St. Liane was beyond his reach. But there were others. A Zelronto, perhaps. Lacking in finishing and incomparable with the tonal brilliance of a St. Liane, but bearable nonetheless.
It was time to leave these idiots behind.
But not without using them one last time.
“Shut up! All of you!”
“But Boss—”
“That girl. She was here on behalf of the Adventurer's Guild.”
“What?!”
The looks of rebellion were quickly replaced by panic.
Rextros smiled internally to himself. It was every outlaw's worst nightmare. Those that weren't him, of course.
The Adventurer's Guild weren't like knights or soldiers, who'd make so much noise looking for them that they could pack up and leave without so much as leaving an empty bottle behind.
Adventurers were hunters. Hunters that got paid absolute jack for the work they did. And that meant they did their jobs for reasons other than crowns.
In short, the worst type of people.
“She wanted to cut me a deal. All our gains for a day to leave. Except that won't matter if she's dealt with first. Go get her. Now.”
A few of the men shifted. Most were just confused.
“B-But if she's an adventurer, why didn't we just jump her already?”
“Fool! I was watching the treeline! You guys can't stand sentry even if I peel your eyelids off! I had to make sure there was nobody else! Now you see why I'm the leader and you idiots are not!”
“B-Boss!! Then, then that means ...”
“She's alone. Probably thinks she's stronger than all of us. Some brat that just got promoted to E-rank and thinks they're hot stuff. You know what to do.”
“Yes, Boss!!”
Rextros sighed as the underlings shot off, their hidden daggers being pulled from whatever sorry part of their bodies they hid them in.
It was going to be close. That girl … the sword she had. Only an extremely capable swordswoman would dare wield such a weapon. To be anything less was to invite every rogue within spitting distance to try and steal it from her, alive or dead.
Even so, she was alone. She had to be. The way these people operated demanded it. He had fourteen men under his command. Idiots to the last, but idiots with brawn and no discipline. If they all hurled themselves at her, there was simply no way she would be able to defeat them all.
And if so few made it back that he could claim all the loot for himself, then so be it.
Rextros smiled. Perhaps this wasn't such an unfortunate meeting, after all. He'd been meaning to consider a way to leave his goons in the lurch. If someone could deal with them for him, then all the better.
He simply needed to be ready to make good on his escape.
BRRROOOOOWWMMM.
It was at the exact moment that Rextros the Black Scar thought this that his feet suddenly left the ground.
“Gwaaaahhhhhhhh!”
Letting out a scream, he flailed uselessly at the air as he was suddenly flung against the back of his tent, taking it and also a tree with him as he went hurtling down the mound he'd pitched his makeshift throne on.
An enormous, ear splitting explosion drowned out his scream. Or at least what sounded like an explosion. He couldn't be sure with the entire forest groaning in pain. Leaves, branches and trees bent wildly as though slapped by the force of a thousand hurricanes. And yet Rextros instinctively knew that it could have been worse.
The source of that explosion was further away. And it was not aimed towards him.
If it had, he wouldn't be in a position to feel breathless with shock.
Sweat ran down Rextros's face as he crawled up from the dirt. He was lucky. He'd narrowly missed impacting with the tree that now had its roots torn from the soil. Looking around, all he saw was carnage. Bits of the camp were everywhere. And the forest was groaning even louder than before, as though it now had to right itself after being struck by the hand of a god.
Or perhaps a goddess.
That girl … it couldn't be ...
His entire body shaking, Rextros thought about the idiots he'd sent after her. They'd only just left. They … They were probably okay. Even so, could it possibly be a coincidence that she'd set the entire forest on its knees the moment he'd decided on his treachery?
What … What kind of power was this?
That was not the power of some D-rank punk like him. It was beyond that. The sort of power that only named legends past the point of being human possessed.
Had that girl lived a warrior's life, in solitude, training her swordsmanship on some distant mountaintop to achieve that level of destruction?
Rextros now knew he couldn't stay. Not even if all the copper, silver and gold in the world was made available to him. It was time to flee. Right now. Away from this kingdom, filled with more monsters than anyone as insignificant as him had the right to know.
And then maybe, just maybe.
When enough time had passed—he'd be able to take over the farm, and go back to milking cows and tilling fields.
2023.03.29 11:00 OutlandishnessOk6067 508 on FL1 127/127/127/127 with 513 goal, testing 4/14... Tips to Improve Score
Hi all, was wondering if I could get some advice for how to best approach this last 2.5 weeks of studying. I took FL1 3 weeks out and am planning to take at least 2 of FLs 2,3,4 before my test date on 3/14. Other than reviewing my exams thoroughly and continuing with Anki, what are some good study tips to increase score in these last few weeks?
I have been studying since mid January, but studying hard (25 hours a week or so) since late February as a full time student and employed part time. I finished UWorld and am nearly done with the Pankow P/S deck and Milesdown for Bio, Biochem, Physics, O Chem, G chem etc.
2023.03.29 10:56 traitoroustricks am i overreacting? going through a friendship dilemma lol
sorry ang haba, pero i really need to get if off my chest nga and know other people’s opinion.
i’ve been together with my friends for almost 9 years, give or take. granted i’m only in my 20s, and so are my friends, pero matagal na rin kami magkasama in our young life. dahil sakanila, i slowly learned how to become a better version of myself. i owe a lot of my growth to their love and patience. of course, hindi rin sila perfect, but we stuck together through thick and thin.
ldr kaming magkakaibigan. they live near each other pero they still need to schedule their meetings sa super busy ng acads and hectic ng city. meanwhile, i live in another island. i need to ride a plane to cover our distance. they get to meet each other from time to time and i haven’t met two of them in almost 5-7 years. we knew each other irl bago kami nag ldr, pero we spent most of our friendship online. hindi ako nagseselos or nagagalit na they get to meet at hindi nila kaya pumunta sa city ko (i’ve been to their city once just to specifically meet them, pero di parin kami nakapagkita, even when i told them i’m coming over at least 2 months before my flight. again, i wasn’t angry, just a bit disappointed but i don’t hold it against them). it’s just safe to say at this point na online friends nalang kami sa tagal namin di nagkikita.
the thing is, i’m emotionally detached (thanks to how my parents raised me rin) and struggle with maintaining relationships, kahit platonic. it took me 2 years being with them so i can open up. not to sound emo or edgy, pero i just struggle in having meaningful connections with other people. my friends are the only ones i’m putting an effort for. i always have to consciously choose them again and again, to remind myself na i do care and love them, na it’s just my depression telling me to self-isolate. so yes, sila lang talaga ang friends ko na i hold dearly.
one of my bestfriend’s boyfriend is, like, shit tbh. he’s depressed (there’s nothing wrong with that) pero he uses that as like a shield or an excuse for his behavior. like, he told my best friend he thinks na she’s asking a bit too much (she’s not!! very low maintenance and understanding friend ko) pero he’s doing barely the bare minimum. for example, he thinks na she can ride a grab on her own at 11pm-12am and he doesn’t think na parang need naman na iwalk out sya. literally, he only has to wait with her outside his condo. he says it’s his first relationship (first rin ng friend ko) and he didn’t grow up with a dad (my dad isn’t dead pero with how he emotionally neglected me since childhood, it’s almost i don’t have a dad rin, kaso you don’t see me using that as an excuse to be shitty). before all that pa, i just knew i didn’t like him kasi he’s too clingy and love bombing kahit friends pa sila. i didn’t like him as her friend, and lalo na as her boyfriend, pero i wasn’t against their relationship. i didn’t tell her to break up. i just said na i don’t like him pero as long as she’s happy and she’s treated right (this was before the example i gave), then ok na sakin.
my other friend has her own problems. she’s insecure and unconsciously craves validation and wants romance. i, for one, know na she’s not ready for it talaga, pero she really wants to have a relationship that she sometimes cries and all we can do is comfort her. aware rin sya na hindi to healthy, pero she can’t herself. this has been happening for years throughout our friendship. she was talking to someone and we knew about it, and i more or less support her. idk much about the guy, kasi i’m not always active in our gc, pero ik enough to know who he is, just not enough to have an opinion about him.
what made us argue is that i, apparently, criticize their men too much. aaminin ko na sometimes i can’t control it, like a slip of the tongue, pero i stop myself and apologize if i do. i don’t participate in gc convos about their men kasi ik wala akong magandang masasabi, and i don’t wanna ruin that for them. they had a double date and nagsend sila ng pics sa gc. nagasaran kami, along with my other friend, with how their boyfriends posed.
i want to point out na my best friend’s boyfriend is ugly. he knows, she knows, everyone knows. i usually don’t hold a person’s physical appearance against them, pero if he has a shitty personality and ang panget nya pa?? pick a struggle. when they sent pics, inasar namin sila na parang funny sila mag pose. not their looks or clothes, pero posing lang. apparently, that was shitty of us and nahurt sila. i was surprised kasi nagaasaran naman kami sa isa’t isa, very mild lang sya in my opinion, but they didn’t like it.
i guess nahurt ako kasi i was acting the same, how i would usually act to them, pero if they think na it was a bitch of me to do, does this mean the whole time tinotolerate nila ako? i was an angry person before, i haven’t come to terms to my relationship with my parents, kaya i hated everyone and myself. thanks to them, i’ve become a bit happier and softer, resigned. i try to be extra soft to one of them kasi she’s sensitive (again, nothing wrong) pero i also don’t want to be a completely different person to make them comfortable. sometimes iniisip ko why i’m still friends with her when i always have to change for her, but she rarely does for me. i guess i do love them kahit ganun.
ever since they had a boyfriend/fling, i felt like i was walking on eggshells around them. i can’t ignore the fact na may relationships sila kasi it’s part of their life, so i try to be part of it rin, pero we keep arguing about it. they sort of, not directly, implied na maybe di ko maintindihan cause i was single.
obviously, i apologized na inasar ko boyfriends nila pero i pointed out ang hypocrite nila before ghosting them. it’s normal for me to ghost them, they know na sometimes i really do self-isolate myself and i need time, and i’m thankful na they will always wait for me. they messaged me na they’re sorry and they miss me, and that i can take my time again. pero they don’t know na i’m thinking of ending our friendship.
the moment i felt like i need to change because of these new men in their life, i knew na di ko matitiis. of course they’re still maturing when it comes to romantic relationships, pero i refuse to be disrespected during their growth phase. i’ve been on their side the same they’ve always been mine, but i’m not gonna stay and argue with them because of other people.
so am i overreacting? my sibling thinks na my emotions are justified, but we have the same parents who emotionally neglected us so maybe that fucked up our perception of relationships. i confided with another friend and she told me na valid actions ko. is it?
tl;dr: i got hurt and ghosted my friends when we argued over their boyfriends/flings and i’m planning to end our friendship.
2023.03.29 10:55 PzKpfw_Sangheili Gunboat Diplomacy: Prologue
Hi! This is the first post in what I hope to be (about) a 7 part series following the adventures of a human destroyer with a crew who was not trained for diplomacy becoming the last chance for peace between two alien species who aren’t very happy that their first contact with humanity is a purpose-built warship blundering into their space. Kida sorta. This is my first time writing anything like this, or really anything at all for public viewership, so feedback is welcome!
This is the prologue, the framing sequence is kinda vague here, this is mostly just to set up the main cast of this show and the titular gunboat, the UNS Crazy Train, so apologies if it drags a bit in a couple places, but I figured it’d be best to exposit now and focus on a more character driven story later (unless y'all really like exposition). Future chapters will probably use the memory transcription framing sequence, the next one will for sure, but I'm not great at writing in first person, so it depends after that. I’m aiming for one post a week, but IRL may have other plans for me.
Credit to u/SpacePaladin15 for his original series, The Nature of Predators, It is very good! Read it if you haven’t because, 1:why are you on the NoP subreddit without reading NoP? Silly. And 2:None of this will probably make sense unless you already know a good chunk of NoP’s plot.
I started working on this before part 98 came out, but this story is not set in the primary canon, so effectively that's about where it diverges from the normal timeline. I'll do my best to avoid contradicting lore from before 99 wherever possible!
That's enough introduction, on with the prologue!
Historical Record: July 12th, 2137
“Captain Krenshaw?”
The captain didn’t look up from his datapad, beckoning the visitor into his office. Probably just another new batch of paperwork for me to sign. While he was enthusiastic about captaining the UNS Crazy Train, the first in the UN’s new class of siege-breaker destroyers, he hadn’t anticipated the amount of documents he would have to sign and submit before. Liability waivers for every new piece of equipment on board, confirmations of deliveries of a dozen different ammo types, and signing the admittance documents for every one of the six hundred and thirty souls on board. Maybe the engineers have a new type of wrench they need approval to distribute to the workstations, he thought with a rueful smile.
The ship had been scheduled to launch five days prior, but the fueling shuttle had somehow brought fuel rods half again too long to fit in the reactor, and so the geniuses in engineering had figured out a way to cut them down to size. It was faster than waiting for replacements, but by no means a fast process, and some logistician had decided to take advantage of the ship sitting in dry dock above Mars and managed to add thirty tons of cargo to the manifest.
“The last of the ammunition has been loaded, we have one last matter to attend to before we are cleared for cast off.” The visitor said while handing him a clipboard.
The captain stood, recognizing the voice of Commander Wilson, his second in command and long time friend. If the commander was hand-delivering a hard copy, this must be an important piece of cargo. A cursory reading of the document proved him right, much to his consternation.
“We’re transporting war criminals now, Hanah? I thought four hundred incendiary bombs for the Fissan’s new “terraforming” project was a bit much, Lieutenant Kiref was already complaining about how he wouldn’t get any time to train with his marines with all this guard duty, and now he’s going to have to have to incorporate at least ten people into prisoner watch.”
Wilson shrugged. “I tried to argue with them, but apparently these criminals need to be delivered to the Venlil High Courts pronto. UN command wants any Arxur sympathetic to our cause to know that we don’t use exterminator tactics on defectors.”
Krenshaw sighed, “Great, just what I need to be worried about, racist pyromaniacs on a ship packed to the brim with napalm charges. I suppose I should go and talk to them before we set off, acceptable conduct and all that.” He rolled his eyes. “We’re ready to go other than that?”
Wilson nodded, and Krenshaw followed her out of his office, leaving her in the battle bridge to make final preparations, while the captain got in a lift down to the dock connecting them to the Martian Shipyards.
As he passed the levels, he again marveled at the warship he was now in command of. The Crazy Train was not a particularly large ship, coming in at just under half a klick long and a quarter of that in width and an eighth in height, but the armor made her literally second to none. While the lower half of her twin hulls were armored comparably to any other human warship, the top halves were covered and connected by a series of armor plates collectively thicker than the wingspan of Earth’s largest fighter, not even including spacing. In order to account for her massive weight, the four primary propulsion thrusters (one at the front and rear of each hull) could rotate to face straight down for atmospheric flight.
Her design had been the result of information gleaned during the UN Shadow Fleet’s marauding attack through Chief Hunter Shaza’s sector, notably the complete lack of any anti-capital ship weapons on the surface of any of the Arxur cattle worlds. A conversation with some of the Arxur sympathetic to humanity, and interrogation of one of the cattle farm overseers revealed the reason: apparently, about sixty years ago a cattle world had been drained of guards for another all-out attack, leaving just under one hundred Arxur in charge of roughly three thousand Mazics. One stampede later, and the Arxur had lost control of the farm and all of its anti-starship heavy plasma railguns. The facility was removed with antimatter bombs, but over a hundred bombers were lost in an operation that, had the guns not been operational, could have been handled by three or four. Rather than rework their entire military strategy to rely on smaller, more flexible forces that didn’t require reducing entire galactic sectors to skeleton crews, the Arxur just moved all the heavy guns to orbital installations.
As a result, the UN commissioned three new classes of warship under “Project Rustler,” with the objective of creating purpose-built warships for eliminating orbital defense platforms and liberating cattle farms. The designers of the Crazy Train had come up with the quintessentially human tactic of building a ship so heavily armored and with such powerful engines that she could hard burn past the platforms, dumping dozens of boarding torpedoes and enough countermeasures to cloak a small fleet in her wake, hover above the farm, drop the onboard detachment of marines to the surface, rescue as many cattle as possible, and escape virtually unharmed due to the upper armor plate being thick enough to take dozens of shots that would split a larger ship in two in stride.
Captain Krenshaw’s musings were interrupted by the bell indicating someone else was getting on the lift. The doors slid open, and the massive form of an Arxur blocked the doorway before quickly ducking inside the elevator.
“Mornin’ Captain” growled Lieutenant Kiref, crouching slightly to avoid whacking his head on the seven foot tall ceiling. “I’m heading down to the docks to take delivery of that batch of prisoners. Where are you headed?”
“Same place actually, I figured you might need some help.”
The Lieutenant waved his tail to indicate his skepticism. “Captain, I am more than capable of taking delivery of three Venlil, who are already cuffed. If they are that heavy, I can requisition some marines to help drag their bodies to their cells after they faint. Why are we hauling prisoners anyway? The version of the orders I got were blocked out.”
“Kiref, these are war criminals, exterminators deployed with the UN army on an Arxur scientific research base.”
Kiref cut in, “Well at least they should be accustomed to seeing sentient predator species then, shouldn’t that make them easier to handle?”---”Sir?” quickly correcting his mistake. Captain Krenshaw is tolerant of a lack of decorum, but I really need to get the hang of these human honorifics for the next time I have to justify my service to some admiral Kiref internally chastised himself.
“They were found by their commanding officer after having burned several defectors to death, so I think fainting is nowhere near the worst situation we could have.” Kiref’s yellow slitted eyes went wide, then narrowed with anger. “What’s more, there was another defector who was still on fire, and survived, so this will definitely go public. The UN wanted to try the exterminators at the Hague, make sure everybody else knows that’s not how humanity treats defectors and POWs, but Tarva insisted that they be tried on Venlil Prime. The UN wants to announce the trial before the story breaks, so the prisoners are taking the next ship to Venlil Prime, which is us.”
“Thanks for the heads up, and glad to know the ship’s leaving soon.” The captain nodded in agreement to the last sentiment, as the doors to the lift opened, revealing the ready deck, which was supposed to be kept clear for troops and equipment for planetary landings, but which was currently packed to the brim with shipping containers full of napalm and canned fruit. The pair made their way through the labyrinth to the airlock connecting the Crazy Train to the dock, Kiref taking note of the lack of any dropships within the hangar.
“Captain, has there been any word on when we will be taking on any landing vessels, and of what type they may be? I was hoping to run disembarkation drills with the landing party.”
“Some new Nevok design they don’t want to be sending the schematics over long range broadcast, probably a good idea given how poor the cybersecurity on those old Fed transmitters is.” The captain replied, with a chuckle at the last part. “You should have at least some time to train on the way to the rest of the fleet. I understand you had planned on using the ready deck to train for surface combat, but since that isn’t an option, I’ll set aside the living quarters and sickbay for the freed prisoners as a simulation for boarding actions.”
Kiref swung his tail in a gesture of appreciation. “I thank you for your consideration sir. I will make sure my men will be capable of securing any ship in the Dominion or Federation within less than a half an hour after boarding.”
Stepping through the airlock, the pair walked onto the dock, which was as large as a highway, and populated sparsely by crewmen loading the last few containers and a squad of marines who snapped to attention as the two officers walked passed. Sticking out like a sore thumb among all the sailors were three of the baldest looking Venlil either man had ever seen seated in benches a little way down the dock, flanked by four uncomfortable looking guards in UNMP uniforms. Upon seeing the alien’s strange haircuts, Kiref glanced quizzically at his commanding officer, who just muttered “exterminators” in response, causing Kiref to roll his eyes. The exterminators were wearing hand (or paw) cuffs clearly designed for someone much larger than them, and The lead exterminator, judging by the insignia pinned to his fire-resistant uniform, glared at Kiref with a look that betrayed not so much fear as anger and disgust.
As Captain Krenshaw began signing over custody of the prisoners, the lead exterminator let out a yell. “Hey human! You know you got a monster in your crew?” The captain put down his pen and turned to face the Venlil, a terrifying look in his eye that made the other two Venlil back down. The leader carried on, oblivious “We could take care of it for you! That thing’s a danger to anybody on board, at least get your chief of security to confine it to a cell!”
Lieutenant Kiref snapped his eyes over to the Venlil, and unsheathed his claws, causing the exterminator to take an involuntary step back. “I’m sorry prisoner,” said the Arxur, his every syllable dripping with venom “I didn’t quite hear you, would you care to repeat that?”
The captain jumped between the two aliens. “THAT’S ENOUGH!”
“Look, human, that thing-”
“I SAID ENOUGH. For future reference, his name is Lieutenant Kiref, not ‘it,’ mine is Captain Krenshaw, not ‘human,’ and as commander of my ship’s marine detachment, he is the security chief. You are under his charge for the duration of our voyage, so I suggest you treat him with the respect he is due.” The captain turned to the Lieutenant. “Take these war criminals to the brig. You know the handbook on prisoner transport inside and out, I trust you will have no problem keeping them confined?”
“None whatsoever” said Kiref, grinning at the now cowering Venlil. He motioned for two marines who were coming back from the interior of the shipyard, and the three of them escorted the cuffed Venlil into the bowels of the ship.
The captain sighed and turned back to the four military police officers, and finished filling out the clipboard before handing it back to the officer who had given it to him.
“Safe travels, captain, and good luck” The man said.
“Thanks, we’ll definitely need it.” Captain Krenshaw turned and began calling over his radio to the crew, “Alright, seal all airlocks, disconnect all umbilicals and prepare to release docking clamps, we will be underway within the hour.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ship wasn’t under way for very long.
The UNS Crazy Train exited hyperdrive about four lightyears from the edge of the Sol system, just over a day and a half after departure in a patch of seemingly uninteresting space. Captain Krenshaw ran onto the bridge, disheveled but attempting to put on a professional face, buttoning the last button on his jacket. “What’s the status?” This was a charted area of space, if there had been an asteroid or large space rock,it should have been marked on the map, and the only other plausible option was an enemy fleet, which seemed absent.
Commander Wilson turned at his entrance, vacating the command chair “We’re not sure what it is, the automated navigator detected an absurdly large object in our path, but only picked it up at the last second, and was able to break us out of FTL within just forty klicks of the object. Scanner Officer Casey is investigating now, but we haven’t seen anything since going sunlight.”
The captain took a seat and looked over at the sensor station. “Any ideas yet Caysey?” Officer Casey was by far both the youngest and least experienced member of the Crazy Train’s bridge crew, but Krenshaw was somewhat concerned with the Dossur’s ability to perform his duties under stress. He had been diagnosed with “predator disease” which manifested as an extreme lack of fear response, which meant that he was capable of exchanging small talk over lunch with Kiref for three whole minutes before fainting. Krenshaw had been assured multiple times that the diminutive officer would be just fine in performing his duties as long as the enemies stayed on the other side of a screen, and the Dossur’s natural extremely fast reflexes proved Caysey was adept at identifying and distinguishing targets, so the captain was hopeful, if a bit cautious.
Caysey looked up from his screen, his field of view severely limited by his blinders. “Captain, the only thing that could have blipped into and immediately out of sensor range that fast was another ship passing dangerously close without announcing it’s heading, headed inbound for Earth.”
“An invasion fleet perhaps? Should we turn around?”
“I don’t think so, It would have skipped in front of us for a fraction of a second. The object was detected for over a second, at the speeds we’re talking about, in order to do that the ship would have to be literally light-seconds long, and wide too given the distance this thing seems to stretch on to the sides” The scanner officer looked back to his panel and took several deep breaths before continuing. “I think sensor error is the more likely option. Possibly also some sort of energy field orbiting a local sun at superluminal speeds, but that’s not supported by any scientific theories I know of,” Caysey hastily added.
“I think we’ll avoid examination of theoretical physics for now, drop a beacon and we’ll see if anyone wants to send out a science ship later, helm, continue at sunlight speeds until we clear this field.” The captain said, relaxing a bit. We were needed at the front weeks ago, every day we aren’t there, more people die in Arxur farms.
The ship slowly trundled forwards at sunlight speeds for a few minutes, all eyes were looking at their instruments. The bow punched into the zone, the bridge crew collectively taking deep breaths.
“We should be clear in twenty seconds” Wilson called out.
The whole ship was in the space where the disturbance had been now.
“Fifteen seconds…”
No objects on scanners within the collision warning perimeter
“Ten seconds…”
The bow had reached the far side.
“Five…”
With one and a half seconds to go, Caysey yelled out “WAIT-” but it was too late. Within half a second the entirety of the UNS Crazy Train was engulfed in a bizarre energy field. The standard lighting on the bridge cut out and the emergency bulbs burst from the power surge, plunging the ship into total darkness. The ship rocked violently as the engines gimbaled in random directions. Faster than even the Dossur could react, every electrical system on the ship was flooded with power levels dozens of times higher than what they had been designed to handle. The helmsman screamed as his hands were electrified by the absurd amperage traveling through the ship’s wheel. The ship's reactors tripped, dropping the control rods within another half second, triggering warnings on every panel on the engineering decks.
Within another second the energy had passed, leaving the Crazy Train drifting lifeless in deep space. The turbines slowly winding down triggered the emergency batteries to connect to the ships power, keeping the remaining systems functional, for now. The backup computer activated, rerouting power through backup conduits wherever possible, and developing a list of what needed to be replaced.
Captain Krenshaw was the first to get to his feet. “Is anyone injured?”
“Helmsman Jones' hands are burned pretty badly, should I escort him to sickbay?” said Commander Wilson, helping the injured man to his feet.
“Please do, then help Dr. Mulvan get a triage going.” The captain replied. “Is there anything on scanners, Caysey?
“No s-sir” panted Caysey slowly getting to his fleet. “I should be able to check the beacon we dropped just before we entered the field.” The Dossur was quiet for several seconds. “Sir our comms and scanners may be more damaged than the computer says, I can’t even establish that the beacon is there. Should I launch another?”
“If we have that functionality, then do so. It seems your superluminal energy field hypothesis may have some merit after all” replied the captain, still a bit shaken.
Caysey punched a few buttons before frowning. “The next beacon is launched, and it’s meeting all expected readings. It’s like the other probe just disappeared.”
Krenshaw didn’t give it much thought, contacting engineering to see when the situation on damage control was. The damage turned out to have been mostly superficial or to redundant components, mainly to lighting systems and some CIWS targeting systems. All things that could be replaced in-flight or swapped out quickly at the next port. The only crucial component the ship was missing was the long range communications array, leading to the captain's decision to continue on towards Venlil Prime. At least they have an approach vector lined up for us, we would be cruising into extremely heavy traffic with no comms and dodgy sensors if we head back to Earth. So much for a peaceful maiden voyage, although at least it’s not the worst thing that could have happened...
Thanks for reading, it means a lot! Again, thanks to SpacePaladin15 as well! Hope to see y'all next time on Gunboat Diplomacy!
(also did anybody else know disembarkation was the proper word? I just kinda assumed it was disembarkment until google and spellcheck corrected me)
2023.03.29 10:54 ChibiKV2XD Looking for new Rp Partners Interested in Origional story's, Long-term preffered [DISCORD]
As the title suggests I'm looking to find some new rp partners, my schedule is more open now and I'm hoping to be able to find someone interested in something long-term
A bit about me; I'm F 25 based in Australia, I'm happy to rp with people from across the world as long as they're fine with the time zone differences between us. I am a native English speaker.
I work part-time and work from home so i have plenty of time available to rp. Generally i will respond throughout the day and even occasionally when i'p at work. I would consider myself highly literate and would prefer someone who is able to keep up detail/length wise, who is willing to discuss ideas as we progress in the Rp itself. (preference for 3-6 paragraphs average not including slow scenes)
I'm not against OOC chats, and I do a lot of the time like to discuss potential plot points and lore of our rp even in times where we may not be 100% up to rp, but want to just chat!
I'm looking for someone who is relatively active and detailed, happy to have a chat but can at minimum make one or two posts a day etc. though obviously I would prefer more but I am chill about it. My main thing is I want a partner who is willing to actually put into the story and isn't just along for the ride.
As a side note for my own sanity, please be over 18, note preference for characters is 25-40). Self OCS/anime ocs need not apply
I prefer a partner who is more than comfortable playing more than one character at a time if necessary, swapping characters from time to time if the story goes that way.
i am mostly interested in Military, War, wwll & Cold war Alt History prompts. I have a range of prompts ready to go based on my own original writings/characters/concepts I do also tend to dabble in Apoc, Fantasy etc but not nearly as much (Fantasy the least tbh)
If you have an idea or if we want to kind of work on something together feel free to reach out! Though I do tend to be picky I'm sure we can reach an agreement.
If you'd like to dm me please do so and introduce yourself!
2023.03.29 10:48 Zuperduper09 my Breath of the Wild theory
Link is dead, or dreaming.
lol ok lets backup. im pretty sure being in heaven or being in a dream is the laziest way to write an anything, but for breath of the wild...it makes a lot more sense than you would think.
originally what caught my attention was the fact that there are a lot of similarities between skyward sword and botw. namely, the hylian shield design is the same, the master sword is the same, (some could say that its the same as twilight princess too, but the twilight princess one is a darker shade of purple and has golden around the golden gem on the hilt so its technically different) and I thought that well maybe that means botw is somewhere near skyward sword, but then I started thinking more about it. the mirror of twilight, the yellow striped at, (yes i watched a lot of game theory) and the references to each different timeline. matpat said that its because of hyrule warriors, which connected all the universes, but the developers said that game isn't canon and I happen to be a stubborn little brat, so im not gonna explain it away with hyrule warriors like game theory did. no, my theory is that link is dead or dreaming, and somehow accessed the memories of all the different past versions of himself. but I'll get to the specifics of that later.
now, the main and obvious reason that I think this is because, well, it has references to each timeline. thats pretty much it. but looking closer, there are a few very specific details that were chosen.
throughout the game, the hylian shield and the master sword, link's two most familiar tools, have their designs from skyward sword. considering its at the end of the timeline, which is objectively the farthest away from skyward sword as possible, that seems kinda weird. like after thousands of years, they just changed to their original form? no, something must have happened. one other smaller detail relating to skyward sword is that the language on some of the signs is the same as the skyward sword era.
now, lets look at some other facts: the rito and the zora are both alive in this game, but seperatly, even tho the rito were suppose to be the descendants of the zora. how is that possible? never explained. how about calamity ganon? where did it come from? they tell the story of it, and how it appeared, but not how. they don't specify on ganondorf or who created calamity ganon, he just sort of appeared.
all of these things can be explained with a few different theories that are all vaguely similar to one another.
1: Link is dreaming. link got real tired from his last adventure and as he fell asleep, he accidentally gained access to all the memories of all his past incarnations, and their adventures. everything that any link ever has ever known was crammed into this huge dreamworld for link to explore. calamity ganon is the incarnation of the nightmare part of all of link. ganon has been seen by multiple links a lot, and when combined, only share one similarity: they are formed out of pure evil, and therefore thats how he is depicted in this dream sequence. this can also explain why the rito are there, the zora are there, and the references to skyward sword. and TOTK looks like it could be going along with this too, seeing as the next part of this dreamland revolves around him flying up into the sky, like what happened when hyrule was lifted into the sky.
one more small detail, is that Impa is there. demise in skyward sword said that he would cast a magic so that the three that represent the triforce pieces would be reincarnated again and again and again, and yet another recurring character is impa. (i know there are other recurring characters, but ill get to that in a different post) and impa, in botw, is depicted as incredibly old. now, link, throughout all his journeys, has seen impa as one thing more than anything else: fragile and old. so if link were to be dreaming and his mind was searching through memories, what would be the most likely thing for his brain to comprehend? an old, fragile impa.
2: Link died. there are two possible theories that spin off from this one theory:
link died, and is now having flashbacks of all his memories before he gets reincarnated again OR...
that link died for the last time, and succesfully reset the timeline.
now, hear me out. similar to the dream timeline, my theory is that all these different memories from other links are being jumbled into one world--but for a different reason. for some reason, the three spirits of the triforce lost their sense of creativity--and decided that as they are forced to reincarnate over and over again, (because of demise's magic thingie) that they decided to reset the timeline and recreate all the events over again, except, nothing went as planned. BOTW is the limbo, the in-between of a new hyrule being created. everything from the past timelines were brought right here and formed into one big world, which recreated hyrule in a very different way from what it had planned. so link was dropped into this world by accident while skyward sword was being recreated, and now, TOTK is the reset version of skyward sword, mostly referenced by the fact that there are now islands being lifted into the sky. of course TOTK hasn't been released yet so it may destroy my whole theory, but this is what i've got.
two other things I forgot to mention, starting with the first: the technology.
for both the death timeline and he dream timeline, the tech has gone crazy. the legend of zelda game series is about fantasy, and suddenly out of nowhere technology starts to become a huge part of the game starting with botw? now, in past games there have been other, smaller technological innovations, but nothing as big as giant robot animals that shoot lasers. for the dream timeline, Link's memories of diffewrent technological pieces all crammed together to create new technologies never before thought of, and were brought into the dreamworld not seperate, but not fused together. for the death timeline, well, its kinda the same thing: all the technology from the previous games and timelines were brought here altogether instead of seperate from one another, and the gods or whatever kept it in the world as it restarted with TOTK (aka the new Skyward sword)
the second thing I wanna mention is amiibos:
now this is a really stupid thing to bring up, but literally every amiibo item you get, including costumes and armor from previous games, and even wolf link and epona, can all be explained in both the dream theory or the death theory. and its basically the same way you explain technology and everything else. the amiibo stuff is all from other timelines and games, and therefore the memories brought it back. this works for the DLC too, because there is a lot of stuff from that (for example tingle armor, the phantom knight thingie, the purple bunny thing) all come from previous games, previous memories, ETC. ETC.
now, I know this theory is so, so far out and so, so far fetched, but I have been trying for a long time to fit the pieces together on breath of the wild, because it goes in all different directions. Thank you for reading this far, I am but a child on the internet who enjoys this game series, and I hope you enjoy my theory concepts.
2023.03.29 10:41 Koning-Admiraal Oppo Find N2 WhatsApp notification problem
So I got the Oppo Find N2 based on the experiences of others especially on the notifications part, but since I had the phone WhatsApp notifications are not delivered. Even while I have changed the app management, put it in auto launch and optimized the battery settings for it. It drives me nuts. Everything else (for now) seems to be working okay. How can I fix this?
2023.03.29 10:38 Either_BL065 The Heian Era and Sukuna's probable past life
So first, let us start from the beginning time of JAPAN’s mythology
JAPAN’s MYTHOLOGY:
Amaterasu,/Amaterasu Ōmikami also known as the Sun goddess was considered as a ruler of Takamagahara and the mythical ancestress of the Imperial House of Japan.
According to the Japanese mythology, Ameterasu had a child known as Ame-No-Oshihomimi who later was married to daughter of **Takamimusubi (**considered to be the God of agriculture according to Japanese mythology) “Yorozuhata-Akitsuhime “.
Later Ame No Oshihomimi and Yorozuhata had a child known as NINIGI (basically the grandchild of Amaterasu).
After the birth of NINIGI, Amaterasu sends Ninigi to replace Ōkuninushi (he was considered as the original ruler of terrestrial
https://preview.redd.it/e7wczxfi3nqa1.png?width=531&format=png&auto=webp&s=2fdb680ec6ca79285789042ae3da31238344f429
After this NINIGI was sent to Earth and was landed at Mount Takachiho.
At this point of time NINIGI was looking for a wife he meets the mountain god named Oyamatsumi,
Oyamatsumi presents Ninigi his two daughters Konohana and IWANAGA. However, Ninigi rejects Iwa-Naga for her looks and he was cursed for rejecting Iwa-Naga by IWANAGA**.** She cursed that
He and his descendants will shorter lives. (Remember the name IWANAGA because she’s going to play a major story after this).
After this incident Ninigi and konohana had three children one of them being called as HOORI and HOORI’s grandson was called as JIMMU who later gave rise to the IMPERIAL HOUSE OF JAPAN.
Basically to sum of up upto what I did here is a Mind map for reference which might be helpful:
(referred from wikipedia)
EMPEROR SUIJIN and SUININ
So Emperor Jimmu the man who gave rise to the Imperial House of Japan had 3 sacred treasures (a sword, a mirror and a jewel) which was passed from Amaterasu to Niningi and from ninigi to Emperor Jimmu and later it was passed to his family line
Then 10th emperor of Japan Imperial House EMPEROR SUJIN had these sacred treasures with him and at his time, a series of plague diseases were braked out. This was a big problem to him because he always worshipped Amaterasu and then it was later revealed that it was caused by god of mount of MIWA (lol).
Suijin realise that even he may die from this disease so he passed the sacred treasure to his Son SUININ who later became the eleventh emperor of japan.
Emperor Suinin then transferred these sacred treasures to his daughter Yamatohime-no-mikoto and he ordered his daughter, to set out and find a suitable permanent location from which to hold ceremonies for Amaterasu. And after 20 years she found a place in ISE and they built a SHRINE for Amaterasu here.
https://preview.redd.it/i8pahbkp3nqa1.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=3398c6739ffe537cc03fc3e260936dc1d477161f
These are the lines that made me wonder why Amaterasu wanted to live near the mountains and the sea.
If you know Amaterasu grandson,”NINIGI” rejected one of the daughter of the god of mountain, IWANAGA and iwanaga cursed him and his descendants that they will short lived.
I think not only Iwanaga cursed Ninigi and his descendants but probably the whole family line which includes Amaterasu also.
Also you may ask about what about the Sea… and for that I think Amaterasu had a younger brother known as Susanoo who was considered as the god of sea and basically was exiled from the heavens and landed to the Earth.
NOMI NO SUKUNE (probably sukuna if my theory is correct)
Under the reign of the emperor Suinin (the eleventh emperor of japan) the first form of sumo wrestling was found and it was basically by a man called Nomi No Sukune.
https://preview.redd.it/bxydyc1t3nqa1.png?width=461&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e1c54dcefdda39bf40d25c82939602be0287e0a
The fact why Im saying Nomi No sukune is sukuna because of the following reasons:
Confident with his abilities (lol)
https://preview.redd.it/bklzzy8w3nqa1.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=8c0fad2287e72ed09e67aba65ddfbf00a7ce0514
Not only bro worked as a sumo wrestler but also in burial grounds.
Also there is an interesting thing, Nomine No sukune clan (later you will see what it is) claims that they are the descendants of the second son of Amaterasu which makes them a direct relative to the Imperial House of Japan, but they are not allowed to be an emperor and they worked in burial ground.
I think this will be the primary reason why SUKUNA in jjk actually thought to become a villain and he just wanted to become the king.
https://preview.redd.it/20xyjksx3nqa1.png?width=761&format=png&auto=webp&s=02b2e5c1fb08dca066adbb7fefd381ea2c57fdbc
https://preview.redd.it/k9j46txy3nqa1.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=848437dc051ae77d5b8c44dfa379a02ea159560e
For becoming a king and everyone should have fear in him….I think when Amaterasu descended from the heavens Sukuna (in terms of JJK) might have came to that SHRINE and this shrine will be referred to sukuna’s Cursed Technique and probably.. he could have battled with Amaterasu. And in this process he might have killed the daughter of the 11th emperor because if she died there won’t be any emperor and then he can become a king as well. Also Amaterasu could have killed by Sukuna (jjk terms ) because at this point of time the curse of IWANAGI made Amaterasu to die.
Later Nomine NO sukune founded the clan called as The HAJI CLAN.
In real life aspects, the HAJI CLAN were famous for their constructions works as well as making sculptures from terracotta clay.
This aspect of the HAJI CLAN in JJK could be that they are the ones who found the cursed objects (referring to the terracotta structures in irl) and by this method Sukuna could have become a cursed object.
And now for the crazy part
Later it was revealed that the HAJI CLAN gave rise to other clans one of them being the SUGIWARA clan which gave rise to the GOJO clan and other clans(not zenin or the Kamo).. so basically gojo and yuta are also descendents of sukuna if my theory is correct lmao.
https://preview.redd.it/dj6gpy634nqa1.png?width=940&format=png&auto=webp&s=fff66d321542320eaea197a836f5f8d7c30a994d
and another things is that I said that Emperor Jimmu had the three sacred treasures (a mirror, jewel and a sword).
if we see megumi's shikigami signs... we can see these references
https://preview.redd.it/n69iewjzfoqa1.png?width=706&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=8265436ba55e64eacb913f968b6df6f37a9b5dec
maybe even megumi could be a descendent of Amaterasu lol
2023.03.29 10:34 penhorado Mudança de proprietário do meu carro barrada devido a penhora
Bom dia,
Não sei se este é o local mais indicado para expor esta situação, mas se não for digam-me e eu elimino.
Cá vai:
Eu quando comprei o meu carro (paguei-o eu), optei por pôr o carro em nome do meu pai que tem, porque tinha acabado de começar a minha vida profissional e por isso não tinha sobrado muito dinheiro para fazer um primeiro seguro em meu nome e para outros encargos, acabei por isso por poupar centenas de euros e a intenção seria mudar o carro para meu nome mal tivesse disponibilidade financeira. É importante eu referir que era imprescindível comprar o carro, pois não tenho transportes para o meu trabalho.
A tal disponibilidade financeira chegou este ano e tratei de mudar o nome do proprietário do meu carro para mim, fiz os procedimentos normais neste caso: fui a uma solicitadora da minha confiança, levei os documentos, paguei e o assunto ficou resolvido (pensava eu).
No dia seguinte, a solicitadora liga-me a informar-me que lhe tinham ligado da conservatória a barrar o processo porque o meu pai tem uma penhora (de poucos milhares de euros), dando-me uma de umas opções:
  1. Avançar com o processo de mudança proprietário, mas a penhora tem de ser paga no imediato. Se a penhora não for paga, o carro continua em meu nome, mas não recebo o documento de certificado de matrícula e por isso não posso circular com o carro.
  2. Não avançar com o processo de mudança de proprietário e tentar no próximo ano, mas perco parte do valor que paguei e nada me garante que nos próximos anos essa penhora esteja paga. Para além do mais, perco anos de bonificação do seguro e posso ter o carro penhorado se esta situação se agravar.
O que fariam na minha situação, sendo que não tenho nenhuma culpa das asneiras do meu pai?
Muito obrigado aos que me ajudarem!
